None,… I stopped liking WOW weapons the second I left that game. I really hope for better designed weapons instead of ugly things covered with particle FX. Centaur weapons are still better in design for example than this crappy fire things.

GW2 art should come back instead of copy/paste WOW equipment. The game looks worst each patch.

Link for comparison otherwise everyone think you’re just making things up.

Why a fee to switch to a leveled discipline?

The fee never made any sense. I would settle for free once per day or so per toon. 50 silver to craft nourishment while slowly crafting ascended weapons and armor isn’t really necessary. The 50 silver is meant to discourage something. Discourage what?

Mean to encourage you to use a different character for the other profession thus by implication, discourage one character for all purposes.

Normally if you travel through the water in dreaming bay and go on land your stacks are intact, the problem now is even while using the intended method the system punishes the user.

A character (except engi and ele) are only allowed sigils effect (four total) from two weapon sets. You go underwater so you did change your weapon sets from land to underwater sets. No you didn’t swap it, you changed it (not manually through the hero screen) but by going into water or out of water.

Merely by having it equipped on your hero screen doesn’t mean you don’t change them by changing mode. You do change them. It is just that ANET makes it convenient for you to NOT having to manually click and change to a new weapon every time you enter or exit water mode. But nevertheless you do change your weapons.

Farewell GW2

Completely agree. Combat is just flat-out uninteresting.
In my opinion, making all skills usable while moving was a massive mistake (smooth as it may make the gameplay feel). All risk is removed from skill-usage – movement and positioning goes out the window, and spam ensues as it’s always in your best interest to use any skill. Couple that with the self-sufficiency of classes and a complete lack of any meaningful interaction with your team and you’re pretty much left with a bland single player experience in a multiplayer world.

I completely agree. Combat is so boring that you can stand at the foot of Tequalt and press 1. Positioning and movement are absolutely unnecessary in this fight. Just stood there and press 1 and eventually it will fall dead.

Same go for the Triple Head Wurm. Everyone just come and stacks at each of the wurms and attack. No coordination neccessary.

No interaction with other people necessary for the current famous Crown Pavilion either. Everyone just wear berserker gears. Stack up at each boss and press one. You have 8 minutes. With 50 people, it takes about 1 mins a boss. You go around in a clockwise or counterclockwise. Zerg all the way. You can do it in 6 minutes (out of 8 minutes) for the gold reward. Easy. No coordination needed. No teamwork.

By the way, what happens if you (legitimately) use the same stacking sigil on one of the weapons in each set, the underwater set and the surface one? Are the stacks preserved?

Not sure because each underwater has two sigils slot making total of 4 sigils if stacking is allowed?

No. Having the effects of three sigils in place of two sigils is wrong and an unintended design.

losing your stacks puts you in a disadvantageous position against a group that has full stacks.

You already have the effects of two sigils. If an enemy has a stack then he loses out the other sigil effect that you have.

I think the server architecture won’t let you do that. I’m not sure but I believe the physical servers are at different places for Europe and America. Because of that you can only guest to the worlds within the same physical server.. (Although information such as items, and messages can be transferred as data within the same game.) A dev also told me that server structures also differ between the two regions.

Since I bought it not too long ago, I’ll share my experience here

I first thought about buying the 250 giant eyes at around 2g each, but with my huge buy order I kinda screwed up the market I think —’ (I didn’t care much about cancelling my b/o everytime since I have gold so at some point I was buying 750 of them).

In the end I got about a hundred of them but I was pressed by the time (it’s Lilith’s fault) so I cancelled everything and bought it at 775g. I’m now selling my eyes at 2,5g each. I have 50 left and can sell them at 2,25g to you if u want. Just message me ingame.

So you were the person that had a price war with me at 350g → 411g for the immobulus?
I bid it at 500g and that night i saw the 774.99g one was gone. I was like OH MAN. So it was YOU!!, the next morning, someone sold it to me for 500g XD

The train isn’t the problem it’s the mentality. Unfortunately it’s impossible to fix it unless you deal with the underlying problem this game has: – Zerg is optimal – (in most circumstance – praising the new CP which is awesome that zerg fails there) but nevertheless

Either you have trains farm or you have basically nothing at all, pick one.

That implies that all champtrains should get stopped, not that the changes made to the starter zones should be reverted. I rather play in a ghost town than a toxic town.

By induction yes, it does implies that all champ train should get stopped. Then not only you have a dead starter zone, you’ll also get a dead game. GG

On a second thought I think I just realized what you are trying to do.

Ok I guessing that you have your ENTIRE guild guesting to say “Borlis Pass”? and then if it doesn’t work, you have your ENTIRE guild guesting to something else say “Devona Rest” and so on until it works (for most members) yes?

In a sense by luck you made that method works in the past but I can see now that doesn’t work anymore. This is how megaserver and guesting work (or that’s how I observed it to work).

1. Each world dooesn’t have its own instance of a map anymore (I guess you already know this)

2. When an instance of a map is created, it is fill with people of certain worlds in some (unknown to outsiders, only devs know the spec) way through either preference, language, guilds, friend list or some specified data collected the server.

This means

3. People of more than one worlds might be on the same map (consistently during the life time of that map)

4. “Guesting” set your weighted preference to those people of the world you selected and megaserver will try to place you in that map

Here are some curious data I took during the night before this patch:
If you type /ip it will give you the ip addresses of the map you’re on. Like right at this moment on Tarnish Coast – Bloodtide Coast: /ip is 64.25.38.200:0
For the id purpose, I only wrote down the last 2-3 numbers before the colon
This is the data for Gendarran Field on the night May 19, 2014

Devona’s Rest, Sorrow’s Furnance, Isle of Janthir, Sanctum of Rall, Maguma: map ip is 32
Crystal Desert, Northern Shiverpeaks, Gate of Madness, Anvil Rock: map ip is 52
Tarnished Coast: 57
Dragonbrand: 75
Jade Quarry: 78
Blackgate: 90
Borlis Pass, Eredon Terrace, Yak’s Bend, Henge of Denravi: 220
Kaineng, Ehmry Bay, Fergusson Cross, Fort Aspenwood, Dark Haven, Stormbuff Isle: 221
Sea of Sorrows: 238

That is how map population were grouped together on that night on Gendarran Field. Obviously it changes on each map and each day.

But you see, “weighted preference” is vague to outsider without inside data from devs, so we players can only guess in the dark (yes there are observable data but much is still unknown)

Something we don’t know:

During Teq, new Sparkfly maps are created, what are the criteria to place people in those maps? OR is it just basically overflow? – That we don’t know

Will it (the megaserver) try to place people into previous maps (because of weighted preference) before these “overflow” map first or will it split people evenly – That we don’t know.

Nevertheless guesting will never place you into an empty map unless the map you guested in is currently a new “overflow” map, in which case it wouldn’t be the correct map you wanted to guest in to begin with.

So telling your entire guild to guest into say Borlis Pass will only mean the megaserver will place some of your guild into Borlis Pass as much as it can – maybe 20-30, then the rest will be in some other maps, which you would be scattered out anyway

You can try guesting (previously pre patch) on another server and keep doing so until you’re lucky all the servers are full and one of you get placed into a freshly created map, then you can ferry the rest in. But why do that?

Instead you can try these:

1. Mass log out and log back in to hope that one of you get placed into a newly created map.
2. Have 12 designated officer/people each guest on a different server. Type /ip and write down the ip associated with map. Then proceed to ferry people in each of those map until they are full and write down which ip map is already full. Then hopefully new maps will be created. Have people log out and log back in (don’t guest) just log in and see if they are placed into new maps.

But you can see all guesting does now is set your preference.

Sorry megaserver suck for mega organized activities. But hopefully this information will help you out.

I think you need to learn how to multiply. You said you have 100 – 150 people. 100 × 2 = 200 tries. 150 × 2 = 300 tries.

Your players do not get thrown into 20 different maps like when you let them guest everywhere (prior to megaserver), they land on 4 up to 5 maps and from there you have to make the best out of it. All of those maps have maybe 20 free slots. Your guildrun get scattered and you can either give up, join the try on the map or even take over. But doing your own run is out of the question. We did extensive testing on all these possibilities, the outcome is far from encouraging.

Edit: Joining works only until the map is full. DonĀ“t even hope that around 100 randoms will leave the map even when there is no organized event up.

Then your problem lies with megaserver not with limited guesting

An End to the Queensdale Train

The last thing new players needed to be exposed to was the toxicity that was the train. That’s not to say the train was like that all the time, but there was sufficient toxicity that new players would have been alienated straight away.

The other thing the others have said but which bear repeating is that inexperienced players should not be told that trains and zerging is the way to play, that too disillusions newbies, especially when repeatedly told by (mindless) veterans who only do the train.

Im not defending the toxicity of the train. But the fact is there are trains. Newbs will be exposed to it sooner or later. What ANet did on this patch is to make all beginning areas basically dead area.

And guess what happen when those newbs move to Kessex hill and see the “toxic train” and then they’ll see “OMFGH WHY DO YOU KILL THAT CHAMP OUT OF ORDER!!” It’s the same crap. It’s you who must read it again. If you have 100-150 players, you sure can have 12 of them split up and guest to different servers. Once you find an empty map, they can ferry all other ones in.

It’s a ghost town / area now. Barely anyone is there anymore? And you know why? Yes the train is gone.

I’m not complaining, but when it comes to game design you have to remember why you buffed those champ with champ bags last year to begin with.

Let me remind you, that was because you wanted people to spread out into lower level zones. The Queensdale train was created for that sole purpose.

Great now, you killed the train and guess what happened? People simply move on to other trains. And Queensdale has again become a ghost town. It is a GREAT attraction for new players. Awesome, new people come in, they barely see anyone.

“Oh darn Guild Wars 2 suck no one is playing it, I’m quitting”

Wasn’t this the sole reason why you created the train last year? To attract more people to play in these zones to help new player out (sure there are negatives behavior of a few but overall it was helpful to new players), now you transfer those negative elsewhere (not eliminated, simply moving it) and those new players are left with a dead zone. GG

However, there was one saving point. After that patch, you had unlimited guesting to any server. So you can keep guesting to all servers until you find one with temples.

But they just changed it back to 2 guestings a day. Looking for temples is harder than ever.

ItĀ“s also a huge drawback for Tequatl and 3H-Wurm. Prior to patch you (the whole guild, that means 100-150 players at once) could just try to guest somewhere until you find one empty enough to do it with the guild. Now you have two tries, if you canĀ“t find one with those two then you are either forced to do it with randoms while splitting up your guild over five different maps or just forget about it. I personally are fed up with randoms and rather log out to play something else to relax. Organizing an Tequatl with randoms is a headache worth at best. 3H-Wurm is just impossible with them.
At least give guilds a chance to make it instanced during primetime.
The so called megaserver-algorithm for guilds still does not work.
Waiting till midnight to spawn it manually when almost no one is around anymore is not an option. Some people actually have to go to work the next morning. There is a reason we do these events on primetime.

Not true, you can still join each other’s map after you’ve guested to other worlds through the join feature. Which means if you have 12 people in your guild each choose a two different worlds to guest, you exhaust all worlds preference. Then you can join on one of those 12 people.

Here’s a solution someone else have presented:

Gemstore Item:

Dueling flag: 800 gems

Usage: Issue a dueling challenge to another character who also has a dueling flag in their current inventory and does not have the condition “duel resting”. If the target character does not have a dueling flag in their inventory nothing happen. If target character has a dueling flag in their inventory, but have “duel resting” condition, display a message to the challenger.

After acceptance, dueling flag creates a ring of xxx radius for 1 minute – 2 minutes?, while in this radius, both parties have immunities to attack / conditions from monsters. Each dueling party member is now appeared as “yellow” target on each other screen.

(Duel)

If any dueling party member leaves the ring, they become non hostile until challenged again. In addition once leave the ring, each the player now has “duel resting” as a condition, which last for 10 – 15 minutes. Cannot challenge / accept any dueling while having “duel resting”

Win for ArenaNet: make money
Win for people who wants dueling (duel away)
Win for people who don’t want dueling (can’t be bothered – no flag, nothing happens)

aO x bD only works when a = 0, b = 1 or a = 1, b=0, which is the same as looking at offense and defense separately. I thought about putting a weight on each but quickly realized that since multiplication is commutative you get:

aO x bD = (ab) (O x D) which, if a, b are constants, then so is ab, then we will still just maximizing OD anyway, which then defeats the purpose of putting them there to begin with.

To make it works, one would have something like

aO + bD, in which case a and b will actually matters, but we have to ask the question why would we add the two values? would it imbue a meaning to the rating? As I explained in the paper, the multiplication will actually be more meaning full.

Note that maximizing O+D is not the same as maximizing OD, so we have a difficulty translating the meaning.

A few months ago an in game friend, EvaristeGalois (I forgot how he spelled mr. Galois’s name :P ) gave me the idea that maybe putting the weight in the exponent would do the job, i.e.,

O^a x D^b

but then after consideration I discarded the idea because it just amplified the difficulty of the problem by a thousand times (literally) (chain rule during that partial derivatives and then solving multiple equations (about 21 equations) with 9-10 variables…)

But I’m still up for taking suggestion.

Pretty bad memory, haven’t you?

And tanking is supporting.

Nope. Here is a lesson on reading comprehension. That statement merely describes a characteristic of tanking. It neither confirms nor denies the existence of such. It merely asserts that if exists, it would be a subset of supporting.

O rly? You should get a nobel prize for the realization that berserker is the best.

First, maybe you should look up what exactly is a nobel prize before making such ignorant statements. It insults the entire scientific community out there sir.

Second, I’m not the first one to gather data to show that the numbers from berserker set give the highest offensive stat on an spreadsheet, which by no mean is a proof but it does give high confidence that that is the case. However, I’m the first to be able to show with mathematical proof that berserker set yields the highest offensive stat without involving spreadsheets (that involves: berserker beats assassin, or any future released sets that has ferocity as primary or any combination thereof) .

Third,

But unfortunately, cleric still is not the worst, as this place goes to soldier/sentinel (ignoring all the useless condition crap). Both sets offer approximately the same damage potential, but while cleric has more than enough defense to faceroll through any PvE content, it offers at least some kind of support to the group, while soldier is 100 % egoistic. So if the OP wants to run a subpar build, it should be at least one that gives something to a group.

Soldier set gives much more offensive capability to the user than the cleric. Or should I give you a lesson in how to compare number too? And that difference in offensive capability contributes much better to the group than a healing stat, in an already subpar build. Furthermore soldier / sentinel set clearly gives much more vitality than cleric (none) which does add to the survival ability of the user in case of taking conditional damage (again in a subpar build) and in a casual run it makes a difference.

Anywho, the OP already decided to use berserker set and congrats to him. OP you can get exotic berserker set by running COF.

This is wrong on so many levels, it’s ridiculous. First, there is no tanking in this game. Tanking means having the mob’s attention – however, the aggro system in this game is so wonky that you’ll never be able to actually tank. Unless you’re alone, but then have fun surviving even a dungeon trashmob trying to facetank him. Second, cleric gear is massively overpowered when trying to facetank stuff. You will not be able to AFK-solo the AC spider queen or do Arah 2 without any dodges in soldier/sentinel, due to the lack of sustain – clerics have already done it.

First, you’re ridiculous. I’ve never said there is tanking in this game. Tell that to the OP. I simply responded to his “requests” to “try to make a tank”. Second cleric gears is the worst. Why would you even consider the piece of crap? You should know better to stick with berserker dude. Just look at all Obal’s builds and see.

-full support
-not damage oriented, just keeping myself and the group alive (group comes before me, however)
-“tanky” as far as the game would let me be, keep enemy’s attention while the rest of the group focuses dps
-shout oriented, with pure of voice, superior aria, etc
-mainly pve, though recently i’ve been getting into wvw…is there a set with a happy medium i could craft/acquire?

Any support useful in PvE is totally independent of your equipment, hence a good build will always go for full offensive equipment and just take the supportive traits in the meta. Tanking is not possible anyway and if you go for defensive equipment, you actually reduce your chance to get any mob’s attention. This is no boring trinity game.

However, if you insist on being a healing-supporter and are aware that both competent and pseudo-competent dungeon groups will likely kick you for your useless build (though there are still many groups that don’t care), go for zealot or cleric gear. Do NOT go for the soldier/sentinel junk suggested by the poster above me, as that is absolutely selfish and just hurts a group due to the lack of damage while not bringing any kind of compensation.

-full support

Please read what he “wanted” before you post your unnecessary comments. He does WANT full tank. I simply answered the best mathematically possible tanky equipment set. Sentinel / Soldier gives the best defensive stat. It may not necessary be the best “support” role / heal set, but it is the best tanky set. And tanking is supporting. And if he does not want to be full heal and just want to be tanking while doing some support, the cleric gear is actually the junk. So OP if you want to use those, it is up to you. I am still working on the 4/5/0/0/5 build with split stats into vitality today. Probably will update it on Tuesday, then I’ll move to the 4/6/2/0/2 build next with more complicated traits such as Retributive armor.

I recently wrote a paper (still not complete but you can take a look) concerning stat, dps and optimization using a guardian build as example using a continuous approach. For now it only has one example, I will be updating it in the near future. All credits of the build and skill coefficients goes to Obal and DEKeyz. Also thanks to Nike’s for his wonderful damage calculator which took me quite a while to work out the difference between his and mine.

Warning: math intensive

Here it is:

Edit: May 29 – uploaded an appendix with full proof why berserker is best.

if it takes subscription

No, no and no. There is no correlation between subscription fee and better quality content. Just look at World of Warcraft. It is a piece of crap (examples: level grind, several tier gear grind (not only 2 tiers like in this game), horrible story line e.g., no story at all, copy of kungfu panda, horrendous graphic – really? it’s been over 7 years and they still haven’t updated the graphic and dozens of other problem and bugs that this margin is too narrow to contain) yet it has subscription fee. On the contrary, look at this game, it has no subscription fee and it’s a beautiful work of art and actually enjoyable and feel rewarding to play.

PvE Dueling

Here, you all want dueling so bad, I’ve got your solution.

Gem Store Item – 800 gems – Dueling Flag: Use issues a challenge to selected other player in possession of a dueling flag. If used on a player without a dueling flag, there is no effect and your dueling flag goes on a 15 sec cooldown. May not be used in instances, sPvP, or WvW.

WOOT!! Best idea in this thread!

Healing support need's improvement

1) self healing is fine as long you have the proper set up on your self, out healing is crap.

BINGO! You nailed it. Out healing IS CRAP! And it is working as intended? Why? Because ANet doesn’t want a “dedicated healer” role in any group. You can support, you just can’t be a healer.

Dueling in Pve gear—-that is what you already do now in pvp/wvw/team pvp since patch.- just select the gear and traits you usually use. and go pvp.
You don’t have to capture points to dual. just enter a map. with your friend and go dual..
No reason to waste resources building something that is already there-

Sorry to disappoint you, but you are incorrect. The gear selection in the PvP build browser is not PvE. For a few examples: the “Berserker amulet” doesn’t give you berserker gears, the valkyrie amulet doesn’t give you valkyrie. I want to wear half condition half valkyrie I can’t do it. The stats are not ascended stat, in fact it’s even worse than exotic stat. For example the base weapon strength of the PvP sword is 878-968, not 950 – 1050. Who told you PvE gears are now in PvP since patch??? Please do a little research before posting a factually incorrect comment.

No! absolutely not.
There is nothing as annoying as a constant pop up of “Annoyingkid.1337” wants to dual you- do you accept?."…(clicking no) —-2 secs later “Annoyingkid.1337” wants to dual you- do you accept?."…——- OK now I block the kid.
3 secs later “Anotherannoyingkid.1337” wants to dual you- do you accept?." NO FFS!

- Chat going: Dual? dual? dual??!!! come on —- its FUn!!!!!1337——
Whispers: Why wont you dual.- its Funn!!!!11!

Go to the arenas.- its the kitten purpose of them. I already want to use a flamethrower on all the zergs and crowds jumping around the Trading posts and banks…Really don’t want duals going on also.

Again, what people are asking for is a system where dueling is auto-disable as a default. It would have 2 options

1. Deny all dueling request
2. Allow dueling request

Option 1 is default. It would be the case that unless you manually have your setting set to option 2, all dueling request send to you will be denied from the requester’s end, i.e., you won’t even see the message. I don’t see a problem with that

About the argument that: well, they would just whisper me and pester me to duel!!!: ‘HEY wha’ts up coward, turn your dueling option ON"

People could do that to you NOW: “hey coward, go to pvp arena and 1 on 1 me”

In either case you could just block the guy.

Allowing the option above doesn’t change the behavior as it is already established. What it does is it allowed people who like to duel with PVE gears. It could help test out the effectiveness of one’s build and also help to train each other for WvW situations!!

The bad trait/skill list

in Guardian

I suggest play your guardian more to get a better grip on how it works. A few traits in your list are far from being useless. Please, at least try the trait yourself next time.

Care to elaborate on which traits you find useful and why?

Care to read the rest of the other posts before picking on one poster who probably didn’t care to list it because it’s already listed before?

Again I pointed out Communal Defenses is overpowered, which according to your opinion has little use and “bad”

Consider Shattered Aegis used in conjunction with Communal Defenses in a group of 20 – 40 guardians. Perma Aegis, perma damage to anything that touch that zerg and all they have to do is seat there and press F3 turn by turn once in a while.

Also Retributive Armor is good. It gives you minimum +3.4 % critical chance up to +6.5% crit chance for an adept trait (and please do your calculation before asking “oh where do you get your number”?). And for a DPS build +3.4% permanent crit chance is a lot, and for a bunker build +6.5% crit chance can help out.

Communal Defenses- Grant Aegis to allies when you block an attack.
(I’m not very familiar with this trait but from what I am told it isn’t worth it)

Uh, not sure what you are talking about but this Trait is OP!!!.
From wiki: “This trait does not have a target limit and will grant aegis to all allies within range.”

Imagine a group of 20 guardians stack together in WvW, all have this trait… OMG

Base Stat has changed

Stars.2179

Am I the first one to notice that base stat have changed? I’m not talking about ferocity.

Everyone’s base power at lv 80 is now 1016 instead of 916
Everyone’s base vitality at lv 80 is now 986 instead of 916
Precision and toughness are still at 916
Ferocity is 0

Can any developer verify this or is this a bug?
