Crystalline Dust is TOO rare

It’s not rare, supply and demand have been driving up the price.

When I made my Bifrost (which requires 750 of them) a few months back, I bought them for a measly 3s each. The demand for them at the time was much lower, compared to what it is today.

How long before we start seeing manipulation conspiracy threads?

A new problem. Player tag clutter.

Sunreva.8714

Yes, first and foremost a HUGE thanks for the culling fix, WvW is now so much better!

But I agree, a new problem appears to be screen clutter. Basically, this stems from the long incognito player names, and the titles.

For the latter, the solution is simple. Simply remove titles from the screens, or give an option that allows us to uncheck it.

For the former…regarding long incognito player names [Crystal Desert Invader, ect), the solution would be either to allow an abbreviation option that players can check off—-if they so desire:

Crystal Desert Invader [GUIL] —-> CD Invader [GUIL]

This example here, by simply abbreviating the Crystal Desert to CD, essentially cuts the clutter for this particular name in half. Now multiple this across a zerg, where there are 40 players, and our screens would become so much more easier on the eyes!

The problem with the broken stealth mechanics go beyond mindless zerg tactics.

But the bad players who have relied on the perma stealth crutch + broken culling will now be forced to do something different.

I literally shelved my thief and stopped playing the class because of how easy it was to survive any outnumbered encounter, while simultaneously using those same broken mechanics to win vs any opponent.

From the mindless CnD+backstab spam, to the blackpowder+heartseeker spam, these are obviously broken due to the current mechanics of stealth, and a change is long overdue. Anyone who says otherwise either has never played a thief or they don’t want to give up their cheese tactics.

CnD? It's fine.

CC and AOE mean squat when the perma-invisible thief simply walks around/avoids the danger zones, and continually CnD’s people in the zerg to remain permanently invisible.

The current problem with culling and the lack of a stealth debuff (even when doing nothing) makes stealth a broken mechanic.

The bads who have come to rely on that crutch for so long will have be forced to try something else that requires a little more strategy than simply mashing the same button over and over.

Also, it’s very likely that the people you kill with the backstab+CnD spam, who simply “walk back, and walk back”, are doing so because you are permanently invisible to them—they can’t see you—due to the culling. The patch will render that technique of yours useless, and they’ll actually be able to fight back.

Hope you have a backup plan.

So I was running around wvw just now, and after fighting several players, and I immediately noticed that the zerker was doing significantly less damage & less consistent damage than it was doing..say…24 hours earlier?

These numbers are with full zerker stats + fury trait

Vs Level 80 Bear #1
1st whirlattack did 800 damage.
2nd whirlattack did 1200 damage.
3rd whirlattack did 6600 damage.

Vs Level 80 Bear #2
1st whirlattack did 3200 damage
2nd whirlattack did 400 (LOL) damage
3rd whirlattack did 1000 damage

Vs Level 80 Bear #3
1st whirlattack did 1300 damage
2nd whirlattack did 5300 damage
3rd whirl attack did 800 damage

This used to consistently hit for 4000-6000 on crits, every pass, weakest whirls were for 2-3k minimum. Also, during the whirl the targets USED to be hit like 4 times (you’d see the numbers quickly spike) but right now, I’ve had whirls with it where it only connects once (like the 400 damage pass, LOL)

Something changed. Anyone else notice this?

Nope, no nerf. RNG is RNG.

Today I spent 4 gold on rares (bought about 16 items) and threw them into the forge. I kept getting so many exotics back (and selling them for gold) that I ended up doing a total of 20 combines because I kept buying more rares.

4 gold got me 20 combines. I didn’t keep track of how many exotics I got, but it was probably around 6 or 8.

Server natives competing with guests

Server natives above all, should not be in competition with any guests.

1. In non-overflows, server natives attempting to join a full map, should automatically BUMP the guests out.

2. In overflows, server natives should have queue priority over guests.

Guests should always be in the back of both these lines.

Guests should only be in competition with other guests, natives should always have priority.

The way it is right now, is a big problem.

Overflows and Guesting

1. Natives should ALWAYS have priority in zones over guests (this means guests should be bumped into an overflow if natives need a spot).

2. If the non-overflow is full, and guests and natives are being put into an overflow, then natives should have priority in the queue to get into the non-overflow.

Guests should ALWAYS be bumped into the back of either of these two lines, natives should always have priority in either case.

I feel sorry for the server natives who are being bumped into overflows because of greedy guesters, which prevents them from being able to complete or participate in these events.

Make it so guests can’t simply switch+log right into a particular zone, but instead they wind up first and foremost in Lions Arch. Then, if they choose to enter a particular zone (queensdale, for instance) they are notified that there is a risk of being bumped into an overflow at any given time (if more natives come to the zone).

1. Natives should have priority above all, over any guests in any zones.
2. Guests should be thrown into queues with each other to get out of the overflows (natives in overflows should still have priority over guests in overflows).

How to Fix zerging in WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Sunreva.8714

Sunreva.8714

You should do a percentage less damage based on the size of the zerg. 50 man zerg means that players within the zerg do 50% less damage (example using arbitrary numbers). Whereas a 25 man zerg does 25% less damage (again, arbitrary numbers). But the scaling damage would make it so that the 25 man zerg stands a better chance against the 50 man zerg, and thus, skill (instead of more players) would play a bigger role in determining which side will win.

Not sure how the mechanics of this could be implemented, or even if its possible.

Whiners need to get away from “it doesnt FEEL legendary to have to grind for gold” argument. Legendary is merely the quality of the item. Really, apply this argument to other quality items (rare, exotic, ascended) and look at how silly it appears:

Those weapons don’t FEEL legendary since I have to grind for gold! Legendary means I should have to complete a LEGENDARY task to get it, not mindlessly grind for gold! This needs to be changed so that they are truly legendary!

Those amulets don’t FEEL ascended when I just buy them off a laurel vendor! Ascended means I should have to surmount a difficult task to obtain it, not mindlessly grind for laurels! This needs to be changed so that they are truly ascended!

Exotic items don’t FEEL exotic when i get them for map completions/from the TP! Also, Exotic means foreign, unusual, and unique! The name exotic isn’t very fitting if everyone is wearing them! This needs to be changed so that they are truly exotic!

Rare items don’t FEEL rare! Rare means something that doesn’t occur frequently, yet you can buy 2 of them after a dungeon run with only 60 tokens! Also, they drop every day for most players! This needs to be changed so that they are truly rare!

There is a ceiling on how high precursor prices will go, eventually there is a threshold where instead of paying 1000 gold (arbitrary number) for it on the TP, it pays to just use the gold for MF attempts.

Some people are lucky and get it after only 50 gold, others are unlucky and it takes 750 gold. If you haven’t gotten it after 1000 gold, either you’re the unluckiest player alive or you’re lying.

From what I’ve seen in fighting condition/confusion mesmers, is that most aren’t running with 2000+ condition. I’ve never been hit by a single stack of confusion for 420 damage. Usually it’s between 250-350(tops) per stack. These numbers are a far cry from 2000 condition.

Also people seem to forget that these all-out confusion mesmers pretty much can’t kill you if you just run away. Their regular attacks do very little damage, and you can just wait out the confusion stacks (they don’t last forever, we’re talking only a few seconds tops).

If you see you have 12 stacks on, you just run away and watch as they dissipate, when you only have 3-4 left, then heal up. Glamour skills are on a huge cooldown, and cry of frustration is on 22cd even with 30 into illusions.

Again, when I play a condition mesmer I find that it’s very effective against inexperienced players, or those who aren’t expecting it (the food should be a giveaway). But against a competent opponent, a confusion mesmer can’t kill them.

Your opinion, mine is that the unbiased mesmers are the ones saying it’s not overpowered.

Mesmer confusion is a cheese build, sorta like d/d backstab thieves, or 100b warriors. These are cheese builds designed to easily win against bad players or those who don’t know how to counter them.

My experience with a confusion memser is essentially what has been repeated here. Bad players will blow themselves up, good players will survive and are much harder to kill. In full rabid gear, essentially the only noteworthy damage that comes out of a confusion mesmer IS confusion. I’ve seen plenty of smart hunters, guardians, thieves, ect just cleanse it off them, forcing me to reapply it. Cry of frustration has a fairly long cooldown even when specced 30 into illusion

So let me get this straight…Randomly on multiple occasions the entire supply of certain precursors randomly all get bought out at the same time…then randomly appear back at significantly high prices which are marginalized by more than the tp tax?

Yeah…I concur nothing suspicious there

The precursors you speak of are in relatively low supply (we’re talking about under 10 for Dusk/Dawn/Legend, ect) for the most part. So no, it’s not suspicious that these very few (yet highly desirable) items eventually get bought up (and are not immediately replenished on the TP) over the course of a few days.

If I could casually (extremely casually) farm 65g in 5 days, then surely there are people who can farm double that or even triple if they are committed, and thus be able to afford a Dusk/Dawn/Legend within a week or two.

The problem here is that no two players are alike, and people farm gold at different paces. Should I sell a mystic weapon for 3g instead of 9g because my higher price discriminates against the players who can’t afford 9g for 1 item because they only play 30 minutes a day/and farm 20 silver an hour? Of course not. Similarly, should the guy with Dusk sell his item for 200g instead of 600g to accommodate the people who can only farm 3g per day? Of course not.

The irony is, if any of these players desperately wanting a certain precursor (say Dusk) were to come into a different precursor (say, the Lover) would you see them sell their item for significantly lower than the lowest sell price? Yeah, right. Sellers want as much as they can get, and buyers want it for as little as they have to spend.

It is normal. It’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

There IS a ceiling that these precursors will eventually reach, because there is a threshold where you’d be better off MF gambling for a fraction of the sell price and will eventually get the item.

While gambling 100 gold might not get you the item, gambling 250 or 500 GREATLY puts the odds in your favor, and eventually your number will come up. No doubt if you’ve gambled 750g (the sell price of that Dusk) and you still haven’t gotten it (or Dawn) yet, then you’re either doing something wrong (gambling with level 50 blues) or are lying about it.

These items are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

The more players acquire wealth, the more players reach 80, the more players find themselves situated and decide to pursue their legendary, the more these legendary-precursors are going to rise in price.

There is zero evidence that these precursors are being manipulated, and unless Arenanet definitively confirms otherwise, there is no reason to believe it.

Virtually ALL desirable items have risen in price, dyes, mystic weapons, mystic coins, globs of ectoplasms, lodestones, ect. I recall around the time this game came out, mystic coins were 2s, unid dyes were 3s, mystic weapons were 3g, and ectoplasms were 12s. No sinister manipulation here, no secret conspiracy to control these items, it’s simply gold inflation + supply/demand. Same thing is happening with precursors, except these items are much much more desirable.

The chief end game for GW2 is grinding for skins, and Legendary weapon skins are the most highly desired.

I thought about selling my Bifrost for 2000 when I crafted it, but then what would be the point? If you’ve managed to pool together the resources and time to make a legendary, you might as well equip the thing and enjoy it.

This is not to say that you wouldn’t enjoy 2000+ gold, but once you get a mountain that size you realize that there’s not really a whole lot you can do with it, at least not as much as you think. Though that’s just me, having personally been at about 750+ gold at my peak and realizing there’s not a whole lot you can do with it once you already have everything you want.

A way to stop precussor manipulation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Sunreva.8714

Simpler solution would be to simply make it so that items that are valued over X amount (arbitrary number, say 250 gold) cannot be relisted for X amount of time (another arbitrary number, say 2 weeks).

If you buy an item for 225 gold, you can relist it immediately if you want to flip it.

If you buy an item for 250+, you can’t relist it for 2 weeks.

This time frame significantly increases the risk that the manipulator would be taking, in that risking a large amount of gold on 1 item (or 10, or whatever) in hopes of flipping it means that their money is essentially “frozen” for a period of time.

Increase these numbers as the price gets higher:

200 gold item, 2 weeks.
300 gold item, 3 weeks.
400 gold item, 4 weeks.
500 gold item, 5 weeks.

Have fun risking 3500 gold on a couple Dawns (@500g each) that you bought today which you can’t relist until March 4th.

The risk in this time is extraordinary, a LOT can happen in this time frame.

What makes me have a “wtf” moment is the following fact : each day that goes by, we have more and more level 80 characters, that means they all have access to level 69-80 rare gear (=gear that can be salvages for ectos). Each day, there should be MORE ectos in the BLTP…. Yet there are less and less.

Not necessarily. The more and more level 80 characters there are, the more that players are looking to obtain ectos for their exotics, Legendary weapons, ect.

Even if they don’t want a legendary but instead another weapon like Vision of the Mist, this item still requires 250 ectoplasms.

You should notice that mystic coins have been skyrocketing as well, this is because those items are also in high demand for legendary weapons / named exotics.

Need help getting my legendary

1. Do clovers first, since these are RNG items and they will get you T6 materials.
2. Farm gold to buy the rest of your T6 materials+lodestones
3. As you are doing 1&2, you should be casually gaining karma+skillpoints.
4. Precursor last.

Once you have the 3 gifts completed, the precursor comes by either farming or tossing items in the forge, either way—you’re done with 1-3.

Gold is relatively easy to farm at about 8g per day through casual play (a few dungeons, salvaging 30 token yellows).

What I personally did is a bit different than these steps here, but I (at the time) wasn’t interested in creating a legendary. Once I hit level 80 and had my exotic gear, there was pretty much no point in keeping gold in the bank, so I begun just tossing it into the forge over the course of a month. I ended up getting Dusk+Dawn back to back in one session, which provided the funds to get Bifrost.

Oh, and make sure to do your dailies and monthly. Each jug will net you 8000 karma (with 50% booster+15% guild booster+5% banner, ect) so this is roughly 320k karma per month.

GRIND, we all were told this game was designed for no grind, that’s wholeheartedly false.

There is no grind, exotic equipment is easily obtainable and getting to level 80 takes minimal effort.

The only “grind” in this game, is for cosmetic items. Legendary weapons, ect. And this is the way it should be. It’s completely optional, and you don’t have to partake in the grind if you don’t want.

3 of us in the middle of no where, away from any action. We see a 3 shadows on the ground approaching us (no character models have loaded yet, no nametags). As the shadows get to about 1200 distance away, the character models finally load in, still no nametags. They proceed to run by us, not realizing that we are enemies (they must of been having the same culling issues). As they run by us, the nametag loads in, and low and behold, they’re enemies.

It was this bad. I dread the thought of this returning.

But can you explain your logic as to why you think having some enemies+some allies load is bad? Small groups can still scout, use stealth when you see an enemy.
Heck id use it if I had it if it meant that randomly appearing zergs couldn’t see me, even with the 12 second limit on it.

Perhaps small groups don’t want to be pigeonholed into being “scout only” duties due to the utterly broken culling system mechanics that we saw in the December trial.

No one is arguing for mechanics that destroy your ability to zerg, please don’t argue for broken culling mechanics that destroy a solo’ers/small group’s ability to function in WvW.

The December culling was horrific, and the thought of it being made permanent is revolting and will essentially further push WvW pvp into more zerging. It’s already there in huge amounts, and players can choose to do it if they wish, let’s not now revert to a system that essentially forces it.

The December trial culling may have helped large 50+ man zergs, but it completely obliterated smaller groups or players who want to roam solo, because for the latter, it made the culling issue exceedingly worse.

Zergs can manage with the current system.

Smaller groups/solo players cannot manage with the December trial culling.

Right now, choosing either playstyle means you won’t have to deal with any significant culling issues. If the mechanics are reverted back to the december trial, then those who choose the latter playstyle are going to be at a HUGE disadvantage because the culling system when encountering a small group of enemies or a solo enemy was utterly broken.

The december trial was awful, please don’t make it permanent.

I’m not sure what positive feedback there was during the december trial……because the culling issue during that time was easily twice as bad as it ever was!

Using WvW jumping puzzle (non external battleground) as a reference, here’s what my friends and I experienced:

((Before the December Trial + The way it is now)) – If you position yourself on the tip of the cliff, as if you’re about to jump into the waterfall, you can see enemies AND their nametags when they come in from below the entrance cavern. Summary: You can see enemies coming in advance, and it wasn’t perfect, but it worked.

((During the December Trial)) – If you positioned yourself on the tip of the cliff, as if you’re about to jump into the waterfall, you COULDN’T see enemies OR their nametags until they were literally jumping up onto the last platform where YOU are standing. Summary: You can’t see enemies coming in advance until they were RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU…it was horrible, absolutely horrible.

This culling issue was exacerbated so badly during the december trial, it was absolutely horrendous. Please do not revert back to that system!

Whoops, forgot the include my motive for this thread, my primary concern is saving time. The 300 gold will be immediately spent as I obtain it if I go that route, and likewise if I go the other route (and farm 1mill karma+200 skill points) they will be immediately spent as well.

Which of those two options could be obtained faster? Farming the 300 gold or farming the karma+sp? I want to choose the path that is easier/faster to do. The end goal is to make a certain legendary, but I have those two paths to choose from, and my particular situation makes it so that I only have to do one or the other

:) Thanks for the response btw

Curious what other player input would be about this situation:

If you had a choice..to either Farm 300gold or Farm 1mil karma AND 200 skill points, which would you rather do? Could the former be accomplished faster than the latter?

Thoughts?

Love how everyone says just buy it, thats the reason people are posting complaints, buying dusk is not an option unless you are extremely rich in game, the fact you think thats a viable option shows how little you know about the issue. Read the 1300 comment post on precursers at the top of this forum. There are hundreds of players that cant obtain a precurser since its a lottery or extremely rich purchase.

If you can save up enough gold for the gift of mastery and twilight, then you can save up for Dusk (as it’s easily half the price of those two gifts).

If you can’t afford to lose money by gambling on the mystic forge, then stop doing that and save the gold. Yes the price is going up, but it’s not going up faster than you can offset it through casual playing. The buy order for Dusk 1 month ago was roughly 430g, today it’s roughly 470g. You can offset this increase over 30 days if you farm 1.3g per day. 2 level 80 characters doing mining/logging runs can net 3g in 30 minutes (and this is repeatable 2x or 3x a day). Not including doing 2-3 quick dungeon runs, or a fractal run. You can easily make 10-20g per day through these techniques, it’s not difficult. Again, if you can farm the materials/gold needed for the gift of twilight and fortune, then you can farm the money for Dusk.

Now get to it!

I threw in approximately 140 rare greatswords over the course of a month (bought supplies/swords in 10 gold intervals). In one sitting I ended up getting a Dawn and Dusk about 5 minutes apart. RNG is RNG.

If you already have 3 of the gifts and all you need in the precursor, you might as well keep tossing them into the MF, you never know when you will hit the jackpot

Downed #3 underwater...bug or op? (pet rez)

I don’t recall the underwater version but I know the land version of pet rez revives your pet. If your pet is then killed after that it shouldn’t continue to rez, if so that’s a bug.

It is a bug and only one that works underwater, but its not gamebreaking unless you are fighting underwater and team doesnt zerg you. Does underwater combat matter as much as fixing land combat?

I disagree..it’s gamebreaking because rangers are quickly discovering how OP this bug really is. Last night I fought a ranger who would only fight NEXT to a body of water, the moment he began to lose, he’d simply run into the water and that was it, he became unkillable. If I were to down him in the water, he simply ressed with his (DEAD) pet, it was really stupid. I’ve noticed this is being heavily abused in sPvP and WvW. 3 days ago in wvw I was with a group of 3 randoms near the enemy tower, a zerg of 12 enemies jumped off the walls and gave chase, the ranger who was with us said “just run guys, I got this, head towards the water”….so we did, and he positioned himself between us and the zerg. After we were all in the water, the ranger went down fairly fast, but he didn’t die. His pets kept reviving him despite him being focused by TWELVE enemies. As this was going on, we kept making our way eastward towards the opposite embankment, where a zerg of ours was nearby. He simply kept reviving himself over and over in the water, and was impossible to kill. While this trick worked in our favor (since he was on our team) the mechanics are really dumb and need to be addressed. It seems to be a bug.

My elementalist is too OP. Anyone also bored?

Replace part of your post with (shadowstep, stealth, and steal), and now you’re talking about thieves :p

Except that the extreme mobility of a D/D is also coupled with their insane regeneration/healing, Tankiness, and utility. Whereas thieves by and large lack all that.

Also for what its worth, a well played thief will not be able to outrun or get away from a marginally well-played played D/D. The D/D holds all the cards. Tankiness and heals of a guardian, mobility and movement of a thief, and utility and finesse of a mesmer—-all wrapped in one.

Its broken, and it needs to be addressed.
