The numbers of people who think dhuum+terror is overpowered vs those who don’t isn’t significant, it’s that for the most part both sides of the debate have been polite and considerate of the other point of view.
So, congrats on not having a knee-jerk “OMG L2P” reaction like other class forums did when the subject of balance was brought up. You’re great!
Has anyone worked out what causes these to bug out and stop granting the 2/4/6 rune bonuses?
I test after I port, repair and zone (as in, port between points in the same zone, repair my armour or move between zones using port or gates) and quite often it gets “bugged” and stops granting the heal-on-next-hit.
So… anyone worked it out? I’ve had it bug out when porting, when reppping and when zoning. I’m at a loss, and it’s a serious PIT to strip down to nothin and rekit.
IF the heal-on-next-hit doesn’t proc, then the 6 sigil mist and heal when attacked bonuses won’t proc either. This is seriously annoying.
Can’t decide bewtween fear/conditions, rampagers or power.

Flumek, it’s only while in DS, so it’ll only really affect LB and DS4. The others don’t benefit from crits. Therefore your statement is MUST be multiplicative for balance reasons doesn’t stand.

New Grandmaster trait – Deathly Perception: You have a 50% greater critical chance while in Death Shroud.
What this is, is NOT a fixed +50% crit chance while youre in DS. Its meant as a 50% increas in crit , of what u already have. Warriors have a similiar trait for 50 crit increase to stunned foes and it it works in that way.
Example
glass canon with 50% crit chance goes into DS. 50% of 50% = 25% meaning his crit chance in DS is 50% + 25% = 75%a soldier amulet tank with 20% crit chance goes into DS. 50% of 20% = 10%
his final crit in DS = 20% + 10% = 30%Basically a *1,5 multiplier of what % u already have.

You don’t know how ANet have decided to work this out, and pretending you do is silly. What’s even sillier is pretending you know for sure that this change is for real.
Fury is +20% crit, and that’s a flat additive 20%, not multiplicative.
Lots of variety in build choices will become available, but not sure the wall could dump my spectral walk off, especially as it will now continue functioning in DS.
Smart enemies will begin to learn to fear the wall (small pun) after a few bad encounters, and many may be able to avoid it.

Nice idea, but… fear makes them run away from you, not from the source of the fear. So you’d get two ticks.

What you really want is a player in the middle of two necros who cast wall… then fear once.
Spectral Grasp is looking more appealing, that’s for sure. Wall, pull, fear, back over wall, anotehr fear, DS fear and then staff fear.
If you’ve been playing since BWE1, you’ve heard it before. Wait and see.
TBH, I’m expecting worse than nothing at this point – HP not fixed, our classes changes pale in comparison to other already powerful class changes and some new bugs which will screw us over in ways we have yet to imagine.
I believe it was JP who suggested weapon swapping was an integral part of DS and he didn’t want to touch the meta because people hadn’t “mastered DS”, so I think I’ll take his suggestions about upcoming patches or anything else really with a 4 ton delivery of salt.
And our ranger chums have a solid point too. Never, ever, believe the hype.
(disclaimer: I love this game, think necros are borderline OP in 1v1 and play every day, but I don’t trust devs in this game one jot)

It’s time chap, we need an update. An ETA, a confirmation of who’s looking at it, or an explanation of root cause.
Last time I had to cross post and post to reddit to get an official response. Please don’t make me do this again, it’s pretty dull.
Sigh. Nope, false hope.
Was rock steady for 30 minutes in the middle of the peak lag time, then it scrweed up again.
Good news. I’m no longer lagging. I’m totally, 100%, utterly lag free.
Despite having the same symptoms as a lot of other players, I no longer have any problems at all. I even know what did it, even if I don’t know why.
I bought a Netgear N300 (DGN2200v3) router to use instead of my talktalk contract issued router. I figured I was sick of all the wifi dropouts from the tt router so I bought my own.
When I swap the old one back in, the problem goes away. I’m working through the settings now to try and work out what the issue actually was. I’m perfectly happy for someone from ANet to get in touch and help me understand teh cause of the problem, assuming they think this information may be useful.
So – Ashley – if you want to help me work through the cause of this issue in the hopes of a solution for everyone else, drop me a PM. If not, I’ll assume you’re not of the opinion my experience is relevant and I’ll get on with enjoying the game you guys made.

In a different thread Ashley said they no longer needed reports, and had no ETA on a fix. It’s been “passed over”, which could mean anything really.
Do NOT hold your breath. The last “lag thread” went a month between replies.
Personally, I’m considering askign for a refund as it’s not playable.
Right Khally, and the way you can tell someone cares is if they ignore you for a month? That’s what happened with the long term lag thread before this sudden increase of massive lagspikes.
I’m not exaggerating here you know – the game is literally unplayable from 7pm to 11pm, with constant heavy lag, 3-5s lag spikes, and 30s lag spikes which turn into d/cs.
This isn’t just WvW, it’s all other areas, at all times, between those hours. I can’t do a world boss ebcause I d/c halfway through, and if I don’t d/c by some fluke (if I arrive at the end) I can only pray I can hit him once to tag him for the reward. Quite often I’m suddenly dead, with no warning at all.
What I’m asking for is for the product I paid money for to work. I accept software has glitches (I’m a tech analyst for a power firm, I get problems happen because I spend most of my day fixing them) but this is non-functional.
When a product or service is non-functional, at least in the UK, I’m entitled to ask for a refund. I do not want to ask for a refund because I really like this game, but if I have no other choice I’ll get my money back and move on.
So, in short, unless you’ve found this game to be utterly unplayable in all instances, all zones, WvW, PvE and sPvP, no… you’ve not felt our “pain”.

I will be asking for a refund if we don’t get communication and a solution in a timely fashion, as I imagine a good number of my fellow players will be. While I can appreciate you may not be able to wave a magic wand, I’ve paid for a product which has (through no fault of my own) ceased to function.

It’s utterly unplayable for me now. If anything, worse than it was yesterday. I get perhaps 10s of reasonable gameplay, then it stops responding and eventually d/cs.
It’s madness.
How does one go about getting a refund? I’ve seen ancient threads on related lag issue, and I’ve raised a private ticket. If I don’t get a response on either, I think I might get my money back and head off.

Several players have lag issues since the update and can’t play. We seem to be lacking any sort of official acknowledgement. I accept that this callout merits an infraction (sorry ANet forum staff) but we’re getting no help on the support forum so I figured it was because someone hadn’t noticed us.

Nuked local.dat, seemed to help. May be because users stopped logging in and demand dropped. No diea really.
Ping sits at 60ms normally, but spikes to 250ms (the highest W7 resource manager will report) regularly. Makes it unplayable.
Talktalk, just bought a new router. May try switching back ot the old router, I can’t see it’s my router causing the issue but I’m out of options as ANet treats lag issues the same way it treats Necromancer bugs.

Epidemic, deathshroud and being one dirtiest ranged casters in the books. So many tricks and traps, PBAoE bleeds and nasty marks.
I do love my necro. I’m happy 1v1’ing pretty much any class or build going (though I still hate stealth-cleansing thieves) and the sheer joy of hitting Corrupt Boon on someone with all the boons is amazing.
Because it has the suffix “-mancer” it has close to a hundred bugs which are painstakingly detailed in a forum thread and ignored by the developers.

I’ve been thinking about a necro heal build based around settlers or apothecary, but…
Well, it sorta sucks if I’m honest. We’ve got MoB and RT for regen, plus the 30s 5s BM regen. None of our 25 point traits affect conditions or healing, and all of our regen abilities require we’re in close promimity to the target (for MoB AoE or RT bounces). WoB may well scale well, but didn’t some guy point out that if you had a 32s cooldown on WoB, you’d be better off with CC assuming you’re casting it on cooldown over 5 minutes and had 3 conditions each time?
Also, if you’re going conditions then you really want to take full advantage with the 1200/900 range (1440 if you consider the edge of our AoE to be the actual staff reach), which rules out MoB or RT.
That leaves you with the 5s/30s BM regen, and that’s… well, it’s crap.
This still hasn’t been fixed?

This changed recently, right? I know the effects stopped when in Lich or Plague, but I would (and will) quite cheerfully swear they worked in DS.
Oh, and re: being bored.
I have a PVT set, a knights set, a rabid set and another rabid set with different runes. This allows me to switch specs when the tedium sets in. Yes most of our condition abilities are AoE, but all that means is we don’t struggle to hit things and often hit five things at once.
I’ve played bunker, retal with power, crit centric lifesteal, power build, melee wells, rabid conditions and a good few other specs. Mr Freeze, Deathhammer, the works. We’ve not got a shortage of available specs if you get bored of ground target stuff.
Warriors have the edge in AoE and single target DPS because they have an ability called “hundred blades”. This, along with their sword spin charge thing, allows them the highest DPS of any class in PvE.
In WvW, tPvP/sPvP and harder content like Lupicus, this is not actually an advantage as players will simply avoid/evade/block the damage and high end PvE bosses will turn melee players into a greasy streak in seconds.
However, in poorly balanced content where mobs can be killed before they do any damage (see: most DEs, CoF P1 and AoE farming) warriors are the king of single and multi target DPS.
In short, if it’s idiot content a child could complete, a warrior is the best class to use. 4 warrior/1 mes groups can clear CoF in 8 minutes.
However, in PvP/WvW especially, they get dodged and torn apart very easily. Necromancers, while struggling to keep conditions applied to a zerg, are solid players in small scale and 1v1 fights. I honestly haven’t lost to a warrior in a 1v1 for months. As a necro, I have good odds vs almost any class/spec/gear in WvW/PvP, and am a worthy contributor to any instance.
Warriors though – kings of what they do.
Enf, pretty sure that effective power is effective power – over a given period of time, less crits doing more damage will do the same damage as more crits doing less damage. Doing less crits with more crit damage is only more damage over time if you can choose when you crit.
Uh, no. I just tested this to confirm, and it transfers one condition to one enemy, and as it bounces twice after the initial hit that makes a total of 3 conditions.
Test performed using BiP and CPC in southsun on those lizard thingies. Started with bleeds/poison, hit one lizard, had poison left over.
Also points in SR for the 15 point major trait.
BM needs the MoB on dodge, and the well cooldown. Well of Suffering is a bit moot, and I tend to keep the third utility slot for movement (WvW) or rez (PvE) or AoE (PvE events).
So WoC, WoP, WoB. That’ll make the well traits worth picking. Avoiding the 25 point talents cos I’ve got no crit and no power, so 100 power ain’t gonna help.
Terror, targeted wells in curses
Larger marks in DM (or prot from wells? that’s 9s of prot…)
MoB on dodge plus well CD from BM
DS ability cooldown and soulmarks. Or perhaps LF decay reduction and soulmarks. Depends how long you wanna stay in DS.
Then focus, sceptre, staff… with geomancy and sigil of corruption.
Question is though – what runes? Undead?
Ideally, I’d like a build which will work for PvE and WvW.
Soul marks. Terror is useful, but MoT means no SM so that’s out.
Settlers.
Well of Blood, Well of Corruption, not sure baout ht eothers.
Hmm.
Sceptre/focus for the regen and boon strip, then staff…
Geomancy. Definitely geomancy.
Anyone been experimenting with these yet?
I’m thinking 0/20/10/20/20 is the way to go, picking up well traits and the usual sceptre/staff combo for weapons.
I suppose the aim would be:
1) Get regenration up 24/7 with excess used while regen not available
2) Use Well of Blood for heal
3) Figure out the optimal rune set.
In terms of sigils, what do people think? This isn’t going to be a crit build, so I guess it’s Geomancy, life or some other non-crit based rune.
Staff is godawful in power builds. Only one ability hits reasonably well, and that’s on a 40s timer. The only time you should be using staff 1 is when you’ve used all the marks you should use (or the one you switched to staff to use) and you’ve got time to kill, or when you positively HAVE to be at 1200 range.
At all other times, staff is terrible in all builds. Sceptre/dagger applies more conditions, axe or dagger does more power damage.
Building “around” staff is a terrible mistake and your build will suck. That’s not to say you shouldn’t use staff, because the condition transfer, AoE fear and bleed/chill/poison are great, but building “around” it is folly.
Spiritus, they’ll be considering it.
Seriously, it’s an unproven technology and they’d need to rework their game engine to get it to function, and then deal with all the attendant issues from that around field of view and other things (they’re very reluctant to change FoV in this game, they feel it changes balance in PvP).
So you won’t get a yes/no, they’ll be keeping an eye on it, but won’t commit to it until it’s gained some traction with consumers.
You’re just gonna have to wait. In the meantime though, I can’t recomend the oculus subform of reddit enough if you’re interested.
