Greandier: badly designed trait

I’d hardly call it equatable to HGH considering that not only is it not a 50% damage increase, but it requires you to have at least 3 elixers to be really effective so you sacrifice something for it other than the 30 trait points you spend to reach it.

Greandier: badly designed trait

in Engineer

Posted by: That Other Guy.7351

That Other Guy.7351

Grenadier essentially gives you a 50% damage increase, not to mention an extra 300 range on top of that; this is absolutely absurd. Because this trait exists anyone wanting to use grenades absolutely has to get it thereby hampering build diversity. Also the trait can not be re-balanced in it’s current state since it’s based on integers.

I propose that the grenade kit be changed to always throw 3 grenades with the damage of each grenade being decreased by X% (probably 15) and make Grenadier increase damage by X% instead of throwing an extra grenade.

Another possible solution would be to increase the damage per grenade by X% (probably 10) and make Grenadier have a Y%chance (probably 20) to throw a third grenade instead of 100%.

Autobalance Egregiously Unfair

One thing that would probably help is if there was a button to bypass server selection and simply jump right into a match and these people would be used to even out teams. Anyone who joins that way would be given extra glory (just like people who are auto-balanced currently) in order to incentivise it’s use.

The fact that you have no way of knowing how many players they have since they all claim they have anywhere from 17-20 players even if they have 0. For that matter they almost always say they’re on a different map than they actually are. TBH the problem would be solved by just fixing the kitten browser.

While 2 is fine for customs, the minimum number of players needed to start a normal hotjoin game needs to be increased to either 4 or 6. If this can’t reasonably be done without affecting customs then improve the interface to properly show the number of players instead of showing 18-20 even on ones that have no players, maybe even give us some sorting options.

When you have a game start with 3 the game is completely unbalanced and I’ve literally played games where it was just 2v1 the whole time. Even if more people join at some point it’s already had a major impact on the match.

Also last night I ended up in a 1v1 which wasn’t much fun for either of us and ended with my opponent quitting and me just standing around waiting for the score to hit 500 and getting lots of free glory. This is broken.

Any dependence on another skill or trait is a constraint to using that skill or trait. The more constraints you throw on, the less diversity you have. And no, nerfing popular builds doesn’t lead to diversity. It just leads to frustration and quitting.

This guy hit the nail on the head; thanks for putting this more eloquently than I.

In certain cases, such as the hammer trait you mentioned, they need to be weapon specific; those are the ones that are good candidates for working into the weapon itself thereby increasing the weapon’s flavor without hampering build diversity.

We already have a different set of weapons and a different loadout for our healing, utility, and elite skills when we go underwater, why not have a different trait loadout as well? Particularly since up to half a profession’s skills don’t work underwater effectively gimping the majority of builds when they go underwater.

How to promote build diversity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That Other Guy.7351

The main obstacle I see right now to build diversity is the fact that most players are pigeon-holed into investing up to 40 trait points into specific places depending on what weapon they choose to use which leaves them with only 30 trait points to work with and that’s assuming they don’t also spec into their other weapon set. This also has the problem of making any weapon you aren’t specced into feel sub-optimal.

Examples:

A flamethrower engineer must spend 20 in Firearms for Juggernaut and 20 in Alchemy for Deadly Mixture.

A dual-axe warrior must spend 20 in strength for Axe Mastery and Dual Wielding and 20 in Discipline for Sharpened Axes. (this gets even worse if your MH and OF are different)

I believe the best solution would be to look at each trait individually and decide whether to work it into the weapon itself (and re-balance if necessary), rework it to affect all weapons (such as a Master trait that reduces all weapon skill recharges by X%), rework it to affect all weapons of a particular type (such as all ranged weapons or all defensive weapons), move it to adept tier, or eliminate it entirely on a case by case basis.

Goldsell whispers

Posted by: That Other Guy.7351

That Other Guy.7351

The problem is when they ban gold whispering accounts the gold sellers just get more and it doesn’t really do anything in the long run.

What they should do is instead track down the gold transferring accounts; shouldn’t be too hard to track down accounts sending large amounts of gold in the mail to seemingly random people. Once you identify these accounts and ban them remove the gold from the accounts it was transferred to and probably give said accounts a temp ban, like 1 week or something.

This would pretty much eliminate their repeat customers since they would end up just losing their money and as word gets out many of their first-time customers would also be discouraged.

Another possible solution that could be used in tandem is if these gold sellers are amassing massive amounts of gold rather than spreading it across accounts you could track them down through all the gold transfers to them and close them, thereby eliminating large portions of their inventory and possibly putting them out of business.

I saw an engineer use a mortar once; needless to say I was in Heart of the Mists…

But seriously they’ve got to have the data telling them that people aren’t using the Mortar so there’s no excuse for not doing something about it to make it actually worth using; it should never have been released in such an abysmal state in the first place.

To be perfectly honest though even if they did buff it I really don’t think they’ll be able to make it work taking for the simple fact that it roots you down. The only other elite skill that does this is the Sylvari racial “Take Root” and the reason it’s able to work is because it makes you invulnerable as well; this solution would not work for the Mortar.

We need to either make the mortar into a turret or just replace it entirely.

Ofc the real underlying issue here is that there’s just no way to properly match up servers when we have such large falloffs in the performance of servers at various points in the rankings and that is a very difficult problem to address.

Ok so everyone who’s played an engineer knows what a pain it is to spam your basic attack when using the bomb kit and using the grenade kit above water. Making bombs auto-cast wouldn’t really work and grenades can’t be auto-cast above water because you need to lead your target.

Therefore I propose that grenade/bomb kit basic attacks be auto-cast while the button is held down. This would greatly reduce the strain on our tendons without creating problems.

Bizarre Name Restriction

That Other Guy.7351

I wanted a norn character named “Frost Bite” and because of the american useage of the word “bite” it was disallowed.

Neither can I use “Frostbite”, “Frost Biter” or “Frostbiter”.

This restriction caused some vampires from GW to have their monster text censored,
and now perfectly reasonable names are censored in GW2.

I am not american and I can only view this censorship as bizarre.

I am American and I haven’t the slightest idea what you’re talking about. Besides there’s plenty of hunter pets and probably mobs that have “bite” as one of their attacks.

This reminds me of a game I remember someone complaining about before that was overzealous in censoring of monsters’ names (and it was single player too). Some examples he gave were that he couldn’t name his tree “Woody” or his ghost “Boo Berry”

Now I can understand names disallowing words widely accepted as cuss words and other words widely accepted as offensive (such as words associated with unwilling sexual acts), but to try and get every word that someone somewhere might find offensive is just ludicrous and counter-productive.

As it stands this trait simply causes the banners to grant regeneration. Since regeneration only stacks in duration this effectively makes all other sources of regeneration useless or vica versa, not to mention having multiple banners out has no increase in effect.

Instead of applying a regeneration boon the health gain should be moved into the banners’ aura as it was during one of the stress tests. If the amount of health restored needs to come down some so be it, but as it stands this trait is nearly useless.

Your statement implies that all minor traits aren’t situational.

Most aren’t. Most are either consistently useful or have you playing a certain way to make them consistently useful. These revive traits can’t even be justified as niche since your group has to be doing so bad that they’re getting downed/defeated all the time during the course of the fight in order for them to make a significant contribution.

So what your problem with the Tactics tree is that there are damage-based talents in a support-based tree?

Did you even read my post? My problem is that it has 3 revive-based traits you’re forced into taking, not to mention 2 of them are crap (at least the first one is useful when you ARE reviving)

Whether or not there are some people that like them is beside the point; as it stand if you want to invest in that tree you are forced to take them instead of them being optional like they are for every other profession that has revive-based traits.

They could even fix this by moving traits around, such as swapping Empowered and Empower allies with Fast Healer and Reviver’s Might and adjusting numbers if necessary.

Reviver’s Might: Grant might to nearby allies when you revive someone.

These are utter crap and highly situational; please replace them with stuff that actually does something at times other than when you happen to revive someone .

No other profession is bogged down with revive-based minor traits; the rest make them major traits and thus optional.

“I have already noticed a huge drop in gold spammers and gold scamming mails in game. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this Anet!”

You’re lucky then; I’ve been getting 3 times as many.

“Here´s the ultimate solution to botting and gold sellers:

Just remove the capability to send gold through the ingame mail system.

If someone wants to trade gold between his characters, the person can use the personal bank.

If someone wants to help out a friend with money, they both could use the guild bank. One is putting the money in the guild bank, the other takes it out right away.

If you want to sell something, use the BlackLion Trading Post."

The increased difficulty of transferring gold to their customers would decrease their business, but it wouldn’t eliminate them entirely. As long as Anet is letting them stay profitable they will always be around. I came up with a suggestion to remove their profits all together as well as create mistrust with their customers

“On a side note can you perma ban the IP as well?”
This doesn’t work due to dynamic IP addressing. However if a certain network has produced a lot of botters they can block the entire network.

“Again congratulations on an amazing game… you made a lot of good decisions community wise until the game was released… lets keep them good.”
This. You did a good job of listening to the community during beta; don’t quit on us now!

“Don’t make it an “our programmer vs. theirs” thing because you will lose. Keep some eyes on the ground and you’ll be 1000 times more effective.”
Exactly; they may not want to hire people to search for bots, but it’s probably cheaper than losing money to gold sellers and it would be a big help to the community.

imbalance in weapon traits

in Suggestions

Posted by: That Other Guy.7351

That Other Guy.7351

Most weapon skills get a 20% recharge and something to go with it (sometimes also affecting a underwater weapon), or at least affects multiple terrestrial weapons.
Examples:
Gain +90 toughness when wielding a shield. Shield skills recharge 20% faster.
Rifle and harpoon gun shots pierce. Rifle and Harpoon Gun skills recharge 20% faster.
Shortbow and longbow skills recharge 20% faster.

However despite also being in the Master trait tier some weapon traits lack this and should be fixed.

Guardian:
Mace: damage is increased by 5%; not much benefit and mace isn’t used for damage anyway
Scepter: damage is increased by 5%; once again not much benefit for a Master trait
Sword: damage increased by 5%; at least it affects spears too, but I’m really starting to see a pattern here…
Torch: 15% recharge, so it’s less of a recharge AND it has no secondary effect

Warrior:
Axe: currently no recharge, which would be ok if axe benefits weren’t split into 2 traits (Axe Mastery and Sharpened Axes)
Sword: no recharge, but 10% increased crit chance; not so bad really, including for the sake of completeness
Longbow: no recharge, which would be ok if the benefits weren’t split into Burning Arrows and Stronger Bowstrings

Please consider this suggestion! SHIELD FOR GUARDIANS!

Oddly enough for the guardian they made the focus a melee weapon and the shield a ranged weapon; pretty backwards and they should switch their skills IMO.

We will continue to have gold sellers as long as they continue to make a profit. I have an idea for removing that profit.

Simply keep track of all gold sent from each account banned for botting, selling gold, etc. and delete that much gold from the recipients when the account is banned. That way they can’t just transfer the gold to accounts Anet doesn’t know about yet before deletion. Reverse their trading post purchases as well ofc so they can’t try to offload the gold that way either.

This will also have the benefit of enabling Anet to stop punishing legit players with some of the measures they take to hurt botters.
