If they remove time gated, then these will increase even more which devalue their true worth.

What true worth? They are not worth anything more to me than exalted were before ascended gear got introduced. Yes, the cost is greater, but the worth is not. A BiS gear is a BiS gear.

10% more damage and defense, Armor alone: 14 major, +22 minor total 36 stat points. With 6 infusion slot each adds +5, total 30 more stat points with total 66 more stat points. With possible future infusion of masterwork +7, rare +8, exotic +9 and ascended infusion +10 per slot. Totaling up to possible: +6036 = 96 stat points more than exotic. On top of that they could release ascended runes / sigil which will fit only in ascended armors and weapons. Nope, it’s not worth anything. Don’t get it. You don’t have to. You’ll do fine with exotic.

Alt accounts for the win haha

That’s one advantage

Honestly I don’t see a problem. If you are assume about 50,000 accounts (which is a small fraction of the player base 2-3 millions) are pursuing ascended mats and consistently doing so, and it’s been four months since the release of ascended weapons, that means there are approximately 6 million deldrimor ingots and 6 million spirit wood planks in existence already.

If they remove time gated, then these will increase even more which devalue their true worth. I would be against it. People just need to be patient and produce one at a time. Over the course of one or two weeks and you’ll get a weapon, a month or two and you’ll get your ENTIRE set of armor.

Ascended equipment is supposed to be medium / semi-long term goal. If most semi-hard core players can get them in a day and most casual can get the entire set in a week, there would be no point. The point is hard core should be able to get the set in 1-2 weeks while semi-hard core in a month or two, and casual 3-4 months, with really lay back people should still be able to get the set in 6 months to a year.

They promised ascended gear tier is highest. The current infusion tier is only fine tier, you still have masterwork, rare, exotic, and ascended tiers to go. Same go for rune and sigil, currently they are at exotic tier, expect ascended tier for them too.

Raising level is meaningless, people will just craft the last 10, 20 levels in a flash.

On a random note, WoW is raising level cap to 100 next year with a new tier of gear again. Now, that is gear treadmill out of control.

You can also check their achievement points on the leaderboard, it display when they last earn an achievement point. Though not completely accurate about when they last log on, but it gives some indication.

After this check, you will find out a few member who has not earned a single achievement point in a few months. It is a necessary (but not sufficient) condition to indicate that that member might not be active.

This process helps to eliminate the possibility of the currently active members from your potential kick list. You will then only have to send out a few mail to those who haven’t earned their achievement point to check if they are active.

Those people probably grinded a lot and/or power trader which by definition not casual. I agree new players should have legendaries. Casual should be able to get one in a year or two or three or four depending how “casual” they play. Casual should be able to get one piece of ascended weapon / armor per month or in two months depending on how they play. They shouldn’t have to grind, just take time. Just play normally and you’ll get the item you want eventually (may it takes a year or two for more expensive items).

Grinding is optional. If you really really want it asap, grind for it. Otherwise everything can be obtained by playing casually. Subjectively I think a month or two for one ascended piece and a year or two for a legendary is the right length of time.

For me I’ve stocked up enough of all tier2-5 mats enough to make 600 bolts of damask, (about 180,000 silk scrap) enough for 21 of my characters so I won’t be affected by the increase in price.

All will be crafted in… more than a year and half. Happy clicking

Actually they all will be crafted in less than 200 days, which is just slightly less than 7 months. Produce 3 damasks per day instead of 1.

Now if you’re trying to solo a champ, it’s a different story. Not recommended for most casuals. But the champ events are usually done with a zerg so I’ve never die in those either.

Stars.2179

OK, if I understand correctly. They made that you need more silk to produce the same stuff as their medium and heavy armor counterparts simply to diminish the supply of silk?

If yes, how kittenING SILLY is that? I mean what the hell?

No, it does not decrease the supply of silk. It increases the demand for silk, which effectively achieves the same result, i.e., increase in equilibrium price, which I think for a tier 5 mat, should be around 80c-1s.

Also if anyone who crafted before could look at all tiers and deduces by pattern that light armor requires more of the same tier cloth material than medium and heavy and stock up these silks in hundred of thousands when millions of them were sold at vendor price +1c.

For me I’ve stocked up enough of all tier2-5 mats enough to make 600 bolts of damask, (about 180,000 silk scrap) enough for 21 of my characters so I won’t be affected by the increase in price.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Also I find it funny that the following fact is true:

If you find yourself logging in to farm champ train for mats, gold and not for the purpose of dragonites/bloodstone/empyreal/karma/laurels/fun, you might as well not play and be better off. Why? A person working at McDonald with minimum wage say 7.25$ an hour (say 6 $ of disposable income after taxes and stuff). Give up two hours of playing the game and add those two to work extra. That 12 $ → Gems → 50-60g.

If you work a professional job with 20$ an hour, sign up for that extra hour and convert into about 90g through gems. Do that consistently say for a month and you get 2700g. I bet 99% of the game population do not earn 90g per hour continuously.

If you play the game simply to get “rich” you might as well NOT play it and put money into it until you’re rich and play for other purposes. But then not all of us do things efficiently, that’s why we play and found ourselves mining those iron mines for hours while one could have gone to work a few extra hours and convert those to get all the iron you need for the entire month.

Current a person with 8 characters cannot craft more spiritwood than a person with just one and he should be able to. Time and effort invested 8 characters is a lot more than just one character.

I personally would even prefer time gated materials to be crafting profession wide rather than account wide or character wide. For example: Character A with 450 Armorer and Weaponsmith should be able to craft 2 deldrimor steels and 1 damask per day. If the account has another character B with 450 weaponsmith and artificer, that character B should be able to craft another 2 deldrimor steel and 2 spirit wood. After all the guy invested in TWO characters instead of just one.

You could convert gold to gems to buy the item. It’s just in a different currency

They could just make it so that merchant sell transmutation stones for varied exchange price between 3g20s to 5g per stone and it would make it effectively the same. Would you still complain if they do that?

Yes I would complain about that. It shouldn’t cost that much just to transmute some statistics from one item to the next. It is a basic part of gearing up your character, it shouldn’t cost a fortune to do.

You can pretty much say that transmutation is an essential component of the game play…. so why is it locked behind the gem store? That really needs to change.

[…] But for something as essential as transmutation… I have to pay real money for that?

So, which one is it? You agree that you don’t HAVE TO pay real money for that then? Your concern is that it costs 2g-5g per stone then. And that might or might not be a valid one depending on the opinion. Each one to their own.

Personally I don’t think transmutation is a “basic” gearing up process. It is rather a luxurious one, so charging 2-5g is fine. But that’s just my opinion.

Multiply 10,800 that by 50,000 people (a small percentage compare to the total population). The product is 540,000,000 scraps. I don’t know how many silk scraps are there in existence but that’s a whole lot and currently the volume of silk scrap in circulation is about 1.5 million (that is less than 1% of 540 mil) and declining.

Guild Wars 2 is never a WoW-wannable. Guild Wars 2 is a million times better than WoW. No power creep. Ascended is the highest tier. There won’t be any higher. Also gear treadmill would imply that there are tiers after tier after tiers non-stop every six months. Adding one and only one tier is hardly a treadmill. Would you call it a treadmill had ascended stuffs been released at launch at the cost of say roughly 1000g per item?

By your definition, then it is just not possible for ANY game to have a gear treadmill. An infinite number of gear tiers simply does not exist in real life and it is not possible to implement since computer resources are always limited.

Having a problem of reading comprehension do we? I never said anything about infinite number of gear tiers.

1. Releasing new tiers after tiers non-stop every six months does not imply anything about infinite tiers. I can keep counting 1,2,3,4,5,… til I die and wouldn’t able to reach infinity and it would still be able to consider “non-stop” but it’s relative to my lifespan. The word non-stop in that paragraph is relative to the lifespan of the game only. As time passes games that keep releasing new tiers provide an example of gear treadmill. Games like WoW is an example of gear treadmill. They release new and more power tier as time goes on with expansion as clearly exemplified by previous expansions.
2. Guild Wars 2 has a stop. There won’t be another tier after ascended as officially announced during interview.

That’s where the difference lie.

There is no game under heaven that releases a new gear tier every six months non-stop. So by your ridiculous definition, there is just no game that has a gear treadmill.

No game dev team, in their right minds, would waste their resources on adding a new gear tier every six months, non-stop.

XD You should check out Rappelz, and other Korean grindfests. WoW is another example though milder, maybe not every six months for this game, but definitely every year or so.

They did not come up with a new gear tier every 6 months, non-stop, so by your biased definition, they don’t have a gear treadmill either.

I would totally support a system where you can change ascended equipment stat in a limited way. For a cost of just an insignias / inscription let an ascended piece be imbued with the ability to switch between two prefixes. Each piece can only do this with two prefixes only (for trinkets, ability to switch prefixes combo and suffixes comb). So in this way it’s not as powerful as legendary and worth more of the time invested in making the item itself.

Just so you know that phrase refers to opportunity cost not wish fulfillment. That is if some one offers you a free lunch (and you choose to accept it) you have to take time to go get it, and/or eat it all things that preclude you from doing something else with your time.

As for what the OP said no matter what way they try to justify it this is a gear treadmill. Even if the stat increase is minimal (and the slots open the room even more stats through infusions). No matter the case whether it be 1% better or 10% better this is a gearing treadmill.

Or they could just use sentinels / knight / of the knight sets spec in full tanking + ascended trinket but only exotic armor. So unless you are ANet and can monitor the stat, you really can’t tell. There are just too much unknown variables.

1. Ascended armor gives 60 Defense (for heavy, less than that for medium light), +14 on major, +11 on minor stats (or +1% on crit) over exotic.
1a. Therefore stat gain is so insignificant from armor.
1b. You survive like 0.02 seconds longer and deal like +20 more damage to an average enemy out of like 5,000 with exotic
1c. You can do fine with ascended trinkets and exotic weapons/armor
1d. The argument that : vs some unknown enemy in WvW with full ascended in irrelevant and invalid. You don’t know if your enemy has full ascended. Such “what if” question is irrelevant. To assume in a zerg of 30 vs 30, that everyone in your zerg is exotic and everyone in their zerg is ascended is stupid. To assume that there is such an even number of people 30 vs 30 is also irrational.
1e. Therefore ascended armor is irrelevant in WvW.
Hence
2. You don’t need to have ascended armor for any “casual” contents. (Fractal 40
is not for casual, even if you want to do it efficiently just use ascended trinkets to have enough AR)
3. You mention you have a full time job. You may earn 30-50k a year. Pay 100$ for 8000 gems = 450g, and you have more than enough gold for two sets of ascended armor/weapons if you must. I’m not saying you have to, it’s just an option.
4. There is no such thing as free lunch. You can’t just say I want x,y,z and Kaboom avadakabra and you have it.
5. The cost is determined, everyone has to pay xxx gold for the set, you are not exempted.
5b. You can farm for it like everyone does, play the TP for gold, or pay for gold.
5c. There is an opportunity cost in everything. If you are not willing to do what it’s needed to obtain the set, you won’t have it.
5d. The people that farm all days to get the ascended stuff would lose out in life and other things, so in a way you’re even.

To repeat raiding is not an effective option because the chance of dropping is clearly miniscule and there’s no other system to make up for it (like a token system) as all other mmos have. We are asking for reasonable options not free stuff.

An average crafter would take about one month to craft 1 weapon / 1 piece of armor. You can run 3 dungeon paths per day for 180 tokens in total. So it would be reasonable to make it

1 weapon / piece of armor = 5,400 tokens + 50g + 30 ectos + 20 skill points

Similarly for fractals, each day you can run 1 tier for tier 1 through 5, so 5 × 30 = 150. Also you get 58 relic for tier lv 9. 79 relics for lv 19, 100 relics for lv 29, 121 relics for lv 39, and 142 relics for lv 49. So exactly 500 relics a day. 500 × 30 = 15,000

I guess you would be ok too if they make it

1 weapon / piece of armor = 150 pristine relics + 15,000 relics + 50g + 30 ectos + 20 skill points

Or as I suggested in some post above

1 weapon / armor piece = 40 laurels + 30 Obsidian shards + 30 ectos + 500 badges of honor + 20 skill points + 50g through a trader.

I would be fine with this exchange so it doesn’t hurt the crafters who spend endless hours farming to make their ascended items

It’s not the same thing. Just because people don’t earn AP doesn’t mean to say they have not logged in or done productive stuff towards the guild.

True, but it’s kinda hard to play actively for 10-15 mins without earning ANY achievement points for several days in a row. If a guildie just logs in to see the guild roster then logs off every time, then you might as well “count” him inactive.

Yes this check won’t work for a guildie who logs on and chats for 10-15 mins, run a marathon around LA 20 laps and logs off EVERYDAY. But then I would be rolling my eyes hehe.

I don’t think Deldrimor steel was ever 1g. IIRC it’s always been 3.9g-4.5g since it was released. But yes it’s did go to 5.7g and will keep going a little more. Kinda late to invest now I guess. I did buy 120 stacks of silk scraps and 80 stacks of thick sections when they were 8c each.

Bored of leveling.

Yes leveling is sooo grindy. ANET, please make the OP happy by having us all characters start out at lv 80. New characters just created will now begin at lv 800 with 500 crafting lv of your choice.
