I’ve made a few posts re: bots getting out of hand and other subjects, but I’ve been proven wrong quite roundly after logging in recently.
On Piken Square there are very, very few bots left indeed.
Hats off to ANet, and please pass on my thanks and sincerest apologies.
This is all awesome stuff, I have a few questions I’d like to ask if I may?
a) Is DS underwater at a place you’re happy with? The abilities seem a bit crap, and unless I’m imagining it the animation for attack one is horribly slow.
b) Is Gluttony working?
c) Does putting points in Soul Reaping actually increase the total amount of damage that LF can absorb? Cos it doesn’t feel like it at all, and several people have tested it and found it broken.
I’m a pure power necro with D/D and D/F, so I’m very happy you’re looking at our core mechanic as it’s a bit underwhelming currently.
I just can’t imagine anyone giving up this much of their life for a single weapon in a game.
Bonkers.
Impressive guide, but… meh.
This'll get shut down pretty quickly, but hopefully ANet have a sense of humour.

Oh, sorry, I saw this on reddit but not the mainpage. I apologise.
In my defence I don’t tend to read these forums as we seem to get ignored and we’ve discussed pretty much everything there is to discuss >.<

Traits:
- Parasitic Bond – it doesn’t heal you, it doesn’t increase LF from deaths, it does bugger all.
- Gluttony – I tested this back when BiP gave 20% LF. It gave 20% LF still, so it’s broken. Even if it did work, I’m willing to bet ANet don’t track any fractions of LF, so hey.
- Reanimator
Abilities:
- Poison Cloud, because the poison duration is much less than listed and even when it’s affecting someone it does bugger all damage.
- Spectral Wall, because having a kittene wall which has no appreciable impact on the battle which is seperate to the actual combo field (which is at the caster’s feet) is really silly.
- Spectral Armour – mediocre ability ruined by a 90s cooldown.
So, uh… Right. ANet have held off swinging the banhammer to better understand the mechanisms by which they work etc. etc.
They’re recruited a crack team of bot hunters!
They’ve banned oooh, 10k?
And yet… there’s a guild on Piken Square of pure bots who’ve been botting the same loop now for weeks. Same characters, same names, same guild. Day in and day out. I’m not a “bot hunter”, and nor have I got a great deal of experience in network traffic analysis etc., but I’m starting to doubt ANet’s commitment to bot banning here.
What more could ANet possibly hope to learn from these guys that they haven’t learnt already? I get code is refined and they need to keep up to date on what’s happening, but the external behaviour of these bots is unchanging.
Ban their guild please. Ban the bots. Or give us a really good reason why you’re allowing these guys to make so much money… because at the moment I’m starting to believe the conspiracy nuts in that you chaps are in on it.
Ta,
So, if you are thinking of quitting, what would have to be in the next patch to change your mind?

Your thoughts go in this thread.
30 points in Deathshroud does not give extra 30% increase???

Not hard to test – go to the training golems in heard of the mists and get full life force. Then go back to the main area and stand on the bonfire to the left of the entrance. Count the ticks until you leave DS.
Respec and put 30 points in Soul Reaping. Refill life bar on golems, then stand on the fire. Count the ticks until you leave DS.
Presto.
Is there no karmic exotic jewellry?
Can I not buy anyting other than cooking ingredients?
Heck, can I buy salvage kits with it these days?
I have exotic armour I’m very happy with.
I have exotic weapons I’m happy with.
I don’t have the time to go for any of the legendaries, and they don’t interest me anyway.
So… what do I spend my 129k karma on? I’m open to ideas.
Amazed this thread hasn’t been locked or deleted yet.
Rangers got a red post a few hours/minutes ago telling them there was stuff in the next patch… hopefully that’ll cheer you chaps up a bit
I have a crazy theory about why DS is so borked at the moment. It might be a bug.

Do you think it’s possible that we’re always considered to be under 20% health when in DS?
I ask because all of our x% or less traits, armour and abilities proc when we’re hit in DS. I also ask because it feels like thieves hit me for considerably more when in DS than when out of it.
I don’t have the time to test this today – can anyone else spare a few minutes to test this with a thief/someone with a steady weapon and a health based damage trait?
Ta,
(edited by SupahSpankeh.8452)
Thanks everyone.
Blazer, you keep it l33tuberhax0rpwnface, kk? Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not a special little leetflake.
Is it a bug, or are some thieves legitimately able to re-stealth in less than the 3s duration of the post-stealth debuff?
Just sometimes seems a bit… odd.
EDITED: Hopefully now I’m no longer addressing Arenanet directly and simply asking for communication, this post will be permitted. If not, please let me know exactly which part needs amending so I can trim it down and avoid the banhammer. I’m really hoping it’s not the bit at the end where I ask for communication; that’s what forums are for, surely?
Hi there everyone!
Some of you may know that the necromancer is the buggiest class going, in both terms of bug quantity, bug severity and bug variety. For those who aren’t aware, here’s a post where a game user has catalogued them for ANet.
We’ve suffered these bugs since the BWE, and despite the efforts of They Are Hashes, only a few of them have been fixed. A mod/dev has popped in once to say they’re looking at some fixes, but frankly it’s getting to be a bit of a dissapointment.
Looking past the godawful quality control, and the fact that a single user has a better grasp of their quality control process than the (presumed) professional QA testers they have, what the hell is going on here?
A new bug was discovered today. It is, at least for me, the final straw in waiting patiently for something to be done. We’ve heard bugger all, we had sod all fixes and we’ve had new bugs added to the lists with each patch.
Today’s bug? A minor trait heals the enemy. For every attack we make.
This is the single most ridiculous bug I’ve seen in any game, ever.
We’ve been patient (well, most of us have). We’ve been polite (well, again, most of us have). We’ve ignored the insane situation where players are telling devs what’s broken; I know that 2 million players will notice more than 3 QA testers, but anyone who’s played necro to 80 will know where the bulk of the bugs are. One of our number has given over a not-insignificant amount of his time to catalogue everything that ANet got wrong with our class; both daft balance stuff and actual glitches.
I’m quite happy to accept that bugs happen. I’m quite happy to accept that balance issues emerge during the evolution of the metagame and they can be tricky to fix. There is, however, no excuse for the current state of this class.
Please communicate with us. We’re your player base, and we’re rapidly losing faith.
Chaps, I’ve made an appeal for communication in the main forum. Up to you if you wish to contribute.
Gents – if y’all could keep this bumped and stuff, that might help. It’s time for some answers.
An open letter to a dev regards the current state of the Necromancer class, and the silence thereof.

When are you, Arenanet, going to get this stuff fixed? I’m quite happy to accept that bugs happen. I’m quite happy to accept that balance issues emerge during the evolution of the metagame and they can be tricky to fix. There is, however, no excuse for the current state of this class.

Re-kittening-diculous.
What in the world are they playing at?
Good grief.
This really is taking the kitten now. I get it can be hard to solve bugs (I’m a tech analyst in a power company) but this really is just ridiculous.
This needs a mod/dev response ASAP.
Nobody?
I mean, there are a lot of monsters with a lot of nasty abilities which have coooldowns – has anyone checked to see if these are affected by chill? I mean, for a boss or enemy whose main damage source is an ability, won’t this reduce damage output quite a lot?
What about boss special attacks?
Is it worth bringing heavy, AoE chill to a dungeon and chilling everything?
Does it have an appreciable effect on boss ability cooldowns too?
Yeah… I get that. Thanks though!
Tested, working now. No clue what happened – merch, thank you very much indeed for your time.
Am trying it with 30 SR and 10 in Curses. Not sure if should pick Enfeebling Blood on shroud or Chilling Darkness; either way, I figure 30 points in SR is fine as I can permachill everyone I meet anyway, and I’ve tested Target the Weak and found it to be bugged.
Thoughts?
Anyone?
Target the Weak – 2% per condition – tested in mists on target dummies with steady weapons… I can’t see it working.
Confirmed as a bug?
I’ve switched to Hyrdromancy from Ice. Give it a go.
“weapon swap sigils don’t share cd last patch” – mind explaining this?
I just checked and if Sigil of Ice is on cooldown then Sigil of Hyrdromancy won’t proc.
Target the Weak – experimented with a Steady Dagger in the Mists, and the hit damage dind’t change with 5 conditions on the target dummy.
Any advice?
Question: Does turning off high rez textures reduce the amount of invisible zergs?
I think it does. My main storage array is no slouch (256GB Samsung 830D on Sata III) but it does seem there is a noticeable worsening of invisible characters when high rez textures are enabled.
What do you lot think?
So, I’m rocking a freeze build at the moment:
I vary the wells/abilities depending on the scenario, and switch to ground cast wells when sieging a keep etc. – it’s jolly good fun and extremely effective in 1v1 or chasing runners.
My question is this – do you think given the 110% freeze duration I could drop the other runes and go with Rune of the Ice for 6/6 and the 5% damage bonus? It’d mean more damage and more HP, but 40% less freeze. That’d put me at 70% (I believe ANet round to the nearest .25s for durations) or 75% freeze duration, but I suppose I’d only actually lose 25% (as 110% will be rounded down to 100% I suppose).
(a note on freeze duration sigils – the Major sigil is 20% and works, the superior is 10% and doesn’t… )
What do you chaps think?
EDIT: actualy, after considering rounding and the fact it’ll be 75% (from 70%) instead of 100% (from 110%) I think it’s a no-brainer. Will test and report back.
So I’ve been idly mulling this build.
Given that Target the Weak doesn’t work, and the last 10 points in Curses are therefore questionable (you lose 4% crit and weakness on crit 12.5% of the time if you go only 20 points deep), perhaps it’s worth dropping a few points into another line?
I have tried and enjoyed 20 points in SR (the SA is great), but what about 20 points in Blood Magic? An extra 2khp (which is added to DS too), some healing and perhaps 50% life drain to synergise with daggers and either dagger cooldown reduction or well cooldown reduction?
Thoughts?
@Alamir : If Lich’s casting is interrupted you get a full 180 secs CD?
@Angry Flying Squirrel : (NB0072) Glutttony status updated.
@Fynd : If you post it as a “problem” or “suggestion” i will add it to the list, make the description short please. (I got no time to do it, exams…)don’t forget about
Corrosive Poison Cloud
Does not apply 5 sec Poison;
Does not apply 10 sec weakness;
Both are 2sec, per tickAlso the combo Field is not Poison it is Weakness.
This. It’s awful.
Is Target the Weak working at all?
I mean I know it doesn’t work for condition damage, but I was unable to get a 4-6% increase in the mists using steady weapons on a target with multiple conditions.
I have no idea what you’re on about.
Patch is today (or overnight if you’re in the EU). Chillax.
They mostly come at night?
This really needs bumping.
Bump.
Try this build.
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
Also, dagger does a buttload more damage. Wondering if it might be better to use dagger /focus and axe/dagger?
Indeed it is a bug – but it’s about time we had a bug which worked in our favour. What’d the ratio be? 120:1? Seems fair.
I’m actually REALLY enjoying this build in sPvP. I sort of tried a similar thing when they changed that curses trait to add 1s of chill, but I found it underwhelming so I stopped. However, this is a very well made build.
The one possible thing which I think needs a look is the use of on crit and on swap sigils; the cooldown from on crit stops on swap from happening. I also don’t think it’ll be much use in WvW unless it’s conditions focused; axe has a pitiful range and Epidemic with GD/EB/BiP/PS is by far the best way we have of keeping people off the walls.
On the other hand, in smaller engagements this really shines. Landing SG is very tricky, but it can be done – your target has to be standing on the lip of the wall and not behind it. Then it’ll work.
It’s easy to work out when you can use SG to pull someone off the wall – if you can see their feet, you can do it.
So, Mesmers and Thieves.
Cheers for the advice Khronus – roll a necro then let me know what we’re all doing wrong in a bit more detail. I’d be fascinated.
Narrowly won a single tournament.
Move along, nothing to see here.
lol hahahahah , try that at the tournament see how far u would get
Further than any other class who only used 2 attacks.
Well, he did spin to win once but he was slightly out of range.
