Yes they are ruining the economy and in a way “exploit” this event. Here I use “exploit” very loosely. ArenaNet really can’t ban people for “failing” events can they?
I am a little bit disappointed that human tier 3 heavy gauntlet only allows 2 dyeable parts (one of which is basically hidden piece of strapping) and the boots only color dye, considering that it costs 12g each piece.
The gloves for example has the wings part and the arm part, each looks like it could stand alone with its own dye. Hence it should allows 3 dyeable parts (instead of 2)
Similarly the boots has the wings part, the main shinguard part and the lower feet part, each seems to be able to has its own dye.
I would like to suggest to make it such expensive armor has more dyeable parts.
Thanks
Once a player has exotic gear, map completion and a legendary what is there to do? Honestly, we can’t figure it out.
Let me ask you an honest question. By the same token, when you get max gear in WoW what is there to do? Honestly, I can’t figure it out. WoW has no gear progression either.
I have a personal guild I use just for extra bank storage. My GL knows this but just about every time I represent my personal guild to shuffle bank items around I get a pm within 15 secs “rep plz” – It is annoying, but I like my guild so I’m not leaving. I just wish I’d get more than 15 secs before I get a pm. Not like I’m going to garner any rep pts by playing banker.
Hit N and appear as offline before playing with your personal guild. A friend of mine likes doing guild bounties with my guild, but his other guild requires 100% rep, so he just appears offline whenever he does anything with my guild and doesn’t rep them.
Our guild has 100% rep rule and noted to the recruit upfront. Also we are clearly aware of this “invisible” – non representing issue. Some of our officers usually track this information. If you are “offline” and your location changes, we know.
If you sign a contract (whether simply say “ok” or actually sign your name it doesn’t matter), you are expected to honor it. In real life, most are enforceable by laws so most people are hesitant to break. Here in GW2, it is not so guilds have all the right kick those that are not following the term of the contract.
If you are not ok with 100% rep rule, simply don’t join. Guilds don’t need leechers who are simply their for whatever benefit the guilds offer and toss them asides when they don’t need it. Find a guild that allow that and join them.
There is a mount in this game. It’s the broom. You can buy it in the gemstore. You can mount on it and ride it.
@Lil: Did you contact support to get your account restored?
I find your attempt to troll really funny.
FateOmega: Create an original name that is not LIKELY to be taken (desired by others).
Dragon: The only names that are not desired by others are gibberish. [If the name is not gibberish, there exists at least one other person playing Guild Wars 2 who would desire that name.]
Though not true, but hard to prove otherwise. You seem to imply (and you may correct my implication), that that someone (who desires your names) would go out of his way to hire a hacker to hack your account then take your names. Which is extremely unlikely but hard to prove false otherwise, but you can’t prove true either.
I find this kind of argument not helpful to the discussion and bring negativity to the thread. So please, before posting, make sure that your information is correct and useful.
Also, Dragon, your last argument is what we call a strawman. Here is why, and I paraphrase
FateOmega: A player took your name after your account got hacked. It isn’t fair for them to change their name
Dragon: [You think it’s ok for someone to pay a hacker to hack my account and take my name] implies that [the player who took your name must have hired a hacker to hack your account], which, is totally false. There are several occasion when the person who took a hacked account’s characters’ name has no direct relation to the hacker. Even if there is the burden of proof lies on you, people are “innocent” before proven guilty.
Such strawman argument does not help the discussion.
If I remember correctly, in Guild Wars 1, if your account got hacked and someone else took your name and then your account was restored, the person who took the name has to change the name. I believe ANet will do the same in Guild Wars 2.
I don’t understand either. Which quest is CallMeWatrous talking about? Defending Shaemor?
If it’s the look of the karma armor you want, you can always use a fine transmutation stone to transmute the karma armor to a common (white) armor piece. It will become account bound. You can then transfer it to your other character. If it’s the stat of the karma armor you want, there is nothing you can do.
GW2 has finite combinations of characteristics for every single item in the game.
Guild Wars 2 is not the only game that has finite combinations of characteristics. In fact every set of items in every game that has finite stats has finite combinations since finite union of finite sets is finite. Every game system has finitely many statistics in finite set of numbers.
I can be absolutely sure that I am buying the “best” level 35 shortbow with the stats I want on it
I’m not so sure about that. The stat you want might not maximize your effectiveness. Is it better to go soldier’s stat on your next piece of equipment or is it better to go for Berserk’s stat on your next piece?
You might have to take partial derivatives of a 6 variables function and set them equal to zero and solve for those variables and even then you might not get the stat that maximize your effectiveness.
Just finished path 3, wiped a few time, very frustrated but finally locked him down. It’s doable but stacking all 5 members on one spot and spam DPS on him is clearly not an intended way to fight. Once you know it, it’s really easy.
The following is my experience with it. When you log in, it would do the following checks
- Has this account contribute more than 50 influence to any guild attendance in the last 24 hours? – If it did then no more characters will give influence to ANY guild
- Is this during attendance check? – if not, then no influence gain, if it is move on.
- Is this character the 1st character on this account logging in today that would contribute influence through attendance check? – if it is, then add 10 influence points
- Is it still attendance check interval? if it is move to next
- Is this the 2nd character on this account logging in today that would contribute influence through attendance check? – if it is, then add 10 influence points.
- Is it still attendance check? if it is move to next.
- Is this the 3rd character on this account logging in today that would contribute influence through attendance check? – if it is, then – has at least one of the previous two characters done any significant actions beside running around (do a quest, check mail, deposit/withdraw money, trading post)? if it is add 10 influence points.
- Is it still attendance check? if it is move to next.
- Is this the 4th character on this account logging into today that would contribute influence through attendance check? – if it is, then – have at least two of the previous 3 characters done any significant actions? – if it is, then – has at least 10 mins passed since the first character was logged in? (most likely won’t happen since attendance check period already expired) – if it is add 10 points
- Most likely attendance check period expires, but if you are lucky
- Is this the 5th character… etc., has at least 15 mins passed since… etc, You see the point.
Or they should just add armor costume slot allow you to wear 2 sets of armors, one for skin, and one for stat. Problem solved.
If you need storage space make 10x personal guilds and invite 9 from other guilds over to help you build the bank and treasure grove, then kick them. To be fair, each one will in turn invite the other 9 over and help build 10x personal guilds, then kick, etc. So in a month you have a 1500 extra inventory space for each of all 10 people.
That is why Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy is ambiguous and not fair to players. Here is an example. I went to a online random fantasy name generator and take 10 random names. Most of them look like legit random fantasy name. At a closer inspection, nothing, nothing can be used under Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy. Here
Keus - Reference to a real person named Peter Keus. I have no idea who this is, but he is a real person. This name is bannable.
Nakydy - This name contains the phrase “Nak” which is an abbreviation for Northern Dynastyc Minerals company. This name is bannable.
Riloryn - “Loryn” refers to Loryn Lopes, a real person. Bannable.
Garomash - “Aromash” is a football player. This name is bannable.
Er’urn - “Urn” – urncompany.com is a registered domain name of a company that makes urns. This name is bannable.
Therkine - “Erkin” refers to Erkin Koray a Turkish musician. This name is bannable.
Eldeldlye - “Elde” is a name of a dutch college, obviously trademarked. This name is bannable.
Notanis - “ota” is an abbreviation for Orthopaedic Trauma Association. This name is bannable.
Elmineos - “mineos” – refers to “MineOS” which is an operating system for Minecraft. There is also a pizza restaurant named “Mineo’s Pizza House”. This name is bannable.
Tanrd - “Tan” is a book publisher. This name is bannable.
Pretty much every name that is even comprehensible out there refers to some copyrighted/trademarked things that somewhere, someone already done. So should ArenaNet ban every comprehensible names which is basically 99.99% of the player base?
Even a name that is basically gibberish like this “Kglgntske” (contains “gnt” which is a Brazillian satellite tv channel) is bannable.
ArenaNet added their right to removed “copyrighted” names in EULA to protect itself from meaningless lawsuits from other companies. But there is no such thing as a copy righted name nor title. Here is the link to the official US government website:
http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ34.pdf
What one might argue is that “Soylent Green” is a trademark right of whoever produced that movie, and sure it is. But 1. “Soylentt Green” is different. The moment you mispell 1 character it is no longer the same, 2. Even if the player has used the word “Soylent Green” for his character, this is different from Soylent Green the movie. Since neither the player nor ArenaNet is “selling” this “Soylent Green” the character. So they are not the same thing, in which case, trademark law doesn’t apply.
What ArenaNet should do is stand up and protect its players from ridiculous issues as this instead of hurting them.
(edited by Stars.2179)
I don’t think there is anything wrong with the name. Banning it for “copyright” issues is ridiculous for several reasons.
1. “Soylentt Green” is different from “Soylent Green”
2. Names are not copyright. If you use a name of a video game character, it is ok. The characters themselves are copyrighted, not the name.
If that’s not the case, they should ban every “John”, “David”, “Mark”, “Juliet”, etc to name a few, because I surely can find a movie somewhere that has characters of these names.
3. Sure “Soylentt Green” is a little close to “Soylent Green” and one might add the “trademark right” argument. But how close is close? Should “Soybean Green” be banned? Should “Gibsons” be banned? “Gibsons” and “Simpsons” are very close.
For examples: Jinx – “Jynx” the Pokemon.
Michael – there is a movie named “Michael” made in 1996? to name a few…
But again, my point is that names are not copyrighted. I’m pretty sure there is a court ruling on that in the US.

@Ugly Playboy Model.1239 – Although Playboy itself is not a pornographic term, no matter how you argue it, it is a clear reference to a pornographic magazine and website.
