1. Good job linking to the same kitten video that proves what? Zerker mobs take extra damage? Whoopdidoo. Missed the part thakittens a channeled skill? It can be easily interupted? Thief can do 10k… in 1 hit… uninteruptible… and its not chanalled.
2. Tank? What… you tank w/o stability? Really… what exactly that you are tanking lowbies in wvw? Or squirrels? Good job. For every cupcake video of someone trashing lowbies theres a guardian sitting on a node with 10 lowbies that can’t even get past his passive regens.

Quit linking videos that prove absolutely nothing past someone bothered to film a perfect scenario.

And your post screams that you lack basic english skills. I can’t even really tell what point you’re trying to make.

Necromancers can also put out insane amounts of DoT with conditions. Or they can do both these things at the same time with builds like the Nemesis hybrid.

So we’ve established that as a raw DPS class, they are on par with the best in the game.

DPS isn’t your thing? They can also tank and heal almost as well as a guardian can, they can put out ridiculous amounts of CC with fear and torment.

As for “I can barely get Ghastly Claws off without dying” then it sounds like you’re probably terrible at the game, unless you’re talking about PVP in which case you should not be using axe in pvp. Necromancers are fine in pvp as it is, their ultimate skills lich form and plague are practically “I Win” buttons in almost any fight, corrupt boon is godlike, their ability to support in team fights with wells and marks is godlike. There are a lot of counters to these things, sure, but it all depends on how you use them and the skill of the players. It’s balanced.

This. They have a history of nerfing minion classes and any good things they have into the ground. They don’t want anybody using minions or enjoying them. You may be doubting this, but let me assure you if necromancers had been meant to raise minion armies, the minion armies wouldn’t suck as badly as they always have in this game. Also there would be more then like 5 of them.

Have you tried relogging to another character? This usually resets the dungeon “token” or ID that put your character in a new instance. Leaving squad or just logging out and coming back does not work.

I have tried all known solutions, sometimes they work, many times they do not.

Had a while about two days ago where I just could not get into ANY groups, like seriously 10+ different ones I join and went through the entire gambit of relogging, character switching, closing and relaunching the client, etc. Could not get into any of them. Then it struck me to try guesting to a different server, so I went to Tarnished Coast, got the prompt to join, and it worked. So far this is the only thing that solves the problem 100% of the time, but you’re limited to doing it 2 times a day.

Anet, why? Why do you have to take all the fun things out of your game just because they’re not being used the way you intended them to? DS tanking wasn’t broken. It wasn’t unfair. It wasn’t cheap. It didn’t trivialize any of the content. It was just a cool fun thing that my class could do. A class that is horrifically short on cool fun things.

Other classes can teleport themselves and their party members, launch themselves across large gaps, go invisible, etc. All lots of cool fun niche mechanics, a lot of which are to this day abused in order to skip dungeon content or other things that are actively broken. The Necromancer? He could survive oneshot damage with the power of death. This did NOT break anything, it was just a fun perk of the class. If I was at the end of a fractals run and we were short on crystals, I could give up mine for another party member and just DS tank the final laser. If we were in wvw and needed to revive someone who was knocked off a cliff, I could take care of that. It added some niche utility to an otherwise very boring class. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS FROM ME.

There is biweekly releases of new content to keep you busy, if you concentrate on bugs that are almost a year old……….aaaaah, never mind, I see where your going with that.

Purely an opinion of mine but 90% of this bi-weekly content has been complete guff. Regardless, it’s generally prudent to fix your existing content before you add to it.

I don’t know what universe anyone lives in where this kind of thing is acceptable to be a problem for more then a WEEK, it happens in something like 60% of the groups I and many others try to join. If fixing this isn’t your highest priority at this point, it really needs to be.

I’m fairly certain it was the original “game release” page for Retribution at

But that was replaced after the patch was deployed. It specifically stated that the dungeon would change and offer “different experiences”, implying randomly generated dungeon layouts.

The problem I’m having with these guides is that they’re from the perspective of a co-ordinated group of players who use niche teamwork, like I notice in the arah videos you frequently have one player draw some mobs away so the rest of the group can get through, and that’s a great thing to know about if you’re playing with the guild and you’re on teamspeak but I found that in pub groups randomly formed on GW2LFG people tend to not do that kind of thing. Would be better if you went over the kind of things more casual groups are going to try to get through the content, what to expect and what’s expected of you to hold your own playing through these dungeons with a group of people you’ve never met or spoken to before so you don’t end up being that guy who holds the group back.

You can never afford to use axe and dagger at the same time because you need aoe damage and control, and staff is your only source of it besides axe #3.

And death shroud 4, and well of suffering, and epidemic, and plague.

You’re right though that the axe shouldn’t deal as much damage as the dagger, because if it did no one would use dagger due to the range disadvantage, but as it is now the axe could be buffed considerably before it even came close to having as much dps as the dagger.

It just seems to me that increasing the damage of Rending Claws by about 50% would
a) actually make the attack worth using, ever
b) give necros a means of dealing almost decent damage to structures from range

Currently when it comes to structures, necros have a small number of options. They can use Necrotic Slash, but this requires you to be in melee range and also in a power build that actually uses main hand dagger. They can use minions, but minions just aren’t great and the AI will usually go attack some nearby mobs instead of the structure you want them to focus down. Staff autoattack is kind of okay-ish, but staff as a whole really relies on the autoattack combined with the dots from Mark of Blood and Chillblains to actually maintain any kind of reasonable DPS. Axe is usually regarded as a worthless weapon, even builds that use it for the Ghastly Claws spike damage don’t use the autoattack because it has less DPS then any of the other options available to the necromancer at any given time.

Interested in hearing what other people think about this.

Also may as well use this topic for another suggestion I wanted to make;
Include the Death Shroud skills under the weapon skills tab in the hero panel, as well as other sub form skills like the abilities you have in Lich Form and Plague, for the purposes of making these much easier to familiarize with and remember.

I honestly find it shameful that it’ll be impossible to run my necro in PUGs because people will just want warriors/mesmers/guardians. I mean, jeez, I made him so I could go into dungeons with an army of undead by my side, not get rejected because I can’t just stand there and do like 5k damage in a matter of seconds.

Perhaps a slight revamp of their skills is in order? Maybe make the minions do something more than “They attack, and sometimes they explode”?

I guess in the end I just find it pitiful that ANet designed three solid classes and three subpar classes (and one decent class, cough cough thief).

Minions can be effective when used correctly.

There are a few ways you can play Necro that are devastatingly effective. There are quite a few ways to play a necro that are completely worthless. This is the same for ALL OTHER CLASSES AS WELL. In dungeons, bringing a necro with 5 minion skills is like bringing a 5 signet warrior. It a way to play the class that kind of maybe works a bit and can beat renown heart content okay, but it’s very very suboptimal in dungeons.

If you want to be good in endgame pve, go try one of Nemesis’s builds.

Had this problem both times I’ve tried to join the molten facility today.

I zone into disea plateu and get no prompt to join the instance. I relog and get the prompt, but when I click it, nothing happens. I walk up to the instance and enter it manually, and I get put in a different instance from the rest of my group. I walk back out and leave and rejoin the group, I get the prompt again, I click it, nothing happens. I walk up to the entrance again and click to enter and nothing happens. I walk back a bit then try to walk up to the entrance again and don’t even get the prompt to enter. I get the impression that the game is just trying and failing to connect me to their instance.

Afterward I tried to enter the facility solo, not in a group, and I couldn’t get in. Same issue where I would walk up to the entrance, click enter, and nothing would happen. This would persist until I relogged.

This happened with two separate groups, about 4 hours apart, with the instance hosted on different servers.

Why are these not fixed yet?

I’m frankly astonished that this game is such a horrifically bug-ridden mess 8 months after release. Would really like to see what the anet staff does with their time, because they evidently haven’t been producing any worthwhile new features or content and they haven’t fixed many of the major issues with things not working the way they are supposed to.

I’ll take a look at how it compares to Necro staff auto. I will say that when this does hit it is the highest DPS #1 skill in the game. We wanted it to feel this powerful but difficult to land but the effect may be too exaggerated. I’ll play some PvE and PvP scepter Guardian later today.

Thanks for responding Jon, I think its long overdue.

It maybe the highest dps in the game WHEN it hits. Problem is in pvp it never does really. The attacks are so slow and tend to miss the target even if they move slightly.

Also smite is just as bad. Sometimes the attacks do not register. Fixing skills 1 and 2 for scepter would be a big improvement. I’d actually use the weapon!

I would kill to have a skill that hits that hard from range as a necro, would mean we could actually deal some damage to structures. That looks like it’d be beast as hell in PVE. Not everything has to be designed around being good in PVP. Necro staff is almost worthless in PVE but good in PVP.

Problem’s back.

Have had some minor annoyances with not getting into dungeons immediately, but usually once I could get the pop up and hit enter it would work.

Just now, went into a MWF group, went into the area, got the pop up, clicked enter, nothing happened. Relogged, didn’t fix it. Closed and restarted the client, didn’t fix it. Left and was reinvited to the group, didn’t fix it. Walked over to and entered the dungeon manually, put me in a separate instance. Included is a screenshot of us in the separate dungeon instances, they’re all in “Molten Facility (Stormbluff Isle)” while I am presumably in “Molten Facility (Sea of Sorrows)”.

Starting to get really kitten off by these reoccurring issues, this is a severe game-braking bug that seems to be affecting most of the population.

Since the latest patch, all my issues with this appear to have been resolved, haven’t had any bugs in getting into dungeons or dungeon groups.

I get the feeling all our party bugs in the past and now, today, this insanity that prevents us from playing the game are all due to one thing. Having an EU account, but playing/having transferred into an US server.

I can see two people in my friendlist that are online and they’re both “leftovers” from when I played on EU servers.

But really I hope anet’s not going to tell us to transfer back to EU servers. My enjoyment of the game would drop down to 0% if I had to go back to fix all this party madness that has been affecting me, like having to leave/join groups back because the party list doesn’t get refreshed, or because I can’t join the instance, or having to guest to reset a few variables.

Nope, I’ve been on Sea of Sorrows since launch, never been on an EU server.

Had the same problem with a fractals group in lion’s arch, and this caused even more problems as I couldn’t get into their instance without a pop up box. As you can see in the third shot, they’re in level 13 and I could only access level 12.

Tried joining several groups for CoF explorable mode, each time my party menu was completely empty, and I received confirmation in /p chat that the party was indeed full. I was able to join them in the instance by walking in, but not being able to see their health bars or status made things difficult.

I tried relogging, leaving and being re-invited to the group, exiting and re-launching the game, nothing seemed to correct this issue.

As I was sitting around in the final story instance, listening to that nice music, I had a bit of a think.

Trahearne’s like, this kitten that you don’t like at all, but you have to work with as a part of your job. Meanwhile you’re essentially batman, doing all the heavy lifting and not really giving a kitten about whether or not people know you did it. You care about getting the job done, whatever it takes. Right there at the end, Trahearne isn’t even there, he’s off being a kitten while it’s basically just you and an airship and a lot of cannons vs zhaitan, also I guess 4 other players and destiny’s edge, but no one cares about or notices them.

You win, you head back, you stop by Trahearne’s place, you tell him he’s a kitten and never to contact you again, then you head out and celebrate with the people, throw a few fireworks, and just enjoy your victory. “Fear Not This Night” is like your personal theme song, no matter how dark things get, you’ll be there to do the right thing and make the difference.

That’s how it happened in my head and I enjoyed it a lot more that way. It may be egotistical as hell, but screw you, what happened to ‘personal’ story.

I’m having this problem EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to join a group in a dungeon.

Tried it in two instances, Fractals of the Mists, and Citadel of Flame.

Normally, when I get invited to or join a dungeon group, I get no pop up when they go inside, or if I do get a pop up, when I click to join party in the dungeon instance, nothing happens. Usually I have to do a full exit and relaunch of the game in order to fix this and make the pop up dialogue work. Sometimes leaving and getting re-invited to the group works as well.

With the fractals instance, I always go over to the portal and try to enter manually before relogging, and it always tries to put me into a different instance. Example, the party will be in a level 16 fractal, I get no pop up or the pop up doesn’t work, I walk over to the portal and it asks me if I want to enter the dungeon at my reward level, which is lower then that. I’ve tested this and actually gone into the dungeon anyway, and it does indeed put me into a new fractals dungeon totally separate to the one the rest of the group is in.

Just had one where I could not get in at all, tries relogging and getting reinvited about 5 times, the group exited and re-started the dungeon and I tried relogging and getting re-invited again and nothing we did managed to work.

This is a horrific bug that I would be surprised to see in a beta client, let alone a game 8 months into release, you guys really need to get on this.

Cliff fractal bugged, cannot complete

We broke both seals on the giant’s arms, the cultists all disappeared, but the gate to the next area didn’t open. Tried wiping the party, this reset the seals on the arms, but the cultists didn’t respawn. This was extremely aggravating, as this was our 3rd fractal and then suddenly we have to restart.

I’ve had the Super Scepter skin for a few days now and I really, really really wish I hadn’t. This thing makes an annoying noise CONSTANTLY while it is drawn. I wish I could get my one gold back, moto can keep the bloody bauble bubbles.

I would have previously agreed with OP on the death shroud thing, but now that I’m using Nemesis.8593’s “ultimate hybrid” build where I use the 1 and 4 abilities of DS in my normal attack rotations I feel like this was the way it was intended to be used, and it is extremely effective as a means of continuing to dish out damage in between long skill/weapon cooldowns, but it could defnitely be improved some more, I mean I don’t even remember what abilities 2 and 3 do because I’ve never used them aside from spamming all my abilities when I am about to die.

I wholeheartedly agree with the general sentiment though, the Necro is pretty much the only class that doesn’t have any kind of cool tricks it can do and it’s weapon skills are definitely not prone to inventive play. Before switching to Nemesis’s cool build I played a self-designed minion build and the only thing I ever did was stand around autoattacking monsters with scepter while my minions tanked and killed it. It worked, but it was boring as hell.

It was just like playing WoW.

You need to find whoever did the voice acting for Trahearne and get your money back, anet. The dialogue writing isn’t great, but the line delivery is what makes it aggravatingly dull to listen to / be around this character.

I’ve never found death shroud to be any use, to the point where I literally forget to use it, every time I die I think like a minute later “Oh hey, I totally forgot about death shroud, that might have helped there” but I figure it actually wouldn’t have helped so much because death shroud has no damage. I might have been able to tickle off 1/8th of the enemies health bar with my DS attacks and then died all the same. I just don’t see how it’s supposed to be useful when it’s so weak compared to my normal minions + bleed damage attacks.

I'd rather have reanimator disabled until a fix is ready.

Even IF the Jagged Horror had proper AI, didn’t cause random aggro, and didn’t give free rallies in pvp, it’s STILL be a completely worthless piece of ####, it never lives long enough to get in a single attack, and even if it does, it’s attack does such miniscule worthless amounts of damage as to be completely useless. If they removed it’s bleed out time and just made it a normal minion it would be kind of ok, but as it is it’s just a waste.

Why would you just delete a character like that? I find that extremely weird to throw out something you’ve put so much work into.

I only ever intend to play the one character, so I will be buying extra bag slots for him, but I understand that’s something unusual for MMO players. I think it would be universally weird to even think about deleting a character you’ve spent more then an hour playing though. Push comes to shove, you’d just buy an extra character slot.

EDIT: I’d just like to point out while I love that GW2 can have a real thriving economy inside it, the main goal for a game should always be fun. I should enjoy collecting mats and crafting items and enjoy my profit. In the current economy I feel like a sweatshop worker making only a few coppers profit every now and then.

Can’t be done with the gem system they have in place. That instantly makes everything to do with money extra super srs bsns. If making money is easy, gold loses it’s value. Simple principle of the more there is of something, the less it’s worth. This is how real world exchange rates work, and guild wars 2 money has to work the same way for the concept of the gem store to work.

If they made it so you could just casually make money like that in an easy and fun way, the only thing that would happen is that gold would become the new silver, silver would become the new copper, etc. The easier it is to make, the less it’s going to be worth. This effect would stack cumulatively.

The issue here is that people are really, REALLY stupid as hell and don’t actually look at the item listing before selling it. They just go sell, see money, and click on it. Or they’re really interested in getting a quick sale and don’t care about profit margins because they didn’t buy the item in the first place – they farmed it manually, and follow the common misconception that if you farm the item yourself, you’re getting it “free” which is completely wrong and borderline kitten

Nothing. This is the goal, here. Do you not have a basic understanding of how capitalism works? Whoever is willing to sell for less will get the sale, this is called a competitive market. You have to fight other sellers economically to make a profit, and this leads to the best value for the consumer. Have a look at how EvE works, that game has the best and most realistic economy of any online game ever.

I don’t 100% support this as it would cut into my profits in playing the market, but that’s just me being selfish. The ability to adjust sell orders competitively would be better for the game overall and lead to a more stable market, you wouldn’t see the huge fluctuations in pricing that we frequently get at the moment.

Since I bought the game a week after launched, I’ve watched the amount of gems I can buy for 1g steadily drop from around 400 to almost half that.

The earlier price I would have considered steep but reasonable, as the price is now I would not consider it feasible to buy gems with gold. The concern I have is that it looks like the pricing of the gems players want to sell cannot be manually set, you just punch in how much you want to give and the game tells you how much you’re going to get whether you’re buying or selling gems, so how are the prices determined? Are anet just inflating the value of gems over time purposefully to try and force people to buy them with real money, as well as inciting people who want more gold to get it by buying gems with cash and selling them in game?

I’m actually in two minds about buying a bunch of gems right now because the prices show no signs of going back up, but if it does I’ll have wasted a lot of money. Before someone comments on it, don’t kid yourself, a couple gold coins IS a lot of money.

As for the question about PuG’s for explorable dungeons, we’ve said all along that explorable dungeons are intended for highly organized/skilled groups of players. That is absolutely the case

And don’t you see how entirely contradictory that is to the, literally, entire rest of the game that is designed with dynamic scaling and a “everyone can join in” model?

The dungeons are contradiction to the entire rest of GW2’s design.

I think that’s the point, though.

A lot of people ragged on GW2 for being a “casual” mmo where anyone can jump in and have fun.

Of course they want to appeal to the hardcores too, so they have this challenge “raid” content, only in keeping with the guild wars style the gear there doesn’t make you naturally more powerful because that would be unfair. It’s a really nice balance.

The only thing I’m really worried about is that whole business about specific party builds being created and being the only thing people will take with them in groups while maybe some classes that are seen as less useful like say, mine, necromancer, being unable to do this content, but hopefully anet will make sure that doesn’t happen. Please.

Consider the cooking and potion buffs to be another equipment slot. Right now, every crafting profession at least tries to offer something that every profession can use. If cooking and potion buffs weren’t “necessary” for explorables, cooks and artificers would be among the least desirable professions—nobody would really need them.

Given that explorable dungeons are meant to be completed only by coordinated and skilled groups, it seems believable that you may have a cook and/or artificer in the group of people you play with. They should be providing the party with food and potion buffs so that everyone does better.

Another thing that makes me reallykitten off that so many people leveled cooking to 400 back when karma vendors sold really cheap ingredients for a pittance and anyone who wants to start now has to spend a hell of a lot more time or money. That whole situation almost makes me want to never touch crafting, ever, even though I’ve been harvesting and saving up materials all the time I’ve been playing.

The one thing that bothers me is “use of cooking/consumable buffs (these make a huge difference!)”

This was the main thing I really violently hated about the endgame in Tera during the brief time I played it. The endgame was entirely dependent on having expensive consumables and this was a huge annoyance and money sink for the whole community, you were basically lucky to break even in the raids, let alone profit at all. Maybe the fact that these consumables are player made instead of being sold by an NPC, and that GW2 doesn’t have the ungodly gear grind that Tera had, but I still feel like for the dungeons to be an enjoyable challenge, they should be based entirely on skill, not how much gold you can throw at them.

Anyone know what happened to the Chef Vendors?

They could have just left crafting as it was, that would have at least been fair to everyone. Now we have a part of the population running around who maxed out cooking for almost no cost and the rest of us have to throw a crapload of time and gold at it to get on the same level.

The money sink is there to balance the economy. If people didn’t have to spend gold to get around, your gold would be worth less, because there would be more of it. The fact that it’s an optional money sink makes it even better for min-maxing your wallet.

According to my account under “linked accounts” is says my accounts have been linked properly.

According to https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/claiming-your-hall-of-monuments-rewards/ I should have gotten some kind of portal stone, but I have received no such item.

My character, Tobias Mordan, had 6 points, enough to unlock the full heritage set.

Cannot create a character.

Tried to set home as sea of sorrows, it instead gave me some randomkitten server in europe and then I couldn’t create my character. Hope it doesn’t cost me to change that.
