Cos I’m not sure if it’s the 11 June patch, or the end of the month patch.

Very interested in the necro getting more interesting trait choices, especially those 25 point minors which are dull and (generally) ineffective.

Hey Spritus!

The Rift is being developed on PC and by PC gamers, so yes, it’ll work on PC! The quesiton there is if it’ll work on peasant boxes (consoles).

There are a number of third party drivers being developed which will allow the Rift to work with games even where the developer hasn’t coded any support in. These third party drivers don’t work with all games, but there’s a good chance someone will make it work with GW2.

So far I’ve only seen FPS games adapted for use with the Rift, but there’s every chance an MMO/RTS could work if you’re content with not seeing form the character’s POV.

[BUG]Hemophilia trait does not work

Hey there, welcome to the necro forums.

I believe it does work, but bear in mind that bleed duration (like all durations) is capped at +100%, and anything beyond this will not have any effect. The only exception to this is the sceptre trait in curses, which can push it beyond that.

Try removing all armour and traits apart from Haemophilia, and try again. Should be 36s per bleed.

Minions are fine in the right situation. PvE without AoE, sPvP vs players with no clue (or no AoE), WvW when roaming vs clueless players.

The problem is, they perform the same in the hands of an expert compared to their performance in the hands of a clueless newb. Summon, attack your target and hope for the best.

Their active abilities are mediocre and cannot compare to full blood utilities; epidemic, BiP, CB, SW are all far, far more powerful than a minion plus weak passive.

However, this game is about your personal experience. IF you’re happy to run with sub-par utility slots, or even if you find them to be on an equal footing with the main necro utilities, more power to you.

PErsonally, I can’t abide the AI.

I’ve been maining a condition necro with Terror lately.

Can’t say I give many kittens about Melandru. Let’s be reasonable here – CB will entirely counter and quite probably kill anyone using Lyssa’s 6 run elite bonus, so I figure it’s fair enough there are rune combos we struggle with.

Are all of you really this disappointed in the game? Is it all that bad? I really like playing Guild Wars 2, and I enjoy the game tremendously. So, when I see a thread called ‘The “Thank You Devs” thread’, and I feel like I want to post on the thread, I write a ‘Thank You’.
And then I see a whole bunch of players airing criticism in the same thread. Are all these players really this disappointed with the game? So disappointed they can’t utter a simple “Thanks”? And if they really, deep down, are THAT sad about it, why are they playing?
Logically, if you can’t find some reason to be thankful for what the developers of the game you are actively playing do every day, you should stop playing. Just quit the game, find one that makes you happy to play.
Because playing Guild Wars 2 makes me happy. Doesn’t it make you happy? Stop playing. Does it? Say thank you, or don’t. Just don’t post criticism instead. It’s weird. Post criticism in other threads. Because that’s what most other threads are for.

Love the game, enjoy the class.

I do not like the way the devs have been operating since launch. I don’t like their inconsistent comms (half the stuff we find out about is in informal chats in SotG ffs), I don’t like the rate at which they’re addressing bugs and I think their understanding of balancing is terribad.

I think the thing which really annoyed me most was weapon switch in DS. One day it was a recommended tactic and part of necro balance, then it bugs out and ANet decide it’s better like that.

Inconsistency. ANet bleat on about “not promising anything in case we can’t deliver it”, but the reality is they are still inconsistent in delivering required change.

Fix the broken kitten, talk to us, explain your design choices and get a dialogue going.

Yeah, burning doesn’t fit with the theme of a necro, and tbh I’d much rather have vigor or decent auto attack axe damage. Or even a ranged power weapon. Or anything actually.

Or, just… fix some of our bugs? Could we have 3 bug fixes instead of access to 1 condition please? Please?

Thanks for the nerfs in BWE1/2/3. Thanks for gutting our class mechanic, and giving bugger all thought to the placing of our major traits in our speccing. Thank you for giving us hope by asking for the bug tracker to be continued, and then doing kitten all with the information we worked to give you.

Thank you for the bugs which have been in since release. Thank you for ignoring our pleas for help. Thanks for ignoring us when we found new bugs like downed HP and DS, until our threads grew so massive they threatened to block out the sun. Thank you for our pet AI, kittened and failure ridden though it may be. Thank you for not giving us vigor, for the internal cooldowns on so many of our traits, and for the broken tooltips.

Thank you for making our class mechanic a detriment to our performance. Thank you for limiting access to rabid gear at launch. Thank you for the condition stack limit, and thank you for the sparse comments you grace us with when you visit out subform.

I dunno, I would like Cond/Tough/Heal. I think Tough/Heal/Cond is a poor choice. Tough/heal should be minors IMO.

Well of Blood scales well with healing – but nothing else worth talking about does, unless I missed some patch notes. Anyone? AFAIK only regen and WEll of Blood scale even reasonably well.

The question you’ve gotta ask yourself here, is why was this fixed now?

As far as I can tell it was fixed on the whim of a developer. The ANet apologists have been citing the same old spiel about how “it’s a company, they have POW and agreed deadlines and OMG it’s such a complex thing to code an MMO”, yet when a dev is inclined to do so it’s sorted almost instantly.

And the next logical question is – why haven’t other bugs been fixed?

Aas an aside, if ANet are anything like us, they hold a database with values (ability specifics, HP etc.) which is compiled into a binary or .dat files when they create a new version of the game… so the idea that it takes more than 10 minutes to change a value and 4-6 hours to compile is utterly bonkers.

That’s how I’d build it anyway. Nice Oracle DB with all the games values in, then have all teh hardcoded crap as an executable which simply calls the values held in the .dat. Means you can change stuff in seconds, set it to compile then get on with something else.

Could you also look at the related trait, chill of death? It procs in the next hit after target hits 15% HP, not 25% as described.

My chillomancer pvt build will get ressurected if these get fixed. I will also buy you cake.

I’m amazed people don’t use fastcast – you’ll be a better player when you learn to use it. Honestly and for true. Makes the size of the projected marks irrelevant.

Anyway, 8s of poison from traversal is pointless in ways that lend new meaning to the phrase.

I don’t understand why they can’t fix stuff.

I mean, surely all this kitten is held in a simple DB to facilitate and control change. Should just be a case of looking up the entry for (eg) the focus ability, and taking 20% off the cooldown for the ability variant when it’s traited.

I’m lost for words. I had such high hopes for this “bug fix” patch, and instead we got the business end of a mouldy broom handle.

Disclaimer: I’m a conditionmancer, and I’d like to see both this and Special Pizza cut to 20%. Pizza is such a no-brainer for me in PvE and PvP.

I tested in LA. Dagger and empty offhand. Cast epidemic for a 15s timer, ran using LS, then turned around, turned off LS and selected QT, ran back for 15s, exactly the same place.

Perhaps in the mist this is true, but in WvW and LA I tested it and it’s confirmed to be 25% movement boost exactly like Signet of the Locust. I tested it when I wrote my post.

It wouldn’t be the first time that something works in sPvP but not in PvE/WvW; focus trait for example.

Good grief guys, test a bit before you QQ.

MH dagger with the Quickening Thirst gives a 25% movement speed increase. You can test this with a friend who has a 25% movement speed debuff, or use soemthing to time how far you can run with QT vs LS.

EDIT: Just tested, still 25% with MH dagger.

Also, I was DD/DF for quite some time and this trait still sucked compared to the alternatives (20pts BM with WH and SW, or SotL).

flow – if you’re condition damage, then sceptre 2 followed by dagger 5 will apply more conditions than staff. However, staff is important in all builds and I rather assumed it’d be his offweapon regardless.

The key with AoE condition levelling is AoE bleeds and epidemic… sceptre/dagger and staff is king of that for us necros, which lends itself to levelling very well.

And race does matter. The Asuran Pain Invertor (confusion AND retal) makes AoE levelling a breeze. The Sylvari roots are massively important (in WvW and some PvE).

“Best” is such a lazy term.

The simplest single target killer we have is dagger with minions for support. Can play while distracted and not die most of the time.

The fastest single target killer and the second best AoE leveller is dagger with full wells for support.

The third fastest single target killer BUT the single best AOE’r (which is important when leveling) is condi specced with sceptre/dagger.

“Best” is such a subjective term to throw around.

Very pithy, but please redo the macro with steps.

STEPS.

Because if Willy is behind the mountain on the back path to keep, and I’m on the stairs at the central keep having hopped off the ledge, I can port through the mountain. I can also port back up onto the keep ledge, which is a massive advantage.

So the correct meme would’ve just been “steps”. It’s a tragedy, it really is.

Interestin tests.

Temple of Storms – cannot port onto gate ledge easily. Can port onto ledge below stairs on either side of gate capture zone. Is there a trick to the ledge over gate?

That Norn Map – can tele onto the wooden walkways provided you’re not standing on a large rock at the time. Can tele from directly underneath, or slightly to either side. Can tele to the wooden platform at Raven, but only if NOT directly underneath.

Winning wurm strategy on That Norn Map – place Wurm on wooden platform from raven. Port up to raven, fight, and as soon as CD is up place Wurm where he was. You can now guard raven, cast marks from the ledge, jump down and port back up, or fight at raven and have an easy escape. Very, very interesting tactical play.

Temple of Storms is a bit trickier. Found two neatish tricks:

At 10:00ish, I set Willy near to the vital capture point. If he dies, there is an enemy down there. IF he doesn’t die, he’ll interrupt their channel. At 08:30, you can use it to port a good portion of the distance there from gate.

For the rest of the match, Willy sat on top of the ledge overlooking gate.

Come on necros, let’s see what you can come up with when playing with Willy.

Forum trolls and thieves are depressingly easy to predict.

To the other, less feckless contributers:

The dodge thing might be the problem – dodging through marks causes them to detonate harmlessly, and when they do take a hit or get a significant amount of bleeds stacked, they just purge the lot in stealth.

Hmm. Then of course this build does do horrible things to guards/eles/people with Lyssa as well as condition classes. I’ve been watching a SD thief in spectator mode, and it’s amazin.

I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more of this in the coming months, both in build and forum posts.

I can teleport vertically to about 50% of places. Experiment with it yourself, if you can’t get to place nromally then it’s out of bounds, but ledges with stairs somewhere in the vicinity are fine, even if the stairs are 5000+ away and the ledge is 1199 away.

I think it’s like the pet pathing. Some things our pets get stuck on – well, some things we get stuck on when porting.

Follow up: Found a ledge. Walked towards it casting Wurm until I could cast it. Steps wer a long way away (much more than 1200 distance in walking). Could port onto it.

Hmm. IT’s the insane cleansing rate as much as the targetting – sceptre 2, dagger 5, staff 2/3/4/5 are all AoE, plus I have bleed on switch and MoB on dodge.

I’m hitting, I’m applying lots of bleeds, but every time that danged thief vanishes, they all go away.

I don’t struggle with other thieves – mostly a balanced lot – but the 0/30/20/20 build is wrecking me, and I can’t work it out.

I thought that might be the case, too. But in 2) and 3), walking woudl take a good 20 seconds; you’d have to walk around the impassible fence, or around the impassible mountain.

I’ve been arsing around with a weird build (terror, carrion, 0/10/20/10/30) which I’m very muich enjoying in tPVP/sPVP.

I’ve recently started experimenting with Flesh Wurm, as he gives a nice tidy 10 LF (11 when traited) plus does 200dps (if he hits), and gives a port for when things get freaky.

I wish I could figure out the pattern to his permissable teleports. The tournament map this week is Forest of Nilfel, and I’m getting some WEIRD results. I’ve found:

1) At keep, where the two ledges are – you can’t port back up using wurm. I’ve put him on the very lip of the edge, I’ve put him in the middle of the platform and I’ve put him before the steps. No dice, no how.

2) If you place him behind and to the left or right of keep, in the paths that sweep up the back, you can port through the cliff. Literally a lifesaver.

3) If he’s placed on the final set of steps to the front part of keep, you can port through the mountain.

4) in the mists, you can port up to most ledges using him. I experimented on the large stairs, and was able to port up 2 fligths at once – significantly further than the ledge I can’t port onto at Keep.

So.. anyone worked it out yet? He’s buggy as kitten, but he’s consitently buggy. There’s gotta be a pattern here.

I’ve tried all of those things – AFAIK, a 0/30/20/20 SD thief has a kittenload of condition removal, and I can’t keep them bleeding (let alone chilled) long enough to do anything.

I use my AoEs extensively. I use my marks, I spread them out and I cast them early then dodge between them to minimise the CD, forcing the thief to come to me and trigger them.

I don’t stand still.

I do use DS extensively. I’ve been a necro since BWE1. I know the AoE hits them, but do remember condi necros don’t do much damage with lifetransfer.

daydream – the thieves I’m having difficulty with are NOT the ones who got their burst nerfed. I’m talking SD, 0/30/20/20, heavy on the port, stealth and autoattack damage.

Yeah, I figured a few folks would turn up who just accuse me of being “a bad”.

I play reasonably well, I’m not an epic player by any means but for some reason the only class I regularly struggle with is a thief. I don’t want people to stand still, I’m happy facing classes with cleanses which will (or can) kill me.

The problem I’ve got is with those classes whose cleanse and mobility makes my spec/class very, very difficult to win with.

I’m happy to accept I’m not a pr0 – I’ve got a wife, kids, and a fairly heavy duty job so I don’t get to spend as much time playing as some. Perhaps those same thieves could explain what a condition necro is supposed to do vs a SD thief with this many cleanses and ports?

Like, explain it to me. I’m using every ability and hitting them square with them – I’m dodging at what I beleive to be the right time (SD doesn’t burst like DD does AFAIK) and I’ve got a solid build with a decent amount of tankiness. Tell me what I’m doing wrong.

See, that’s sort of what I mean. Fighting a mesmer, guardian, warrior, engineer, necro, ranger… all fun. Some harder than others, but they’re all fun.

Fighting a good thief is no fun at all. You keep having to hit nearest target to lock on, they’re blinking all over the place (the newer builds, I think it’s S/something, especially port-happy it seems) and it’s a chore.

It’s just annoying. Constantly fighting the GUI to keep the target locked, constantly having to re-apply conditions thanks to cleanse on stealth/port/whatever it is that’s doing it.

I know, I’m going to get an army of people saying “OMG U R TEH BAD” and “L2P, thief is fine, I play lots of other classes and blah”, but what do people think?

I’ve got a LOT of condition application mechanisms, but I can’t get a decent thief dead even when I’m at the top of my game.

spoj – given the SR, BM and DM (assuming 2k toughness) are identical, why is the SR fine but BM and DM not?

Spite – Might on hit below 25% HP. Pretty useless, as 25% HP is 4-6khp and most of us would be desperately trying to avoid taking another hit at that point, or you’d be healing. Even if it wasn’t the case, that’s still only a single stack of might, which compares poorly with other classes.

Curses – 2% increase in damager per condition. Power damage only.

Death Magic – 5% of toughness as power. Power damage only. Dull. Assuming 2k toughness, that’s 100 power.

Blood Magic – 100 power if 90% HP or more (tooltip is wrong). Power only, dull.

Soul Reaping – 100 power if LF is 60% (?) or more. Power only, dull.

Where’s the love for conditionmancers? Where, more to the point, is the variety?

Apollo – I agree CTD is better, but:

CTD affects all weapon damage and utility damage – staff DS1 does more damage than axe DS1, however…

AT affects only axe damage and axe cooldown, BUT AT affects DS1 when using axe.

DS1 with staff and CTD and enemy health below 50% does roughly the same damage as DS1 with axe and CTD.

I think I might be able to help you understand what the problem is.

It’s not how the elementalist’s mobility compares to anyone else; it’s about the fact that elementalists can disengage safely and reliably at a time of their choosing, and are too difficult to kill.

Now either everyone elses experience of Elementalists stems from the fact that Elementalists are just plain better players by their very nature, or that there is a balance issue which needs to be addressed.

You’re wasting your time comparing Elementalist and Warrior abilities, the same way I’d be if I compared Necro mobility to Thief mobility. ANet have a design in mind, they have made their decisions and are enacting them in a few days.

I took some of your suggestions because they were mathematically better.
At the same time, I think you’re underrating the 50% increase in Siphon Life. Every time you hit an opponent with any non-condition ability, you deal some bonus damage. This means you’re always leeching. You’re boosting this healing and the bonus damage by 50%. Also, it affects your Dagger 2, surprisingly. It’s the best way to get heals.

Let’s look at how many heals we’re getting per 10 seconds (CD of DS) with our 275 HP.
Deathly Invigoration heals for 355. Regen heals for 164 per second.
164*10 + 355 = 1995 per 10 seconds.
This is not including all the Siphon Life + Dagger 2.

Looking at other healing abilities:
Dagger Mastery brings Life Siphon down to ~10 seconds, but your enemies can dodge.
Vampiric Precision relies on crits, and you need to crit 7 times at least.
Vampiric Master… minions… you know this one… :/

Mmm. I did forget Dagger 2! Silly me. Must’ve been tired.

I make it about 2.4khp total inc all siphoning and traits for a single cast of Dagger 2, and 800hp every 30s from BM 5 points, and assuming an attack rate of 0.5s about 90hp/s from the passive on hit.

I’ve experimented with that, and not found the investment worthwhile. If you’re making it work, that’s cool! I massively prefer 30/25/0/0/15 (with PVT gear and knights trinkets) or 30/15/25/0/0 (Full PVT gear, no knights).

Tomrorow I’m trialling 30/10/0/0/30 for DS stability stomps, but I dunno how that’ll go.

I didn’t take into account broken pieces of armor. If it’s a bug, I think it’s silly if we have to work around it, don’t you think? IMO, kind of irrelevant since you should repair.

VoC runes bug out at some random point – it might be damage, it might not be. However, simply repairing them doesn’t fix them. You’ve gotta strip down and re-equip.

Oh, and RoV… well, there’s a problem with those. Sometimes (when they’re damaged? not sure exactly) they stop proccing – I test for the proc cessation by casting my heal – if it fails to proc the hit on heal effect, then I know the 5% chance to hit on heal (2 rune bonus) is borked.

The way to fix the RoV bug is to remove and replace 5 armour pieces to reset the 2, 4 and 6 set bonuses.

Without getting the 4 rune bonus, how can you tell when the rune 2 bonus si bugged and no longer proccing?
