I personally is looking forward to a new dungeon. And the new gear. Cant see what the fuzz is all about if people dont want to grind DONT do it. Stop kittening and whining like little kids lol.
The problem here is that someone with a full set of ascended will have quite higher stats. For example 1000+ hp, 5%+ crit chance, 30%+ crit damage. Those are examples but over all each piece will give you 8% more stats. When some items are over 100 stats already that 8% is massive in power boost. This is what people dont realize. In order to stay useful you will have to grind.
Well, the fact of the matter is that you can’t know that. I’m not saying that it’s impossible that we will have to grind, but I’m saying that it’s possible that we don’t have to grind. I mean everyone here says that GW2 is about enjoying the journey, playing for fun and all that. What if the recipes for the ascended gear will only require things you get from having fun playing the game? I mean exotic gear right now is pretty much grindy, and people expect a new gear tier to be more of the same. What if this new gear tier is the developers way of remedying for their mistakes with the grind involved in the acquisition of exotic gear?
There are multiple ways of approach to this new patch; either you assume the worst, assume the best, or you wait and see what the developers have in mind.
Alright, what if people are just trying to do the other dungeons? what if they want to go with their alt in another part of that dungeon rather than grind it all over again just so he/she is able to join his/her party?
Also, we can know that, it has been already officially stated there will be more gear grind in the future, a middle term, to poor of a grind for grinders to enjoy, too broken for casual players who just want to do the high end content they were promissed they were able without gear grinding.

Im sorry you are leaving the game, ive read ur thread and i agree with everything that person said and with ur edits applied if any besides the quote commands.
Also its impressive how these ppl come to this game change it and show arrogance for players who actually enjoyed the game the way it was.
Even more disturbing now is the fact that if this is ever implemented, you can be assured the next big updates will feature the same thing, you will find ur ascended useless and will be forced to grind for the next armor, now all this we already know will happen if this goes forward, but what people are avoiding to talk is the following:
In a game where you have no grinding, your next expansion pack obviously cannot rely on that system, u are giving players what they already own, so how can u release new content and still be the same in stats as the old content?
You need more imagination with the design of the armor making it more appealing, compensating with more and nicier skills for every profession, improving the new area graphics even further and design it more beautifully, make more fun to play dungeon runs and loot rewards, those will be essential to actually lure ppl into buying their new expansion pack and playing it, it has to be actually good!
Lets see what happens if we add more levels and stats in gears:
You add better stats in gears, they can look ugly, np ppl can transmute into the old one, the point is u give them something they need, better stats, you give them more level, so what if storymode sucks? they will still be forced into playing it wether they like it or not they will still go through it to achieve the max level, new skills? why? its fine the way it is… new dungeons, yes lets make more dungeons for them to temporarly enjoy untill the next gear arrives, but however, since this is the first time we do it, we will probably make things with a bit more quality, we will make alot of eyecandy to dellude players into thinking “awww dis looks shweet! gear grinding isnt so bad after all!” and once we have them we can resume a relaxed attitude against the community, we got them now the game is the way it is and its not going to change, and grinders will not quit even if it sucks because they have grinded too much to quit the game now.
Am i beying absurd?
I am looking forward to this update with the new dungeon. Might reinstall the game tonight
And stop overreacting, you guys make it sound like the world is ending.
Nobody is overreacting here, they are pretty much on the spot i see no exagerated facts in general, for an overreaction an exageration would have been required.
there are too many reasons for that happening i cant just guess mate, please contact costumer support, they will help u further, and or test other games, just 2 is not enough, install more do whatever u can do test it, u dont need to be a hardware technician to get to the bottom of the cause.
Also everytime u have an issue u must always post your full pc specs and operating system.
How do I update directX? And I have tried the only other game I have for this pc being D3, which doesn’t do it. It seems to do it when something is being loaded or refreshed like when I scroll up or down in the browser. Not like crazy hardcore just a split sec. Not worried about that I just wanna play GW2 and can’t because it goes all out crazy when I try to. Card drivers are updated btw just not sure how to check or actually update directx
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
There u go.
This isnt exactly the appropriate forum for this type of problems btw, so if that doesnt work then its something more complicated, when ur screen tears while vieiwng webpages i suspect alot u dont actually have ur gfx card installed properly, u should reinstall the latest drivers from your brand website.
We don’t fear the “power creep”. We are just tired of it.
I just dont even want it before i get tired of it, i got tired already in WoW
The fact there is nothing you have to do is what made GW1 so great, you could just log in, do what ever you wanted and then maybe played something else for the next two, three or even six month without losing power. This is what most of the old community expected GW2 to be like too.
The worst thing about the power creep or gear treadmill is that it is absolutely unnecessary. You don’t need increasing stats to do new or harder content cause mechanics don’t care about numbers, they work no matter if you have 20k or 50k HP.
this post is bs.
you could get level 20 gear in gw1 that was weak as piss and you would be slaughtered everywhere you went. you had to work extremely hard to be on a competing level. gw2 makes it so easy that those exotics people are complaining about being useless probably took no more than a week to get a full set.
I would love to see someone get max gear at max level in gw1 in a week or two.
I can get a Warrior to 20 and farm Tengus for feathers outside of LA in 1 day.
I have all 10 chars in gw1 and each took aproximately 1 day to have max stats, i ncreased its looks rather than stats since then and have been very satisfied, here is proof that i am not talking lies:
http://imageshack.us/a/img339/7057/theguildwarskeepersoo9.jpg
well for starters, you are paying 60€ ahead so its not really F2P as that would imply free to play.
So part of the money is obviously got from there, buying gems for account expansions, like expanding the slots in ur char and or ur bank, buying minipets, alot of optional things like townclothes, things like xp boosters or 100% salvage kits, and so on…
Yes its pretty easy to make money with a f2p game, especially when u make the servers split and instanced, that way u can buy alot weaker end servers and spare more money than just buy a beast of 1 server to run it all.
try updating ur gfx card drivers, update ur directx, test more games than just this to make sure it only happens here, if same still occurs after all those checks are done and only happens with this game then u need to contact costumer support.
Thank you for suggestion, i disagree with the compromise, i paid the game and was assured times and times again this wouldnt be gear grinding, just because the system you are suggesting mitigates a bit the grinding, you will still lag behind, you will still be forced to get better gear everytime u just want to login and do high end content with them, for me that idea does not work, but thats just me and my silly ideas from GW1.
28 days later:
Full ascended guy:
-There is no endgame and progression in this game…
The problem is no matter how easy or quick they make it and btw they will make it very very slow to achieve these new tiers, you will always salvage ur old tiers and move on, and if you want to have all classes fully leveled, this is a huge STOP sign so u know about it perfectly well and focus ur entire time grinding more and more and more, once u finally achieve it with all ur chars, it happens again, u get from level 80 to 100, u have to not only grind the gear now, but u also have to grind the levels, this is why ppl tend to avoid system like these, what if they want to take a break? what if they have multi chars? they enter the game see new content and then they go like, oh… i have to grind again… well no matter, i have more important stuff to do, im not paying it monthly so i can wait for t he next expansion, and by the time they reach 3 or 4 expansions, their characters are completely alienated from the game, nobody will come with you to do those obsolete dungeons, youll pretty much have to work harder to get ur character back on his feet, and thats just painfull to think for many including me, there are numerous mmorpgs out there who do just that, why making the only available grind free mmorpg tell us that we too wasted our time farming max stats as now they increase in time making what we have obsolete, the game was simple, u get max stats u stay max forever, it worked very well in gw1, it wouldve worked pretty well in gw2.
It is normal to have an insecurity as beying the new leader of an organization u didnt even expect to make, i see that part actually properly taken care off, there are others however, numerous other issues with the storyline, like u pretend in a mission its the first time ever u see a risen abomination when uve seen soo many untill that point, or the emotional part many times unproperly taken care of.
May i know what is the vocal majority if aproximately 8 in 10 disagrees with this change?
Well, what is there to wait and see, if you already know what you will see?
The dev statement is clear, they will not add more gear grinding every 3 months, that potentially means they will add more gear grinding in the future and this will surely not be the final one, i dont see what is hard to understand that most ppl who were interested in gw2 and those that came from gw1 feel betrayed by this silent move of them, they kept things silent and developed, and 1 or 2 days before the patch is released, they came to tell us about it, something like:
OH hai! how are you? we are ready to implement the patch, here are the changes, everything is ok as it should i hope? no? :\ but we already wasted team effort to code it, oh well np ull enjoy it anyways
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
brilliant, i hope they will increase level 100 in the first expansion pack, thats good for us players, especially the ones who like to grind for more gear again since obviously u will not keep ur level 80 gear in a level 100 char, i do hope this game also gets mounts while they are at it and also bring healer back, make warrior more of a tanker so it finally can be like all other mmorpgs out there
PS im forced to talk like this… for some reason.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
lol i think this is what most ppl wanted, and i agree with more skills and ranger pets, armor skins and everything, nobody here is against new looks we welcome them, many ppl see that ur choice of utility healing and elite skill slot is severly limited and that is also very welcomed, the backpiece exotic stats would probably the only thing i would ever want it increased as u have to pay 5 gold for a yellow one and thats just ridiculous, same could apply for the water breather, but introducing gears with better than max stats is downright insulting.
As for vacation theme well… theres enough erotic armor going on which i find strange beying this a rated 12 game… no clue how they got that here, alot of armor just look as if you are having a sexual fantasy, tbh i see no place for armor like these in a game, i dont want that kind of crap in the games i play.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
Alright guys, so this new crap of a strategy to force us into wasting more gold unless we want to be sub optimal in the new content is not only going to affect the major community so far that has been focused on getting max stats and by no means will ever be in a positive way, but also will make other ppl realise that the free grind game just got grindier, what exactly will happen to all of us who have wasted all this money on max stats?
What will happen to my 5 exotic sets? my exotic weapons mains, secondaries, underwater main, underwater secondaries, my 5 exotic jewelry sets?
Is this supposed to be a joke? will players who already have bought exotic for this inflated price get free upgrades to turn them all into ascended stats as we bought the armor before ascended was even announced?
What about person who wasted real life money to turn it into gold and then buy exotics?
Have u A-net even tought about this? ofc u have but have u tought that there are ppl who are against this crap and ppl who have more than 1 char? what do we do now? flush all this time wasted down the toilet to replace for ur brilliant decision of new armor stats and waste months again to get it all back? u cant be freaking serious.
Alright hf and dont get dissapointed if u die too much, personally i didnt but that was because i invested in gear right away, ele is a good support class and in some dungeons u feel like u could be of actual use to ur party that other professions wouldnt be as good, but this is pve im talking about.
Well platypus i agree with what youve said but i see it very unlikely to happen, i dont see how dealing 5k damage in a dragontooth with its current casting time could ever be considered overpowered, no man with brains and a pair of speakers could ignore its sound or its aoe warning, its just not possible to not notice it unless ure completely distracted, the damage it currently does is a freaking joke, u dont even have to dodge or use swiftness u can literally walk away from it! and MS is a freaking joke, i like it in pve because mobs arent coded to avoid it, in spvp u can randomly kill 1 or 2 guys if a bunch of them hit in the same place more than twice very fast, its simply an unreliable spell and has no business existing ingame this isnt lottery, u get enough of that with critical chance now u get it with dealing damage or not dealing at all too, and then u have some pros complaining i died with ms in 4 hits cause i got hit by it too much nerf plz! so the compensation of high damage because its a random spell is nerfed so it has no compensation at all! makes sense?
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
For single target dps, u just cant go wrong with mesmer, in spvp when traited correctly a mesmer can annihilate an elementalist with all its petty bunker build, if he is glass cannon then he just made ur day, u can usually kill it in 4 hits before he even has a chance to switch back from healing to dps skills, however with mesmer u need alot more strategy, you are reduced to a very limited ammount of healing and you really need to do ur best to make sure he wastes those precious seconds hitting ur clones to figure out which is the real you or not, as long as ure nowhere near the clones sometimes and other times right near ur clones pretending to be one of them, he wont be able to tell u appart by just random guesses, but thats not even necessary, stun, launch, confuse, permableed, cripple, and deal 3.5-4k damage per phantasm is enough to take him down in few seconds.
Elementalist right now is a confusing class, it contradicts its own concept with its borked trait system, so ull find many of them with very similar build which only makes ur life easier because u will not notice too much discrepancies.
u rly consider dual dagger one of the best burst dps? my engineer with a rifle can outperform ur dual dagger at ease, the only thing u got right was the healing.
And yes trait system DOES want you to stick to 1 attunement, earth and arcana possibly beying the only ones which u can make use of it in other attunements aswell, fire, water, air all of that has numerous traits which only supports themselves.
You rly need to play other classes…
Im confused about your comment newportBox, are you saying that it is unbalanced to press a button or 2 to switch ur weapon outside of combat, but perfectly balanced to open ur backpack and do exactly the same but wasting more time and effort? like 2 seconds?
Dont really understand your logic there.
Oh yeah i forgot aegael, when more than 50% of ur party is dying but not dead at exactly the same time its ur time to shine in 4.25 seconds, whatever killed ur party that quick for them all to be downed at the same time and all of them in casting range and still be downed and not dead in 4.25 seconds and all still in the same area and you without doing anything else than just casting that glyph without the ability to dodge or evade or cast other skills, and the mobs that killed more than half of ur party is going afk totally ignoring u and ignoring ur downed party members (so they wont die in the 4.25 seconds) this indeed is an amazing skill!
How could we be so foolish?
Let me know in 1 month of teamplay how many times u find a situation like that to be worth having that waste of a skill slot on you at all times.
And BTW its rally up to 3 people OR rally 1 and the next time ure downed ure rallied OR rally an ally and push him to ur location OR rally an ally with full health.
You do not rez anyone and u dont have all those benefits at once.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
indeed albane, and u can do that without having any of ur utility slots wasted, with 0 recharge time and u can even cancel it meanwhile without it beying interrupted so ur effect is still applied but not as strong as full casting time, unlike the glyph, how great is that? :O
No, just wait for the next patch update, who knows, maybe they will reduce casting time on fiery GS by 0.5 seconds followed by a 33% damage reduction nerf to all fire staff weapons.
Execellent explanation! Which describe entirely my fears.
I’m pretty sure that GW1 veterans remember how ele players were regarded in general: “noobs profession”, regardless of your level of skill you’d still be regarded as noob for simply playing an ele.
In every discussion both in game and outside the game, your opinion was never appreciated simply for being an ele player, comments like :" lol blind spammer scrub"-" knockdown nab"-" invoke rankless nab spammer" and so on.
People have got all the rights to pick a profession which does not require big efforts to have fun with, that’s a legitimate reason, but we must always look at both sides of the coin.
When you play an “easy” profession, generally in people minds you automatically become a “scrub-noob” etc etc; believe me it’s an terrible feeling, everytime you try to talk about PvP you get laughed at to say the least, this is what happened in GW1 as ele player.
I really want the ele in GW2 to stay as it is, of course minus some obvious balance issues ( elites, glyphs, fire traits) and major bug fixes( RTL-magnetic grasp-mist form), but pls Anet do no dumb down the ele for the sake of players that in all honesty they could simply switch to an “easier” profession
Ive played guild wars 1 for over 4 years and dont recall ever be called a noob ele, furthermore eles simply annihilated pve back then with the proper builds, there were so many builds u could choose from besides sf/ms u could almost never get bored of the class and be efficient like no other.
And that was with splitted attunements, theres also not 2 sides of the coin, the gw2 elementalist description is exactly the same as gw1 elementalist description so the 2 side of the coins goes down the toilet, i much rather have creative elementalists classes which were actually viable for decent damage and good heal in water, great dps in fire, great protection abilities in earth and sick 1 target dps in air, right now u have the same boring profession across the game using same weapons and skills, adding nothing to creativity or build choices, thats why u get 20 clunky spells and other classes achieves the same and better with only 5.
This is not an elementalist, this is more like a paragon, the only way i would agree for this to be a class full of bloatware and make u take as much efficiency of that bloatware as is possible for a human was to call it a different name or simply add a class called “elementalist” and call the current one BloatWare Mage or Elemental Paragon as this one clearly isnt an ele.
The concept is fun, but i dont see anet doing much effort to make this class viable to play, thats why many ppl suggest to remove these attunement stuff and split them up, its the easiest way for ANET to balance the class because currently, with all its versatility, with all its 20 magnificent skills, in spvp u are still forced to go melee or die in 1vs1. If this is what u think that gw1 elementalist was all about then im sorry im in the wrong forum.
Having said all that, i still use my ele in pve, mainly CoE, i dont find the class boring but i do fint it borked when i have skills that block for 5 seconds only 3 attacks and then it explodes which recharges in 60 seconds basically telling u “this is not a good skill to use for solo crowd killing”, or having lightning flash with 45 seconds recharge time while the mesmer equivalent blink is only 30 seconds, or having stupid traits like “u get more damage while in water”, “your fire spells add might for x seconds when u are casting”, “bleeds u apply last longer” and other random crap like that, how the heck can u convince me this is a versatile and fine class when the trait system itself is forcing you to stick to an attunement more than others?
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
its impressive the ammount of ppl u find in this forum pretending to be so pro at something that they even refuse or disagree with needed changes like these, u can delude urself however u want, pressing a combination of 2 keys or simply \ is going to be 5 times faster than ull ever be at opening bags and double click on each of the weapons to do so.
Some ppl…
lets see… 1 second less casting time, passive ability, this one says revive and no comment on wiki about only downed players so ill assume it actually revives with the only downside of having a bigger recharge time.
Yeah… totally MUCH worse.
hmmm this is some sort of bug within the forums it semms, perhaps the last post required to make the next page isnt working as intended.
Sorry guys had to comment something or the entire thread would beocme invisible.
Might I respectfully submit that both of you are wrong?
I think it’s just a matter of playstyle. Each of the 8 classes has a certain playstyle that’s distinct from the others. Likewise, each player has a different playstyle. It could just be that Calle’s playstyle meshes really well with Elementalist, but Aedil’s playstyle doesn’t? Maybe Aedil is a better match for Guardian.
This essentially means L2P, as in, L2P Elementalist. I actually find that your post supports Calle, rather than the opposite. Though you believe each person has a specific playstyle and can’t surpass good outside of it, I, on the other hand, believe that players can adapt to any class, if they take the time to understand it.
Wot? no way, are u trying to tell me that im not the best player in the world for using ele and l2p good with such spaceship (ele) in comparison to a bumper car (other classes)? pfft i dont wanna hear any more of this! ele is hard to master but im good!
Yeah, but i really also prefer to keep my char voice clean, i just did another CoE run with a silvary ele and everyone was so silent except him saying all the time " I am fire" “i am water” I command earth" or whatever the heck he was saying he was spamming it so freaking much, when i pointed that out the other guy near it agreed lol.
When im focused on alpha sometimes i forget ppl can die and if they are well behind me and i dont look at the team information hp bar i dont even notice he is downed, then suddenly i hear “help me character voice acting” i turned back, found him few meeters away and then ressed him, that actually made me feel good, thats why i wish the game had an [Option] to block all that bloatware crap talk and make them somehow more relevant to the gameplay, i dont know if you guys are understanding what im trying to say.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
sorry mate when you are talking about reaction and attentiveness, thats GW1 talk too, especially “attentiveness” xD but just pressing in the proper rotation like a trained monkey, well since youre pushing it a tad bit, i can say the same about gw2 no? whats the difference again? especially when ure forced to choose their skills from their own lists rather than u putting ur choosen skills in the bar as you please it also makes it less creative and less synergic.
Im not saying gw2 is a bad game, but gw2 beying a hard game? or ele a very difficult to master class? i disagree entirely coming from gw1.
@BFNK dont get your hopes up too much, the elementalist players have been dissapointed countless times about updates so far, save the downed state.
Yes kilger thats exactly what i think about it.
Calle, when you are talking about L2P issues for a GW1 player that always sounds funny (at least for me) this game is baby stuff in comparison.
[sarcasm]Yeah, GW1 players can teach us wise using of mobility and dodges and swapping attutments in a fight.[/sarcasm]
Nobody said they can teach u about new systems that only makes it easier, not harder, the game overall was alot harder than gw2 and nothing you can say about it changes that, without a very organized and coordinated team you would simply fail the dungeon or mission, if you didnt have the right build you were either suggested to change or kicked right away, in here u can do it with pubs and still win it even if 2 team members in your team are unexperienced, i cant speak for arah or TA but for AC, CM, CoE, CoF i can.
This game is easy compared to GW1 and i do not see why people are complaining that elementalist is the hardest to learn class, thats a bunch of rubbish to make their ego feel high and imo its just pathetic.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
Calle, when you are talking about L2P issues for a GW1 player that always sounds funny (at least for me) this game is baby stuff in comparison.
Yes this skill is quite stupid the way it is, 4.25 seconds casting time for what?! to get someone from downed state to normal state with some stupid boons? they can move this to elite skill section and i would have cared for that move as much as i would care for WvW (i dont).
Earth Elemental has some use in PVE, and Water Elemental in PVP, but in general, the elites are worse than regular utility skills.
I use the Sylvari racial ‘Take Root’ – I find it far more effective than any of the Ele elites.
No, they are simply just too overpowered to be considered utility slots! frankly i take utility skill over them anyday if i could have but since elite skill forces you to use the elite skillls only….
Yeah youre right this ele is kind of a joke in comparison to gw1 ele, this resembles more the paragon than anything.
Yeah an option is all i ask lol, i rather hear chars saying usefull stuff like “help me” when they are downed rather than having my char spam the voice acting with “i do this”, and nooooow im gonna hit you with those! take that! hah i can move mountains (throws rocks) and so on :P
Hey, am i the only one who after a while of playing it gets annoyed with all this crap talk “i summon the power of the whatever”, “i summon the power of the storms”, " my power is like a tydal wave" and so on so forth…
For me and this is just my opinion, it would be freaking excelent to be able to personally reduce your own char crap talk to either saying “Water,Air,Fire,Eearth” or simply not say anything at all, its unnecessary crap talk that adds nothing of value to the gameplay except getting on my nerves :P
Anyone here feeling the same about this possibility? or different?
ugh, dont u think it would be wiser to have another weapon doing what you are requesting rather than changing 9 staff aoe skills to single target? :\
How about this, change air attunement into single target DPS and adding more dps to it, its not like many ppl find them incredibly usefull appart from number 5, thats as far as i would agree the staff to be changed, because tbh in gw1 air skills were mostly solo target and only 2 or 3 air skills were aoe i think, they were intended for more damage than fire to single target, but ofc beying mostly single target.
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)
what you are saying is very correct mjharrison, we do need a proper 1200 range viable dps weapon in 1vs1, something like a greatsword maybe, or heck since we have no conjure spell that has main hand sword maybe the mainhanded sword could be it, right now the aoe is clunky for spvp, i dont mind having a 1handed sword and a dagger or a focus that i could properly use in ranged fights and not facetanking enemies like just another melee class ingame…
But changing staff to single target dps isnt very great because we will be horrid for aoe dps and support in pve for example.
turrets can be swapped for another skill and still be viable with them, ranger pets have more control than glyph of elemental has and it can be used to your advantage.
Having no viable elementalist elite skill in a dungeon fight is what this thread topic is about, by no means ive ever said glyph of elemental is a bad skill, im saying i have simply no replacement for the so called elite slot skill in dungeon fights.
Im not here to complain that my glyph is useless because of poor ai, im here to complain i have no viable replacement for it.
If you feel like you are having the same issue but with another class please make a thread about it in its respective class thread.
My comment was in regard to your specific statement, which was specifically about the uselessness of the elemental, and that statement alone. There’s no need to backpedal.
Uhm… okay and my comment was in regard to your specific statement too that other classes suffer from this same issue, when i clearly said that build issues and pet mechanics have nothing to do with this thread title or topic, the thread is about we having no elite skill that is usefull in dungeons, are we having some sort of misscomunication here?
(edited by TheWarKeeper.5374)

If you want proper versatility go engineer, i have both ele and engineer, and engineer is more fun for me than my ele is, it is also less borked.
Also, the turrets are viable in pretty much any fight when traited correctly, except ofc 1 hit kill aoe spam from bosses like Alpha.
I have to admit – I actually thought it was dealing the sum of those numbers, not following up on how much damage have you done so far with the spell. Looks like I have totally missed out on this mechanic. This doesn’t change what I initially wrote – I still think the spell has to be improved in the way it works. If you accidentally end up in water, or simply want to swim on the surface to the other side – the spell will end,
and it will be a premature end.Furthermore, the opening of my post suggests I like the spell. If I was not satisfied with it – I wouldn’t be using it, nor writing a thread about it. But the problems can be very disheartening and I don’t see anything wrong with pointing them out. The part that I ‘never said’ is still not there, quoting me won’t make it magically appear there. This is not a thread made to rant about a spell ending. Read through and you will realize that such comments are unnecessary and untrue.
But what is mostly out of place here is your attitude towards this spell – some made jokes about it, they never use it nor like it. I, on the other hand, do use it and find it very pleasant. I haven’t tried it at lv 80 and with proper gear – but plan to do so in due time, as soon as I level my toon.
The AoE aspect of the sword is superb – you can’t achieve that with any other spell. The only thing I can compare it to is the Piercing Arrows trait of the ranger (R being my main). If you have 10 mobs in a straight line – you can damage all of those 10 mobs simultaneously, dealing tons of damage. You can also cripple them in the same manner. The staff’s aoe attacks can be easily dodged, they are slowish and will never be on par with the AoE side of the sword. I believe the spell has its implications, and fixing all of those small issues will only make the class much more enjoyable. I don’t understand if you don’t realize that or just came here to start a flaming discussion with no end to it.
I also forgot to mention that as far as I know the conjured weapons don’t profit from traits – cooldowns don’t really change if you trait for 20% reduction, and so on.
When you say the aoe part is supperb, do u mean the 5th? u can achieve that with glyph of elemental storm too.
Fiery Greatsword is fun. It controls the battlefield, period. Have you seen how much cripple it can stack? The damage is good and while I’m not sure if it is intended or not, even the auto attack hits multiple tight-knit mobs. Let a friend pick up your other sword and your entire group can kite melee mobs with absolute ease.
I use GS when I staff to switch to high single-target DPS and/or to handle large mobs that my group needs to kite to survive.
That said, I’ll always take a buff, especially in range. I’m also not wild about #4 run skill. The #5 is ok, I suppose.
Tornado is blah
Elementals are both boring and barely effective.
Ty for your comment, this clearly states dungeons and not WvW :P
Lolz. “Battleground” is metaphor. Any large group of mobs will be very well contained with the massive amount of cripple. Time is long-lasting, area of effect is huge. You get in, cripple, and get out quickly.
My comments were meant for PvE setting (especially dungeons).
Ah ok sorry for the confusion, i do more dps with my staff in pve and dungeons than you will do with this skill though, my staff can also cripple and the longer they stay in the same spot the more crippled they will get if i immobilize them its nb aswell, my staff can also chill (better than cripple), daze, heal, make combo fields, combo finishers, combo projectiles and more, i can also evade/dodge more times than you can with GS, i also have twice the range you do with GS, better AOE radius, better AOE, and i gain all of this by NOT using GS, how does this make GS look a good elite? i honestly much prefer ice bow instead, you should try it, its 5th skill actually matters and is better than GS 5th skill too and 1 is utility while the other is elite.
As for GS beying fun, i have no objections to that, i used it when i was level 40 too and i liked it alot back then, but fun is not what the thread is about.
