Bonus damage multiplier

I would like to know if bonus damage multipliers stack additive or multiplicative.

I am not aware of any post that concern this and guildwars 2 wiki do not have any information on that either.

For example: if you have the guardian trait: [Powerful Blades], it grants increase in sword damage by 10%. If you have Superior Sigil of Force, it grants another 5%. If you have Superior Rune of Strength (6), it grants another +7% under might. If you have [Power of the Virtuous], it grants another on average +3% for 3 boons.

The question is would the total be: 10% + 5% + 7% + 3% = 25% increase (additive), in which case the bonus damage multiplier would be 1.25?

Or would it be the case 1.1 × 1.05 × 1.07 x 1.03 = 1.272925 which would be effectively a 27% damage increase?

Good idea in theory, difficult to implement and test in a software perspective. It requires massive change to engine side program. So it won’t happen or maybe you can wait another 10 years or so for GW3 and they “might” do it.

Bank Full. Solution?

Well, each character can hold up to 8 bag slots x 20 items per bag = 160 item slots.

There are 17 different prefixes in the game, 16 of which has all equipment except the back piece only has 6 different combination (exotic).

Each character has 6 armor slots, average 4 weapons, 5 trinket slot and 1 back piece slots. Totaling about 15 slots x 16 prefixes = 240 items. Plus the 6 possible back pieces = 246 different items. Minus the currently equipped set 246 – 16 = 230.

He said he has 4 characters and 12 bank tabs. Each bank tab is 30 slots. If he dedicate 3 tabs (90 slots) per character. Each character can have up to 160 slots from bags . That’s 160+90 = 250 slots per character. And there is STILL 20 slots to spare if he is truly “max out” as he claimed.

Even if my estimate is a little off, if he is truly maxed out he still has about 80 extra slots.

The OP either has
1. Has extraneous stuffs that are not soul bound that we don’t know about and he’s not saying it.
2. Has repeated sets (like 3 berserker sets? with different runes)
3. Organization problem

About the hoarding here are some pictures: :P There were a post that I made before ascended armor/weapon crafting came out. I one of the pic. This is the current

For example: now, my home server is Blackgate, I guest so Sanctum of Rall, I still only Black Gate’s guild bank. I guest to Tarnished Coast, I can only access Black Gate’s bank. I guest to Jade Quarry, I can still ONLY access Black Gate’s bank.

After April 15, home home server is still Blackgate, doesn’t matter which megaserver I’m on, I can STILL ONLY access Blackgate Bank.

Just join a bigger guild. If you’re under agreement, the other guild leader will also make your leader part of their leadership.

The point of this is to make small guilds want to merge together, and not get ripped off or instantly kicked, this system will help alot for all small guilds.

UH, “ripped off”? What? If two guilds honestly want to merge, you just have everyone join the other one. I don’t see a problem. And if two guilds DON’T want to merge, then you just DON’T merge. Look it’s simple. No need for devs to spend time and resources developing something not necessary.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Urgh let me see, I think it’s my mistake. There are 7 stat choices: Power, Precision, Toughness, Vitality, Ferocity, Healing and Conditional damage.

So it’s not the case that it’s 7*6*5 since for example Power [primary] / Toughness / Vitality should be the same as Power [primary] / Vitality / Toughness. So (7 permute 3) = 7*6*5 = 210 would over count it.

However, Vitality [primary] / Power / Toughness SHOULD be different from Power [primary] / Toughness / Vitality. So (7 choose 3) = 35 would be under count it

My calculation isn’t correct either. Here should be the correct calculation
There are 7 choices for primary. Out of the remaining 6 stat we choose 2 for minor. And there’s celestial. So the answer should be 7 * (6 choose 2) + 1 = 7 * 15 + 1 = 105 + 1 = 106 different combinations.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Anyway my point is not that Ferocity is never useful as a major stat. You may find use of it in certain combination to achieve the stat you want BUT to put Ferocity as a major AND power as a minor in one piece is utterly ridiculous.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Yeah according to these thresholds ferocity will outdo power in usefulness, but when you actually achieve this kind of stat (if it is even achievable at all), switching out a piece of power for ferocity would actually decrease the damage. Note that it is NOT simply adding one extra point of ferocity instead of power, but rather increase in ferocity and decrease in power.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Also earlier John Peter seems to suggest that “protips: ferocity as a major stat”, I completely disagree. Here’s the “rough” math to back up the argument that ferocity is NEVER better than power as of the current meta.

Expected Damage = Power * (1- crit chance%) + Power * crit chance * (1.5+ Ferocity / 1500)

For the sake of simplicity in ferocity FAVOR, we shall assume crit chance to be 100 % = 1, thus

Expected Damage = Power * (1.5 + Ferocity / 1500)

(Yes there are weapon coefficient and target armor but they will be constant as per case the expect damage value with scale with these, so they can be ignored in maximizing the damage)

Now power is divided into different components with 916 damage as base, we’ll let P be the amount of extra power added and F be extra ferocity (from both equipment and traits) so that

Expected Damage = (916 + P)(1.5 + F / 1500)

To maximize Expected Damage with the constraint P + F = A where A is a constant, we get

the maximum damage is achieved at the point P = (1334 + A) / 2
(differentiate, set equal to zero and solve it’s a basic calculus problem)

where A is the resource pool to share between P and F

Now, between trait, there are potentially 600 points. Equipment: 1157 stat points from major and infusions, 745+745 from minor totally 600+1157+745+745 = 3247
which implies the damage maximize at the point P = (1334+3247)/2 = 2290.5

Now if you major everything in Power you get 300 (from trait) + 1157 = 1457. That’s the total extra amount you can put in a major stat. (on the top of the 916).

Since the damage function is upside down parabola when you substitute F = A-P for P, the this point is the maximum possible point, which proves that power as a primary stat will ALWAYS be better than ferocity.

And this is the case where we ASSUMED crit chance is 100%, which when not the case, the situation is even worse for ferocity.

Power [primary] / Precision / Vitality
Power [primary] / Precision / Toughness
Healing [primary] / Toughness / Vitality
Vitality [primary] / Power / Precision
Vitality [primary] / Power / Ferocity

Too many to list.
Again, there are 7 * (7 choose 2) + 1 = 7 * 35 + 1 = 147 + 1 = 148 different stat combo. Though there are certain ones that are not optimal such as

Ferocity [primary] / Power / Toughness
or any that has ferocity as primary is not optimal. One simply should replace it with power. However there are those who would like to try it.

I suggest just make it empty stat and people would just slot in their “major” and two minor stats of choice

Question regarding resource nodes!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

I’ve just saw your video interview on twitch. You commented that the API won’t work anymore since the mega server technology won’t let the API determine which world you’re in therefore cannot determine where the nodes are. That means you have to explore to find the nodes.

My question is
1. Would these nodes stay static? (i.e., map dependent) or
2. Would spawn they spawn as I zone into the map? or
3. Would they spawn as I explore the map? (i.e., there is none at all at the time of zoning, they would spawn slowly as I come next to a “potential” spot?

Imagine a scenario, I play with two accounts on two different computers (one with my left the other with my right hand) simultaneously and they are on the same party.

Would I see a resource node on one computer and NOT on the other computer? Cuz it would be really annoying if that’s the second case.

What if they let us choose the major/minor stat ourselves when the equipment is crafted?

We have guild backpieces that are cape-like. We have many other backpieces we can wear. I dont see what the special deal is with capes.

Capes are longer. For humans, norn, asuran, sylvaris they are fine. But when it comes to charrs, it’s more complicated. You see when Charrs run they run on all four legs so their body basically rotate about 50-80 degrees. For short object, like backpacks, all you do is rotate the object being attached to the back. But for longer objects that are fabric like it’s more complicated. Sure ANET could just make it so it looks like a static plane (no flowing, just a piece of paper) but that’s just lame and they rather do something and do it all the way to perfection than putting in a piece of paper attached to the back and call it a “cape”

Stars.2179

It’s not just the berserker gears are being affected. The entire armor/weapon combos of everyone will be affected by these changes even those without the ferocity stats. Why? Because runes and sigils are being changed. And if ONE of your armor/weapon/trinket piece had “critical damage” in it or if you have any rune or sigil at all, that means the you may no longer be optimal in your set up. You may have to change your entire set to switch to a more optimal set up.

No ArenaNet does not have to compensate anything as dictated by the ToS, true. But it’s just bad business. It’s best to just let all ascended gear change their stat on the flight (out of combat). Or even let all ascended equipment change their stat ONCE when the patch goes live. Just my thought.

It may appear to look as thou this is a qq thread but it’s not my intention,
The devs look like really nice peeps and im sure they are, they just have a nice way about them and i like them, i wonder thou what actually happened with gw2.

Things from the manifesto are quite the opposite, grind for example, i am sure the devs have been asked this before but idk, why the change? what happened? was it necessary? was the manifesto a ideal to strive for but in reality not really possible?

Does anyone have any links to the devs explaining why the game isn’t like the manifesto?

Again this isn’t a qq thread, i guess they had to make these changes but id like to know why.

Legendary weapons have been in the game since launch I think. The grind has always been there from day 1.

There isn’t really much different between ascended and legendaries beyond ascended require a lot less RNG and gold.

Wrong. Ascended is a lot more work than a legendary. Think about it. A legendary is one weapon. Ascended is 6 armor pieces, multiple weapons, and 6 trinkets/back items. It takes a lot of work for those.

Wrong. You compare 14 pieces to 1 piece for bias. One piece of ascended is much easier to obtain than one piece of legendary.

false. it’s a treadmill. and they broke their manifesto. period.

Define your definition of treadmill.

Here is a tautology: “There is either one tier, or more than one tier”. (Here existence of a game with item implies that the number of tiers cannot be less than 1, the smallest natural number)

Is it: “If there is more than ONE item tier at all, then it’s a treadmill”? If that’s the case then every game is treadmill. It’s trivially true, but doesn’t say anything.

If there is only one tier, I would just buy all my stuff from vendor, done. Got the best gear for 10s and put the game away, why bother playing while I can get the best gear in 1 minute?

So again, define your definition of “treadmill”

i don’t care if without dailies or monthly there would be less players online.

You sure don’t, but developers do and they control the game.

that’s not ok: with dailies (or any other grind) you can craft ascended weapons and stuff.

Why not ok? Laurels are so easy to get these days. I’ve been playing on and off, skipping 3 months of summer and I have over 1,000 (one thousand) laurels. I’m not even sure what to use them on.

So your advice is buy gems and trade to gold, isnt gw2 f2p ? or as some have said it’s getting more buy to win, also 60ar isnt enough for 50 fracts.

No, I’m not suggesting that gw2 is p2w. It is f2p, but paying money for time is AN OPTION that you may or may not choose. I don’t care how you dig out 117+ gold to get the 10 AR or 600g to get 13 AR or 70g for each ascended armor piece. You can play slowly and you WILL get them in a month or a year or two or three IF you are willing to put an effort for into. OR you can op out the easy way and go to McDonald work for 3-4 hours and pay for that 100+ hour time you would have played to get it.

That you would consider the option of flipping burgers in McDonald’s more preferable to actually playing the game and farming the mats does indeed suggest there is a problem.

No, there is not a problem here. You’re reward according to your effort. Flipping burgers at McDonoald actually contributes more to society than sitting at a computer playing GW2. Thus you are rewarded more for your effort. In fact if you are a lawyer or a doctor making over 100,000$+ a year you can easily put in 1000$ into gems to get over 2000g once a while. It’s an option. If too many people do that the price of gems to gold will change as reflected in the TP. But after all it is just a game.

The process of gathering mats for gear is part of the game. If you don’t have the patience to play the game it’s your problem. No one forces you to get the ascended / legendary gear now, asap. Do it in a year or two.

The idea is each item has a value that the market has placed on it. If you want the item, fork out the gold (whether it is from gem moneys or from time farm or from TP game it doesn’t matter). No one will hand it to you for free.

If you don’t have enough AR, maybe that higher level is not meant for you. Play a lower level (like many suggested) until you get enough gold and 1,2,3 infusions til you have enough. Surely 100 runs of lv 49 will net you enough of those. After all it only requires 512 +1 for a +10

Oh and if 60 AR isn’t enough, get 2 pieces of armor and you get 70 AR, only cost like what 50g-100g a piece?

Simply that standard crafting is pretty much left incomplete.
Can someone make full exotic berserker? No, temples only offer specific sets, PS gives masterwork, WvW vendors only offer soldier/invader stats and guild stuff goes up to rare.

Want to have a normal looking back item, like a quiver with arrows or gsword sheath? Not possible, only flashy ascended or limited temple stats.

False. Guild Backpiece has exotic berserker stat.

This in turn makes ascended/legendary vs. exotic gap larger.

Since the previous premise is false, this is nonsense.

Also in mind that devs promised that “elite” (ascended/legendary) gear won’t be better than standard high grade gear and it’ll be based on player skills. Like in GW1.
Tho this promise has been broken…

Nope, devs never promised that. Otherwise give a forum post or video to show which dev said exotic is final tier, and when. Ascended tier was released last year together shortly after release.

Ascended tier is the high grade gear. Legendary is elite. Anything less than ascended is substandard (though most of the game is playable with exotic)

Max is MUCH higher than +10-
There is currently +15 infusions available in the database (and that means someone have actually made it) and they have stated that it will be possible to get a very high number.

You need 70 AR to do lvl 50 Fractal with as little Agony damage as possible.
With two infused rings you can get 40 AR (+15 infusions and the +5 from the regular slots) and then with an infused backitem you can get another 20, which put you up to 60 AR.
And then you have the 10 AR from the Accessories and another 5 AR from the Amulet, which put you at a total of 75 AR.

I have a life outside of gw2, to get the amount of infusions required you would have to live in fracts from the date infusions started dropping, unless you have a ton of gold to obtain them via the tp.

+10 infusion is only 117g on the TP. If you claim you have a life outside of the game, maybe work an extra 3-4 hours, convert 50$ into gems to 200g or so and you get 2 of these.

+10+5 = 15 on both rings ALONE is +30 AR. Two accessories +10, the amulet +5, backpiece +5. That’s totaling to +50 AR from trinkets. You said you have weapons that’s another +10. You would have +60 AR

Being supposed to be a social game, GW2 party system is disgusting and anti-community. It promotes dirty play and on top of that ArenaNet won’t ever do a thing about both the system nor they punish the bad players and the griefers.

These threads come up once in a while. Though certainly most players have experienced in one form or another this sort of griefing and harassment, they are isolated enough that these threads will die before AreaNet even notices.

I have posted some ideas about how it is done to mitigate (but not eliminate) some of the griefing. Here they are again:
0. Pull down list of options / reasons to kick
1. Kick requires unanimous votes from all other party members not just one.
2. Kick requires unanimous and identical reasons to kick from all other party member.
3. If the kick initiate is not fulfilled by all party members, everyone who participated in the kicking cannot kick again in 1 hour or when party split up whichever one is shorter in time.

4. If instance opener leaves/dced/kicked the instance ownership is transferred to the next party member on the list.

5. A percentage participation credit for dungeon/fractal as follow
5a. 100+ hidden markers / flags are spread throughout the dungeon
5b. The placement is such that when a party reach the end all flags / markers will be checked.
5c. Once a first party member comes within distance of 5 feet of the marker, it will disappear and gives everyone in the current party one participation mark.
5d. At the end, everyone receives the reward proportional to the amount of participation marks they have.

This system will make sure that if you were there since the beginning you will get full reward. If a party of 4 guildies kick a pug to invite a guild member for the last boss, that guild member only receives 1% of the total reward.
