Is because that it eliminated something that Guild Wars 2 nailed perfectly. Something that other MMOs did not have.
A sense of adventure.
The moment you created a character, the game seemed to say “Here you are. This is your world. Go in any direction you like, and experience it how you like”.
And it was amazing. It felt more like Skyrim, than some weird, robotic MMORPG. I was so thrilled that right away i could just explore those beautiful regions and actually get rewarded for it.
That’s what made me buy the game in the first place. My friend has let me create a character, to check the game out by myself and i was enchanted by the ammount of freedom that i had, because no other modern MMO offered it.
Now? “Where are you going? No! Bad player! Follow the tutorial! Yes, now do this heart! No, you can’t wander off over there, you should be interested in completing another heart”.
It no longer feels like an adventure, and it no longer feels like you’re truly a part of this world. Everything is gated, exploration is discouraged, the gameplay is boring due to extremely crippled experimentation with different weapons and skills.
The leveling process is simply no longer exciting.
My personal problem with the leveling system is of course, how beyond dumbed-down and boring it is, but also how terribly frustrating it is to level up a mesmer right now.
Mesmers were already hit quite hard when they pushed the traits to level 30.
And now, with locked skills, and no utilities until level 13, the starting experience is quite literally a nightmare.
As a warrior main, the change didn’t make warriors weak, by any stretch of the imagination, to be honest.
It did, however, make the class feel really clunky and unstable, which is just not fun. If they had problem with condition cleansing, they should nerf condition cleansing, and not the core mechanism of the class which affects all builds.
I rarely complain about changes, and i always try to see a good way of utilizing them.
But, i’m sorry ArenaNet, this is just dumb.
Can you even imagine leveling a Mesmer right now? Pushing the traits to level 30 was already a huge hit for new Mesmers, and now the first 10 levels will feel like a godkitten nightmare on top of that.
Then there’s the “dumbing down” argument. Like the poster above me pointed out, literally every game out there requires you to learn 10-15 skills by the time you’re level 20, and they just keep coming. No one complains about them, people just adapt, and learn.
This on the other hand is quite literally an insult to the intelligence of an average gamer. We already have 5-6 buttons to push at most at levels 1-10, and you think that’s too much?
That’s the most unnecessary change to this game i have ever seen.
Stay out of the forums and you will enjoy the game more. As you can see, just by looking at some posts in this thread, it’s just filled with bitter people who have played it for a year or longer, and now are bored.
The current state of the game is as follows:
-Starting today’s patch, you will have a much smoother experience while leveling up.
-We don’t know much about long term plans of ArenaNet for the game, as like they said, they prefer to reveal stuff when they’re about to ship it.
-Starting 12th of September, there will be a World vs World tournament which everyone can participate, and reap quite cool rewards.
-After the Tournament is over (October), the Living Story will resume. Those are bi-weekly patches that introduce new story quests, and achievements. To be frank, some of them are very lackluster if you aren’t really a fan of GW2’s characters, and you prefer gameplay over storytelling.
-At level 80, the exotic gear is all you really need to compete, and participate in all the game’s content while still being very efficient. Decking yourself in exotic usually takes around a week for a totally new player.
-If you feel like you want to have a slight edge, though, you have an option to craft Ascended Armor/Weapons, for a slight stat increase. The process is time and money consuming, so it’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth it.
As for the races/classes:
-Race doesn’t play a big role in GW2’s gameplay. Just pick what you like.
-There are no dedicated healers in GW2. But if you generally like helping your team, and throwing some quick heals here and there, i’d suggest either a Guardian or Elementalist.
Personal tip:
-Don’t rush, and don’t let the forum cynics make you feel like you just wasted your money. You did not.
If you’re only interested in the armor sets (6 points), it won’t take you long. Just play through one of the campaigns, dedicate a Ranger pet, and you’re basically done. If you seek to get to 25-30 points, you will have to dedicate a lot of time to get there.
1. Start with Nightfall, as it’s the most newbie-friendly campaign out there.
2. Once you hit level 10 and get a bunch of heroes, start doing Eye of the North quests until you get more heroes (you get 3 right off the bat).
3. Once you got them, go back to Nightfall.
4. Voila, you have a party full of heroes. It will make your life much easier.
Well, technically we already have a Kurzick look-alike.
I’d love to see the Elite Ascalon one, but considering that it’s helmet is a decapitated Charr head, it’s highly unlikely :P.
I think the argument that an expansion is a bad idea because it would pull Anet from giving us things to do on a bi-weekly basis is not really that strong.
The things they give us, an average players completes in 2 hours, or so, and then he or she goes back to the same old – fractal/champion/ecto/world boss grind for the rest of the 2 weeks.
For example, right now, we haven’t had any new content since August 12. On 9th, the feature pack will arrive, which also isn’t content, those are just changes to the old systems. Next stop, WvW tournament, which again, is not new content, it’s going back to the same old WvW, but this time with less achievements to complete than before.
So, frankly speaking, we will be somewhere around 2-3 months without new content.
Can you honestly say that something has changed for you? Do you feel more bored, because we won’t see Braham, Taimi and other forgettable, one dimensional characters Anet has created until the Fall?
I certainly don’t.
Absolutely nothing would change if we were to wait a couple more months without any new cheesy episodes that introduce literally nothing for people who aren’t lore freaks.
The grind is optional.
You don’t need to be fully decked in ascended. You don’t need to go after that legendary.
You can easily do all content this game has to offer just with exotics, which you can obtain really easily.
Now if Ascended and Legendary is what you want (aka prestigious items that weren’t made to be worn by the entire playerbase in the first place), you will simply have to put in more work.
Forgal’s death.
Forgal and Rytlock were the only characters that i actually liked. And now that both are gone (Forgal dead, Rytlock officially declared as “missing”), i really have no other character in the game that i genuinely like.
We can’t say that just because Norns are relatively anti-authoritarian and are focused on individual glory, they would fail at warfare.
You know who else was like them? Vikings. Can you honestly say that Vikings weren’t good at warfare with the ammount of land they conquered?
The thing is, Norns, just like Vikings would use this as their advantage. Not being a classic “army”, and not having set tactics would make them unpredictable in the battlefield. No one would be able to study their behavior in combat, because each battle would be different.
With that being said, Charrs would have the upper hand in the war, no matter what. Not only are they born soldiers, they also have the technology, physical prowess, numbers and discipline.
It’s a step in the right direction, and it shows that Anet recognizes the problems that GS has in PvP.
I’d rather have them carefuly tweak stuff like this, rather than give a huge nerf or a huge buff all at once which usually ends up badly.
Those are actually really nice changes. 5% damage reduction to 100b is really not that big of a deal, and having a useful burst skill for GS is really cool.
People don’t want full support builds, because they are simply inefficient.
Every single class out there has good supporting tools by default (Mesmer has Portal/Veil/Feeback/Time Warp; Warrior has Banners/Shouts; Guardian has Reflection/Purging Flames/Regeneration etc.), so why would you not want to deal more damage, and make the fractal or dungeon run much faster?
Extra support won’t make a big difference, but extra damage most definitely will.

I try not to log onto my mesmer immediately after i’m done playing my warrior or elementalist to not get depressed.
Thanks a for the response, brother. I will definitely give it a shot!
Hey guys.
I recently came back to GW2 after a few month break, and i decided to go for a fresh start, and switch my main from Mesmer to Warrior.
Currently, i am looking for an effective WvW build, which would allow me to perform well during zergs. I am not really roaming, or playing organized WvW at the moment.
-I want to be able to support my zerg well.
-I want to be able to tag a decent number of enemies.
I’ve spent some time on google, and found this build
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tPdXawRbrQ
People were praising it, but i’m 99,9% sure it’s outdated by now. From the looks of it though, this could be exactly what i’m looking for. Is there an updated version of it anywhere?
Thanks for the help guys, cheers!
Meh, that’s a shame. Thanks for the responses, guys.
Hey guys. I came back from a few month break, and i read that during one of the events leading up to LS season 2, there was a Blade Shard vendor.
My bank is full of them, and i’d like to know whether i can still reach the vendor somehow?
Guild Wars 2: Terror of Maguuma
-Mordremoth’s awakening changed Maguuma forever. It is up to you, and your allies to heal the dying land, and prevent the dragon’s corruption to spread.
-Level Cap raised to 90.
-3 brand new zones with new Dynamic Events, Tasks, Vistas, Jumping Puzzles and Points of Interests to explore.
-Personal Story continues.
-Political Turmoil: 4 different political parties form immediately after the Dragon’s awakening, each with different policies, and with different ideas on how to help the citizens of Tyria in these troubling times. It is up to you to choose your allegiance.
-Notoriety: Your political choices determine your reputation among Tyrians, and give you an opportunity to gain new titles (“The Idealist”, “The Radical”, “The Tyrant” etc.).
-Depending on your Notoriety, NPCs will greet you differently. No matter what, you won’t be able to please everybody, and there will always be a region that will despise your methods.
-Trahearne’s quest continues. However, his personality has changed ever since he started researching ancient artifacts which he thought were they key to Mordremoth’s defeat. Spoiler Alert: We’d watch his slow but very noticeable descend into madness. With each update, his decisions would become more and more morally questionable. By the end of the expansion, his madness would drive him to become Mordremoth’s champion, and we’d have the opportunity to kill him off.
-New WvW map: Maguuma Wastes
-New PvP map: Maguuma Labirynth
-New Dungeons (with new Armor Sets): Aurora Glade, Bloodstone Fen, Maguuma Wilds
(edited by Tomas.5029)
I heard that Trahearne single handedly carried out all of the LA citizens outside of the city, then came back, decimated all the alliance forces, and finally killed Scarlet with his bare hands.
What a hero.
10/10
All hail Overlord Trahearne.
I hope the next season of living story will be dedicated solely to him.

Open World: Shatter. The massive burst dispatches mobs really, really quickly, and i love it.
Dungeons: Phantasm/Reflection. Good, sustained DPS and amazing support for my group.
PvP: Condition. I like it due to it’s survivability. In PvP, in general, i prefer to be in a tanky build.
WvW: Confusion/Reflection: Nothing like watching an entire group kill themselves due to all the reflects and stacked confusion.
