I would like to add my praise about this update. I was extremely impressed with how the last zone looked, with the crystals. It reminded me of the Jade Sea, not necessarily how it looked, but how magical it felt. Environments in GW and GW2 are already the most immersive that I know off in any MMO, but you guys keep surpassing yourselves.
Looking forward to the next episode.
The “no reward” thing in GW2 is getting really old imo
Fight a Champion mob with 2 people for 20 minutes, get nothing (no chest). Or fight a Champion and get a chest, but with a minute chance on a yellow item which in itself is worthless. Or combine 4 yellows in the forge and have a minute chance of getting an orange item back which in itself is worth no more then the amount of Ectoplasm it will yield.
Seriously, the only thing worth doing at the moment imo is the Dailies, since you get a solid amount of Karma for that now, which can yield you Orr armor.
There are no rare mobs in GW2 with a chance of special loot, the chests contain crap, and the whole RNG/Black Lion chests with zero in them is only suitable for people with a gambling problem.
I realize GW 2 has to make money, but I am loosing all interest.
Since I do not like to do the dungeon/5-man thing in any MMO I will be a second rate citizen from now on. At least in Rift you can grind out Sourcestones in Instant Adventures and work your way to very powerfull gear that way.
I am not against powercreep, I am against the fact that they tie it to a certain playstyle (dungeons, Raids).
Since I love doing DE’s in the open world, I wish you could earn that gear in that way too. And stating that I do not need the extra power since I will not set foot in a dungeon anyway is not true: I certainly would welcome a little extra power when doing certain DE’s in Orr!
I gave up on the clock tower. I also think it’s pretty cool of Josh to come here and say the things that he did.
I love most of the jumping puzzles in the game even though I hated this one.
Pass on the puzzle and the chests (opened a few), pass on grinding the dungeons and labyrinth, also not a big PvP fan so pass on those maps after the first time, but for the rest I enjoyed it.
Don’t forget this one:
The root of all the world’s problems is lag.
I lol’ed
Complete 6 times. Everyone who hasn’t done it must suck because I have achieved it.
…not really XD Some people are good at somethings while others are good at other things. Doesn’t make anyone better than the other person; just different.
So true. I am rather good at brainsurgery for instance, I just suck at this puzzle.
Yeah, I am not advocating they should make it easier or some. I know lots of people will love it. I am a little suprised at myself that I really dislike it so much. I mean, I soloed the Mad Kings Dungeon with my ranger which took about 80 minutes and like 8 deaths, so it is not that I do not like to stretch myself a little bit now and then. But this puzzle just seems completely anachievable for a good chunk of people. Which is usually ok in my book, I am not of the “everyone should have it all” crowd. Then again, maybe I am . I like jumping puzzles, just not this timed gauntlet-run.
Gratz on the slipper though.
Thanks man, I hate this puzzle, but will give it another try.
I like Guild Wars 2, but the nature of this puzzle is the first feature that created some distance between me and the game. Which is the sort of thing that always comes before I eventually change (back) to another game.
So here’s hoping that for every person like me, there is another person where this puzzle created even more fondness for the game. Most likely the people wearing the Mad King Slippers right now.
If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?
Posted by: Tyncale.1629
First off, Queensdale never really handed me my kitten as a lowbie, so the urge for revenge and payback is just not as strong.
Having said this, I love the downscaling as is. Like many said before me, you are still overpowered, but some stuff is still a challenge. Running into a cave packed with 10 Ice Elementals for instance, or trying a Champion boss alone. If you could steamroll these the fun would quickly be gone, now at least you do not feel out of place in the zone and doing stuff with others still makes sense in that zone.
Mind you, I am a guy who loved revisiting old zones and dungeons in old Everquest and lay waste to Blackburrow with my level 75, just for kicks, or solo some old world boss. However that was another time, in a game that was quit unforgiving at low levels, also with other game mechanics that made it a plus if you could steamroll old content.
To name some:
- You could now obtain (often still useful) loot solo from old Bosses;
- Quick gathering of crafting ingredients by laying waste to an entire zone;
- Factioning made easy by being able to kill hundreds of mobs quickly.
All that does not apply in GW2, not really.
Yes, Orr is bad for doing dailies. Risen are just boring….. Penatbater, you get 10 jugs for your monthly. Just finished mine yesterday, 45k karma, yeah! Immediately picked up another piece of my Orr Dwayna armor set.
Now that I have a Radeon HD 7970 I think the graphics look amazing. This certainly goes for the armor textures too. My Ranger has the HoM Heritage set, and I have dyed them in a combination of Midnight Sky (Dark Blue-ish) and Ancient Silver, and it looks AWESOME! This from a guy that never bothered with dyes in other games…
Depending on the lighting in the area and the time of day, the ancient silver leather actually seems to shine in a different hue, ranging from dark gold to off-white. You can see the light bounce off certain details on the ancient silver leather when you circle your view around, while the midnight sky texture has a more matte, diffuse look. I will try to make a screenshot, but it reallly shows best in game where the textures literally come alive through reflections during movement.
I usually do my dailies in one of the starterzones, the Norn one is pretty good with lots of DE’s firing off in the snowy part. You can also get all 15 different animals easily in that snowy area.
I was already doing them every day, but now that you earn a whopping 4500 karma with them too, I can actually see myself getting a few different Orr sets in a reasonable amount of time! Thank you Anet, for this serious upgrade of the daily reward.
I actually find the dailies a really relaxing way to start my play session; they usually do not take much longer then 10-20 minutes, I love the sightseeing in Tyria with the great graphics, and the downscaling works nicely in that you are very powerfull in those starterzones, yet it does not become completely trivial(try running into a cluster of Ice elementals for fun). Also the Shaman champion still kicks some major kitten!
Anyone not doing his dailies, or maybe decided to start doing them now? And where do you do them?
Actually, since I discovered the Orr armor sets, I definately have a use for Karma now. I already bought 2 pieces of Dwayna armor so that I can create a set that is more specialized in defense and healing then the Precision/Conditiondamage set that I currently have. And since you earn a whopping 4500 karma for your daily now, you can actually buy a piece every 10 days(actually sooner since you earn 1000 karma for the 5 DE’s also)!
I was doing my daily already anyway, takes me like 15 minutes in one of the starterzones, I think they are fun to do, mixing up the zones that I do them in, chasing the different animals, do a couple of de’s in a beautiful world.
And now, in only a few months, they will earn me a couple of Orr sets too! That is the sort of grinding I like.
I use my forge all the time in the field mostly for combining 4 greens to try to get a yellow, or combining a couple of useless runes to see if I can get something better. I also use it to see what items are indeed Mystic Forge-ingredients, so I can save them for later. I expect that recipes for the forge will multiply over the years also.
Having said this, it is certainly not a must have item; a permanent banker, Trader or merchant is way more usefull. Also, as long as the Conduits will stay tradable, I do not think the price will really skyrocket, since there is quit a large pool to go around.
However, as soon as Anet makes a change so that the Conduit will become account-bound after first use, then the market will dry up fast and prices will really go up.
I am happy I got one, and no way will I sell it for 14 gold!
When you “use” an unidentified dye, it just identifies it, you should find the identified dye in your inventory. Then you can double-click (use) that identified dye again, and then the color is added to your dye color palette. From then on you can forever use that color to dye any armor you are wearing. You can access the dye-panel by clicking a very small icon of a pipette in your character-screen (top).
I am at a loss what kind of policy Anet is following when it comes to rewarding players with a chest, it seems completely random. Some champions do, some don’t. Some DE’s take a long time and end with a hard fight, zero chest. Some Champions are simple, yet give a chest.
Tbh, I think every DE and boss should end up with a chest a la Warhammer Online, with at least a green item in it and a chance of something cooler(rare item, crafting mats). It’s is not that anyone is going to use that green item anyway, but at least you could stockpile them and use them in the forge or some. Karma, xp and a single silver is just not enough incentive for most DE’s (especially lengthy Escort-ones).
Here’s my routine: I do my Daily in a newbie zone, and for the rest of the evening I stay in the zone that I am exploring for my 100%. Why? Because of WP-costs. I do not WANT to only visit 2 zones in an evening of play, but I can reach a newbie zone without cost, and then only have to spend silver once to get to my explore zone.
I know I sound cheap, and I know there are millionaire TP-traders here, but for this casual level 80 player with no economic wits, that is trying to gear up, being poor is my reality. And it keeps me from hopping to other zones constantly, something I always loved to do in for instance EQ, with all the ports available there. The modern EQ, off course.
Anyway, maybe some day I wil get rich and start traveling again.
Still very interested, a bit to my surprise, since it is has been 6 weeks now, and I have become rather jaded over the years.
Things that keep me playing are the beautifull world, still enough to aim for and the combat which I keep enjoying (though I certainly hope they will add to the pool of skills in the future).
Things that worry me a bit: the fact that so many DE’s and Champion bosses come without a chest with at least something interesting in itg ( a green item at minimum with a small chance on cool stuff) make me sortoff not want to bother with DE’s anymore, since grinding karma and xp just is not enough incentive for me. I still do enjoy the ones where I get to fight lots of mobs though, also because they at least yield loot (as long as you do not hit the DR).
Also not looking forward to Orr, the risen-infested zones are just cumbersome and depressing imo. Yet I do like the chance of higher level loot/mats so I guess I will have to go there.
So, tweaks in the loot and grind department are definately needed if they want me to play this 6 months from now.
I feel cramped in a group. You have to observe niceties, rules and the feelings of others, all normal social behaviour off course. You can not drop a group after 10 minutes. You can not impose your own wants constantly. Groups tend to do mundane, repetitious stuff imo, like kill mobs for hours on end in the same spot (EQ). Groups sometimes tend to be inefficient or ineffective and I feel you still have to be nice then.
Grouping with people you know or like does not change a whole lot to the above. When I started playing MMO’s back in ’99, I never started with the idea of “whoaa, I get to kill stuff with 5 people for hours on end”. I started with the idea of entering a Fantasyworld, “where thousands of other people would be too”.
Sure, it also said " Fight monsters together with other players" on the box, but that never implied the “group-up” thing for me. If anything, that is exactly what DE’s are for me.
MMO’s was about an immersive world, NPC’s, treasure, hidden places, exploring, secrets, and off course, meeting other players in that world.
Just not “kill stuff for 2 hours with the same 5 people”.
Thanks for the vid.
I am currently running gw2 on 3 monitors in a horizontal setup, but was wondering how it would look when I place them vertically. Looks like your vertical FoV improves a lot then, however the bezels sure are a lot more in the way, it seems. Right now, the bezels do not hinder me with most of the action going on at the center screen but with a vertical setup it looks like any fight involving more then a single mob (i.e. pretty much every fight) would spill over to the sidemonitors, with the bezels cutting it up. Not sure if I could get used to that.
Do you notice the bezels in a fight much?
Yes, the Experience Survivor thing. However, this is bugged for me, it only shows two ?? instead of the text “Experience Survivor”. Also, I had finished this part in the first two days, and now it is back to zero, and not filling up anymore at all. Obviously bugged, and reported it.
Is this the case for you too?
@cold
The bezels with a 3-monitor setup can pose somewhat of a problem when a dialogue popup is right at the crossover of two monitors, but with regular gameplay, I hardly notice the bezels anymore. However this is probably purely personal. One thing that helps is making the room you are in dark, and put a light behind the monitors, shining away from you, causing the monitor setup to be lit from the back. Then place the monitors so that the bezels slightly cover eachother, making the black beam between 2 monitors smaller.
Since the room is dark and your monitors are lit from the back, you do not notice the fact that the one monitor is slightly “behind” the other. I use black monitors, this works best imo, in a dark room. There are also monitors with very small bezels but they are probably a bit more costly. I could get a good deal on 2 Dell monitors that pretty much resembled the one I had. The radeon 7970 has no problem at all with this setup with everything on full.
The biggest problem is when the game goes into storymode (personal story dialogue), you only see the torso’s of the characters talking, since in this mode the resolution does not adjust to the 3-monitor setup.
Another problem is when you open up the map: because it is now spread across 3 monitors I find it harder to get a good overview of poi’s and wp’s near my position since you have to scroll almost all the way in before the map starts showing these details: and when you do the area you are actually viewing is pretty small and you have to move the map around a lot with your mouse to see a little more of your direct vicinity.
Off course with this setup there is a pretty huge fish-eye distortion at the far sides of the monitors: but I find this not annoying at all since you are mostly looking at the center for the action: yet I definately use the other monitors to soak in the scenery: it is a much more immersive experience overall. Good thing I don’t do PvP, else I would rule!
. The distortion is heaviest when looking up or down, btw: when you look straight it is not very noticable at all (again, only at the very far sides of the 2 outer monitors).
I am thinking of setting up my monitors vertically though: right now the horizontal fov is huge, yet the vertical is still a bit cramped. I am wondering if the vertical fov will also improve when I put the monitors in vertical position, making a resolution of 3600×1920, instead of 5760×1200, I guess it will.

I must say that I was expecting a rare chance on Mini’s being in the chest. Maybe they will add this later. There are so many ways to make chests more enticing, even for the more casual spender. I have a feeling that they kept the drop variety at a minimum to start with and see how it goes.
Once they get more data from the game and how players spend their time and (in-game) money, they can tweak the contents of the chest to become more in line with what people expect from them and what would make them buy keys.
The perm items are definately a step in the right direction, people should just see these as a (huge) bonus though when opening chests for other reasons, since the droprate is so low. Those other reasons however should include a little more then boosters, tools and tonics though.
Dyes, Mini’s, possibly skins. I think we may never see skins in the chest though since it seems Anet have envisioned so many other ways to get them: Crafting, Dungeons, Gemshop. But they still could add some really rare ones in the chests.
Yeah, I am gonna wait this one out. Tried 5 keys, nothing, that is usually enough for me to be deterred from sinking more money into it. I guess I am not that much of a gambler
(luckily).
I also think that the Mystic Forge will start to play a larger role as the game matures. RIght now most people probably see it as something for later use, when they are getting ready to get their legendaries.
I already use the Conduit on my travels to see which items that I have looted are recognized by the Forge as an ingredient, like the rare(yellow) Skulls that have no other use whatsoever. Recently found another such item, that seems seems to mix with the skull so that is rather exiting (please do not spoil the fun if you already know the recipe for this).
So the Conduit is very useful to me already. And since there is only the one Forge right now (Lions Arch)it will also save me silvers. It is easy to get to Lions Arch fro free (through the mists), however getting back to where you were is not.
Though I can see more forges being added in the future (cities).

I made a post but it seems to have disappeared. Is this the dreaded "45th "post bug? Where the 45th post just disappears?
I would definately pay Gems for a nice selection of mounts.
(that should draw some attention
).
I agree with the pro-arguments for mounts. I do not really buy the anti-argument of not bothering with DE’s anymore when mounted, actually I wish I could run faster to a DE that I know is happening. Having to run to that yellow circle is not always fun and some DE’s get announced in chat and are much further away. Would love a mount then, since I am not going to pay 2 silver for a WP, only to earn 1.5 silver with the DE itself.
Also, isn’t it always a great moment when the Cavalry arrives to save the day?
I can see them coming, Heroes on all kinds of exotic Beasts running towards your aid from all directions!
I love Mounts in Rift.
Not sure about mounts in PvP, could be all kinds of issues with it, though I definately think there is too much running involved in WvW right now (played a few evenings of WvW for my Monthly).
For PvE I see absolutely no reason not too. I would waypoint less and actual travel a lot more with a fast mount.
Anet would lose some of the gold sink that is waypointing but could create new ones with a Mount feature, imo.
Combine 2 Mysterious Tonics, 1 Slab of Poultry Meat and 1 slab of Red Meat in the mystic forge and you will get an Eagle Tonic(actually you get 2).
I could not find much info yet about the new tonics that you can create with the Mystic Forge, using the new mysterious tonics that now drop in the BL chests, so here’s the one I found.
Sorry if this was already described in another thread.
Btw, transforming into an eagle gets you very close to a first-person view, I found out. When walking around, the eagle pretty much disappears to the top of the screen, while standing still it disappears at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately you can not jump…. still, was nice to walk around without my view being obstructed by my own avatar.

I just opened 5 chests, got 2 keys, so got to open 7 chests. So keys are still dropping. The first time I opened 5 chests ( 3 weeks ago) I also got two keys, the second time(about a week ago) I got none. So for me it does not feel as if they have changed the droprate.
I will start selling my gems for Gold when the exchange rate hits a level where I can buy a complete set of exotic armor + 3 weapons + runes and sigils for arond 2000 gems (25 euro). At this point in time that would mean 2000 gems would have to yield at least 20 gold, which it does not. The last few days the rate is getting better though.
This may sound ridiculous but the gold to gems ratio will change a LOT in the future.
Not only will there be a ton more gold in the economy later on, there will also be a lot more exotic items for sale.
And once people are maxing out toons(item-wise), and their gold is stockpiling, they may want to start looking at the store for store-bought outfits or extra slots or other luxury items, thus needing gems.
Right now everyone has way too much need for their gold themselves, and I also feel that there are some really big real-dollar spenders right now that muscle their way into the nicest things that the Mystic Forge has to offer (I.E. Legendaries). They keep the exchange rate low, since these people have no problem forking over 50 bucks to get a lousy 7 gold (at which the rate stood at one point).
I would like to add that Everquest’s extensive faction system actually made for the best “world-changing” feature, at least for me. With this faction system, a player could at least change the world for him individually, by opening up certain areas like cities through grinding faction (killing a certain mob, doing certain quests). This was actually quit a big part of the meta-game: how to get a certain faction to flip over without ruining too many other factions in the proces.
Also lots of quests were tied into faction (had to get to certain level of faction for it to open up) but that is not so much a “world changing” feature. However, getting on the good side of the Qeynosians with your evil troll, so that you could freely walk in Qeynos , certainly was!
Through faction you could change the world for yoursel, yet you did not ruin or change anything for others. Maybe faction is the Holy Grail!
I haven’t played a MMO this hard again since Everquest back in ’99. Not saying it will get the same years of love that EQ did but it certainly has grabbed me more then anything else since EQ (tried them all).
I agree with the fact that world-impact of DE’s is pretty minimal though. I think the 2 biggest changes I have seen are all of the sort “Camp is occupied by enemy forces vs Camp is not occupied by enemy forces” and “Bridge is broken” vs “Bridge has been repaired again”.
The fact that these “states” usually flip over every 10-30 minutes sure does not add to the persistency.
And the impact is also pretty minimal, since a broken bridge just means you have to make a very slight detour (but still can get anywhere you want) while an occupied camp may mean a (usually not very important) vendor is not available.
Having said this, I am not sure how “cool” it would be if that bridge would stay broken for at least 7 realtime days and would actually barr people from accessing certain areas in the game. Very tricky slope, that.
I often wonder if there’s no winning the whole “truly dynamic world where your actions persistantly change the environment” thing. Phasing? Instancing? Changing the actual story/content of a world (Sleeper getting killed in Everquest anyone?). Not a fan of any of these. I never liked it when they revamped stuff in EQ, so……… tough subject for devs.
I compiled this list from several other posts about tonics, so thank you for that.
Right now tonics just use up bankspace, also because they drop so abundantly from Black Lion Chests.
Here come the suggestions:
- Make tonics tradable;
- Ability to create minis from tonics either through regular crafting, or through the Mystic forge; this could have a random element to it.
- Possibly add a benefit to tonics, i.e. increase rare items gathering chance, or more exp while crafting while under the effect;
- Once transformed you no longer aggro the species you are transformed into – could be fun for exploring;
- Add armor recipes that require a tonic – maybe masks, that have the appearance of the tonic creature;
- Tie tonics into an achievement;
- Make it so that the tonic buff stays through zoning (could be a problem with mob-models per zone);
Thank you for listening.
I think Everquest Epics were a little more in the OP’s alley. Those required pretty much everything, from solo-stuff to crafting, group and Raid stuff, and lots of traveling around the world. The fact that you needed a Raid for some parts probably does not fit into Anet’s philosophy, though they could replace Raids with DE bosses that drop a required item (the really big ones at the end of a meta-event).
Personally I would find it more fun to hunt down/participate in large DE meta-events in order to get an item(or even a chance to get one), then having to gather the insane amount of ingredients that are required now.
I think DE’s should play a bigger role in the cosmetic progression of a character anyway. Right now they just give sucky, generic loot, even if they are exotics. Or nothing at all. Itemization in GW2 still needs some work (and I am not talking about better statloot progression, btw, I know it is all about cosmetics in the endgame).
(edited by Tyncale.1629)
I overheard a Charr say: “Sigh, cubs these days”.
That made me smile.
Interesting experiment, thanks. I was wondering though if you should not have gone on for a little while longer, the fact that a certain type stopped dropping may have been the rng. Though for actual items not dropping for 30 minutes at the end of your experiment sure seems an indication that something has kicked in.
But good to have an indication of when to move on.
Hearts resetting after a week as incentive for getting gold/mats.
in Suggestions

….as incentive for getting Gold en Mats.
Off course all the other things would not reset (Skillpoints, waypoints and POI’s). I realize this suggestion will rub some people the wrong way, since it may resemble “dailies” and the old Quest-grind a little too much, but I feel Hearts are a good way to make money and mix up your gathering mats in a zone.
Now that I am level 80 and concentrating on crafting I realize that I must revisit some lower level zones in order to get the rare crafting materials. Most of these zones I have completed and the hearts are filled. Camping mobs in one place is a no-go anymore(I hate that anyways) so I was thinking the hearts were a nice incentive to “make a round” through the zone again, and earn silver to boot. This way you will keep moving through the zone, have no anti-camping issues and you get a nice chunk of silver and XP from the hearts and also gather mats in the proces.
Also, this way we may see more people again in zones that are now slowly becoming devoid of players. Earning money is pretty tough in this game so being able to redo Hearts after a week or so could adress some problems.
They could also up the money earned by completing a Heart a little, imo. After all, it is a very legit way to earn money, will draw people back to a zone and will also keep them spread throughout the zone.

The really, really immersive world. The vistas, the handmade look of mountainranges, caves, lakes, the constant dialogue of NPC’s, the children running around, the seamless transition to underwater areas, all the stuff lying around that you can pick up, and does odd (and sometimes useful!) stuff. Listening to the dialogue of an event-chain and just be immersed.
I can not believe some people that say the PvE is just a bonus in this game, that must really hurt the world-builders…..
I made this post in another thread but figured other people might benefit from my experience with this, or refute some of my arguments so that I can learn something.
So 20 points in the trap-tree will allow you to pick this trait that allows you to throw traps, and also make them bigger. I was really looking forward to this, however after having used the trait for about 30 levels after I got it, I decided it was a too awkward in most situations and not as effective as I figured.
I had the ui toggled so that the trap will throw instantly which means it lands on the place where your mouse cursor is at the time you press the hotkey. In hectic situations (both PvE and PvP) it is a bit of a hassle to actually find! and place your cursor so that the trap will land where you want it. This is being aggravated by the fact that the throw-distance is very small, so you will often get the “out of reach” message.
Setting the UI so that you get the target ring first makes it way too slow to use it effectively imo, also because the throw-animation takes time too (the regular “cast-time” of a trap).
Also, I find that traps are most effective when they actually fire off directly around me, since that is usually where most mobs are (In PvE that is), beating on me.
While throwing a trap in that cluster of mobs is harder then you think, because they usually move fast (towards you), or immediately disperse when it fires. This dispersing happens a lot less when the mobs are actually beating me, also because I use the Spike or Frost trap too.
Also the short throw distance makes it so that you always already will have aggroed any group of mobs which will set them to move. Do not expect to be able to sneak up on a clump of mobs and place a trap without them knowing it.
It was also less effective then I figured for using on Champion/Boss mobs, figuring I could keep some distance with a thrown trap: the throw distance is so small that you might as well close in on the mob, and use traps the old fashioned way, and then dodge backout. That way you will know your trap hit the mob (you were standing next to it when you fired it) while a thrown trap may not have hit the right spot, or the mob already moved away from the spot you picked.
The only thing I miss is the fact that the traps were also a lot bigger with trait, that sure was useful. For that alone I would have kept the trait probably if there was a way to set it so that it still fires directly around you (i.e. remove the thrown part). Right now, with my cursor usually being all over the place, it is just too awkward to use.
Mind you, you can actually get better with it, by somehow getting a feel of where your cursor is when you throw the trap, but the short throw-distance and AI of mobs just makes it less effective and fun then I would have thought.
Anyone else uses this trait in another fashion? PvP maybe?(Not much experience with that).

I am Axe/Torch and love it. The Torch 5 skill makes a nice combo with the Axe skills since it creates a firearea around you which will burn foes close to you but also will turn your thrown Axes into burning finishers, no need for tricky placement. I pair this with traps which adds to the burning fun (Firetrap is also a combofield). So even while mobs will move away from you, you benefit from the firefields you have created, with your ranged axe.
The buff from Horn sure is nice, especially in a group off course (since others benefit from it). However with the firefields that I am putting down (Firetrap recharges pretty quickly) other players benefit from that too.

I am using Axe/Torch and traps(upgraded), and in PvE it is lots of fun taking on a multitude of opponents this way. Lots of fire and combo’s going off, burning axes going everywhere and with a high DPS pet (Lynx) I feel pretty powerful. I have noticed I hardly use my Short bow (secondary weapon) because I feel it is too hands off in some way, even though you can use it in melee range. And the gripe I have with true melee weapons is the fact that you must observe your distance all the time; I also really dislike the /block and /evade type of skills, never use them. Mind you, I mostly play PvE.
Axe and Torch makes me feel I am up close and personal with a group of mobs(even though Axe is a ranged weapon), paired with the flashy fire of a Fire Elementalist.

Wanted to chime in here as well, totally agree with the OP. The stack should only be wiped if your pet dies, as per the arguments already mentioned above.
I could live with the zoning-restriction, but swapping and swimming is just something a ranger/player should be able to freely do without being punished.
Leveling up is NEVER too easy.
And once you hit 80, the game doesn’t end. You still need skill points for skills, and for mystic forge ingredients.
Yep, you may have gotten 80 levels, but now you need at least 600 more “levels” to get enough skillpoints for your Legendary weapon…..
I would never buy gold from gold sellers, but if I was forced to pick from a gold seller and using gems to get gold, I would pick a gold seller.
Yes, at the current conversion rate, the Trade Company is not really being the competitor/bane of the RMT market that they would want it to be.
I mean seriously, I would get about 4 gold for the 2000 gems that I have left, which cost me 25 Euro’s…
25 euro’s to get an amount of gold that would hardly buy me a single exotic weapon. Never mind trying to buy your way towards a Legendary….
Never worry about me buying RMT gold though, I will happily keep playing the game, and one day you will get some serious gold for your gems. I hope.

I am also amazed at how few gold you get for your gems. I bought 4k gems, no way I will convert any of them for gold for the current exchange rate. I always figured I would be on the gold-buying side of things(having no problem with spending rl money on gems) however with the current rate I am acually thinking of selling my 3 gold that I have accumulated and get like 1200 gems for it!
There must be some BIG spenders in the game, buying gems and converting them into gold right now else the rate would have gone up already, with there being more gold in the game now then at release. So far, prices still seem to drop! Big spenders trying to muscle their way to a legendary probably.
I forgot to add in my long post, that I am ok with the low timers as long as the effects at least are exiting and thrilling and realistic (as per my post above). You do not want to endure 10 thunderstorms in a single game session of 2 hours in some snowy zone, that would be cheesy and not fun. So uncommon, yet exiting.
Hi, I found this on google, to check your latency:
QUOTE:
“Sorry for the bump, but I came from Google, because I want to know my latency in guild wars 2.
There is a quick way, use the Resource Monitor.
Go in game. Play.
Press ALT + TAB
Press WIN + R.
Enter resmon
You can see the ressource monitor. Go to the network tab, you can see GW2.exe in TCP connections. At the right of it, you have “latency”. It’s your latency ;p You can get the ip from ure server too."
Did not try it myself yet, but this was a post from yesterday so very recent.
