Community wants plethora of endgame content, spurns grinding for legendary gear, traditionally associated with the MMO “endgame”. Good job folks.

It’s not the fact that people’s opinions are less important than others, which they aren’t, it’s that people feel the need to foist their opinions down the throat of others under the pretense of “helping”. If you wanted to “help”, you’d type a well-constructed e-mail and send it in the direction of Anet, and keep vitriol off of the forums.

As for stuff to do, why does it always have to be “stuff to do”? Why can’t playing the game itself ever be fun in MMOs? For me, since the release, I’ve simply been exploring all the various zones in the game, completing them, levelling up and playing events along the way. I’m not even 50% complete yet, and I’m only level 48, but it’s been quite fun. Just wandering around, doing Heart Quests and participating in dynamic events left me with a feeling of Skyrim-esque exploration, and there’s nothing more satisfying than killing a massive boss with a large group of players who’ve come together out of the blue to kill it.

There’s the thing; you’re “done”. You feel as if you have completed the game already. Because of this “endgame” mentality imposed by the average MMO, you already feel as if the content provided by the game is exhausted. You’re no longer playng for fun since the elements you’re playing, which have comprised the traditional endgame, are not “fun” to you. In this case, examine other things to od in the game and find something fun, or just stop playing. But don’t attribute the lack of fun to the game itself when in reality it is due to the players refusing to let go of the most deep-seated ideologies of “traditional” MMOs.

The idea of an “endgame” itself is simply a byproduct of the “game starts at 80” mentality of previous MMOs. There is no “endgame” in the traditional sense, because “endgame” doesn’t apply in the traditional sense to Guild Wars 2.

The game is certainly not dying. Despite what the whiners and doom-prophesiers would like to tell you, the player population is still very much at a good level, I still see plenty of players participating in events and wandering around and such, and half the populaton is certainly not bots, as some would have you believe.

The game certainly can be successful without those people in the long term, as the people who are crusading against the game are generally part of a vocal minority who feel every game (and aspect of life) must be tailor-made to fit exactly their expectations. When this proves not to be the case, then the tirades and crusades begin in an attempt to convince other people to hate the game too. Keep in mind though, for every person that says how much they hate the game, there’s probably 10 others who like the game and shut up about it.

Trust me, I was concerned about this, and even made a similar thread about it a bit ago, but I find the best solution is to just ignore the idiots and continue enjoying the game if you like it.

It’s just a byproduct of the ADD culture brought upon by the advent of the digital age and the Internet. This foolishness of already classifying a game as being “dead” when in reality it is far from it is only going to increase as people get more idiotic from the overuse of the Internet.

The term “self-fufilling prophecy” very accurately describes the behaviour going on here. People are eager to toss out baseless accusations and attacks on others’ character in order to prove their point, and when people bring out legitimate statistics they just claim them fabricated and continue their inane doom-prophesying.

DR is killing this game more then the bots (for me)

Vermillion Hawk.9037

But if a game causes problems only when you foist your own style of play upon it, is it not you that’s causing the problems and not the game?

The game is a somewhat rigid structure – it doesn’t change very often, and when it does it requires a lot of effort on the part of Anet to do so. Changing one’s play style, on the other hand, requires little effort and in the end results in a lot less foolishness like this thread and the whole kerfuffle over DR, which I have yet to experience, being level 80.

By all means, continue to play whatever way you see fit – what others are saying are only suggestions to help you enjoy the game. Just don’t spew so much crap about how awful the game is when you continue your masochistic behaviour.

This thread is just yet another symptom of this ultra-reactionary community. As for qualitative evidence, I can’t produce numbers or statistics, but it seems every thread I’ve read in various locations where a prospective player asks whether or not this game is right for them instantly magnetizes all the hate-filled scum right to them. The thread inevitably ends with the prospective player not being told reasonably why the game may or may not be right for them, but coerced instead into rejecting the game. People who attempt to pierce the nonsense with reasonable discourse are drowned out or insulted to no end.

I’ve simply seen more cases of this than of rampant fanboyism in my experience, but I know that both exist, and both are harmful.

Vermillion Hawk.9037

It’s certainly not a one-sided picture, as I said, and people who act blindly out of love for something can be harmful as well, but what really annoys me about the category of people I’m referring to is that they harmfully affect the community on a larger scale. At maximum, a diehard “fanboy” will severely alienate people who have already made up their minds of having a somewhat negative impression of the game. They do ruin legitimate discussions, and that is quite annoying, but it doesn’t come close to the harm that blindly hating people cause to the game.

Day after day I see prospective new players turned away simply because they’re afraid to try it due to the amount of hate. This really leaves everyone on a negative note and I really don’t see why these people feel the need to attempt to ruin something not only for themselves, but for others who might even like the game, given the chance to try it. This just strikes me as disappointing.

It’s sad really, that people spew such hate and it prevents people who take their word for it from experiencing a game which they may actually enjoy. As it is though, I suppose the withdrawal of these players will only end up making the existing in-game community of better quality anyways.

Vermillion Hawk.9037

Now let me start this off by saying I’m a fairly longtime player of the Guild Wars series; I’ve had considerable experience with both Anet and their products – this by no means makes me a “fanboy”, as some are so eager to toss out the accusation of. There were times where I loathed GW1, and I took a 2-year hiatus from it at one point out of disgust. So let’s leave an accusations of bias out of this, just this once.

As it happens, I tend to frequent a few online forums. As usual, debate is hot about GW2, it being fresh out of the gate, so to speak. I’ve seen good points made on both sides of arguments on why Guild Wars 2 is good and why it currently fails in some aspects. I tend to find myself agreeing with points on both sides. However, pervading this discourse, on almost every site on the Internet, is a torrid spew of utter vitriol the likes of which I have never before seen targetted at one game specifically. Forums which were once relatively free of such hate speech are now filled to the brim with mobs who seem to have nothing better to do than spew nonsense at anyone who passes by, and all but crucify those who profess themselves as admirers of the game.

This isn’t coherent arguing I’m talking about. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for those who address the flaws in Guild Wars 2 – I’m not blind to the fact that they exist. This being said, the people kittengurgitate the same blind, mindless hate on forums across the Internet are contributing nothing at all, and in fact are harming the game by dissuading people who are sitting on the fence about thi game, simply through the sheer amount of vitriol.

So I ask this: why do people feel it is necessary to act so foolishly in hatred of a game which, at maximum, hs drained them of a (refundable) $60 and a few hours of their time? As I said, the amount of hatred is astounding, and I’m simply wondering where this is coming from and why.

Forcing me to change my character name from Gwen Stefani

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Vermillion Hawk.9037

Vermillion Hawk.9037

Perhaps because Gwen Stefani is a famous musical (at its loosest definition) artist, not a level 31 human Engineer, and the misuse of her image, if discovered, could have the potential of being a legal nightmare for Anet in the rare case that something like that would happen. The fact that you modeled your character’s face after hers only makes it worse.

This affair is stupid anyways, but I can see their logic behind it – they’re not oging to risk a large, highly improbable but still possible lawsuit over one guy’s bizarre fetish.

All the classes are very well balanced right about now. Sure, there needs to be some tweaks done, but it’s not like any specific profession is the “flavour of the month” or anything.

People just need to start using their heads in combat instead of sitting there and attacking mesmer illusions, or letting warriors wail on them at point blank range. Unlike in most MMOs positioning is important, so use those crippling/immobilizing skills while backpedaling and evading. Instead of immediately crying for a nerf or a buff, examine what you’re doing wrong and what you can do to improve.

The guild currently consists only of yours truly, and I’m looking for some trustworthy and good people to join my guild. I am aiming to build a guild of friendly and cooperative members, with no real focus other than assisting each other if necessary, grouping together to do PvP or PvE, and generally enjoying the game.

Officer positions are available for those who want them, I’m eager to fill up my high-ranking slots with trustworthy and intelligent people who will help the guild’s growth. If you want to join respond in this thread or send me a PM, but keep in mind that the guild is based currently in the Isle of Janthir.

As of now I don’t near have enough skill points to unlock a new Elite Skill, and yes, while I’m familiar with combo fields it’s difficult to set them up properly, as the fight takes place in a very confined space with a boss who uses knockdowns very commonly and frenzies all the time, so usually I get interrupted before I can pull a good one off, and I don’t have a lot of room to dodge either. Vermillion Hawk.9037

So I’m currently a level 31 Sylvari Mesmer, and right now I’m trying (and failing horribly) to do the personal storyline mission “Dead of Winter”. I use a Greatsword with Dual Swords on backup. The mission progresses smoothly until I reach a stumbling block of epic proportions – the battle around halfway through the crypt where I’m confronted with a Veteran Risen Abomination and around 6 or so Risen Thralls. I cannot for the life of me win here. I’ve been trying my hardest, but it either boils down to too much focus on the boss getting my party killed by the Thralls, or too much focus on the Thralls gets my party killed by the Abomination.

As I said before, I’m using a Greatsword/Dual Swords, and none of my equipment is below level 30. My healing/utility skills are Ether Feast, Blink, Mantra of Pain, and Portal Entre. My Elite Skill is Moa Transformation (turns the opponent into a Moa for 10 seconds). Someone please give me some advice, this mission is crushing my soul.
