I know, farmed for 2 hours last night with a pack of people. Had full MF gear on, I got nothing though, just 1 other person got 1 chest, also in full MF gear.

But that’s even worse, beat RNG for a chest and then you still have to beat another layer of RNG for a ticket xD

A guildie of mine got a box from her first event, opened it and got a ticket. Sure I am happy for her. I am just so kitten off that I opened 12 and got nothing but karka shells and some passion flowers. I’d like a fair chance for everyone to get their stuff.

If Arenanet makes fancy weapons, people want them anyway. What’s the harm in making the weapons purchasable alongside the RNG chests? They keep their gambling and some people get what they want in the game.

This RNG is the exact same reason why I quit Rift a long while ago. I remember an event where you have like a month time to farm all the water/death rifts for a special mount. I farmed for over hundreds of hours and got crap. Some guildies did under 10 rifts (under 2 hours) and got their mounts.

I am all for making people work/letting people pay for items, but do it with so people can be certain they can get what they want. I think you will find a really big crowd opening up their wallets.

130-ish gold lost on trying to get fused tickets….I don’t see myself getting the skin I so badly want this event…
Sure they need to make money somehow, I totally agree on that point. Why not repeat wintersday for the weapons? Hell, they can keep the sclerite weapon skin tickets in the boxes for all I care, just make the weapons purchasable with gems aswell. People who feel lucky can still try out the chests and people who really want to dedicate to a weapon can buy it, with real money or gold.

Hell even with the precursors, I lost around 500 gold to the mystic toilet trying to get spark. I accepted that because that was for a legendary. This is a temporary skin, I really want to get atleast one of them for my main character.
Hell even if you pay a hundred dollars or euros, you are still not guaranteed to getting a ticket.

Please just make the weapons available with gem purchases alongside the RNG chests. Please.

Then you can still make the players pay gems for the skin itself, instead of an RNG box which the majority of the community already hates. There are more ways of earning cash than RNG boxes!

Hey again everyone!

After my frustration and sadness thread I started to think.

There will probably be no effort in making a dungeon to farm tokens for the new weapons etc so I will quit having any hope for that in the future.
BUT if I recall correctly, the weapon skins from Wintersday could be bought directly from the gemstore.
Why can’t these weapons be bought directly from the gemstore?(I know a lot of people who want to just buy it directly and they like these a lot more than the wintersday skins)

Also, as the title says, what do you guys think is a good price/are good prices for the skins?

I was thinking about something like:
Offhand 400 gems
Main hand 600 gems
Two handed 800 gems

Just curious, and hoping if Arenanet sees this, maybe they will actually bring back this concept instead of the constant stuffings of RNG chests.

I would rather pay like 800 gems per weapons than buy the RNG chests, but I really really really like the weapon skins and this seems the only way to obtain them so I will keep pouring in my gold till the event stops.

I wish they just made a dungeon and made us farm that for tokens, like the regular ones. Or just 800 gems for a single weapon and maybe 1000 for a 2 handed weapon.
Just so sad about the next event being an RNG chase again

I never implied I hoped it would suck for everyone else man. As I stated, I really wouldn’t mind some dungeon I would have to farm for the skins. I’d like fair chances for everyone to obtain those items. I know plenty of people who do not want the skin. Some do only for showing off how rich they are.

It just blows big time that you get presented with something really really great and then probably not be able to even obtain it while trying so hard. I mean legendaries are there for who want to spend time in it, they will still be here after the event. These weapons will be gone like the fused weapons, only the flame and frost event was way way longer than this event will be.

Hello everyone!

As many have noticed, the weaponskins are to be found in the RNG chests. When the skins were leaked I was immediatly interested and quite frankly really really happy. I am a big fan of organic weapons and these are just simply amazing.

However I am a poor student, I spent all my cash on gems way early in the game and I do not have enough playtime to farm for 100+ gold in a month.

The Flame and Frost fused ticket race was already horrible, I spent 130-ish gold on gems for the fused tickets….nothing and now we have another RNG skin race.

This has made me really sad Arenanet, I wish you guys would just put in weaponskins for people who achieved something. I do not care if I have to do a really hard karka dungeon for tokens and then swap them in for a new weapon(might even opt for a new karka armor while we are at it!)

Anyway, I spent my remaining cash on 10 southsun supply crates, also nothing. The only thing worthwhile was a mini faren.

I have been maining a thief for over 1100 hours and started out with a guardian, so I will give my 2 cents :P

PvE: Thief is very hard to play in my opinion. I got warrior, guardian, necro on lvl 80 and the other professions on lvl 50+. I found Thief to be the hardest to play. They are very fragile, you can easily blow your initiative(including your defensive maneuvres) and land in a very nasty situation. Stealth is really good to shove the aggro to someone else, but you have to know if they can take the extra attention from mobs.
You also need to be very very wary of your situation and know what might happen. Be prepared for a lot of things :P

WvW: Fun, just fun all over. Backstab stealth stuff? Sure, make people crazy! Want to get away? Stealth and off you go :P The moment you get focussed you have to be really careful and quick, that’s my experience atleast.

PvP: A bit of the same with WvW about the focussing part. PvP is really hard on thieves in my opinion. You don’t get to pick your battles that much so it’s more about trying to pick people off, roaming and if you can, hold a point for as long as possible and wait it out untill reinforcements come. Also that is my personal experience :P

All in all I think the Thief profession is awesome! Very very hard to master. They are hated by a lot of people, but they do not seem to realise what kind of player you have to be to actually be good in a Thief. The battle begins when you see an oponnent, not when you get close and start trading blows. Make use of your environment and play smart. kitten people off while they die and you stay alive is just a bonus!

Wow just wow. Drama queens all over the place because of the mug thing? Yes, thief burst needed to be toned down a bit. I think the whole CnD > steal > backstab thing was way too powerful anyway, and in Spvp you won’t even hit it off all that well!

Try something else instead of the WoW cheesy rogue or the standard assassiny thing. We are called Thieves for a reason, not assassins! Imagine us as the dueler, the wanderer, the guy who likes shiny things.
The heal will actually be pretty nice if you work your way around it, you will need to think on how to use your steal. Is it time to strike? Go for it!

Also, if you can play S/D properly….sweet kitten it can do a lot for you already. The boon steals are going to make it extra sexy soon :P

At the OP….wow really? Your topic and a lot of responses made me laugh really hard though, so that’s atleast good.

The whole gw2 experience, from lvl 1-80 is pretty kitten serious if you follow the heartquests, events, personal story whatnot. The dragons are a really big threat. Zhaitan makes zombies out of people his army killed. People die left and right. It’s serious business.
The dungeons and their stories, also seriousness.

This is just april’s fools! Nothing to be so grumpy about.

Immersion breaking? So if there is a cube, in rata sum(the city of cubes) which takes you to a minigame you can completely avoid, that’s breaking immersion? Ok sure, maybe if you hate 8bit stuff and creativity, I guess.
Also, this fits perfectly for asuras. Making stuff like this, a whole VIRTUAL WORLD in which you can participate! The idea of playing a game with your character is pretty cool…being inside a virtual world while being inside a virtual world…gameception?!

People who do not get this, I guess the joke is on you. Now lighten the F up or just quit playing this game if you cannot withstand jokes like this altogether :P A huge amount of people enjoy this content alot, maybe try and see why?

Revealed debuff, is it really that bad?

Hello everyone!

I play a thief called Thorgar Shadebeast for almost 1000 hours now. Stealth has changed a bit, revealed debuff has been played with and in the state of the game of a few weeks ago, developers were talking about adding the revealed debuff EVEN if you didn’t attack.

Now I read that thieves would have rather had 3 seconds revealed EVEN IF YOU DID NOT ATTACK than the +1 second of revealed debuff if you DID attack.

I mainly do PvE so I cannot talk about any serious PvP experiences.

Is it REALLY that bad? I really do not see the huge mega QQ nerf a lot of the people are crying about right now. Thief completely useless in PvE? No! You can still deal significant amount of damage. Yes a warrior can out DPS us…tell us something new :P
As a thief you can still be a huge benefit to your team(if you are not the cheesy full zerker glasscannon backstab guy who cannot dodge and dies 20 times ikittenminute time-frame).

The patch did make me a little sad that there weren’t any real good changes to thief skills, mainly traps. I would love to use traps but they are severely lackluster compared to the other utilities we have. Sure some good thief player uses traps yadayada but it’s nothing to write home about. I am still hoping for a slight buff in venomous aura range…instead of hugging range it is now :P

Try something else perhaps? I have been running with a venemous aura build for around a month now, and it’s easily one of the best builds for a PvE thief out there. You can still stealth BUT you heal your team/chill melee foes/give party wide vulnerability to dish out to some mobs and take advantage of/immobilize foes/turn bosses into f-ing STONE!

Perhaps try sword/pistol aggressive play with deception skills, tactical stealth, use it when you need it.

Maybe all this crying of the stealth state is because people see the thief as a simple rogue/assassin spin-off. However with the stealth in this game, it never was that to begin with. I believe developers stated that the stealth in gw2 was for tactical purposes. The Thief however is no normal rogue/assassin. I see him more as a wanderer, trying to earn a pretty penny with whatever he can find on someone’s person. Hence why he is not limited to daggers.

But yeah back to the question! xD

Is the revealed debuff +1 REALLY that bad?

Culling gone? Awesome. The stealth part, will have to see it in the game. Sounds interesting though but it may be annoying for me in pve. I mainly do pve on my thief, so that will be interesting.

Just very very curious I guess! Cannot really say it is a nerf or anything. More like working as intended I guess. We are not ninjas or anything. The cloak and dagger chain of stealth didn’t really seem what the developers intended :P

Hahaha true about killing a dude in his own zerg, that’s pretty cool. I do not advice it for new thieves because the multiple deaths can be demoiralising. If you get the hang of the Thief and its capabilities, he can be very very very mean :P

Also…if you solo a warrior….do enough damage to let him survive and use his skill 3….then dodge him and go in stealth….wait a bit…dance and laugh as he dies trying to find you…so much fun :P

Well, go full glasscannon backstab for fun and feeling pro when quickly killing some dudes :P Or just play however you like?
I usually play sword/pistol, pistol/pistol or pistol/dagger with shortbow. I have the most fun with those builds.
One tip is….always have a way out of the fight. don’t get drawn in too much and don’t be kill hungry as it will most likely get you killed instead :P

I don’t see them as clones but as people that aid you :P Maybe I didn’t read everything there is to thieves and that the thieves guild is a clone/phantasm thing, but I really thought they were real people you summoned.
That’s why I think the clone name isn’t all that fitting

I like everything so far but the shadow clone skill. Aren’t clone-like things for the mesmer profession in the game? Perhaps make it into one of the thief npc thingies like thieves guild? A new type of NPC would have to be created for the skill ofcourse, but I think that would be more like the thief’s other skills.

Also having the Rifle thief, ambus thief and 2 from thieves guild….rrrrr :P

Hey guys!

I was playing with my thief last night and went in fractals with a guild group. I invited my guild leader again but he started nagging about Shadow Refuge and other stealth skills.
We had the discussion before.
He says that there is a bug in the game which makes pve mobs reset if you stealth EVEN when other party members attack. I used Shadow Refuge on myself and a downed teammember in the Captain Ashym bossfight and started nagging again.
I tried to clarify that mobs and bosses only reset when either the whole party except stealthed thief is dead or when everyone hops in stealth and doesn’t attack or is out of range.

My question to you guys: Have you noticed bosses and mobs resetting while you had aggro as a thief, stealth and wait while other members attacked the mobs?

I know I haven’t

Just appreciate any experience!

Well…I think exotics may be needed far into Fractals of the Mists, so you would still need exotics to buff your stats for that little extra, that’s what I think.

People going in with lvl 70 rares will die, brutally :P

In my opinion, you should have around 100 hours of time into a legendary, AT LEAST…it is a LEGENDARY item….Held only by the warriors of old or crafted from the mystic recipes that were found in the most dangerous of places or using the materials of the sun, moon and other rare planets! kittenhould be hard to obtain. HOWEVER I agree with the people saying you need TOO much time and cash to obtain the Legendary item.

I would rather have it be a massive scavenger hunt and dungeon repeats than farm x gold. Or just up the ways to make gold besides being a total TP addict :P

Still doesn’t justify the 50% damage decrease on Dancing Dagger to me, could have been PvP only or 25% to 30% damage decrease :P

For the rest, yeah sure, can live with those changes. Just hope they will make the venoms/traps more interesting to use so we actually run something else than deception stuff :P (ok and scorpion wire :P)

I don’t use retaliation and I stomp all over thieves. I’m a meditation guardian. Its as offensive a guardian can get without going beyond stupid.

Thing is, no one ever said that thieves can ever win in a 1v1 against a guardian. What I’m trying to say is this is not the point of pvp. You’re not 1v1 in pvp, you’re 5v5, or 8v8. If I see a thief, yeah, I’m going to beat him. But if I’m distracted and you sneak up behind me, it really doesn’t matter how much defense I have. I wasn’t ready for a thief encounter and suddenly half my health is gone. I see these crappy thieves all the time. They jump me out of no where and expect to win in a 1v1. Then when I’m at 90% hp and they’re at 10% they start to run away. Flashing Blade, Judges Intervention, they’re dead. Then they go complain HURDUR GUARDIANS SO OP. No, you’re the idiot that smashes all his keys and expects to win. I’m the one that uses focus 5 to block all your heartseekers. I’m the one that uses smite conditions to remove that lovely stack of bleed you gave me.

Think for a moment. Do you really think Arenanet would make a class that is capable of winning, simply because they have the upperhand at the start of a fight?

Each class has their positions. Thieves seem to think they belong front and center in 1v1s. Wrong. They belong behind the opponent, striking them when they’re distracted. You don’t want to be focused. Me, I love being focused which makes killing thieves all the better.

Too true! I played a guardian for like 400 hours and now I am back on my thief(I like ninjas xD Especially since I am now a Ninja Viking…omg xD) and I killed Thieves easy enough aswell.

An assassin knows when to strike and makes use of timing and momentum. If people run away, we shall slay them, or atleast try to :P I still am too focussed on head on fighting and make my mistakes as the rookie PvPer that I am, but I am getting there.
Picking the fights is important, for ANY profession, but maybe even more so for thieves who think they can win any encounter. A hard counter is not a bad thing for us untill more people play Guardian and Warrior over anything else, I already see a crapton of guardians buffing entire zergs xD getting creepy :P

Guardian can heal 0 to Full health with 1 spell, we cannot.

Are you talking about the 3 minute cooldown, five second cast super obvious “check it out that guardian with the giant book is doing something and its taking him forever lets interrupt him” spell?
Because that’s the only full heal spell there is.

I so wanted to say that aswell xD laughed at the attempt of trolling, atleast I hope he was trolling otherwise he was just not really…thinking it through

Huge durations of stealth? No, only shadow refuge can give 10 seconds of stealh, which is long for certain, but that’s the only long stealth we have. The rest is 3 seconds WHEN traited, otherwise 2…The reason Thieves can stealth so much is because we pick our utility skills to do so. The other utility skills are quivering in the shadow of the usefulness of our buffed utility skills from this patch, they became better than good, which is pretty good :P

I am only bummed about the 50% damage decrease in Dancing Dagger, but if that’s everything I can easily live without it and use it for its main purpose which is cripple.

bow attack + axe responsiveness. The finishers/correct icons aren’t too bad anyway. The fact remains is they recieve more buffs than nerfs while they are already sitting pretty in the damage department. I would have liked to see something against the piercing killshot owning people in a conga line :P

So yeah, warriors did get buffed ^^

I don’t understand the heavy nerf on Dancing Dagger myself aswell…25% was enough, hell I am generous enough to give 30% damage nerf a chance xD but 50? Holy…. Anyway, the builds will not be shifted to anything else, Dagger/dagger will still be the bomb. Pistol/Dagger will still pewpew bleed people to death….No general pistol buff so that Pistol/pistol will be used more than the other builds, not even in pve.

Our already good utility skills got buffed, WOOOT, deception line was already omfg I love you skillz!
Our crappy venoms and traps(apart from shadow trap) haven’t recieved much loving, so there is still maximum stealth/escaping in utility skills(Deception)on a Thieves skillbar.

On the other hand….WARRIOR RECIEVED MORE BUFFS WOOOOOOOOOOOOT, Kill shot kill shot kill shot pew pew pew dakkadakkadakka unchanged! xD

I used CnD only for stealth and Dancing Dagger to close the gap. I mentioned before that 50% damage decrease on Dancing Dagger is off the charts(negative ofcourse)…I still see no shifts from current builds…on the other hand they buffed our already good utility skills, so deception line it is! xD

dancing dagger isn’t PvP alas, that sucked :P But for the rest, yeah.
Still there will be no shift in PvP builds because of this patch, was really looking forward to using pistols….but meh Also the utility changes….really? No boost for traps in general or venoms, too bad!

As the title says I am a bit confused about what has happened in the patch.

Dancing Dagger 50% damage nerf is really excessive BUT you will now use it how it probably was intended to use…to cripple for 5 seconds, closing the gap.

Tactical Strike got a 10% dmg boost, wooot! But a 0.5 second daze decrease..not too bad.

Cloak and dagger now deals 33% in PvP only(Only in Spvp/Tpvp if I am correct)…LOLOLOLOLOL so no change in WvW there? xD brilliant! Even if it counts for WvW….meh, using it to stealth anyway to get to the imbawtfomg backstab xD

Cluster Bomb 15% less damage, I don’t really get that, probably missed a strategy there.

So…from what I see….

All x/D builds got hurt when you use the offhand, which isn’t really a problem for D/D and S/D but it is for P/D.
Pistols got NO buff apart from faster vulnerability so there will be no increase
(noticable) in pistol builds.
Our already good utilities got a buff….I woke up, looked at patch notes and went HAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA at that xD
The new Shadow Trap is awesome though, really fun to use :P Still prefer Shadowstep, Shadow Refuge and Blinding Powder over the other utilities.

Is this really such a big nerf to our spike damage and compensation with survivabillity in other areas? I don’t think so!

P.S. Please buff pistols so we see cowboys in WvW (on the other hand, when waves of people die to walls of gunslinging thieves, that will be nerfed to kitten aswell, since it’s even harder to counter ranged xD Looking forward to a pistol buff anyway!)

Smoke Screen: This skill’s height has been increased to help it absorb projectiles.
Shadowstep: This skill is temporarily disabled underwater to keep players from circumventing walls when using it.
Tactical Strike: This skill’s damage has been increased by 10% in all formats. This skill’s daze duration has been reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds in PvP.
Leeching Venoms: This trait now scales based on the thief’s power.
Cluster Shot: This skill’s damage is reduced by 15% in PvP.
Cloak and Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 33% in PvP only.
Body Shot: This skill now allows players to activate other skills sooner after the ability ends.
Sneak Attack: This skill will now only apply the Revealed buff on the first attack that hits an opponent.
Stab: Damage for this skill has been normalized so that it doesn’t deal less damage from behind the target.
Bountiful Theft: This trait no longer applies aegis at odd times.
Scorpion Wire: This skill’s range has been increased to 1200.
Shadow Trap: This skill no longer shadowsteps the thief when the trap is triggered. This skill now has two additional abilities: The first ability becomes available when Shadow Trap is cast and will destroy the current trap. The second ability, Shadow Pursuit, becomes available when an enemy triggers the trap. The thief may choose to activate this ability and shadowstep to the enemy that triggered the trap. If this ability is not activated after 10 seconds, the ability will fade and Shadow Trap will be available.
Piercing Shot: This skill is now a small projectile combo finisher.
Ink Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.

Dancing Dagger Nerf a Bit Over the Top?

Well…when I saw the patch notes I went…HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. They nerfed most builds BUT the burst…and dancing daggers SHOULD be used for the cripple and closing the gap, not as a main damage source. I admit I used it aswell for some quick pewpewdaggerthrowingdamageofawesomesauce, and 50% is too much to make it usefull for 4 initiative!!!!

Norn are all about leaving a legacy, drinking vats of ale(sniff where is the mead?:(), fighting and most importantly….bragging and boasting! Your warrior is a stereotypical Viking I guess and you probably chose ferocity aswell? He just does his racial thing :P
Have some fun fights with him, drink some ales afterwards, talk about feelings and maybe it will be better!

Norn Thief (tallest dude with biggest beard and longest hair ofc!) lvl 80
Norn Ranger lvl 54
Norn Necro lvl 76

………My account is so Norny, it would make Vikings proud I guess…the coolest race in my opinion…would be a harder pick if there were dwarves though!

Norn Warrior/guardian/ranger just fits the race extremely well and that’s why you see tonnes of them running around, just like I mostly see Asuran casters and sylvari rangers or plant armored sylvari warriors

Question about Thief Utility skills and uses

Hey guys!

As the title says, I have a question about our utility skills and the uses of them and I would really appreciate it if you took your time to read and reply!

On my thief I have a really really really hard time taking anything else than:
Signet of shadows
Shadow Refuge
Blinding Powder
Scorpion Wire in some WvW and PvP instances
Smokescreen for Dungeons….

The other utility skills seem so lackluster, like the traps and venoms(even Basilisk venom now that it can be broken free of)
Am I missing a lot of the thief gameplay? Am I just that bad and cannot adapt? Or are the utility skills lackluster in general.

I mainly play dagger dagger with shortbow(not a backstab build but a lot of Hide and seek though :P) and also have a tough time playing with pistols and now sword aswell.

So what kind of utility skills do you guys use in PvE and PvP?

Thank you guys for responding! Nice to see some thoughts from other players!

I agree with Necromancer feeling and playing like a cool class(I liked Necro from Guild Wars 1 but it lacked the fluid feel it has in GW2, much more standing still :P)

But to Frizz, and I really hope you get to read this:

I have been playing Guardian for about 400 hours and thief around 150-180…I enjoy them a lot but there was still something missing for my taste. About the Thief I can openly tell you that I have not tried everything with builds, but with Guardian I have tried a lot and I actually find him more boring because of how easy I can kill people with it.

Necromancer is a hard cookie to play well, same as with Thief. I will not delete the other characters because they are my crafters xD Got Guard and Thief on 400 weapon, jewel, armor and cooking xD
Eventually a fourth character will step up to finish leatherworking and huntsman

I want to thank you guys again for taking the time to read my problem, ponder about it and reply! And you Frizz, thank you aswell for the exceptionally long reply and being open!

My reaction when I watched that video: Hoooooooooooooly shiat those bullets pierce aswell? Warriors can shut the F up about buffs and crying about nerfs….have they even recieved nerfs? xD

Hey guys!

Pretty new to the forum and my english isn’t my native language so please bear with me xD

As the title says, I would really like some help with choosing a main profession because I really am unable to pick at this very moment, which saddens me because I would like a permanent character to stick by(someone to grow old with….ha…ha…ha? xD)

I started my guild wars 2 adventure with a Norn Guardian…decided it wasn’t it I went on and made a Norn Thief!….Now I have 2 level 80 Norns and Thief didn’t exactly cut it either(while my main in GW1 was an assassin, Thief cannot be compared to Assassin at all in my opinion!)….so I made a Norn Ranger! The Ranger is left on lvl 54.
After the Ranger got boring due to the shortbow ‘animation fix’ coughcough and low damage overall I decided to go for a necro…I need an axe with my viking(if Guardians had axes he would have been my main, yes I need an axe xD)

The necro is so much fun to play! The axe is pretty crap damage but it’s fun anyway! Switch to dagger/dagger and get into the brawl or switch to staff for some AoE combined with wells! Oh dear…I actually use more than 3 different utility skills!!!!I am looking at you ranger with meh utlity skills!
But there are a lot of bugs with the necromancer and supposedly a big fix coming along with the Lost Shores event update, but hey, who knows :p.

Why are you necromancers staying with your necro and not turning to a strong warrior/guardian/facestabbing thief or even a mesmer? What keeps you guys faithful to your dark powers?

I would appreciate the answers!

I am actually pretty pleased with the staff hand animation, you channel dark powers via your staff into your body and release it through your hand while you stretch your left arm…seems pretty epic to me! Bounce would be SO SO SO SO SO MUUUUUCH better than the slow piercing line it has now, same as with the sound :P
