Add me to the list of players who got screwed. I’m just going to avoid RNG boxes forever now. If ANet gives me a chance to guarantee my purchase, by kitten I’ll take it if I want it. But otherwise, go sod yourselves.

I bought 10 Southsun Crates under the foolhardy assumption that the odds of landing at least one cool item were not less than 0.1%.
All of them were junk materials.
Did you know that passion fruits are essentially worth less than nothing?
Never again, ArenaNet. Take your RNG boxes and cram them where the sun doesn’t shine.

What a difference five months makes.
We had this same matchup back when the server transfers were made paid. This was the score: http://i.imgur.com/adl6TH0.jpg
And then here we are: http://i.imgur.com/2FdxGWV.jpg
Magnificent rally, CDers.

You could have the most effective gear in the world and it wouldn’t save you from Foefire if you stood in the radius and ate the damage.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Personally, if someone can handle the additional pressure on them because they opted for an offensive/magic find build instead of berserker/form, I don’t give a flying kitten. Regardless of gear, you’re going to explode like cannon fodder if you don’t know your class, role or skills very well. That’s more important to me than whether or not this person is in full exotic berserker or not.

Crafted an Apothecary’s Pearl Needler last night.
Feels good.

It looks somewhat small and dull. Also its tentacles are… unimpressive. They have less of the wow factor that the other jellyfish do when they do their whirling attack, anyway. Also they seem to animate more poorly, but that may just be me being overly critical.
I was banking on it looking better than the imgur’d sample we were shown did. Ehhh.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I solo’d it. Wasn’t easy but it sure as hey isn’t impossible. Also, I can confirm that the event is still there. Did it earlier tonight and I have the ori pick to show for it.

Fifteen points in Beastmastery will make things a whole lot easier as far as pets are concerned. From there you should be able to decide whether you want to specialize more in your pet or not. I suggest you do, for general purposes, as wielding it like an extra weapon makes Rangers one of the most unique and potentially effective professions on the field.
Other than that, I have no real big advice than “learn your profession.” Spend a lot of time in it, try different weapon/pet combos, get used to the timing of pet skill executions (there is a half to few seconds delay between hitting F2 and having them use the skill).
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Trust me, there are plenty of people who know your pain OP. Very early this morning, we at Crystal Desert had put great expense and effort into fortifying all our holdings knowing that the night time was our most anemic time, when we had neither the manpower or resources to reach into other territories. Instead we entrenched.
Around four AM, an enormous SoS zerg swept across the EB and devoured everything in its path. SBI was the first to fall, and knowing they were coming was terrifying. All we could do was siege up and wait to make a stand.
Being surrounded on all sides at QL without a way to fight back was disheartening. All our siege was obliterated in mere minutes because such numbers had nothing to fear with the amount of AoE they brought to bear. The gates couldn’t be repaired despite the large amount of supply we had in storage because the knockdowns came through the gate and getting close enough to repair was more or less instant death. More of the same played out at our keep when despite our best efforts to stall the invaders, the gates came down and it all swept in like a flood. I was actually in a downed state for a good while probably because no one saw me in time to finish me off immediately. If anything, that emphasized how insignificant my presence was.
What rakes me is that we just don’t have the numbers. I am freaking sick of this matchup for the past two months. And with server transfers being so expensive, we can’t hope for any new blood except from within our community.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I just guested in Tarnished Coast to test to see if this was a server-exclusive issue. It is not, at least they are having the same issue as well. Enemies did not grant kill count for the daily achievement, either.

World: Crystal Desert
Zone: Harathi Hinterlands
Area: Ourobore Caves
Enemy: Skritt
This bug is something odd. When slain, most of the skritt in this area will not give any EXP or loot drops. Only a few seemingly random skritt and the veterans around the chest do. The respawn timer also seems very short, although I read that this has always been the case in this area. Please look into it sometime, ANet. B|

I am quite proud of his style even though he runs with a noble mask (monocle) these days.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Cry more, really. I’d really like an ascended quiver for myself one day, but its costs in time and resources are akin to a mini-legendary. That is ridiculous for what should be the most basic piece of stowing equipment for a ranger. I just dropped for Rox’s quiver and slapped it on my exotic backpiece, wham bam thank you ma’m.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Definitely a brown bear. F2 for AoE condition purge for all the burning, and bears are the closest thing to immortal you’ll see in a party.
I took my snow leopard for DPS and snaring but it got thrashed pretty quick in most scenarios.

Actually, the Blacks from WD still have the five year warranty backing.
I never trusted Seagate to begin with. B|
2TB and 7200 RPM for the same price as the WD Black is hard to argue with though!

Can I take a moment to discourage you from using the Caviar Green series of hard drives for your gaming rig.
It’s a slow hard drive (as its goal isn’t speed, but power conservation) and it has been prone to high failure rates in the past.
A much better Caviar Black (same storage) is available these days for less than a hundred dollars on Amazon.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I would gladly overclock it, but I don’t have a good cooling solution atm.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I have the following setup:
FX-6200 @ 3.8 GHz
AMD HD7870 2GB @1100 GHz
With all settings at max, Divinity’s Reach gate easily reaches 60 fps.
Not even shadows affect this setup much in terms of performance.
But reflections? Reflections murder performance, I have found. Turn them off completely and you won’t miss them after an hour or so. In fact, I think the water looks more like natural water without ’em as water only reflects like at max reflections when it is perfectly still.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
It’s an interrupt. A very useless interrupt, but it has saved me like… once.
The downed skills compared to, I dunno, Mesmer/Thief/Ele are absolute garbage. Even Necromancers have it better as their 1-skill allows them to siphon health and survive well against all but the most overpowering or outnumbering forces.
Rangers are just screwed though.
Why the Hell does Throw Dirt cause bleed? WHY?
Why the Hell do we even have Thunderclap? It makes no sense from a mechanical or lore perspective.
Lick Wounds is too tardy to be useful and it seems like it’s been powered down at some point as well.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
One time events are the most monumentally stupid design choice ANet could have made about this game’s special events. And yet, ANet is full of smart people who mean well and probably actually like their fans. So what gives?
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
If everyone could afford a better PC, then this problem wouldn’t exit.
But it does. It’s a little arrogant to respond to the problem with, “lol maybe you should have a better computer.”
FYI, I purpose built this computer to far exceed the minimum specs of modern games (indeed, that of GW2) and it STILL has issues in some cases. Slow/nonrendering dangers, lag spikes, what have you. Some things happen regardless of how beastly your rig is.

This thread will probably be deleted. Very depressing.
I sure hope not. If they do delete this thread because of all the negative feedback, then that just shows they don’t care and have no will to learn from this mistake. It also shows that we shouldn’t care either because the same problems we face this time will show up the next time.
He was referring to my post, which was a standalone thread until it was merged for whatever reason. Here it is again:
Hi. I am a longtime Guild Wars player, as I’m sure many Guild Wars 2 players are. I have been with your game since 2005 and have been through many ups and downs with the series as a whole. I did not have an opportunity to participate in any of Lost Shores because I have a job that isn’t even going to let me spend Thanksgiving with my family in its pursuit of the almighty dollar, so why would it allow me to have a weekend off?
Reading up on this debacle saddens me. Standing from the outside looking in, almost every phase seems to have been one-time only (thus locking out people with responsibilities like myself), but even if they had been cyclical and repeating, it doesn’t look like they would have worked reliably. Even people who were able to attend the whole event walked away feeling angry about it.
It seems to me like there was a disastrous lack of oversight on the entirety of the content and it was rolled out with carelessness about its integrity and also carelessness about other players. Imagine my chagrin when I heard that the rewards for this finale event were quite… hefty. There was a workaround alright, but that also was a crapshoot in an alley filled with other desperate players attempting to experience the event and loot the rewards for themselves. And even then, there were rampant errors and glitches that excluded all but the most tenacious of players from engaging in this extraneous way to participate in the event.
And even for some of those most obstinate and determined of players, they were denied by a sudden mass disconnect, and then the patch that eliminated the whole thing at a time BEFORE midnight PST on November 19th.
Across the seven years I’ve seen of Guild Wars, I can safely say that this is one of the lowest points I’ve seen the current game in. I will conclude my post with a few suggestions.
One-time events: stop it. The idea sounds extremely intriguing in theory and would, for many, be a memorable closeout to an overarching metaevent. But in practice, the servers end up slammed, people get insurmountably separated from their party or guild, the performance is ATROCIOUS in both mechanics and actual FPS due to everyone being driven by the “last chance, only chance” desperation. And then you have the disenfranchised individuals like myself, who had an exactly 0% chance of making it to any of these events.
Make these events weekly, not weekendly. A week allows much more time for busy individuals to participate in the content. Not to say anything of those who live in Oceanic regions, who seem to be routinely left out in the cold due to ANet’s focus on the American-European contingent. Guild Wars is a global game and the developer should consider its special events with a global perspective.
Lastly, do a better job with QA. This debacle has in fact happened before. REMEMBER THE SHATTERER from Beta Weekend 2? I do. Bitterly.
Signed,
A longtime Guild Wars fan

Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Ok I can’t type more with tiny phone finger keypad. See you in game!
Do tell how the wording in this representative’s message does anything BUT raise expectations.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Hello. I have mained Ranger since the beginning of GW1. The versatile warrior who wraps himself in the cloak of the wilderness and strikes hard and fast has always appealed to me over that of the fully armored soldier charging headlong on the frontlines.
That said, I am angry.
Probably too angry to type coherently about these changes.
Nothing of importance was addressed. Token updates were made to mediocre skills.
Looking at this, and then looking at the Elementalist’s update (Fiery Greatsword gets power and condition buffs now???) doesn’t anger me so much as sadden me, however.
Excuse the melodrama, but beating the Ranger profession with a dead horse has been the apparent trend since 2010.
I am disappointed to see it continues into 2012.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
The voice acting is magnificent and it is just as I imagined the Mad King to sound like in all those years in GW1. Great job on the casting and direction, Anet!

Ran it twice, once on my Ranger and again on my Necro.
On my Necro I got a Berserker’s Acolyte Mask of Rage (80 Exotic).
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I’ve honestly changed my mind about this puzzle. The learning curve is practically vertical and it doesn’t give much room for mercy or error, which automatically culls a lot of players that don’t have the dexterity, patience or the determination (or plain stubbornness) to take it on over and over again. There are several bugs (even instance breaking ones, such as the one that kept me from success fourteen times on Sunday morning), but overall it’s pretty interesting once you beat it.
During all my runs, it was either an asura, human or sylvari that consistently made it to the top with me, if I wasn’t the lone survivor.
Never really saw a charr or norn make it. I know a guildie of mine has because he won’t let me live down the fact that he did it in two tries last night. :P
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
There’s already so much D&D influence in GW2 and magic is such a ubiquitous thing in Tyria that it wouldn’t be hard to accept a Bottomless Quiver or similar wizardry, especially since lorewise all items with a colored rarity are considered ‘enchanted’ and thus above the mundane routines such as restocking arrows.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
All cosmetic back equipment has a hide option.
I support this idea, +1.

You paid the gold to get to them first.
Also these drops aren’t guaranteed and further bound by time, while crafted ones are a sure thing if the effort is put in and also not bound by the season.
The gold is the price you pay for the privilege of getting them at your own leisure.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Sorry but until ANet fixes this particular item, you can only upgrade it with the lowest grade of gemstone since accessories will only take upgrades that are the same level or less as the respective accessory. Since the Mad Memories books have no level restriction…
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I made it to the top 14 times last night and failed the Belfry jump as many times.
… It turns out I was in a bugged instance. Some people made it, but no matter how well I timed the jump it never went through. Today I did nothing different on that last jump and I nailed it.
WHY
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
It really isn’t.
And before you troglodytes out there call me “bad,” or tell me “l2p,” I HAVE FINISHED IT. And I was HAPPY because I knew I didn’t have to deal with it again after that, not BECAUSE I finished it.
Therein lies the problem. The victory is hollow. I didn’t really achieve anything through skill of my own, I won a war of attrition.
This was all too clear after the long drop. I cleared the second half without a blink or stutter. The stress of the rising tide and the obstruction of running with a crowd made it all more difficult than it really is, let alone the various cheap shots (intended or no) like a schizophrenic camera, hidden geometry snags and random failureports back to the start that can ruin an otherwise inspired run. The bugs and the design choice to make this a group event really cast a black mark over this jump puzzle.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
No. It’s the 31st one.
The event on the 28th has no achievement ties. This has been stated multiple times by devs.

Yeah, the reflections in water kitten pretty hard with this on, unfortunately. I took a couple of screens showing that reflections just completely fall apart when you put the camera at a shallower angle to the water.

Start: I noticed the clipping almost immediately on the left shoulder. Right one seems fine but left one is terrible. Not sure about the official name of this skin, but this particular one is the Rescuer’s Mantle of the Grove. The first time this skin is available is from a karma vendor in Bloodtide Coast (lvls 45-55), and the clipping was present there too. I took off the armor top to make sure it wasn’t the chest piece causing the clipping. Taking off every piece except the shoulders confirms that it’s not a conflict with other pieces of gear.
Acquisition: I got this particular set of shoulders from an Danu, a karma vendor in Sparkfly Fen.

When I first saw Prayer to Dwayna, I scratched my head a bit because the numbers did not seem to justify using it over any other heal I had access to. It seems I am not alone, thank goodness. Frankly that skill is trash, along with every other human racial. Sylvari racials, at least, have cursory usefulness. Human racials are nearly completely inferior to any profession skill that could go in the corresponding slot, ESPECIALLY the elite skills.
I don’t see a problem with buffing them A LITTLE if their only use is going to be in PvE and WvW.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
I’m actually not feeling too bad about my Necro. Sure the bugs suck but I find her genuinely fun. Just hit 60 on her in fact. It’s my Ranger I’m feeling down about. Ranger slot skills are all so… well, BORING. Spirits are weak as hell and a crapshoot, traps are meh, and there is too much focus on the weak pets. Same deal with traits, with Vigor, Toughness AND Healing Power being spread across three different trait lines. On the other hand, Necromancers are versatile and a handful of fun with their traits fairly logically sorted out.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
Even WITH the 20% cooldown reduction from the Blood Magic Major Trait, you’re still looking at five seconds of effect for 48 seconds of fiddling with your mouse wheel for Well of Power. As neat as that skill is after getting hit with a plague carrier, the recharge is far too long for where it needs to be. More of the Wells should be like Well of Blood, which is at 10 seconds of effect for 36 seconds of recharge. That seems fairly reasonable to me. For more powerful offensive Wells like Well of Suffering, 5 : 36 is also fine. It’s the support Wells mainly that I feel need a bit more oomph or quickness about them.
Keirlann Aurion – Ranger – Chieftain of the Ace Guard [AceG]
CDer here. It’s true, we had the benefit of high population during the 5-8 AM CDT hours. Not only did we turn the map completely green in the Dragonbrand Borderlands, we also drove TC back to their outpost and turned the field into a carrion yard for a good half hour.
I was present for one of the Orbhacking incidents. It was kind of infuriating after all the effort that went into not only capturing the fortress in AH, but fortifying it to a hilarious extent as well. And all those siege engines and reinforced gates and regular patrols all went to waste when some kitten using a flyhack clipped through everything and almost got the orb. He failed and got stuck in the ground, but it still glitched the altar and left us essentially orbless. I’m sure the incident is marked somewhere in this thread, but I felt I had to reiterate it here since that was a black mark on an otherwise amusing week.
The bug causing models to not render didn’t bother me too much. Relogging solved that issue. Shrug
