The full servers are locked to new people. GW2 doesn’t go by how many people are on, but the amount of people that has their home server set to that given server.

The 32nm and 22nm Intels are obviously ahead, but the FX series is basically a flop so if you haven’t upgraded your Phonem II X4 or X6, wait until the Piledriver comes out and see how that turns out before deciding to go Intel. The FX 8150 barely surpasses the X6 1100T in most benchmark categories, it’s pretty sad. I built an FX 8120 with a Geforce 680 for a coworker’s son, not a bad system but I didn’t do very much with it.

The FX 4170’s clock capacity is mind boggling, it would be fun to have a 4.7GHz system, but GHz isn’t everything in performance, the architecture has a lot to do with it as well hence why the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge chips blow by even at 3.3GHz.

I have been considering an i5 but haven’t had the cash to upgrade yet but I’m happy with how the game runs on my Phenom II X6 1090T, I don’t encounter the problems lots of posters in this forum section has then again I build my own PCs so I know the system from the inside out.

I tried these drivers, GPU usage went way down and CPU usage went up so one of my 6 cores hits 99% half the time while GPU sits at 40% and gave a few slow motion hiccups during WvW. With 285.62 GPU was 85-87% usage while CPU was around 65%. Think I’ll go back.

Sword/pistol synergizes better with a greatsword, scepter/sword or focus syngerizes better with staff. Sword/pistol doesn’t help as a condition damage build.

I walked by the bridge event area in Kessex Hills and saw the exact same bot there for the past week, reported him numerous times and I know several others has as well, and he’s STILL there!? But I’ve been killing the NPCs before they even get close to the bots (so they can’t loot them).

Most of the bots I find are around event POIs, even in world vs world near skillpoint locations up in the north west/east spots.

I like scepter/dagger and dagger/focus(or warhorn), the staff auto attack is actually faster than my mesmer’s auto attack, and hits harder. Never really liked the dagger/dagger combo, I dunno why so many people like that combo (especially with elementalist).

I used the axe once and got all the attacks unlocked, then tossed the axe away, I looted a rare axe and never even thought about it using it, I don’t like the axe attacks.

I found the inspiration (vitality) trait line to be terrible, I’m experimenting with 10/20/30/0/10 (not my final decision yet) and so far having good success, with a mix of power/crit/critdmg (condition/vitalty in amulet/ring/acc), I have enough toughness already from 30 into chaos.

The +50 toughness while holding a staff, the +5% of toughness going to power, etc. It’s kind of hard to die now against mobs especially in events, been running into events that no one is around and trying to do them myself (95% success so far).

YB isn’t getting owned as badly as YB owned Darkhaven and Anvril Rock last week, the 3 orbs buff is way too much and needs to be toned down for the attacking servers to have a chance. Anvril Rock gave up pretty early in the week because they couldn’t get through our zerg when we got 3 orbs, but Darkhaven spent all week trying to take out Bluebrier.

The week eneded with us over 490K and neither DH nor AR reached 100K and the entire map was blue.

11 bots is a new record? Nah there were more than that at the broken bridge DE in Kessex Hills weeks ago.

i tried this out last night and it actually seemed to have worsened my fps. before the change, i sat my char on a cliff overlooking a heart zone in Caledon Forest. I was getting 90+ fps with 0 screen stuttering when i panned my camera around. when i followed the OP’s steps and got back into the game at the same location in Caledon Forest, i was greeted with about 10-15 lower fps and screen stuttering when panning the camera.

i didnt do any extensive testing, but i can say that parking actually introduced more screen stuttering when disabled on my system. when i turned parking back on, my screen stuttering went back to normal (read: none).

i dont know if that make sense technically, but that is what happened on my system.

I second this, I tried it out myself last night and it indeed made my performance worse, when I turned them back on it was fine again.

Again, this matters the most for those AMD FX/Bulldozer chips. Although I’m hearing that Athlon II users are getting a benefit too, I’m going to try it on my laptop.

Disabling core parking matters the most for those AMD FX 6*/8* CPUs, not sure if it matters much for i7’s but maybe GW2 aren’t taking advantage of the virtual cores the i7 has.

As far as I know, if you have an i3, i5, A8, Phenom II X4/6 you shouldn’t have to worry about this.

Go into your Nvidia/CCC panel and disable external enhancements like FXAA, MLAA, anti-aliasing, anistropic, etc. And set multi-display to single if you have just 1 monitor.

I’m using drivers from a year ago and have no problems, I tried out 306.23 for my Nvidia card and was experiencing sporatic flickering and got the black screen a couple times so I went back. Could be drivers too that are too new, try older drivers that you’ve had good luck with.

This game doesn’t really have a carrot to chase, Planetside 2 might suit you more since that game has ranks, platoon rank, command rank, etc. I’m in the beta, you can probably still join it. :P

I played FPS games for years (almost 2 decades) and enjoyed the pick up & play, I grew to dislike having to rank up in the more recent FPS games just to be able to compete. So no more progressive type games for me for a long time, SWTOR was the last straw with that garbage.

WvWvW is a zerg-based game, rank will be pointless since the highest ranked player could just as well hang with the zerg and get credit off kills other players on his team gets.

There are badge of honor to buy weapons/armor already, I don’t think rank will be relevant in WvWvW, if you want a status, there’s spvp/tpvp.

PS- there is skill involved, just not in WvW, unless you find someone 1 on 1 (and not buffed by the orbs).

Oh boy, I’m from Yak’s Bend and that makes me unhappy. I guess I’m glad I haven’t been able to get into WvW with the long queues in a few days now.

I’ve been hearing about the flying hack as well as the mesmer portal exploit, that didn’t take long for WvW to become ruined by hackers did it? Guess I’m not going to queue for a while, too bad because I got GW2 mainly for pvp.

Not only that, but when you chat in /map, you can see your nickname by hovering the mouse over or someone can run by you and target you and add you to friends list and it reveals the nickname. IMO nickname should appear in group/guild/shared friends lists. Adding someone to friends list should require a confirmation from the other person, I’ve looked at the “followers” list and saw a couple names I’ve never seen before.

Yes, it’s loads of fun and you make cash and level at the same time, just stick with the zerg, don’t wander off on your own or with 2-3 people. One night I gained 1.5 level and hit 1 gold just from getting kills (be sure to click the loot bags).

I haven’t had any problems with thieves yet, they’re definitely annoying but I haven’t been killed by one 1 vs 1 yet, warrior on the other hand has killed me many times with that frigging hundred blades crap (and the volley rifle attack).

The male Sylvari is basically a prettyboy, but come on I never even once thought about that. Johnny Depp was a prettyboy for a while, is he a homo?

This is what happens when a player with the 3x orb buff attacks you, and it sure as hell beats the 20% magic/33% experience/33% karma outnumbered buff (which IMO should be the winner’s buff).

I encountered at least 10 bots in the NW corner (where the skillpoint is) in our zone, I reported them.

The orbs do give a bit too much, my server is last this week so far and we have crap for health and damage is barely noticeable while we take 4500+ damage per hit from an enemy with 2 or more orbs.

Last week my server was dominating (490K to 60K and 40K) and now we got matched up with tougher servers and now realize why we dominated the other two servers.

Losing team should at least get a health or toughness buff while winning team should get extra reinforcements at sieges, IMO they shouldn’t boost damage done.

here’s the damage from a single player with the 3 orb buff. That plus being outnumbered caused most of our server players to just leave.

In the past month of this game I’ve been using my 285.62 drivers for a long time and never once encountered issues, but when I decided to install 306.23 to see how it performs, I got a black screen after half an hour.

The FX 6* series are one of the CPUs people are having trouble with, look up disabling core parking and that could possibly fix it, but not guaranteed.

You can’t really farm in this game, you have to be moving around to be able to get decent loot otherwise if you stay in the same area for too long you’ll get practically nothing for loot.

As for damage, your damage stats seem fine, just use shatters more often, the 10 points trait in domination improves mind wrack so your mind wrack will hit hard (you need 3 clone/illusions out), the staff isn’t a damage dealing weapon so pull out your phantasms, drop chaos storm with the staff then pull out the greatsword or scepter depending on your playstyle. The clones (ones that look exactly like you) don’t deal any good damage but they’re there for you to shatter.

There’s an event in the NE corner of Harathi Hinterlands that lasts over 30 minutes, crazy xp and has decent loot and there’s a chest in there somewhere.

AMD user here, game runs good for me, 30-35 fps in big battles in WvW but it’s still extremely playable, hell I even get 115 fps in Heart of the Mist. CPU and GPU are both getting heavily used as you can see in my picture (which means I’m not hitting a bottleneck… yet). I use an external Steelseries USB audio dongle and the audio slider in the game is left at the middle, I did slide it to best quality and didn’t notice that much of a difference.

And my specs are a bit lower than some of those that are having alot of trouble with the game’s performance, this is mind boggling.

Oh and I’ve been reading people saying that GW2 is using 1 core on their CPU and using almost no GPU, so I dunno what’s wrong with their setup since it looks normal for me.

Hi everyone! Can somebody tell me which is the driver to be used for nvidia gtx560 ti? I’m loosing my mind already finding out what’s the problem because I don’t get past 20 fps. My average fps is 11 fps and drops down to 4-5 when I encounter even one player. ONE freakin’ player! I’m reading other forums and they have like 40+ fps for gtx560 ti.

^ those are all the driver versions I’ve had trouble with on my GTX560Ti, not just in this game but also back in SWTOR. I stuck with 285.62, maybe you could try those ones.

Also go into the Nvidia panel and try these in the GW2 profile (add the game in program settings tab):

Whenever I try to play…. This isn’t a hardware issue for a lot of us. People with better computers then you are still having issues, and don’t have the option to upgrade any further.

I just went to the Grove to where you are in that video, set everything to high and turned everything on and it literally kills my fps, then I turned off vertical sync and it was fine… vsync seems to kill it.

I normally play with everything set on except for reflections to none and post-processing to none (I hate the bloom) and depth blur (with my eyesight, it makes focusing on the screen harder with depth blur turned on).

some days ago i logged in via smartphone…no email authentication needed
is the authentication failsafe activated for my account?
it would be cool to see the email-authentication status in your account management

I just tested this, I do indeed have auth enabled as I got a page telling me “awaiting auth” and went to check my email and there it was, I’m glad I do.

Just wondering, what version driver are you using with that 560Ti? I have been using 285.62 for a long time and tried 306.23 today and gave me bad results so I went back to 285.62.

OK, I’ve been using Nvidia 285.62 drivers for a long time, had no trouble with it in any game since the time I installed it (last fall), several months ago when playing SWTOR I installed newer drivers (I think it was 297* or something) and it gave me problems and I reverted to 285.62 and left it alone. Today I installed 306.23 and immediately noticed a difference in GW2, worse fps than I was getting with 285.62, during WvW I get 30-35 fps with 285.62 and that’s with 30-50 people on my screen, today with 306.23 I was getting 15-19 fps with just 10+ people on my screen.

Yeah… going back to 285.62. So I wonder if these people having fps issues are using cutting edge drivers, try some older ones from half a year ago or so.

Also there’s a bunch of people with similar specs as your upgraded PC that are having FPS problems.

As to what I have, the specs are in my sig, DDR2 ram btw, getting 30-35 fps in WvW, it doesn’t hurt me at all. Anything above 30fps is very playable.

ASRock boards aren’t very good to overclock on.

I’m pretty sure the Linux community will come up with a way for the Mac client to work on Linux sooner or later, right now GW2 in wine is a bit flakey. Otherwise I’d stick to Linux if it weren’t for the games I play in Windows. Years ago I used to play Half-Life, RTCW, Quake games, Planetside, SWG, City of Heroes, CoD, etc. in Linux.

Aye, back in the days I used to be on Linux 24/7 and played Return to Castle Wolfenstein (native), Half-Life (and mods), Quake * (native) and a few others. Also played City of Heroes and a few Call of Duty games under Wine with very minor issues. Things are slowly getting better but new release games will usually have issues.

And yeah a Mac these days is basically an Intel system, I miss the old PowerPC days but it’s obviously cheaper for Apple to distribute Macs with PC components.

WvW has been the most fun I (and most of my guild) has had in years since early days of SWG (player faction bases and random mass pvp anywhere in the galaxy).

As the others says, don’t run with the zerg if your server is failing, sneak around and find a keep to take behind the defender’s back and try to separate the defenders up.

PS- I recognize Angryranger & Columba… I forget what my screenname was in Aion. lol

I don’t think email auth is enabled on mine, can’t seem to find out since I got errors when trying to go through with it when I installed this game a few weeks ago.

Have you looked up about disabling core parking? That could help.

Right now GW2 runs like kitten on my Linux, I read that it’s because the game (or wine) isn’t using more than one core on a multi-core CPU, there’s a way to enable it but I forget how and haven’t found a definite answer after googling (I know there’s a way to set it in World of Warcraft config). I sort of encountered the same issue in City of Heroes, going into special/task forces it lagged like a buffalo in deep mud.

I’m curious about the Mac native client, that could lead onto something for Linux users.

No, couple players I know are using Intel i7’s are getting crap fps too, I’m finding it funny that AMD gets smashed on in these forums.

That column looks poorly written, AMD actually gave up shares to another company (Globalfoundries), I don’t think they particularly gave up on the CPU market.

The FX series was a bomb, but this isn’t the first time AMD has bombed, they did it before and made a comeback (the MP series, the original Phenom series). You know if Intel has no competition, they’ll jack up prices, an i5 3570P right now is $180, without competition they can very well pusht that to $400 if they want.

No screenshot during WvW (kinda hard to do that while focusing on the fight) but I do have a video recording since I left the recording going without realizing it (hence I didn’t even notice a drop in performance).

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.6GHz, 4GB DDR2, GTX560Ti gfx @ 1920×1080 windowed, all settings max except for post-processing and reflections (with depth blur turned off), fraps recording at 29.97 fps (which is why you’ll see slight fps skips).

In solo questing I use sword/pistol + staff, in pvp (WvWvW) I use staff + scepter/sword, I find it easier to stay alive and cast my abilities when I have the defense from staff and scepter/sword abilities (2 block abilities in that). Greatsword isn’t all that great in pvp, but rocks against bosses in events.

I haven’t picked up Moa (don’t care much for it and I mainly WvWvW) but does condition removal skills take an ally out of Moa form?

There’s just so many possibilities, hackers are smart. There was a virus that laid dormant in systems for many years until it found the nuclear reactor it was looking for and changed variables to ruin uranium enriching in the middle east. It’s not hard to figure out your password.

OMG, why would they even hook a uranium enrichening system to the internet? kitten like that shouldn’t even be connected to anything outside the facility.

I’ve heard about people using Kepersky generated passwords and having their accounts broken into (not just GW2), my thoughts is keepersky or some other password generator uses the same type of hash or PSK that’s possible to decode (cough Anonymous hacking SOE servers).

Simply put, the internet isn’t safe from anything these days, I prefer Anet add a security layer to accounts (secret question, possibly authenticator), you can’t expect the general public to understand what they’re doing. I know people IRL that uses the same username/password across several things and that can be a dangerous thing, mass majority of people on the internet does this.

I tested my account by changing my email address to another one of my email addresses, and was able to do it without a confirmation step… that makes me steam.

I play as a distraction/condition mesmer, I don’t see mesmer as a top tier damage dealer anyways since I’ve tested all the classes and mesmer is pretty close to the bottom so you have to put your phantasms and clones to their best use with F1-F4 skills.

There’s almost always botters in Queensdale event spot (broken bridge) and the little fort in that Charr zone but I came across a handful of botters running in a circle in the exact same pattern yesterday in the world vs world zone at the skillpoint location, I watched them for a few minutes and they weren’t live players and when they start attacking they’d run into walls/objects.

It’ll be REALLY unfortunate if botters begin dumping tons of mats onto the Trading Post. By the time they got it functioning well enough (well, reasonably that is – I’m still having issues on occasion) enough time had passed for legit players to stockpile metric tons of goods and just super flood the market. It was just now really starting to recover form that. Enough botters could easily spin it back out of control in to near uselessness again.

That’s my fear, I think it’s already kicking in on high populated servers, good thing it isn’t hard to get mats by yourself.
