Intel i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz | 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 ram | Gigabyte R9 280X 3GB (14.2)
Win 8 Pro 64bit
Yes that is a very good upgrade, you will eventually want to get 8GB ram. Since you got a motherboard that’s capable of overclocking, look up on how to do it and you should be able to get 4.2GHz once you buy an aftermarket heatsink (like a Coolermaster Hyper 212).
PS- I’m still using DDR2 memory on my system and it’s more than fine.
As of recent, fps during WvWvW has gone down over the past couple patches, now I can barely get above 20 fps in heavy fights and running AMD OD and GPU-Z at the same time, I see the GPU isn’t going above 25% usage while certain CPU cores are over 90%. Before a few patches ago I didn’t have any problems in WvW so each patch it seems to get worse.
Having orbs = meaningless.
Right… take a look at the icon on your buff bar next time you get an orb. 3x orb = 15% to health pool, 150 points to every stat on your character, you’ll have much more power, crit, toughness, vitality.
Well considering I often only use warlock (16s with 20% staff reduction), warden, disenchanter and defender, the others don’t concern me and I’m more of a shatter build anyways.
Didn’t even realize people used whirlpool, that thing is so big it’s obvious to avoid. Then again I don’t remember the last time I fought players in the water.
You mean like that? The following week we got stomped by Blackgate because neither of us had the orb from the start.
bump
WvW seems much more fun in this manner.
Yup I wear prec/tough/cond, for trinklets I throw in vitality/power/critdmg.
These changes doesn’t bother me, the only thing that does is the chaos storm cooldown increase, like that isn’t long enough already.
I don’t rely heavily on my phantasms to do the work.
Oh look, I can do lots of damage too
See what happens when each server has an orb? It is a MUCH closer fight as the lead has been changing hands in the past couple days, rather than when one server having all 3 orbs completely dominating the other 2.
I say remove the orb buff or change it to something else.
Hard to say, I like pistol/pistol the most for thief, it’s more challenging but can get the job done especially if you can utilize stealth+#1+#3 attack properly.
For all of you that has paid attention to what devs has been posting, you know well that they’ve changed this from the data they’ve been monitoring. PW does hit hard, there are tpvp premades that contains thieves specifically for PW as part of their team strategy. Now that it’s down 15%, it’s on par with other high damage attacks.
A half-decent condition Necro is the only thing I fear on my Thief.
Seriously? Only thing a condition necro is good is against a tank spec guardian, condition necro in tpvp won’t get far with the constant condition cleansing, but the boon stripping/converting is what can kill bunker guardians.
Thieves are still pretty tough even when I have 29K+ hp and 2K toughness.
Your really trying to say the Staff auto attack hits hard?
Yes with my power/crit spec necro staff autohit can do close to 2K(crit) per shot.
I wouldn’t touch mainhand dagger with a 44 1/2 foot pole.
LOL how strange, pressed too deep?
I’m also using a Gigabyte MB (MA785G-US2H), I like them.
Thieves yes, mesmer no.
Once Anet fixes the renderring issue with thieves’ chained stealth, they shouldn’t be a problem. In the first couple weeks of launch, there wasn’t a renderring issue and I was able to fight and deal with every thief I encountered but now I end up getting hit and killed by invisible thieves that I can’t fight back. As for mesmers, AOE’s kills their clones and illusions.
RIght now IMO bunker guardians and bunker elementalist (yes bunker) are more of a pain than any other class atm.
^ Magnificat, do you know what brand motherboard you’re using? ASRock is known for that issue and occasionally Biostar.
As for the links further up, disabling Aero and desktop themes DOES help, I do it on my laptop which helps GW2 run better and I did it on my PC when playing SWTOR.
And yes it is quite odd how this game runs like crap on cutting edge hardware, I’m still using a motherboard that has PCI-e x16 1.1 (note 3.0 is out on the market now) and using DDR2 800MHz ram when there’s 1866MHz DDR3. The game runs like a champ for me, how strange. Under normal circumstances I’d keep up with cutting edge hardware like I have been since the mid 90’s but money issues has kept me from upgrading this almost 2 year old PC- maybe it’s a good thing this time.
The more tpvp I run, the more guardian premades I encounter, and most of them being defense spec’d. So my necro can kill them, but it still takes forever, they are a freaking PITA.
You kidding right?
A Stealth that lasts 3 – 4 seconds is a huge issue?
Not to mention the long cool down on it, and their dagger skill 5 is a high int skill that actually requires you to HIT a target, meaning spam it twice because you missed the first time that means no more int for heartseeker spam. Most of the time a thief activates their heal stealth is to run away
You’re missing the entire point of this discussion, it’s not the 3-4 second stealth being the issue, it’s being able to stealth over and over again taking advantage of the poor game renderring/culling, appearing to be permanently stealthed. Once you’re being attacked and you can’t see anyone, you’ll understand.
Practicing some more on my thief, I was able to utilize more stealth by the combo field (pistol #5 + dagger #2 + dagger #1 for backstab) without blowing any stealth utility cooldowns. But my most effective is with dual pistols; stealth+haste+150% damage and pistol #1, pistol #3, swap to sword/pistol, leap to target and pistol whip.
Well im running a amd fx990 mobo with a fx 6100 cpu 3.5 ghz with a gtx 670 i get 80-92 fps in pve then in wvwvw battles with 25+ people i get 10 fps the wierd thing is when im in the big wvw battles ill have all settings on high and be at 10 fps then i turn them all to low and it stays at 10 fps? please explain that to me
The game moves its resources to the CPU during heavy loads, I don’t know why they coded it this way because most GPU’s these days are capable of the load.
If this was in WvW and you’re in Yak’s Bend. I think I was chasing that thief down right along with you.
If not, same thing happened to me yesterday too.
They should make that “Can’t go invis again” debuff slightly longer.
LOL yeah… it’s getting worse in sPVP now too, run up to a node to cap, suddenly start losing health with no enemy in sight then when you’re down you see a thief ready to deathblow you and the combat summary showing you ate 18K heartseeker and backstab and cloak & dagger… ugh it’s getting irritating.

Did some tpvp with my guild and we’ve been encountering teams like 3 guardians and 2 rangers, they were a super PITA to fight considering all the 3 guardians were bunker spec and the rangers just stuck their pets on you no matter how much you LOS’d their arrows.
You said dagger is the only one hard hitting weapon like if you had that many other options. If anything let’s buff the Axe, but an underwhelming weapon doesn’t make for the whole profession being underpowered, far from it. Also, Staff, not a great choise for s/tPvP?… Is by far the most used weapon set, viable for condi and power based builds alike. I think we both agree Scepter is good.
Try using the staff against players that are constantly dodging and running back and forth, the 4 ground target marks make it difficult to place, sometimes I get lucky by placing them in the direction they’re going but most of the time they don’t land. I mainly use staff and scepter/dagger but I’ve been finding myself using the staff less and less because of how often players move around.
What necro only has 20K health? I can’t go into pvp without 26-30K health, too squishy for my liking even with 1700+ toughness/2300+ armor.
Lastly, if they’re the type of thieves that continuously stealth, they’re trying to take advantage of the fact that your game does not render them out of stealth as fast as they do.
This is the issue I have with just about every single thief I encounter now, that and pistol whippers.
Necros ARE UP, the dagger is the only good high damage weapon, besides the staff which isn’t such a great choice in the fast paced s/tpvp. But the dagger has its own issues as well, I rarely use the dagger mainhand because I don’t like getting close to hard hitters. But come on, only 2800 damage hit? My scepter will hit harder than that if I can manage to throw 5 or 6 conditions on you because scepter #3 gains 8% damage per condition (which never happens). You’re going to get hit harder than that from thieves and warriors.

I lost interest in this week’s WvW matchup, it was nothing but orb glitching left and right, I would love to matchup against Darkhaven again, they always gave good fights.

Intel has been ahead of AMD in terms of top end benchmark performance for years, but that doesn’t mean AMD isn’t viable- I’ve had no problems with AMD over the years. Skipping first generation was the best thing to do when it comes to AMD (Athlon, Athlon MP, Phenom and now FX “Bulldozer”). Back then Intel introduced the Celeron line which gave a big fat huge cost:performance ratio and every hardcore PC user flocked to them which caused AMD to create the Duron line (of course that fell behind as well), I myself had a whopping dual Celeron 533MHz system clocked at 1.1GHz per CPU, it was pure insanity at the time and I also had an AMD Duron 900MHz system at the same time and it barely could play half the games I had (Moenia was super laggy in SWG on it).
When Moz made that boneheaded thread about how FX falls behind and assuming Phenom II users can’t play this game resulting in that thread getting bombarded by users that are playing this game with Phenom II’s (including me) with nearly zero issues. Moral of the subject is: not all AMD’s are junk, the Phenom II’s are among the best AMD has had since the K6-3+, Athlon Slot A and Athlon II X64 (or Sempron).
Wow, you always in a rush? I don’t care much about running 10% faster, but I do use the focus curtain when I want to zip through mobs in an alleyway or cave just to get the POI badge or to escape. Just get the speed signet for your weapon if it matters that much.
Speaking of which, the speed boost with daggers on my necro doesn’t seem to work. lol must be part of the 97 bugs it has.
PS- I put the warden to very good use.
(edited by Teknobug.3782)
It’s a bad thing when it affects players that are ACTUALLY running around different areas, zones and different quests and events, like me last night I was getting junk xp while exploring Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields and no I was not camping events.
I never stay in the same place, I played my necro last night roaming Kessex Hills and Genderran Fields and I was hit by the DR, only getting 17-20 xp per kill on everything, I didn’t farm an event, I didn’t sit in one spot for long. First time it happened to me, I ended up just going to HoM and spvp’ing for the rest of the evening.
Is this a bug that came in with the Oct 1 patch?
What the?
I’ll continue to use my scepter/focus combination, warden+confusing images is a good way to kill targets, when the warden is finished spinning, I’ll use her for mind wrack along with my 2 clones, simple as that. The 1 second delay between spins was broken, admit it.
My minion army spec (0/0/30/30/20) works decently in PVE, but in sPVP/tPVP that spec doesn’t work jack squat, I’ve been trying power/crit/condition and other builds and they’ve all been meh even with 2Kish power, ~1300 condition, 47% crit, 2200+ armor and 30K health- but that’s also due to some traits not working.

I’m seeing a lower variety of classes lately in sPVP (still see a variety in tournaments though), the more sPVP I run now the more thieves I encounter but there’s still a high number of warriors and guardians as well. I think thieves has become popular because of the render problem the game has, getting killed by a player you can’t see.
I even tested this myself on my thief, my thief is normally a dual pistols thief (which is fairly challenging) but I resorted to dagger/dagger and it made me think I was doing well because hardly anyone ever responded to my attacks.
So yeah… if you’re playing a thief and think you’re so good, think about it some more.
Boy is it rare to see a thread that says that necros are very very powerful.
Yeah tell me about it, maybe there’s something I don’t know? My necro is fun to pvp with but… I don’t gib someone down as fast as I can with my mesmer or thief.

4 or 6 physical cores are different from a 2 or 4 core with hyperthreading.
Physical cores (eg X6 1090T):
1
2
3
4
5
6
Hyperthreaded 6 cores (eg FX6100):
1→4
2→5
3→6
Intel’s HT technology is better than AMD’s FX HT technology, for now i3 and i7’s has HT, not sure if the Pentium G series do or not.
LOL “20 stacks of bleeds in no time”
Thanks for the laugh of the day.
of all the MMO games i ever played in 7 Years i Never Seen much Burst damage in pvp before.
HAHAHA!
I’m going to assume you never played SWTOR, oh my god that game had way too much burst damage after patch 1.2.
GW2’s burst is laughable, sure if you stand there longer than 5 seconds yeah you’re going to die, master the art of dodging.
PS- necro’s pets don’t do that much damage, other than the immob wurm and golem, and mesmer can only have 3 pets (clones do 2 damage per hit).
(edited by Teknobug.3782)
Fix necro bugs so that they are no longer UP.
Buggy, but not UP.
They kinda are UP, half the traits don’t work with necro, the increased mark size and +20 toughness per minion deployed and running speed with daggers definitely doesn’t work, those would bring the necro up a bit from UP.
There’s what? 97 bugs left?
(edited by Teknobug.3782)
I have one, very serious question.
I have:
Phenom X6 II 1090T @ 3.8 Ghz
16 GB Ram
2 x Radeon 6870 in Crossfire
Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD Mainboard, 750W PSU
I bought my rig two years ago. At the time it was the top of the line AMD CPU.
How the KITTEN is that a bottleneck ?
Why the KITTEN is that CPU giving me 10-15 frames per second on sieges at LOWEST possible settings ?
Surely, there is nothing wrong with optimization right ?
Right ?
I’m using a X6 1090T also @ 3.8GHz, and I still get over 30fps in siege fights with mostly high except post-processing and reflections turned off. Try disabling crossfire or take one of the 6870’s out.
But in yesterday’s patch it introduced a bit of fps stuttering for me now.
(edited by Teknobug.3782)
Tell us how you really feel, lol.
Seriously though, nice vid. People can claim how imba the thief is, but they ignore the paper thin armor, and susceptibility to stunlocks and confusion condition. Everyone only remembers the thief that handed them their butt on a platter, and not the hundred other ones they killed or drove away.
OK, I did alot more sPVP today after not doing some for a couple weeks and boy I see what the problem is now, thieves can kill you and you can’t see them at all I know because I caught a ranger all by himself and I was suddenly drilled down for no reason and I looked around while it was happening and couldn’t see anyone else but the ranger shooting at me but the combat summary window showed I was killed with thief abilities. That wasn’t a problem a few weeks ago last time I did alot of sPVP, I know that was occuring in WvW occasionally because of the vast amount of players and the world size, but now it’s in sPVP and thieves are abusing the renderring issue the game has. Somewhere along the way in the past month a patch affected the renderring.

With today’s patch, I’m starting to experience some fps stuttering which I didn’t experience beforehand.
Well I’m not one to say nerf, but with some recent patches, there seems to be a rendering issue (you can see it in WvW) that thieves are taking advantage of it in sPVP now, when getting killed you get the damage summary window and most of the time getting hit by backstab, heartseeker and cloak & dagger when you never even saw a thief to begin with.
In the first couple weeks of launch, there weren’t any rendering issues and I was able to see and deal with every thief I saw.
Either Anet needs to address the rendering or figure out how to deal with thieves’ stealth abilities.

I upgraded the guts of my PC to run GW2. This is what I bought;
AMD FX-8150 (OC’d to 3.95GHz)
Asus M5A97 EVO
Patriot Viper 3 Mamba Black 8GB
CM 212 Cooler
AMD Radeon HD 7770I get 18FPS standing near the forge at LA.
I get avg 35-40FPS everywhere else.Got to say I’m really dissapointed
Look up about disabling core parking and see what happens.
Good video, 99% of thieves I encounter are terrible, even “perma” stealth ones, I don’t remember the last time I’ve been killed by a thief so it’s rare to come across a player that can play a thief well.
My thief is personally dual pistols, the dagger/dagger is too FOTMish for my liking, pistols allow me to stay at range and move when needed.
What’s up with Ruins of Surmia? And Fissure of Woe is almost just as bad.

For now my Phenom II X6 1090T is treating me well with this game, but I do plan on getting an Ivy Bridge pretty soon, but I’m going to see what happens witht he Piledriver. I’ve been using AMD’s for my main PC since the late 90’s with the K5 and K6-3 but I’ve had a share of good Intel systems (like the dual Pentium Pro, Celeron 533MHz @ 1.1GHz & dual P3 2GHz).
As for the FPS discussion, you can see a difference between 30 and 60 fps, if you have Fraps then set it to 30 (or 29.97) and record something, then set it to 60 fps and record again, you’ll see a natural motion blur with 60 fps. But you won’t see much of a difference between 60 and 120 fps.
And I’m glad we’re into the LCD/plasma era, the old CRT TV and monitors are bad to our eyes, each refresh line causes our eyes to bobble up and down if staring at it for a long period of time, plus the moderate radiation. On my last CRT I was able to see a difference between 60Hz and 75Hz, it was night and day and 60Hz instantly made me look away with disgust.
By the way, is that the same GOON Squad from Lowca in SWG?
This is starting to turn out like the Ilum crap in SWTOR all over again, Anet needs to respond quick unlike Bioware left Ilum sitting there for 3-4 months ruining pvp before they disabled the stuff in Ilum.
