What is it exactly that our non-thief brethren want?

For two of you not to be able to do this:

I’ll edit this for now out of fairness for not having time to watch the whole video. I will say the group they destroyed at the beginning deserved what they got for being stupid terrible players. No AOE at all the whole time on top of their shadow refuge, stopping and turning around to PVE a veteran mob while 2 enemies go untouched the entire time. And people are mad about stealth, you should be mad for ignorant people whining about how they can’t overcome themselves in PvP, and the reason is your class is probably next on the whine list.

I don’t really understand what you mean by ‘nobody can do anything about it’. If by that you mean some e-moron can run up and faceroll their keyboard while you stand there doing a death blow then I suppose you’re right. Its awesome though when their team runs up and tries to rez without giving any though to, I don’t know, trying to do an AOE attack near the body. If the thief is at full health and they follow through with the attack, it isn’t any different than if another class stands in plain sight and does it. Frankly, these threads are getting out of hand. Anet can’t correct human stupidity, and 90% of these complaints boil right down to bad players wanting to continue to be terrible while still ‘doing well’. And OP, that’s not directed at you, just making a generality.

Is anyone else scared of PvP?

I have never played on a pve server in any game that had pvp servers as a choice. Pve is predictable and therefore not fun for me. When i square up against people in pvp I have no idea what I am about to experience, and that makes pvp glorious. IMO.

You and I have a very similar outlook on PvP. The changing circumstances and the unpredictable nature of human beings makes it so much more interesting to me than PvE content, and I say this as a pretty below average PvP’er that probably loses more than I win. lol I remember the first time I did PvP in any game was Star Wars Galaxies. I remember my hands sweating and my heart racing the whole time, it was awesome! All these years later there are still times I get that way.

Ok so I have been seeing posts on this for a while now and I have to ask.

How is this added tier to bridge the time acquisition gap between exotics and legendaries a gear grind or a treadmill?

its only a gear grind if it takes an insane amount of time to get and is required for content. From whats been shown Fractals will only require the gear to survive staying in a really long time not required to enter or even to see and experience the content inside.

And its only a treadmill if they continue to add tiers which they have made it clear they have no intention of doing. So why then is there such a fuss.

P.S. Before anyone tells me I don’t understand GW I was a GW player since launch and I hate gear grind but I don’t see this being a gear grind.

Honestly, you bring up a good question here about what all the fuss is about. I can’t speak for everyone but I’ve read a bunch of the posts from players about this issue. I honestly believe that the undercurrent in a lot of this ire about what Anet is doing boils down to players not trusting them when they say they won’t do it in the future. From my personal stand point, I see after the Halloween event and some of the sleazy way in which that was marketed on this website and then backpedaled later on that something is rotten in Denmark. I think it’s possible a lot of former GW1 players want to trust Anet, but something in the back of their minds says not to.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Starhawk.2958

Starhawk.2958

“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.”

I was a little more relieved after reading Chris’ post about how this gear is going to be made available. Unfortunately a lot of that post is ‘dev’ speak and doesn’t mean much other than giving huge generalities. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.”

First off, making this type of gear available to those of us who enjoy PvP and play the game for that ‘in time’ probably means they realize now that some of us don’t have any desire to dungeon grind for gear. Okay, well what does ‘in time’ mean? Because to me that says when you get around to adding it in as a reward for badges or whatever. The real sticking point for me is going to be 1. How long it takes them to get Ascended gear (or similar items) into the gear progression for WvW and other PvP formats and 2. How much they cost.

I can see this taking a good long time because of how poorly they have supported this game post launch. They haven’t fixed much of anything in this game for weeks, especially when it comes to class bugs. What I see potentially happening is when these items are available for pvpers they end up costing thousands of badges per item and will require months and months of time and effort per piece. We’ll see if Grind Wars is what this game becomes. /shrug

How do you 1v1 a condition/evasion thief

in Warrior

Posted by: Starhawk.2958

Starhawk.2958

I play both a warrior and a thief at 80 in primarily WvW and it saddens me how often I tear through poorly played warriors as a condition thief. My advice would be 2 fold.

1. Make a low level thief and go spend some time in the mists goofing around with the ‘popular’ condition thief builds. Get a sense for how much initiative their skills cost, how their stealth movement speed works. If you have no idea about those 2 items, you’re probably going to have a tough time. Here’s a small idea: Using C/D generally takes up half of a thief’s initiative depending on their spec. It also has a brutally short range, meaning they have to be almost on top of you to get it to hit.

2. If your spec is built for burst damage with no consideration for survivability and tactical fighting, you are going to lose against condition thieves a lot. It isn’t because their class is broken, it’s because you have a spec that does great damage but is easy to counter.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Starhawk.2958

Starhawk.2958

I don’t mind being the sidekick and losing the glory to Trahearne too much, but what I would really love is if the devs re-wrote the ending and basically ‘offed’ Trahearne in such a manner that your character is forced to take over.

By ‘offed’ I mean, killed or possibly turns out to be a traitor or something. Anything. Just a twist that leaves the character/underdog coming up trumps in the last chapter, forced to make tough decisions etc etc

Bit more meat on the bone for the storyline.

Agreed, I think it would be awesome if the dragon set him on fire with a flame blast and he ran around the forest screaming for someone to put him out, there by setting the entire forest on fire and wiping out the Sylvari as a race. =p

Losing track of cursor + terrible tab targeting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Starhawk.2958

Starhawk.2958

I’ve been thinking this but have never posted anything about it on the forums so I’ll just put it here. The TAB targeting in this game is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Why it doesn’t cycle from nearest to farthest intuitively I don’t understand. It’s an area that they need to do some work but honestly, with the way the issues in this game are being handled I don’t see it getting love for a long long time. In larger battles, especially in WvW and whatnot, I would also love an option to skip pets from the tab target options, thus making it to where I need to click them to target. (that’s just a personal thing though)

Why Orr brings out the worst in the "community"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Starhawk.2958

Starhawk.2958

Orr brings out the worst, because it’s a constant source of annoyance. Annoyed people are bitter and cranky.
Once players get used to Orr, the difficulty (if they found it difficult) is gone; but the annoyance level stays.

Put people in a hot room with little room to move, they get cranky and on edge. Put people in a tightly packed store with things and others bumping into them constantly, they get annoyed.
This is human nature; and Orr pushes those buttons.

At least, that’s how I see it.

This and a million times over this. I think the more time people spend in Orr the more annoying the place becomes. My first few times through it I actually enjoyed the ‘challenge’ of it. However, the longer I’ve been there the more it makes me want to vomit at how the zone is designed from layout to NPC behavior. It’s one of the reasons I hated the open world in SW:TOR. Anyway, my biggest pet peeve there is when I kill a mob near a resource node and some idiot trains 2 or 3 mobs into my damage so I get aggro, farms the node and then runs off. kitten those people.

I have to agree that so far the event has been pretty cool with the effort they’ve put in with the impact the event has had on places like Lion’s Arch and how the area changed. The Clock Tower and some of the events have been really good too. Since this is their first event in GW2 I’ll give em a break with some of the glitches and bugs, hopefully will help the next event to be more polished/refined. Anyway, I’ve still enjoyed it.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Starhawk.2958

Over the past week about half of the bots I had been keeping track of have become continuously offline (I block before I report so I report more easily and keep tabs). The problem is that I was reporting every day for up to two weeks before I saw any change.

I’ve been doing the same only putting them on my friends list and then watching to see if their little green light goes out. As I’ve mentioned in other similar threads, they are not doing anywhere near enough to curb the problem, and the longer they fumble the ball the harder it’s going to get. NCSoft and Anet have a track record with this sort of thing long before GW2 came out, and nothing they are doing here at this moment indicates that they are going to improve on that record.

Clock Tower--My FUN 5 hour experience

Starhawk.2958

I can not believe all the rage about this clock tower. Honestly. I had so much fun talking with others after each trial, and how we suck, or how awesome we did, or how we felt we were getting worse. We were picking on the Norn for being huge and in the way, they were calling us shorties, we were dancing, we were rooting other people on.

Maybe I just got lucky ankittenep getting into good groups, but this was so much fun!! I plan on doing it again and again just for the social aspect of it. This is by far the best experience I’ve had for the Halloween event. Thank you so much Anet.

Please, don’t listen to the complainers. It does take a long time to complete, but so does grinding and dungeons (which are a lot less fun) and a lot of practice to complete this OPTIONAL puzzle but that’s what makes it fun. I was happy to have spent my night doing this rather than finishing it within an hour and running off to grind or find something else to do.

Absolutely agree, 90% of the fun and wanting to keep trying was enjoying the laughing and raging of my fellow players. Then getting excited for folks when they finally got it. I had to take many smoke/rage breaks but it was fun none the less. Bravo Anet

My only beef with what they did was including the mystery tonics in the recipe because some people (myself included) realize those have absolutely no value and got rid of them when we opened our BLC’s at the start of the event. Also, a dev has said you only need to report at least one, they will then check nearby potential bots as well. So report as many as you can but don’t worry if you miss any, they will still be dealt with.

This would have been easily fixed by 1 GM taking about 20 minutes of time to log in and mass ban these people. It would have been nice to see Anet take a stance on this in a similar manner to Trion did with Rift but unfortunately that isn’t how they’ve chosen to handle it. It’s even more disgusting when you see this type of stuff in WvW where slots are limited and they still do nothing. Unfortunate but honestly this is the norm.

I honestly don’t know how anyone is coming away surprised at this. Seriously, Anet is as greedy as any other gaming company out there, what the hell makes you think otherwise? This was a cash grab plain and simple and if you didn’t see it as much, shame on YOU. The fact they spent their development time on implementing something that’s real purpose is to make money, rather than improving the game for the long haul (i.e. making real improvements to WvW and other areas) should tell you where the game is headed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this game has not been well developed post launch.

You didn’t read the patch notes much, didya?

Actually I read them quite thoroughly, did you? Or did you just see a long list of stuff and say, ‘wow, this is a big and significant patch!’ They dumped a bunch of content into the game that is by and large temporary and made little headway into fixing the 100’s of known and reported issues with the classes. WvW got a nice exploit fix but the core issues with that were untouched. My point still stands, fluff and no substance. Go back and reread before you open your hole.

These missions would be a ton more fun if they weren’t scaled in such a way as to assume the NPC’s are useful in any way. It seems like they balanced the missions around the NPC help you’re given in each, and then forgot to make them useful at all. Ol’ Twiggy is a good example. Most of the time the idiot stands there doing no damage and holds no aggro so you end up fighting all of the mobs yourself.

They don’t do anything about botting anyway so not sure what you’re worried about. Also, no this isn’t a bot situation unless you are using an external program to keep you in the game, such as a program to macro putting down your turrets and activating skills. Then by technical definition you are botting, though it won’t matter. lol

I’ve mentioned this on several occasions prior to this post, that orbs should be removed from the game. Unfortunately Anet is starting to show just how poor of a development team they are. Allowing blatant hacking to continue to go on without doing anything for weeks on end is inexcusable. Add in the fact that they are taking absolutely no proactive steps to remove the pve botters in the WvW zones so that they can be enjoyed by the people who are actually playing the game and you can see how badly they’ve failed as a development team.
