I’m still debating between taking Wilting Strike and Two-Handed Training in the Beastmastery line. The reason why I don’t take Two-Handed Training is I feel I don’t stay on greatsword for long enough to be an impactful trait, while I can use Wilting Strike whenever I want with the pet F2 for weakness. Weakness is really strong versus Zerker classes and the trait really helps against mesmers and thiefs, even if I am not using Hawk as my DPS pet for low F2 cd.

When I saw the existence of this trait, I immediately fell in love with it. It revives allies so fast, it can determine if you win a fight or not.

Yes, and considering its a premade team comp he took the res trait, which is amazing because you can res someone within 2 secodns with the pet help and ZSpeed.

This build is a utility box. You can survive both conditions and power spikes due to WS training, bark skin, protective ward. You have good mobility with GS and traveler runes. Your dps is solid with the marauder amulet and Longbow and you got a low CD knockback.

And your res capabilities are pretty amazing especially for 2v2s. I dislike BWarden, I find Zephyr swap better due to added utility for stealth stomps and especially on ToSStorm. Quickness channels are awesome.

The reason I love Beastly Warden so much is partly because i can call a target and burst with a well timed taunt, but there is more to it. If let’s say you are out of breakstuns, taunt can be a life saver especially with the wolf taunt + fear combo. It’s also amazing versus thiefs using shadow refuge and mesmers trying to spike you down from stealth. Also is really good versus players using blocks like engi’s Gear Shield and guardians.

You need to swap your pet for the quickness. Taunt is from the F2, which is something I like since I play with a DPS pet (Owl, Hawk) and a utility pet (Wolf). That’s personal preference, but I don’t like being forced to swap pets for quickness.

I love Zephyr’s Speed aswell, but in the end of the day the number of plays I can get out of Beastly Warden is just so good.

I take it as a challenge, everyone seems to think that ranger is the worst class for PVP and PVE. I’m going to try to prove those wrong ! There’s a lot of good build out there, and we can also try to think by ourselves and try something else than what is given to us.
If a build doesn’t suits you, why not trying another one ?
As I read on the forum, people tries to run a zerk build, or the same build on EVERY class they play, and complains it doesn’t work… A necro can DPS, it’ll not DPS the same way an ele do. Same for a Ranger.
It will take time, as I have to go all over the basics of the class, but I’ll get there eventually.

3 years of playing non stop ranger here.
And I can tell you…and thurst me that it is totally broken and unbalanced ( in the negative way). A decent engi or thief or whoever you want will kill the ranger Always. No matter his skills. Simply becouse we have no decent F skills. Simply becouse we have no decent survival skills.

This is definitely not true. I rarelly lose any 1v1s against thieves and engies on the power ranger build I’ve been testing. Skill plays a huge role here, I think you should watch rangers who are experienced in PvP and see how they deal with those classes before jumping to the conclusion.

I know there aren’t many ranger streamers, but I stream anytime I can and I saw Eurantien beginning streaming aswell.

I just love how well informed you are. The other classes you are mentioning are in a much better place than ranger is at the moment, it can’t be compared.

Having good selfish condi removal is not going to make you good.

For me, mesmers are always a 50/50 when it comes to 1v1s, and I’m really used at fighting them on lb/gs. If they get their stealth up and you have nothing, then I would certainly recommend to run. Skirmishing line’s Quick Draw with Swoop is amazing at that.

I did this, it still feels lack luster imo. Mainly because the auto attack on longbow just doesn’t hit as hard anymore. So moment of clarity -> lb autos are just weak.

I can imagine that being the case, Beastmastery is still solid.

If you’re buffing Rangers, give them something that takes skill to land such as Skull Crack right now. A class should NEVER been looked down upon as a skill-less in all the times it’s been brought up.

I heard Ranger in GW1 had spike that took REAL skill to land, so why can’t they bring that into the game as well? Like I don’t know make it so Ranger can actually cast the pet skills by themselves such as the knockdown from the dog (Lone druid style from dota) but cut their evades and give them telegraphed damage?

Well both trap and spirit ranger you mentioned are both destroyed in this patch more than ever, hope you are happy mister! Also keep in mind ranger is one of the most telegraphed classes in the game. They don’t have instant skills like eles, thiefs, mesmers and necros do. (taunt isn’t an instant skill, it’s a trait)

They pretty much nerfed these utilities to the point where no one would ever want to use them ever. It basically makes a waste of space in our utility list, and that is a really sad thing to see.

I actually would love it if they increased the skill floor and skill cap, I know I’m good enough no matter what anet would throw at me. But at least don’t create poop out of the utilities that once were working well. Make them useful at something at least, because they just aren’t.

Pretty much agree with everything Trig said. Spirits should be let to move again, because anyone with half a dead brain will kill the thing in a matter of seconds. Letting so many utility skills being useless to this class is pretty sad.

nice. Remorseless + RaO is godly. PW and barkskin were that missing piece we needed so badly defensively.

I really like having Beastly Warden for the utility and defense, and traited shouts so I can spam HaO and RaO as often as possible. possibly i’ll eventually switch over to NM line.

surprisingly I reaaally overestimated Quickdraw. I don’t find it too useful at all, at least not yet. I thought it was gonna be the new hotness but not so.

6/0/6/0/6 is extremelly good for 1v1s while this build can fill pretty much everything from really good at 1v1s to quickly save your friend’s butt with Allies Aid. Team support has always been strong and I think this build would be the way to go overall due to how well it can survive.

I have tried 6/6/6/0/0, but have found that it’s survivability was one big issue. Some of my friends told me about putting Nature Magic instead of Skirmishing, and I said why not. The survivability it gives is just incredible. I can literally fight anything on point thanks to the Wilderness Knowledge condition removals and Protective Ward. People who haven’t used Remorsless yet should really try it instead of Lead the Wind as it’s just superior in terms of damage especially if you have Strength of the Pack(the new RaO) elite.

Allies Aid in Nature magic is basically a huge life saver, you’ll be impressed by how fast you and your pet can revive your friends. Windborne Notes just is a really good trait that synergises so well with Clarion Bond and Oakheart Salve, plus you give the regen to your allies aswell! The will surelly love it abit at least!

Thieves are no longer an issue at all with this build when played correctly, which was always what the old power ranger build struggled with. Protective Ward combined with Bark Skin really is that strong versus them.

This build can probably have a few tweaks, but overall I very much felled in love with it. Those who want to watch me play the build, I will be streaming pretty regularly on twitch almost every night, so feel free to stop by!

The display of ranger on twitch was really poorly done because the guy doesn’t know how to play the class at all. He skipped so many details I was scratching my head the whole time.

This guy seems to be clueless about the damage pets can do, even more since the pets got their stats boosted baseline. Good longbow rangers will never run a bear and not make it attack it’s target.

A good rotation of the longbow is to stealth yourself with Hunter’s Shot, land the Barrage on point, then rapid fire their kitten into oblivion. This combo deals way more damage over time than simply standing there doing autos especially when you try fighting on a point.

On a side note, I totally laughed my kitten off when I saw him choosing Empathic Bond over Wilderness Knowledge for condi removal.

For those who don’t know who I am, I used to play pretty casually by the name of Hiro.
I always wanted to be a competitive PvP player and be a streamer, but unfortunately I never had the funds to get a proper PC.

Well, I Finally got a new PC to stream with, and dang the game feels like a new one! lol

My goal was always to improve my mechanical skills the most I could and fully exploit what the ranger is capable of. I mainly play power ranger, but I am pretty decent on most other builds aswell.

You are right about Ranger being a class with a low skill floor, meaning players new to it can have some success in unranked queues where you fight against people who are inexperienced.

However, the skill cap of the class against competent players is way higher. You need to micro-manage your pet extremely well (lots of cancel-casting) to be able to use the full potential of the class while landing your own weapon skills. It’s something that can be hard to do especially during team fights.

It doesn’t matter who i’m fighting against. I’m on a class with zero hours played vs people who at least have sunk enough time to lvl and fully equip the character they are playing.

Most of the time they are their mains.

I have NO business having this much success having invested literally no time learning the profession. I should be nothing but a liability in a match on a ranger.

But I’m not….

You will be a liability versus good players, don’t worry.

I beat both Shoutbows and Cele eles on 6/4/4 power ranger. I’m just really used to dueling them over and over and of course you can’t beat good ones with a condi ranger. But zerker ranger can as long as you time your skills well and dodge what has to be dodged.

It may be hard for some to believe, but I will be streaming soon to prove it.

Works wonders so far. TotSS is the perfect map for Ranger, so many hard to reach places to shoot from, which also happen to be nice to PBS people off.

I think all ranged power builds are a bit dumb atm.

You can even improvise by doing some sets of squats right at home while laughing at your enemy!

Power Rangers are practically meta right now. There isn’t a match without a pewpew Ranger standing on a cliff somewhere pressing 1. It’s an easy, annoying and effective build to climb ranks with, or whatever GW2 has.

Hambow was stupid with its ridiculous stunlocks but pewpew Ranger takes it to an all new level. The build is broken and toxic, it shouldn’t be a thing and you know it, which is why you don’t have any argument apart from whataboutism.

But obviously players abusing this crap will defend it to the bitter end. I mean it is fun to shoot stuff from 4 maps away. I guess it’s the same group that spammed Sway in HA back in GW days.

I like the idea of people like you stopping playing lb/gs ranger in PvP. The less we are the better, because the majority can’t play it properly and give bad reputation.

I personally don’t like the idea of taking an axe with the staff as it will make you a very slow player to move around the map.

I think on berserker builds I will most likely use Greatsword for secondary weapon while Sword will work better for tanky variants with the warhorn buffs. Hopefully they will improve Hunter’s Call, because it’s just not good enough at the moment.

correct. they cant be compared because the reaper is actually useful. GS is just a defensive, skirmishing weapon with a bit of situational burst. it will likely remain in this role for LB, BM and maybe druid rangers.

Could someone confirm that rangers are keeping the 1500 range? Since nowhere on new traits u can see the extra 300 range added in traits, nor was it said it would be baseline?

They did confirm Longbow 1500 range will be baseline when they were showing off the warrior traits and people kept asking in twitch chat.

From what I saw you will have to stay in place to execute True Shot while Rapid Fire does let you move AND tracks through stealth. It is also a very easily dodged attack , which I don’t see people having issues killing. Their Barrage-like-skill will be on a 60s cd while we’ll be able to reduce it by 66% if we want with Quick Draw, resulting an 8 seconds Barrage.

I can see Dragonhunters suffering quite a bit on mobility side with the lack of swiftness. You absolutely need mobility in a game like Conquest and there is not so much for guardians sadly. They will be great for PvE however.

I know it sucks they have skills that would work so well with our class, but hey if they didn’t give anything good to Dragonhunter then why would they bother giving a Longbow to Guardian?

I think we should just stop crying and wait when it actually comes out.

I do agree Guardian does bring some impressive long cd utilities from what they showed. There is still one thing that I didn’t see, which was on-demand interupts which are important in PvP and ranger has tons from pets, greatsword and longbow.

Not quite sure what you mean about survivability tho because LB rangers will be able to spec for Wilderness Knowledge at the expansion, which will boost its survivability quite considerably. Think about plays you could do with the new Quick Draw trait, you’ll be able to use Swoop on 4s cd with your greatsword for escaping or just for mobility purpose. I will be pretty happy survivability-wise if you ask me.

D/D ele is good, people are just favouring scepter ele because it destroys people with barely any telegraphed attacks.

So, just because you see Shnicky play fresh air ele in tournaments automatically means everyone is playing Fresh Air? O.o

That is how the meta is. Some people actually love to win so they play the best builds available to their class, which I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. You can play any other build you want but it is going to affect your team no matter what because another class can probably fill the job you’re doing, only better.

There is nothing wrong in playing this game for just for fun btw.

Yes their auto attacks hit another target, but we’ll get Piercing Arrows for free with our new Lead The Wind, which will be even better hitting 5 targets.

They do have a deflective arrow which is quite interesting but we have a stealth on #3 which augments our survivability abit more in my opinion. We will still have better burst and better range than them, plus we have an interupt/knockback on #4 which they don’t and can become a life saver. The only skill that really stood out for me was the #5 from the DragonHunter which looked pretty sweet.

From what I’ve seen I don’t see how people think this looks superior to Ranger, because while the Longbow may have similar gameplay, their skills aren’t the same.

I don’t see myself rerolling as a DragonHunter at Expansion and I don’t intend to, but I do want to play it.
