do you mean you only have 2 hours to play?
Yes.
I understand that due to the dynamic nature of events everyone has a different view on their occurrence. That’s only my observation.
figure out the event patterns.
What most of you say is I find events in WvWvW or at well known locations (e.g. in low level zones). I know that! But what if I want to play PvE and don’t want to stay in low level zones for ever (waypoint cost would be higher than the daily achivment reward)?
I actually find killing 15 different types of mobs to be slower to fill
I find this easy, There are approximately 3 different types per “area” (each area contains a heart). So you can either run far enough in one zone or travel to 5 different zones (which is extremly easy if you have multiple characters.) So maybe getting fast to different types and staying long enough to find events contradict each other.
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
Good point.
There are a few NPCs telling you that something is going on if you talk to them the event is shown on the map. However, the event is usually so far away that it is over when I get to the place.
There are not enough events to complete daily achievements in a reasonable time.
It is (almost) impossible to find 5 events in two hours by either staying near renown hearts or running between them. Is this intended or am I making something wrong?
I’m currently planning my first trip into the Ascalonian Catacombs and tried to figure out what the rewards would be:
According to the wiki one exploreable mode run through Ascalonian Catacombs yields 15 (soulbound) Ascalonian Tears and I need 210 for a complete non-exotic armor. Hence 14 runs for one armor, which is (according to the wiki) level 35!
Can someone confirm this? Besides sounding extremely time consuming, didn’t you outlevel a 35 armor in 14 runs through a dungeon by far?
I think it may have been mentioned before but I think there is a problem in how much stuff needs to be crafted to level up the crafts.
The way I see it, many people are producing lots and lots of crafting products because it requires lots and lots of crafting products to be made to level up the crafts. This makes the supply of products very high, even though most people actually aren’t making these items to sell. This makes prices on the trading post for crafting products no better than selling them to a vendor.
In addition, all those products need lots and lots of crafting materials (especially the fine materials), meaning the demand on the crafting materials is very high, which coupled with low drop rates makes the price very high.
The result is a situation where it is nearly always better to farm the crafting materials and sell them than it ever is to actually sell a product. This makes for a very sad crafting experience.
So, what if you didn’t need anywhere near the number of products crafted to level the craft up? Well, you would have far less products on the trading post – possibly enough to make the supply & demand reach a reasonable equilibrium.
The crafting materials demand will be much lower because less products are needed to be made. This means the price on them will fall to more reasonable levels.
The result should allow products to be made that are at least cost effective – hopefully even profitable. This would make for a much better crafting experience.
this
Burning does significant damage and its easy to apply a lot of it as a guardian. Additionally, Guardians have to traits that increas damage against burning foes and foes suffering from any condition.
The downside is that your burning is pointless if your target already burns. In an event with 5+ other players against a champion the champion is almost guaranteed to be already burning. Yes you add more duration of it but in larger fights there is already enough burning.
Who told you it doesn’t work in guild wars 2? I craft for both reasons, for fun and for exp. In Guild wars 2 theres those 4 reasons to craft.
Well, I crafted my own armor until level 30. At level 30 I had not enough (tier 2) ingredients to craft one set of armor and you need to craft a lot more to level the crafting. Although I’m gathering a lot and kill a lot for fine crafting materials. At this point a small scale (3 required for one insignia ) cost ca. 7s at the trading post. Whereas the complete item cost only ca. 60c
In summary, ingredients cost more than 21s and the produced item less than 1s!

I usaually like crafting in MMOs for two reasons both don’t work in GW2
1) Crafting your own equipment
Its cool to know that you created it but I find this especially important (sometimes the only way) to have a consistent armor set. By the time I find all matching parts from drops 2 are already out-leveled.
However, due to the rare drops and insane market prices it is almost impossible to level your crafting so that your able to create level appropriate items. Infact you can buy armor on the trading post for 50% of the price of a vendor. Repair costs are three times as high!? You need to creat more than you need to level your crafting but extra items are worthless on the market.
2) Earn some money
Discovering and creating thinks that others want and trade it. This should in my opinon cost someting i.e. time for crafting and gathering. Thus tranforming play time and effort into money.
Currently, item drops are extremely seldom so its alsmost impossilbe to gather enough ingredients. In most cases ingredients cost a multitude of the crafted item at best the item and the ingredients cost the same.
So why should I craft? What’s the purpose of crafting in GW2 (besides some very expensive extra xp)?
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
did you mean that you are higher level, say level 60, and when you are in actual level 60 zones you are not seeing level 60-ish rewards?
Oh. There is no upscaling! I thought there would be because you will be upscaled to level 80 in WvWvW. was ca. level 35 in levl 45+ zone and loot was not near level 35.
Guild Wars 2 likely has around 1500 different dynamic events, suggesting that the number of events is extremely high.
My point is that I find too few of them or they don’t happen often enough.
I think this is an issue with the areas I’m in and their current population. I know other people on the some server who don’t have a problem with this. They are higher level and thus usually in other areas.
The number of events is extremly low (every region: Aurora Glade and Whiteside Ridge). It takes hours to get the 5 events needed for the daily achievement.
Yes spam is terrible at the moment. Every time I log in I have to report 3 mails an 3 chats.
I’m also trying to find a good spirit weapon build.
The Sword seems good with all traits. I think the hammer is better if you’re at range (scepter or staff) since the knockback throws the target out of melee range.
However, I’m dissapointed by Bow and Shield. They don’t really help with damage (not all spirit weapon traits improve them). Both have periodic/random effects and are thus a bit unreliable. Sometimes they don’t follow me (bug?) in combat.
Concentrating your traits for spirit weapons will restrict your choices: 30 Zeal, 20 Radiance (so you may freely chose the major adept trait) and 10 Virtues. Especially, Valor (survival) and Honor (support) are lacking.
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
Very good intro guide!
- Boons that mitigate damage:
- Aegis: Block (take no damage from) the next attack. Regardless of how strong an attack is, if you block it, it has zero effect on you.
- Regeneration: Gradually return health per second
- Protection: reduce incoming damage by 33%
The Shield of the Avenger will follow you and periodically lay down Shields of Absorption that knock back allies and stop projectiles.
Bow of Truth will create an area around you that provides steady healing over time to any ally that enters its radius.
Shield of the avenger does not create a Shield of Absorption: enemies are not knocked back and projectiles are not blocked but absorbed (i.e. on block effects are not triggered)
Both are a bit lazy to follow you during battles (not sure if this is a bug) so targeting the healing of the bow is difficult and may require some collaboration by your allies.
- Taking both the Zeal and Radiance trees makes your Symbols potentially very powerful. They heal, deal more damage, apply vulnerability and cover a larger radius.
Radiance doesn’t improve symbols. Honor improves symbol size and makes all of them heal.

I don’t like this jumping (or should I say falling) and scratching my head because I can’t find the way to the vista. Most of the vistas are OK but there are a few that are really frustrating.
In my opinion it would be far better if the resulting map completion reward would be more useful (I almost always get items for other classes and other levels)
Same here. I get loot for my level but very rarely and I’m down scaled often.
Strangely, if I’m going in a higher level zone and are up scaled, the loot also doesn’t fit my level.
The game client requires the latest DirectX 9 components;
If this does not resolve the issue, could those of you experiencing the crash attach crash logs (ArenaNet.log file) and Game Advisor reports to the thread?
The DirextX installer says a new or equivalent version is already installed and thus doesn’t let me install something. I’m not sure that I used the correct file (I search for DirectX9 and choose the DirectX9 update download) can you provide a direct link?
But I looked into th “ArenaNet.log” file and found something(File attached):

As far as I remember all timestamps match the crash times. nvd3dum.dll seems to be a NVidia driver file and d3d9.dll looks like it is DirectX9 related.
I suggest everyone having this issue search your ArenaNet.log file for the text “Memory at address 00000000” and check if the timestamps match your crashes.
So now that we know that , what shall we do?

Does retaliation still deal damage if your opponent misses due to blind, or is blocked?
According to my current understanding (see answer summery above) : no.
How does Retaliation work?
1) Does it reduce incoming damage?
The description says it “reflects” which may imply that you don’t take the part that is reflected.
2) How does it interact with blocking?
Consider I have both retaliation and aegis active (or any other means of blocking). If the next hit is blocked, is a part of the blocked damage still reflected or will retaliation not be triggered?
Answer summary
adapted from MaximusAwesomus.1784:
“Retaliation deals damage to foes who successfully hit you. The damage dealt is independent of incoming damage and is a fixed value that scales with power.”
Additionally:
- does not reduce incoming damage
- requires to be hit so retaliation is not triggered if you block

I didn’t find anything in the event log after the crashes yesterday. However, after I ctr+alt-del to the desktop at second crash yesterday GW2 send report dialog showed up and the process ended normaly after sending the report (new symptom?).
it only crashes in windowed mode
I never used windowed mode!
(PvE only) Despite my initial believe, I really like the staff.
#1: Hits multiple targets in a wide area at mid range that alone is great but serves two purposes 1) hitting multiple enemies will trigger your Virtue of Judgment more often 2) hitting multiple enemies seems to be imported for event contribution and gaining loot
#2: Difficult to use but hits multiple enemies and heals allies. The fact that you can’t target an ally to heal is inherent to GW2 healing concept.
#3: I often underestimate speed buffs but I use this for traveling AND as additonal AOE damage
#4: 12 stacks of might is amazing and I think casting time is a reasonable price
#5: Can keep multiple enemies away from you for a few seconds (i.e. you take no damage). Works greate to cluster enemies during “defend something” events and spam #1.

As I said, I like the mace/focus but often feel it doesn’t enough damage.
What’s your opinion on that? Did you use traits to enhance the damage output? What secondary weapon do you use? …
1) Go to Nvdia control panel, hit the button that says “restore”, this will prompt you to set the control panel settings to default, click yes.
2) Launch GW2 and change graphics settings to the preset “Best Performance”
I already tried the “Best Performance” option still crashing. So I did not “restore” the driver settings. The point is: the fact that it did worked well a few days ago, in my opinion indicates that the issue is caused by changes to GW2 and is not a driver hardware problem since my driver and hardware are still the same.
I’m actually having the same exact issue as TheBluel.
It doesn’t crash to desktop and I don’t get an error message. The rest sound similar.
Dell XPS 15 (L502X):
Intel Core i7-2630 QM CPU @ 2.00 GHz
6gb of ram
2gb nvidia geforce gt 540m graphic card.
The mace is an excellent defensive tool and I would recommend to try it with a focus off-hand.
However, I often find that it does to little damage (so I hope there is a trait combination for that). The other problem is that its support options require that your allies are very close which isn’t always the case.
GW2 crashes sporadically.
Crash symptoms:
- GW2 UI freezes
- sometimes sound keeps stuttering
- sometimes I can alt+ctrl+del to the task manager and kill the process however the system fails to shutdown afterwards (i.e. I can stop the task but the process gw2.exe can’t be killed)
- the tray icon indicating if the Nvida GPU or the internal GPU is used doesn’t react to anything - sometimes I can alt+ctrl+del desktop and GW2 send report dialog showes up and the process ended normaly after sending the report
- if I can’t use the task manager I need to use the reset-button (i.e. holding down the power button)
I had those issues in the beta weekends but they seemed to be fixed a while ago. I played a week from head-start without those issues. Two weeks ago the game started to crash constantly again. Then no crashes for one week and and now crashes are back. I’ve reported via in-game tool and web site but customer support doesn’t respond.
Since I’ve seen it running long time without crashes (e.g. a week), I don’t think this is a hardware or driver issue but due to some performance optimization attempts.

Some more detail about your traits/skill bug would be helpful. Someone may be experiencing the same thing or knows a fix that will help you.
In regards to the bulk of your topic, I’ve yet to crash since release so it may be a good idea to bring this up in the Tech support forums to see if someone can lead you toward a fix:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech
Trading post issues can be posted in this thread:
I’ve posted about most of the issues, reported the bugs via the in-game tool and contacted customer support via the web site. So I didn’t get much response and I’m still reading through other crash reports here in the forum.
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
Unfortunately, for me the game has fallen back to beta quality again:
- crashes
- login issues
- trading post takes my money but doesn’t give me the items
- multiple skills and traits not working
- …
I had those issues in the beta weekends but especially the crashes and login issues were fixed a while ago. Two weeks ago the game started to crash constantly again. Then no crashes for one week and and now crashes and login issues are back. Customer support doesn’t respond (so I understand that they are busy).
Almost 3 weeks after launch this is really disappointing.
Having said that, the game is greate in the moments when my experience is not disturbed by those issues. Although, there are some other debatable issues (drop rate, level scaling, un-appropriate rewards, prices, …) which might not belong in the bugs category.
The money was withdrawn but I did not received the insignias i bought.
We use our 7-9 skills to heal others.
There is a lot of healing in #1-6 skills: e.g. Symobl of Faith, Orb of Light, … as well as Healing Breeze.
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
Zealot’s Speed trait does not work for me, no symbol is created if heals gets below 25%.
The Guardian has a wide variety of healing and support (boons, blocking, controll, condition removal, …) abilities.
However, it is important to understand that healing in GW2 works different. Basically, every class has an effective self heal. Whereas healing others mostly works via multiple smaller heals.
The Guardian has a lot of those “smaller heals” as well as multiple ways of reducing damage.
(edited by TheBlueI.3486)
I think the trait si broken. No Symbol is created if health is below 25%.
Second Guardian trait that does not work the other being Strength in Numbers.
I can’t match buy orders!
The trading post shows 29 buy orders for a specific item but does not allow to match the highest buyer. I can only queue my sell offer.
It’s been moved to a bar under the skill.
That’s it. I was so focused on the numbers that I never noticed this red bar.
However, the indicator seems broken for some skills.
“Sick ’Em” is shown with a range fo 3000 (?) but the indicator is always red.
Symobl of Wrath has no range / radius specified but always shows as in range.
During the first beta weekends and stresstest the skill numbers turned red if the target was not in range for a skill. This doesn’t happen anymore. I’m not sure if this is a bug or the feature was removed.
auto-attack is enabled!
Since it happens also with Wave of Wrath where I’m sure that the target is in range, I doubt that range is the issue.
Yes. And since the trading post doesn’t work I can’t even sell it.
I noticed that my character sometimes stop to use the skill marked as auto-attack.
The Guardian trait Strength in Numbers does not show any effect. Is this intended or a bug? It is inidcated by a small icon if allies are affected by Battle Presence so I expected the same for Strength in Numbers.
