People said back on launch, “hey, corruption skills are really stupid. Maybe there could be some kind of play where you gain damage based on the number of conditions on you and also have a means to reduce condition damage on yourself”

So they took that amazing idea, and then they put it in a different class that you will have to pay for an expansion to access.

First they took the “basejumpmancer” off of death shroud where it was understandably too good having the ability to instantly tank any fall just by sacrificing your life force, and instead put it on a utility with a 60 second cooldown. This was fine. Wasting one of only three utility slots on a long cooldown just to tank fall damage is FINE. STOP NERFING NECRO.

Why doesn’t ether renewal have a 30 second cd, huh? HUH? You ***holes. The vuln on consume conditions is easily 100x worse of a penalty then the channel time on ether renewal.

What do you do when fighting subject alpha or lupi, where you need to dodge pretty much every second attack he does and your endurance doesn’t regenerate remotely fast enough?

Seems like the only option we have for increased endurance regen is either

-sacrifice a bunch of time, money, bag space, and dps to carry around a second set of weapons with sigils of energy

-use a relatively expensive consumable, the Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew, which provides less then half the amount of endurance regen that vigor does, and popping 20 silver just for these fights is just unreasonable.

Signet of Vampirism needs to change.

All it effectively does is reduce each packet of incoming damage by 342. This is NOTHING.

Warriors and Elementalists have signet heals and their passives are AMAZING. Why do we get stuck with this trash?

I want the old animation back and I want axe buffed so it is actually worth using.

Using axe is a DPS loss, no matter how you swing it. I wish it wasn’t because applying vuln on autoattack is really cool, but there is no situation where you would take this over a mainhand dagger.

They’re basically removing all underwater content from the game, it’s been completely removed from PvP so far, and they’re ignoring the world completion stuff.

This part of GW2 is being swept under the rug and they’re hoping you’ll forget about it.

Also minions are bad and you should use a better build.

If anything, lich form needs to be made to work underwater since it’s key to dealing with tough champion mobs and etc, only reason it isn’t is because they couldn’t figure out a way to make targeted aoes work underwater. It won’t change though, because as above, anet just wants you to forget underwater content exists.

Unless you’ve got resources and gold to spare, or 3000 CoF tokens lying around, I wouldn’t actually go gear a necro immediately. There are some ideas about how reaper meta might be considerably different, like how you can get 50% crit chance from vuln, and then 50% crit chance while in death shroud, you hit 100% crit chance without ever getting a single point of precision, so maybe it’ll become the meta that reapers don’t use precision gear and instead get power/ferocity/toughness or some other people were talking about if they were to add power/ferocity/conditiondamage gear it would be BiS for reaper.

How could anyone be happy that it scales with condition damage?

Greatsword is your only method of applying perma-chill, and 99% of the damage on greatsword is power type damage.

All they’ve done is make this trait useless to people who actually use greatsword. Condi builds might see some fitting it in somewhere, but those builds aren’t going to be able to keep chill on a target without swapping to greatsword and losing all of their bleeds, poisons, and other conditions. Switching from scepter to GS to apply chill could only be a DPS loss.

You didn’t like what’s on offer and that’s okay. So you didn’t follow it or stay with it. No one owes you anything. You did receive what you paid for. That’s all. It happens.

It’s happened to all of us at one time or another. You didn’t HAVE TO uninstall the game. You chose to. You didn’t have to ignore the information that you could unlock these chapters for free. You chose to.

You’re entitled to what you got for the money. And blaming Anet because games cost more in Australia is pointless too. That has little to do with Anet and everything to do with the “Australia tax” which is pretty much universal. Sucks but there it is.

So if you manage to trick someone into buying something with blatantly false advertising, you owe them nothing.

You and I have very different ideas about the relationship between those who create things and those who purchase them.

Bit of a rant here. Just want to share my perspective on this and the living story in general.

I came back to the game for flame and frost, which was horrifically boring and involved mundane repetitive crap like running around pressing F on signposts for achievements, followed by farming an annoying and long dungeon for a 0.0001% chance of looting something I could sell on the TP for a bunch of gold. SAB was the one high point of an incredibly mediocre experience. Then there was secret of southsun, an update that was literally comprised of a crab toss minigame and again running around doing really boring trash content for achievements, so I’m like “I guess this is all the living story has to offer” and uninstalled GW2. Then apparently some really interesting stuff happened, so I reinstall the game, and I am greeted by Bazaar of the Four Winds, which involves yet again nothing but running around doing really boring trash content over and over again for achievements. Then comes cutthroat politics which involves yet again farming really boring trash content over and over again for voting tokens and also achievements. Please imagine I was screaming that last sentence, I would have typed it in all caps for emphasis but around here that gets your posts deleted.

So I uninstall GW2 again. I’ve been subscribed to the GW2 youtube channel the whole time and I see some videos about a tower of nightmares, but given my past experience I see nothing to suggest it involves any more then farming crappy content for achievements.

Then I hear about the HoT expansion, reinstall the game, and find out not only did I miss out on actually interesting LS content, if I want to check it out I have to fork over a metric kittenton of my hard earned gold thanks to the ridiculously inflated gem exchange rates, or $25 of my real dollars.

Oh well, let’s see what there is to do in GW2 now it’s been out for over two years…. well, there’s an incredibly small zone called silverwastes that I can farm an event in. Aside from that it’s like I’ve time traveled back to 2012, I run CoF, I do some world bosses, that’s all there is. If only I could actually have gone back to 2012 I could leave myself a note reminding me which parts of the game to log in for.

Considering that I spent like $90 australian for the standard edition of this game back at launch, I really feel like anet owes me a lot. I overpaid considerably for a good MMO experience and they have thus far completely failed to deliver anything but disappointment to me personally. Inb4 next post dismisses this by spouting the word “entitlement”. You’re kitten right I’m entitled. Now I’m going to fork out a bunch more cash for the HoT expansion because it’s required to make necro, the one class I’ve been playing since launch, actually good.

Death Shroud needs revamp

I think the current version is perfect.

Your autoattack basically acts like an on-demand lich form and is exactly what you need when you’ve got mainhand dagger and you need to hit something over there but you don’t feel like walking to it, second skill is an amazing chaser and a much needed shadowstep, third skill is an instant fear perfect for ccing people who are just about to stomp your team mates, fourth is one is the best AoE burst and event tagging skills in the game, and fifth is a useful immob and a long lasting condition.

The new reaper shroud looks really good, but I’ll be genuinely missing the old death shroud skills a lot of the time I think.

If there’s anything that needs to be changed, it’s that most of this stuff isn’t really useful to condition builds at all.

We don’t know how it’ll play yet, but just at a glance the one thing I’m worried about is that dragonhunter will be able to kite the hell out of the reaper with no problem at all, even after what they’ve given us.

That one stability skill will be useful, but what if it won’t be quite enough give that jason voorhees ‘no matter how hard you hit this guy he won’t stop’ vibe that they were going for, since there are probably at least a few classes who will be able to kitten out enough CC to burn through those stability stacks no problem.

After all, isn’t it basically the same stability, one stack every couple seconds, as lich form? One of the main things that balances out lich form is that even with the new pulsing stability system it’s still vulnerable to getting CC’d because it only gets one stack instead of plague form’s three.

People are concerned about what they should do with their skill points and skill point scrolls. Will it be better to use them to buy legendary crafting materials now or will the amount of skill points per materials remain the same? Will these things be converted in a 1:1 manner? No assumptions can be made here

Ok, I agree with a lot of the article, necros need a lot of work, but this statement, "Necromancers only use minions when they’re new to the game and anyone who uses them outside of that is trolling or doing it ‘for the laugh’. "

kitten you article author. Seriously, don’t make this kind of incendiary statement. I have mained a minion master since GW1. I am more aware than most of how horrid the current minions are, but to imply my persistence in using them is me having a lack of knowledge, trolling or otherwise not taking my gameplay seriously is immensely insulting.

The fact of the matter is when you get past the many AI issues minions have they do in fact embody the attrition playstyle of necromancer better than most builds. Even with their AI issues they’re still meatshields and passive dps and provide far more in protracted fights than many other necromancer skills.

Again, I agree with a lot of this article and appreciate the intent of raising awareness of the issues we have but this ignorant attitude you have presented towards minions will only serve to drive others away from the playstyle that simply needs AI improvements to be more user friendly and universally useful.

You are deliberately sandbagging and playing the class below it’s already low effectiveness ceiling. You are intentionally using the wrong build. I think that falls under the “trolling” headline, whether it’s intentional or not.

I’m going to disagree with that 100%.

I don’t want a stunbreak. I already got a lot of stunbreaks on necros. I already got tons of stun defenses like Rune of the Nightmare, doom, reaper’s protection.

I need stability. Something that lets me stomp safely. I’ll trade that worthless stunbreak for more stability. DS breaks stomp channel, so I can’t just watch the 2 downed skill animation.

Isn’t stomping generally considered to be a bad idea pretty much most of the time? In my somewhat limited experience the meta seems to be just kill the dead with your normal attacks rather then trying to stomp. If you’re in a team fight and you down someone it seems like you should just put a DoT on them to stop them healing and then focus on the ones who are still alive.

First off, I will give you the soul of my firstborn child in exchange for changing Death Shroud back so it doesn’t overflow into health from a single large damage spike. Other classes can block, which functions much the same way for eating insta-kill attacks, so why can’t we use DS for the same purpose? Also I really want to be able to jump off things that are really high up and use DS to tank the fall damage because it was cool and fun to do. There are not enough things that are cool and fun in this game.

This is part of a bigger problem that stems from Death Shroud not being an adequate mechanic for mitigating damage in this game. Characters need ways of mitigating extreme amounts of damage delivered over short periods of time, such as when you’re in spvp and you get simultaneously jumped by all five members of the enemy team. Most other classes have some way of dealing with this situation for at least a few seconds, but all necromancer can do is pop death shroud and then proceed to die instantly. This has problems in PvE as well, in boss fights like arah lupi you generally come to a point when you need to not get hit by this upcoming attack but you have no stamina to roll and have no death shroud left and there is little you can do to not get downed in this situation. I’m not the most knowledgeable player but as far as I am aware the only thing a necro can do here is use stamina food so they can roll through attacks more often. Other classes don’t have to do this.

I main a necro because I think it’s a cool class, doesn’t need to be any more to it then that, but I also want to focus on dungeon and other PvE content because I just like that kind of thing, working together with people to overcome challenging content.

When you’re a guardian and you join a dungeon group, people say/think “oh sweet, we have a guardian, nice”

When you’re an elementalist and you join a dungeon group, people say/think “oh sweet, we have an elementalist, nice”

When you’re a warrior and you join a dungeon group, people say/think “oh sweet, we have a warrior, nice”

When you’re a necromancer and you join a dungeon group, people say/think “switch to a class is that is actually useful or #### off”

Every other class can do something or multiple things that are useful to a dungeon group. I haven’t played every class so I don’t know them all, but notable examples are:

Guardians can drop reflect walls, and give their allies a stack of block
Elementalists can stack ridiculous might for the whole group, and can summon ice bows for structure damage
Mesmers can time warp and drop portals
Warriors can drop banners that buff the whole group
Thieves can aoe stealth the whole group
etc

The Necromancer has no utility like this. The Necromancer is not useful. Sure, Necro can do damage, but EVERYONE can do damage, and many people can do damage better then Necro can.

Please, for the love of god, put something in this class that makes it so Necromancer is actually desirable to have in high end pve endgame content.

This is like, just another patch that shuffles necromancer stuff around for no reason. Will have no effect on the game, no effect on how useful necros are in pve, no effect on how strong necros are in pvp.

Every other class got earth-shattering changes that look immediately really amazing.

It’s what we should have expected from anet.

Nope, not at all what what I was told, in fact, from what I hear you would brush off any feedback with angry deflections towards the other players and anet’s “necro hate”, no matter how softly/politely you were reminded and kept on doing your own thing. So you know where you can shove your lies about you being “completely open to communication.” Uncooperative and aggressive players get kicked, it’s as simple as that.

You may always blast swiftness, but that was far from true for every guild group I joined.

The closest anything ever came to that was one time I joined a group with a specific member, can’t really remember the name one word starts with A, and got “omg why are you playing necro” and I replied with “lol want me to get on my level 24 ele? It’s all I got right now, blame anet haha” and put up with snide remarks from them for half the run before I decided to just drop group and go do something else. This happened in one run, ever, and in future I purposefully avoiding joining runs with that player because I knew they didn’t like me playing this class.

The only thing I was ever “reminded” about was that necro is sub-optimal for PvE, which I completely agree with 100%. Maybe sometimes I forget to switch locust signet back to power signet when coming out of a run which is usually corrected within a minute or so, but if you can find one, ONE screenshot of anybody, at any time, suggesting anything or any way that I should change my build up or play differently where I was like “no screw you speed signet is BiS” or whatever then you’ll be totally justified, but you won’t find it, because THAT HAS LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENED, EVER.

Or even any pictures of me being aggressive toward guild members, because that has also never happened. Of course I’m being aggressive now because this is one of the most insulting things that has ever happened to me, people aren’t that happy when you treat them like worthless pieces of ****, man.

If someone comes to you with these kind of complaints, you ask for proof, and regardless of what they offer you then talk to both people involved and try to find a solution. You and I ran multiple dungeons together, talked in teamspeak, you literally were there while I was helping some newer players through arah p4 explaining the run, the way I was there is the same way I was to everybody, just trying to be helpful and do a good job.

Tobias, you ran a necro with staff and speed signet in dungeons, of all things, so please don’t say that you play to “the highest possible level” :/

The only time I have ever equipped a staff inside of a dungeon is for the section after Lupi in arah p4 where you need to hit those turret structures from range in order to not aggro mobs or the start of AC taking out the kitten flame turrets in the spider room. Something you cannot do with a dagger. Of course I use the speed signet for skipping sections, the only other option for necro going fast is locust swarm which causes a constant AoE DoT around the player causing you to tag any mobs you try to run past putting you into combat and making you go SLOWER.

But oh no, instead of actually trying to talk about whatever bull screenshot was sent to you, mr “we are open to teaching newer members, no matter their skill level or gear” I just get thrown out of the guild without any attempt to communicate to fix whatever issues people were having with the way I play. I would have been completely open to any feedback of any kind at any time about how I could have played better, but received not a single word. You are a liar and an ***hole.

Heavily exclusionary guild, extremely hostile attitude from many some members. Played with these people for two weeks and then I get kicked, without any kind of warning at all, because my main is a necro (which I play to the highest possible level, dagger power build full exotic/ascended zerk etc) and that’s not good enough, despite the fact that I had been openly spending most of my spare time in those weeks leveling an elementalist alt for better dungeon play.

Try to talk to the guild officers about this and get told “We’re trying to achieve a higher level of play, deal with it”

Would not recommend this guild to anyone unless you’re an extreme speedrun elitist warrior/mes/guard/ele etc.

Hopefully from the HoT beta starting in the next day or so we’ll get some detailed information on necro changes.

And then it’ll turn out that GS is just like necro axe with shorter range and the only change they did was made it so necros only have half as much Life Force as they do now, because the people in charge of balance at anet totally know all about necros.

You know what is sad is that anet wont give a rats kitten if you switch to another class in their very own game. This class will never change. Two years of only minor tweaks and changes is valid proof. In addition it has taken the balance dev two freaking godkitten years to even get around to playing the necro let alone to balance it. That is ridiculous and I see the skills developed for the rev. can be taken right out of the necro forum discussion. What is even worse is that we buy into the devs bs about “oh necros are the attrition class, you don’t need mobility and ds gives you plenty survivability ability.” What a load of crap we keep eating, especially when they design a class that has mobility, skills, damage and defense all rolled into one. And you think they are going to take a look at the necros traits, skills, etc for hot and actually make changes viable enough to change the meta or make us more effective in pve and pvp? Come on guys that is a Joke. They will change a modicum of traits, most likely some description changes, give us a greatsword with some mediocre skills at best and call it done, and you know what? We will continue to eat it right up and likely think, oh after HOT they will get to the necro and finally give us the attention this class deserves. Guys I completely understand playing a class because you enjoy it and want to play it but for gods sake don’t continue to play it only because you think they will make changes that suddenly changes their meta or makes us more viable after 2.5 years. If you want to play the rev, or the necro because you like it then play it, especially if you enjoy it. I just think that anet has no clue what to do with this class and has been unable to make truly meaningful changes that acuallty improve our overall viability. Everything seems to be kitten or patchwork fixes to a damaged baseline.

Have not even seen a dev even openly discuss this class at the same level they have discussed other classes. I mean wtf Rangers had a lot of time allocated to improving the class and while we were designated one of the classes most in need of improvement we got 0 godkitten face time. JOKE. I swear sometimes I’m not sure why I even post here hahaha though i do enjoy reading the necro communities thoughts and ideas. Some of it is truly great and deserves attention. I’m actually sad the devs don’t interact more with the community.

Also I got around to actually looking more closely at the Rev class videos we’ve seen so far and it’s amazing how much the Mallyx stance is literally “a condi necro, but good”

Power necro is an unstoppable killing machine in any even fight. If you’re getting ganked you’ll have issues though due to lack of mobility. Pay more attention to the minimap and get out of there if things start to go badly.

I don’t know what the hell you’re doing that you don’t have enough to do. You need to pop locusts, reaper’s touch, well of suffering, blood is power, death shroud, and tainted shackles before you can settle into an autoattack. That seems like enough things to do to me, at that point you probably need to focus on avoiding attacks and timing dodges right. Sure, dagger skills 2 and 3 aren’t useful for PvE but it’s all about the offhand action.

You realize what the cooldown on those is, right?

@necro sustain, I don’t really see why group fights would be a problem, either the enemies are all targeting you in which case you have a couple things you can pop, aoe fears and etc, and your team is able to have free reign for a 5-10 seconds which is enough time to turn a fight around, or they’re not focusing you which case you put out so much aoe damage with life transfer and tainted shackles and then lich form that they’ll really wish they had focused you.

You’re an unstoppable killing machine in 1v1 fights, it wouldn’t be balanced if you were also able to facetank a group of five players crashing down on you.

I don’t know what the hell you’re doing that you don’t have enough to do. You need to pop locusts, reaper’s touch, well of suffering, blood is power, death shroud, and tainted shackles before you can settle into an autoattack. That seems like enough things to do to me, at that point you probably need to focus on avoiding attacks and timing dodges right. Sure, dagger skills 2 and 3 aren’t useful for PvE but it’s all about the offhand action.

Not about “can’t” but “shouldn’t have to”. The old system was great.

What the hell is this? Now if I want to play PvP I have to carry around a bunch of useless white weapons that take up space in my inventory or bank while I’m doing PvE? If I want to have a separate look for PvP I have to carry around an entire set of spare gear? Spare gear that I have to buy with my PvE money? And then transmute with my limited amount of PvE transmutation charges? Not to mention that you seem to have completely removed the old “guild” pvp armor set from the game that I want to use.

0/10 this is like coming home from a vacation to find someone broke into your house, filled your living room with trash, stole your clothes, and punched your dog.

It seems better. I messed around with minions about a week ago and I was frequently noticing that MOST of them weren’t attacking.

Just ran around in Orr right now with the standard 4/0/6/4/0 build killing enemies and the flesh golem was only attacking about 50% of the time, shadow fiend about 75% of the time, but blood fiend, bone minions, and bone fiend were all working the way I expected them to. Kill speed was slightly slower then daggers build but the difference in survivability was insane.

It’s now at a point where I would consider them a good option for doing map completion or other solo pve content. They still need to move faster and be more aggressive and also regenerate health when out of combat.

Some of the leaked skill info makes revenant look like an unstoppable killing machine with more utility then all the other classes in the game combined and guaranteed god of pvp.

Should have jumped off the sinking necro ship at launch, but hey “surely within a few months we’ll see major changes to address this class’s problems, right?” ha ha. Revenant will be a good change of pace.

While texture quality in this game has been kitten from day 1, and the character models are so low-poly that if you actually zoom in my character has razor sharp pointy ears, it would probably cost a bunch of money to fix any of that and I would rather they use that money to pay someone to fix the actual game problems like every dungeon being so poorly designed that the meta has developed entirely around content skipping exploits, or poor enemy AI, or necros.
