This game originally had no levels. Play testers expressed confusion as to where they where supposed to go and what they where supposed to do. Levels where added to alleviate that problem.

Make MF an inherent stat based off the quality of the gear you are wearing, make MF split among the group, or both.
- Mike Obrien
All this game needs is more interesting boss mechanics. Currently every fight is made easier by increasing dps output. If they designed fights that where made easier by group support instead of raw damage then group support would be more rewarding than it is now.

I would like to direct your attention to this gem of a thread.

Gambling is illegal in many areas is the general reasoning behind games not having things like lotteries.

They could just make all dungeon tokens one token, or preferably a currency. Then you could buy the various dungeon armors with currency earned by doing any of the dungeons. Farm AC for fractal backpacks or farm fractals for Arah gear etc.

Agreed. Endorsed. Love it!
- Mike Obrien
Not a bad idea. They did similar story telling in GW1 with the purchasable mission packs.
- Mike Obrien
thought this was a casual game where people could i dunno have a job and still partake in the game’s glory not the left overs LOL
I think you are talking about a different game. Mike O’Brien clearly stated that they don’t make grindy games and you are clearly describing a grind.

Banners don’t have F1 skills because the op in this thread hasn’t been made a dev yet.
- Mike Obrien
Banners: Powerful but clunky and requires you to babysit them. They get left behind, lost, stolen. You waste time picking up and dropping them constantly.
My (reposted) suggestion?
Have them work using a toggle on/off system, somewhat like engineer toolkits. When toggled on, the banner is displayed on your characters back, and provides its passive bonuses to allies within range. Your #1-5 remain unchanged however, instead the F3 and F4 buttons become available. F3 is Inspire (functioning exactly like it is now, banner #3), and F4 is the banner specific skill (currently banner #2). Only one banner may be active at a time, and toggling off/swapping banners will incur a 30 second cooldown. Banners can no longer be dropped, lost, stolen, etc.For the elite banner, which functions slightly differently…
F4: Nearby downed allies immediately rally, CT 2, CD 240, Uses Ground Targeting.
Please please please please please please please please please please please pretty please with sugar on top I’ll mow the lawn and take out the trash and do the dishes for a week please Arena.net please please please please.
In all serious banners are boring and need to be changed.
- Mike Obrien
Any class can be played with a passive signet build. Probably the easiest would be a warrior, guardian, or ranger. While you miss out on interesting utilities you can still function effectivly using only your weapon skills.

Ascended gear is stupid and should never have been added. I agree however that this game’s pve is very easy and the game could certainly use some difficulty increases. I imagine that increases the complexity of the AI would do wonders for difficulty. Mobs in GW1 fought as groups and packs where designed to compliment each others abilities. GW2 is designed to be solo friendly and thats okay but the monsters are so bland. Most simply auto attack and often fail at doing even that. We need more abilities and a more aggressive AI that isn’t so easily foiled. A perfect example is GW1 mob AI would cause mobs to run out of aoe. In GW2 mobs just stand in aoe.
- Mike Obrien
There is no pve content in this game that could be considered difficult. If you are dieing to mobs in the open world then you need to take a moment to ponder your gear choices, your spec, and your play style.
- Mike Obrien
I just wish I had a personal dps meter so I could guage my own damage dealing capabilities. I also don’t think that damage meters would have any significant impact on any part of the game. This game doesn’t have several hour long raids with bosses who have enrage timers. The one groups who might be picky about performance are also the groups who require you to link gear and spec in the first place.

I would bring the Gods back. Guild Wars 1 was a very mysterious and mystical game with all kinds of otherworldly happenings that made it interesting. Guild Wars 2 just feels less mysterious. Bring the Gods back and create more areas in the mists.

This happens to me every time I teleport to any zone in the game, including heart of the mists. The camera remains stuck at the waypoint and while I can move around and interact with things I can’t see what’s going on because my camera is sitting at the waypoint.

Some fun ideas in here, we’re also actively discussing ways on how we’d best like to alleviate having to make players choose between having better stats, or using magic find. It’s not a choice that’s great for game play and there isn’t really anything that fun about it, even more so when group composition is taken into account. Ideally we’d also like to keep the ability to slowly build your magic find over time, but doing this at the cost of using better stats isn’t the right way to do that.
No ETA on any changes here, just want to point out we agree there is an issue here that goes against what we want Gw2 to be, and is something we want to address.
They are aware that magic find isn’t working well. I heard a rumor that magic find might be an inherent stat based off the rarity of the piece of gear you where wearing which would be okay with me. Doesn’t take up stat allocation and rewards you for having shiny gear with more shiny gear.

Mini pets should either have their own UI similar to what Blizzard has done or there should be an equipment slot on your character screen in which you can equip a minipet and have that pet follow you around.

The motd needs work for sure. I really like the idea of a mass guild mail system for alerting members of upcoming events. A special commander tag for guild leaders that only members of the guild can see would be great as well.
- Mike Obrien
I like the idea of adding more uses for endurance. Sprinting in particular seems like a good addition.

This feature really needs some love and attention. It’s silly that you can’t edit the message without rewriting everything that was in it previously.

Please never add mounts to this game.

Guild Wars 1 has raids, events like Jormag could be considered raids. I don’t see why they can’t implement raids in this game. A raid being defined as any event that requires more than one group. I would love to see some 10 man dungeons or more world events like Jormag.
- Mike Obrien
Guild Wars 1 cutscenes are good, please continue to use this style of story telling from now on.
- Mike Obrien
The daily achievments really are a grind and I don’t like that I have to log in everyday and do a specific set of tasks in order to get tokens to buy gear with better stats. This entire idea seems to go against the idea that this game was built on. Guild Wars 2 wasn’t supposed to be a grindy game and yet here we are grinding dailies everyday so we can afford an item with better stats once a month.
- Mike Obrien
The forum moderators probably won’t take kindly to your topic. That is certainly one way to allocate resources from infraction spamming moderators to useful programmers.
- Mike Obrien
So many small things that need worked on. I hope these ideas of yours and many others get patched in sooner than later.
- Mike Obrien
Couple things first. Yes I know people can solo champions, but not everyone is that good and sometimes the layout of the area makes it impossible. No i’m not asking for the game to be made easier, I just want to be able to actually complete these event chains.
This is a problem that is most often encountered in low populated areas, especially in parts of the zone that are rarely traveled. For example the blood ooze event in Mole’s Head in Bloodtide Coast. The champion spawns in a room full of respawning oozes which make it impossible for me to solo event with the kind help of the risen forces. I would love to see these kind of events finish and see what events occur after them. There are never people around to do them however.
- Mike Obrien
I can attest that the Save the merchants doesn’t work on Sea or Sorrows, nor does the Defend Captain Penzan event either.
- Mike Obrien
I am also missing my pumpkin carving achievement which is leaving an ugly splotch on my otherwise maxed out event section.

Grinding for a month for 1 piece of the best gear in game. I have no words to express how very much I wish EVERY game was this “difficult” in this aspect.
I have great appreciation for the epic feeling of working toward something for a long time and finally achieving it. The problem with your ideology is that it doesn’t fit in this game. Guild Wars 1 was never about getting better gear, the stats where all the same. It was about getting cooler looking gear and ascended gear is better. Ascended gear has higher stats which gives an advantage to players who where hardcore enough to get it. I’m not saying grind is bad, I enjoyed my 6 years in World of Warcraft. I’m just saying that grind wasn’t intended to be a part of this game.
“Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games.”
- Mike Obrien
- Mike Obrien
One topic that seems to be getting overlooked is the time investment to get these laurels and by extension ascended gear. A casual player will want to log in and play whatever aspect of the game he or she wants. A casual player doesn’t want to be faced with a chore that has to be completed every day. Another topic that keeps getting brought up is that casuals don’t need ascended gear. This is a terrible argument because everyone deserves to have top tier gear in this game. One of the design philosophies was that players would not need to endlessly grind to get the best gear. With the current implementation of the laurels it takes a month to get each item. That is certainly a grind and is made worse by requiring daily participation. A simple change would be to make ascended gear craftable thus removing the chore associated with the daily.
- Mike Obrien
I don’t like the current implemation of the daily achievment and laurels. Guild Wars 2 was a game that I didn’t feel like I had to log into every day. I could play when I wanted for as little or as long as I wanted. Now I feel required to log in every day to finish the daily achievment. Every day that I miss the achievment I miss out on a laurel which puts me one day farther from top stat gear. I often only have a limited amount of time in the day to play video games and it’s upsetting that in this “grindless game” I find myself grinding a daily every single day in order to keep up with gear in this game where “you dont have to grind for gear”. If Arena.net wants to implement currency like laurels they should learn from Blizzards implementation of the model. Blizzard gives you the entire week to grind your 7 days worth of dungeon points. You can do it all in one day or spread it out as you see fit. I just don’t want to be forced to log in every day to grind for top stat gear in my grindless mmo where you don’t have to grind for gear.

I like your idea. I had originally hoped that they would add multiple attacks that could be placed into each slot. Your idea sounds a lot like what Diablo 3 did with skill runes which also would be cool. Diversity like this would add fun without upsetting balance too much.

And secondly vitality is better for damage mitigation.
No… no it isn’t. Vitality actually doesn’t do ANYTHING for damage mitigation. Increasing your HP pool doesn’t “mitigate” anything. But even comparing them for what they are, Toughness is overwhelmingly the better defensive stat.
Effective hp is a combination of total health pool, damage reduction, and the damage and healing you are receiving which equate to how long you will live. So yes hp pool is mitigation because it’s mitigating against death.

Tbh m8 guards are naf nobody should be able to solo them the whole point of upgrading a camp with guards and escorts for dolyaks is to make it difficult and to encourage players to organise not solo or 2 man objectives. I can solo sentries and dolyak escorts, a bit more survivability would be a good thing.
Considering I can solo fully upgraded supply camps even when the NPC has the buff, yay condition damage, guards could certainly use a buff. Sentries should be a challenge 1v1, currently they are free loot. Supply camps should not be solo’able, currently they are. Even towers can be solo’d if you have the patience to solo the door and no one comes to stop you. NPC’s need more abilities to deal with players such as roots, stuns, and snares. They should be a challenge, not free loot.
- Mike Obrien
They just need to change the costs/usefulness of some of the upgrades.
Every upgrade should be something we’re happy to see. No upgrade should be considered to be a “spy/troll upgrade”.
Like:
- Hire Services also adds 4 Zealots to each gate.
- Hire Siege Merchant also drops a catapult behind each gate which is rebuildable (like oil and cannons)
- Extra Guards should be a lot more archers on the walls.
Currently a lot of the upgrades just suck and the only reason to get them is extra supply storage during peacetime. Most of them aren’t worth the expense.
I agree that every upgrade should be something that is useful and that everyone would want to have. It makes no sense to have upgrades that would be considered useless or a waste of resources.

Maybe try bringing a stunbreaker and learning to dodgeroll? I applaud people who figure out good PvE items for WvW, it brings some nice variety.
You applaud them until it happens to you. Unless you enjoy losing control of your character and watching as an item clearly not intended for pvp is used to kill you while you have no ability to fight back.

Each piece of gear has a primary stat socket and 2 secondary stat sockets. Primary and secondary gems exist of every stat. Pick and choose what you want, the only rule being you can’t use a primary and secondary jewel of the same stat.

I can’t wait for them to implement duels, I’m sure it won’t take them very long at all! What a fun idea to be able to battle your friends using this balanced system they created in the heart of the mists.
