I just started playing my ranger, only mid level 20s right now. I plan to keep it mostly to PvE, but if I can get skilled enough, I might try WvW roaming.
I hear everyone saying how terrible rangers are in everything, but that can’t be true. I know there are good rangers out there. Saying the ranger class is bad, must be like saying the thief class is OP. Ridiculous statements.
1. I want to have a fernhound as my main pet. Is this viable? I’ve heard that the fernhound is preferred as a secondary pet.
——If I do go with a fernhound as a primary pet, what build would compliment it?2. What is the general meta build for rangers? Zerker, Valkyrie, Condi, PTV?
3. I’ve seen other rangers send their pets to their doom to save themselves. But I’m a softie who doesn’t want to condemn my cute and loyal virtual pet to that fate. Would I end up having to rely on this tactic…?
4. LB feels more like a PvP weapon and SB for PvE. Is this the general idea?
5. What is a ranger strong in? Where do they really shine? Dungeons, pvp, WvW, fractals, boss fights….which one?
If you decide to spvp you’ll start getting frustrated with thieves, same goes for WvW.
Not going to work unless people start getting banned for making whine threads… too bad that is not going to happen.

Just fought a war 3 times and I couldn’t drop his hp at all. He had 3 stacks of torment + bleeds on me the whole fight which lasted 20 seconds even when I had 3 condi removals. He refused to fight me with a different spec haha.
So… Condi war is better than condi necro? Makes perfect sense!
Ps he was using healing signet and shamans I think.

I usually play a necromancer, when i get stolen from while activating my elite it puts my elite on full cooldown. Does this happen to any other classes?

I usually go for the stun/maul with the great sword after my pet spider immobs them. If their still alive I’ll pop “Sic Em” (for brief stealth downtime) then I’ll try to deal the finishing blows. If that doesn’t work I try to use longbow skill 3 to relieve pressure. I usually die if the first combo doesn’t kill him though. :,(
And I thought the thief forums were wrought with QQ. You should really look at every class’s list of buffs/nerfs before assuming that you’re the only ones. ANet hates every class (except warrior and necro) equally, guys.

Look at the patch notes, Anet does very few changes and thus pays little attention to necros.
No healing while in the class mechanic says enough. Also please take a look at the necromancers life steal traits.
Please take a look at the new Necromancer skill. It’s a load of dog kitten.
The new heal annoys me but… The changes to weakening shroud kitten me off.
12 seconds to 2 seconds of weakness… Really? Why not just remove the trait if that’s the way its going to be?

Im glad its not considered a weapon swap because i dont think we would recieve the benefits of the trait “Axe Training” while in deathshroud if it was considered so.
Im starting to prefer vitality over toughness just because it grants a higher life force pool.
So I finally got an ascended weapons chest drop, tobad the stats are pretty much useless for me because I only play the necromancer class.

Vitality
Healing Power
Any builds that these stats mite be worth using in? or should I just keep the weapons chest as a kind of “trophy?”
What if they revamped it to give quickness upon entering DS for 1-2 seconds? Would be nice for shroud stomping.
I play with an xbox controller and thus have to use tab or auto target, its a kitten to target a mesmer so normally I just throw down as many AOEs as possible.

I usually don’t have any trouble killing warriors and when I do die to a warrior I don’t open up the forums and QQ about it.
Actually, the LF pool increased greatly so you can stop QQing.
Loosing the ability to block an insane amount of damage with low life force/ being able to fall from great distances and survive. That is a nerf.
Lol 18 stacks of might pistol whip felt like it barely drained death shroud. Somewhat irate.

Necros took a major nerf in the last patch with damage overflowing into healthpool.
This nerf sucks, and they just removed a good aspect about playing a necromancer. The ability to soak insane damage amounts with your death shroud, balanced out some of the one-hit kill mechanics in the game. You could pop in and out DS every now and then to tank otherwise impossible to survive hits. It was a great mechanic, whether intentional or not. Why did they remove this? Do they actually play a necro?
No, 90% of them probably play mesmer because in patches they seem to get the most love.
I say play it a while and then see how you feel.
We did a big set of improvements to Necro recently, and we want to make sure we don’t over improve their defense capabilities.
We want to shift more focus to death shroud throug main hand skills, but, again, we don’t want to do this too fast, ESPECIALLY with a major Pax tournament right around the corner.
So death shroud gains may not be as high as you would like, but we’ll keep monitoring them and looking at further improvements to make.
So death shroud is going to be focused towards power builds even more than it already is? With the recent nerf death shroud is almost completely useless for condition builds. Pre-patch it was an amazing defensive tool and good for the fear damage but… terror got nerfed aswell.
I refuse to play gw2 until they undo some of this kitten.

I always use the flesh golem because it cripples and does about 1-2k damage each time it attacks and has a very nice knockdown skill.
I’m playing a condition build, I don’t care for plaque form because if you get chilled/crippled your done for.
If terror gets nerfed by 50-60%, I’m still going to chain fear you until your dead just to make you cry even more and request that fear should be completely removed.
Currently I’m running: 0,30,20,0,20
That will probably change to: 30,20,0,30 with runes of the necro just so I can get the longest fear duration possible. Oh I’ll also get giver’s stats on my weapons for +20% condition duration.Am I really the first person to wonder how he’ll get 80 trait points?

Oh no you can’t get your free kills anymore!
I personally believe that a condition/tank/support necro build Is 10x better In pve situations. I feel high damage is only needed in pvp/wvw where it can be used to pressure people into using their healing skill then running away.
That’s only one example where you don’t see 4 man warrior groups.
And people claiming to have played necro for a long time and/or win 1v2 or 1v3 are full of it. Contact me any time and ill have a standing offer of 20g for any single necro that can best me and a friend even once out of ten tries. Spvp or WvW setting.
I have 600 hours of gameplay on my necro.
1v1: I can almost always win in a 1v1 situation due to me being able to focus all my CC on a single opponent.
1v2: I can usually stay alive for along time in this situation but I still usually end up dieing, getting the first stomp is difficult because it leaves you open for an easy backstab.
1v3: these I lose all the time. The closest I’ve come to winning a 1v3 was when I had 2 warriors constantly run into the spectral wall I placed and thus let me kill the thief with my conditions. I was able to knockdown then stomp one of the warriors but the other one got the best of me.
I can post a screen shot of /age later tonight when I get on if want.
Then why do you see groups running dungeons with 4 warriors?

Yeah I guess but it would only slow your party down slightly which doesn’t bother me since I enjoy taking my time in dungeons but I understand that is not the case for everybody. I accidentally merched my exotic magic find set while cleaning my inv out at the end of the night (lol) and i have not bothered rebuying it since i didnt use it much besides orr which i rarely do.
I don’t mind if they are running magic find gear if their not dropping every couple seconds.

I won in a tpvp match against 4 necros and 1 guard.
I had a Mesmer,ranger,warrior and a thief on my team. My team were randoms btw.
It’s annoying when people ask for gear pings… I don’t have to really worry about the issue because I only play on my necro so I got my full exotic gear very early. But why would it matter if somebody has a couple rare armor pieces? If someone in my party gets kicked because of that I usually just leave because I don’t like dealing with people like that.
So what if we get a 4 second burning every ten seconds? The trait to get the burning isn’t even in the condition trait line. So it’s either I go super squishy and give up my toughness and receive 4seconds of burning every 10 seconds ( god kitten that a lot of burning!) or I can stick with the conditions I have and keep my toughness.
People will always put the 2 thoughts condition damage, necromancer together because that’s how it was in gw1. Bursting damage kills things faster than condition damage is the only thing a lot of speed runners think about
I can almost guarantee that you have never played a necro in-depth with what you just said and if that’s the case that makes you a hypocrite.
I loved playing power necro it’s a great deal of fun.
