bump. Thanks for keeping this easy to spot, yall! I really appreciate all this continued support. Hopefully it’ll get stickied at some point, but until then, let’s keep this easy to spot for those that need it

I was in the same boat as the OP about a month ago, trying to decide between a gaming mouse or keypad (because I don’ have enough disposable income for both.) Eventually I decided to get a mouse, the popular Razer Naga, because I felt it would be the easiest to learn, and I would have a comfy mouse for doing schoolwork with. It only took about a week to learn the buttons, but since then, my play has greatly improved, and my weak finger joints from 9 years of classical guitar aren’t punished as much during long gaming sessions.

I would definitely recommend the mouse

No, our presence in that timezone is pretty weak. I can suggest some Aussie guilds on the server though, such as Unreal Aussies (uA) or Night Vision (NV). uA is a mega PvX guild, and NV is a hardcore WvW guild.

We tPvP probably 5-6 nights a week. We aren’t what you might call “hard-core”—most all of us work, have families or school— but we are serious about winning. Typically, 3 or more of our pvpers will be on at any given time, so finding an impromptu group is pretty easy as long as you advertise your intent.

If you’re not adverse to trying a guild out on another server (i.e. guesting) perhaps No Dice might fit what you’re looking for. We are located on Fort Aspenwood (Unfortunately, our server doesn’t take to kindly to rping, you darn TCers!), are PvX, and have 15-25 members on a night.
Beyond the normal stuff that guilds offer, like high level Fractal groups and Guild missions, we boast one of the friendliest communities on the server. We have a core base of players that have become friends over the last 8 months since launch and are always willing to accept new people into our fold. We have formed a community focused on helping our members with anything: half-price precursors, dropping everything to get something their DM title, or forming a WvW mini-zerg to get a tower in Enemy territory for Map Completion.

I won’t talk your ear completely off about how great we are, mostly because of the server difference. I would encourage you to try to find a guild on TC to be able to fully participate in whatever guild you settle on (such as WvW and guild bonuses). Vexxum, assuming you don’t want to have to pay money to switch servers to join a guild that may or may not actually work for you, make sure to give us your current server and what type of guild you’re looking for. This information is invaluable for proper recruiters to find you, and will make sure you find something that actually fits.

For example, I can tell you’re more interested in PvE content atm, but do you want a big PvX guild where it’ll be “easy” to find groups for dungeon runs and such, or are you looking for a smaller, more intimate setup where you may actually have someone willing to teach you stuff but you may find it harder to get in a group?

For the record, I’m not trying to recruit you. If you answer these questions, however, you’ll find that the guild you settle on will fit your needs much better and you won’t have wasted money moving for a guild that doesn’t.

The topic of your thread is very important to make sure you have the right recruiters reading your thread, after this, information like what kind of people you enjoy playing with, how long you typically play a night, potential repping, and work situation etc, are all very important to make sure you will fit right within a guild. All guilds have a trial phase where new members are vetted to get this type of information, but you can skip a lot of the process (and alot okittenwardness) if you’re very clear inside your thread about what type of guild you’re looking for and will be comfortable with beyond just the aesthetics normally touched on in guild recruitment threads (PvX…150 members… hardcore… These are all very vague). The reason this specific thread is so effective, imo, is that I know exactly what my guild can and will provide and am looking for players that it would best serve, and the only way I can know that, is if you say it here.

No Dice is in the process of perfecting our first premade tPvP squad and we could actually use an Ele. Dice is a PvX guild of FA, we have an active core of around 10-15 players who all know each other via constant use of our Mumble server. We’re also active in every other area of the game: boss farming, high level Fractals, we have every type of guild mission unlocked and we do them on a weekly basis, and, finally, I’m also leading a brand new hardcore WvW squad.

Most importantly, we’re all friendly and don’t take this game TOO seriously. That isn’t to say we’re not competitive. We want to win, and that’s why we’re perfecting our premade.

Hello my Fort Aspenwood brethren!

I’m seeking a few more dedicated WvW players to help fill out our Havok squad ranks. We have no reqs besides you’re willingness to use our VOIP and rep us in WvW.

Participation would include consistent attendance at WvW raid nights (two nights a week atm), and a one practice night a week in our custom arena or in tPvP.

My vision is a 5-13 man group of players hitting targets quickly and efficiently, drawing pressure of our main force, effectively playing PPT and being efficient in small squad open field fights.

To be clear, this is an idea in its infancy. However, this means you’ll have much more say in any and all WvW decisions made. So if you’re tired of being lost in a zerg, or even a guild that is starting to feel restrictive, remember No Dice.

How are we supposed to take a system seriously that doesn’t even have serious repercussions for abandoning a tournament level team? It not only debases the occasional match’s quality, it dilutes the level of competition.

I never want to see another 500-0 Match again in my life, even when I’m on the winning side. At that point, winning consistently is no longer about skill, it’s about being blessed by the matching making gods, or crushing everything with a premade.

My guild, No Dice on NA server Fort Aspenwood, does this sort of thing. We run puzzles, challenges, rushes, and bounties every Monday. There would obviously be obligation to rep other times, (we don’t need any more merits) since you’re on a different server. If this works for you, shoot me a PM and I’ll add you and send an invite.

Come join us for Guild Challenges! We’re one of the first guilds on the server to have them unlocked and completed successfully. We also have a new weekly raffle going, which I suspect is just a clever way of extorting influence money from the populace, but it’s fun to roll the Dice every once and awhile. Come check us out!

For rerolling, you might consider a Warrior. They’re pretty much god while leveling are OP for endgame PvE content. Even specced full DPS, they still have higher armor and HP than most classes specced tanky. Mesmer might be tricky to level if you won’t be running around with friends, most “leveling” zones are pretty empty because of the new Karka event.

If you enjoy WvW, than by all means keep doing it.
For a change of pace you might try some sPvP. Doing tPvP on the weekends has helped me gain much better that I apply when roaming in WvW.
Also, if you ever need to gear an alt, than the Badges of Honor I assume you’ve been accumulating will serve you well, however, you’ll need at least 10g to fully gear a new spec in Exotics. The easiest way to make money is probably running CoF Path 1. You can make about 3 gold an hour there. Do that a couple times every week, and funds shouldn’t be an issue.

Mesmer can be very frustrating to level. They are a late-blooming profession, with great ability in all aspects of end-game PvE and are extremely useful in WvW, but until you unlock certain trait lines, every battle with mobs at lower levels will feel like a fight for your life.

The opposite is true for Ranger. Along with Warrior, Ranger is one of the most fun and easiest to level classes out there. However, you bring a good point about being limited in end-game content like high level Fractals or dungeons speed-runs. A well-played Ranger can have a very high upside though, especially in WvW.

Bottom line, if you go with Mesmer, you’ll have some tough times getting him up, but you have greater ceiling. Ranger has less of a learning curve, but it’s much harder to play well. Play them both I’d say, and test out both of their max level gameplay in Heart of The Mists against some sparring partners.

You’d have to transmute it to an exotic with the stats you want.

Before you start getting the torrent of copy-paste recruitment posts, I want to wish you luck in this noble endeavor from a fellow Fort Aspenwoodian! It makes me very glad to new players on the server and in the game in general. Hope you find a good group!

Reroll an Engi. Most diverse class in the game, and they have some of the best traits, builds, and mechanics for just playing around with crazy stuff. I have a guildie who rolled Mesmer exclusively until two or three weeks ago, and now he’s engrossed on Engineer. They’re great in sPvP, WvW, and PvE, and can fill any roll in a team. Plus, they’re aren’t many of them around.

We’re PvX and on Fort Aspenwood. We are a huge multigame community. We have a major presence in PS2, WoW, LoL, STO, War Z. We even have a community Minecraft server! We are a friendly, organized group that demands nothing more from you than a sense of humor and access to Mumble (where most of our conversations happen.) We are pretty strict about 18+ for applicants. Real life comes first, most of our members are professionals or attend university, and many have kids.

We very balanced in our approach to the game. We have extremely active and skilled dungeon runners as well as active farmers. So if you want help getting those last few Lodestones for your legendary, or having a group of friends willing to get you to that next level of Fractals, this is the guild for you. Our only goal is have an awesome time together in Tyria.

We are starting to get somewhat active in sPvP (and by “we” I mean me and the other PvP officer and whoever else I can con into helping us.)

When I’m not terribly distracted by tPvP, leveling alts, or doing 8 Bit Madness, I lead nightly havok squads in WvW, and host a guild-wide WvW event on Wednesday night.
