After leveling 21 characters to lv 80. 3000+ hours of play. I made a new characters and ANet basically told me

1. nope, you don’t know what a downstate is, it is too hard for you to comprehend, so for this next character and every new character you make we will make you wait 5 levels"

2. you don’t know how to mine a copper ore nor cutting down a tree, sorry, wait a few levels before you can chop those trees down

3. you can’t proceed with your personal story because it’s too hard, your level is not good enough while i have a lv 80 friend helping me out. nope, no personal story til lv 10.

etc….

sigh. That’s why I don’t make any more new character. It’s a torturing experience.

Proposal Overview

Implementation of Guild Hall, Guild Cape and GvG

Goal of Proposal

Guild Hall: a place for guildies to hang out and plan things including Guild Missions, WvW objectives, role play and

Guild Cape: a symbolic representation of the guild as well as aesthetic and many people have waited and asked for

GvG: tournament 8v8 between guilds in Guild Wars 1 and a ranking system

Proposal Functionality

Guild Hall: separate, instance maps for guildies only in the Mist

Cape: difficult if not impossible to implement currently but it would be neat.

GvG: easy, create another leaderboard and different form of pvp format

Associated Risks

Guild Hall: none

Cape: probably make Quaggan suffocates but they’ll survive

GvG: this is hard because there will be lots o’ rage, flame and troll between members of different guilds if it’s getting heat up.

Game Updates: Traits

Hey all,

I see a lot of people talking but with a thread this long the details are often muddied by a large number of similar but differing opinions. I want to address some of the more straightforward stuff.

Trait Tier level increase. We made this change because despite what the more hardcore players like myself want, most players need to be introduced to systems more slowly so that they don’t get lost. Every time we overwhelm bold new players bold that is an opportunity for them to stop playing the game. Every time that happens it becomes harder and harder for *bold*new players bold to develop into longtime players. Without more longtime players it becomes hard for you and your current guilds to meet and find people to replace those who inevitably will be pulled away by real life from time to time.

Dear Jon, I understand the need to teach new players the mechanic of the game but that mechanic doesn’t need to be taught 64 times (to quote the amount of maximum character slot allowed per account).

I as a veteran player do not need to be taught how to use the down skills. I as a veteran player do not need to be taught how to use each trait 64 times to a total of 4160 times.

If this is a money sink or time time please say so, but please do not use a pretext or excuse of teaching new player to force any player to repeatedly hunt for all the traits again and again and again.

And to quote Colin, I and the majority of the players here do not want to “swing a sword again, and again” to get to the fun stuff. I do not want to kill that boss over and over and over and over again to get to the fun stuffs.

Similarly I and most players do not need to have to level up my newly made characters to level 5 to get to the down state. Sure a newbie the first time but the 5th? the 6th character? REALLY?

I and ALL veterans players and ALL newbies (after the first time) do not need to be introduced to a fluff mechanic restriction to have a FAKE impression of progression.

So Jon, please make it account unlocked already. If an account ready unlocked the downstate, make it unlocked.

If an account has a mesmers already unlocked trait X, please have that account unlocked trait X for all future mesmers.

Otherwise you could just simply come out and say it outright “Hey people it’s time sink and a money sink, DEAL WITH IT” but please don’t use the pretext of “teaching new players” to force these mechanic down our throat.

RIP keyfarming [merged]

Like i said i already have a build(That one just so happens to be the one i’m using :P) i was just asking if the stats are viable to use and would not decrease my DPS alot

You’re just in luck for a treat. The following is the spreadsheet I made for the 4/5/0/0/5 build with splitting points into defense. In this case into vitality but you can also split it into toughness as well.

For full ascended set, you have 2647 points to spare between primary and secondary stats with any primary + secondary <= 1902

In the spread sheet, the first column represents the values you would take away from the total 2647 to put into either Vitality or Toughness, The second column represents how many points left, then the next three columns (Power, Precision, Ferocity) is the recommendation to maximize damage with the remain points. Simplified Damage is the same as Effective Power if you’ve ever used Nike’s Calculator or used Obal’s guide. And the last column represents the percentage of that set up compare to full maximized DPS of the 4/5/0/0/5 build.

Here it is

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P8QbymPuZ3hopQCcL5DYBeBk_t1V1OJ1GZic9zUN18o/edit?usp=sharing

Enjoy!

Oh something to note: If you want those points to be vitality, some of the split stats are currently UNATTAINBLE until ANET releases the Power/Precision/Vitalty combo as well as Jewelry crafting.

Also the chart cuts at 745 points (one full minor stat set) into defense, because below that, your damage is crap.

Armor sets for all possible stat combos?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Let’s break it down. There’s Power, Precision, Ferocity, Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power, Conditional Damage, Condition Duration, and Boon Duration.

That’s 9 different stats.

Pick one for a primary and two out of the other 8 for secondary. There’s a total of 9 x (8 choose 2) = 252 possible combo. + 1 for celestial. That’s 253 different combo.

If each piece of equipment has 253 different combo. Let’s see

Armor there are 18 pieces (6 pieces for each armor type)
Weapons: there are 19 different weapons
There are 6 accessory pieces, each with 3 different infusion type (offense, defense, utility) So there are 18 accessory pieces

Total: (18+19+18)x 253 = 55 × 253 = 13915 different items that ANET will need to create for the ascended tier alone. But wait there’s more

Each item can be slot with an infusion. There are 5 infusions x 4 of each type (normal +4, there’s the +5, wvw infusion and versatile). Each need a different code or at least an item entry that need to MANUALLY entered

so there are at least 13915 × 20 = 278,300 extra items that need to be designed or at least coded.

[Suggestion] Duels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

It has been proposed from time to time an easy solution:

Dueling Flag [800 gems]

Flag mode: set auto-decline / see requested invitation.
Flag Use: Issue a dueling challenge to another player who also has a dueling flag in their current inventory and with auto decline off. If target player has no dueling flag or has flag but auto-decline on, nothing happens.

If accepted, dueling flag creates a ring of 1200 radius. Both parties are set to yellow (attackable) target to each other. If one player leaves the ring, both players now become “green” target to each other.

After leaving the ring, both players has the status “duel resting” for 10 mins. While under “dueling resting” cannot accept or send out dueling request.

How does one get into this game

Not sure if trolling but

1. Skill 1-5 are only half of your skill bars. Lv 16 you only have 11 skill points naturally from leveling, I don’t think you get all the utilities/elite skills yet.
2. One other word: Traits

Traits are just as important as skills. In this game we don’t have a skill tree. Think of skills as “cards” you can use in a deck in a trading card game, where Traits are actually more representation of progress.

And kitten there are two group of people in the forum demanding two different opposing view points regarding earning traits:

Group A: “OMFGWHYUKANET take a way all the trait now making us unlocking all of them and not able to get trait points til lv 30?”

Group B: “OMG why traits were so easy to get. WE DEMAND harder way to obtain traits?”

I’m not even going into the argument behind each side, it’s ridiculous.

Griefers...

Stars.2179

You don’t understand how the boss blitz works if you think anyone is being griefed because they’re “holding” the boss for burn. Some groups get bosses down faster than others, for a variety of reasons related to group makeup. So if Sparcus is at 80% and Kuraii is at 10%, nobody is griefing “that guy” by saying, "Hey, stop dps on Kuraii until Sparcus is lower, and don’t run to each boss and kill them, or Boom-Boom will take forever to get down and we’ll get worse rewards. Everyone, including “that guy,” is getting worse rewards because he is not playing the strategy.

I understand perfectly how boss blitz works having led several boss groups to 20-30 gold runs every night for the last three weeks with consistent 2:00+ on the clock on most night as well as having 3:30+ on the clock on the best night.

In your example, if Kuraii is already 10% and Sparc still at 80%. If you know there are random pugs who would keep attacking you should have stopped Kuraii at 50% then send some people to speed up Sparc. If you can’t do that then you’re not as organized and you don’t deserve a gold chest.

It is meant for extremely organized group and if you’re not an organized group then gold reward isn’t for that group, just like the Evolved Jungle Wurm. And guess what? a silver or a even a bronze isn’t that bad.

Yes, ideally all the bosses will burn down at the same time with four or so minutes to spare. But it’s pretty obvious that many instances of the Pavilion are far from ideal. And if the boss is scaled right, all it takes is one or two people attacking and that 20% melts away. To say that a random PUG of 70 people should be able to make allowances for ten people who don’t care or don’t bother to pay attention is really not true.

The 10 people shouldn’t be to make allowance for the 70 grumpy people to get a gold reward either. If they can’t take it and get a silver/bronze then they need to take a break and chill. The 10 people are not breaking any rule. They are playing contents as it is designed to be played, i.e., kill the bosses as fast as possible (within their capability).

In a sense telling them to hold and kill the bosses at the same time can be considered as an exploit because you essentially stop the bosses from giving each other’s their power by giving them practically no time – but this is just one way to look at things – not my personal opinion.

This level of strategy is not suited for open-world. You can tell because ideal runs happen most often in instances populated by coordinated guilds or groups of guilds. Ideal runs happen when people force it to become essentially a private raid.

Yup All of the runs I’ve been with have Teamspeak coordination. Granted there are pugs who sometimes killed bosses sooner. And yes I’ve taken about 122 silvers and 64 bronzes out of the 1394 runs I’ve done, but most of the time we managed.

Why should so few people be able to so effectively ruin an event for so many? A festival event, no less. It doesn’t make sense, and it’s bad.

Maybe sit back and enjoy a few silver/ bronzes instead of freaking out “OMFGYUNOOOB Killing BOOSSS EARLY”? It’s a festival, chill

Griefers...

1. Why does he/she have to play the way you want him/her to play? By all mean those bosses event are meant to be for everyone. Everyone has the right to get a shot at it. You are griefing him by holding just as much as him killing it and not holding? Who are you to define how he should play?

2. If the ENTIRE coordinated group can’t take into account of one or even ten people attacking too much and look ahead and say “well they are going to keep attacking, we should stop at 20% and have them keep going”, then this claimed-to-be-coordinated group FAILS

3. You could do better by killing the other bosses faster by matching them accordingly. There have been groups that finished with 4:30 mins on the clock. No need to “hold” for burn.

I may be wrong but basic review of the specifics of MDY Vs Blizzard shows that Blizzard did in fact sue a Botting company, .. and won.

I don’t understand your point.

In Blizzard vs Mdy

“MDY Industries appealed the judgment of the district court, and a judgment was delivered by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on 14 December 2010. In the ruling, the summary judgment against MDY for contributory copyright infringement was reversed. The court ruled that "for a licensee’s violation of a contract to constitute copyright infringement, there must be a nexus between the condition and the licensor’s exclusive rights of copyright. Here, WoW players do not commit copyright infringement by using Glider in violation of the [terms of use].

(However) […] The court […] upheld the judgment that MDY violated the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act against trafficking in copyright circumvention technologies, […] (namely because Glider tries to hide itself for Warden)

The summary judgment for tortious contract interference was vacated and remanded to the district court for further consideration because the requirements for summary judgment – that as a matter of law, judgment could only possibly be found in favor of one party even when all disputed facts are considered in a light most favorable to the other party – were not met. "

The court found that MDY violated a portion of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act because Glider tries to hide itself from the detection program – Warden – but not in the sense that it helps the player copy anything. But that of itself does not warrant a monetary penalty because the judgment could not be met. Hence I said “Blizzard fails” in the sense that they couldn’t win.

It is actually better believe it or not. Think of it like this.

You wonder if you want to go to map A at waypoint X (for whatever reason, event, guild meeting etc). You pull up the world map. You see waypoint X as well as a bunch of other waypoints X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, etc (listed by closest distance to waypoint X)

If waypoint X is not contestable, then previously, you see waypoint X not contested. Now you still see waypoint X not contested. Nothing changed.

If waypoint X is contestable, then previously, you see waypoint X contested, now you see it uncontested.

You THEN decide whether you want to waypoint. The following happen:

You either waypoint, or you don’t.

If you don’t, nothing happens in both cases.

If you do. Previously you would see waypoint X contested. If waypoint X1 is contestable, you would also see it contested. If waypoint X2 is contestable, you would also see it contested, until you see one that is NOT contested, say X4 (which is probably a mile away).

You waypoint to X4, only to find out that X1, or X2 is not contested. You then now decide to either run to X or waypoint to X1 or X2 – take that or miss the event if there is one.

With the current system. You waypoint directly to X (because you see it uncontested) from your map. On its map X is contested. The system will then see if X1 is contested. If it is not, then you are ported to X1 (without cost). If X1 is contested, then the system see whether X2 is contested, if not then you are directed to X2 (again without cost), etc. instead of you having to go all the way to maybe X4 or X6 then have to teleport to X1 or X2 again.

TL:DR: The current system is better.

Well I do know that some companies sue some websites for sharing their products for free on torrents, basically I don’t know if by law Anet could sue gold selling sites to get rid of them, it’s really easy to find those sites, other way would be adding gold sending limit, as most gold sellers send gold by mail. Indeed there is no way to 100% stop gold selling but are a lot of effective tools to reduce it.

They can try to sue those company but I guarantee you it will fail. Sharing products for free on torrents is a violation of copyright laws, which are penalized from 200$ to 15,000$ per product. However, botting and gold selling is a violation of EULA, which falls under contractual law. Anet will have to establish a harm done by violation of such contract which would be difficult. [See Blizzard vs Mdy case where Blizzard fails to sue a botting company for WoW.] Banning those violators is much more effective than suing them.

Suggestion: Ascended Limited Stat Swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Just because you could experiment with different builds using cheaper gears doesn’t mean you should not be able to experiment with it on the higher tier. The gear stat on different tiers are also different. For example:

Here is the chart of various offense rating for 5/5/2/0/2 guardian build with different gear quality set up:
Full Ascended Berserker: 4693.1
Full Exotic Berserker: 4310.26
Full Rare Berserker: 3906.9
Full Masterwork Berserker: 3724.73
Full Ascended Soldier w/ Power infusion: 3341.76
Full Fine Berserker: 3148.45
Full Ascended Sentinel w/ Power infusion: 2945.68
Basic Berserker: 2403.54
What does the offense rating mean?
To find the total dps of one full 10.1 seconds for greatsword rotation done to a 2600 armor target, multiply the offense rating by the following appropriate coefficients:
Ascended: 7.656585, Exotic: 7.291157, Rare: 6.462854, Masterwork: 6.003459, Fine: 5.561465, Basic: 4.440819
The following is the total damage for the full greatsword rotation
Full Ascended Berserker: 35933 (100 %)
Full Exotic Berserker: 31426 (87.46 %)
Full Ascended Soldier w/ Power infusion: 25586 (71.21 %)
Full Rare Berserker: 25249 (70.27 %)
Full Ascended Sentinel w/ Power infusion: 22553 (62.77 %)
Full Masterwork Berserker: 22361 (62.23 %)
Full Fine Berserker: 17509 (48.73 %)
Basic Berserker: 10673 (29.70 %)

As you can see the calculation seems to imply exotic berserker is better than ascended soldier in both cases, however if you measure by power rating only even masterwork beserker is better than ascended soldier in term of damage. However when you take into account of full rotation. Ascended soldier actually beats Rare berserker and masterwork.

Just because you don’t want to experiment with it doesn’t mean other people don’t want to. The tier stats are different. Experimentation is not the same. And this is just pure damage calculation. There are people who would like to verify that these are correct (approximately) without having to creating several different sets.

What about condition dmg, healing, etc. There are those who wants to experiment with those as well.

Suggestion: Ascended Limited Stat Swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Currently ascended equipment creations (weapon and armor) cost are really prohibitive. ArenaNet has made it easier for players (with alts) by making Ascended equipment account bound. However, it doesn’t change the fact that it is really difficult to experiment with different builds without having to make several different sets.

I would like to suggest to have Ascended equipment be able to fused with different ascended insignias (for armor) or ascended inscriptions (for weapons) so we can swap the stats. The players still have to create different insignias / inscriptions but not the entire weapon/armor set in exchange they still only have ONE set but can swap the stats to any of the fused insignias/inscription they created.

This will help not clutter the inventory as well has saving cost a bit for those who has only one main and would like to experiment with different builds.

To make it so that this won’t be on par with legendaries, we would only restrict the stat swap options to THREE different stat combos only.

What is everyone’s opinion on this?

Lions arch gold

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

It wouldn’t have been more than 7,527,600 golds. Here’s the break down

From May 20 to June 30, there are 41 days. Each day has 24 hours, and hour has 60 minutes. 41 × 24 × 60 = 59040 minutes.

Now ASSUME that each map runs that Deathrifyer’s best clear speed: 3 minutes 30 seconds (4:30 on the clock) which is not realistic but we are giving Heal o tron the benefit of the doubt. Also assume EVERYONE takes 30 seconds to donate every single run. It takes about 4 minutes per run best.

59040 / 4 = 14760 runs per map.

There are 51 worlds in total. Let’s assume again there is one map in demand for each world (yes i know megaserver is different, this is an upper estimate).

And it costs 10g per run donation

14760 × 10 × 51 = 7,527,600 golds.

Now each world going to have ONE Lion’s Arch rebuilt, so

7,527,600 / 51 = 147,600 gold (yes i know its the same copy but technically each of the world has its own copy of lion’s arch

So if you think it only takes 147,600 gold coins to build a city, it’s rather CHEAP for me.
EVEN if it takes 8 million gold (which is upper estimate round up) it is still WAY CHEAP!!!!

This bothers me, so so much.

There are several fundamental questions to be addressed here that haven’t been clarified by ArenaNet:

1. Is sabotage allowed in WvW?
2. Is spying allowed in WvW?
3. Is there or should there be even an honor system in WvW? After all it’s a war zone. So should anything besides exploiting / hacking / botting be allowed?

What if a person buy 24 accounts and set each one in different world and start giving information and act as saboteurs for other worlds for gold? Don’t think of as selling – Think of it as “my guild would reward me 100g” this week for sabotaging world X or spying on world Y. etc. Would such action be allowed?

Would a multi world guilds be allowed to fill in borderlands of world X and just actively dance around the base so world Y going to win?

Is cross worlds alliance allowed so two weaker worlds can team up against the strongest world? Clearly this has been done several times in the past and is “encouraged” by ANET. But is this cheating? How is this any more (or less) honorable than spying and sabotaging?

Is there even an honor system or we are going all out?

Crafting is a quick way to level but expensive. Right now the quick and cheap way to level a character is doing the BB. If you’re good and lucky to be on a good map, you can gain one level every round (about 6-10 mins). Every four round you get enough token in exchange for a tome of knowledge. Offense Rating 1: 4825.00
Offense Rating 2: 5290.44

Note among these five builds the higher offense rating does not strictly imply the build does more damage in general. I’ve sorted the builds by “potential” to do more damage than the listed number. The ones with lower offense rating have potential to be higher than even the highest one. For example, compare the 4/5/0/0/5 build with the 6/6/2/0/0

In 4/5/0/0/5 you would take UC and MoC, and PotV in Virtue while you don’t have that in 6/6/2/0/0. What is the trade off? In 4/5/0/0/5, MoC gives you less recharge time and longer duration on consecration skills. UC gives you +20% dmg while under aegis and PotV gives you a constant boost of about +2% dmg. So sometimes the power rating of 4/5/0/0/5 could be 4380.46 × 1.2 × 1.02 = 5361.68

The middle three builds 5/5/2/0/2, 4/6/2/0/2 , 6/6/0/0/2 give up PotV and one of UC or MoC in order to increase the base offense rating. So they have the highest potential dmg output if you take UC but then you don’t have MoC.

The difference between the 5/5/2/0/2 and 4/6/2/0/2 is the 4/6/2/0/2 gives up 50 power (and the GM Zeal trait which increase symbol dmg) while boost sword/focus crit chance by 15% (+315 precision) hence the split in the offense rating of the 4/6/2/0/2, and 6/6/0/0/2

The difference between 4/6/2/0/2 and 6/6/0/0/2 is that the 6/6/0/0/2 gains 100 power more than the 4/6/2/0/2 as well as the GM minor trait and the GM major to inscrease symbolic damage and condi dmg however, it gives up 100 points in ferocity (and conditional damage) as well as 0.07 x (916) = 64.12 points in precision from retributive armor

The three middle builds are roughly equivalent in term of damage with the later two 4/6/2/0/2 and 6/6/0/0/2 being slightly stronger than the 5/5/2/0/2

While the first one 4/5/0/0/5 build is more versatile and the last 6/6/2/0/0 having the highest base offense rating but less potential for more damage (relative to other four)

*Note: If you use the 4/6/2/0/2 and 6/6/0/0/2 be aware of your team composition as well as possible fury buffs as well as spotter and banners which will boost your crit chance to over 100% meaning points will be wasted. In that case use Peanut Squash Soup instead of Truffle Steak. Also the sigil of accuracy is for general roaming. If you do specific dungeon you should use Night+Slaying or Force+Slaying instead

Bloodstone dust nerfs?

Stars.2179

I’m fairly certain OP is not serious

Actually I’m dead serious.

Do my ears deceive me? Are people kittening that they nerfed bloodstone dust?

After threads and threads and threads about there being too much of it?

rolls on the floor laughing

As I said when they nerfed karma into oblivion…. we reap what we sow…

If there was a change, then clearly it only affects players with 21 characters that need 51,000 bloodstone dust….

Dragonite Ore is what’s really going to screw him lol.

1. Actually my 21 characters are split into 3 accounts of 7 each. So just as any normal person would have about 5-8 characters, my situation is absolutely normal to an average player.

Dragonites, you have a consistent way of farming it. Taking for example. I also need 51,000 dragonites (already got 12,000 over the last 2 months playing on and off, remaining 39,000).

With the 39,000 I need. Each day for each account. I can do 1 teq for 50 dragonites, shatterer for 20, golem for 20, karka queen for 30. That’s 120 dragonite ore per day. I also play simultaneous on two accounts at once on two different computers. So this speed up the process. You can see 13,000 / 120 is just slightly over 4 months left of work that I can get all the dragonites I need.

For emp fragments. I happen to also have a 4th account of 2 mesmers stationing on 5 different jumping puzzle. Each of the main account also have 1 mesmer stationing at 3 other jumping puzzle. Each jumping puzzle gives on average 7 emp frag. So
I get about 7 × 5 × 6 = 210 emp per day per account. And 17,000 / 210 is just slighlt over 80 days.

The bloodstones are the only ones that not many people do champ train to be able to obtain. Even an average person which has 7 characters will need about 17,000 bloodstones to get all their characters ascended will have a hard time getting all the bloodstone now if they haven’t hoarded them up before.

It’s confirmed. ANET officially nerfed the bloodstone. Each bag only gives 0-2 now instead of 0-8…. WHY WHY WHY? Why do you punish NEW players?

AND on top of that you don’t even document it in the patch note!

Did they nerf Bloodstone dusts from champ bags on this patch? I hope not. I have 21 characters and need over 51,000 pile of bloodstone dusts. I understand some people have several stacks. But I still need over 51,000 dusts. So please don’t nerf it.

… and you won’t have problems with AFK autoattackers scaling up the event but providing very little DPS.

Give them one or two warning on map chat / whisper. If they don’t listen, tell the commander: they’ll write their name and account name on the sanction list. There is one going. Anyone on the sanction list will not be a taxied in any of the TTS map.

It’s been a while. With recent festival events, I’ve been enjoying the blitz rather than working on this lol. However, I’ve finally written an appendix as requested to see the full calculation / proof for berserker in 4/5/0/0/5 build.

I also have the data for split vitality stat for this same build as well as the 4/6/2/0/2 build and how to maximize if one are not too comfortable to run in full berserker and prefer to opt out a bit of stat toward vitality instead.

Will upload the next part in a week or two (I have a life and enjoy the game too :P)

Why a fee to switch to a leveled discipline?

in Crafting

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

The fee never made any sense. I would settle for free once per day or so per toon. 50 silver to craft nourishment while slowly crafting ascended weapons and armor isn’t really necessary. The 50 silver is meant to discourage something. Discourage what?

Mean to encourage you to use a different character for the other profession thus by implication, discourage one character for all purposes.

If that were the case then why have the master crafter achievement?

Huh? Master Crafter Achievement can be achieved to have all 8 crafting disciplines mastered and meant to be one to two disciplines on different characters.
