Has this game gone downhill?

How has the game gone uphill then? There are less people playing and everyone is shuffling themselves to that new dungeon. So much harder to get a group to do any PvE content that is non dungeon.

I’m not talking about population. I’m talking about the ‘welfare’ of the game. FotM has made the rest of the game (PvE) less accessible than before.

You said there are less people playing. It is harder to get a group. Sounds like a population thing to me.

Play what you want to play. Invite people to play with you. Try not to get worked up about things like new dungeons if other people want to play them. That will greatly affect your outlook on the game and life in general.

The silent majority have already left this game, assuming we have 1 million players that would mean on average a bit over 19k players per server. (Assuming 52 servers)

Now from what I have observed, there is nothing close to 19k players on any server that I have played on.

The 1 million player count assumes half the players that purchased the game have already dropped it.

You can observe every section of every server at ever second of the game? That is a pretty cool ability to have.

The vocal minority likes to think they speak for everybody, but I am sorry to say we here on the forums do not speak for everybody.

Ah! thought you were asking a question and trying to learn. Instead you have your predetermined opinion already.

To answer this quote. Every online game loses a significant portion of the initial audience. The key is to get new people to buy in, but the population will possibly never be as high as the original few weeks. Also in the beginning people play a lot, it is like a feeding frenzy. Then people start to get full and pull away and play at a more normal pace. There is also a spreading out of population, everybody that was concentrated in the beginning areas are spread throughout the game. Those things combined will reduce the numbers.

Every online game has this problem. Every online game has these kinds of thread questioning the drop in population. Every online game is considered to be dead or dying within months of opening its doors.

For instance, here is a post in guildwarsguru asking if GW1 was dying less then 2 months after it was release. As we all know, GW1 still exists many years later.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/gw-already-dying-offi-t24342.html?t=24342&highlight=dying

I remember posts in LOTRO asking the same things right after release. LOTRO still exists and had an expansion release recently.

When GW2 will get a real chat system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The serverwide chats in LOTRO were troll fests. They may have started out with the right intentions, but it was a rare good sentence in the wall of poop the flowed out of those chats. Most people I know turn those off, that includes map chat in this game.

gw1 had just as many players as wow during its peak. would it have been so bad to steal some wow players and bring back All the gw1 fans who left after a year or 2 of eotn? and just leave the game ply alone adding the world dynamic events and closing the single person instancing? several years ago when gw2 was in development all i remember them saying was they were gonna change the graphics engine not the entire game im just feeling let down and depressed that gw1 is gone forever.

GW1 sold over 6 million total copies of 4 different boxes, WOW had over 10 million subscribers at one time. The 2 games were not even close to be honest and I enjoyed GW1.

Anet said that GW2’s gameplay style would be nothing like GW1 from the very beginning.

GW1 was impossible to balance without nerfing skills into the ground. There were to many skills and they could react together in odd ways. Remember Touch Rangers or any of the other gimmick over powered builds?

Ualtar.5047

I hate it when people say forum users are the minority of the community.

That’s too bad, because it’s true. It’s been true of pretty much every game. Most users of software including games don’t even SIGN UP for the forums, much less post.

Forum response is an awful gauge of reality. It always has been.

You are right. Political parties do this badly. They get feedback from the people that go to their rallies and events, and try to create their plans from those people. Of course those people do not come anywhere close to representing their nation as a whole. Forum communities are the same way, they are the most rabid (love or hate) users and as such are a horrible gauge.

The people who actually come to forum are the people who share their feedbacks about the game positively or negatively. those “who enjoy the game and play it and never bother the forums” are those who either mindlessly play the game or just plainly apathetic.

My wife plays the game and enjoys it yet will never come to these or any other forum. Is she mindless or plainly apathetic? my 8 year old son has an account, he really enjoys the game yet will never come to these or any other forums. He plainly must be mindless or apathetic.

GW2,a family man's MMO!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I agree with all the OP said and add to it. The mechanics of this game are perfect for children. There are no boring walks to quest hubs, no saying did you talk to so and so. Instead it is just walking around and exploring places. It is a much more natural way for children to do things.

I am far away from home for work, but I got to play GW2 with my 8 year old son. My 5 and 3 year old sons were standing over his shoulder and I could hear them telling him what to do. My 3 year old kept telling us to go in the water. Then for some reason he kept telling my 8 year old that he was going to die. Later before I logged off we had a lot of fun playing with emotes. They all (especially the 3 year old) thought the human dance was very funny.

Thanks Anet.

Good luck FA and YB.

We might be tier 2.5. Not sure we can hang with tier 2 but are a bit above tier 3. So Tier 3 might just see us again if we move up.

After a couple of hours got enough people together to take Green Lake. About 5 minutes later some big YB zerg (probably 3-4 times the people we had) showed up and took GL from us. All that work for nothing….

Anyways, lots of fun and good job on taking all of FABL.

I definitely feel that necromancers, rangers, and engineers are both on a different(lower) power level than most other classes, and also far less represented in wuvwuv/spvp.

The necromancer and engineer classes are plauged with a million bugs/foibles and the ranger just seems kind of… bland.

All three are, in a way, ‘pet’ classes, if you count the turret engineer.

Yay! i am different! I play a Ranger in WvW and I do see some others but not very many I suppose.

I really want to know what ArenaNet is planning for WvWvW.

Won’t happen and hear is why. If Anet says we want to do A,B,C and D with WvW, then end up having to change D to E or drop C because it isn’t feasible they will be called liars. There will be a 10,000 post long thread saying how Anet is the worst gaming company ever, and that Nexon is the devil and made Anet change D to E for more money. I think Anet is going to be pretty tight with the info they give from now on, and the community brought it on themselves.

Any chance we can get TC to stay out of YBBL and FABL for the next two days and let both servers battle it out for second. I’m sure we’ll come to EB and TCBL looking for points and fun but would be interesting to see the two servers battle it out in each of their own BL’s.

Some of us prefer to fight in Border lands over EB. I only go to EB when TCBL has no fight, and when the opponents BLs to do have enough TC to push anything.

I have heard about this thing called skill-based progression.

it’s a myth, that’s all there is to it. It’s like company make products to please their fans of previous version of their products, it doesn’t exist

GW1 with better graphics would not have sold well. I played GW1 for 3 years, and I doubt I would have bought an updated version of it. That would be 3 copies of the game not sold (me, wife, son). I got 20ish people in my guild to buy GW2, many of them disliked GW1 a lot and would not have gotten close to an updated version of that game.

GW1 ran its course, so Anet moved on. It is time for the fanbase to move on and except that GW2 is different.

“Vertical progression” (I hate the term but it does make sense) makes the whole being good thing irrelevant. Oh, you finished AC EM with a full group of 35s? Cool story bro, we do it in 7 minutes on our level 80 full exotic group. Inflated stats remove any kind of achievement from most of the game.

You got stronger armor at level 20 in GW then you had at level 5, 10, or 15. That is just the way games work. At least you can go back to old content in this game. Level 10 stuff as a level 20 is boring in GW.

You hit level 20 about 15% of the way through the game in the later two games. It was nothing more than an extended tutorial.

But really cool story, bro.

ok…but after 3 months it wasn’t that way. Sorry didn’t realize we were comparing a 3 month old game to a 2 or 3 year old game.

so umm…cool story bra

Ah, so we should expect the game to take a step back from the later GW expansions.

Makes sense.

Depends on what you mean a step back. If you mean having to build the game to the same point as an old game then yes. It is impossible to create a new MMO with say the economy already humming. It is impossible to create a new MMO with everybody decked out in the best armors.

Eventually, there will be expansions in GW2. For all we know new characters in those expansions will level quickly and obtain good armor quickly like GW1. But right now, you can’t compare Nightfall GW1 with brand new GW2.

Speaking of horizontal progression, a guildie mentioned this. They really need to add more titles to this game.

Coming from LoTRO where there’s tons of titles, a lot of the times I do extra content (even a lot of levels below me) just to get that title that fits so perfectly with my name – any one word title that starts with S.

There’s a festival event where you stomp shrews from a garden, that gives out “The Shrewd” title. You know I just had to have it lol.

LOTRO has been in existence for about 5.5 years. GW2 3 months.

Remember, that one of the reason people hated Radiance in LoTRO was that it was tied to gear.

It was the only stat that really mattered, which pretty much pigeon-holed people into equipping whichever had the most Radiance, almost to the exclusion of everything else.

Before they removed it there were a couple of suggestions that I remember:

— Have crafters be able to make Radiance gear (in addition to them being available as dungeon barter items).

— if they really wanted to gate content, make it similar to what they did with Angmar – have the gate be tied to a Deed/Achievement/Title/Passive skill instead. This is effectively what they started doing with the newer dungeons. You can barter for the gear if you want, but you can’t equip it until after you beat a particular boss in the dungeon.

The radiance thing was vastly different though. There was full set of armor that you HAD to have to move on. Each piece of armor was in its own separate dungeon. At first it was only part of your group that received the armor from the dungeon, it was totally random. So people would run a dungeon 30 times before getting their armor piece. That made them get left behind their group that got the armor faster.

You had to have the radiance to move on. So until you had I think it was 60 radiance you couldn’t move on to the next dungeon, and then had to have more radiance for the next and so on.

From what I understand, all fractals can be run without the agony resist gear. You only need the gear if you want to do the fractal as a higher/harder level. There is no gear gating like LOTRO did. Gear gating is what truly made people mad, not the radiance.

Yep, no new tiers… they’ll just deploy rares with exotic stats, exotics with ascendant ones, and ascendants with even bigger ones.

This is exactly what I’m worried about too. You don’t need to call it a new tier but it’s the same thing. Better stats are better stats – call it ascended 2 tier or ascended tier but with better stats than previously released ascended gear. Core of the idea is to calm the vocal anti-treadmill players by masking the treadmill under the same tier (tier-name).
That being said, the PR-answers Chris gave us actually did calm me down. A lot. He admited that they made several mistakes with this patch. And he actually admited it several times and appologized for it. Which is far more than I expected from this AMA.
I might get back into the game now, but will still hold on to gem purchases and will know what to expect in the future.

man… if i let every little thing that MIGHT happen worry me my life would suck and there would never be any enjoyment in it.

Chris actually said himself that this WILL happen.

No..he said they werent against it and he wasnt going to promise that it would not. Anything else is inference.

Actually nope. You are plain wrong. In his answer to E2 question he sais:
“That is why there is no plan for new Rarity Tiers of loot but there are plans to enhance or gain items within the existing rarity design whose properties continue on a shallow power curve.”

yeah that’s not new to this game though……

Of course they plan to add items within the tiers. Otherwise we would have the same gear for years. Do people really want to play a static game that never evolves in any way? That is a single player game, not an MMO.

But it doesn’t rival yours. Here we have a big leagues investment in the largest block of shares owned by a single outside investor. And, they have made that investment with absolutely no knowledge of what they were buying or why they were buying it. Yeah, seems logical to me.

If you invest in a company, especially just a small amount (14.7%) you want to get your money back and then some. You have to remember Nexon bought these share only a few months ago. It would be the height of stupidity to buy in and then start making changes in a system that you do not understand. Maybe you try to lend expertise or make changes after you have had enough time to understand the workings of the company you bought a part of.

That didn’t really answer it. Nexon would have pushed on NCsoft, and NCsoft would have pushed ArenaNet. There would never have been any contact between Nexon and ArenaNet.

So what you are saying is this. Nexon who within the last few months bought a small part of NCsoft. Nexon knows nothing about GW2 or Anet, and has never had any contact with them in anyway. Nexon somehow goes to NCsoft, and makes vague pressures about a game they have no idea about, thus forcing NCsoft to go to Anet and pressure them into some drastic change in said game that Nexon knows none of the workings of. That is quite the logic train there.

You really have no idea how corporations work do you? Nexon’s $688 million purchase of NCsoft isn’t a ‘hope’ that NCosft is going to be successful and they turn a little bit of profit. When a corporation purchases a part of another corporation, they expect profit in the realm of ten or twenty times what paid for it. They aren’t going to just invest that kind of money and sit on their hands. They had to have plans far larger than playing the role of a gigantic day trader.

Umm…yea….so that huge 14.7% (lol) that Nexon owns of NCsoft allows them to just walk in the door and start throwing around their weight. If you get this worked up about a video game and bust out that tinfoil hat then I shudder to see how you feel about actual things that matter.

Because they wanted to. Because they had some stuff ready and wanted it out. Because somebody got overly ambitious and jumped the gun.

Transmutation stone use gets punished

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ualtar.5047

Ualtar.5047

whaaaat?

My highest is only level 39. I barely have any maps completed, yet I have more basic stones then I need.

I am not sure where you are going with the part about the store, the stones are very easy to get. Everything that happens in the game is not a reason to complain. If simple things make you want to rage it might be time for a break, might help you gain perspective again.

He’s not talking about the low level stones. He’s talking about the high level ones, and the items he’s using the stones on.

ok, in that case then yes if you are going to use those like crazy then you might have to buy more. It isn’t some sort of conspiracy. They give you free ones for peats sake.

Getting annoyed with complaint threads for the sake of complaint threads.

The basis for the thread was more about an item becoming unusable for upgrading after reskinning moreso than losing/wasting a transmutation stone.
However, the free “Basic Transmutation Stones” you get from completing zones work for items 1-79. To reskin a level 80 item you need to use “Fine Transmutation Stones” which are very rare from BL Chests or purchased from the BLTC for gems.

There was no “pitchforks” and “hanging posse” tone in the OP. Ideally it would be better put in the bugs forum, but its a reasonably important bug none the less.

I think of all the “complaints” you chose to complain about, i think you should have chosen one with more merit for criticism.

Then the OP should have worded his post better and not used such a combative title. Also this section should not have been added:

The more you use transmutation stones, the more likely you are to run out of the free ones and buy them from the store. Which means that people being punished are more likely to be paying ANET money than the people who aren’t.

With that at the end of his post it turns his whole post into a complaint about how Anet is trying to punish people and force them to the store. Combine that with his signature saying Anet lied, and how is a person supposed to take the post?

Transmutation stone use gets punished

whaaaat?

My highest is only level 39. I barely have any maps completed, yet I have more basic stones then I need.

I am not sure where you are going with the part about the store, the stones are very easy to get. Everything that happens in the game is not a reason to complain. If simple things make you want to rage it might be time for a break, might help you gain perspective again.

ok, in that case then yes if you are going to use those like crazy then you might have to buy more. It isn’t some sort of conspiracy. They give you free ones for peats sake.

Getting annoyed with complaint threads for the sake of complaint threads.
He’s not talking about the low level stones. He’s talking about the high level ones, and the items he’s using the stones on.

Are/were bots good?

well seeing as how t6 crafting mat prices have gone up 5-10x what they were i would call that bad, they need to adjust drop rates now that the bots are gone, supply is low, and demand is increasing

Then real people will step up to fill that demand once they figure out the sell prices are actually decent now.

Where is everybody?

Today, I spent some time in WvW. Started on the Tarnished Coast Borderland, moved to the Fort Aspenwood borderland (wow you guys were out in force), then was in EB with a couple of guildies. Then after I went running, I created a new thief and played that for about 30 minutes in the Silvari starter area. Saw people in all the areas I went.

Well, think about it this way. Prices are going on up on materials so if I sell stuff I can make more money. This gives me more money to spend on things that people make or want to sell. I am also more likely to try to get materials to sell to others.

No matter what happens, it is better to put the gold in the hands of the players and not in the hands of companies that sell gold.

engineers with bows!

I don’t see bows working with Engineers. It actually takes quite a bit of strength and training to use a bow. That pretty much doesn’t go with a class that is based off of weapons they have build.

Dye your gear without using the same color twice, and try to make the ugliest thing ever.

I have somebody in my guild that does something like that. He uses many different bright colors that do not belong together. So ugly and hard to look at.

Guild contests are fun too. So far I have done a jumping puzzle one, and a screenshot one during the Halloween event.

hmmm….I think I just thought of my next screenshot contest. The Ugliest Costume Screenshot contest. It will be….wait for it….LEGENDARY

What is your favorite race and profession?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I enjoy all of the races except the Charr, their run animation is odd to me. I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of the races. Humans are good because they are familiar in our minds. Asura have some fun animations such as their dodge animation.

Class is harder to recommend because I don’t know how you play. I have played my Mesmer and Ranger the most and they are fun. I also have enjoyed the little I have played my Necro. So far I have not found a class that I do not like.

Dye drop rates???

Black is always going to be the most sought after dye in any MMO. People in general think black looks dangerous, and that carries into MMOs. So the prices are always going to be high since many people want them.

What's The Point of Guilds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ualtar.5047

Ualtar.5047

I think the point of guilds is the same in GW2 as it is in any other MMO. Your points could be said in any game to be honest. In all MMOs the point of guilds is to allow you to congregate with like minded people. In my case, that is a guild of people mostly in our 30s that want a nice peaceful mature environment. For other people it might be a group of people that all want to swear like sailors. For yet others it might be PvP that draws them together. That is the point of guilds, everything else is just a bonus.

Exactly, it did confuse me if the question was meant for Guild Wars or just in general . . . so I gave a generalized answer

I have seen these types of posts pop up in other games too. They seem to come from somebody who has been hurt in some why by a guild. Often it seems to be people that try to find their guild by joining random invites in game.

My suggestion with guilds is to research a lot before you find one. Have a conversation with the guild leader. Then think about it for awhile before you join. Maybe try grouping with guild members and see how you fit in.

I researched many guilds before I joined mine. That was in 2007 in LOTRO, I have now been with that same guild for 5 years. There was hardly a point to guilds in LOTRO either, just storage really. Yet, I am still playing with those fools. :P
