Hey, at least Engis get a cool helmet.

Which doesn’t mesh with the rest of the intermediary armours styles…

Seriously, I love the helmet, but Anet shouldn’t design it has a huge metal thing if the rest of the armour is so obviously leather.

how powerfull are each nation/race armies?

Hum… It may seems odd, but I think that if a war between the races should erupt in Tyria (and not in a vacuum), it would probably be the humans who would emerge victorious, by virtue of their diplomacy. Contrary to the Charrs, who are still somewhat divided -especially compared to the era of the Searing- Kryta would band together behind a leader (as I can’t see even the bandits and White Mantle sympathizers believing that they would have a chance to claim power for themselves if the Chaars launched a full-fledged invasion).

In such a case, I can see the humans rallying the Sylvari with relative ease, and possibly the Asura, by promising them spoils of Charr’s technology after the war, something that at least some Asuras would be happy to obtain. The Norns are trickier, but while they respect the Charrs, I think that they have grown to at least appreciate somewhat the humans (thought I don’t recall any information ingame about how the Norns truly see the humans -only Jennah) and some would probably come to help Kryta. After all, the greater challenge would be to defeat the Charrs, not the humans, right ?

Finally, Lion Arch would probably try to remain neutral, at least at first, but if the commerce was to comproised, I could see them helping Kryta too. After all, it is better to have the human kingdom as a neighbour, since it has signed treaties recognizing the independence of Lion Arch than a Legion aiming at total domination in the region.

And the Ogres are to be taken into consideration has well. The Charrs would have to either deal with them first (something which would probably alarm the humans in the Fields of Ruins) or risk the Ogre striking at their rear. So, all in all, I think that the Charr can’t actually win a war against the humans.

Yeah, I had to. And know the Karka number 45 is unkillable because the riffle doesn’t shoot. ANd the two times I managed to enter Sharkmaw, it malfunctionned. Seriously, Anet. Stop with the underwater or even slightly in the water content. It is always buggy and badly implemented…

And don’t put things to hunt in a godammned JP. Put them in really difficult places to reach on the map, but not in a JP. I hate those. If I could remove all of them from the game, I would do it, especially Sharkmaw, with its 99% chance of death at the entrance.

From /u/ScaretacticFhang on Reddit:

the “bug” where you drop the gun bundle to shoot the karka happens because you have NOT THE SAME SKILLS underwater as you have on ground. Swap your skills to be the same on both ground and under water and you wont drop the bundle anymore

Tested and confirmed to work. Even with Kits equipped.

It doesn’t work for me. Everytime I return to the surface, I lose the rifle.

Perhaps one more couple of questions, Gaile.
If I wait to get the game in a box or that I can’t buy it during the pre-purchase, do I still get a character slot if I have already an account ? And does a new player would still get the core game ?

A clarification would do wonder. Thank you in advance.

And, as simple as that… I can pre-purchase HoT, because the only thing lacking for me in the value, the 10$ character slot is added if I do so.

So, thank you ANet for having heard your community. But please, next time, try to take steps to prevent such problems, it would do you good, I think.

There’s another angle to look at the ANet offer. Veterans get more from HOT because they are given a choice – get a new account with HOT or continue on their existent account with HOT. New players does not have that choice. So veterans actually get the better end of that deal.

What ?

If I have to throw away everything I’ve worked for so far in GW2 at each expansion, I really can’t see how it is beneficial to me.

Your examples are rendered moot by the fact that you can create an awful lot of characters in one server in WoW, and switch to another server to create others whenever you want. It isn’t the case in GW2, and the previous expansion/campaigns released by Arena Net provided two new classes and two new slots (when you installed one of them, I don’t think you got 4 slots in total).

Sadly, Arena Nets generous offer toward new players has mutated into this bile filled cesspool of greed, entitlement and miss understanding. Those that cannot understand that this was an act of generosity and not a slap in the face to all existing players are not worthy of any freebies.

Maybe. But you know what they tell : Hell is paved with good intentions.

They just released two days worth of info on guild halls. People are fixated at the moment. I hope it turns into something worth reading soon as well, but the forums have not been worth participating in for me for quite a while now.

Except that only a minority of players care for the sorry excuse of content which is called Guild Halls.

So how about a little transparency?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valmir.4590

I think that they are doing brain-storming right now. My best advice to them is… cease the little reveals and go for the big one. We can do with content drought -in formation-wise- for some months. We can accept to have only lore articles on the site for weeks on end.

Yes, we can accept it if the next two weeks, the whole span of the expansion is revealed : how many zones, how many layers, how many “challenging content”, do we kill Mordremoth at the end of the HoT (we better kill him without having to wait for a LS new season. Otherwise, it is one less incentive to buy the expac, IMHO).

So, what I’m saying is : enough with the content droplet that we’ve been fed the last few weeks. Arena Net, you either go big, or you go extinct for many players.

So, please, go Big.

The Irony of the HoT Paywall

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Another unwanted effect of the Pricewall is that it doesn’t attract new players, because of the anger and sadness of us, “veterans”. Potential new players learn about it; we talk about it with IRl friends and they know how we feel. Thus ANet as a whole get a terrible reputation all of sudden, and potential new players choose to ignore the game.

I have two friends who bought the core game before its launch, but didn’t liked the gameplay and left very quickly. We often have heated argument over GW2 compared to other MMO (they really like TESo, for instance, while I find it clunky and not dynamic at all, but that’s another story) and now, I feel as if I haven’t any argument to oppose them when we talk about GW2. That’s really disheartening.

I’m going to assume the people here are veterans.

To all veteran players, calm down and think about what we have at the moment. What do we have that no new players have? Experience? Maybe. But what puts us at a significant amount of advantage due to our overwhelming amount of game time? The answer is GOLD. Not only do we have an excess of gold by now, we also have full knowledge of the richest gold farming spots that no other new player has knowledge of. This might be useless in the HoT value debate but consider this: HoT is available in the gem store. What does this mean? It means it’s worth gems and where can we get gems? By converting all our gold/karma/t6 mats to gems. Effectively we have a means of getting HoT at ZERO value as well…and we have a head start.

Why is this a reliable method? Well the price of the original GW2 (core game) is now ZERO. What this means is that future copies of GW2 is now being sold as GW2:HoT meaning that you can obtain a digital upgrade for approximately(?) 2500gems (or less if you wait for a sale). I am not denying that this move is shocking, but there is a way around it. Furthermore IF in the time that you have played the game you are still unwilling to invest in this amount of time to amass such a fortune, you probably won’t have the time to further invest in future developments of HoT (in which case your money and time is wisely spent elsewhere).

IMO I’m going to wait for gem prices to drop before investing in HoT…I think 6 months is a safe bet.

Do you know hopw many gold I have ? 52 gold pieces. That’s the max amount I’ve ever had in the same time ingame, even if I earned a lot more since I play, obviously. Among this money, half of it is the selling of gems unused after buying them with real money.

How come I have so few gold that when in Arah story made last month (for my first time there) I was shocked when a player told he had nothing, only 250 gold pieces ? Because I dislike farming, and that sadly, in GW2 the only real way to have gold in Pve is to farm. You farm dungeons or you farm WB.

Despite all of this, GW2 is my favourite MMO on the market. But I feel cheated by how Arena Net is handling HoT. ANd I’ve every right to feel that way. It doesn’t matter that I’ve more gold than a new player, or more stuff. What matters is that either everyone get a meaningful bonus, or nobody does. By catering only to new players, Anet is pushing older ones outside the game, as it is happening in my guild with at least on person, who was one of the most active.

So, if the trend continue, my guild could suffer greatly. it it does, I won’t have any reason to connect anymore, meaning that the cash I injected sometimes into the cash shop will be lost. And looking at the reaction everywhere on the Net, I feel that I’m not alone in this position.

Therefore, it is only the rationale position to say that ANet campaign for HoT is an abject failure and that they’ll need to rethink everything about it, and begin from scratch if they ever hope to get back older players who will have left them when the expansion after HoT will be released. Because I’m afraid a lot of current players will sit out during HoT, and that means that getting them back in the game will be twice as hard as it is now to bring back players already having left the game.

We can make fun of the Wildstar die-hard who proclaimed that everything was fine when people left en masse, but only for so long. After that, we are like them.

Compare the price of this expansion to every WoW expansion, which has either been $39.99 at release or $49.99 at release for the last few…and those DO NOT include the base game…it’s a bargain, but most of the people don’t seem to get it. The expansion costs $49.99 and the base game is included FREE, the standard version is ideal for those that have never played GW2, the Deluxe and Ultimate versions are directed at those that already own the game.

If I have to pay 75€ to have an expansion tailored for me, as I’ve already the game since before launch, then the expansion is not made for me at all.

Reread what I said. It states that it is indeed the same value since Anet is giving away the Core game for $10, where that is the price of a new character slot. Tow bundles aimed at two different types of people. I fully believe in supporting additional content. I do not believe in screwing over Veteran Players over something as trivial as not having a couple additional bundles.

I have no use for an extra character slot however. Already have one reserved for trying out revenant, and I could easily clear out a second one any time.

You don’t have uses for one, but many a player has. The content of the expansion isn’t worth 50 dollars/euros for me, at best 35. Adding a character slot would at least make the punch in the guts sufferable, like an Ice Bucket Challenge done for the game’s future.

You won’t find much about Guild Halls because, in all honestly, I don’t see the point with them. Why should my guild be forced to hang out in the Heart of Maguuma when it has zero reason to do so just to have a Hall ? Couldn’t they instance the kitten out of them and put one in each region (Shiverpeaks, Kryta, core game Maguuma, and Ascalon) ? That would have been a worth feature then. As of now, it isn’t.

Sell the extension at 30 for veterans players (i.e, those with an account) and/or add a character slot in the basic edition. Otherwise, players like me who have the game since launch but never managed to get much gold (because I loath the way to get some easily in game) will have to pay an extra-addition to have a Revenant. it’s insane.

Edit : oh, and when LS3 will come out, let people without HoT having it for their account without being able to play it without the expansion. Otherwise, I won’t have any reason to connect to the game until the price suit me.

Or do I get a special second account with a possibility to transfer what I have on my main to it ?

Otherwise, I do hope that the expac will have quick discount prices. I wouldn’t like to have to wait for months on end before paying a reasonable price for HoT basic box.

Ascalon as a non-Prophecies player

in Lore

Posted by: Valmir.4590

Valmir.4590

For my part, I think the main reason most human players who feel a deep connection to Ascalon are quickly angered by what GW did is because the game isn’t human-centric anymore (which is a good thing, because the fact that GW first of its name was human-only weakened the whole thing, and is the main reason I’ve never truly played it, even if I have Prophecies and GWEN)

With GW, we’ve got the other side of the story And while the Charrs were barbaric, violent and not a very great civilization at the origin, we know see how they evolved into the brutal monsters of Prophecies, and how they reclaimed a more balanced social organization afterward (with the lies, half-lies and denial that came with the fall of the Flame Legion’s “gods” and others but hey, I’m French and I know that my country hasn’t ended in Civil War after WWII because of this kind of lies, so…).

I really liked Ascalon Pre-Searing, and if you ask me, I think the side of Ebonhawke and Ascalon is more “in the right” but I’m also conscious that they can’t hope to reclaim Ascalon, not without a war among the Legions which would devastate even more the land. And in a sense, with the treaty, the humans have won. The Charrs won’t ever control all of Ascalon. Despite their numbers, despite their technology, they haven’t prevailed over Ebonhawke, they haven’t destroyed the humans of Ascalon.

I must also say that my stance my come from the fact that’ I’m an European, and that I find the way the humans are tied to their past and almost stuck in it a lot reminiscent of what I see in my country, and more largely in Europe. Here, we have old demons and ideologies rearing their ugly heads once more, and I know that for some (most?) Americans, Europeans seems far too tied to the past, not enough adventurous, etc.

But this characters stem from the weigh of History, especially the World Wars. And in a sense, when I see the Guild Wars, I see a mirror image of WWI, when the Europeans nations committed a suicide trough the monstrous battles that engulfed the continent. In a sense, the Charr Invasion is WWII, and what we are seeing ingame, the treaty between Charrs and Humans is somewhat the beginning of the French-German friendship after the war.

So, in this light, I find hard to side with any camp in those discussions.

One step closer to holy trinity with Ventari

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valmir.4590

The point is that some people WANT to play a dedicated tank or healer role. It’s not being forced, that’s just how they want to play, and if the game is really supposed to let you play however you want then you should be allowed to play those roles IF YOU WANT. I know a lot of people who said “nope” to GW2 just because it wouldn’t really let them play healers.

It does NOT mean that it has to be mandatory to bring a healer or a tank in the future. It could be better in some fights, while for other fights the zerk meta might be better, and other fights might prefer totally new strategies. There’s a lot of things Arenanet can do here.

You do realize, that the moment it becomes necessary or even preferable to have a healer or a tank, then that becomes a mandatory role in groups? That means forced roles…even if not forced by the game itself…but forced by meta. As it is now, there is literally nothing stopping anyone from clearing any content. What exactly is broken about that? What part of that needs fixing? If you want to roll up into any content with 5 nomads…you can…and you can clear the content. If you want to roll up into any content with 5 zerks…you can…and you can clear the content. If you want to build your character based on healing….have at it. If someone wants to build their character based on all damage…the same applies…not sure why people have a problem with this fairness? This expectation that a group should be forced to accept your play style or choices is pretty ridiculous. Groups are made of players…not AI, and therefore should be free to make their own decisions on who and what they want to group with. This game is about fun…fun is not being forced to reserve group slots because you need a healer or a tank to survive. By the same token that players did not buy this game because of the lack of forced roles…there are lots of players that bought this game because they were not going to be forced into these same roles. The minute I log in and see that I can’t clear content because I have to wait for a tank or healer to join….or that I cannot get a group slot because they need a tank or a healer instead…that’s pretty much the end of me logging in to this game. I’m pretty sure there is a large population of players that feels the same way. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot, ANET, by trying to cater to players who failed to read the original game description or to players who can’t/refuse to adapt to a new game and its mechanics.

That’s basically my stance.
I’m okay with more healer/tankish build being viable ingame. But I don’t want them to be required to do anything. I don’t want to think that I’ll have to have one tank and/or one heal if I want to make some dungeons. I want to play like I want, and it’s mostly being free from the Holy trinity that I love in the game.

I actually preferred the Demon Legend (and the mass and axe weapons) over the hammer and the dwarf legend. It felt a lot more dynamic and brutal. However, both the hammer and the other set felt really good with the Revenant. At first, it was hard to handle for me, but after some time, it felt natural to use this class. definitely a great addition, with some well designed animations.

Edit : the intelligent Mordrem are a really good addition. They look incredible, feel threatening and they have some modicum of tactics, which is great. And the first choice of the new PS is setting a great tone to this one (and I hope that it has lasting repercussions afterward).

Ascalonian Royal Line is broken... or is it?

in Lore

Posted by: Valmir.4590

Valmir.4590

I think she has a stronger rule over Ebonhawk than the Queen of England toward Canada. After all, the humans opposing the peace treaty call themselves the Separatists, which imply that they want to separate themselves from something (a nation or a kingdom, the second being probably the case in GW2).

I think that the inhabitants from Ebonhawke who aren’t Separatists are either staunch supporters of the Queen (seeing themselves as ascalonians subjects of Jennah) or for the most part moderate “citizens”, not feeling oppressed by the Queen rulership over them but not feeling that they owe her too much. Mostly,n it is probably isolation more than anything else which explains why the Ebonhawkers aren’t too happy with the Fallen Angels (whose name isn’t really that great to cheer up the local population… even if the inhabitants of the Fortress are probably quite grim, when I think about it) because they believe it belittle their worth.

Ascalonian Royal Line is broken... or is it?

in Lore

Posted by: Valmir.4590

Valmir.4590

This, although he does claim the title Duke of Ebonhawke. He probably could get away with crowning himself if he felt like it (and he’s not the sort who would), but it’d be an empty vanity at this point. Maybe in a few generations, once the settlements beyond the walls grow larger and regain some measure of their lost power and wealth.

It would also have alienated the Krytians prior to the treaty with the Charrs. Crowing himself King -or if one of his ancestors did so- would have probably led to some unhappiness among the royal line of Krytia, because some of their subjects are Ascolonians (in the Settlement) or of Ascalonian descent and could have divided loyalties with a King of Ascalon rising in Ebonhawke.

We already know that there was a low point in the relations between the Fortress and the reach (when the Asura Gate connecting both was closed down and let to rot until Jenna wished to reopen it in Destiny’s Edge book), so it is probable that the strain on the Kingdom of Krytia combining with some political faux pas from Ebonhawk led to those difficult times for the besieged city.

Furthermore, and while it is not supported in lore, I believe that the help of Krytia came at the cost of fealty to Krytia by the Ebonhawkers. It is quite probable that a King of Krytia ensured the help of his kingdom trough the recognition that the inhabitants of the Fortress were subjects of the Krytians throne (a fact which has possibly happened when the aforementioned Asura Gate was commissioned for the first time). I believe it is still the case, since it is a Krytian diplomat who negotiate with the Charrs, and Krytian troops who are coming reinforcing Ebonhawke and helping them beyond the walls.

Obviously, this fealty wouldn’t have been welcomed by the inhabitants of Ebonhawk and it is possible that it was their reaction which led to the Asura Gate being shut down at one point or the other. They If they are subjects of Krytia, it was surely for a very long time barely more than a nominative fact, and it is possible that the tensions rise when the Krytian throne take a more direct approach to its control over the last human city of Ascalon. However, if the cease-fire lead to a true peace, the hold of Krytia over Ebonhawk and the Ascalonian would probably be strengthened quite a lot, since it would be thanks to the Queen that the war will have ended.

The True Legions and their numbers

in Lore

Posted by: Valmir.4590

I think that the numbers are more or less correct (even if we have to consider that there is also retired veterans working instead of fighting) for the High Legions. But the fact is… that’s probably only the High Legions.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that in the Blood Legion homelands, and to the east, there is several Low Legions operating since quite some time (after all, if the concept of High legions still exist, then it means that smaller Legions have to exist, or this wording would have disappeared already), and the population of the charrs is thus probably larger.

The class and race reactions in HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Valmir.4590

Valmir.4590

Behind this nebulous title lies the fact that I really loved the tidbits of lore/specific informations that a player would get in LS2 depending on its class and race… And I hope that they will return to a greater extent in the expansion.

We already know that playing a Sylvari should have a great impact to the expansion content but I would be dissatisfied if the other races hadn’t almost as much specific reactions toward the events of Hearth of Thorns and before. After all, even if the Sylvari are perhaps the second most iconic race that ANet designed (after the Charrs, for me) I would be a little disappointed to have the other races left in the cold (since the humans have basically missed their chance to shine against Zhaïtan and that the other three races have their “designated” dragon already).

But how could other races react to the events of HoT in their very specific way ? Well, the most important is probably their reaction toward the Sylvaris. Charrs, Humans, Asuras and Norns should allhave very distinct behaviour toward them.

The Charrs would probably see them has enemies until proven wrong and even then they would only accept the Sylvari out of their sheer usefulness (much like they accept magic users in their warbands) and they would probably be the most open in their disliking of the Sylvaris.

The Humans would pretty much fear them and wouldn’t trust them but I could see them either balancing that behind feigned acceptance of them, or to the contrary outright “witch hunts” with the humans refusing to fight alongside the Sylvari.

The Asuras would probably try to experiment on the Sylvaris, with or without their consent, to understand why some of them are falling to the Dragon and others resists, possibly in the hope to control other minions (the Enquest) or free other minions from the Dragons’ dominion (much like it was done to Glint in ages past).

As for the Norns, they shouldn’t distrust the Sylvari as a whole, much like they accept the Sons of Svanir as long as they don’t act against them. So the Norns would probably remain the most steadfast friends of the Sylvaris, since they wouldn’t see a reason to not try to save the children of the Pale Tree.

I know it would require a lot of work from the developers to express all those nuances of reactions, which are still quite broad (not all the Charrs, Asuras, Humans and Norns act alike, after all) but I think it would boost the replay value of the HoT content and help feel the world more real.

As for the class, I also hope to have some minor references, such has a warrior describing how a dead Mordrem was killed (“It skull was crushed by a mace, probably coming from the right. I’ve seen that before”) etc. Much like it was done during the Season 2 of the LS, since it is only minor details but they also make the world more compelling and realistic.

Dragoneer is not an actual world. Dragoon is not associated with mythical dragons.

Also, Dragonhunters hunt dragons, they are not dragon-like themselves; not more than an anteater is an ant.

Dragonhunter isn’t an actual word either. Dragon Hunter are two actual words, and it would already be better. And the problem is indeed that a Dragon Hunter hunt dragons, not really Dragon minions or those corrupted by the Dragons.

Just saying… the name Dragonhunter is bad two main reasons IMHO :
-It is two words mashed as one to “fit” the idea that class and specialization names must be one-word only (which considerably reduce the possibilities for future names)
-It doesn’t convey what the class is supposed to be (while other names, associated with dragons, such as Dragoneer, or Dragoon, could have done the job)

By changing the name, Arena Net would show that its acknowledge the reaction of a lot of players (that is, most of the vocal players, since the “silent majority” is of no importance on such matters, because if it wanted its opinion to be heard, it wouldn’t be silent in the first place) and would preserve a lot of future name possibilities (just by naming the spec Dragon Hunter and not Dragonhunter, it would break the idea that I talked above that a class name has to be in one word, thus ensuring future names of greater quality for the other specializations).

I really dislike the name Paragon. For once, because it is a throwback to an outdated class, which have been superseded by the Guardian in lore, so it would basically be a Guardian reverting to an obsolete way of fighting. And already, there is deconstruction to what the Paragon was (apparently, since I haven’t played one or with one) in the exact same way I’ve done to explain why the theme behind the specialization (i.e a Guardian with longbows and traps) already exist within the current trait system; see the case of Kieran Thackerey.

Furthermore, a Paragon send images of either :
- some nun/monk being the living embodiment of her/his monastery Order and mostly a benevolent figure shying from battles.
or
- a devoted warrior fighting with his troops behind him to inspire them to greater act of bravery. The contrary of what this specialization is at its core.

And to that, we should act the fact that, just like the Dragonhunter, the name “Paragon” doesn’t explain what the specialization does. When someone tell you that he is a Paragon, you don’t expect him to use a long bow, traps and fire-magic traps.

That’s why this name is just as bad as Dragonhunter. Sentinel and Inquisitor, on the other hand, both reflect what the class is a lot better.

While I would love some housing (and honestly, it would be a cash cow with the Gem Store, I’m certain) the problem is that it would be purely aesthetic, since the Garrisons in WoW have been the source of problems for some players (they simply log to do the “chores” to reap some rewards) , so it could be problematic.

Yes, that’s a possibility, and I honestly hope that the LS will be used for more political intrigue instead of fight against the Dragons, because I think it is more fitting for the scope of the LS, because Inquisitors or the very fact that the Sylvari are actually mistrusted. I think it would allow for a deeper lore without taking too much for more traditional updates.

The Flame Legion, Genesis, not the Burning Legion (in your 4th paragraph).

Otherwise, I like Inquisitor (even if it was used by the White Mantle 250 years ago, but their could be way for the lore to explain this use, possibly with some Sylvari being actually terrified of some of their kind being traitors and going out of their way to uproot them).

Paragon is even worse, because it isn’t clear on what it is , except for some veterans from GW, and thus basically means nothing to a lot of players. I mean, is it a Paragon how hatred, of valour, of wisdom, etc.

Arbiter doesn’t translate well in other language, and it’s name, just like the Paragon, doesn’t say what it would do. And when I hear it, I think of a referee, because Arbiter is very close to the French world for referee.

Sentinel is actually a pretty good name, because it can relate to both Heavy Armour protector and a warrior using a bow. However, the small problem it has is that it is too defensive compared to the drive (lore-wise, that is) which exist actually behind the Dragonhunter. But I would like the Sentinel, I’m sure.

As for other names… It is actually kind of difficult, because there isn’t many who can say what the specialization would do (traps and long bow).

Lore wise, the Guardians draw their power from their dedication to something, and they often see themselves as the protectors of the people of Tyria. They also happens to be over-zealous in some

The Elder Dragons are the most important threat to the people of Tyria, as it has been demonstrated by Mordremoth recent awakening and the destructions which have followed. With that in mind, it is no surprise that some Guardians would take a more pro-active stance toward the dangers of the Dragons, instead of the more defensive behaviour of most Guardians. That’s why some would delve into draconic knowledge and would devote themselves to destroying them and their minion.

And it’s that devotion which explains why the other classes aren’t “dragonhunter” or more exactly draconic-themed. the other class doesn’t feel the need to act as such, instead preferring to develop new form of magic (Chronomancer and probably the Tempest), more direct power (the Reaper, who strike me as a Necromancer going out of his way to unleash his fury on his enemies, but I can be wrong) or are seeking to better survive and exploit the possibilities of the Jungle with the Druid.

So far, the only profession whose specialization I’ve actually difficulties to understand is the one for my main, the Engineer with hammer. After all, the Engineer is somewhat mobile (at least with its elixirs and guns) and with some long-range to mid-range attacks (the grenades and the flame-throwers) and I’ve a hard time understanding why an Engineer would use a two-handed hammer to crush his foes (while the mobile drones seems to be an amelioration of the turrets, probably using a bit of the golem-technology to grand them limited ability to follow the Engineer and protect him).

There is no relation to the Guardian core class and dragons or dragon-themed abilities and despite your claims you have failed to provide one.

I’ve done so many times. it is simply that you refuse to accept it, because it would destroy your argumentation (which is very weak and without solid evidence, beyond of your disliking of the name). And changing the theme is a revamp of the Specialization. Because the theme isn’t the name itself, but the reasons behind it.

Your argument is literally “anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and they don’t have any good reason for it”. It’s a very unhealthy way to carry a debate. There have been plenty of good points by people from both sides, so please don’t try to insult people with an opposing view.

All I’m saying that the core theme of the Dragonhunter already exist in the Guardian traits and that there is lore reasons for why the Guardian is the one getting that name/relation to Dragons, and not the Warrior, the Elementalist or anybody else. And I’m saying that despite the claims of some people here, those elements exist, make senses and provide the basis for the specialization, thus making the Dragonhunter just as solid as the Chronomancer and the Reaper.

I’m also saying that I dislike the name of the Guardian specialization, but that I can perfectly understand the relation between the class and the specialization, and that the draconic theme as to stay. I’m also saying that despite the beliefs of some here, a draconic theme is necessarily supposed to be a class using Dragon-like powers, for various reasons.

Once more, I dislike the name as it is. I simply happen to also dislikes the way some people are expressing their distaste for the name, or how they basically want a full revamp of the specialization. I also happen to really dislike names such as Warden or Paragon because the first doesn’t fit with the specialization giving the idea that it is just another name for a basic Guardian (instead of a specialization) and because the latter means nothing, except for people having played one of them/with one of them (something I haven’t).

I happen to like the theme of the Dragonhunter, the way Arena Net can develop it and the only thing I dislike is the name, and I find the drama about it to being more and more obnoxious, because the strongest points were made long ago now and all what remains is the rehearsal of weakest points. And I’m afraid that it means that Arena Net won’t even consider changing the name.

Ok, let’s summarize Vlamir’s intervention :
“You are close minded because reasons. Thus you’re wrong in everything you could say. That’s all Whatever you say I won’t bother taking it into consideration or even respond, because I decided you are all wrong despite 30 pages of arguments that I don’t want to hear about anyway”

You know, that’s not how you’re supposed to argue if you want to make your idea stands out…

You’ve got it all wrong.
That’s people saying that everything is bad in the Dragonhunter with very weak justifications (“ZOMG, we all kill Dragons” as an example) instead okittennowledging* the fact that the theme behind it is fine, that it is a potential and natural expansion for the Guardians and that only the name sucks, which have no articulate argument, refute everything is said to them, to the point that there is no point arguing with them.

And that’s because they show no argumentation, only blind hatred of everything about the Dragonhunter, to the point their hurt their rightful demands of a name change for a name which is indeed bad. The Draconic theme fit the guardians, they are the class infusing their skills with fire, they are the more dedicated to a cause (because it is how they’ve got their power, their dedication to something) and the Elder Dragon and their minions are the most present threat to Tyria as of now.

I could try to write a lot about it, but I won’t bother. You are a part of those people who have chosen to reject everything about the Dragonhunter for very silly reasons, and I don’t see why I should bother to try to talk to a wall.

They have chosen to study them more thoroughly than others, and have chosen to reflect it in their name. It is also a reminder than the greatest dangers in Tyria are the Elder Dragons, and tat by hunting them down, the Guardian protect the people.

That’s as simple as that.

Honestly ? i hope some lore this week, and then a feature next week, and then we will return to the Elite Specializations. As much as I like the latter, I really want to learn more about the Lore of the jungle right now, especially its inhabitants. With some luck, the Hyleks and Exalted aren’t the sole civilizations of the Jungle.

No. That is a ridiculous stretch.

Only for closed-minded person who have chosen to hate everything about the Dragonhunter because it doesn’t have the kittentier name of Paragon.

@Black Box
As I have said, the name is bad, but the evolution of the Guardian toward it is plausible, and that’s why most of the people arguing against the name fail to provide counter-argument against it which would have some values. They dislike the name and then reject totally the specialization, going out of their way to pretend that this evolution of the Guardian doesn’t make sense, using fallacies and circular logic.

In doing so, they are weakening their point, and I while I dislike the English name, I can’t simply let it slip. The one and only thing which has to change is the name, and it can retain a draconic-related theme, because in Tyria, the greatest evil that we know of right now are the Elder Dragons and their minions.
