[Suggestion] A Vertical Camera Slider

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sold Out.7625

First off – Anet, you created an absolutely wonderful game that has captivated me for over two years now and it will keep doing so. That much is certain.

I would personally like to re-suggest a topic that has been brought up several times in the past – and now that the game has some polish, a potential possibility to make the game just a little more perfect: The vertical camera slider.

Guild Wars 2 always had a fairly well-movable controllable camera; the horizontal slider has always been an option that many players use simply to make everything just a bit nicer and have characters block the screen less.

Yet as it is, the camera is better with some playable races than others – Norn and Charr are decently well off when it comes to camera control as they take up a far lower part of the screen and on a close-up, one doesn’t have to see their entire character model. Sylvari and humans have a decent range of possibilities but it starts being very uncomfortable on any slope – and then of course, there’s Asura who have trouble looking up without being blocked by their entire character model.

  • Screenshot 1: Shows how much of the camera is really unused in combat, causing you to see less of the enemy and to watch the ground. Particularly unpleasing as some of GW2’s prettiest sights can barely be seen as they are on towery peaks and in the sky!
  • Screenshot 2: Showing off how awkward looking up can be. Not always this problematic, but most of the time, it’s quite a possibility.

ArenaNet have already given us some amazing quality of life changes – including camera FOV tweaks, a fix that made the camera scale with the character just a bit more as well as having fixed all those pesky beta issues. So, thanks for all that you did, thanks for all you will do – this game rocks my socks off. And I don’t doubt you will be able to deliver more amazing surprises in the future.

So, thank you. And looking forward to more time spent on a wonderful game. (Even though a camera change would probably elongate that just a biiiit more. ;-)

A Vertical Camera Slider - Easily possible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sold Out.7625

Dear ArenaNET crew and other people reading this.

The camera situation is rather dire in Guild Wars 2. And people have had trouble with it for a long time. As it is, the camera is just too much focused on keeping your character on the screen, to the point where he or she could block the entirety of teh screen. Have you ever had a chance to look up in the game without your character blocking your entire camera? I doubt it.

Compare to other games and you’ll get addicted to a proper camera much earlier. I lost count to the deaths attributed to the fact that my character blocked the entire view.

There is a horizontal slider, is there not? Why is a vertical one impossible?

That’s really the main question here. An implementation should not be so hard, but it should raise the quality of the game’s steering and landscape-seeing hundredfold.

As it is, I would have to roll a minimum-height Norn to have any chance to see anything in the landscape. Example in the attachments.

Shadow Assassin Outfit - Overly reflective

Bumping this with another screenshot of the high-shader issue that is -only- on this armor’s bow and on no other piece of equipment in the game. As previously show, it works fine on medium settings.

Dye is Abyss, but the reflections get only worse the brighter you go.

And right now it is downright making me unable to enjoy this unless I want to lose a lot of detail in zones like, say, Dry Top or the Citadel.

Shadow Assassin Outfit - Overly reflective

Heya. This is mostly meant to ask if the -extreme- amount of reflections on the Shadow Assassin outfit (female version) is intentional. It is a Shaders high issue only – the issue does not persist with shaders at medium.

As it is, I have to decide whether I want higher quality environment or look at my armor without having it glow white, no matter which color I dyed it – even with celestial, the reflection’s white is entirely different and off.

Not only that, but even the boots and all metal parts seem to have a higher amount of detail with a medium setting.

Any chance of ever seeing the white overly reflective coating that is on no other armor removed?

As it is, the thing reflects in FULL white, even in a dark night environment.

Attachment is a comparison between medium and high shaders on the outfit.

Another Swimsuit Request!

Yes! Fie to those bathing suits! They totally deserve to be turned into a tonic instead of armor! So much so, that a purring feline youngling would taint half the sentences’ contents!

Now, Tyria is a place of realistic armors and respect. One where nobody would ever put on anything even slightly silly in combat! Those bathing suits don’t even have the required flip-flops of real armor, that you would -definitely- fight Flame worshippers and dragons and icebrood and gunmen with!

And none of armors would ever be silly, ever!

Joke aside though, the bathing suit is -incredibly- pretty and it would be a great item to release. I’d personally put it at the beginning of summer though, partying in Southsun with Kasmeer and Faren.

Pic of sensible armors that are so much better than a bikini has been supplied.

Edit: And no, that is not girls-only. See? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/c/ce/Feathered_armor_human_male_front.jpg/280px-Feathered_armor_human_male_front.jpg

Does Orange even count as a Space Marine color set?

Either way, here’s my Adeptus Astartes.

Or rather, it’s just Jara. Or rather, her ultraheavy and thick looking armor… which is even sillier because it serves the purpose of a squishy set.

Am fairly proud of the ‘flame’ theme on the boots and the shoulderpads, as if someone drew them on.

Mwah. Small Thread revival.

Also, I think it would be a nice idea to introduce a simple “rate the people above you” thing, that makes people who post just so much more (in most cases) appreciated and turns this into a bit of fun beyond “Post pic and bai!”

That said, I’ll start with Dante:

Dante, I love the modern look of it. The dyes aren’t my thing but they fit the hair well! And the shirt is just a lifesaver in any light look nowadays! 7.5/10, could be a 9 for me with dyes I (personally only) prefer more.

And Manifest: Naiiis. Love it. I am imagining it looks not -quite- as perfect during daytime due to your sword, but this is pretty much a 9.5/10. I usually dislike male Norn looks.

Well, here’s mine. Feel free to do the rating thing or not, but I think it’s a good way to keep threads like these fun and alive~.

I guess I could live with some odd placements. But yeah, jumping to have my weapon spazz out is just what is the most out of hand.

I do like the new running animation, but with kitten y smiles, jumping bugs, clipping, and rotating hammers it’s just not worth it. Particularly the jump thing just drives me nuts though, as a lover of pressing my spacebar often.

I’ve been experiencing this with the new animations too. In addition, doing 100 Blades triggers the weapon spazzing out, too.

Also, I recommend a change of thread-title to make it more apparent what the topic is, due to it affecting any 2-handed weapon.

Edit: Thanks for adding the changed title~. Am surprised to not be seeing more threads about it, but then again there’s a lot of critical things going on with dungeons.

Naaaah. We’re just 10%. We don’t deserve weapon skins, back items, fixes, working/ surviving turrets, gadget traits, or anything we have been asking for for a year.

Also, it’s been confirmed that we will never receive legendary effects in kits. And “maybe” footfalls and auras.

Edit: Attached Phineas Poe’s screenshot from today.

Hope you don’t mind, buddy.

Some pretty interesting ideas here. I was actually spit-balling some ideas on how to address this today. This has always been something that has bothered me, too.

For example:

  • Have kits respect the existing back item flag. If you have a back item and you want to show it, hide the kit. If you don’t have a back item or choose to hide it, always show the kit. Obviously this makes it a little harder than usual to tell what kit you are using, so:
    • A nameplate icon similar to Elemental Attunements would be a good addition (I may add this regardless if we can get the art )
    • Move the kit somewhere else on your body. I know, crazy right? For example, who doesn’t like a sweet fanny-pack?

Hopefully this finally gets resolved soon, and I’ll do what I can to see that happen. Keep in mind, as Colin mentioned before, that there are some pretty beefy projects going on that are consuming our engineering time. But that doesn’t exactly mean we can’t sneak stuff in here and there .

-Bill

Well, you know. It’s fine, really. I presume he followed his promise and 100% did what he could to see it happen. I mean… Okay, he could do literally nothing / he could forget about his own promise, but he did what he could.

At least we’re not Necros or staff-users who now spend 3.9k gold on the Crossing.

And at least we’re profiting from that greatsword or back item skin that comes with every single up- Oh, waaaait a minute.

Well, time to get a legen- hm? Oh. Well, crap. I’ll go for armor then. I mean, it will get blocked by my kit backpack, but at least it exists. Right, guise?

Guise?

Looks great! What is the chest/legs of that set? Looks kinda like Inquest on top but the trench coat doesn’t really match what I thought it looked like.

The coat is the “(Berserker’s) Rawhide Vest”. – WvW – [&AgFKnAAA]
The pants are the “Commando’s Pants”. – Personal Story Only – [&AgHUGAAA]

The rest of the set are the Aetherblade Medium Shoulders and Gloves,
Swindler Boots because they go well with the pants,

Welcome to the Engineer forum. The topic is always ‘hobosacks’ ;P

Which makes me wonder why people let the main Hobosack thread on the forums die so willingly. Pretty sure stubbornness is the way to go here, and keeping this on the frontpage.

Well personally, I don’t think there’s really much to say on the matter. All of the good solutions involve an inordinate number of single-use resources. I fully expect the eventual solution to be a single tickbox

Yeeeup. And we need to some way advertise the fact that we really want one~.

Fannypack might be overdoing it a little / risking a few severe clipping things, but having something hanging from the character’s side, like the right hip, seems fairly simple.

A stick-grenade on ’nade kit,
a small vial in either orange or pink for Flamethrower and Elixir gun,
and a brown medkit satchel for the medkit,

for starters could all work. Especially since most armors wouldn’t really clip with them too much, as those are the places our pistols and one-hand weapons are usually stored when sheathed anyway.

It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.

We’re currently focusing our engineering (programmers, not guys with net guns) resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.

As always, please post your ideas of what you’d like to see solution wise, we love to see the fun ideas y’all come up with too!

Alchemy

  • Only real odd-ball here is Deadly Mixture. Elixir gun doesn’t need damage, its a support/condition kit. While flamethrower does. Get rid of this and give one the flamethrower traits 15% damage for the kit. Elixir gun needs to get its own trait (conditions last longer would probably make the most sense).

EG is actually a very good damage source due to acid bomb, so I quite like the 15% damage increase I have on it. That said, a second trait for condis in the same place would be a nice way to add choice between condi and power builds.

While this would be amazing on the long run, allowing us to toggle the backpacks would be a nice-enough start. Especially for the kits with less bloaty weapons.

Sold Out.7625

I personally really enjoy all of those suggestions (and am glad that the toggle kit backpacks option will be added even without this suggestion’s content. Some day. ;>).

Tonics, Minis, and titles are all fairly easy to implement, as the models and scripts are already a given.

The most ideal thing there is the fact that lots of infos already got collected: Playing time & world completion per character, Fractal level, etc. are all already listed. And the other achievements as well as the dungeon-specific things might have to start at 0, but I would not mind striving for them.

I can understand that things like coloring your class’ skills like red guardian bubbles, pink flamethrower, blue mesmer, will likely never happen, but… well. On the long run, who knows? Might not be too hard to add a toggle-color-choice for your skills and recoloring the skills depending on the toggle. After all, the replace color option on photoshop for example is a thing of a few minutes.

tl;dr

Achievements are an insanely effective way to get people to try around, see what your class can do, and they will very likely learn something new. So seeing this implemented would be pretty awesome. I still remember the daily completely based around combo fields a long while back – people learned, and they learned fast. Including level 80s with Legendaries, and even dungeon veterans.

Ugh…another “trench coat” armor. I really do not understand why most of the medium armor chest pieces show up as trench coats. I would rather see more variety that includes chain mail intertwined with great looking leather (which is also lack luster as far as I can see).

I really like your point, so +1 to that. But on the whole, this is one trenchcoat armor that I would love to have. Plus, it’s the only time they tried putting something like western style gear in, with that look, and I always dug that in steampunky settings like in Guild Wars 2.

Useless fact: Did you know chainmail armors apparently used to be around as heavy as plate armors?

"Commando" Armor set for PvE contents!

Sold Out.7625

Something I noticed a good while ago, and hoping in vain to see added, is a certain medium armor set that is by now restricted only to PvP and a few specific armor parts that are available only through the use of choosing rewards carefully in the personal story.

And that set would be the _ Commando _ set.

For now the only parts of it available are the coat, the leggings, and the shoulder armor. This by itself is great, but the problem here is that you are required to get them from the personal story, and even then you don’t get all of them.

Which still means we lack the gloves and boots (which are barely visible anyway) and, especially, the hat. There is a personal story reward with its name, but on medium armor, it is actually a pirate mask skin rather than the intended hat.

It is really sad to see this downright beautiful skin go to waste, and I am actually rather close to simply running an alt for that armor since my main is completely unable to get it now that I have finished the personal story.
