I think he was the one who had the disconnect so he certainly won’t report anyone else for being afk.
I am one of those players who usually go afk if a 4v5 game is going as expected – utter and complete defeat. I’d rather get it over with real fast and continue on to the next game than stay and fight a battle I can’t win.

EQUILIBRATE TEAM

Really TPvP isnt equilibrate at all! Correct me if I’m wrong but, I don’t think I’m the only one to think it isnt equilibrated. Getting stuck with the same dude for over 3-4 games on a row and just keep loosing because of that guy, this really kitten me off.

So Anet, do something about it so we don’t get stuck with loosing teams for 4 match on a row.

Or with a winning team 4 times in a row. I don’t think this should be a priority right now. We all know that their pvp team seems to be understaffed and I’d rather have other game modes, a slightly better balance or basic features such as a searchable and easy-to-navigate leadersboards.

This game is too hard

From an individual standpoint it’s kinda easy. You cap points and try to kill. Your build will always do dmg and you’ll always be able to heal yourself.
From a team standpoint there’s more depth, agreed. But dumbing the entire game down to team deathmatch wouldn’t work. Most games have extra objectives.

In gw1 both the individual and team skill floor were pretty high. Though that game still managed to get a pretty decent sized community.

I think the concept is easy. Cap & kill & defend. However, it’s the small things people never learn that make it more complex such as identifying a build immediately. Knowing when to cc someone (watch for stability boon), knowing when to disengage, becoming more proactively aware of possible condition aoes coming your way, etc. Players don’t learn this kind of stuff until they get into the big leagues and that’s only if they haven’t been discouraged before that point. I think having some sort of personal simulation with decent AIs would help new players learn things much faster.

Really, that’s what’s bothering you? People not learning the smallest thing as in extremely advanced stuff such as immediately identifying a build? I’d be a hell of a lot happier if people wouldn’t chase after opponents as a zerg while neglecting every single kitten point. Or if they wouldn’t all try to finish a downed player while the rest of the enemy team is still alive and kicking, which renders them completely useless for a few seconds and they usually end up dying giving the opponent an opportunity to rally.
There’s a buff at 8:30 in some kind of temple?! WTH?! Yes, there is! And you can’t claim it telepathically, big news!
So many players fail to understand – as the OP mentioned – the most basic aspects of this game, that I don’t give a kitten about details such as when to CC or whatnot. Basic teamplay and button mashing would already benefit teams a lot.

Every game has to offer something to the “chosen few” you addressed. If the entry requirements for elite status are too low you’re going to alienate an important but small part of the player base. Can’t you just accept that Liadri takes more than just mindnumbingly easy grinding and button mashing? Yes she is a lot harder than all the other bosses but that’s what makes this fight so interesting. Yes, there’s a lot of factors that add to the difficulty which shouldn’t exist (camera, lag…) but there the same for most people.
And that there’s a little luck involved regarding the orbs shouldn’t keep you from winning if you’re really up to the task. It might screw you over once or twice but that’s about it.
But whatever ANET does DO NOT NERF LIADRI

I cannot believe that I can actually use this quote in context but:

The Cake is a lie.

It’s OT but this has to be one of the best replies/quotes in the history of the internet. Just…. wow : )

As for the topic being discussed: I am one of those who expected GW2 to be a serious MMORPG instead of an arcade style MMO. I am not being judgemental, since a lot of the players seem to love that new direction. It’s just that after playing GW1 for all those years I thought they’d build upon the foundation that served them so well. I can understand that their philosophy might have changed and there might be some financial considerations in play as well, but GW2 and GW1 are two very different games.
It’s an entirely subjective opinion that’s aggravated by my fondness of GW1 so I am not saying that GW2 is in any way bad ‘per se’. If the majority of the playerbase wants easy-to-digest content with lots of minigames then I should just go somewhere else I guess, which is absolutely fine.

The other funny thing about this thread is that it shows how the population of players is shifting to a younger age. When this game was launched EVERYONE loved JPs. They were just the coolest thing. I bet that’s because it was mostly older gamers (25 to 35) who had the disposable income to play on headstart. Older gamers grew up with platformers. It’s too much!

Now we have these young whippersnappers whose sad history of gaming includes EA sports titles and Call of Duty. You kids just don’t understand!

I’m not a kid. I grew up with platformers, i was obsessed with the spinning tower in halloween until I beat it. Over five times. But when i saw super Adventure Box, even if I appreciated the experiment, it just wasn’t a character-basted combat game I wanted to play. And now this “racing” taking an entire update.

I’ll keep saying until people stop conveniently ignoring it: I don’t mind new gameplay elements, I don’t mind platforming elements inserted into the main gameplay. As long as I’m exploring the open world, surfing Dynamic Events, WvWing or PvPing, i’m game.

Just don’t keep making mock-up platformers and racers and Hodor knows what else.
Don’t take my skills and equipment and build and class away. Otherwise, what’s the point in having them?

I know the OP wasn’t especially mature or constructive, but the guy, probably a kid, has a point.

You’re part of the minority of players who think that way. There’s another big thread in this forum about the pros and cons of temporary content. Everyone seems to agree that the content we’re getting is great, the question is just should it be permanent or not.
GW2 is just not an RPG anymore and no one seems to have a problem with that.

“Oh no! I’m in a game and I don’t know what to do!” In this day and age the rescources to overcome this scenario are almost infinite. But let me throw you the most relevenat:

ASK SOMEBODY. It’s an MMO For crying out loud.

hehe this made me laugh but I dont think thats what Vayne really meant. I think he meant there is just no answer to the question.

Lets assume all content was released permanently. Now imagine a player who bought the game finished the whole storyline in a week and quit. He just logged on again today and asked you what he should do next?

Which one is the right answer?

Halloween, wintersday, lost short, flame and frost, The secret of southsun, dragon bash, sky pirates, the bazaar?

And thats at a high level
Some will suggest specifics they like..

Ohh man you really need to go try dragon ball its a blast! forget about dragon ball guild missions are amazing!

guild missions take too much effort, now skyhammer thats an awesome pvp map you really need to experience

Nahh forget about PvP not so secret now thats a challenge.

etc… etc..

Poor guy his head would explode before he decides what to do!

Thank you. This is the problem almost every person already finds coming back and not knowing what to do. We see some people ask on the forum and get half a dozen contradictory suggestions.

Hell, I play the game every day and sometimes I’m overwhelmed by all the content. I think with content every two weeks, this game would become impossibly clogged. The player base would spread out further and further and the people who claim that we’re losing players would have more to crow about.

This way, everyone that cares about the Living Story is more or less on the same page.

Without the tragedy of the Living “Story” (oh gods, what a misnomer), they wouldn’t have to release half made content every two weeks. They could actually take their time and put out something worth playing.

Oh look killcannon doesn’t like the living story, it must be not worth playing. I guess all the people who are enjoying it are mistaken.

Oh look, Vayne has nothing constructive to say…again.

Hate to tell you, many, many, many, many, many players don’t like it. And more every day.

The one and only thing it’s good for is to make people log in due to a content treadmill.

Many many players DO like it. What’s your point? I particularly like the current content. So do lots of people I’ve talked to.

More every day? Proof? Your experience? Maybe you only hear what you want to hear.

Of course many players like it. It’s easy, it’s accessible, it doesn’t have a story that you have to ignore in order to get those short bursts of satisfaction stemming from menial achievements.
Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be a frustrated swear words MMO RPG and not an arcade game. I used to love Wintersday and the likes since it provided everyone with a happy and humorous distraction. But we’re about to reach a point where the RPG elements of the game are becoming the sidekick.
Furthermore, the argument that new players would be overwhelmed by the content is just ridiculous. The consequence would be to develop a game and abandon it right away. If you start playing GW1 now there’s Factions, Nightfall and EoTN to complete. Any game that has any addons will take more time to complete for new players. At least these players have the chance to do it!
How frustrating would it be to join a game that’s been around for a few years only to realize that huge chunks of the story, of the entire game, were temporary content. You’d feel left out and isolated without the ability to get ANY of these titles, rewards or experiences.
So I’d say: Release new stuff every 4-6 months, making it 70% RPG 30% jumping/races whatever and leave most of these 70% untouched. The rest you can remove since this is, after all, an RPG.

Mini games are okay, if the rest of the game is also getting new permanent content. The thing is , it isn`t. What bothers me also is all the temporary content, and the living story.
For many players, the most important content is MMORPG based gaming content, not mini-games. Mini games are fluff, distractions, not THE GAME. If I wanted to play mini-games, I would play on social media.

So, if we are going to get more of this type of content in future , we MUST also get permanent MMORPG game content as well. If we don’t, we will end up with a chat room full of mini games.

I love the Guild Wars 2 world, it just seems to be going in the wrong direction.

I am beginning to realize that this is not what most players want. GW2 isn’t really seen as an MMO RPG anymore but just as an MMO game. Be it fluffy Kirby jumping, arcade games, serious esports or storytelling there’s no real priority. It’s pretty much a big bowl of activites and everyone can reach in and grab some stuff. I could imagine that a lot of players like that, the RPGers probably not so much.

I’m sure he didn’t mean that they’re literally all working on mini-game content. But since we all know that development takes time, why not devote more resources to core game development? Why go for a crazy two week release schedule, which takes even more manpower to realize, when the core game – an RPG – is lacking so far behind.
No one is screaming gimme gimme, we’re rather asking for less but well thought out content. I can’t recall anyone asking for the current release schedule. I love jumping puzzles and some mini games are entertaining but please make Guild Wars the highest priority. We’re just not seeing enough quality content in that department.

Really now, its a fact? Did you look at the skill tweaks (even if its just text tweaks, its still non-minigame work). How about the polish? How about the whole rest of the kitten zone introduced for this living story update? You know for a fact that all 4 living world teams, AND the other ‘larger content development’ teams devoted all their time to just this minigame, therefore taking away from their work on other content?

Polish and skill tweaks are exactly that. Polish and tweaks. You can’t expect us to be content with such “advancements” while major issues remain unresolved for months. The zone that was introduced is visually appealing but so far it’s pretty much a wrapper for a jp and a mini game. What the rest of the devs are up to I don’t know but judging from the SOTG it hasn’t been much.

You know GW1 Armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Veydar.5017

The difference between the GW1 and GW2 armours, in my eyes, is that the GW1 skins were all somewhat realistic. Prestige armors were distinctive enough that people could recognise them, without them being over the top with particle effects like we see in GW2.

I’d be happy if they introduced some of the older skins as options (preferably through crafting, but I would imagine they would just end up being gemstore purchases). Monk Elite Kurzick and Luxon specifically. They were my favourites.

This.

The first thing I noticed when playing the GW2 beta was the comic style of the graphics. It reminded me so much of the warcraft universe blizzard created. Everything looks so hilariously exceptional that it all ends up being mediocre. A big flashy costume party devoid of the subtle elegance the first iteration of the game possessed.

That’s pretty much what I’ve been saying in other threads as well. The new content feels a little too shallow. Sure, some of those mini games are great fun, but GW2 is still supposed to be an MMORPG and not an arcade game, at least that was my expectation. Longer and more immersive quest lines would be much appreciated. These could be designed to be more challenging than former Living Story missions (not talking about dungeons here!).

Unfortunately they have no reason to stop with temporary content. It’s a minimum work maximum profit model fueled by people buying into rng. It keeps the gears turning and the cash flowing. If you really want to see a change then simply dont buy gems.

Minimum work? Really? I’d love to see your explanation as to how adding entire dungeons, PvP game modes, JPs, voice acted cutscenes, new items, and yes even RNG items and then taking the time to remove them 2 weeks later is minimum work. If anything it requires significantly more work to add then remove content than it requires to add and leave content.

I mean really, please enlighten me as to how releasing the Aetherblade Retreat or the Molten Facility (which everyone agrees were legit dungeons) or Mad King’s Clocktower and other JPs and then removing them is part of a minimum work maximum profit model?

Do you people even think before you speak anymore or do you really just dislike the game so much you will just say anything to make the point that GW2 sucks and the devs are wasting their time releasing new content?

I agree that certain aspects of the game could use improvements, but to say that bi-weekly content releases are minimum work is just plain ignorant and makes me sadfaced

I’d reckon he could have been talking about the quality of the content. It seems easier to implement menial tasks every two weeks than thinking of a truly immersive and challenging addition to the living story. There is carefully crafted content, no arguing there, but also a lot of repetitive fillers.

Temporary content does not hurt the game. If you’re the kind of person that logs in after awhile, sees you missed 2-3 living story events and then ragequits because you aren’t able to do them and thus can’t “catch up”, then you clearly do not understand the concept of GW2. Who cares that you missed it! Focus on playing the game for enjoyment, if you are only concerned with competing for achievement points (which makes no sense if you play irregularly enough to miss entire Living Story events) then you are treating the game like work instead of a game.

I mean seriously, why get mad that you can’t get the same achievements as someone who plays regularly. You chose not to play regularly, there are consequences to that, such as missing out on content. No sense in acting like a brat about it. <— not saying OP is acting like a brat, just people who complain they can’t make up the stuff that they chose to miss by not playing…

That’s a valid point. From my very personal view though these updates seem to be all about achievement points and nothing else. Some of the content (Dungeons, PvP Maps) seem to be very enjoyable and possess some degree of difficulty. Lighting effigies on the other hand is – for me – just a mindless task on a To Do list.
You can argue that it’s a viable way to make players spend time in different zones. If someone does what someone a few posts above said, that is, explore those zones, finishing DEs, while lighting the occasional effigy, it’s a job well done. To me it seems like a fairly “cheap” (harsh word, sorry) way of achieving this.
I would be totally okay with such content if there were some more meaningful content to balance it out. Scavenger hunts, difficult story missions and such. I just don’t want to feel like I can “complete” the living story while reading a newspaper because neither the story nor the actual tasks at hand are very compelling. Of course no one is forcing me to feel like that. Some players simply enjoy themselves while doing the LS, which effectively spices things up a little but for some reason I can’t. Maybe I am solely to blame, maybe the temporary content is indeed a little shallow, it’s just my personal experience.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

I’m a little perplexed. My understanding of the living world was they were introducing new content as a means of showing how the world was changing and evolving. But by removing that content after a short period of time aren’t we just reverting to what the game was before and showing how it is not changing or evolving?

This is something I don’t understand either. If most of the updates don’t leave any palpable trace or change then the game will simply stay the same.
What made me stop playing GW2 is that these updates feel shallow and irrelevant. It’s a new To Do list every two weeks with repetitive content, that’s it. I’d rather have them release a new update with meaningful content every 4 months. They could advance the overall storyline of Guild Wars or at least touch on some of the deeper stories of Guild Wars 1 . These updates would consist of both temporary and persistent content and give new players the feeling of an evolving world. Quality over quantity would be the take home message here.
I do realize that that’s just my opinion. It’s been mentioned in this post that some are just looking for small mindless tasks they can complete on the fly without worrying too much about lore, figuring out scavenger hunts or completing a difficult dungeon. But ANET can’t cater to everyone. It’s either maintaining the quality game it was supposed to be or cater to the masses with lightweight content on a 14 day schedule …. I guess.

Match Making ANET - Please Fix

The bigger problem for me is that winning games gives me better opponents which instantly halts my progress. The more I’m fighting the system the harder it hits me. This kind of dynamic system only works if the matchmaking can handle it.
If winning two games matches me against top 100 players but MM decides to bless us with a level 1 warrior everyone just leaves at 100 – 0. Then it’s back to where I came from. There’s just no real progression for me. If I were guaranteed to get enemies and allies of roughly my skill level this system could work pretty well. It would come down to small changes in the individual performance. A rookie is just a big fist up your …. that kills the match.

Award points for winning games and nothing else. People are selfish, I am no exception. As long as certain behaviour (guarding) yields inferior gains (glory), people will always stick with what gives them the maximum return. At the same time, implement a leaderboard (idk what that thing we have right now is supposed to be). Everyone should have a rank not just the top 1000. New players must feel demotivated once they see they’re rank is simply xx% and wins/losses don’t have any consistent effect on that rating. Sometimes you win two games and lose rank, that just “feels” wrong even though there might be some logic to it.

Why ANET implemented these 8v8, I don’t know. Then again, I don’t understand most of their decisions. Make 8v8 – and whatever people feel like – available in custom arenas that don’t give any rewards at all. Everything else should be tournament style only, but with the option to join ranked and unranked games.
Force them to play GW2 and not CS:GO@GW2.

How are tPvP matches paired?

in PvP

Posted by: Veydar.5017

Veydar.5017

Rank does not govern matchups, at least it’s not the primary factor. Every player has an internal rating that is based upon the matches you have played so far. Winning against unexperienced players will yield only small gains, while beating a pro team would make your rating skyrocket (at least a little).
If you and your guild mates form a premade (as opposed to the usual PUGs) and you win a few games, your internal rating (not the rank) will be high enough to be pitted against more experienced players.
In my experience a higher rank means more hours logged and that translates roughly into better odds at winning. But it’s really not a very good predictor of your skill.
Today I lost three games in a row and my leaderboard score went up 1%. On other occassions I won several games and my rank did not change at all, it’s very confusing and I hope I’m not spreading false information.

TL;DR: Matchmaking is ….. (lots of profanities) and rank is not that important.

Hi,

I’ve been playing a Guardian since release and I’ve had a lot of fun with it in PvE. In PvP I’ve tried lots of different builds but finally settled on a bunker build. What’s very frustrating for me is that playing a bunker means relying heavily on the skill of my teammates. I am not dealing significant damage so taking a node from someone else is achieved by using my area access denial skills. That’s time consuming and often it doesn’t work at all.
Watching my r40+ companions fight meaningless skirmishes in the middle of nowhere with no real means to decisively influence the match has brought me ever closer to the brink of insanity.
Other builds feel somewhat subpar given that the Guardian seems to be a generalist.

With this thread I am not directly asking for the most overpowered class in any situation. Rather, I’d like to know which class works best on their own in average chaotic PUGs. An independent class if you will. Or would you say that a bad team (not necessarily the players but just as well the build combination) is a bad team and I can’t do anything about it in GW2?

Playing with PUGs just seems so random to me. Teams with five players plus the match making system makes me feel like I did not progress the slightest bit since finishing my first PVP match.

What kept me going was the hope that things would eventually get better. The pace on PVP updates is glacial and after getting teamed up with a level 1-5 player in an all 20+ game way too often I’m just gonna quit.
I am used to playing 1v1 in WC3 and SC2 where I am to blame for losing a game. In GW2 it is too often because of someone being afk during the first 30sec or what I mentioned above. I don’t give a kitten about premades if the matchmaking would at least be decent. Let me wait for 10 minutes if I am guaranteed to play with players of equal experience. They might be noobs and there’s the occasional low level expert but in general these things ruin it for me.

Login Error: Portal returned error: invalid_request — l_c.rb 94 (fangamer:-1). This is only the second part of the error message I just got when trying to login here on the forums. The first part basically consisted of the same paramters the launcher is giving me. 42:0:9001:4103 or 4105. Login from Germany on Underworld (EU).

As stated earlier, we’re going to have to wait and see how the drop rate of rares will be affected/increased by this update. Right now I just feel mocked and offended. Guaranteed to drop a blue? Come on, greens are worthless garbage and rares are just good for ectos or 30ish silver. A rare should be guaranteed with a slightly better chance of getting an exotic. Champions are supposed to be (among?) the toughest enemies you will encounter in open world PvE, that has to be worth more than 30 [swear words] silver?

In case it turns out that we’re gonna see a whole lot more exotics I take back everything I just said.

How to fix & improve grind? Comments? [merged]

The following is just my opinion and reflects the way I would like GW2 to evolve.

Make exotics incredibly easy to get and turn ascended gear into something you only need for a very specific task. This would mean giving them the stats of exotics with the only thing special being the infusion slots. This would alienate many many players who feel like working for your gear is a central part of any MMO. It would please people like me who want to focus on actually experiencing the content.
Right now you more or less need a new set of exotic armor with new runes and replace at least some trinkets to make the most of a new build. For the average player this is a Herculean task for a mere two to four builds on just one character.
Sadly, 90% of the discussions revolve around ascended gear because “average players” are underrepresented on the forums.
In GW1 (Yes, another one of those posts) it really was about max stats (easy) vs prestige (hard) and I loved that. I know that you can enjoy the game without full matching exotics but in my opinion every player should have easy access to the highest stats and focus on the actual gameplay. Gear progression as a central ingredient of a game is – at least in my eyes – just a lack of creativity.

I know my suggestions are impossible to implement at this stage of the game but I wanted to share this at least once. Please be gentle.
