Reforged Vanguard was started during the headstart period, but remains small with a dedicated group of helpful and friendly core players that play daily.
We are looking to expand our playerbase with an aim to have 24/7 coverage for dungeons and WvW. What does this mean? We want to have at least one full guild party available at all times, ready to run dungeons, defend our Borderlands or simply do events together. Our members also participate in sPvP and we would like to form a regular team for tournaments.
We are also looking for two new recruitment officers to cover both major time zones. Recruitment officers are expected to actively recruit new members with a minimum of spam and no “drive-by” invites.
A website is currently under construction and we have a Ventrilo server.
Though we place no restrictions on classes, we currently have a lot of Warriors and Mesmers, with a lack of Thieves, Guardians and Engineers.
New members should also be aware of how Influence works and be prepared to represent and build [ReVa]. That’s not to say you can’t represent any other guilds you are a member of, but we will never get those Level IV upgrades unless people represent. Put another way, those guilds with hundreds of members don’t need the Influence, we do.

From what I’ve noticed they’ve been keeping a close eye on community feedback but that it takes some time to fix the various bugs and exploits. I understand that it’s frustrating (I’m awaiting some fixes as well) and a lot of people exploit it (which they shouldn’t) but to compare it to WoW’s business is silly..
Why? Because WoW has 10 million + sub worth of money to invest and A LOT more employees to deal with community support and game development. As soon as GW2 was released and they obviously didn’t expect quite such a success I noticed they put up on their front page that they’re looking to hire people (This should also tell you something).
I just get the impression that they’re slightly overwhelmed and simply don’t have the manpower and/or time to iron out all bugs and fixes asap. Also this is an entirely new game. WoW is working from a platform that’s been out for years and had time to iron out all the kinks and so they’re able to work from that. GW2 is a whole new massive world and recently released. Bugs are to be expected.
So as a community we can help Anet by reporting bugs we find, NOT exploit them and wait till they get fixed patiently and they will be. I’ve been around since BWE1 and the various problems get fixed with time. Most things worked before launch it was the sheer amount of people they couldn’t anticipate when all went wrong but again we patiently waited and they’ve been fixing stuff ever since.
Also keep in mind that people in BETA often didn’t want to go to higher levels to test content because they didn’t want to spoil it (and some weren’t made accessible) so most of the high up content was never as thoroughly tested and as a result you’ll notice that the low levels are quite polished while the high level zones and dungeons have all sorts of things wrong with them.
What I would suggest to Anet is if they want to speed up and test new content in the future is to select some people/groups from the community (Like WoW has paragon) to test the content, Both skilled and average gamers.
One way of doing this is to release a patch with the new content but only allow the designated teams/people to run the dungeon/content for a few days. Then you can tweak any bugs or balancing issues and open up the content to a larger audience.
You might be able to implement a simple way for you to control access to this content like an event that blocks access (Like the event that blocks CoF at times) but that you can surpass with the people you run the dungeon with for testing…. Just some random ideas, but it might help.
Plenty of people would volunteer to test content (I’d be one of them :P) and then people might not feel like you implement changes without testing them first.
There’s no need to even get that complex. LotRO has two testing servers – Palantir and Bullroarer. Palantir is a closed pre-beta test server accessible by application, and involves a NDA, that is used for testing things like new expansions, sometimes before most people are even aware of them. Bullroarer is a (usually) public beta server that has the next major update for people to test.
Now, anyone that’s played LotRO for any real length of time knows that Turbine really doesn’t make proper use of those servers (some might even say they completely ignore the beta testers altogether), but the concept is sound.
I keep seeing people say that SB auto-attack does more damage than LB Rapid Fire, but I have yet to see any proof. I run both bows and have yet to see my SB crit more than 2k, while my LB regularly crits for 5k and occasionally goes over 6k (6823 on a Veteren Risen a couple of hours ago), this while there is a difference of (I think) about 75 in the max damage between the two weapons. Please explain to me how it is possible for the LB to output 32500 damage (assuming 5x 6k crits and 5x 500 hits) in 10 hits at 50% crit while the SB doesn’t seem able to top 11500 (5x 2k and 5x 300 discounting bleed). The SB most certainly is not firing thirty shots in the time it takes RF to do 10, so how does it outdamage RF?
What? * sadface *
Jungle Stalker: Ms Kitty Fantastico (character limit didn’t allow for Miss)
It’s a Buffy reference to the cat version of Chuck Norris.
Shark: Fluffy
White Moa: Dinoindaskies
Nobody has gotten that one yet…
Owl: Pallas Athene
Eagle: Aquilas
I tried to name my Hyena Mr Bitey but it was unacceptable for some reason (as was Mister or Mista Bitey).
I can’t remember what I call my Jellyfish now, but I did call him Squidly at one time and Squishy another. Ohhh… I should call him Irukandji!
I am having difficulty understanding a lack of several things.
1. I may be missing something here, and I’m hoping I am, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to have custom chat channels. Actually, custom channels I can do without, I just want a channel where the officers in my guild can discuss things in private.
2. Why the total lack of voice support? Lord of the Ring Online has an adequate, if slightly buggy, in-game system that works for everyone in your party. It makes communication during dungeons and PvP much, much, quicker and easier. Without it we are obliged to download Teamspeak, Mumble and Ventrilo and hope that everyone else has the same programs and that we can use a server… or make do with typing which invariably gets people killed.
3. Target indicators. Again I must refer to LotRO which has a system of about a dozen different icons that can be used to indicate both the roles of party members and the target priority of the enemy. GW2 seems to have a single target indicator.
As an officer in LotRO, you can tell your party “we are going to attack Skull first, Spear second and Crossed Swords third, while Joe, who has the Leaf over his head, kites around the guy with the Bow & Arrows icon.” in voice chat and then type in the /officer channel “if this idiot screws up again, I’m gonna kick him”.
Shouldn’t Guild Wars 2 have better in-guild communication? Since voice chat is usually considered essential to guilds, shouldn’t there also be voice support? Since GW2 is a game with a heavy focus on group PvP, shouldn’t we also have something better than a single target indicator?
You know what I would love? If all these people that came onto the forums of new games with claims of “no testing” could actually produce a single title released on the PC in the last 15 years that was released bug-free and/or actually played a game in early beta when there was actually was a lack of testing.
Maybe I am mis-interpreting the OP, but there certainly is, in some cases, a lack of skins. I haven’t really looked into heavy and light armour yet, but I am really getting bored seeing the Pirate outfit everywhere.
The Pirate gear should be a skin that is exclusive to the Pirate Karma vendor in Lion’s Arch, otherwise there is no real point in him being there other than being a lacklustre reward for completing a (very complex and sometimes obnoxious) jumping puzzle that most people seem to complete by using something which is almost, but not quite, an exploit.
But no, the Pirate outfit is everywhere. Every single one of the Tier 1 Dungeon sets use the same skin, while the Tier 2 sets are all unique. This begs the question: what is the point of the Tier 1 sets? Nobody in their right mind is going to actually use them over the Tier 2 sets and since they are all identical (to the Pirate set), there is no incentive to get them. Ever. I don’t think the cheaper set should look the same as the expensive one, but they should look different to each other and half the other generic gear in the game. It’s not just the Dungeon gear, either. I have seen the Pirate skin in a lot of places, hell, it is even given to us the first time we complete Story Mode of every single Dungeon.
The karma sets from Orr are in a similar position. They are all exactly the same skin which seems to have been inspired by a bad vampire hunter movie.
Isn’t the point of grinding in this game not to get “better” gear but to get cosmetic gear that suits your character? I’ve just mentioned fourteen skins lacking from the game. Fourteen extra skins that can be used to further customise your character. That said, this game has a long and bright future and I have no doubt that those sets will eventually get unique skins. The Dev’s have better things to do at this point in time.
Trooper items certainly are rewarded in the story, that’s where my Ranger got the shoulders and “helm” she wears and I also have jacket gloves and boots(?) in my bank.
That’s a Human Ranger with the Order of Whispers in case it makes a difference.
The personal story will, generally speaking, push you to areas appropriate to your level. It doesn’t finish until level 80, either, and skipping it is kind of stupid, especially since it gives items that you can’t get anywhere else (okay, you can get a back slot item from your guild, but it’s prohibitively expensive) and always gives nice experience.
Look on your map. There is an area connected to your present zone which is the level range you are looking for. The only time this won’t be the case is when you want to go to a lvl 80 zone (Orr). Just be sure to take note when you enter the new area because there are some places that are for lvl 65+ right next to areas for lvl 10…
The other night, I was running CoF when Windows decided it was time to update (the popup that I usually get giving me 15 minutes notice and the option to delay/cancel didn’t show up in-game). On re-logging I found I was unable to join my group and had to sit out the rest of the run at the entrance.
At the entrance, I was one of more than two dozen people standing around and after a couple of minutes I noticed something – not one of them was representing a guild. I have also noticed that when one of our guild’s members is in CoF he never represents. When I have done guild runs through CoF, however, every member of the guild shows as representing, even when not in the party. I have seen this every time I have been to the dungeon entrance – nobody ever seems to be representing.
So what’s going on? Is there some bug that stops people representing in that specific location, or is there something else going on?
I fought the dragon in Sparkfly Fen last night and got Bronze, despite the fact I was there when the event started, didn’t stop to rez anyone (primarily because the dead were too far away from me) and only stopped DPS when feared. Level 80 Ranger switching LB/SB, with both bows doing around 980 max damage.
On the other hand, today, I was in Fireheart Rise and couldn’t be bothered stopping to help the nearby escort so I fired off a single arrow as I ran past… and got a gold medal for my effort, or lack thereof.
Something does seem to be off with how we get credit, and I tend to agree that if the use of Boons/Conditions, combo fields, healing and rezzing means you’re going to get less credit than someone who goes straight DPS, then people are going to stop doing those things altogether.
I can’t speak about “speed runs” of anything other than CoF but, as someone already said, it isn’t an exploit it’s just plain easy. An average of 50s per run adds up quickly and I highly doubt that all of the dozens of people spamming LFG in that map are there for the armour.
Look at it this way. Each of the lvl 80 sets require grinding a given dungeon for tokens, or grinding events for Karma, with the exception of the Cultural sets which require in excess of 100g to complete (I think it’s around 110g?). Dungeon running for gold is no different to doing it for tokens or jumping around maps looking for back-to-back events for Karma. Actually, that’s not quite true, since it takes 60 runs (I don’t remember if each piece is 300 tokens or if only some of them are) of a given dungeon to get the relevant set, and over 200 runs to get the Cultural set (which then requires you buying, or grinding for, the Runes you need to finish it).
