Materials nerf is coming?

Look at what happened to soft wood. This is a total prediction, not an official statement. I have a hunch that the following will happen either this coming update or in two weeks.

1. Mithril rate will become 3 ores to 1 ingot.
2. Silk and Thick leather sections will become 4 scraps to 1 bolt/square
3. Tier1-4 Cloths/leather will become 3 scraps to 1 bolt/square

So, it is advised that you refine all your mats now (with exception of softwood) base on the following rationales (still base on reasoning / speculation).

A. ArenaNet will never make it so that 1 scrap = 1 bolt since that will make materials become dirt cheap. Base on the trend that has happened when ascended weapons were introduced, this will not happen.
B. If ArenaNet does nerf the mats like they did with woods and irons and you have not refined, you will lose out. Take wools for example, the current rate is 2 scraps = 1 bolt. If you have in stock 2000 scraps (8 stacks) which is equivalent to 1000 bolts. Now suppose AreaNet decide to nerf it to 3 scraps per bolt, your 2000 scrap is now only 666 bolts. You’ve just lost 334 bolts (which is 8.00 gold) for no good reason.
C. If you convert and ArenaNet does not nerf it, then no harms come.
D. You only incure a loss ArenaNet decides to un-nerf things like soft woods after you refined, which is unlikely for Mithrils, cloths and leather

Conclusion: It is better off to refine all your mats NOW before the update than wait til it is too late.

I don’t mind getting them through crafting. I hope whatever new ways ANET introduce for ascended armors/weapons should be equivalent in cost and time it takes for crafting. For example: they could make 1 weapon / armor piece = 30 laurels + 30 Obsidian shards + 30 ectos + 500 badges of honor + 20 skill points + 50g through a trader.

Unique names…..That’s why I reserved 14 of my characters’ name before launch. And the other 7 (all of which have been claimed in GW1, but those players’ were inactive so they weren’t reserved), when the game launched during those first 30 seconds I jumped in created a random character, grabbed the name. Alt+F4, log in again grab another name and did it as quickly as possible (and yet one was still taken)). So now I’m happy with all of my characters’ names.

My prediction for next year? Scarlet’s DO NOT TOUCH has somehow affect one of the Elder Dragons, which would now surface and attack. People seek for old knowledge of ascension hence the opening of the passage to the Crystal Desert from the Fields of Ruin extending from Deldrimor Front to Crystal Desert to Elon River and Scavenger’s Cause Way.
By April ANet’s secret team who have been working on the expansion is “ready” to discuss this. By August 2014, the expansion will come out we’ll see the eastern half of the map completely unlocked.

Also at this time another secret team of ANet would have been 1/4 of their way working on the Ring of Fire south to the Unending Ocean to Cantha with possibly connecting the Dominion of Winds to it, preparing for the second expansion with the two new races, one of which is the Tengu. We’ll have to go through 2014 – 2015 with just the Crystal Desert.

By April 2016, this second team will be ready to announce the second expansion with Cantha open for exploration.

Of course all this is… speculation/hopeful

I don’t like Wildstar’s art style. ESO is sub and I personally think their art is not as good as GW2. Also I feel the skyrim control style is not very smooth. Although the thought of putting all Elderscrolls maps into one game really draws me in, the subscription is a no no for me (personal reason rather than financial ones). Also RP is important to me but I don’t feel like buying the game, create characters to just reserve the names and drop it, won’t come back until they change the payment model – that’s just ridiculous, I might as well not play it so I wouldn’t be too invested.

ascended gear logic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Stars.2179

Well, ok to answer the original question. Yes it is a gear “treadmill” if you really strict on defining what a gear treadmill is. I believe most people think that gear treadmill is ever increasing power creep without stop; new gears with higher power introduced every six months. This isn’t true. As announced by Colin, “this should be it”. Ascended is the highest tier. There won’t be any higher, so it is hardly a “gear treadmill”

Why was it introduced? Yes, it was introduced to please the crowd that constantly complain that “there is nothing to do”, and “there is no progression” and “there is no end game”. It is in this mindset that ascended gear was introduced with expectation that a CASUAL player would be ABLE obtain the gears in medium length time, i.e., 1 month per piece.

With that in mind, if you are a player that wants EVERYTHING NOW, and are willing to grind for them, then you are, by [ANet’s] definition, not casual.

If you go into WvW and worry about having OCD about 10% stat disadvantage among 100 people of stats you don’t even know but worry about the theoretical side of it (- what if everyone has ascended stat and you are the odd one one – which probably isn’t the case anyway), then you again by definition are not casual.

Whether you agree with it, that’s a difference story.

Perhaps a casual player wouldn’t mind having subpar gear for a year before they can get the best. Perhaps a casual player wouldn’t mind going into WvW with 10% stat disadvantage considering the crowd is so big anyway.

Whatever is the case, ascended gear is not designed for casual players to be able to obtain quickly.

It seems that it is designed for the semi-hard core to hardcore players who want “something to do” after they’ve maxed everything. And yes there are those who will equip their entire accounts with all ascended, and yet it takes them shorter than a casual would to get his ONE toon equipped.

Without the use of any runes:

A full berserker exotic set gives [+999 pow, +695 pre, +62% crit]
A full berserker ascended set with all +5 pow in all infusion slots gives [1157 pow, 745 pre, 75% crit]

A full soldier exotic set gives [999 pow, 695 tog, 695 vit]
A full soldier ascended set with full +5 pow in all infusion slots gives [1157 pow, 745 tog, +745 vit]

So no, not a lot of difference. You don’t have to get them. It’s optional.

Well obviously one wouldn’t want to buy 60 slots and level up each one to lv 60 just for the sake of standing there on top of southsun and switch servers to farm 9 ori ore per day XD. I just point out the extra “bonus”. Also after 100 days which you make 4000g, do that for another year or two and this extra bonus will net you: one year 300 days (underestimate for taking into account of “break” days), total 12,000g per year and in 5 years, this extra bonus net you 60,000g

I actually have 21 chars (all lv 80 since June), so with a little modification to the method above, I can quickly get 300 orichalcum ores, 126 ancient logs, 12 passion flowers, 420 iron or platinum ores per day in less than 4 hours. That’s about 36g. And no I don’t farm across all four maps, just 6 ores from frostgorge and about 9-12 from southsun per char. Switching char /server is actually faster than zoning .

Believe it or not, if you station 60 of those 64 on top of Karka Hive, just log on gather 3, switch server gather 3 more, switch 3 more. You get 9 × 60 = 540 orichalcum ores PER DAY. That’s more than 40g per day (takes about 2 mins of loading time + mining, so about 2 hours for 40g). Do that for 100 days (3 months) and you get 4,000g. More than enough to break even the cost.

Now that Ascended armor will be available for crafting in Dec 10, with tailoring, armorer and leatherworker being move to lv 500. I have few questions for the developers:

1. Will the stat combination [Power [major], Precision, Vitality] ever be available or such things will never exists?
2. Concerning jeweler, will they be pumped up to lv 500 for crafting ascended rings, amulets and accessory?

Concerning the above point, yes I know we can get ascended rings, amulets and accessories through fractals, laurels, and guild commendations. However the stat is extremely limit.

Unlike exotic, you can’t modify the suffix of the stat. In other tier, prefixes are fixed the moment items are crafted, but you can change suffixes by inserting jewels.

I am looking specifically for ascended rings, amulets and accessories with soldier [Power, toughness, vitality] prefix and berserker suffix [Power, precision, crit damage].

For example, currently an ascended ring with soldier stat has from prefix
[71 pow, 50 tog, 50 vit] and from suffix [32 pow, 18 tog, 18 vit] to a total of [93 pow, 48 tog, 48 vit]
An ascended berserker ring has stat from prefix
[71 pow, 50 pre, 4% crit] and from suffix [32 pow, 18 pre, 4% crit] to total [93 pow, 48 pre, 8% crit]

I would like to be able to craft a ring that has soldier prefix [71 pow, 50 tog, 50 vit] and berserker suffix [32 pow, 18 pre, 4% crit] to a total of [93 pow, 18 pre, 50 tog, 50 vit, 4% crit]

This can be done in exotic trinkets, will this be available this year? The developers did promise that all professions will be boost to l.v 500 by the end of the year, I wonder if it will be kept. Improvement suggestions for the party instance system

in Suggestions

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

The current party instance system has the following problems:

1. If the instance owner leaves/disconnected, the entire party is kicked.
2. Vote kick only requires one more vote (2/5).

The current system gives temporary IMPUNITY to the instance owner to do whatever he wants. Any effort from the other 4 players to punish him result in collateral damage to all. (The other players can report, submit support tickets, etc., – it doesn’t matter whether or not the guy will be banned / suspended 72 hours – the damage HAS BEEN DONE – let alone most players don’t even bother, hence the griever walks away unpunished.)

The current system clearly favors if not encourages such behavior.

Here is the true story. A group of 5 went to Fractal of the Mist, lv 20. Everything went fine until the middle of the 3rd stage after an hour and a half, the instance owner starts to insult one of the members, calling names. The said member keeps being quiet about it. After 5-10 mins of more insulting, the member fights back and defends himself. The instance owner losing in his logic, threatens to kick the member. The member decided to counter kick the instance owner. Now the other party members are quiet knowing what would happen if the instance owner is kicked – that is the entire party is kicked. In fact one of the other members said “You can’t kick him, all of us will be kicked”.

One of the other members steps in and tells the instance owner to shut up and gets on with the game. Unfortunately the insults keep going. One of the white knight in the group finally gave up and second vote kick the instance owner – knowing full well the consequence. And as the result all 5 were kicked. The other two bystanders were like OMFGWTFRUSTPD. They know the bad guy but couldn’t do anything about it. Two hours wasted.

Moreover, two good innocent bystanders who would probably like to help – kick the harasser – couldn’t do it, and finally being punished as well.

I am also sure that many of you have experience or witness such behavior once or twice during the last year of your fractal runs.

The reason why the instance owner could do this is the result of this temporary impunity that he knows he has (and for no good reason why he is the only one having it). He knows full well the weight and threats he has backing his words. This is typical of cyberbullying and a form of harassment. It is a crime. Yet is is ENCOURAGED in the current system. Sure, there is the report system – which no one probably bother to use,
and the one being harassed is probably too discourage to even use it – in fact there is no option to report “harassment”. But what we can do is not to have post-action to punish the harasser. What we can do is to PREVENT it.

Besides that there a minor problem of – instance owner disconnected, entire party is kicked. Two guildies kick everyone else and invite their friends / alternate account in for the reward after a long dungeon run, etc. – yes, they have been (probably) reported and (possibly) suspended 72 hours – but that is besides the point. You don’t want 1,2,3, 4 (you name it) hours of effort wasted. You don’t want to every time entering the dungeon having to think “OMG I hope there is no griever here, who owns this instance?” etc.

With that I would like to suggest the following changes to the current system (whether the current one is working as intended or not):

1. Do not close instances as long as there are people in it. – This has been done in Guild Wars 1, the mechanics are all there. I believe the current is the design CHOICE instead of technical difficulty.

2. To prevent two people from abusing the kick system – I mean 2 out of the remaining 4 people is HARDLY a majority. In fact that majority means more than half – I would like to propose:
In party of 5, 3 votes (2 + kick request) are required to kick
In party of 4, 2 votes (1 + kick request) are required to kick
In party of 3, 2 vote (1 + kick request) are required to kick
In party of 2, well I guess each go their own way.

3. With suggestion #1, this let people to decide for THEMSELVES who the griever is and even if he is the instance owner, he cannot act with impunity.

I realize that this issue is more rampant and urgent to change than some T3 human look alike is being added to the gemstore. Please consider it.

Sincerely.

will ascended gear be alt-friendly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

About the advantages of having 8 alts (I’m assuming you already max out at lv 80).

  1. Roleplay.
  2. Change classes on the flight when you feel like it.
  3. Farming. Once per day you can get
Frostgorge: 6 ori ores, 6 ancient woods.
Malchor Leap: 18 ori, 12 ancient.
Southsun: 15 ori (6 ori plus 3 × 3 ori on top – guest to two other different servers for that), 6 ancient woods) –
If you choose the correct guest servers, you shouldn’t even have to engage in a single fight to get at least 39 ori ores and 24 ancient woods per day.
8 available characters means that you get 312 ori ores and 192 ancient woods. And all this can be earned in less than two hours. Value of ori ores and anc. woods are at 5s each. That’s over 25g per day just in two hours of farming. 10 days you get 250g, 100 days 2500g. (In fact you could just do that and buy ascended mats from it. If all the ascended mats to make 1 ascended piece costs 100g, you could get 25 pieces (for 3 alts i.e., 3×8 = 24 pieces) in 3-4 months, which coincides with my calculation)

More if you do world bosses events you get more karma, dragonite ores, and dungeons/fractals to get empyreal + obishards.

Note #2 gives tremendous advantage over the people who just has one, though ascended gear changes it a little so you still have advantage just not in best gear. No matter how you look at it, having more alts is better than having just one. (Note that the cost is also higher but to combat it look below)
Adventage #3 gives you a mean to strengthen #2.

There were a lot of people who complain about “there is no end game” and “there is nothing to do” or “there is no progression” – why would I play a game when I already max out everything (exotic gear back then) ? ANet created a solution by introducing just one more tier.

Personally 1-2 months for maxing out one character whom you treat as your main and just enjoy the content with him or her isn’t too bad.

Sadly in today world a lot of people in general just want everything without having to earn them and then once given the same people come back and complain that they have nothing to do. I say it’s a vicious cycle.

The point above agreed with Calae on the point that today younger generation lacks the patience to do such thing, sadly it’s the way the world is. (Btw, what are the 3 big RPG titles to release next year? – are they TESO, Titan, Archeage?)

So I think 1-2 months of efficient playtime (3-4 if you’re not efficient) to earn a fully equip character with best gear is an appropriate time.

As much materials as I posted that I have above, it would be the same for me (1-2 years) since I lack the karma, ectos, dragonite ores, empyreal shards to make them. That makes me realize that “hey I’ll just play and not worry too much about it” – the mats in the bank just ensures that maybe after a week, i’ll earn enough shards/ores to get another ascended piece, great, after two more weeks another piece great – and not worry about farming for the mats.

It’s all about changing your perspective and realize that you can never have everything immediately. Just play and enjoy whatever, earning one piece of ascended gear at a time.

will ascended gear be alt-friendly?

Well, the thing is ANet said that Ascended gear is a medium term goal, and that is subjective.

One can define long term for legendary as in it should take about 1 year per legendary.
For ascended gears, I believe it should takes roughly about 10-20 days per piece. 8 pieces (6 armor pieces and 2 weapons) would take about 1-2 months. (Time gated materials for weapons vs armor is slightly different) I would take a guess that ANet would want us to take approximately about 1-2 months to fully equip a character.

So my question to those who say it’s not alt-friendly is: why there is a rush? If you have 8 characters, it would take about 1-2 years for you to equip them all. Just play normally, farm here and there a bit at a time.

If you want to get them all NOW (or when it comes out), the amount of materials required might look a little scary. But if you would take your time, spread out over two years (or a year if you are not patient), you would be surprised that you could gather a lot of it over time.

You can’t eat an elephant in one meal. If you have an account of 8 characters and want to take care of them all, it would take time.

You want a lot of characters fully decked out, time and patience would be involved. On the other hand, the benefit of having 8 alts is tremendous compared to those only have one character.

You can farm 8x as much for once. Yes time is required, but hey it’s your choice to have 8 alts. No one force anyone to have 8 alts.

TL;DR No it is not alt-friendly but you already have the benefits of having 8 alts. Just need patience and play along. Don’t worry about getting them ALL NOW.

If I want to buy / sell something, TP displays all possible options that people are willing to trade earnestly. I don’t want to know if there is a “better” deal by some shady people. I don’t want to be secretly undercut by these people either. If they want to compete, put it on the TP and compete openly.

Here is some rough calculation to equip an entire account with ascended armor and weapons for 8 characters. Note that it is estimated but you’ll need roughly about that amount of materials:

Mithril ores: 16,000
Elder log: 12,500
Iron ores: 14,250
Platinum ores: 6,500
Softwood log: 6,750
Seasoned wood log: 2,500
Hard wood log: 5,000
Silk scrap: 16,500
Thick leather section: 10,750
Wool scrap: 4,500
Cotton scrap: 2,250
Linen scrap: 4,500
Thin leather section: 3,000
Coarse leather section: 1,500
Rugged leather section 3,000

Obsidian shards: 30 per weapon / pieces of armor. 2 weapons + 6 armor pieces = 30 × 8 = 240 shards. 2100 karma per shards, 8 characters = 240 × 8 × 2100 = 4,032,000 karma

10 Crystalline dust per inscription / insignias, 8 × 10 = 80 dust per char, 8 char means 640 piles of crystalline dust

About 10 glob of ectoplasm per pieces, so about 640 Glob of ectoplasms

About 300 Theormocatalytic Reagent per piece: 8 pieces = 2400 per char, 8 char = 19,200 Theormocatalytic reagents. Each one cost 149.6 coppers. So total cost for reagents alone is about 287,23,20 coppers or 287g 23s 20c.

Each piece also cost 20 skill points. 8 × 20 = 160 spare skill points per character

Agony changes

Anthony, this is what I understand from the information I gathered around here:

1. There will be two types of ascended rings/accessories/backpieces
2. One type will have one normal infusion slot (offensive, defensive, utilities)
3. The other type will have two infusion slots including one normal slot and one agony resistance slot
4. The normal slot will take offensive, defensive, and utilities infusions which by themselves might or might not include any agony resistance, which is of now capped at +5 AR
5. The agony resistance slot will take agony resistance infusions (no other stat bonus) and these can be crafted to go up unlimited

I have the following questions then:

1. How would then one obtain the new second type rings/accessories/backpiece beside depending on RNG? Would the Mystic Forge recipe be still the same?

2. If I have a +5 AR infusion, slotted into an infused ring (let’s say after 32 fractal runs, i.e., 2^5 = 32 of the +1 AR infusions needed to craft a +5). And after 64 more runs I can craft a +6 AR infusion. If I put in the +6 Ar, it would mean the +5 AR is destroyed, wasting my first 32 fractal runs. So is it possible to preserve all that work beside having to handicappedly saving infusions for a while?

3. If each end chest only reward one +1 AR infusion, you realize that a person has to run 2^10 = 1024 fractal runs (4x 1024 = 4096 individual fractals) for ONE +10 AR infusion, right?. If one to do 3 full fractal run per day it will take the entire year to get one +10 AR infusion. Though I do realize that you can just get two +5 AR (64 runs) and slot them in two different items to get a total of +10 AR

Also, trading X amount of A to Y amount of B would also be considered illegal trade. Each item A and B has a market equilibrium value in gold to it. The only way to make it a fair trade for both traders is through the legal market itself i.e., the TP. Circumventing it may mean that one of the trade get a better deal out of the trade since the other one might not know the market value of the trade itself, which is a reason why it is illegal. Now whether the person is capable of looking up the prices and compute the value of the trade or not is irrelevant here. The TP exists to protect player from these kind of shady trades which many opportunists WILL exploit.

Here I use the term “legal / illegal” to mean as defined in game by ArenaNet, not in the court of law sense.

It also minimize WTB/WTS spams on the map chat.

No underground trading allowed. If you do underground trading, you take the risk, it’s your own fault. Though can be done with your guildies / friends, which you can do it base on trust, but that’s a different story.

Fix What You Have

We need more hearts on these maps, especially since all events cannot be soloed.

Translation: “all events cannot be soloed” means “For every X, if X is an event, it cannot be soloed.”
That is totally false. To counter this means I need to prove “There exists one event that can be soloed.” Counter example: In queensdale: the event “Collect skale eggs for Assistant Chef Victor” can be easily done by collecting 10 skale eggs. Not to mention there are hundreds more events that can be soloed but this margin is too narrow to contain it. Moving on.

And the lack of ability to complete some events in some maps forces players to move on to a different map, breaking the story immersion and turning the game into simply a grindfest to get to max level and to hell with the story.

You have not established your proposition, that is, 1. how does moving to a different map turn the game into a grindfest [to get to max level]? 2. how is it necessary to grind to get can get to the max level?

1. Moving to a different map is simply done with a click of a button, not a grind. 2. One does not need to grind to get to max level. I’ve leveled up 14 characters to level 80 in less than 3 hours. One can also level up through crafting all the way from level 1 to 80 in less than 1 hour. 3. One can play over the span of months slowly to get to level 80 without a grind.

even when they are fairly busy that doesn’t mean everyone will be happy to join your call for help with some. And the lack of ability to complete some events in some maps forces players to move on to a different map.

This is true. Maybe make some friends? Join a guild?

Adding more hearts isn’t a bad thing.

While true, I think it is better for ANet to put their time to develop more Living story contents or some other in their team devote their time to making the cape or develop an expansion.

it encourages people, in the future, to roll more toons and go through the same maps they’ve already done, knowing there are more hearts they did not do before, keeping things a bit more fresh.

They already have over hundreds of hearts. And please, please don’t tell me if you’ve done them ALL and not reached level 80 because that is not mathematically possible. Also adding more heart doesn’t necessary make it fresh for people. It creates more “job”, hence more grind to complete the maps.

my BL charr ranger has no reason to go to Divinity’s Reach,[…] use the portal there to go to Ebonhawke. So besides the fact that that particular missing bit of info kept me from completing map completion,

You want to have map completion but “have no reason to go to Divinity’s Reach”? Totally irrational! Divinity’s Reach map is a subset of the entire map. In order to complete the entire map, you must complete all parts of it, in particular, Divinity’s Reach is part of it…

Over one year later, as I rolled a different toon, I made one that just happened to take me there and it opened up 4 more maps for me. What sense does that make?

What sense does that make what? Is that just a Rhetorical question? You didn’t know map portalling. Now you do.

So many times I am desperately needing newer gear, and I complete a heart hoping I can get something I need, just to find the heart I completed (say, level 27), has level 28 gear or goodies I can’t even use.

1. If you can’t equip it yet, gain a few levels. It is your level that need fixing, not the hearts. 2. You actually are going to buy non-lv80 karma equipments? Really?

And I deliberately did not add any particular maps or hearts where these things are happening. If Anet is doing their job they will know where these things are at by keeping a list of every vendor (karma or other) on every map, and every event, and will change them accordingly. They don’t pay me to point them out; in fact I have been paying them.

Sound like a self-entitlement statement. Let me tell you. They will never “fix” it, because those heart merchants do not need fixes (on all technicalilty there is none listed here) deal with it.

And please remove the stupid pve stuff from WvW;

What pve stuffs in WvW? Why is whatever that is stupid? How is -what- (that you didn’t even care to explain) keeps queues insanely too long?

Living Story is meant to be temporary. It is a design choice. Whether it is bad or good, it is rather subjective. I think it is good. You might think it is bad. But that is the rule of the game. If you are not there when it happens, it is too bad. You snooze you lose. That said you can still enjoy other contents or upcoming living story content. If you don’t want to play by the rule, simply don’t play it.

They stated that you can play however you want: exploring the world, dungeon completing, fractals, mega boss events, living story, spvp, wvw. But they never said that you will / could earn everything by playing a certain ways. I can run around LA 20 laps per day and pray that an ascended chest will somehow drop from the sky, but that will never happen would it?

If you don’t do the Living story content when it’s there then you miss it. Period. The rules are set, if you don’t want to play it, don’t. If you feel entitled to all the contents that you think you bought you can try to sue ArenaNet for it. Chances are you might get a refund and have your account permanently terminated.

There is an opportunity cost in every action, every choice you make. If you do A, you miss out B. Just like in life. You can do whatever you want. But there is a cost to every single one of your actions.

Well it wouldn’t be very fair for the crafting crowd if they make it so that you can exchange a bunch of badges for the ascended piece considering ascended weapon cost over 90g + 30k karma and 20 skill points to make.

I think they should make it so that if you can obtain, all four components (example: deldrimor blade, deldri hilt, ascended inscription and vision crystal) of the weapons/armor/trinket (through the trading post or craft) you could trade them together with 100,000 honor badges to an NPC to get the ascended weapon of choice.

So to get the (later) complete set of 6 armor pieces and 3 weapons, you just need 900,000 badges and whatever the cost for the pieces is from the TP.

For the vision crystal, if one can’t level up crafting, they can exchange 500 of each bloodstone dust, dragonite ores and empyreal fragments and 20 skill points + 50,000 badges of honor for the Vision Crystal. Or 200,000 badges of honor + 20 skill points if they can’t afford the mats.

Why Karma Nerf ???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Stars.2179

Now, to be fair with the calculation, let me analyze the some method of obtaining them.
Doing daily and monthly will net you: 600 × 365 + 6000 × 12 = 291,000 karma per year.

If you do champ train to get monthly, 100 events x 200 karma x 12 months = 240,000 karma per year

Totaling about 531,000 karma per year = 252 shards

Total obi shards need is 1350 – 2250 shards. Each year you also earn 365+120 = 485 laurels if you do all the daily and monthly.

Each shard is one laurel so you can earn about 252+485 = 736 shards a year only doing monthly and daily and events.

Now, if you also do fractal (and let’s assume that you only do fractal level 20), you’ll earn 63 relics a day (assuming 1 run only). 84 × 365 = 30,660 relics. It costs 15 relics per shard, so with 30,660 relics = 2044 shards.

736+2044 = 2780 shards, well over the necessary amount to of obi shards for your entire account of ascended equipment.

Oh I forgot about the rest of the OTHER materials…

Why Karma Nerf ???

Stars.2179

My advice to you is just play. I have never Karma farmed, have purchased 3 full sets of Karma gear and have over 1,000,000 Karma that I have no clue how to spend at this point as I am not working toward a legendary.

So <shrugs> Good luck.

To fully equip one character with ascended equipment you need
average 3 weapons (30 obi shards per weapon) = 30 × 3 = 90 shards
6 pieces of armor = 30 × 6 = 180 shards
6 customizable stats (with your choice of prefix and suffix, not the laurel) trinkets (30 × 6) = 180 shards

Total : 450 shards / 270 shards (if you just get the berserker trinkets from your pristine fractal relics)

Each shard costs 2100 karma, so you’ll need 567,000 – 945,000 karma per character

If you only have 5 characters, then you’ll need about 2.8 mil to 4.7 mil karma to fully equip your account with all ascended equipment

Guilds are useless ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The represent system is working as intended. It allows people to have multiple guilds if that’s what they choose. If you don’t want your guildies to have other “commitments” then state so when you recruit them. If they don’t represent, then obviously they have broken your guild rule. You are free to kick and ban them from future recruitment.

I’ve been in both guilds that have strict and semi-strict representation rules. Some work, some don’t. If your guild fails to have people represent / stay, then it’s your inability to keep them loyal. I’m sorry but that is human nature to stay with the bigger, stronger and more beneficial guilds / company.

ArenaNet doesn’t want to force people to choose one group of friends over the other, hence the multi guilds and representation system. There are guilds that allow members to represent if they choose, there are guilds that don’t. The guilds make their own choice. Some will flourish, some wither and die off. If a guild dies, the fault lies at the leadership that can’t keep the guild, not at ArenaNet.

I’ve read some of what you wrote. There are some mistakes and some disagreeable points.

Here goes:

“Don’t be scared of other players. They can’t steal your kills, they can’t steal your loot and they can’t steal your gathering nodes. It’s just not possible. Everyone gets rewards for participating in kills and events. Everyone gets to farm the same node…it doesn’t vanish for you until you gather it.”

- It is not quite true here in certain situations. Take the Maw’s pre-events with the Shaman or the Elite guards. Most often, I find players can’t even land enough hits to kill these guys to get credits since they were killed so fast. A few months back, the Great Jungle Wurm meta events, the wurm died before it was even targetable by some. Steal kill is certainly possible in some cases.

“Instead of dying, when you reach zero health you’re placed into a downed state. Your skill bar is replaced by four new skills that allow you to keep fighting. Should you, or someone else in the vicinity, kill a nearby foe, you rally and can get back up.”

- Correction: “Should you, or someone else in the vicinity, kill a nearby foe – that you have tagged, by inflicting a certain unknown threshold of damage -, you rally and can get back up.”

“worlds will be matched up against other worlds, which are at roughly the same skill level”

- Comment: Check out Dragonbrand vs. Magumma vs. Stormbuff Isle this week. The score is reflection of anything but the same skill level.WvW score is more about coverage.

“[concerning PvE] you’ll find that your home world makes no difference at all … The only thing home world selection affects is your WvW experience”

- Comment: a lot of guilds do not accept members from other worlds due to possibility of spying. The social structure of people you play with PvE or anything has a lot of ties to your homeworld.

" the only way to do so [changing your homeworld] at this point, is to buy gems with real money and use them to pay for a world change."

- False. You can delete all your characters and change for free. Also you can only transfer once per 7 days and you cannot participate in your new home world WvW for another 7 days.

“choosing a race neither limits your profession choices, nor does it give you any sort of statistical advantage.”

- True but it affects your jumping puzzle rage. Each race also have unique elite skills that no other race have, though minor and probably no one uses those, but the difference is there

“there is no dedicated healing class in Guild Wars 2”

- True, but some professions heal better than others and some can heal multiple allies, for example elementalist, guardians, and to certain extent mesmer.

“In fact there’s no tank class in Guild Wars 2 either.”

- False. Warrior is a tank class. There is a difference between “every class can tank” vs “there is no class that can tank”. Logical fallacy here.

Confused about stat level scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

If I am a lvl 80 with full exotics in a lvl 20 zone, do I have higher stats than a lvl 80 in the same zone with full fine quality gear?

Yes

Similarly, does a lvl 55 with best-in-slot gear for his level have the same stats as a lvl 80 with full exotics in that lvl 20 zone?

No. The lv 80 with full exotic gear has higher stat that a lv 55 with best gear, in a level 20 zone

And also, does a lvl 20 with full best-in-slot gear for his level have the same stats as the lvl 55 and lvl 80 with BIS gear in the same zone, or do the higher leveled characters have more stats from their levels after their gear scale is calculated?

No, a lv 20 with full best-in-slot gear for his level have lower stats than a lv 55 and a lv 80 with BIS gear in the same zone since the lv 55 and lv 80 guys have more stats from their gears and traits

I can understand ANet’s effort to make the red rings that warn you to be more “visible”, however the new rings are just annoying to me for the following reason: It looks like flames and therefore it confuses me. For example the spider queen will spit poison at you. When the red ring appears. I keep thinking that I am “burning” but in reality i’m not.
One might argue that I would be “burning” in poison if i don’t get out of the way. Spike trap? Burning rings. For its intent, the rings are ok but visually it does confuse some people, like me. I like the old red rings on the ground better, we don’t need more particle effect. Does anyone feel the same way?

MV = PQ, should we unbound soulbounded items?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stars.2179

Stars.2179

Provided that Q (production of items) and M (money supply) stays constant. If we increase the rate money change hands (V), generally price (P) would go down.

For a reasonable cost, if we make it so that SOME soulbounded item like rares and non-karma, non dungeon exotic become non soulbound, people who find these “used” but not needed can sell these on the market place, which increase the rate money change hands. If this equation is true, it would help control some inflation. What does everyone think?

Just an idea
