As for players quitting, if they haven’t paid back any loans the money or items bought with the credit would just be repo’d until they are paid back.

It might affect their online gold store sales, but I do not think there are many people who would pay $500 for 100 gold in the first place.

A loan and banking system for Guild Wars 2

TheKillerAngel.3596

The purpose of this thread is to detail an idea that will potentially limit RMT by making readily available credit to players who wish to purchase something they do not have the funds to currently afford.

Here is the basic framework of the idea:

1. There exists a bank in game that can give out loans with interest.

2. Players must pay back their debt and interest (can be in installments) within a time frame determined by the size of the loan. Players who fail to pay back their loan will have any outstanding credit or items bought with credit (this includes dyes, armor, weapons, etc.) repossessed and held until the loan is paid back.

3. You cannot take out a loan until you have paid back your prior loan.

4. Credit effectively acts as a second currency on top of your gold. It cannot be traded, and items purchased with it cannot be traded, destroyed, or manipulated in any way to change their ownership until the loan is paid back (i.e you cannot put an item bought with unpaid credit in the mystic forge).

5. The amount of credit a character may take out is limited by their level + how many skillpoints they have. Thus, a level 1 character can only take out a loan for 1 gold. A level 80 with 200 spare skillpoints can take out a maximum loan of 280 gold.

6. Players can deposit money in their banks and generate money based on interest (the money must be in a bank for a long enough term).

7. Interest rates are determined by the state of the market, with input from ArenaNet’s resident economic adviser.

8. Failure to pay back loans within a certain time affects the user’s credit score and their ability to take out loans in the future.

I am open to other refinements and suggestions for this concept. It is not specific to Guild Wars 2, but more broadly a concept for future MMORPG’s. Please keep discussion polite.

Never thought I’d see people complaining because a game wasn’t pay to win.

To be fair, money doesn’t get you all that much past a certain point because Guild Wars isn’t a terribly gear dependent game (unlike something like Aion).

Make Skritt playable.

in Suggestions

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

It could theoretically work. You could give Skritt a passive that reduces the strength of their skills solo (to maybe 66-75% effectiveness) but increases their stats when more skritt are in the area (this would follow a logistic function, with increasing numbers of skritt providing a large initial boost and then diminishing returns). Skritt, with a large enough group, could get a 150-175% bonus to certain skills and stats.

Inventory expansion is not account wide. It is for only one character. However, you can add as many character slots to your account as you’d like.

Suggested additions and changes to the BLTC and gem/gold conversion

in Suggestions

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

The gold/gem ratio should be a floating price determined by the market, as opposed to some algorithm used by ArenaNet.

I also have suggestions for the following additions to the store:

Complete dye unlock pack: Unlocks all dyes for a character. Cost could be 1600 gems (20 USD).

Character appearance change: Gives 5 tickets to adjust any of your character’s appearances. 800 gems (10 USD). This has already been suggested multiple times and I expect it to be implemented soon.

Character name change: Gives a ticket to change your character’s name. 400 gems.

Character gender change: Gives a ticket to change your character’s name, gender, and appearance. 1000 gems

“Perfect” salvage kit: Allows you to extract upgrades off items without destroying the item. 10 charges, cost could be 200 gems.

Some more classic GW1 armors would also be nice additions. Elite Druid armor was a pretty popular choice among lots of rangers in GW1, so adding that as a medium armor option on the store would be nice. A few variants of Obsidian armor might also be a great addition.

Bots in Guild Wars 2 [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

I disagree with the following sections:

The evidence that Guild Wars 2 is suffering from a Farmer’s Market is clear on the Black Lion Trading Post’s very own listing history. Countless items that began to find reasonable value for players and were effective enough to farm and sell on a casual basis, have all now bottomed out in price to become next to worthless in value. A clear pattern emerged in all of these items, no matter what the previous value of the item was, someone injected upwards of 2000+ items at the low, low, low price of 1 silver. This created a barrier which drove the rest of the market in an unstoppable direction.

Can you name some of these items? Without specifics this sort of claim is very difficult to validate. First, as more people on servers reach level 80, naturally, most low-mid tier items and materials used to craft said items will depreciate in value. Second, if you are talking about T6 Fine Crafting materials, most are worth very little because they are not used in creating items that are part of the current metagame. Powerful Bloods, used to create Power/Precision/Crit damage exotics, are worth 10-15x as much as most of the other T6 fine materials, such as Ancient Bones or Vicious Claws/Fangs.

Price Spikes

The Black Lion Trading Post is a world-wide economy. Not a single-server auction house. The system takes into account all servers. So if a choice handful of Gold Farms create a barrier by placing several thousand items at exactly 1 silver, the rest of the world-wide economy will have little choice but to follow suit and place items at that price. Most people sell rather blindly without searching, so once a sizable enough barrier has been put in place the item will often remain low in price as long as the barrier remains firm enough to overrun the demand of the item. With botters constantly farming and injecting items into the market at 1 silver, the barrier will likely outmatch the demand of any item at any time because bots can farm non-stop while a market can only consume so much at a time.

Meanwhile, rare items are seeing outrageous hikes in price towards 100+ gold, which for many players is not exactly reasonable in price at all. Quickly the economy is starting to become controlled by a small minority of gamers who are exploiting ArenaNet’s lack of ability to stop them from overrunning the system. The engines driving this economic machine are the bots and the countless accounts at the disposal of these Gold Farmers. For many Gold Farmers this is a real life business which is often their one and only income, so they take is business very seriously. They take it far more seriously than most gamers do Guild Wars 2, to the point that if a player stumbles upon a horde of bots in an event — this will likely just encourage the player to stop playing the game because they cannot enjoy the game they’ve purchased the way they intended to.

Most of this is patently untrue. Most “rare” items (in the proper usage of the word) sell for below 1g, average 20-30s. The exotic items you speak of that cost nearly 100g are precursors to legendary weapons, and as such, are very hard to get. Most exotic items cost 2-5g, with unique ones costing 7-26g (named armors, destroyer weapons etc.). Extremely expensive exotic items represent a minuscule fraction of the active market – in spite of their price.

Dialogue cutscenes: How did you like them?

in Personal Story

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

I whole-heartedly agree with the fact about making them speak in a way that they acknowledge their own surroundings, be it a war, a dinner party or death. They smile like village idiots the whole way through, i wonder do they actually understand what they are doing?

Absolutely. There’s some terrible cognitive dissonance when the words and tone just don’t match the situation.

Dialogue cutscenes: How did you like them?

in Personal Story

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

Were you OK with two characters speaking against an animated backdrop, or would you have preferred a more cinematic conversation and dialogue style, a la Mass Effect?

Personally, I was alright with the cutscenes as they were, but I kept telling myself that many of them would have been much more dramatic or gratifying if they were storyboarded then rendered in a cinematic approach. It’s obviously a lot of work and I don’t expect it to retroactively happen, but in future installments of Guild Wars 2, I think this would go a long way with solving two issues:

1. Voice acting complaints

2. Player immersion

I think this would help make the voice acting better (and seem more appropriate), since it would have more context. If the voice actors knew that they were to read lines in the middle of a proper battle cutscene, they would be more motivated to speak with the appropriate emphasis. Likewise, concerning player perception, delivery of such lines would seem more congruous if it were occurring in the middle of a battle cutscene, as opposed to an animated background.

As for player immersion, if a character is about to sacrifice himself or herself, or otherwise make a dramatic statement, having them stand against an animated backdrop with little gesturing seems a bit strange (i.e. CM story mode, Logan yelling that he suspects Jennah has been killed while he's just standing there seems a bit strange, likewise Sieran about to sacrifice herself while just standing there seems decidedly unheroic).

Who did you like more? Characters from the first games compared to GW2

in Lore

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

I think the characters from Guild Wars 2 fall into much more predictable tropes than the ones from Guild Wars 1. Rytlock and Eir are the archetypal, stoic warriors, Zojja is the arrogant genius, Caithe is trying to play nice with everyone and Logan is the tragic hero, etc.

To me, some of the characters from the first game were quite memorable. The relationship between Mhenlo and Cynn, for instance, was quite amusing. I also think Gwen and Keiran were generally well developed.

Bring back henchmen!!

Can you please elaborate on this? What were henchmen?

Henchmen, and later heroes, were an essential part of Guild Wars 1. They are NPC’s you have a selection from to help you with missions. Heroes, unlike henchmen, can be customized with equipment and skills.

Did these heroes or henchmen ever allow you to solo run dungeons?

Yes, skilled players could use heroes to clear an elite dungeon like Slavers’ Exile on hard mode. You can even use heroes to complete some things like Glint’s Challenge and be AFK while doing it (here’s a build that could do this: http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_Glint's_Heroway ). This was only possible when they added 7 heroes (until some point in 2011 you were limited to 3 heroes per party).

More precision in linking locations on map

in Suggestions

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

Currently, we can only link waypoints and POI’s on the map. I would like to see an additional feature where we can link specific locations on map. This would greatly improve the speed of communication among players because we would no longer have to give an approximate location and directions to people who might not know their way around an area or its events.

It would also help with T6 resource gathering and help lower prices on some commodities.
