Thief v Decap Engi?

I’m not sure what to do against a decap engi. D/P or S/P, I’ve tried both.

I try to keep poison up with SB4 . But my damage just isn’t enough in between CC’s and the blocks.

Can a competant Bunker Engi be soloed by a thief?

It’s much more of an issue for mesmers (and to lesser extent engineers with supply crate/turrets). With that being said, d/d isn’t very good compared to d/p so there aren’t many d/d thieves these days and s/d does not use CnD so often as all that. Where do you find thieves that use CnD so often?

Also, the F1 they steal from ranger is far from OP..xD it is decent, but if you want something that is very strong look at what they steal from guardians or elementalists.

CnD is widely used by P/D thieves too.
The steal from ranger is a free complete heal for a thief, I fail to see how it can be useless.

This said, I think CnD-ing on AIs is fine.

It removes conditions and grants regen. It doesn’t full heal thief.

Portal range:

PvE/WvW = <5,000

Video to show how much that is exactly,

I probably should make a tutorial video showing how far that is on a mini map. It’s definitely MUCH further than the border of the mini map.

Depends on your zoom level right?

Work’s vs Mesmers and Necros too. Not sure why you’d have issue with it, in order for a thief to backstab you they’ll have to use a teleport, otherwise they are just wasting time taking damage from your bleeds and using some of their initiative up.

Why would I bother with some hybrid builds that just prolong a fight if thief class allows me to instagib people?

A lot of the claims about X unconvential build being viable do come from a 1v1 setting, where you can take your time because there aren’t extrenal factors to deal with. In a Team setting, you don’t have the luxury of taking your time.

To the Vincecontix’s point 1v1 is the scenario where these kinds of methodical build can work, whether they’re optimal or not idk. In a team setting you will want to have glass cannons, as you mention, and bunkers, because it only takes two people spiking to down someone and 99% of the time guarentee a stomp with the spike and stomp potentially occurring in 4 seconds.

Is the change to Impale a nerf/buff?

in Profession Balance

Shockwave.1230

Skill 4 of Sword for Warriors is getting changed to apply 5 stacks of torment over 4 seconds instead of 10 seconds. I’ve seen people say that this is a nerf, but is it really?

It looks to me like it’s just a change that frontloads damage, instead of making it a bell curve. All it really does is make adjustments to the strength of the skill in existing situations, it doesn’t look like a nerf to me even though the Torment can be cleansed all at once after 4 seconds.

The skill’s damage isn’t changed at all, in my mind it’s just more of a pre-spike skill than it was. Soften up the enemy with Impale, maybe get them to use their condi cleanse before they otherwise would, unload your spike or maybe drop some immobilize after they cleanse.

I’m curious about other people’s thoughts on the change.

Immobilize stacking: was it Good or Bad?

in PvP

Posted by: Shockwave.1230

Shockwave.1230

I feel like it would be better if immobilze overrode itself, but only if the new immobilize duration is longer than the remaining duration, otherwise leave the duration of the existing immobilize.

Thief sword 2 for example could actually be harmful to use because it’s a 1 second immobilize, and if there’s 2 seconds remaining, you would potentially shoot yourself in the foot by applying it.

Added:
This behavior for PvP only, as other have pointed out in PvE some monsters reduce immobilize duration, and it’d be helpful to continue allowing it to stack there.

Is PvP Too Complex to be an esport?

in PvP

Shockwave.1230

I believe the biggest issue with GW2 PvP not being eSports material is the lack of replay and observation options.

Take SC2 for instance. When it came out, I immediately bought it and laddered like crazy. It was so much fun, even when I was on the loosing and. And I was often on the loosing end

But I enjoyed the game, because of the numbers of casts in the internet, where I could follow the action with passionate commentators. In GW2 you must be life there to observe the game. There is no option to just load a playback and rewind it as much as you want.

If you want to showcase some tactics, strategies and special situations, you can not simply play back to this point in time. I mean you can, but it takes a considerable amount of editing instead of just going to the point in time in a replay while you are watching the match (like you can in SC2). And this makes it not worth it. Also, I would want a “zoom far away out”-option, so I can check what’s going on from further away. If you’d have a freely movable camera and free playback file, where you can relive the action, then there would be way more option to offer this game to an audience. If you have an audience, you have potential to make it into the eSports scene.

I always liked the Halo series for it’s match replays introduced in Halo 3 and beyond. A system like this would be incredible for streamers, the tool would do the work editing would do in a much quicker, simpler and easier to use manner. If people could save and share their most clutch moments to show off, I think people would be much more invested.

If there was a way to move the target UI or remove it’s click priority, that would solve my problem.

It’s too easy to cleanse thief blead stacks. They don’t have lots of cover conditions. Even if they did have cover conditions though, condi is DoT damage, so it doesn’t make sense to build a thief that way, since they won’t be able to survive attempting to apply constant pressure.

In PvP I’ve been using portal. I try to keep track of when it’s about to expire and shortly before it goes on recharge I’ll create a portal exit, but the completed portal isn’t usable. Is this the way it’s supposed to behave?

I’m assuming it’s always done this, but it’s frustrating to have an active portal clearly there that you want to go through but it won’t let you no matter how furiously you press F. It seems to happen sometimes when I don’t use it to its full duration as well, I’l lbe in combat and unable to escape using this unusable two way portal.

I dont think this is a bug, its just how the skill (and most skills work). Most classes dont have any utilities they can use during channels, the fact that blink and shadowsteps can be are the exception not the rule.

If you dont want to cancel your heal dont use decoy, and if you are in that just trouble use decoy first then heal. That makes a lot more sense anyway.

And stances, and steal, and shouts, and any instant cast skill.

Again I’m not saying there isn’t a work around. I’m saying I shouldn’t be able to put myself in a situation where I put my heal skill on cool down by using an instant cast defensive skill. It shouldn’t put any skill on cool down that doesn’t damage enemies.

Honestly it is not needed, sadly this is a l2p issue, and I hate using that term. If you think you won’t make your heal before it casts then cast decoy then heal, rather then heal then decoy thus canceling it. that 5s recharge is no one but your own fault for miscalculations

I’m not saying there isn’t a work around. I’m saying it’s super unhelpful that it interupts your healing skill. It’s annoying for heals and mantras that it interrupts, and it totally screws you when it comes down to the heal skill and low health.

It’s actually great that it interrupts skills that require enemy targets otherwise decoy would allow you to use it then reveal yourself. For skills that won’t inflict reveal, it shouldn’t interrupt these, which for me is mantas and healing skills.

I run D/P Trickery mostly, because I don’t like Sword playstyle. It doesn’t seem to work too well with a bunker guard or a shatter mes. What do you guys run and what other build would you run it with? I know nothing about the other classes’ builds.

Any CC focused build would set you up nicely. A lot of the damage from D/P comes from heartseeker into backstab, and HS is a gap closer so even an engi with it’s pulls and knockbacks would be fine to play with since HS compensates for any distance created by CCs.

Shockwave.1230

I like to draw comparisons between sports and esports.

I agree that GW2 can be pretty messy and fast paced. By the same token so can a sport like American Football. It’s hard to keep up with everything that goes on for both fields. That said, football is extremely popular in America.

Is the difference something as simple as there being a focal point for the sport in question, and a lack of a focal point in the “esport” in question? Most sports have a ball to focus on. Even an esport like starcraft, tends to have 1 or 2 points of focus at a given time, and within a focal point it seems somewhat easy to consume what’s going on.

Guild Wars 2, as has been mentioned suffers from a skill effect overload in both simultaneous quantity and magnitude. This combined with the extremely fast pace, is probably not helpful for consumption.

That said, GvG in Guild Wars 1 was fast paced too, it also had a huge quantity of skill effects triggering simultaneously. A difference I notice though is that GvG was larger scale, had way bigger maps (so event with a fast combat pace, map movement moved at a more comfortable pace), and the magnitude of skill effects was lower.

Would a game mode that has bigger maps, and a more game changing focal point make for easier consumption from viewers and still be competitive and fun?

Rank Farming

Shockwave.1230

ANet has stated Ranks are a display of time played, not player skill. PvPer’s inherently know this anyways. Rank doesn’t tell you where someone is on a leaderboard.

Regardless of what is said the new rank system rewards players for each rank obtained and matches still reward silver for standing still on a point whilst eating your lunch.

And camping at a champ spawn location that a champ chain runs through is about as profitable as that. What are you driving at?

A brick wall apparently.

If you can’t see how this will become a huge issue when the new dungeon track system is released then I’ve run out of patience.

P.S. enjoy your farming.

I really can’t see it. Other players putting gems in a sink in order to farm pvp efficiently has such a small impact on me that I am pretty sure I won’t even notice it.

Doing some math, given it’ll take about about 1.5 hotjoin/custom arena games to get a subtier of a tier of reward from what I recall the devs saying, iirc it was 5 subtiers per tier and a total of 8 tiers. That’s 40 times 1.5, which is almost 60 games. It’ll take 7 minutes per game to max rewards, so 420 minutes. That’s about 7 hours of hotjoin games to max a reward track.

Sunrise & Twilight skins free unlocks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shockwave.1230

Shockwave.1230

Guys please just stop talking about markets and prices. It is irrelevent. The post was intended to show that people are able to unlock the Twilight and Sunrise skins in a way that is most likely not intended. I’m pretty sure Arenanet didn’t intend for more than one person to unlock Sunrise and Twilight skins for one Eternity made. That’s what this post is about.

The part about the market and stuff has been discussed to no end and in the end we can only speculate on prices. Arenanet once made a post about how they increased the drop rate of precursers from the forge as an attempt to decrease their prices only to find out their price doubled after the change. Markets behavior are indeed complex which is why I think we should drop that part of the discussion.

The only question at hand is whether Arenanet intended people to unlock Sunrise and Twilight in this manner and how they could adress this issue.

For the last time please STOP talking about economics because this is a subject you can keep speculating about to no end. I’m not saying any of you are wrong about the market changes, I just don’t think they are relevent in this discussion anymore.

Their intent and what they actually do are two different things. They may not have intended for people to be able to unlock Twilight and Sunrise then sell Eternity, they also may not have not intended it. It could be an oversight.

Regardless, until they actually roll out the feature patch and we know the actual behavior, it makes sense to try and influence ANet one way or the other. The feeling I have is that given the silence on the topic, the initial behavior in the feature build was that it was possible to sell an eternity made from from bound legendaries. That’s probably a majority of the forums feeling on the matter.

Because I don’t want them to deviate from what is believed to be the current behavior I am going to draw whatever comparison/facts I can, since it will be an overall benefit to skin accessibility for the playerbase as a whole that this be possible.

Sunrise & Twilight skins free unlocks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shockwave.1230

There’s a lack of understanding in this thread. This isn’t a big issue. If supply goes up prices come down. The supply of eternity, which is already insanely low, will go up, the price will come down and reach an equilibrium with twilight and dawn.

The 3 won’t be the same price, eternity will always be more than both, because eternity unlocks 5 skins, Dawn, Dusk, Sunrise, Twilight, and Eternity. Twilight only unlocks itself and Dusk. Sunrise only unlocks itself and Dusk.

Since Eternity is THE high roller status item in GW2 due to it being the only item that requires 2 legendaries, there will always be a consistent demand for it, as the number of players that want to show it off aren’t changing. The supply is changing.

The demand is also going to go up, because Eternity unlocks 3 legendary skins instead of 1 as previously mentioned.

What this means is that supply and demand are increasing. The reason demand is increasing, again, is the additional unlocks eternity provides. The reason supply would increase is because a portion of the player base understands that by unlocking twilight and sunrise then selling eternity you can get about 3.5 legendary skins with the current rates.

Eternity will reign as the most valuable legendary due to it being a status symbol of the game and the fact that it’s a Greatsword, one of the most popular and most demanded weapons, I feel like I have to repeat this. It won’t fall below other legendaries ever unless someone has an insane amount of gold deliberately manipulate the market to do otherwise (John Smith might be the most feasible person to make this happen and it wouldn’t necessarily be due to him actually having enough gold).

Tl;dr
This “issue” has extremely little, if anything to do with market impact. Because the only market impact will be a decreased rate of inflation on legendaries. What this ultimately comes down to is some people think it’s unfair that for the effort of 2 legendaries people can get 2 skins + eternity ‘s market value ( a bit more than 1.5 legendary skins, ala 3.5 skins total) for the effort of getting 3 skins (eternity, twilight, and Sunrise). That’s ultimately what it is, jealousy of some people having the option to say “I don’t want eternity, because I’m less concerned about it as a status item. I’d rather have another legendary skin and progress towards a 4 instead”

The problem isn’t a market issue, nor a problem with jealousy. It a loophole with the system doing something which the wardrobe clearly wasn’t intended to do.

This isn’t even anything to do with Eternity itself.

Ultimately it comes down to whether or not ANet is okay with this being reality

lol wat. lot of assumptions in that post ^

People might be able to make two legendaries (twilight and sunrise) and then get back a huge chunk of money.

If I make two legendaries, say quip and frostfang, I get nothing back .

There is little to no effort in obtaining eternity if all one wants are twilight and sunrise weapon skins as the mystic forge recipe for eternity, aside from twilight and sunrise, is really easy to obtain: it’s just 5 piles of crystalline dust and 10 philosopher stones

So really, this is unethical. And your assumptions are massive, Shockwave, and decrease the validity of all your arguments in a big way.

There’s no ethics when it comes to this. The market will eventually reach an equilibrium, where Eternity will still be worth more than any legendary because of the social psychological implications of it being the item of Guild Wars 2 status.

To say that there are ethics involved in this is like a lesser way of saying it’s unethical for not all professions to have Stealth (which provides you a significant advantage in every game mode of Guild Wars 2). Then to complain that you don’t have the option to be a very good roamer in WvW, or complaining you can’t do map completion as efficiently as someone else in PvE, or complaining you can’t surprise spike someone as effectively in PvP. A profession without stealth has it’s own strengths and weaknesses even if stealth still provides value more frequently than the strengths of the non-stealth profession.

Twilight and Sunrise are the same skin with a different color scheme, people will argue that it’s 2 legendaries you have unlocked, but the reality is that you have the same skin with different colors. There’s also no viable builds where you can swap between greatswords, because regardless of equipped weapon a skills cooldown is universal. So it’s not like you can viably play with both of them in the same build. If you get two of any other legendary, you get to have the option of having them both on the same build and its actually different skins. The only acceptable counter to this argument is that other legendaries don’t have a second optional color scheme (not an ethics issue).

Some people are arguing you’ll get a chunk of your money back at the current market value. Current market value is the key part. The disparity between the current market value of eternity and the other legendaries will reduce as the new equilibrium is reached, but as I’ve previously mentioned because of the nature of how eternity is crafted (requiring 2 legendaries), it being a greatsword (a popularly viewed item) it will always hold a higher value. The only acceptable argument here is that it will still be more profitable to sell eternity no matter how slight the margin becomes, be the near half a ledendary it is currently or 10% of a legendary (again not an ethics issue). Chalk it up to the more frequent value stealth provides over the strengths from other professions.

I’d rather have another legendary skin and progress towards a 4 instead”

If a binding were to be carried over it be better for the player if it were only be carried over if both legendaries were bound. If either or both were unbound the player could still sell eternity.

However, there’s only a handful of players that would be able to do this. It just happens to be related to eternity the most expensive item in the game, so people are trying to make a bug deal about it.

In actuality in the long run this will be be better for the player base’s interest in these 3 legendaries. Perception is that loads of the player base has legendaries, because people show them off on champ trains, dungeons, LA, Vigil keep, and everywhere that you see a lot of players. In actuality a small percentage of the player base as a whole has them, it just looks like everyone does, because the people that do farm champs/dungeons a lot or are TP guys that stand around in LA/Keep a lot anyways.

The impact in the long run will be that twilight and sunrise will be in the upper middle of legendary value, instead of towards the top. This is all because of the perceived cool factor of Swords and Greatsword that they have such high value among their peers, not to mention that their appearance and effects add to the cool factor helping with the value.

It’s a lot about nothing given the overall psychology of the player base regarding legendaries. At best we may see a small amount of people playing more often since they can essentially get 3.5 legendaries for the effort of 2 currently. At worst we have people complaining slightly more than they already do that legendaries aren’t legendary.

U will get twilight, sunrise, and eternity skin. But if u still have the eternity u will still have the stats for it. Can’t wait till the 15th n gonna sale my eternity and still have twilight and sunrise as skin, will get ascended greatsword and transmute them.

This is actually a great idea. You’ll be able to get 2 legendaries for the price of half a legendary because you can just sell eternity. If eternity’s price keeps going up, then you might even be able to break even or make a profit off unlocking 2 legendary skins!!! lol

Is PvP Too Complex to be an esport?

Is Guild Wars 2 PvP too complicated to be consumable by the the mass esport audience?

There’s the whole build aspect of the game, which requires a lot of analysis and reanalyzing as you go in order to put together an effective build.

  • Guild Wars 2 has a lot of systems players need to understand in order to create an effective attribute setup.
  • While you’re crafting your attribute setup you must also consider what weapons play to those strengths.
  • Additionally you need to consider what 5 slot skills play to the strengths of your attribute setup.
  • You also need to figure out what traits make the most sense in your build. You must also consider the impact trait lines have on attributes.
  • Finally you have to figure out what runes and sigils make the most sense to run.

The combat itself involves variable/dynamic effects. Conditions, Crowd Control, Specific skill effects, Trait/rune/sigil effects. The magnitude and duration of these effects is also variable.

Again the question I’m posing is…

Is Guild Wars 2 PvP too complicated to be consumable by the the mass esport audience?

Poison from SB4. Not sure what your sigil on SB is, but if it’s fire, your auto-attack plus poison would chip away at him. Don’t have to use initiative while auto attacking so, you could have built some up even when using SB5 to chase as long as you used your other 3 ports too to allow you to build initiative. You had some opportunities where it would have made sense to swap to shortbow. When he’s not running away from you, the cripple from SB3 would put him in a bad spot.

Shockwave.1230

Stealth is a silly mechanic the way it is currently. Every other game have a way to counter stealth, or something that makes stealth risky. There’s zero risk from entering stealth. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Power Ranger Bow Spam is a silly mechanic the way it is currently. Every other game has a way to counter bow spam, or something that makes bow spam risky. There’s zero risk to bow spam. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter. (Optional: Replace Power Ranger with Spirit Ranger)

Necro condition spam is a silly mechanic the way it is currently. Every other game has a way to counter condition spam, orsomething that makes condition spam risky. There’s zero risk to condition spam. There’s a lot of to gain from it. There’s no counter. (Optional: Replace condition spam with Minion Mancer)

Mesmer PU and Phantasm spam is a silly mechanic the way it is currently. Every other game has a way to counter low frequency stealth, defense buffs, and AI dps, or something that makes these things risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Warrior survivability/dps/mobility are silly mechanics the way they are currently. Every other game has a way to counter a high survivability/dps/mobility mix, or something that makes these things risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Thief evades are silly mechanics the way they are currently. Every other game has a way to counter evades , or something that makes them risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Guardian active defenses are silly mechanics the way they are currently. Every other game has a way to counter a combination of blocks/invincibility/blinds/area denial, or something that makes them risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Engineer active defenses, healing, and CC’s are silly mechanics the way they are currently. Every other game has a way to counter this combination, or something that makes them risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

Elementalists 14k+ spikes while CC’ed are silly mechanics the way they are currently. Every other game has a way to counter using 10 skills within a 1 second window, or something that makes them risky. There’s zero risk to using these. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

tl;dr
Every profession has their own version of OP builds. Stealth suggestions have been discussed before, including these suggestions. There’s plenty of reasons to make a change and plenty of reasons not to.

[Prediction] Related to Marjory

in Lore

Shockwave.1230

Literally related actually,

I’m guessing Marjory’s sister is going to die in the upcoming conflict with Mordramoth, who Scarlet wanted to awaken, because she figured out how Snaff was able to telepathically control Kralkatorrik when she was caught in the archives at Rata Sum, and wanted to use this to take control of “the System” Sylvari are bound to, so that thye might have choice beyond the Dream or Nightmare.

This will send Marjory into a desperate rage, which will cause Kasmeer to again master her resolve (with a Mantra perhaps?), and go BAMF mode again, because she will still struggle, but be growing in her confidence up to this point. Kasmeer will combine Snaff’s elder dragon mind control findings with her Mesmer abilities in order to temporarily control Mordramoth, while the rest of Destiny’s Edge 2.0 follow through with what Destiny’s Edge 1.0 couldn’t do and down an Elder Dragon with Mind Control involved.

Kasmeer’s resolve will again return to normal levels (because she use up her Mantra of Resolve charges, and it has a very long cooldown for her specifically). It’ll be back to normal, because Marjory will feel she has avenged her sister. Destiny’s Edge 2.0 will celebrate, and have a quick gloat over Destiny’s Edge 1.0, at which point Zojja will bring up Snaff and put everyone in their place.

All the while a segwey will have been introduced to start leading the story to the next Elder dragon, which will be Jormag, because Braham isn’t down with that dude.

Am I serious? Yo, Nes.

Added: Oh and Kasmeer will be another one of the few Mesmer’s that can directly manipulate the minds of others hereon after, but not with the same display of power she displays over Mordramoth, because Marjory has to be in trouble for her to have that much focus, but one day a few decades from now she’ll always be at that level.

Added More: Kasmeer’s new tier of abilities as a Mesmer will get her an introduction into a Mesmer secret society, of extremely power Mesmers. Where a rogue memeber will outwit the group, and Kasmeer will introduce her group to this secret society, because they need help help bringing this rogue member down, but everything must be done very hush hush, and spy like, because this mesmer has agents in high places among the various political systems of Tyria.

The story doesn’t change much from profession to profession. In general the most efficient way to take down enemies is Full Berserker gear. If that’s a bit too challenging, try knight’s chest and leggings. If that’s still a little to much, try soldier’s chest and leggings.

I’d recommend sticking to mostly Berserker pieces, because it’ll save you time vs large health pools that can feel like they draw out fights unnecessarily.

I would go ahead and use them now. To my knowledge, the rewards won’t change after the patch from the current chests, so it wouldn’t make much of a difference. Only the new rank-up chests and reward track chests qualify for the new rewards.

I’m curious, why would people wait to open them?

PvP skins are going away. The question becomes what will be in the PvP Achievement chests after the patch.

Steps to reduce Zerk Meta will increase it.

in Profession Balance

Shockwave.1230

The zerkers meta will never go away.

The way that the game is designed is so that damage is the most important aspect. If you are ever not connecting with your auto attacks, rotations, condi bombs, w/e you are losing.

It’s not even that there is a zerkers meta that’s an illusion cast by the Mesmers at ANet. The reality is that it’s a dps meta regardless of it being condi or direct, because of the game’s design

Support and control exist to supplement sustained dps. This is not a damage, tank, healing trinity game. GW2 essentially is a game for everyone that wanted to play the role of damage in tradition MMOs. They sprinkle in just enough support and control to hold onto people who had damage alts too.

Tl;dr
It’s not a zerker meta. It’s a damage meta due to the games design. Whatever gear allows for the most damage is what the meta will utilize.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shockwave.1230

Shockwave.1230

Also earlier John Peter seems to suggest that “protips: ferocity as a major stat”, I completely disagree. Here’s the “rough” math to back up the argument that ferocity is NEVER better than power as of the current meta.

Expected Damage = Power * (1- crit chance%) + Power * crit chance * (1.5+ Ferocity / 1500)

For the sake of simplicity in ferocity FAVOR, we shall assume crit chance to be 100 % = 1, thus

Expected Damage = Power * (1.5 + Ferocity / 1500)

(Yes there are weapon coefficient and target armor but they will be constant as per case the expect damage value with scale with these, so they can be ignored in maximizing the damage)

Now power is divided into different components with 916 damage as base, we’ll let P be the amount of extra power added and F be extra ferocity (from both equipment and traits) so that

Expected Damage = (916 + P)(1.5 + F / 1500)

To maximize Expected Damage with the constraint P + F = A where A is a constant, we get

the maximum damage is achieved at the point P = (1334 + A) / 2
(differentiate, set equal to zero and solve it’s a basic calculus problem)

where A is the resource pool to share between P and F

Now, between trait, there are potentially 600 points. Equipment: 1157 stat points from major and infusions, 745+745 from minor totally 600+1157+745+745 = 3247
which implies the damage maximize at the point P = (1334+3247)/2 = 2290.5

Now if you major everything in Power you get 300 (from trait) + 1157 = 1457. That’s the total extra amount you can put in a major stat. (on the top of the 916).

Since the damage function is upside down parabola when you substitute F = A-P for P, the this point is the maximum possible point, which proves that power as a primary stat will ALWAYS be better than ferocity.

And this is the case where we ASSUMED crit chance is 100%, which when not the case, the situation is even worse for ferocity.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Stat-Combos/page/7#post3859608

I found slightly different findings. Most of the time ferocity primary wouldn’t be useful, but if you had enough power and precision, like through might stacking, it would actually be worth it if you could upkeep enough might stacks.

Can you check how much of an effect 1 point of power/ferocity would have added to these numbers…

Weapon Strength = 1000
Total Power = 2258
Total Precision = 2922 (100% crit chance)

Weapon Strength = 1000
Total Power = 2863
Total Precision = 1872 (50% crit chance)
