Really? i do not know what i am talking about? care to explain please because all you have said is that they are 2 different games, so what if they are 2 different games if both have the same class concepts and same class description?
Also i dont think you have been around beta weekends so i must say that it semms to me that you dont know what you are talking about more than i do not know what i am talking about, and the “same old” applies more to you than to me but GG.

You say that but i can say something else, what matters is not what the class currently is but what the official advertised description of the class is, it is clearly an elementalist, it is clearly close to your average mage with more versatility, the current state of this class is just bad, i cant say mediocre because that would mean it could cope vs other classes which it cant.
All in all, the topic is simple, stop telling people that complain about how elementalist is overnerfed that they dont know how to play it cause its a versatile class, hard to learn, nothing like a mage and this or that.
Its pretty boring and far from the truth, class description is pretty easy to understand.

First of all, welcome to all new guild wars franchise players, hope you like the game and enjoy your stay!
Secondly, i keep reading this lets put it uninformed statement all over the ele forum and its getting pretty boring.
Lets look at the facts.
I come from Guild Wars 1, my first class to reach level 20 was elementalist, in Guild Wars 2, my first class to reach level 80 was also elementalist, i have played Guild Wars 1 for more than 4 years so i had the chance to get to know the class pretty well, it was indeed powerfull with air magic and fire magic, inflicting indeed massive damage, it was very versatile thanks to the secondary profession, i had great fun with 300hp build, searing MS and loads of other viable builds for the profession, it was indeed your average mage from WoW with an incredible versatility added to it.

Guild Wars 2 elementalist is called Elementalist, anecdotally A-Net accidentally created an entirely different class with the same name, spells that have the same names aswell and also the same class description! Makes sense?
Please stop trying to teach us that we do not know what we are talking about, please stop telling us to L2P when we say Elementalist is simply underpowered, please stop calling Ele an entirely different profession.
You are only fooling yourselves and others.

Yep, thank you too, it was pretty boring indeed
But this is what you have to do in a mmorpg like gw2, grind grind grind untill u either have the mats or money to buy the thing you want, dungeon, complete dungeon 6 times for 1 weapon, for a full armor set well… u can do ur maths.
This is not a proper elaborated excuse for the nerf, not only in the chest limiter but also the quality of the drops, this event is not here to stay forever it is supposed to give you something better, and the fact is… this already was “this is boring but if i want to make gold this is what i have to do” game, i dont see how it would be boring to make viable break from the only 2 level 80 areas in the entire game by using this area instead for a limited ammount of time, the drops are simply worthless now.
Sorry if it sounded it was directed to you, it was directed to the original thread talk about rogue nerf patch, also, i disagree, for me its not fun when u know ure wasting ur drop potential for no gain, you hf 5-10 mins and then move on after that as theres nothing that appeals or makes ur gametime worth it over lets say a level 80 standard zone, which is a shame as this semms that had at least a bit of effort involved to be developed.
GG i get better loot in cursed shores, 2 greens from 2 champion chests and 1 of them is not even level 80, with full MF set on me, normal mobs drop porous bones and other random junk which you get from sub level 80 areas, even though this clearly is a level 80 area, all in all great quality event, fun spider meshes, ruined completely by anet nerf standard seal of approval.
:{ at least we know its gonna get fixed at some point since its exploitable, ty all for ur help into finding a solution to overcome this nuisance!
med kit goes into the 6th slot so ineed to hit 6, in pvp hitting 6 again unequips the medkit, hitting 6 in pve does not unequip it at all, it is very annoying bug, even though u can use the \ for it i feel like using the skill should also unequip it as all other weapon kits behave that way.
Hey guys i find it very strange nobody is talking about this but i like using medkit since my build is pretty much full support, in pvp it semms to be fine but in pve, if i switch to med kit, i cannot switch back to weapon unless i switch skills after the fight is over, this is really annoying, is this something t hat only i am experiencing or everyone else? i find it rly strange that anet didnt fix t his problem for so long too :S
Yeah and after 100 patches, if 1 patch comes after the other in 2 days, we are unrealistic because we expect a class to be fixed within 2 days.
Also, ive said Staff DPS is useless, which is the only full range way of dealing damage.
I would be more than happy to have a proper dps weapon at full range, or just rename this class to something else since its clearly not an elementalist but more of a mix of paragon and horrible gw1 elementalist support in disguise.
I dont see why what i am asking is unreasonable, most melee classes can easelly jump or teleport at you making ur full ranged ability not so great.

And surprise surprise, my guardian deals more aoe dps on auto attack with full exotic cleric than my ele does with semi berserker/rampager and only 2 pieces of sapphire items with fireballs ever will.
Staff dps still useless in spvp and melee range buffed forcing players into melee even more than before, for you D/D users this might be excelent, for us Elementalist purists who came from GW1 and other games that played mages this is not only meaningless to us but also clearly shows that A-Net is forcing the class in the way its not meant to be played.
So your concept of clear buff, is clearly nothing for us, except making us consider D/D even more.
As for downed state, its trully the only buff that actually affects the entire class.
Yes thats excelent update, and symbol of wrath is good too, however i feel the pain for others having the save urselves nerf, its completely kitten
And surprise surprise, making this even more a melee class, i believe the first expansion pack either releases a proper elementalist with a different name or looses popularity quite fast.

I would like someone to explain why ritualists are no longer part of the game? (As well as dervishes. . . . I’m giving ANet the benefit of the doubt that paragons are subsumed by guardians and assassins are thiefs.)
It seems odd that an entire discipline known by the human race was completely forgotten or wiped out in only 250 years.
Another problem youll find is that we have engineer, in essence the gameplay is ritualist.
Making a ritualist now would make a copycat of engineer and that would not work good enough to make a whole new class that is so identical to an engineer, also having played an engineer i do not miss ritualists at all.
Depends what you mean strong, Norn and Charr are phisically strong, sylvari was never meant to be about that, i find ur question interesting.

with my staff ele i can kill a risen abomination level 80 and non veteran ofc in 6 seconds, dunno why u take 20 seconds o.O

I was thinking about this too, give them a GreatSword, put all staff skills into the greatsword and completely remake staff from scratch.
EDIT: or just do that to the greatsword, and hopefully soon people talking about elementalists with staves will be nothing but a myth in this game :P
I keep telling this to people and they keep telling me its challenging, theres nothing challenging about elementalist in gw2, its simply underpowered and no set of magical “skillz” will ever make up for that.
Pve ele for me is ok, i do ok in dungeons, i heal acceptably and deal average dps with full exotic, SPVP however its a complete joke, and if you play with staff its a complete list of bad jokes.
Ive been playing Ele and engineer for these days all level 80, with exotic gear, my ele is no match for my engineer, be it on spvp or in pve, also i will refuse to use daggers just cause its the only mediocre way to deal damage in pvp, i just rather keep my staff and keep out of spvp entirely with that class, for me elementalist was never about forcing go melee range in PVP and i find this concept silly since ive played elementalist on GW1 aswell.
Dont know how u played as an elem.
My ele is now 67 with all equipments below lvl 50. but im happy hunting in a 60-70 area.
ele kills mob faster than Necro and Eng its true. u can see i have 2 80 characters they are Necro and Eng all with 100% map exploration.
ele kill any mob 2-5 lvl higher then me in 12sec(3 times staff skill 2, thats costs 2*4.8sec) while eng kill the same lvl mob in about 20-30 sec and Necro in 15-45sec(depend on minions’ mind).
I have engineer and ele too, fully leveled both with exotic gear for both, there is no way in hell elementalist is even close to engineer DPS or survivability. 1 word Grenadier.
alright, i had to remove my singet of fire and my glyph of lesser elementals, replaced with the teleporter thing which usefull but bugged (it misses to cast for some reason sometimes… and the cooldown still applies) and the second skill beying armor of earth, it helps me more survive now, however staff is still incredibly underpowered, i dont understand how can my criticals only do 2k damage (critical) per meteor with the berserker pendant but theres no way im switching earth to fire or arcana to fire.

I see that many people are having no issues with thieves playing with elementalist, i guess ill have to rethink my build then.
Hello guys, yesterday it was the first day i decided to try my ele on spvp, just to see how terribly i would do, i went with a tank build so i tought “ok this is not going to 1 hit kill me fer shurr” and i was right, however everytime i faced a thief, i literally had no control over the class, as soo as it got into my spell range, it teleported to me, dazed me took me like 80% of hp, dazed me again to make sure i wouldnt get to move my char and killed me, all this happened in less than 5 seconds, in which i had absolutely no control over my character, this then repeated itself in every single encounter vs that thief unless it focused on someone else first so i could take a whack at it.
Anyone has any idea what im doing wrong? besides playing with staff? daggers is rly not my thing for ele, i do not see a mage wearing daggers for melee range in any other mmorpg that i have tried, that includes GW1, so i dont want to change weapons just for that, i choosen a ranged caster not a melee caster.
Having that in mind, is there any way to be effective in spvp with staff to actually be able to take down a target, or am i stuck having to stay behind a tree, wait for everyone else to get aggro and then come and cast my spells?
Frankly, they have totally overdone the melee, theres almost no disavantage into beying a melee class in this game, my ranged caster is no longer able to keep away unless i climb something which takes time to get to, on the ground its a mere jump to target or teleport to target, i find this far to OP since when u fight a melee class it can get to u in a matter of 1 second or less with its leaps or teleports.
PS, full berserker or full cleric vs the thief had no difference at all, the result was exactly the same.

The current “meteor” wannabe skill is a total joke in comparison to gw1, its bloody awfull for hiting anything besides HUGE bosses or constructions, the randomness crap is just not worth the use of this skill in most situations, it also does not KD, again, a joke in comparison to elementalist gw1 meteor shower.
This game strategy wise is limited to how u move ur char and casting the skills at a determined time, thats all this game is reduced to tbh, the reason why i liked gw1 was because u had so many options, so many viable builds you could make, your skillbar skill choices actually mattered and had a big impact on the gameplay, elite skills were rightfully elite, liberty to choose whatever skill u wanted in your skill bar unlike this game and so on, in everything except graphics and the swiming/jumping ability, gw1 wins for me and it doesnt win just barely it wins by alot.
Why do people say this is a difficult class to master? all u have to do is time ur F1-F4 swaps and spam what is suitable for the occasion, what exactly do i need to L2P for that?
Do you guys somehow consider urself counter strike professionals or something? this is NOTHING hard to play with, if its not for me, its not for anyone else as i do not consider myself special, this is the crappy excuse that is used for this class to not get buffed, also, as for the people who said that elementalist isnt your random WoW mage, im afraid i have to ask.
If guild wars 1 elementalist was exactly that, and gw1 elementalist was called elementalist, and gw1 elementalist was trully a versatile class with amazing tanking and dps capabilities, croud control skills and so on, and if GW2 elementalist is also called elementalist, and gw2 elementalist description states exactly what a “WoW mage” and GW1 elementalist is.
How come we are fools to expect it to be an elementalist?
im happy that youve found a build that made you happy, let me know how it turns out vs players that actually knows how to play.
In the meanwhile, if anyone trully likes AOE damage and realises this class is just ridiculously horrid, in pretty much every single concept apart from healing, should try a full grenadier build on engineer, now thats what i call aoe with full berserker gear u can easelly reach 3k damage+ per “auto attack” and best of all, its aoe, all grenadier skills are aoe, they poison properly, they slow down people properly, they bleed ok too and the F1-4 ability for the grenadier can easelly surpass 5k damage with no mediocre casting time ever get into your way and with the proper traitlines, never see any skill come close to 30 seconds recharge time. There is your elementalist right there! an ele tried to get smart and ninja aoe on me, as soon as ive noticed that obvious lava font i just dodged near him and started to nuke the crap out of him, needless to say he was dead in 4 seconds.
Eles are only acceptable at pve and if they are not underwater, anything aoe eles cast is no match for any player with brains, save perhaps the phoenix.
Also, i do not understand how people say staff is a viable weapon in pvp by nuking people who are concentrated in another fight, are you serious? in what world is that viable, nobody that actually gives a dam about spvp will ever camp in ur aoes, its just not going to happen in any serious fight, maybe just for the lol to test the guys damage, other than that i have no clue how that will ever happen, its huge, its loud, its there and u can notice it from every angle unless ure looking directly at the sky.

also, its rather sad when my engineer can freely use weapon kits back and forth with only 1 second of delay, unlimited ammount of time left and unlimited usage, they are also not elite skills, the same could not be said about fiery greatsword for example, this class is clearly made for kids who thinks looking cool is the only thing that matters.
I will never understand these poor decisions and i will never understand why they think a proper elementalist wasnt good enough for the game.
lol, after seeying those vids all i can say is my engineer annihilates that ele build, infact the eles are so squishy for me they are easier to kill than necros, and i mean MUCH easier, ive only seen 1 ele which won a battle vs my engineer friend, the engineer was focused on pure dps but since he had no experience with what eles could cast he kept shooting himself most of the time.
Ill surely get bored of the game if melee range buffs will be the only thing that this class will have, this is an insult to the original Elementalist class in GW1, pathetic the only ranged caster reduced to melee caster.

Also i forgot to add, what most people dont realise for staff, is not that the damage is crap excluding the atrocious fire number 5 skill, the damage is quite good, the problem is it is good ONLY in PVE, you will never deal even half the damage in PVP as u deal with it in pve, all the long and horrid casting times makes it a complete waste of time and useless weapon except as others said for healing, mage master of magic, doing far worse at his own weapon than other classes do with it, its quite embarrassing.
Why am i forced in pvp to switch from mage main weapon to something that has absolutely nothing to do with the class in the first place? like the freaking daggers… who comes up with these ideas? elementalist might aswell just get this cool looking glock pistol yo!

Because, they want elementalist to be very discontempt with all these nerfs, quite possibly more to come, later then when they are done nerfing the already fully nerfed class they will give us a random crap and pointless buff or a full list of random and crap and pointless buffs so we get deluded into saying “Wow! nice move, finally some buffs!!” when the truth is those buffs will be irrelevant to make any difference in battle.
We already have an example, that is lightning whip, any serious player will laugh at “beying able to hit up to 3” crap buff, its completely useless when u cant survive 2 for more than 3 seconds, and then make some new members go like “Oh yay wth u talkin about datz da thang dude now my ele gonna rock!!!”, you could make lightning whip be able to hit any ammount of players rather than limit it to 3, it would make 0 difference.
This is their plan, in the end giving us the illusion of a buff when in reality weve been far more nerfed to make those buffs even reach the original state of elementalist.
Sorry to see so many ppl reminding me of playing guild wars 1, “Izzy” or Isaiah Cartwright was there too, and i can assure u, the professionalism involved in GW2 is no better than in GW1, in GW1 they nerfed the warrior class because paragon class was using too many warrior skills, paragon main class nerfed to death, monk smiter’s boon skill nerfed to death because he wasnt bothered to think about it, leaving an official comment that they were aware of that horrid nerf and hes probably going to fix it one day, even though we are in 2012 and 4 years have passed and still exactly the same state for that skill.
Every person i questioned in gw1 about whos making these balance changes, every single one of them said Izzy, nobody else but this 1 guy, and since hes the designer of the game, his job is exactly the same in gw2, so as soon as i stop enjoying the game ill move on to my fav games again, i feel this game will be as much of a failure of a sequel like unreal tournament 3 was to unreal tournament 2004, all they had to do was add jump ability and give us better graphics, instead they reduced 1000+ skill choices to no true choices in the effort of making their job easier to balance a crappy and laughable built class that nobody in his right mind would use in guild wars 1 with all the control we had back then.
Elementalist in GW2 is the new Paragon! i guess these guys dont learn from their mistakes.

What do u expect from a company which claims to revolutionize the mmorpg and to be against grinding…
I got a level 80 engineer, and with full MF gear survives better and deals more damage, with lower casting time, lower recharge time, more hp, more self sufficient than my ele full berserker exotic armor and staff, with arcana and earth and 10 points in air.
yeeey our only elite underwater skills gets even better! frankly i would be happy to trade elite skill slot for a normal slot, thats how crap elite skills are for ele, the only more or less ok skill is glyph of elementals

Nerfed from 5 energy cost to 25, from 10 seconds recharge to 90, from 30 seconds duration to 5.
And heres what Izzy says:
In a Developer update, ArenaNet stated, “We recognize that the changes to this skill will essentially remove it from play. In the future, we may consider whether or not there is an incarnation of this skill that would be viable but balanced. For now, we do not expect it to see serious use.”
4 years have passed and the skill is still in exact same shape, im glad PVP in that game disgusted me to a point it i didnt care if they would make all skills for monk like that as separate PVE skill list most of the times they were different.
AFAIK Izzy is still incharge of gw2, as soon as ive read that deep inside i knew to some point the professionalism in handling balance issues was still present in this game, these current GW2 patch notes mean nothing, at best it means the ele will never really get a proper buff and get what i call jokes like this one.
I assume the next buff will allow eles to gain 1hp per every person it is currently receiving damage at close range, or make ele throw 2 rocks instead of 1 if its currently receiving >5k damage per second, it was a failed strategy from their part to give us the illusion they are working on it and make us shut up and wait for the next update, looking forward tanking 3 guys with my current 10k hp
If i didnt make an engi few days ago i would probably RQ the game untill most or everything about this class was fixed, this is quite embarrassing since they have claimed for them 5 weeks is alot, yet one of the most broken classes and easelly the most underpowered class gets no attention at all, the only bug fixes that were done were the ones that actually helped us.
A demonstration of quality and costumer caring by A-net is starting to form on my mind however its far from pleasant, i see the class balance fixes are as good as class balance fixes in gw1, and for those who do not know, class fixes in gw1 were an utter joke, same applied to the professionalism executing them (pointing at Smiter’s Boon)
