My top 3 Eu from a Desolation player’s perspective.
3. Far Shiverpeaks – Can’t forget how they managed to stay in T1 for so long even while being punished at night-times. Shame about their eventual fall in the rankings, and they didn’t go down without a certain amount of forum-whining from a few. Big respect though.
2. Blacktide – Always a nice mannered server and fun to play against. They did a good job countering night-capping with morning-capping and have a number of good strong guilds (even before a number of Far Shiverpeaks guilds transferred over).
1. Vizunah Square – For obvious reasons. As fun as it is to bash on the French (as a Brit) you have to respect their dominance of the Eu ladder.

All you people taking the match-up over Christmas this seriously -_-.
Although the forums have been fun to read while munching on mince pies. Keep it up

New years resolution to have good WvW next year? I heard Deso is a pretty good place for that

I am unaware of people asking anyone to move away from EB. Only if someone in IRON was hanging around in EB when they are supposed to be with the rest of the guild.
Just to be clear, im not an officer or anything, so I have no idea about the background whispers between commanders.
Also this whole issue could have been brought up the IRON forums or the Deso community forums.

I was online at the point this week we moved into EB to help out. We had only 1 tower on the whole map, and had lost our keep.
Obviously the numbers just weren’t there that morning in EB (EB map usually does fine throughout the week).
We ported to EB to help give the numbers to re-take our 3rd of the map.
Our commanders at that time didn’t have the best knowledge of the map, we let people know this. We followed another commander from a different guild. We were there to just help with numbers.
After successfully taking our keep and our towers back, (if i remember correctly) we heard from a scout in Deso border that the enemy were on the inner keep at DB. So we left.
We have to go full force together most of the time in order to face up to the large guilds on the opposing servers.
Again, back to the point of this thread. We need more WvW guilds to join us to fill the holes we have as a server.
Your other points don’t affect anyone who isn’t already in the guild. So I assume anyone who is in IRON is okay with those restrictions. So I don’t understand why you are bringing them up.

Thanks for going completely off the topic of this thread..
Just to give my opinion on a few issues you raised. I too at one time would have agreed with you about sticking to only 1 map and not helping out the others. It got on my nerves, however the past few weeks IRON have been (mostly) single-handedly taking care of 1.5 – 2 borderlands. We are much better at response time in switching between them.
This is not an IRON recruitment thread, We are a big WvW guild, so naturally more you see more IRON members on the WvW section of these forums. No problem if members of other Deso guilds spend more of their time playing than reading forums, I wish I was more like them to be honest :p.
The other guilds on Desolation do a great job. The guilds that slug it out on EB, and the guilds that play on the other Borders.
I think some of the other bigger guilds on Deso only have WvW events on set days of the week. Which is fair enough, however IRON is a 24/7 WvW guild.
Hence why this thread was made in the first place, to recruit more players and more WvW guilds so (hopefully) the other borderland maps wont need help from IRON 90% of the time.

Trying to fight you with our group separatly with around 25 players against your 40-50+ single zerg on your side was not a good idea.
We are still not using a single zerg of most people of the whole map to play. Our raid leaders lead their own guilds. + the pugs that want to follow them.If we have to play like you to be able to do something , i prefere to play at an other game while acting like i’m afk.
I don’t mean to be all controversial.. but there have been a number of times ive seen a big zerg filled with 2 different Arborstone guilds, 40-50+ people.
It is easy to feel all high and mighty about your superior tactics and everything.. but from the other side, unless you are a part of the organisation, it always looks like a big zerg blob.
If you split up your zerg, it means you have the superior numbers to be able to. Desolation rarely has that luxury.

Im commander Shepard and this is my favourite server on the Citadel.

Unfortunately, so far the culling seems worse for large numbers of enemies. Although I do seem to reliably be able to see my own team-mates in big battles.
Still has the problem of having to wait too long for enemies to load, which makes it difficult to get an idea of numbers until you are right up in their faces.

Somebody from Iron can explain this please ?
10 minutes scale vennom ?

I added an short fraps to see is not icon bugg
if you cannot see it tell me where to upload it
Edit you can also see first screen he had it for 5 min then 10 min even if he was alone so was self buff, and from thief last 30 seconds or 3 attacks
I believe there is a consumable you can buy that applies that buff for 10 minutes.
It only procs on a cooldown though (not tried it myself).

We have a number of loyal guilds on this server who have been here since day 1. We just need more dedicated guilds to cover the maps we don’t have the numbers to cover at the moment.
Snappless / Osii
Respect to Blacktide they have started off really strong.
I don’t think us lot on Deso can deny that there is still work to be done in terms of organisation. Its always going to be harder for the #1 server on the ladder because people tend to overestimate and focus on them as the main threat.
Side note.. All the stupid kitten posts like “omg I once killed like 3 blacktide players on my own!! the whole server is full of noobs! lololol” do nothing but show your immaturity. I’m pretty sure noone cares how “amazing” you are.

This is going to be a fun week I can tell already
Didn’t take long for the whining to begin.. Do your fighting in-game and stop rehashing the same old argument week-in week-out.

Awesome stuff
Shows what you can do as one small guild against bigger numbers ^^

i don’t think you can even start to grasp what it takes to put nightshifts in place, that is skill and organisation, something Desolation never showed and will never show unfortunately for them.
Props to VZ for being the most organised and having the most dedicated players in the world.
Hi there fellow GW2 player,
Nice to know you have a keen interest in the workings of our server.
I would like to know where you got this information about Desolation never putting nightshifts in place, have you played on our server?
I distinctly remember staying up very late/early morning a few weeks ago pretty much every night of that week. Along with many other members of IRON.
This was when we were in 3rd place in that match-up, pulling back our morale as a server after a number of tough weeks.
I really think you should refrain from talking about other servers you have no idea about. The reason RUIN joined our server over others, is because they saw we put in the hard work, and didn’t give up when things weren’t going our way.
I thought these two French servers would relish some real competition to their top spot. Although it would seem I was wrong. Easy to whine when things aren’t going your way.
Snappless / Osii
No point in attempting decent discussion…
Hope this thread gets locked.
Snappless / Osii
Explain what you mean with “adapt” please?
A good start is spending less time on the forums complaining like 5 year-olds.
It is just a fact of how WvW has played out that EVERY top-tier server should be looking to have enough diversity of guilds to cover the maps over 24 hours.
EVERY server should be trying to recruit off-peak time guilds to help bolster their off-peak time presence.
If you as a server are unwilling to accept that fact, then i am sure you will have some fun in the mid-tier match-ups.
Complaining and whining on the forums is not a good look for your server, and it will make it harder for you to convince others to join you.
Snappless / Osii
Lets also not forget a number of smaller guilds that have also been vital to the efforts of Deso.
I think it is easy to overlook their importance.
WvW has been especially competitive these last few weeks and its good to see us learn and improve our co-ordination week on week.
Snappless / Osii
I thought we were behind the “nightcapping QQQQ” conversations.
As for Desolation giving up easily when losing… I remember 2 weeks ago, we were in dead last place in our match-up, around 20k points behind 2nd place. We pushed back during the week to claim 2nd place and put pressure on 1st place. This is before any big US guild joined our server and was also after a number of difficult weeks dropping from the top tier.
I think as a server we are aware that our day-time teams need some work/numbers (especially mornings). If you people making false accusations were to see the state of our server 2-3 weeks ago and how far we have come, you would realise how ridiculous your arguments are.
Snappless / Osii
Not sure if this is happening on any other borderlands, but on the Far Shiverpeak borderlands (on Desolation’s side) when we run out the front down the stairs we are hit with a loading screen.
The loading screen seemed to never end, so closing of the client and re-logging was required.
Therefore every time we leave our spawn we have to exit via one of the side exits.

The bitterness makes my eyes water..
Snappless / Osii
Ah that is good to hear, thanks for the link ^^
Snappless / Osii
Not sure if this issue has already been addressed, but in WvW this is a little annoyance of mine.
Snappless / Osii
Even when we are doing well, people still find things to complain about.
I think we should all take a step back and think about what our server’s WvW looked like 1 – 2 weeks ago.
Also this thread has turned into the “Desolation discussion” thread.
Hows everyone enjoying this match-up?
Snappless / Osii
I used to play late night and early morning on desolation server in WvW, ruin guild has completely ruined that now as I can not even get to play WvW with 2-4 hour que times….
Arena Net I beg you plz do something about que’s in WvW…..
Well this just isn’t true…
Have you tried entering some map that is not EB?

Yesterday owned 3v1 vs Desolation Invaders. :$
slow clap
Snappless / Osii
As much as I enjoy reading this forum and find a lot of these posts funny..
I find it beyond laughable that one SFR player has decided to take it upon their shoulders and proclaim that it was because of their mighty server that Deso has found their feet and caught up into 2nd place.
This match-up has been very fun and somewhat close, and still people aren’t happy.
Snappless / Osii
It’s 3 in the afternoon, so that is nightcapping. only scores after 5 and before 11 count.
Best post yet xD
I giggled.

I hear it was not a pre-arranged ‘alliance’, but a couple of days ago on AR borderlands it was definitely a 2v1 battle.
GH was bombarding our tower from the west while attempting to spawn camp us at the same time (totally legitimate tactic).
Through the tunnel on the other side of the tower were a bunch of AR hanging out by the bridge stopping reinforcements to our AH keep while they attacked the wall from the side. The supply camp beyond the bridge changed hands multiple times.
AR and GH never attacked each other from what I saw.
I was actually impressed with your two servers being this coordinated, but I come on here and read people flat-out denying that it was communicated. So that is actually a shame.
However be it pre-organised or not, it was happening that night. I had to log off but was surprised to hear later on that we managed to hold on to AH. Must have been a good fight.

Remember, the issues with queuing WILL get better as the game gets older. We are at the time of the most people playing this game, with it being launched not long ago.
The queues aren’t THAT bad.. At this moment (mid afternoon on Sunday) I can get into any borderlands within 5-10 minutes.
Desolation has a problem with most people wanting to just go to EB all the time. You can see this clearly on WvW resets where we do poorly (mostly) in the Borderland maps and usually get the advantage in EB.
Snappless / Osii
We have a few guilds that run organised evenings and such, but compared to the 2 servers we are facing we are by no means a WvW specialised server.
The organisation will come, as the people who don’t understand WvW and get frustrated when face-rolling keep doors doesn’t seem to work leave and get bored.
We need more organised guilds to form, and for those guilds to get organised with each other.
I think being 3rd is beneficial while the free transfers are still happening because we won’t get all the glory hunters hopping to our server making queues hell.
Snappless / Osii
Please don’t drag Desolation into this -_- ..
I was quite proud of the lack of whining on the forums from us, I enjoy reading all the FS and VS arguments.
Snappless / Osii
I’d say the major queue times are predictably afternoon – evening. Its not too bad when trying to get into a borderlands map but I personally don’t even try queuing for EB.
I can pretty much reliably just port straight in once it gets to about 12:30/1:00am.
Snappless / Osii
All accusations and drama aside.. I just think it’s a shame that these night “sessions” of dominance exist in this particular match-up. I would love to see how close it would be if the numbers were as they were waking hours for the whole 24 hours.
However, the inevitable wall of VS happens at around the same time each weekday night.
Excited to see us lot on Desolation seeming to get more organised each day.
Just a shame people have to sleep some time.. you know?

Having this too, has happened on all my story quests from level 76-ish through to 80.
It consistently goes silent for the first line in every cinematic, and then (what seems to be) every first line of a different character speaking.
No lip syncing, no voice, just the subtitles.
Had no issues before one of the more recent patches.
