…Your comment at the end only encouraged it too so in my opinion based off of what you’ve shown you deserve no sympathy….

I mean seriously? What was he supposed to do? Bow down and apologise even if he might not have been the problem at all?

He died and if someone said he’s terrible he probably kittened up pretty badly. People don’t normally react that way for no apparent reason and someone posting a thread like this isn’t likely to admit they play poorly because they usually try to demonize the people they’re posting about as much as they can.

He probably should have apologized for making a mistake. Either that or just not have responded. I don’t see what the problem is with apologizing after messing up… ?

If I do something stupid I normally type something like “kitten … misclicked sry :S” or whatever. Sometimes it’s self explanatory and not needed, but everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

When you pug, it’s to be expected that often times people are going to be less forgiving because nobody knows each other. You’re taking a risk.

They were obviously jerks for kicking him, but I don’t sympathize with the OP because he could’ve handled it better. I’ve seen threads like this tons and tons of times and every single time the person in the OP is always trying to play it off like they got kicked for no reason at all.

Why are you assuming that when one PUG tells the other PUG he/she is terrible, that that’s a correct assessment? Maybe someone else screwed up and he died? Maybe they all screwed up and died?
You’re acting as if you had some kind of metric on these threads and occurrences. If you do, please share. If you don’t, stay neutral. No one is asking you to sympathize, I am asking you to not take sides unless you have a valid reason to. Then again, who am I to ask anything.

And to the whole debate about how his reply could only lead to negative outcomes: So what? I believe that no one should have to take bullkitten and if his kind of reply was enough for them to kick him at the last boss then they have a problem with their attitude and his snarky answer was fairly irrelevant.

Some pretty horrifying answers in here. The OP posts his side and leaves out the rest of the run and some of you immediately side with the other guys. The sane thing would be to remain neutral until you get more information.
If someone is terribly bad it will be apparent before getting Mai Trin to 20% and then there is no reason to kick that person. Furthermore, laying the blame almost entirely on the OP for simply stating that he took screenshots and then following that with a sarcastic “go ahead” is a bit close to victim blaming. He did not even reply with insults, which would have been understandable (and I would have done it) but stayed rather cool in the face of such adversity.

How he can be the target of so much hostility in this thread baffles me.

Please report them and let’s hope that they get what they deserve.

[Sugg] How to fix the Zerker Zerger problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

To be fair not everyone stays on top of every forum post about every topic, and this is a forum, people can talk about anything game related. Its normal for many people to have the same ideas, suggestions, frustrations etc.

Those are valid points and as a regular reader I may overreact to these threads but “Zerk Meta” is really a very prominent topic. Just now there’s a 700+ reddit post and at least 2 or 3 active threads on the forums. The lack of a search feature does promote these redundant discussions but I still feel like a quick google search might eliminate some of these threads.
People do bring up points that appear valid to them and sometimes they even do a bit of research or brainstorming how one could change the current meta. Why not invest some of that time into looking for similar threads, since it might save you the remainder of the time that would have gone into a new thread?

Fractal Chests + Magic Find?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

Sorry for the bump, but it just became relevant.
It seems to be fixed, so… was i right?
If so, is it for the better or the worse? Does it mean MF doesnt affect it anymore, so the loot from map chests got worse, or that fractal reward levels got “fixed”?

Can’t really comment on the first part and how it relates to MF in Fractal chest loot tables but I am fairly sure ANET did not alter the Fractal loot tables themselves. The last time they fixed (= lackluster change with no apparent reason) Fractal loot was because the playerbase had found out that 41-50 was less rewarding in terms of skins than 31-40 which was an obvious bug. Since they probably don’t consider the skin drop rates bugged in any way right now, there’s nothing that would require fixing.

Stop Unisexing Charr and Asura

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

Unisex armor isn’t designed for males specifically. It’s designed for flat-chested creatures.

At the end of the day it’s just ANETs decision as to how unisex is defined in Tyria but as an honest question to you: Why should unisex mean flat chested? What if female would be the default and unisex armors should be designed for creatures with female characteristics?

I don’t actually care about this, since I consider this whole argument pointless. Steering such a conversation into a male/female direction quite often leads to anger (I’m surprised this thread is still so civil!). The reason why I do not agree with the male dominance in Asura and Charr clothing is simply that it takes away armor variety for these races. I do not care the slightest how you label unisex, or which types of armor you deem adequate or how you call these… I just think choosing the male armor over the female one in the majority of cases means less variety. As an exmaple: An Asura should be able to look cute. Cute is neither male nor female, it’s just cute. You can do that with the current armor sets, but why not give us a bit more options?

This is just my perspective but at least the dungeon selling in Arah appears to be very active. I guess that duoing is popular or doing any dungeon with a couple of guild mates and selling the remaining spots.
Solo selling I’d only do if you have fillers, especially with the longer dungeon such as Arah. But I definitely wouldn’t call it dead.

Fractals and the Weapon Skins Problem

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Veydar.5017

I’d rather read more about maths than suggestions. Why? We’ve had threads like this over a million times. All of the things in here have been suggested before and not just once. You can digress, get back to the topic, start a petition or a kickstarter for more Fractal Boxes below level 51 but ultimately, with ANETs communication policy, it’s most likely that it will either never be implemented or suddenly appear in the patch notes with no prior information.
It doesn’t hurt to constantly remind the developers of these things but at this point our complaints must have been heard. Maybe you should post this in the General Discussion since this is what the developers are apparently supposed to look at but even there, if I recall correctly, we’ve seen threads like this at least every month, if not biweekly.
Fractal Skins is probably THE single most important topic to myself and my most fervent complaint but based on past experience, the dungeon communitys efforts at getting ANET to listen to us have been pretty futile.

Seriously? Why would I go through the trouble to do that? To prove to you that… what? I am not lying or something?
I run that setting. I got my PC from Ibuypower. I have RL gamer friends who were so enthused about my PC that they went and got themselves PCs from Ibuypower. That is it. All the reference and praise I will give and have no interest in the Ibuypower sales.
Your opinion about this and your requests? I couldn’t care less.

I used the word “please”. There’s no need to be offensive. I am honestly interested whether I can improve the performance of my setup in any way. Since this is the internet, I am naturally doubtful when someones states something that is hard to believe. Forgive me for that. You didn’t mention any FPS numbers so the performance you have in mind when saying “no lags no fps problems” might actually be pretty close to what I am having. Can you pretty please (no offense, really) tell me the approximate FPS in the above mentioned setting? (just asking, don’t take this the wrong way)

Here’s some more info about my system so you can relate to my frustration:
- i5 4670k @4.2Ghz
- 2x GTX 770
- 8GB 1866 Ram
- SSD just for GW2
- Asrock extreme4
- BeQuiet PSU with “Enough power for all my components + extra”

Culling off (=maximum characters) with everything at the absolute max @ 1920×1080 @ Teq = ~10-15 FPS

And yet they still use the same components that are available to everyone else. No magic involved. Can you please post a screenshot of the following:
- Full map Tequatl Burn Phase, maximum zoomed out
- Settings window with graphics settings + FPS visible
- Facing Teq/Zerg

That is all true but I would wager that the average tequatl map will represent the classes according to their popularity in the part of the population that frequents world bosses. In other words, do teq often enough and these variables should stop being responsible for huge differences. We’re talking about an objectively worse system achieving 1.5-2x my own framerates.
I am going to need verification from the poster because without that I am going to assume it’s just not true. That’s not meant in an offensive way. It’s just hard to believe how this would be possible. I don’t know that much about hardware and software but its still maths and logic even though it feels like magic often enough.

Not sure why people have such different experiences with GW2 performance. I have crappy old i5 3330, GTX 760, and 12gb of 1333 RAM and with 64 bit Win 7 and GW2 on a 4×240gb SSD RAID. I can do map capped guild Teqs in melee stack in 1080p high detail and might drop to 45 fps at the bottom end, I cap to 60. Excluding the SSD array it’s only like a $700 computer.

That sounds outstanding. Does anyone have an explanation for that? I don’t know any person who maintains more than 30 FPS during map capped Teq burn phase with everything at max details.

Then again, certain parts of that 4man relay are more important than others. A GPU that will not bottleneck GW2 is pretty affordable, a CPU that can do the same for Tequatl at maximum character limit will set you back the equivalent of a midrange gaming PC. I am running the game with an OCed i5 4670k (@4.3Ghz), 2x GTX 770, SSD, 1866 RAM, asrock extreme Mobo and in the above mentioned scenario the game is an unplayable slideshow.

We could also reward you with something just for logging in …. but wait that’s already the case! Then again you don’t get laurels for it … but wait you do! So there’s something optional you can’t complete because either your hardware/connection isn’t up to the task or you are not experienced enough in terms of jumping puzzles/hitting buttons at certain time frames. The first one is up to you to fix, the second one requires effort and perseverance. ANET is already giving the playerbase free rewards just for clicking “Login” so I fail to see how optional tasks should be equally free of any challenge whatsoever.

They gave me a reason and an incentive to try other classes in unranked arena. I did and I enjoyed it. They are faster than the old dailies so if I’m in a hurry and feel like I want the 10 AP it takes less time. The small rewards are actually a nice bonus! I often do the WvW dailies to get some more Badges (I usually don’t do WvW). After a while I even got ascended meta equipment for my Ele so I can enjoy occassional roaming. So the dailies so far worked out pretty well for me. They made me discover new things to do and they’re generally quicker than the old ones. Thumbs up from MY PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW!

WvW and Map Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

I had the same problem. Then I switched to Seafarers Rest. And to the people complaining about PvE being part of completion: you can do that on your own. You can’t take a tower on your own, at least it’s extremely unlikely. I tried. I even tagged up, asked in map chat or whispered commanders directly. I offered gold rewards, I brought my own siege, I asked friends.
At the end of the day it’s best to wait until you get a good color. That’s why WvW map completion should always be your number one priority. Everyday check if your missing objectives might have flipped.

So basically you’d love it if the dailies were just:
- Press F 5 times.
- Hit 5 players with a snowball
- AFK an activity
- Talk to an NPC
- Click 4 items

Now this is NOT meant to be offensive, really! It’s just that a lot of the players appear to object to even the slightest challenge. This is not an exaggeration. The JP might be considered “challenging” simply because every JP is a major obstacle for the majority of the players but the Bell Choir game is not.
Do you really want those achievements to be handed out for what amounts to nothing?
It has a small learning curve until you’ve figured out the timing. But the easy songs are just that – easy. I once read somewhere that the developers hold some responsibilty when it comes to educating the community. By educating I mean teaching them about game mechanics and helping them push the envelope a bit. If you join Bell Choir, mindlessly mash buttons and fail don’t throw your hands up in the air and quit. Give it 20 minutes until you’ve figured out how it works and then you will see that you can handle this minigame, even if it’s just the easy songs. Some people might be limited by their connection or FPS but that’s their own cross to bear.

I used to be a raging elitist and was part of two hardcore PvE dungeon running guilds but this thread goes to far, even for my tastes :P

It is open world play guys, relax a little. If someone wants to run around with a staff because it’s his/her favorite weapon for whatever reason, that’s okay. There’s a thread in this forum with a discussion about “the meta” that’s just going round and round in circles but one major conclusion is always: If you don’t like the “zerk meta”, don’t join their groups. If you want everyone to play like in a World Record, don’t join “All Welcome”.
In open world PvE people don’t have that option, so berating them for playing how they want in an environment where they can’t easily choose their map/instance/surroundings is not only pointless but, I dare say, rude! It’s a game, let people have fun.

Veydar.5017

I skipped parts of the thread, I apologize if my answer is just a reiteration.
I get some of your complaints. I am by no means someone with deep insight into game development but GW2 is focused around Gold. Most important items or skins can be bought with Gold and one reason for this game design is probably the Gem Store. If Gems (=real money) would only buy you Gem Store items, with no means of converting real money into ingame currency, the incentive to buy said Gems would be a lot smaller.
So in my opinion (!) this leads to the reward design that you criticized. Instead of handing out “epic loot” based primarily on your accomplishments, they’re often purchasable. In other instances I blame it on the lackluster implementation of RNG. It is true that killing mobs is almost never a good way to get best in slot equipment. In Fractals you’re either hoping for chest RNG or skin RNG. I dungeons you farm the tokens. World bosses just give you guaranteed rares + lots of RNG.

I totally get your frustration in that regard. Maybe you’re coming from the same (MMO)RPG background as I do and it might feel strange how this game hands out rewards. At the end of the day, a lot of the other posters are right when they say: Learn to live with it or move on to another game. The changes you might be hoping for are so fundamental that I can’t see any way in which they might ever be implemented.

Okay, so this entire thread is more about semantics than anything else? I mean we just had a thread with what feels like 1000 pages revolving around “the meta”, it feels a bit pointless to criticize the choice of wording after 2 years of Guild Wars 2.
The issues within the community will always be there, whether you call it “meta” or “zerk way” or “fluffy puffs” isn’t really relevant. I am sure 95% of the people only have a very vague idea of the word “meta” and only care about what it actually means in the GW2 lingo.

Imagine if ANET listened to every complaint like that. Please do not blame ANET when it is in fact your hardware, your connection, or simply your inexperience in a certain part of the game.
I get that it can be frustrating to partake in an activity and be limited by your hardware. But then again, the game runs good enough on most system as to achieve 20-30 fps. Especially in a non-zerg activty such as Bell Choir which is instanced. I am fairly certain that if we were to do a survey, we’d find out that most people, after an initial learning phase of 5 minutes, are able to hit a lot of notes correctly. Just because it can’t be done while being AFK and watching a very engaging movie on your 2nd monitor, does not mean it has to go or should not be required. There is so much stuff being handed to us on a silver platter already.

Threads like this one really amaze and annoy me. They pop up every week, rapidly explode, with a big portion of people talking past each other, throwing around the same old arguments again and again, and yet I still don“t understand why exactly some people think the established meta is supposedly bad for the game.

So, if any of those people could concisely and in a structured manner explain to me why purely offensive, high-risk/high-reward stat combinations being the core of optimized builds is wrong, it would be greatly appreciated.

Well I suppose I’m different than most of the Anti-Meta people in this thread. I’m not here for its effect on community and/or the LFG tool.

No I’m actually against the Zerk Meta because of what you have in bold. Its untrue and I think you and I know it. It is low-risk/high-reward and not the other way around. That is my gripe with it.

I would say it is still riskier than a tanky setup. As numerous videos have shown, tanky setups take longer and therefore allow for more mistakes, but they also give you the ability to cover up these mistakes. I will take the liberty of interpreting your statement a little, please feel free to correct me though: If you mean that dungeons are too easy and that the risk that comes with a full berserker party is too small, then I agree.

In comparison to other builds, it is still the riskiest approach though.

I don’t see how this is relevant to this discussion. Bad or inexperienced players will be just that, regardless of their choice of gear/traits and skills. Some setups will cover up their mistakes, while strictly following the “Zerk Meta” might make these players a liability. It’s still a problem of individual player skill and the best advice for these people would be to either make an informed decision about which gear is best for them or to actively work on improving themselves. Some of the more thorough class guides actually mention the squishiness and high risk/high reward nature of “Zerk Meta” builds.

So even though some of your points are valid, I still do not see how exactly this is important as to the matter at hand.

I don’t care what people wear and what trait set they have.
But I cba to go with zerkers/meta again to either res them all downed, solo half of the instance or see how they rage and leave because they die and blame others for it.

You’re using bad players as an example for why their build/setup is bad. Experienced dungeon guilds will complete all these encounters without anyone requiring ressurection. They will kill most bosses on the spawn and use active defenses to stay alive.

Most of the folks who are saying that, in 2 years of playing with PUGs, they have never encountered such violent behaviour, probably have lower standards or luck. I can completely relate to your experiences, which is why I stopped using PUGs altogether. All my friends share this sentiment, which is convenient, since most of us will wait for each other to start the daily dungeon tour.
Bottom line: There’s nothing you can do about it. If you insist on using PUGs or have to, lower your standards.

The problem: developers spend too much time scrolling through forums and they’re never sure where to put the information.

The solution: merge the forums – with no functioning search box – so developers can now scroll through a mess of threads that are updating and moving by the minute.

Seems legit.

On an unrelated note, keep the dungeon forum.

Low FPS in Hero Window/Equipment Preview

Drivers are up to date.

The problem is that FXAA is completely horrible. I will use forced MSAA anyhow I just want to see if anyone has an explanation for this. I also have the problem with pixel offset creating a flickering line around the game but again it’s not so bad that I would use the native aa instead.

Low FPS in Hero Window/Equipment Preview

This topic might be too specific to receive any answers but what the hell, I’m going to post it anyways.

My hardware:

  • i5 4670k @4.2Ghz
  • 2x GTX 770 no OC
  • SSD
  • Asrock extreme4 z87 motherboard
  • 8GB of 1866 RAM (Running @1866, XMP enabled :P)

I recently started playing around with anti aliasing modes forced through the Nvidia control panel/Inspector. Whenever I activate any anti aliasing mode other than the standard FXAA I get extreme stuttering in the equipment preview window or the hero window (which shows the equipment preview as well). The game runs fine with 16xQ CSAA + 4x SGSSAA and I can also play it with DSR @ 4K resolution (no AA then) without any issues as long as I stay away from zergs.
As soon as I activate even 2x MSAA though and open any equipment preview window, it gets laggy.

Any idea why?

Also, it seems that the AA isn’t working as it should in the preview window.
