Firezof Arrows ~ Sylvari Ranger {} Hudeeni ~ Norn Mesmer
Ruins of Surmia [KoA]
Oh and save yourselves is one of the best things a guardian has but the trick is to use it just before you run into the combat to give yourself a massive boon boost without all the nasty conditions.
My friend, who also runs a necro absolutely loves Guardians who do this as it gives him a sweet corrupt boon target which he then spreads.
Punch and counterpunch, good players make the most of their skills bad players kitten about OP.
I guess he didn’t realize in the 0.0005 seconds after hitting Save Yourself that he had 12 stacks of confusion on him. Not everyone has the Mind of God, like most mesmers do.
Maybe the pink glow around the heads of the people he was taking the conditions from may have been a little clue?

Yeah but I agree there is absolutely no counter for confusion at all.
L2P
What kind of kitten would attack with 12 stacks of confusion on them? Gaurdians have a ton of ways to clean conditions and the only way to take any damage with confusion on your head is by attacking hence l2p.
Oh and save yourselves is one of the best things a guardian has but the trick is to use it just before you run into the combat to give yourself a massive boon boost without all the nasty conditions.
My favourite Guardian skill for group cleanse is a combo from the light field cleansing blades.

The persons bar shows 3 stacks then you zoom in, so we can’t see how many stacks, also how long did the 12 stacks last? if you got them, confusion stacks fade really quickly anyway.
The guy in the vid continued to attack with the pink glow of pain on his head proving the l2p point people keep making.
There is nothing more amusing than watching a player with a pink glow on their head running around spamming 1, hitting nothing more than themselves.
Confusion is a noob kitten killer.
That is all :p
Actually, there is nothing funnier than flipping confusion back on a Mesmer and watching them kill themselves with it.
Exactly my point, watching a bad player die from confusion is very funny.
Devon has said that they are going to look at improving the system to give wxp for defensive actions, so hopefully soon this guide will we obsolete.
Any condition based build, especially one that applies poison would be a counter to this.

From my experience, it’s more like you are FORCED to win these 1v2, 1v3 situations, cause you can’t even outrun a friggin crippled snail.
You are forced to press on and stick in there, because a guardian can only leave the fight, when all of his opponents got huge stakes stuck through their chests.
You can build a pretty quick Guardian using shouts and the speed buff circle you place on the floor and the greatsword leap attack.
As for thoughts on your build it sounds like an OK build but you only list shortbow what is your secondary, also the ranger short bow does a lot of condition damage and you don’t seem to have any buffs for condi. Personally I have longbow with sigil of earth (oh the bleeds) as my primary and shortbow as my secondary but I run a power, condition dmg ranger.
Looking at your food, you could use healing spring for your condition removal and veggie pizza to boost your condition duration. I use a bear with healing spring, as I then have 2 ways to cleanse.
This is the ranger build I use: http://en.gw2codex.com/build/25067
@ Longtomsilver.8031: By kills I mean actually seeing the person, I’m targeting drop then either dpsing them to death or spiking them. I didn’t mean got a few hits on a guy that somebody else killed.
Most classes excel at certain aspects of WvW and although the ranger isn’t special at one particular thing, I feel the ranger is a very good all rounder and can be pretty useful in most situations.
I just thought that fighting very very hard to get where we are today (in the bottom tier) was funny and also poking fun at people who cry Hax.
I was there when you golem rushed our BL and a lot of people were calling hax but I think it was probably more to do with the large group of players running round with omega golems myself. What upset me about that is it happened so fast and we had so few players that we set-up a final stand at one of our keeps with tons of siege and pulled in players from EB and our guilds and were all ready to destroy you in an epic last stand like we used to do to SF but you guys are no fun like SF you never hit the last tower giving us the chance to massacre you like SF used to, instead you went home
So next time you wipe our Bl would you have the good manners to attack our final tower, so we can kill you all and feel better about our lost keep upgrades please.

Play a Thief… i mean they like, stealth and stuff, and move really fast and and theres lots of threads on the forums to nurf them so they have to be op.
Have you played a thief? They are extremely powerful in WvW and can escape from nearly everything due to their insane stealth abilities as well as their speed (Signet of Shadows and Infiltrator’s Arrow).
I used to be a bit peeved at how as soon as you start to get the better of a thief they use evasion tactics to run away, but now I figured it out I don’t care anymore. I don’t get too upset when players run away, it means I won and can go back to what I was doing. It’s pretty hard to kill somebody with your back turned to them legging it into the distance, so yeah the ability to run away like a wuss is really OP lol.
And yes I’ve played a thief I leveled one to 80 but gave up on them because I didn’t really enjoy playing the class.
If you think any class is OP try playing one and you will soon see exactly what strengths and weaknesses they have.
A lot of people say confusion Mesmers are OP but I can rip them to shreds with my power Mesmer.
Even my mesmer build which I am really happy with and can take on any other class/ build I have come across has a weakness as it is quite squishy. If you can hit me at melee range with couple of good bursts when my evasion skills are on cooldown I drop pretty fast.
When a player complains that another class is OP it’s usually because they have been owned by someone who playes that class well, has a good build and gear and knows the weaknesses of your class.
(edited by TallDan.6350)
All the classes including ranger can be very effective in all aspects of WvW and although rangers are not the best 1v1 class they are far from terrible and can be highly effective and I have also seen some pretty tough 1v1 rangers. I have played sb/lb ranger in wvw a lot and got a lot of kills.
LB I hit from 1500m and my shots pass through you and hit your buddies as well no other class can do this.
SB I kite around and dodge like crazy stacking bleeds.
I used spider and bear as my pets spiders poison and immob and bears can tank for you and help with condi removal.
When it comes to attacking or defending walls LB ranger is boss you can get a lot of kills on people that can’t even hit you.
In small groups the ranger can be a great team member and in large groups you can hang back a little giving out damage but not taking any.
When it comes to soloing camps Rangers are one of the best as you can hide behind your pet and kite the npc’s.
All you need to do is find the strengths of your class and play to them.
This is my experience of actually playing a ranger and my kdr is pretty high, if I’m getting a lot more kills than deaths how can the class be bad?

We as a server have faught long and VERY VERY hard to get where we are.
This made me smile.
If we knew you were so desperate to join us in t8 we could have just asked SF to leave
Ah so now we have found your weakness you all quit because of Haxusations hmmm…
Well then I saw this gom and he was all like haxing cos, he had this sword that was all on fire and when he hit me with it, it like killed me and stuff so he must have been haxing.
Well unless we magic a night crew from somewhere, I think the balance in this matchup may be over for now, we just don’t have the round the clock coverage to deal with it atm. Even at peak times our numbers seem to be dropping off, we haven’t dropped to our SF period minute numbers but we definitely seem to have dipped a lot from our week 1 numbers.
ET was also ranked the lowest server in the game for weeks. ET & FC are blood brothers forged by the glicko ghetto.
I’m sure FC is adopted… My real brother is SF!
Aw kitten naw, you don’t get to claim them! HANDS OFF BIG BRO >:( slapfight
Our family is so dysfunctional we should get counselling.
Where has all the ET gone, did our resident EB troll eat them all?
Score update as requested.
I dislike the commanders that bark orders at people and act as if they are better than everyone else, simply because they have a 100g badge.
.So don’t follow them?
Commander is a rough job, particularly one’s that are trying to lead pugs to glory in which case a portion of followers are probably not on teamspeak, a mix of under level toons, random mix of classes traits that may not be the most optimal for wvw, etc. etc. All this while having a blue TARGET ME Dorito above their heads as the enemy is focusing them.
/respect to all Commanders
I wouldn’t, I was simply answering the Op question: “What else do you think make good and bad commanders?”
@ ET commanders.
Despite seemingly having the lowest WvW population of the 3 servers GoM are night capping, taking over the map while there aren’t many ET or FC online to defend, we need to come up with a counter strategy to this if possible, as all our peak time effort is being overshadowed by a small GoM force late at night.
Please note this is not a kitten complaint about this tactic, just a shout out to our people that we need to counter it. I don’t mean this as an insult to GoM.
I dislike the commanders that bark orders at people and act as if they are better than everyone else, simply because they have a 100g badge.
Also the people who have a tag but don’t really feel entitled to have it, the ones who lack confidence.
A good commander is someone who understands the game and who can remain calm under pressure.
If you can’t handle the mobs, then I suggest you play a little PVE and learn to kill them there.
I’m not saying I can’t handle the mobs, you should read what I wrote before commenting.
I’m starting to get a little annoyed by the trash mobs in WvW. I’ve had quite a few fights ruined by them now. You fight an epic battle against some player and get them down, you head in for the spike only to have them rally off some random Moa that walked into the battle. Or a thief who backstabs random mobs for stealth. Also a lot of players use them to stack effects from runes or necro’s use them to build life force.
Also they slow down movement, we run slowly while in combat and the world has enough running around to make this an issue. So you either run around mobs making the distance further or you risk aggroing them making you slower.
They get in the way and add nothing positive to the game, why do we need herds of moa and packs of random wolves in the warzone. I would be a very happy camper if Anet would consider removing them, I’m not an expert but I think it may even improve game performance as it would free up server resources.
Let me know your thoughts on the issue.
I don’t care if this thread was supposed to be troll or not. I absolutely love WvW it’s my favourite part of GW2. So it has some issues and bugs but the dev’s genuinely seem to care about fixing them and making it even better. /salute Anet
Wouldn’t want to put money on who will take the win this week, even closer than last week, didn’t think it would be possible, great stuff everyone
OMG nerf everything you are all so overpowered, apart from my class though that needs a buff
Yet another thread falls into kittening everyone else’s classes, pah do we really need another one of these threads really, do we, do we?
I agree with Wamgor.9347 so much. I fought an upscaled thief last night who died after a single hit from my scepter beam, she shredded her self to death in a few seconds. Literally moments later I fought a lvl 80 thief who played the d/d stealth class well and he was very hard to hit with any of my attacks, let alone stack confusion on and every time I got a good hit on him he just stealthed away.
There is another thread complaining retaliation is OP another saying stealth ruins the game another saying ele’s are to OP and i’m sure the list goes on. Why not get Anet to nerf the whole game so nobody ever dies, would you be happy then?
Had some epic battles last night /salute to all three servers
Thank You Anet after months of being in the worst tier it now looks like we are in the best one.
Hats off to Warden, Ced, Jugg and your teams last night, that last minute save at AB was the highlight of my night. Can’t believe I was stood behind the inner when it went down and still alive at the end #lucky
@Parktou.4263. Why are you upset with how many people were their group? Most of us like attacking stonemist, I don’t care that so many Fergs attacked us. I for one wouldn’t avoid attacking the castle just because we outnumbered the defenders.
With my mesmer I use bleed as my main condition as it’s more reliable than confusion. Try stacking confusion on an ele who moves too fast or a thief who avoids shatters with stealth or a ranger who has healing spring or any class which has put some good condition removal in it’s build and then tell me confusion is OP.
I tried a condition based glamour type build and the sacrifice of direct damage made it pretty useless against good players.
I have recently started solo roaming and I do it for the challenge. If I’m in your BL it’s because I’m trying to solo camps and disrupt your defenders. I fake attack keeps and towers to make it hard for your defenders to know where our forces are. I take sentries and I look for solo players and small groups to fight to try and better my skills. I’m not there trying to find a group, I’m there trying to contribute to my team. If you see me alone in my BL usually it’s because I’m scouting trying to find your forces so I can tell my team where they are or looking for people who are disrupting my team. I usually engage anyone I find even if they are likely to kill me because I like the fights and don’t mind dying.
I have never come across anyone fighting a boss mob but if I did I would probably just leave them to it. I did fight the giant worm In EB once and a small group of enemy thieves were using it as an opportunity to get a few cheap kills on the upleaveld and squishy players, while they were distracted and it was pretty annoying breaking off from our fun to have to deal with them.
I finally take a score update screenie and someone beats me too it, oh well I may as well post it now
I don’t know what Anet’s plans are for the scoring system but if SF could win by such a big margin, for such a long time and still need a nudge up to get out, I guess we may all be in this matchup for quite some time, especially when you consider how close the scores are.
Well done to FC you guys are putting out some big player numbers this week and also GoM you’re making it a good fight. So close in T8 still could go any way. Come on ET don’t get too comfortable the scores are pretty close and there is still everything to play for.
Loving the matchup this one will run to the wire
I have been solo roaming my new mesmer and been having fun doing it. I don’t think it matters what class you have, they all have good and bad points, you should just pick the one you find most fun.
Just spec some condition removal, a lot of players overlook this wanting more power in their abilities. I sacrifice some things I want in my build in order to remove conditions. IMHO confusion is the least worrying of conditions because I can remove it without taking any damage from it and it puts a really obvious haze effect on your head so you spot it quickly. I find bleeds harder to deal with than confusion because they are dripping away at my health before I deal with them and I don’t always notice them as quickly as I do confusion. But I’m not saying omg nerf bleeds they are OP, because properly specced no conditions are really that much of a problem.
I don’t think trolls or people just being dumb is only a problem for GoM, don’t judge the tactics of a whole server based on a couple of flame rams.
I find WvW amazing fun, I’m a skilled player and have met lots and lots of skilled players. I have good fights all night. All I can say to counter some of your points is; at first it’s confusing and you don’t know what to do but the more you play the more depth you find.
The big draw of WvW for many of the casual players is you don’t have to be skilled to have fun, it’s open and semi sandbox and you get from it what you want. I know that lots of people will read this and say yeah stupid unskilled players they suck etc. but fun is not the exclusive domain of hardcore gamers and not everyone can be the amazing gods of the PC that you guys are.
I have no idea what spvp is like because I got so hooked on WvW that I still haven’t got around to playing it. I’m not going to say anything about which is better because it’s like comparing apples with pears, so you may dislike WvW but don’t look for reasons to say it sucks, if you never took the time to find out why it doesn’t.
@ Atherakhia.4086
I have to disagree on this one. The WvW map design is really well suited to the game and allows for small groups and solo players to contribute to the points, it actually does the opposite and allows players not to run with zergs. I play a lot of WvW and I almost never run as part of a zerg. There is a big map out there full of solo roamers and small groups if you know how to find them. Guerilla tactics behind enemy lines or defending your own borderlands can lead to some epic small scale encounters and also contribute a lot to the team effort. Cutting of the supply routes of a hard point under siege or conversely keeping supply lines open to your own defences is often the key to victory. Often in defence of your own borderlands the more of it you can control the less enemy will arrive. When looking for a BL to join players often look at enemy areas and if they see it turning their colour they know they have a team in there working and will go to join them and a trickle can become a flood. Miss the subtleties of the system and you will lose a lot of points fast.
(edited by TallDan.6350)
Yes agg would be missed as would any large guild if they left.
Yes we have been worrying about GoM more than FC but that is after you took first place and have been more of a threat recently, it’s just normal tactics.
Anyway keep up the love this matchup is epic fun, still love you guys despite being too tall
@ Gilkin: Please don’t leave us, I have been doing a lot of borderlands defence with no commanders to follow and almost no other players on at times, and caps aside you are one of the few commanders I will follow at all, because your fun, don’t be down helps us have fun.
People who say agg are all that ET have are basically talking rubbish we have many fine players and guilds and I don’t run with zergs but have lots of fun and score lots of points for the team.
I love you guys at GoM and and FC both of your servers have many fine players and GoM have some pretty fun tactics which I have had a lot of fun adapting to.
Keep up the good work to all the players in T8, going to start a T8 love fest. I think all 3 of our servers are awesome and won’t listen to anyone who bad mouths any of us :p
I’m from ET and I can tell you SF have had massive numbers for a long time. I never complained about it, I just did my best to defend when they were there and cap when they left. The problem was with the ratings system holding them down and the Dev’s have admitted that there is a problem. Stop being mad at SF for having more players the dev’s have said they are looking into a fix for the system, that will allow servers to move up more easily when they are winning.
And insulting their skill level is stupid yes they have a lot of bad players who just follow the zerg but they also have a lot of good players who know how to fight.
A tactic we used to great effect against their numbers, which often allowed us a win against greater numbers in our BL, was to put a lot of siege at the keep SE of the spawn. It’s easy to get back to if you die, then hold out getting kills and making their job very hard until they start to get bored or give up and move on, then you push them back to their Bl and re-cap.
Driving a large force back and getting minor victories, can be great fun when outnumbered. You may not win the war but you can still enjoy the battles.
Fighting SF has made ET and FC tough, we have had to learn to play outnumbered for a long time and even before the transfers helped us out, After our casuals all abandoned ship the loyalists who stayed to fight, never gave up and always fought to the last man. I hope you can learn from the war with SF as we did, rather than getting mad and blaming SF for having a lot of players.
You will notice that SF have a lot of respect for the other T8 servers even though they outscored us massively every week. This is because we tried hard, fought hard and never surrendered. Don’t complain about what is out of your control adapt and have fun, this is a game after all.
GOM is 90% PvE’rs and it has been holding us back for months. Our population reports as high, but that has nothing to do with our WvW population. Everything we accomplish in WvW is 10x harder.
:
Most of ET is pve focused and I’m sure the same can be said for FC too, a lot of our players are in super adventure box, fractals, fighting bosses and in dungeons, sounds like excuses to me, just saying. I have seen plenty of GoM players in WvW.
Don’t want to start a flame war though. Much respect to GoM and FC this match-up is really fun so far.
From one of ET good luck in T7 SF and to T7 Get ready to fight big zergs all week, SF always start slow on opening night but they have a lot of players, good luck to all you guys in T7 maybe we will join you soon.
Welcome to the battle GoM and good luck to SF give T7 some of the hell you gave us.
Keep up the good fight ET, we finally get to prove that we were right about the rankings system.
To say SF got a free pass is silly they have been scoring more total points than any server in WvW for months, the scoring system just had them trapped and yes they do always start slowly expect a lot of big zergs running you all week T7.
