Honestly though, if you want to have better luck on the chests, you need to put on your MF gear before you open them. I always equip my MF gear before opening any chests (BL, SS, etc) and every time I’ve done that, I get minis, skins, etc.
Magic Find only affects loot dropped by killing mobs, quote from the wiki:

Or you can buy with badges of honor or badges + gold from WvW
You can earn armour with dungeon tokens from completing the dungeons.
You could always farm Orr or Southsun with the karma boost and sell the mats you get for gold and buy it from the Trading Post.
Do area completion, low level areas you will finish faster as the mobs die quickly, harvest every node you see and do your personal story.
Although I didn’t rush my first 2 toons and took my time to enjoy the content, the last 3 I have 80’d, I did just as above and playing a few hours a day it was easy to lvl 80 in under 2 weeks. If you followed this system ruthlessly and didn’t stop to have fun, it would be easy enough to 80 in a week.
I’ve personnaly seen many servers, played against many too, but one thing is sure GH you have the worst community ever from an outside point of view…
Every server has it’s fair share of kittens you shouldn’t lump the whole community together based on what individuals post. Yes there has been insults and bragging but there has also been compliments and positive stuff too.
I’m not usually one to QQ at Anet and I will have to wait to see how this plays out but my initial thoughts are that it is a stupid idea. Take a failing system and fix it by randomizing the matchups, who comes up with this stuff?
Why were you not willing to listen to the community and try a 1 up 1 down system, at least if it had failed you would have got less abuse.
Nah we just started using RoS tactics. More men more win. Seriously, unless you had at least double the numbers of my group, we wiped you guys, I came to believe skill to RoS means numbers.

Well if I was a commander my group would have to be outnumbered 3 to 1 to lose and we would all use dolyak tonics and not bother bringing weapons and anyway my Mum says I’m the bestist player at wubwub so there :P
I declared GH official winner when on sunday night our commander stated in TS3 that he had agreed with riot to leave their borderland and split GH border into two halves.
Leading this to RoS not ticking by 0 points over the night as would have been possible and taking over the lead of the bracket.

i declare gunnars the winner no matter the points… look at the activity on borderlands, were getting double teamed since monday pretty much nonstop. and still dzag got pushed to 3rd and surmia is losing massive rating while gunnars closing in on their ticks. i think we are the best

You can’t attribute Gunnars closing to <5k at one point on RoS to Dz having connectivity issues on 1 map of 4… if noone could get in there then they’d be destroying the borderlands right? Well no they didn’t. We’ve dominated the borderlands in primetime all week, and at one stage at about 10pm last night we held both Bay and Hills in Dz bl.

I don’t think you understand, I’m not sticking up for RoS I’m sticking up for DZ after one of your players claimed you had won this week. Most of the time the borderlands stay the colour of the owner even if some stuff gets capped it doesn’t usually stay that way for long, you really think that losing all those ppt from EB had no effect on the outcome and GH won this week, honestly you’re deluded.
I don’t think anyone won this week, I think the points have been spoiled by game bugs.
I could have just as easily said we are winning because we are actually winning but I think game bugs won this week and the final points mean nothing.
It would be nice if somebody from DZ could clear this up but it does seem on the face of it that they have the worst of the deal.
No the matchup is great the fights are fun, I just take exception to somebody declaring themselves the winner when DZ can’t even play.

All 3 servers get double teamed it’s how WvW works a RoS guy was complaining of the same thing earlier.
I declare disconnects and bugged keeps the winner.
I feel really sorry for DZ they were in second before the bugs and have had the most trouble getting in EB of any server.
RoS and GH have had a free run in the DZ part of the map.
This week’s scores are null and void.
Well I keep my virtues as a panic button, I hit all three and then activate the renewed focus when I’m in trouble.
I mostly play WvW and in those moments where I’m outnumbered and about to die, it has saved my skin more than once.

Double teaming, blobbing, night capping, hackusations and I’m sure somebody must have mentioned AC in this thread, all we need now is somebody to complain about thieves and we have the full house. :P
I wasn’t saying nobody should tick siege in general, I was just responding to people who said they were spending all day ticking siege.
Also I said I agree that despawn times should be longer.
Whenever I pass a bit of siege I always tick it, it’s just people were complaining about sitting in towers all day just to tick sige and I was saying go have some fun instead.
Why spend all this time tickling siege, WvW wins go to the server with the most players/best coverage anyway, so unless you’re in the only evenly balanced matchup in WvW, why not just go and have some fun, as nothing you do will make any difference to the final outcome. Losing a tower is not the end of the world anyway you can always recap them.
If your server is one of the losing ones, you may hold a keep for hours but it will only get pvd after you go to bed and at the end of the week, the largest server will still have won.
I agree that the siege timers should be a little longer but honestly, in the hours you sit in the keep think of all the points you could have scored attacking the enemy keeps or taking camps or killing dolyaks.
Refreshing siege as you pass by is fine but don’t waste hours of your day sitting in a keep just to refresh siege, the game is supposed to be fun after all.
The stealth mechanic was just a bad idea in the first place, I can’t see any way to balance it.
I kill plenty of thieves and can’t remember the last time I lost to one but I also can’t remember the last time I killed a good one, because once they realise they can’t kill me they just use the broken shadow return and drop shadow refuge out of my closing range and disappear off.
The reason that thieves can’t kill me is because any WvW build I make is primarily focused on countering them. I don’t feel the need to specifically counter any of the other classes and didn’t have to lvl 80 a warrior to be able to deal with them, like you have to with thieves. Dealing with thieves may be a learn to play issue and you hear all the time “if you want to deal with thieves you have to roll one and learn the tricks”. but how many times have you seen this on the forums?: “if you want to deal with Guardians/Rangers/Warriors/Eles/Necros you have to roll one and learn the tricks”.
Thief is not OP but it is the ultimate troll class, specced and played right thieves are just downright irritating to play against.
There is no fix for thieves, either you nerf them into the ground and kill a popular class (like they did with Mesmers) or you leave them as is and the rest of the classes find them annoying. I wish they had come up with something better for the thief but the truth is, they put them in the game, it was a bad idea and now we are stuck with them.
In conclusion they can’t really nerf thieves because the main things that cause the problems are core game mechanics, we just are forced to play them ourselves so we can learn them and then spec against them or stick to zerging around.
May i remind us Guardians that we are one of two heavy armor classes the one of them 2 that has the best damage mitigating skills. if we are saying that fights can not be melee what does that say about the game, I do use scepter but not to sound like i’m having a go but i use it when i’m being lazy. Yes i am always lazy when i fight GL(lupi)lol. but come on i run a balanced zerker soldiers mix and melee anywhere i go.
A Guardian with a scepter is just a let down to any party. Come on if a mob moves you lose 100% of your burst dmg and that burst dmg is low at best mace auto attack can hit for more in a single attack than what smite hits for in total.
You my friend are a lost cause.
true, against people who know the hammer or gs inside out, these weapons aren’t efficient at all solo.

Funny you should say that but I have just switched to Scepter/Staff and think it may be our weapon set with the most options.
There are quite a few situations where not having a ranged option puts you at a disadvantage and the scepter is our only ranged weapon (the range on staff means it operates more like a melee weapon).
How many times have you seen a player trying to face tank a boss while standing in red circles only for them to go down and need a rez? Sometimes there is no option but to back off and using scepter in these situations means you can still dish dmg while at a distance.
You sell the benefit of staff but against a single target especially a static one like most mobs the scepter actually dishes out a lot more dmg than a staff.
I have recently been running with staff as main and scepter/focus as my secondary mainly because staff is an excellent aoe weapon against groups and works well with an AH build, but with a melee weapon in the secondary I have less options.
A full bunker guardian with hammer or mace may offer more heals to the group but will be dealing a lot less dmg and less might stacks, I’m not saying either option is better or worse but the scepter is a very underrated weapon.
TBH, I see no reason for siege despawn timers. If it’s outside or on walls, it’ll get destroyed every 10 minutes anyway, if it isn’t I see no reason why it should despawn anyway.
Go on youtube and search “DTD Famous Siege Forest”
And then you will know why siege despawns.
I know some people have trouble picking the real mesmer from the clones and although this is fairly obvious to those who know, I’ll say it anyway. Clones don’t strafe or dodge roll and the real mesmer’s auto attack is much faster than the clones, clones attack slowly and only stand still or run forward.
When I first encountered Mesmers I found them difficult to deal with so assuming they were an OP class after a few of my friends said as much, I decided to roll one, after learning the class I can tell you they aren’t as boss as people think. Against inexperienced players they are totally OP but against a player who has played a mesmer they are much less of a problem, but like thieves I would say mesmers are one of the 2 classes it really helps if you have played yourself, for you to learn how to deal with them.
Are the Dolyak runes overkill on toughness and regen and, if so, what would you recommend? Defensive rune categories preferred.
I would go with soldier runes, the regen on Dolyak isn’t very good and with soldier you have condition removal on shouts. Plus soldier cost a lot less, I have recently changed from Dolyak to Soldier I wish I had this advice before I wasted the money.
To me this build seems overkill on survivability. I run an Altruistic Healing build with knights armour and berserker accessories and it kicks the kitten out of all the other builds I have tried.
I play a lot of WvW where you have to be tough and even with all the berserker stats I still find I’m usually the last one standing.
In dungeons where you have 4 other people close by to buff, AH makes you survivable while berserker accessories allows you to contribute dps to the fight.
I have run builds that use all the different trait lines and I think 30pts in Valor with AH is by far the best trait line. Don’t forget as well as the 300 toughness you also get + 30% crit dmg.
On your elite, if you are spending 20pts on Virtues, you may want to try renewed focus as it allows you to pop your virtues and then instantly get the passive effects back.
Staff is very good against mesmers as it hits 5 targets aoe and shreds their illusions, killing the actual mesmer can be a bit harder with staff but switch to a dps weapon, I am using hammer atm, to hit the mesmer and switch back to staff when he has clones out.
This double team talk is silly. The server fielding the lowest numbers gets hit more, if anything the problem has been DZ and GH have had more players show up (at most of the times I have been on this weekend).
RoS got hit badly last week as they didn’t have enough players and DZ had good weekend numbers but trailed off in the week. If anyone still lives under the misconception that WvW is about skill and ability leading to a victory they should maybe go take some maths lessons.
Alliances in WvW don’t work. It’s hard enough getting your own people to work together and then to expect to co-ordinate with one of your opponents at the same time, I would give a cookie to anyone who could achieve this.
Please keep the matchup talk about the fights and the fun we are all the same.
DZ and GH please don’t think all of RoS are the same. I for one am not represented by these views. I enjoy fighting both of your servers and don’t care for QQ.

The biggest problem with WvW is all the constant moaning.
I play a small group and solo roaming guardian and I use scepter focus, the main benefit to the focus block is that you can move while using it.
It is also very useful when fighting burst classes like thief or warrior, I always start the fight with scepter focus, the blocks stuns and aoe are really good at disrupting their initial combos and then switch to GS for the dps, also the focus block is very useful for using your heal to mitigate interrupts.
The downside to the shield for me is that it only blocks ranged attacks, very easy to gap close through it.
The knockback on the shield however is epic, and as a knockback tool it is very good or as a counter to a Ranger barrage. I just feel especially for small group and solo play the focus block is more useful, especially as you can attack while using it.
In addition to the things already said; a fully upgraded camp does take small roaming groups a little longer to cap and gives the defenders a little more time to respond.
A good player can solo a regular camp but a fully upgraded one is more difficult as the time it takes increases and the npc’s will respawn before you have finished.
It takes less players to defend an upgraded camp as you have more npc support.
Cool something to do with stealth that annoys thieves for a change, my day just got a little brighter :p

Only a WvW player gets invited to go do some PvE boss fights and out of 4 bosses only has 1 of the waypoints that get pinged in party chat (this was me yesterday).
Only a WvW player has 100% map completion in the BL and EB but still only has 50% total map completion (me again).
Getting stuck on siege that’s just been built or getting stuck on a AC and only way to get out of it is to WP.
There is a work around for the getting stuck on AC just unequip and re-equip your weapon.
The new fall damage bug is annoying me the most atm.
Please quit taking away all the cool features of my class (ele). I already feel like a kitten guardian with less armor, less hp and less damage.
The fact that you just said this just makes it clear A net cant balance worth kitten. your mist form in downed state is kittening kitten And should not let you enter keeps. Yeah I kittening said it.
Then Mesmers shouldn’t be able to confuse + change of places + clones + dmg too in downed state.

Mesmer downed state is bugged anyway, half the time it moves you such a short distance that the original spike still gets you.
I can’t imagine that mistform through gates was an intended mechanic though, probably a bug.
Description for pure of voice is bad then if it works on you as well as allies. Try contemplation of purity and you won’t struggle with necro’s so much anymore and trust me your build would be a lot more epic with some more condition removal.
A big amount of the damage you are taking in the clip is from conditions give my suggestions a try I’m pretty certain you will like the results.

Just a little advice, you’re not running any active condition removal and in the clip you are struggling with conditions most of the time, I would swap your heal for the signet of resolve, which gives a bigger heal and also has passive condition removal, I would also advise changing retreat to contemplation of purity, especially if you are running save yourselves as this will convert all your conditions into boons.
Nothing better than getting hit by a necro’s boon corruption only to then turn all your conditions back into boons or removing the conditions from your allies then instantly turning them into boons.
Yeah my Guardian is so OP against stupid people, who don’t know how to play, maybe they should add an IQ test to the character selection screen and give a buff to these people :p
I have a good roaming build on my Guardian but they are not very common. Guardians can be quite mobile but you have to use shouts and greatsword leap to do it and sacrifice a little utility in your slot skills, which you can alway swap around in a group situation.
Most people build guardians as a support class but you don’t have to, there’s plenty of flexibility.
I feel safer solo roaming on my Guardian because of the survivability but Rangers solo camps more easily because pets can tank the npc’s while you kite.
Also I made my ranger quite glass to get the dps up, which makes him better for small groups and large groups where as my guardian is balanced for roaming.
The build of my guardian is a thief’s nightmare and was setup with solo roaming and small groups in mind. In these situations you encounter a lot of thieves and so you need a build to counter them.
The flexibility in the GW2 system means you can spec and play most of the classes the way you want to and having 5 lvl 80 toons all with original builds, I would say just pick the class you enjoy playing and spec it to deal with the way you like to play. If you get dropped too quickly by thieves tank your spec a little, if you end up in long fights and have trouble finishing off players go a bit more dps or add in some condition dmg.
This will just favour the highest population/winning server and make it harder for the struggling ones. The team with the most players will find it easier to hold it’s own BL and the team with the least players will find it harder. I don’t like the idea of giving a buff to the team that is winning, as it will just exaggerate any imbalance in the matchup.
Anet have already said they are working on this and we may have a change by the end of this month.

Let me address your concern there. It is not the fact that a server dominates so handily, it is the fact it happens for weeks on end, and the Glicko system you use does not allow for shifts in population like we are seeing happen in T1 fast enough. A simple 1up 1 down system would, I believe suit everyone, in any tier, in any region, and definately avoid any stale matchups as servers would be more mobile.
Without going into specifics as we are still testing out some of the changes, we are looking to address the problems with our implementation of Glicko, especially the fact that matchups are not varying enough to provide accurate ranking data.
Is there any plan for any temporary solution while you are working on this? If not is there any ETA or an approximation of when we will see any changes? Our servers are still losing players as we speak, and we of course would like to bring back some good news to give people hope again.
The things we are working in should be going live in the next few weeks, if all goes well on the testing front. Thus temporary solutions are not worth the time they would take. I can’t give a definite timeline, because things can change, but hopefully you will see changes by the end of the month.

The consensus is that rangers and engi’s are bad in WvW but any good Ranger or Engi will tell you a different story.
I love rangers that spec full bunker and think that it makes them good in WvW, then list off the number of specs that “don’t count because they’re OP” that beat them 1v1. In group fights they’re a non-issue, and in zergs they simply don’t fill niches that are needed.
All rangers should say they’re bad, because they need a lot of alterations, especially to utilities/spirits.

Oh I see what I didn’t understand, zerker gear is the best choice for a condition based class. You are such a good player you can kill zergs by yourself and guardian is a really bad support class in large groups. Yeah my tiny little brain, I must try to broaden my experience so I can fully understand your genius.
Aoe has a 5 player cap limit but you think you can kill a zerg in seconds, you roam a necro in zerker gear and you think guardians are worse than warriors in large groups, maybe you should go play a less complicated game.
