Sword and Dagger is actually really good if you are “good” with the Thief class and understand it, which 90% dont at the moment hehe.

Flanking Strike is good for getting behind your opponent and avoiding heavy attacks from your opponent. Thief in melee should be focusing on backstab for heavy damage, not Heartseeker spam which only burns down your inititative crazy fast leaving you vulnerable as a bunny rabbit on the battlefield.

I agree. I find Sword + Dagger quite good in PvP, especially WvW. This set gives you lots of tools to survive and prolong fights which is good when you’re fighting someone who knows what they are doing.

Sword + Dagger has a stun break, condition removal, boon removal, and a snare. Anyone who thinks it’s weak in PvP is crazy. It’s not your highest DPS set, but you can use Dagger + Pistol or something else in your other set to get your burst off.

/team communication varies a lot by server as well. Some servers like Blackgate have great team communication for solo players, while others like Sanctum of Rall you might never get any respones (only complaining).

While free server transfers are up, if it’s a possibility, you can take the time to find a server that is a better fit.

I do not seem to be able to vendor old soulbound items for cash. Is there another way to get rid of them other than just trashing them?

Can you target him with single target and hit him if so pribally not an exploit. If only aoe works i would say report it.

All I saw him getting hit myself was Mage AoE. I can’t confirm that you can’t target him with single target spells, but it didn’t look like he was getting hit with any.

Just want to know if I should report this, or if anyone knows, or has heard Anet respond to this already. I saw some people doing this today, and it doesn’t seem intended, but the Keep Lord is standing on a grate, so I’m not sure.

My issue with the original post is not the difficulty, but the rewards.

15s and no loot? That seems either buggy, or totally not even worth the trouble.

I queued up on Sanctum of Rall for all of the W3 maps, and then jumped in to do some structured PvP while I waited. Nothing ever popped in two hours which is unusual for that server.

That got me wondering if I would even be notified me while I was in SPvP. Does anyone know?

As a side note: How do you stealth someone else?

Ok, here is some sage advice I read a while back (can’t credit the original author).

Start with all the classes you think you might at all be interested in, and then do a coin flip to eliminate half. Look at the remaining classes, and flip the coin again.

At some point you may begin to realize that you’re “rooting” for one specific class, and that you really don’t want that one to be eliminated. That is the class you should start with.

If that never happens, then just whittle your way down until you’re left with one standing. You’ll have fun with that class no matter what because each class can do a little bit of everything in GW2.

Yeah I play a thief and I target very similar to this. I don’t think there is any other magic bullet out there.

If there are a group of people and I need the guy in the middle, I guess I would lay down AoE to break them up a bit or soak them all equivalently.

If I’m having trouble tab targeting to someone, I will usually dodge roll and use that time to click on them manually, and then resume the strafing.

I was recently in Fireheart Rise, too. It was probably the least active zone I’d been in so far. Not that it was empty, I seen quite a few people just no where near the “zergfest” that the lower level areas were. Also I didn’t like the area very much; it reminded me of Ascalon from GW1 after pre-searing, with everything burnt and broken and it’s a bit depressing. I found that the more southern high-level areas (Mount Maelstrom and surrounding areas) are better populated.

Also I would guess a large percentage of players are more casual gamers and probably aren’t up to such a high level yet.

Yeah, just to give perspective, I’ve been playing most every day since launch but I’m level 22. I do alot of WvW, and general dinking around and the lower areas are still all very populated.

Soon we’ll be up there with you guys though, and it will probably even out some.

There were a couple of bugged quests in the Level 14 range for Norns where your allies die much too quickly, or the NPC’s are dealing far too high DPS. Don’t beat yourself up over this.

To get around this, you can invite other players into your personal story, or they can invite you. Just ask around in /map chat, or look for players who seem to be heading into that instance and ask to join. Once you’ve completed a personal story instance in a group, each player who needs to complete it will be given an option to mark the quest as done for themselves, so you only need to run it once.

Don’t be afraid to go old school and ask around for help with this instance. Because they are bugged, lots of people are needing to do them.

Heh. This is the quest I was stuck on… so it’s bugged? That explains a lot. those npc “hellpers” dropped like flies.

Yeah, there are two back to back. I know one is called, “Rumors of trouble” and the other is, “Minotaur Rampant” I believe.

Once you’ve completed those two, the next missions get much easier.

The WvW map is made up of 4 instances. Three “borderlands” and the “Eternal Battlegrounds” in the center. You cannot travel between them aside from queuing up.

I’m not sure if you can queue W3 from SPvP.

Edit: The easiest way to get in to WvW from an Overflow is to open your Hero Panel (H), and go to your PvP icon, and Go to the Mists. This automatically pulls you out of overflow, and puts you on your correct server. From there you can open your WvW panel (B), and click the dropdown menu at the very top of the screen to queue for the different maps.

There are definitely some servers that have much lighter queues than others. A recent example was on Northern Shiverpeaks where a large Alliance was unable to queue in WvW for an entire night, and caused them to leave that server, for a lower population server altogether.

I am on Sanctum of Rall, and we have very light to moderate queues on any given night, especially during prime time for Australia, where we could really use some help.

I’ve heard that Borliss Pass, Anvil Rock, Devona’s Rest and Kaineng are all very light to no WvW queue’s at the moment, but be aware that this also means there might not be a lot of focus on WvW either.

I have also found the Personal Story Quests to be a real challenge.
I spent two days LFG to simply try to progress this interesting story,
I don’t think I have left one instance with my clothes remaining on my
body and they are just sooo frustrating. They have become ‘almost’ a
game ruining experience as I now no longer care what is happening in
the world of GW2 as I really cant face another horrible gaming experience
that offers no personal reward except frustration and disapointment.

I would have thought that of all the elements of the game, the personal
story would have been the most enjoyable as it should be able to be
completed solo (after all, t is MY story), without losing all your hard earned
silver paying for
repairs and of course, its main purpose (or so I would have thought) allowing
the player to follow the through line story of world events. However, I now
really have no idea what is happening and what the story is about.

I do like a challenge and I do like to have to work at something in order to
feel that satisfying sense of acheivement, however It would be nice to at
least stand a bit of a chance against mobs without fighting naked all the time.

I don’t think personal story quests are intended to be quite this difficult, and it’s likely the quest is actually just bugged at the moment. You should fill out a bug report on it, and then just take a break for a bit, if you can’t find 1 or 2 people to help complete it.

It will likely be fixed in the near future, and you can come back to it then, and since you get downleveled, it should still be fun later on.

As a PSA, if you’re using a credit card don’t ever click the “purchase now” or “complete transaction” buttons more than once, or you will likely be charged multiple times once the lag is sorted out.
