Farm for cash? Where can you buy these other than a real money store?
And wow @ the rate. So, basically I can run around in trash garbage looking gear until 80, unless I get them as a rare reward for dailies…. or when I do hit 80, those will be useless now, and I will need fine transmutation stones.
Is that correct?
Why do they make it like this? Other than a really blatant cash grab? It’s not too much to ask for a little variation without paying real money. Please do not spout “zone completion” as a viable alternative to some regular, consistent method of getting them because there are only so many zones.
NOTE: The topic length limit is incredibly ridiculous. 45 characters? Nice.
After having my armor look like garbage trash for a really long time, I decided to try to get some of these. I’ve been doing dailies pretty often recently and each time it’s a mystic coin and karma.
What is the % chance to get a transmutation stone as a reward? Was it lowered? I read about people early on having “so many” of them they don’t know what to do with them.
THIS IS INFURIATING.
The space in bags starting out is a complete joke. I’m not a bot. I get this kitten CONSTANTLY when I port to town to sell and it takes SO LONG TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THIS we are usually burned out after.
Literally we set aside time to “sell” and know it’s going to take for fking ever and it’s just the most ridiculous thing and it’s ONLY because of this.
You know you can sell to NPCs right? In fact, for the majority of items on the TP you’d make more money selling to NPCs than on the TP (after factoring tax in). You also don’t have to wait until your bag is full to sell, and you certainly don’t have to “port to town” to sell. You can sell items from anywhere, you only ever have to visit the TP merchant to pick up money/items from the TP.
1) Yes
2) That may be the case on your server, and with the items you’re selling, but it is not my experience.
3) Not being familiar with all DEs and town battles, I’m not going to try to sell in an outpost.2) The TP is not separated by server, it is shared across all servers in each region. All North American servers use the same Trading Post.
3) You don’t have to be in an outpost. You don’t have to find a black lion representative. You don’t have to do anything remotely special. All you have to do is push “o” and bam, you can sell. If you’re selling fast enough to trigger the anti-bot protections, you can’t make even the most remote attempt at claiming it’s somehow “dangerous” to stand still for the 5-10 seconds it would take for you to do routine sales.
2) That’s good to know, most of the items I have compared sell more for the autosell price in the trading post, though.
3) Yes, repeating this again, I do… because I cannot focus with the danger of being attacked during a town or outpost event. Why do I need to be here? because most places in the open world don’t allow you to idle without punishment, especially if you are not familiar with the game.
Anything else? Seems like you completely missed my point about why I need to leave. I know very well I can sell in the middle of nowhere, thing is I don’t want to do that for reasons I’ve stated TWICE now.
Are you also going to address how lazy this is rather than attacking the people pointing out a very obtrusive way of stopping “botters” from functioning?
2) The “auto-sell” price does not account for the 5% posting fee or the 10% transaction fee. While the total sale amount post-transaction fee is reported in the TP interface, there is no spot that shows the true net price. That must be manually calculated taking the post transaction fee amount less the 5% posting fee. Because of this, while it often appears items are selling for more on the TP than to a merchant, this is often not the case. In particular, after approximately level 30, all blue and white equipable items sell for more to merchants than on the TP. After approximately level 40, green items join this group (with extremely limited exception). At around level 76 certain white items become more valuable to the TP as people use them for salvage.
The only items that (instant) sell for more on the TP are crafting materials, salvage items, rares, and exotics. The vast majority of items in the game do not fall into any of these categories.
3) You’re obviously just manufacturing an issue for the sake of having an issue. Instant selling (which is what you’ve explicitly stated is what you are doing) takes at most 3-4 seconds per item. There are extremely few places in this game where it is not safe to stand still for 3-4 seconds. The only reason you “have to” go to LA to sell is because you’ve decided that you have to go to LA to sell. This is simply a non-issue in game. It’s a personal problem that you’ve completely manufactured for yourself.
Thanks, another Anetbot telling me what I am thinking and why I’m doing it. Great.
I have a 37 WAR, wondering if I should just go to it or Guardian. I love melee to death esp burst melee but thief is just falling so short for me right now. The funny part is my 55 mesmer buddy and I leveled until 37 together on my WAR, then i got on my THF and caught up. I never remember feeling this useless.
I realize thief has its rewards in wandering pvp in WvW (hard to encounter if im correct?) but it seems just like one big zerg to me more often than not. WARs seem to go well with the zerg.
sPVP sems like the only place we really shine and it just isn’t my thing 100%. i want versatility I guess? This was so poorly written, im sorry, but it was just my thoughts atm
Boons are horribly designed in this game. The duration is ridiculous for everyone so it’s dependent upon their ability to stack and maximize the damage in the terrible small frame or extending the duration of that boon.
Wondering what’s with all the Thief hate? I thought we’re one of the most OP classes in the game next to Warriors and Guardians?
Thieves are apparently only OP in WvW, a place where bad players can and will often get bursted down by a glass cannon thief
THE END! PERIOD! THE FKING END TO THE OP THIEF DISCUSSION!
I’m so tired of this.
Do you know how often this triggers? No? Then why are you trying to just quantify this as a cooldown on selling and not taking into account:
1) When it’s triggered, how many sells within how many seconds?
2) Is this really an acceptable form of bot control? This seems incredibly lazy to me
3) Going back to #1, waiting 10 seconds is fine, but how long until I’m trapped in the zone again of selling too much? The fact that we don’t know the answers to these questions is pretty absurd, nevermind the laziness of the implementation.
Really didn’t believe people when they said ANet had incredibly defensive fanboys even worse than Blizzard’s but now I believe it. The worst part is all of you seem smart and capable of understanding what I’m saying, you’re just ignoring it.
You are really spending too much time on this issue when you shouldn’t be.
That quote alone tells me a lot about the mentality here, thanks
Hi,
I am level 50 on my thief now and my leveling partner is a mesmer. I was a condi build for most of the levels and it worked really well solo and in the group.
Since getting into the mid 40s though, he does so much damage I can barely get to the mobs before they die. We routinely fight stuff 4-5 levels above us because of this and it’s still an issue sometimes.
So I respecced for a crit build just to get more hits in and feel like I’m doing something. The thing is, from range, my mesmer friend is still making me look awful in the burst department. I’m sure sustained DPS over time on a dummy that doesn’t move or hit anyone, I would do better.
If I C&D to backstab, the mob immediately starts to sprint away. All of our snares are on crazy cooldowns or take too long to cast by the time the mob is engaged to make it useless for me to apply it… just for that, and for it to die really fast anyway.
C&D also misses constantly because of erratic mob behavior (randomly turning, walking in another direction for absolutely no reason) and I really have no idea what to do.
I am D/D and I’m at work so I can’t see my build, but can post the specifics when I get home. I focus on Power, and Precision since I rarely get hit and can dodge properly.
I guess I am asking is this just a leveling thing? What do I have to look forward to in dungeon PVE? From what I can tell it’s not friendly to melee, people seem to post that a lot as well.
Another question I have would be: are mesmers better at burst than we are and to what degree do we top them in DPS, and how?
I’m writing this because there have been times when we get adds, and inevitably I will die because I’m trying to melee and do damage… meanwhile he is at 1200 range doing pretty much more burst than I am and probably DPS. I know on my warrior, I’d be fine but bored as hell.
Confused,
Thanks

Seriously? No one saved the video? I really wish I had seen it because stuff like that screams “embarrassment deletion imminent”. What was the account name of the person who posted the thread? What was their youtube name? Any archives people know of where we can find this stuff if no one has it?
This thread ABSOLUTELY needs to be reposted in some form and put on display for people who whine about this class.

Hey Arenanet, remember what happened to Diablo III? Remember it well. You’re next if you keep it up.
Peace.
I’ll watch a 10 minute video of some guy with a still image talking about his traits I guess. Thanks.
glass are not viable anymore
Where? Under what conditions?
it seems every fking class is trying to spec into some terrible attrition build because there are no traditional roles in this game.
Hi,
I’ve run across a lot of builds on youtube and several other sites. The consensus seems to be dagger/focus is the best. I was wondering what other people’s thoughts on this are as well as what casting rotation do you typically use for a mob? What do you do when you have adds?
If you have another build suggestion or even advice for me about this one, please be very specific if possible. I run into so many “leveling builds” that for some reason magically start at high levels and people roll right into what elite skill to have and where to put 20 freaking traits that I don’t have. I’m really tired of seeing that kinda thing.
I’m new to GW2 and to this class as well so those videos are trash, and really don’t help the new player.
Humbly asking for casting rotation, build affirmation, or even a new build suggestion with INITIAL trait distribution as well as utility skills within the low level range of 1-20.
Thanks!
So by that logic unless you buy an MMO at release you are stuck on a barren trash server? And that’s fair?
Nope. Analogy a farce.
Why are you blaming new playersfor not claiming servers that became full before they purchased the game? The analogy doesn’t work, and is indeed ludicrous.
I’m not blaming anyone. Just stating that if a server is full it will be harder to get into, much like a sold out concert.
Analogy is working as intended.
No, really, it isn’t.
Why are you blaming new playersfor not claiming servers that became full before they purchased the game? The analogy doesn’t work, and is indeed ludicrous.
you should have got your ticket when you first heard about it.
This is an incredibly ludicrous analogy and doesn’t fit at all.
In my personal experience if I may convey this cordially, all servers are dead as a doornail and have no one in the zones.
I also play on Gates of Madness. I really don’t see a population issue. Some zones are less popular, of course. It would be that way regardless of whether the server was full or not. Go ahead and go to another game and hit the mid-level zones. Everyone will be in the capital cities for the most part.
I also played WoW during BC and WotLK (at the peak of population). I had a very hard time finding even a 10 man raiding group during off hours. I was willing to join a new guild, and even farm dkp with them, to be able to raid late-night/ early morning. No luck there. They call it prime time for a reason.
I’m not looking for a ten man raiding group. I played WoW during those times as well. I also ran into multiple people in the zones.
Your experience was different than mine, imagine that.
Let me repost this:
The fact that you have to visit a third party site to find groups for events is incredibly ridiculous for an MMO that has been out this long. Is that tactful enough arenanet?
Yea, the game could use some character wipes and migrations before the paid server transfers start happening. Being forced to pay a fee just so you can play a supposed mmo with other players isn’t exactly fair.
No kidding. I didn’t even think about the monetary aspect of it and how incredibly deceptive it is.
It’s not like they aren’t giving you a way to play on any server you want in your region for free or anything.
Gosh dang those money grubbers.
Can’t imagine how long this wait was for people who started playing earlier.
Last night, I was in Gendarran fields for 20 minutes and ran in to at least 30 different people.
Game is dead.
Gendarran is still low level and it’s a human area AND it’s right by town. It’s actually right after there that things start to thin out.
Lol yep.
Honestly I’m looking for a high pop. MMO. I really don’t care to even debate this topic as no matter what anyone says, THIS is what I’m experiencing.
Any suggestions besides WoW and Star Wars?
Quote.

How about we just get honest activity numbers? Oh wait that will never ever happen.
Title should be “CONFIRMED: Players exist!”

When it states there’s very high population, it’s meant to indicate that there’s a large sum of people that have that World as their home and not how many people are logged in.
Wrong, the sever status changes daily to hourly…it is based on the people logged in NOT the total number of toons on that server
No, it’s actually not wrong. It’s already been stated by ANet that the server population reflects how many accounts have been made in/are housed in that server. Not how many players are online on that server. Only reason for the changes you’re seeing are server transfers.
Yep, this is what I have read from Arena net as well. How many of them quit after 3 months? Probably 40%.

Thanks for your the single incident anecdotal evidence with no server name, really cool guy with sarcastic kitten at the end of his post. kitten off.
I am on “Gates of Madness” which is apparently "very high population.
Beginning zones aren’t that empty, but once you get into the 30s it’s crazy. I feel like I am playing a single player MMO. My mate and I play early mornings US times and afternoons.
God forbid I have free time at lunch and play, because then it really shines. Event event event in harathi hinterlands and no one around.
This game seems good but the population seems to have severely dropped off. I do not believe the reports from the UI telling me its Very High population or Full even. It just can’t be right.
Roam smartly or roll with support as a war and you won’t have this happen.
I’ve seen an ele keep up 25stacks pretty consistently in a dungeon. There’s 0 doubt the class has great utility, but we certainly are lacking a traditional DPS mage class. I guess it doesn’t exist or is a mesmer, much like the “healing” class being a Guardian at best.
Wow a thread discussing exactly what I have on my mind right now.
I realize what elementalists can do in PVP, that’s great. Just great.
Don’t care though. I am playing this game for PVE and light PVP. I feel like I’m playing a RDM from FF11.
Funny you mention that since Rdm (and Nin and Pld) was probably the strongest class in the game due to it’s utility. They couldn’t come near putting out the raw damage of damage dealing classes like Mnk, War or what have you, but who gives a kitten? They could solo crap you couldn’t even begin to with those damage focused classes.
Same deal here, it seems. Elementalist isn’t going to be the go-to class for straight up damage. It’d be broken if they could have balls-to-wall damage on top of all their utility. In contrast, if you want to be a support warrior, you’ll be giving up runes (gotta have soldiers), utilities (need shouts and/or banners), half of your trait points (going right into tactics), and likely stuck with either shield (because you only have shake it off to break stuns/get you out of sticky situations) or warhorn. Such a warrior doesn’t come close to the damage you keep saying they can.
For the ones that can do 20k+ hundred blades, guess what? They either fold like a kitten soaked paper sack when hit or they’re…‘gasp’…skilled! You have to be skilled as a glass cannon to get even survive. For elementalists that go glass, they likely still have utility they can use to get out of bad situations or to support their team.
Basically, a Black Mage Elementalist is not. Don’t expect to melt faces like everyone else because you have support built into your profession. I’d suggest using it or finding another profession.
You love the damage a warrior can do, then go play warrior. See how long you can manage to destroy stuff before the enemy’s HP skyrockets and you’re forced to dodge out of melee range more often (which will lower your damage).
Hey there guy, I do play a warrior. I will destroy lots of crap because I play fighting games at the top level and was in a very high level WoW pvp arena guild years ago. I have 0 doubt that I will be stomping most people in GW2 based on the terrible play I’ve seen broadcast on twitch and youtube.
I know full well what RDMs could do, but it wasn’t fun, and they were never “powerful” in the true sense. The game eliminating the healer class was a bold move, really. I applaud them… however, they really didnt forsee the consequences of it.
I really, really like the idea of not relying on a main healer class and a main tank class(which wasnt really eliminated) but as you can see, what you get from that is a watered down POS for the squishies.
Wow a thread discussing exactly what I have on my mind right now.
I realize what elementalists can do in PVP, that’s great. Just great.
Don’t care though. I am playing this game for PVE and light PVP. I feel like I’m playing a RDM from FF11.
I don’t feel powerful. Ever. My warrior is ~32 and my ele is 28. I routinely die. I’ve followed builds, have very quick twitch reactions due to playing games that require it, and it’s just so mediocre it’s painful.
I sign onto my warrior and stomp anything thats around without worrying about dying.
Playing my ele is so painful but I keep doing it because I keep hearing BOY THE CLASS SURE GETS BETTER LATER ON.
I have no idea what to do other than maybe play a necro. I want to be a caster that isn’t a mesmer and do well in PVE and PVP. Has anyone seen the ele youtube vids out there of grinding?
They seriously are like “OK SO HERES WHAT YOU DO” and then rotate between ~3 “stances” and put a massive amount of effort into killing a trash garbage PVE mob. A warrior or any other class with respectable damage has nowhere near the twitch requirements or squishiness of the ele.
Please do not lecture me about survivability with the CDs you blow in PVP videos you make. I do not care.
This class needs a freaking overhaul bigtime.
Marked an answer for those of you who can’t shut up about the wording of the OP. That definition is what I’m going off of. There’s absolutely no reason to come in and discuss the utter minutia of what is and isn’t a ranger, but rather why most everyone I talk to and everything I read on these forums says they are terrible post shortbow nerf.
I have a ranger already at 20 which is low but am asking anyway, who cares?
Thanks for input though
The class, to me, looked kinda like a Bowazon in Diablo 1 before the short bow 40ms nerf. I have no idea why that happened or if anything was buffed to change things but the bottom line is I really, really want to play this ranged class as… Ranged.
With a bow. doesn’t matter what kind. And do just as well as other ranged classes or god forbid a war with a rifle. You’d think that would be possible.
The name Ranger isn’t indicative of being ranged.
Best contribution to the thread by far, thank you so much for this awesome post! I screenshotted it even
I’ve read a lot of posts, and I mean A LOT. I started last night. Most people who say ranger sucks range from
1) Other classes that haven’t even played it
2) People that have played it early levels then quit
3) Full on level 80 hardcore players who still say it sucks
In between this I find random 80s saying it’s the best class ever. That margin is very small though.
I have never seen more of a consensus on what a joke a class is except for the late 2004-2005 druids in WoW.
The people that do seem to enjoy the class use melee weapons.
What?
The class’ name is indicative of what it should accelerate at, which is ranged. I see almost no one encouraging shortbow or longbow. The axe and horn really don’t count as far as I’m concerned.
What is the point of picking a “ranger” and then grabbing a sword and running up to a mob? Or an axe you throw from not too far away that will bounce off of ANYTHING?
It seems to “work” ok for people but why is this the #1 encouraged method?
