Used existing in-game practices to knowingly exploit a flaw, one which likely escaped the grasp of the QA team, in order to gain unintended and unnecessary amount of money. Keep in mind, when they have a system where in-game currency can become the same virtual currency bought with real money, it’s only natural that any methods of exploiting the design of the game in order to obtain very large sums of this virtual currency would be shut down in order to protect their interests.

Yes, there was a Dev or CC/Mod post saying this was okay. The obvious reasoning behind this being an acceptable practice is the financial gain for ANet.
So, because it doesn’t benefit you, the player, financially, it’s ok… Anyone else seeing a pattern in what’s ban-worthy and what isn’t?
They’re running a business. What did you expect? Charity?
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Well I suppose it was a system based on the principle that the average person is not a kitten.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Ah. Bait and switch. I love how the old buzzwords still lay dormant beneath the surface, resurfacing at times like these.
Seriously, why is everyone so angry exactly? It was an exploit – they obviously did not intend for people to be able to get such gross amounts of commendations, nor did they intend for keys to be able, through this system, to be “bought” for under the BLTC price. They can’t prepare for every eventuality for every action they take, so sometimes something like this is all that they can do. They’re running a business.

It’s sad, GW1 rocked from the start, GW2 does not even come close.
It’s funny. I see a lot people saying this, but to me I recall the first year of Guild Wars 1 being filled with maybe as much negativity as this game. That game went on to have 6 more years of success.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
I don’t even support this entire post myself, the problems you mention are real. But I want to give perspective and prove to you that maybe, just maybe, your imagined problems aren’t nearly as game breaking as you may believe. The game is good, not perfect. It’s also very young. Keep that in mind.
Wisdom right here.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Judging by the plethora of similar posts I’ve seen since even the beginning of the game, every day has been a tipping point where the fate of ANet hangs in the balance as an angry mob readies their torches and pitchforks and prepares to storm the barricades in order to fufill their self-righteous goals.
It never happens.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Still, it’s pretty degrading, and coupled with the racism and profanity and whatnot they certainly could use a lesson in common decency.

Better yet, report them for derogatory behaviour.

When your excuse for not taking full 8 hour shifts is that “you will hit diminishing reaturns”
When you fear your job is going to get nerfed soon because you are farming too much money.
When your boss offers you a raise, you fly into a rage and quit because it introduces “vertical progression”.
Boss.3072: Son, you’ve been doing a mighty fine job. I’d like to offer you, I say, I’d like to offer you a raise.
Employee.9012: Are you kidding me?! This is Dolyak kitten! I quit!
Boss.3072: (puts palm up to mouth and speaks to invisible audience) Something tells me this boy’s been playing a little too much Guild Wars 2
(sorry, couldn’t resist)Something tells me you watch too many bad sitcoms. holds hand up to mouth then realizes he’s not a middle aged woman shocked by a flasher and removes his hand
let me re-interpret your suggestion though :P
Boss.3072: Son, you’ve been working part time here for months, we’re aware that you told us you’re limited to how many hours you can work, but I’m afraid that we have to ask you to work full time, if you don’t like this change up, then I’m afraid that your best option is to quit.
Employee.9012: Woah hold on a minute, when you hired me right out from under my old boss you told me that the hours would be flexible and short and that I’d be treated differently than your other employees at your other factories! so you’re basically doing what you said you wouldn’t do when you hired me!
Boss.3072: We feel this direction is better for the company regardless of your feelings and we reserve the right to start moving in this direction, and plenty of our other employees see no problem with this
Employee.9052:OMG, I’m so sick of employee’s complaining about the changes in hours and pay cuts! this job is better than no job! sure I could make more money on benefits, or work another job for twice the pay. But this is insert company name here
Employee.5670: Another one of these whinge employees?? ugh why don’t you just quit like the other thousands of employees, or join the picket line outside that just formed full of those hundreds of thousands of disgruntled workers! complainer!
Boss.3072: UH OH! looks like we have another whinge dialogue going here, better ignore the issues he raised and lock you all out of my office and possibly suspend you all cue audience laughter
You know you play Guild Wars 2 too much when… you expend the effort to take someone’s harmless comedy and transform it into an ideological rhetoric.

In the end it’s just people who evidently invest too much of their life into a game with too high of an expectation as to how it will somehow elevate them beyond the mundanity of their existence. Despite protests to the contrary, this is all I have seen.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
people trying to rez my clone that is always fun to watch… especially when i am close to death…
I see this way too much. Here’s a tip – clones aren’t the ones with text boxes containing profanities above their heads.

I’ve played well over 10 different MMOs (ffxi, and ffxiv being my favourite), including hello kitty online
These sort of preclude the information following them to be automatically irrelevant, considering the first two are a very, very different animal than GW2, and I would have preferred living life without the knowledge that the third existed.

Well the (supposed) real knights were in reality all subject to Arthur so have one trusted guy as the head and have the rest be all equal and whatnot.

At least do the right thing and try to get everyone together for a sort of council on the future of the guild before you start tossing out eviction notices.

I share your sentiments but what is certainly very characteristic of most youth today is a lack of a certain trod-upon virtue known as patience.
Okay the “Youth” thing is getting old.
the so called “youth” you are tlaking about are right now between 20-30 years old, not the teenage boy’s who first played warcraft when it came out.
If you would do some reasearch,.. then you would have found out that there is a pr disaster going on.
you would find out that people have legitimate concerns, and that A-net is just saying “well though luck”.
I’m not talking about physical youth.

Anet’s list of black eyes:

Avignon – Yossarian!!!

Well they’ve compensated for the current lack of capes with a plethora of available long coats, surcoated armors and flowing robes and such. Here’s hoping capes do make it back in somehow, but I think with the cloth physics they’re using it would look pretty bad when you’re doing activities like swimming.

It’s really a secret message to the players that the corporate takeover is nigh…
Or it’s just an odd-looking rendition of an ash leaf or something.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
The simple solution would be not to go afk.

I think it means the forum community has finally gone over the conspiracy-theory edge. Since we all believe the whole “Nexon controls ANet” thing, we won’t have to worry, because the world’s going to end soon too, right?
Not sure if serious..?
I’m aware they have 14.7% of shares. I didn’t realize 14.7% shares translated into Nexon growing waxed curly moustaches and plotting the demise of Guild Wars 2 and the world as we know it.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Right, Nexon’s really calling the shots in NCSoft. And they’re run by the Knights Templar, who are funded by the Illuminati, and their creation of Guild Wars 2 was all to cover up the whole ancient aliens thing.

It’s just that people seem to expect the game to be flawless and perfect right out of the gate. No game is, and in the past, they often stayed flawed. People are just expecting ANet to wave their magical faerie wands and instantly make the game right again, and they think screaming and shouting at them will speed up the process. As it is, the creation of a patch is a difficult endeavour, both to properly create it and to implement it.
The best thing you can do is alert them to the existence of such problems and then give ANet an incredibly valuable and rare item: your patience.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Ah, here we go….
You opened the door :P
Nope. I offered an opinion of a game.
Now you’re going to whip out your kitten to as if it’s a legitimate argument.
Buh-bye
The original poster offered a full detailed explanation of his point of view, the atleast you can do is match it with an argument that is equally substantial in information.
My information is, if you dislike the game so much that your able to write a long detailed report about it on the forums.
You dislike the game enough to leave.
I don’t like people complaining for the sake of complaining or just complaining in general to the masses to get sympathy. Personally i dont see the freaking point in all of this, there’s no subscription stop playing. That’s all.
Really guys.
If you don’t like playing and you can point out so many faults with the game.
Stop. Playing.
No one is forcing you, not even that dreaded monthly bill.
See, this would be optimal, but as it happens people apparently express their “love” for ANet and the game via their borderline-hatemongering critiques and obligatory “I’m leaving” posts. Because saying your leaving improves the game, apparently.
Fortunately, people like the OP provide constructive criticism.

I want ALL the cake and I want to eat it all too. On a silver platter while you’re at it.

Suffice to say Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 are very distinct games, sharing basically only the lore between them. Learn this, and take off those nostalgia goggles.
Keep in mind that in Guild Wars 1 “Different Builds for Different Situations” meant “One Good Build per Situation per Profession or you’re never finding a group”.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Point out another game which was completely and absolutely flawless 3 months after it released.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
There is always vertical progression. What makes it a grind is if it’s a chore. Even Guild Wars 1 had a modicum of vertical progression.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
I’m certainly not giving them a second chance, as they have yet to betray my first.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Well Staves and Scepters are a whole other ballpark as their attacks can cause markedly different effects from profession to profession.
In regards to the basic attack speed, yes, it’s roughly the same between pistols andrifles for the primary attack. What makes pistols and other ranged weapons better is the skill diversity they bring to the table. The primary attack isn’t that important overall.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
If all dungeons are leveled like FoM, I’m done. Period. The leveling system in FoM has done nothing but polarize players and marginalize the ones who are not level x^10. And without a proper group finder, many (especially newcomers to GW2) will find themselves deadlocked in levels 1-3 indefinitely.
All of the dungeons would benefit from a second look by the devs, but leveling them like FoM is definitely not the way to go.
Coincidentally the hard mode feature in Guild Wars 1 was highly praised.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
I think the lodestone transferral idea has quite some merit.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
I wouldn’t mind a hard mode, and I have no doubts that there will likely be one, seeing as it was quite prominent and popular in Guild Wars 1 after they added it.
Prepare for gross amounts of misinterpretation from people who only look at the title though.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Not really fixed.. it should have a title and be no deaths ever
This would be very much against the philosophy of the game. You know, crafting your character and such. It would be very much contradictory to have the player toss away their characters for this title.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Interesting find.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande

The only semi-accurate statistics in existence are censes, which are mandatory. Unless you can get a mandatory questionnaire to the entire population of Guild Wars 2, none of the statistics you present will ever be able to be construed as representing the population or even a microcosm of the population.
Especially if your questionnaire is missing some key questions, suggesting you’d rather not know the answer to them.
It works in ways other than in the one you’re obviously insinuating.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
But there isn’t zero vertical grind. You still need to work your way up to exotics. At no point did they say there would be no vertical progression.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Please see raine’s post (third one in the thread), it sums it up nicely.
There was no “legendary gap”.
There was a lack of variety in the choices of gear skins which should have been addressed rather than add a dungeon and tear tier incongruous with the rest of the game, but no “gap” existed pre-patch.
Please then refer to my posts. It’s not about statistical gaps.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
If you think that MMOs should be more like pen and paper games then you have serious issues in examination of feasibility.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Is it suddenly about work? When I log in and begin playing, is my fun automatically stifled from the looming Sword of Damocles of Ascended gear? I think not, and if that’s the case for you, you need to have a deep examination of your psychological processes.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Since Ascended gear will create the standard WoW-style haves and have-nots and worse, will put those who don’t have it at a disadvantage in WvW, I’m against it for the same reason I’m against corporate and military power being used to oppress the poor and powerless.
Although I’m less concerned about Ascended gear than I am about real world bully tactics, since I’m %99 positive no one is going to actually die from Ascended. Unless, of course, someone really does try to farm up all those mats. Hopefully no stories of people found dead in their chairs with the GW2 loading screen on their monitors will surface.
We need a hitler video where he raves about ascended…
I still think the bigger issue is the following combination:
Ascended + high FOTM challenge levels + FOTM gating = lots of people feeling compelled to do something they don’t want (emptying the rest of the world and making for VERY testy players), and the FotM gating mechanism preventing people trying to group for it from gaining optimal outcomes for each person.I dare say the fact Ascended is not available through every means like exotic is a much greater problem than the simple presence of Ascended, as gear seems to be a much smaller factor in this game than others.
How do I put this delicately? Gamers are stupid sometimes. Why should we feel compelled to chase this gear at all? It clearly isn’t fun to get, so I’m not going to try to get it. Nor will I try to compete against it in WvW or for teams in PVE. I’m just going to wander solo until I find something better to do.
I am not a hamster, after all, and I will not act like one. I wish other people would stop acting like hamsters, too, maybe then finally we can get a decent MMO that doesn’t treat us like hamsters.
That’s the thing: this MMO treats you like a hamster for as long as you think of yourself as one.
Keeping up with the Hamsters requires acting like a Hamster. As soon as Ascended was announced, I knew I was done with WvW and would avoid grouping in PVE even more than I already did. But I wouldn’t have had to lose my favorite part of the game (WvW) and become even more antisocial if everyone else refused to be a hamster, too, because then they never would have dared put this gear in.
Don’t let other people affect you then. If your actions are directly influenced by the avoidance of people with certain behaviours, do you not inadvertently exhibit a pliability to those behaviours?
