I think it’s pretty epic actually. I was wondering – how do we do this as necromancers? I know it’s got something to do with Death Shroud, cos that guy came in here and told us we need to learn to Deathshroud. I think I’m on the right track:

1. Build life force with BiP, dump the bleeds then apply GD, EB
2. Enter DS (it’s important to have the Weakening Shroud trait, this applies 10s weakness and 1×10s bleed)
3. Cast Dark Path
4. While in DS, log out to character select
5. This bit is complicated; you either want to:
a) Log into an existing thief
b) Create a new thief
6. Congrats, you’re now in EZmoad. No need to worry about DS or learning how to use it any more.

Anyone experimenting with DS-centric power/crit builds?

I’ve stuck an extra 20 points in SR because I love the 1.5s+ fear and the 20% extra HP for DS (in addition to my Carrion gear) is pretty great, but has anyone figured out what Jon’s talking about?

I thought for a while that 30pt in DS for the 5s recast plus 5s Fury might prove interesting, but what else would you take with this build and have you tried it? It strikes me that we’ll struggle to combine DS and conditions (well duh) but can it work with power builds at all?

come on chaps, let’s see what we can do!

Ugh. Lots of words, but I’m afraid bleed ticks once per second and therefore sceptre 1 (Blood Curse) has a 5s bleed, which makes the tooltips inaccurate.

Blood is Power ticks 30 times (twice) for a 30s bleed.

Enfeebling Blood ticks 10 times (twice) for a 10s bleed.

Blood Curse ticks 5 times (once) for a 5s bleed. If you add 20% bleed duration it ticks 6 times, because 20% of 5 is 1.

Also, Grasping Dead applies 3 stacks of 7s bleed (7 ticks) and not a single stack of bleed as the tooltip indicates.

Therefore my point stands, the tooltip for Blood Curse and Grasping Dead are wrong, and the sceptre is a significantly better bleed applier than it at first appears. This is the bug I was attempting to highlight.

Sceptre one does three attacks. It is a chain attack – bleed, bleed, poison.

Go to the mists. Remove all your gear and traits. Equip a steady sceptre. Attack once (1 time) with sceptre 1 then dodge backwards to stop autoattack. It will inflict a bleed. That bleed will tick…

FIVE

If a bleed ticks 5 times, then it is a 5 second bleed.

I’m done here, if you can’t test a single stack of bleed without tying yourself in knots I don’t think it’s worth us continuing this discussion. If someone else wishes to test this, please feel free.

seem its hard to understand something that is easy.

scepter 1 = 4s bleed
scepter 2 = 4s bleed
scepter 3= only 2s poison ( no bleed)

seriously go test again without anything on traits. you want i make a video just to show that the description tool is ok? isnt 5s bleed auto atack scepter, jesus just dont put anything on traits and go test it on golem again, im testing again now and is clear like water. scepter auto atack is just 4s bleed base duration where are you get those 5s?

I tested it an hour ago. Sceptre 1 does 3 attacks. First is a 5s bleed, second is a 5s bleed, and the third is a 2s poison. Count the bleed ticks.

How many bleed ticks do you count from one single application of the first sceptre attack? I count 5. 5 ticks means a 5 second duration as it ticks at the end of each complete second.

This is without traits, sigils, runes, armour or anything other than a single steady sceptre.

Now please count the ticks.

Also, they do stack and work correctly (feel free to test this in the mists) but I prefer Withering Precision anyways :P

seriously a guy that say this ridiculous stuff is telling me how to play Necro class?

will say again scepter auto atack is a chain, 1s is a 4s bleed (yes is a 4s bleed…LOL), the 2n is too a 4s bleed and 3s is only poison dont do any bleed.

tooltip is wrong? like is something really hard to test on golems…..pelase stop say false inflormation, the tool discription is 100% correct

and combos? yah i can stack quick bleeds on golem like almost 20bleeds isntant but i dont want to be on melee range that is the point of be a ranged condition

if you want some credebility start to test something before say things that are 100% wrong….

I tested it a while ago when I noticed the 3 bleeds from Grasping Dead. However, I just gave up 5 minutes of my time to hop into the mists and prove you wrong. The following tests were performed on test golems with no armour, steady weapons and no sigils:

Sceptre 1 is 5s bleed, 2s poison. 5 bleed ticks, 2 poison ticks.

Sceptre 2 is 3×7s bleed. 21 ticks from one cast.

The order in which you stack bleeds depends on range. I gave the most typical example of a necro in sPvP in a zerg heading towards a zerg. BiP is 1200 range and GD is 1140 (240 radius plus 900 starting range). Lead with BiP, and GD when you’re in range. If there’s a warrior you think is going to peel off and engage, please feel free to drop GD first. Your call.

I’m not going to stoop to insults here, but please do test what you’re suggesting I haven’t tested before accusing me of not testing that which I claim to be true. It’ll end badly.

EDIT: The tooltip is definitely wrong. At 43 damage a tick it suggests I’ll do 172 damage over 4 seconds. When I test a single cast of sceptre 1, it ticks 5 times doing a total of 205 over 5 seconds.

Mastering DS? Excuse me? What’s to master? What on earth do you think us Necros have been doing since BWE1?

The top necro players from Paradigm etc. are all saying similar things re: bugs, balance and design. I appreciate we might not have the same godlike holistic view of the design you’ve created here Jon, but there’s a serious shortage of people who think the necro is fine and any issues are a result of L2P deficit.

I don’t believe I’ve ever said this to a developer before, but if you could provide video proof of someone utilising DS to devastating effect I’d be more than happy to accept your statement as relevant/accurate. The “good PvP” videos of necros dried up immediately after BWE2 and the DS HP/LF nerf.

I have no idea what the hell he’s talking about, which is fine by me as it’s apparent from his post that he doesn’t have a clue either.

There’s nothing to master about DS; you activate it for a fear, to absorb damage or to use an ability (lifeblast(ROFFLES)/dark path/life transfer).

Hi.

Welp, I was on holiday while the last week of discussion and the red post from Mr Peters appeared, and found myself unable to log in. Pity, I had a load of bugs I wanted to report which I remembered from launch but thankfully everyone else got that covered. Top work everyone!

Right, onto the topic in hand. Firstly, let’s start with a few disclaimer-type comments which hopefully will give the rest of this post a little perspective. I like ArenaNet, I love GW2 and I have no end of respect for the game design and launch of my favourite game of all time so far, GW2. Hurrah!

Now, onto the slightly less cheery stuff.

I believe Mr Jon Peters to have fibbed to us.

Firstly, there’s just no way on this earth that anyone who has any sort of QA testing at all could be unaware of the majority of bugs and balance issues currently affecting the necro. You’d need maybe 20 minutes of one person’s time to test each of our minor/lesser traits, and the obvious stuff will stand out like a sore thumb. 20% more damage at 50% health actually being 10%, greater marks not enlarging the actual area of effect or trigger areas for certain marks and not being unblockable?

No way those aren’t all known about already. The bug thread only has a few non-obvious bugs in it – like the Reaper’s Mark/Reaper’s Protection bug – and it’s only those that I could believe for even a second ANet would be unaware of.

Secondly, even with all our bugs fixed (and buffing our trait-abilities like Last Gasp and Weakening Shroud) we’re still very, evry much the bottom of the pile balance-wise. Our traits are a mess, our power-based weapons deal sod all damage and our one remaining tPvP-viable build (conditionmancer) is inferior to any other condition-based spec/class apart from our unique and rather wonderful Plague Signet ability.

This is also immediately apparent to anyone with any sort of necro playtime.

In short gentlemen, ArenaNet know how screwed we are. They know how buggy we are, they know how weak we are in PvP, and they know about the 25-stack bleed limitations causing us medal issues in dynamic events. The simple truth is that they’re really, really busy with revenue-critical stuff at the moment (login issues, haxin, botting and real money trade) and haven’t been able to look at our problems just yet.

This brings me to the fib – I don’t like the fact we’re being fibbed to, but I accept it’s better to tell a white lie (OH YOU GUISE FOUND BUG/BALANCE ISSUES WITH NECROS? DO TELL) than have the playerbase kick off.

I for one will be rolling an engi until Necro gets the love it needs; my recommendation is you save your time and effort until after the Necro balance patches start rolling in – I believe ArenaNet will fix the Necro in the long term (I sincerely believe in them both as developers and designers), but the fact they haven’t already is a good indicator that resources are a little stretched right now.
