bangs head on wall.
I am not angyr that people disagree. I would not have said anything if somsone said they didn’t find greatsword mesmer very useful. What I am angry at is the malice. For example the necromancer…the -only- comments I saw called the entire profession ranged of ‘selfish’ to ‘useless’ to ’hurting everyone around them." I was called useless and a waste of space for using a greatsword on mesmer, and I was told not having deflection skills is an act of sheer stupidity that deserved to be laughed at and banned.
These are not acts of culture, they are acts of malice. I don’t mind someone saying “I find grewatsword to be less useful due to its single target damage being too situational”, I mean “greatsword mesmers are just a waste of space.” why not spit in my face while you’re at it.
you wanna paint me out as the one as fault, the one acting malicious, try looking at who I went against. I don’t proclaim I was or am a saint in these arguments, but considering how many times I was subjected to very malicious insults simply for a choice of weapon, did you really expect me to sit quietly or be mr.saint? My friend were right to advice me away from the forums.
I tihnk Rope did it best, even if I suspect he has the same dramatizing that I have.
Reborn nailed it. why have NPCs to fight in a world centered around player on player combat? If it adds story, promotes teamwork, and adds a bit of help to micromanaging, or even provided bonuses for teamworld, good and good…but not this.
sorrow, my issue isn’t with using or not using reflect, thats up to the individual. My issue is someone being called useless or pathetic for not following someone elses build and having their priorities. A mesmer without deflection is still a mesmer, people have various priorities, or heck, different skills unlocked if your in the AC area which would have lower levels.
Selfish or not, its not irony or a ‘waste of space.’ Selfish depends on the situation(as it isn’t -that- critical in most places), but selfish in certain situations is somewhat fair, calling someone worthless for not having a certain skill at all times is just dumb.
Who in their right mind would tyr to punish people for false reporting? sure if its the same group over and over to the point of obvious harassing sure, but give me a break. This wouldnt be a problem if reporting was possible. (the map redesign is an ok idea, but would cause major glitches)
And perma-ban for ‘false reports’….well I’m never playing PvP again…I will -never- support a perma-ban for anything but the most extreme reasons, this isn’t one of them. why do my good games get ruined for me?
edit: it might be wise to start a threat specifically to this subject and refuse to take part in WvW(or heck even gW2 period) until this outrage is fixed.
Yah I have to say get rid of food bonus’s. One’s ability to fight should be based off the field and success he/she has had in combat, not based on a gold sink. Some cost for siege equipment(so new players can siege without having to make PvP kills first) is perfectly fine though.
Case in point on my earlier comments of arrogance. “You can’t do this one thing I expect you to do, your worthless.” get a life man
It`s like you have never played a mesmer
You’re still showing the twisted logic. Mesmer does not -need- to have reflect, nor should one be expected to have one skill out of a list of 30, thats not good design, for Arenanet or players. I main a mesmer, I enjoy spamming shatters and phantasms more.
excellent in idea, the problem with them is there no warning at all. If you know what you’re doing there excellent, but you have to die multiple times to know that. The design isn’t the issue, its the accessibility that makes him too difficult for anyone not ok with dying repeatedly. Heck, even after being TOLD about it it took me 3 deaths to get the timing to dodge him at all.
The re spawn is pretty slow and you can clear one side to free up the party to 3 man the other while a mesmer or thief stealth the switch. Not that I like this fractal it can burn in hell but its not as hard as people think.
Read the thread, tis not the difficulty, its that your forced to take a mesmer or theif with specific skills, if you don’t have them, you can’t win reasonably.
Nikaido, to be fair, the dungeon does have serious issues. The bosses are excellent, but are too hard for the first dungeon, and give no warning to how to fight them, or even indications of an attack. they were nice ideas but weren’t implimented well at all.
However yah…I do think Arenanet lacks the clear idea on dungeons.
If they want to save dungeons, I suggest they make them centered around ideas and mechanics prevalent through the entire dungeon, so when you finally hit those bosses, you have a general idea or some hint to what specifically to watch for AND what to do about it. There are dungeons like this and I’d love to see more, heck, even just a few minibosses with 1 or more similar abilities to recognize is all I can ask for.
But yah, there balancing issues people complain about(particularly necro and warrior) I think wants to be dealt with, as well as managing WvW and megaservers, and new trait updates, dungeons are likely on the backburner
A saving grace could be a summon spammer(which helps the crowd clearing) and a generalist set of skills that can do a lot of things at once, a bardish character if you will. I haven’t played necro but those are my ideas anyway.
How is that irony? because someone didn’t pick a single skill in a lost of other skills?
A mesmer without reflects, on a fight where important things can be reflected is a total waste of space.
Case in point on my earlier comments of arrogance. “You can’t do this one thing I expect you to do, your worthless.” get a life man
How is that irony? because someone didn’t pick a single skill in a lost of other skills?
riot! riot! riot!
raise my torch and pitch fork
Torch doesn’t do enough damage to riot efficiently
everyone raise your swords and hammers!
Laar, you do know hat many many many builds don’t have reflects, and that forcing someone to have it it not good design. It’s amazing how 2 days here has made me not want to do dungeons anymore.
(placeholder, its trying to show page 2, when page 2 is empty)
I think its more the hiding in a corner mentality. I’d love to see proper ambushes in hallways, but finding the nearest corner and spamming 1-5, again see AC example, is not an act of skill, nor does it promote good gamplay, being it promotes this idea of pushing DPS to the biggest extreme is can and forgoing all else. It’s the ideology that is foolish, not the act itself.
Maximion, your comment is not an answer tot he problem. That kind of mentality is a BAD thing, no one wants to go into a game with the ideology they will lose by default(ok, some do but that shouldnt be the default). Sure, losing everyone once in a while is natural, but it shouldnt be a requirement, I shouldnt need to get killed before I know what the attack does. and Kohler is an example of needing to die multiple times on end. if you didn’t see it(focusing on his goons) or didn’t pick the timing instantly, or even saw the attack too late, you have to die AGAIN to get the thing down, and thats not considering the practice for its timing. Dying should be a result, not a requirement.
edit: Can someone please explain what ‘changed’? We are still ignoring the point of this topic I think.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
and if you don’t corrilate that shine with an instant-kill attack? what if you think it’s a buff? what if you think its some kind of bonus? There no indicaiton to what that light is other than a light. to top if off, even if you guess it’s an attack, how do you know how long until it charges? how do you know how to time you dodge, how do you know what KIND of ability it is and what to use to resist it? Again, the only way to find out is to have him use it on you first. You should not have to lose to figure out whats going on. this isn’t I wanna Be The guy, I shouldnt be paranoid about every little thing and have to play with absolute perfection or lose.
edit: unless you have a correlation between something and a result, you can only guess. I -could- guess an attack, but my guess will never be accurate enough to dodge until AFTER he beats me. Again, my BG2 example, I shouldn’t have to lose before I know what to do.
I think thats the point of the joke.
people SHOULD be doubted. Many people misunderstand this concept. Doubting people is just a part of getting to know them. What many people call ‘trust’ is really just giving up on trying to understand others, and that very act is far worse than doubting. It is actually ‘apathy.’
Shinichi Akiyama (Liar Game)
complaining is a natural thing, people will always doubt and think badly of some mechanic, its not an act of malice to call something out as foolish, at least not inherently.
Kensiper again your missing the point. You shouldn’t have to have a specific class list, sure it should be expected to have a variation, but not ‘you need to have a theif/mesmer," which seems to me to the complaint here, which no one seems to have answered if that’s actually realistic or not.
I actually do want to take a seperate post to defend something Malafide said. Being a GM to multiple pen and paper games now(only recently very seriously), one issue thats hard to work with and a real struggle, is creating challenges that can be overcome without forcing deep insight from the players. Player should be able to guess reasonable what to do without.
Take my example, the next session i play to work with this by altering the battle system to less about striaght combat, and be more about problem solving., There is a terrain, idea, or mechanic(say, lava waves or cliffside fractle) and giving advantages when it’s used, while reeming the players if they don’t use it. If I did this out of nowhere and changed the mechanic every time, my players woul be angry that I’m constantly throwing them into a fire and praying they find some ridiculous option out.
But perhaps a better example is a similar argument I had in Baulders Gate 2. I love that games story, but it’s GM work is shotty, no more famous an example comes from the shrine in the palidin quests, which you enter into an old temple to fight enemies. One area has you go itno a T-intersection, one direction forward, the other into zombies/vampires/mummies. The enemies are close enough its almost impossible to avoid as well.(and there have been nothing but goblins and beasts up to this point, and afterwards, as well.)
Now, vampires have what is called, level drain, a debuff that drops your HP, to hit, and more, every single attack, while mummies can cause paralysis on damage(which makes eveyr subsequent attack never miss.) Now, some argue its not even bad, just have a few negative plane protections or protections from energy and you’re golden…which doesnt work. There is no reason or evidence to guess those vampires are there, the area has no indication there will be level drain, so unless you knew it was coming in advance and exploited OOC knowledge, you can’t combat that threat, as there are too many to work with on casual protection alone. This makes the battle completely unfair for players who don’t want to depend on out of game knowledge.
Begin to see the point? It’s not the players job to know things in advance, nor should the players be expected to fail before they know what to do, there should always be some reason to suspect what is going to happen. These are games, not real life, if you end up going “what the-?!” and even with slow examination of everything seen have no indication of what happened until you fail, something is wrong.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
Perhaps I am ignorant in this questoin, but I think this went off topic on page 1. The point(as I see it) is that changes made by the updates causes this dungeon to become HARDER, and thusly that edit is too hard. And yes malfade, kholer coming out of nowhere with no early warning to you MUST dodge is a problem, though it’s solution is not so simple.
I could argue that spider queens minions are a bit much(I’ve heard varying arguments to the queen, and now having played her on a more intelligent note of understanding, dodging, and blocking her attacks, I think I speak a little more wiesely to say she and the boss after are way too hard for a lvl 30 dungeon. Though for more difficult dungeons that is up for debate.
Still, back to the topic, what changed in the updates to cause this? is there something that changed so noticeably it changed how the game could be played? If so we need to focus on that change(or tell me the page it is on) and debate the effect it had, no debate the dungeon as a whole which….is ok for expert players, if not too difficult to a beginning dungeon.
edit: oh and, shout out to shade for exactly what I was thinking. The boss spawning isnt the issue, but that hoard is hard enough without an alreayd veyr difficult boss to do it. The only -real- way I can see to win is to run back into that corner or similar corridor and pick them off that way, I.E, stack(which is very hard given the fire on the stairwell.) It does seem like a poor design on the games fault.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
Yeah, so no more “you can do every dungeon in any party”
you do realize this is kind of the point right? I mean sure you shouldn’t be able to win a dungeon easily with every party, but if someone can prove it’s not truly viable(without a lot of luck) to pass without requiring stealth(and thusly mesmer or theif) thats a legit complaint.
edit: ray, I did make my own group, I still got the same garbage from 2 of 5 of my team, I had to fight half my team to not get crammed into a corner. And part one of your final advice works both ways. Not everyone has to appreciate how I play or what I consider to be strong, but it doesn’t give everyone else to sit here and kitten on anyone who likes the greatsword and is trying to find ways to use it properly. It seems a chunk of this forum can’t take you final advice.
sigh Dalnor, you didn’t read your own article did you? The point of that article stated that the value of playing to win isn’t to win, it’s not about results, its about the means to get there. It’s about taking a strategy that works and trying to make the best of it, examing what works and doesnt work, and where it works and doesnt work….and I agree. It was a fascinating read even through I have seen it four times now. (I also like the artical “powergaming vs roleplayers” for similar.)
However you have not embodied that. Wanna know how many stratgies I found for the spider queen outside of third party walkthroughs? One, hide in corner and spam 1-5, and pray your DPS is enough. If it works for you, fine, but that to me is a waste of time, and a waste of a good dungeon boss.
I don’t want to cram into a corner and spam from a corner, unable to dodge, unable to see, or unable to feel like I did anything but spammed 1-5 and prayed. That isn’t fun. for some it may be, keep me out of it. What I kittened at is the groups on these forums who seem to have it in their heads that if something doesn’t kill the opponent within the smallest time possible, its not worth it, or it’s lesser than everyone else. Thats not how real competition works. You wanna quote thia article, understand it’s themeatics and ideals of action of result first, and know that how fast you kill something is not the same as ‘winning efficiently.’ Good day, I’m done arguing with you on this.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
Optimal by whos standards?! by what scale?! I have see NOTHING but damage per second, and time taken. That is not you examine something! I angry because I’ve had to sit here and read people saying how ‘greater’ berkserker rushes are and how greta stacking is because it works for them, WOOP-DE-DO, it does not make your ideas any better than someone else.
Ok, let’s ignore the argument for a bit ans ask this simple question. By what standard do you and half this forum define ‘efficient’, by what standard do you define somethings worth. If your answer is time and damage per second as the only candidates, you aren’t an expert, your a fool. Actions and strategy are not that simple, you cannot digress something as worthless because of a single statistic. I can argue heads over tails about why this spamming DPS is not efficient, it puts way too much into risk, and way too much into reaction time. Stack is not a strong tactic if it’s used the way I’ve been seeing, its a desperate gambit, and I am not talking about Ashalon Catacombs either.
If you guys want to say ‘I think a sword works here because of X," fine. But me choosing that idea to be worthless and a waste of everyone’s time and entertainment, is not wrong, its not worse, its not better, its not perfect, no different from yours. Stop trying to pretend everyone here is an expert when the only things I have been told is DPS, DPS, and DPS.
Well ok gyler, try this.
Roll a single die to define your race, and class, then sue the same die to define where you go at each level ‘range’(going to more than one area if you need to train crafting or something.) And just…play the game again. who says you need something new? I’ve played tales of symphonia 8 times, and I have a million times more in me.
and for god sake people STOP USING THE WORD EFFICIENT. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous, none of you seem to know what this word means. By throwing you attack to ‘kill something in 10 minutes with no attrition’, you are WASTING potential, it only depends on what you see is spent. Berserker(yes I will start spelling that correctly!) gear and builds are great for time, not in terms of life, risk, or stress.
Finally, not everything is in terms of results, if you think the duelist style(high armor/crit for single strike fighting) is the same as berserker based on results, you are out of your mind.
sigh, dutch, did you even bother to understand what I said.
This is the GARBAGE that makes me want to never enter a dungeon again, I’m not going to waste my time argueing with elitist idiots who seem to think DPS is efficiency, that strength is determined by how fast you can kill, and that DPS is the only way to go. You’re personal ideas on how to play does not give any of you the right to bash every other possible fighting style.
I am getting tired of this, I see it in WvW comments when im researching to join soon(in a few levels), and I see it in dungeons, I am getting really kitten tired of this garbage, and am stepping into legitimate anger. STOP.
Are we really going to go off insulting an etntire weapon line calling eveyr aspect of it garbage? This is hitting pure arrogance. Not only is insulting an entire weapon line because you personally dont fine it useful rather stupid(that isnt how GW2 works anyway, if it was I would have quit).
edit: stop using ‘efficient’, NO ONE seems to have any idea what it means. DPS is not efficiency, stop using words you don’t know to jsutify yourself.
edit: and stop using ‘efficient’. NO ONE has used it properly or even bothered to address a definition, stop using words you don’t understand to bash someone elses style.
This is the knid of things that make me angry, This is the poison in any community, THIS is why i apologized to someone in TF2 server for being a jerk to him. Just because you happen to find a weapon less useful does not give you the right to insult every aspect of it’s use as if its worse. Your strategies are not any better or worse than someone else’s, so back off and stop being so arrogent.
What you define as “efficient” is not right, it’s not better, and you have no right to bash an entire fightingstyle created by the designers just because of YOUR sense of efficiency. I find beserker rushes to be completely worthless, they are too squishy and die in seconds. I find the work you put in to fighting to not be payed off well when you either win right off the back, or are incapable of doing anything. That to me is worthless and a waste of time. Does that make me right? NO, and it doesnt make you right either. BACK, OFF.
you’re your builds are your builds, if you want to propose a build of stats and gear because you find it useful, fine, but dont go kittening on everyone else for not using some setup you personally don’t recognize as ‘efficient’
As for the inflexibility, yes, my guy sues greatswords. Do I use it exclusively? no, but I’m not going to find and carry around a weapon perfect for my character’s idea, just to fill someone else’s goals. I can’t afford to carry around every possible weapon, nor will I try. Thats not inflexibility, thats the nature of a life, you make choices and stick to those choices, not try to play xenos gambit every time you do something.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
you’re right, but when you surround her in a corner you can scatter and dodge her area webs, in a corner, your entire party gets nailed in one shot with a ton of damage.
Why is this so hard to understand, I had this argument with a player in my party during my first raid last night. room to dodge is not a bad thing.
qin….did you hide under a rock lately? In the last two days I’ve had arguments with people defending the beserker gear and builds, all based on DPS damage….but(the intelligent ones anyway) also admit you can just as easily spam healing in the same way and be unkillable. superiority and efficiency are not about DPS or time spend in dungeon, its about a win/loss, how much did you grain for your trouble. Some people like to run in.blank and kill ASAP, some like to play more defensively like my duelist style of play. Its not better or worse, it just is. you wanna gamble for that kind of kill as quick as you can, not my time to lose.
and how does a patch fix player issues? I was just talking with guild mates about this obsession with the beserker build dungeon runners tend to have, we all agreed on why it existed, but were baffled why everyone and their brother dives in full force. should a patch fix that to?
I have nothing against Beserker gear, I have issues with the groups that try to say anything not beserker is somehow worse(I do not count speedruns, those are special types of ‘runs’, not general dungeon crawling) than any of the other ideas. It’s the “Beserkers are better, go play them because your entire weapon line is worthless” mentality that a small group has that I don’t like.
You wanna play a beserker, go for it, I’ll enjoy watching you get ripped apart as a squishy target by WvW videos, and doing it myself once I have time to join in.
If I cna put in my two cents on this, I might have a middle ground.
the issue isnt stacking in and of itself, I’ve heard from my own guild mates of hallways and the like where they would have one guy line up a whole group of enemies for an elementalist to go “boom” and own in such ways by stacking opponents in bottlenecks. Planning those bottlenecks takes strategy, and pulling them off takes tactics and skill. Those aren’t the issues.
There there the hide in corner tactic I saw in AC, against the spider queen…which was really stupid because the queen had are attacks at both melee and ranged, so she would hit the whole party at once, the only boon was increased damage on the players part, but not nearly as much as if everyone just surrounded here form different directions and opened fire. I think even simmon the digger from gurren lagann would call that kind of stack and pray ridiculous.
To be fair, from the videos I’ve seen, Kohler is not the hardets AC boss, that goes to the rumbler enemy at the end of path 3. Though yes, dodging kohler is easier said than done, and a nightmare for the first dungeon ever. If you havn’t learned to dodge very very well, you’re going to be in trouble.
Thats what bugs me though, he requires such detailed reaction time, and hes the very first boss, its too big a spike.
what bug is this? I have a whole guild who didn’t know what this bug is.
To original post:
How about you realize he has a different style then you’re own. If it happens to not work in your party, fair enough, tell him the reason why and move on. Telling another player their entire fighting style is useless simply because of a choice of weapon. you handle it like a person facing differing ideals and combat, you adapt it into a team strategy.
I am glad that you’re trying trying not to be some beserker obsessed jerk, but you’re following the same mentality of “I see his build as useless, so I don’t want it”. I think through he post I’ve read in the last 4 days(2 as lurker), this game is balance enough to handle any potential combination, is why I even bother playing it. the last thing you want to do is make the environment toxic by trying to call out entire weapon sets garbage.
and gyler, why not jsut start a new character and play the game again. there is more of the game than just lvl 80 content. you’re right, there is a limited endgame content, we have world vs world for unending lvl 80 combat, PvE by definition must have an end, and when you reach that, you play the rest of the game you haven’t gotten to play in a while.
I feel I need to address a few comments made against my words before I go do english. And thats because If eel a bit insulted by the words. As the only viable excuse for these berserker rushes are runtime, which is fine, but a waste.
Second, you think the beserker build is the only way to be played? Thats insanely foolish, I would argue the beserker build is way too squishy, I can’t stand that kind of high damage low dodge mentality, I need armor and defense, as running in and praying I beat my enemy in the first shot isn’t my style, I am not kyosuke nambu.
When you get more experienced in the game, you will understand.
I don’t want to udnerstand, I never will, I think that kind of mentality is downright offensive. Telling someone that a single set of stats and gear is the only viable way to play, is not an act of skill, its insulting the game and it’s players. If the game is truly so terribly unbalanced that beserker is the only way to go, then the games design need words. Thankfully, thats garbage. The ability to take a hit and not have to run beowulf style is not an act of weakness nor any less than another style, and I never want to become the kind of person who yells at others for not following some expected build. In fact, I have some apologizes to make in TF2 now.
Am I the only one getting a bit angry about this beserker build obsession?
Nope, we have a ranting topic about how someone hates berserkers for their made up reasons everyday. People are ignorant and not willing to adapt. Skritt happens.
There are people ranting about a community that seems to love berserk to death and problems in gameplay that result out of that. I also lvoe the hypocrisy, you claim no one else wants to adapt while saying one per-selected style is the only way to go.
No one is force you to join into zerker groups, you can make your own LFG. Be less ignorant and respect other people playstyle, since they find that way more fun.
Every once in a while thats fine, and I do run my own groups now as a result. Buy guess what, that kind of mentality is only viable for speedruns, if you demanding it purely because you think other builds are useless, you’re just being a jerk. My complaints are to the fools who do nothing but demand beserkers every run, or threaten kicks for not being that. I was kicked out a group for not being beserker without warning in the title, and again for not being able to speedrun. These are not fair things to expect, they are specialized things, know the difference.
Jesus people, I don’t pretend to be the greatest poster in the world, but stop the blind attacks. Yes I get frustrated easily, that doesn’t mean I don’t care.
1) I dont think that boss is ‘the hardest boss in the world’ I just had no idea what to do against him, and the only advice the guy who knew what he was doing had, was to skip and not fight him. And yes, in restrospect we got a bad team with an inexperienced leader and an elitist veteran, given our veteran decided not to tell us the one-shot kills only really work with beserker gear.
2) Stop bashing other weapons. Every weapon has it’s purpose. yes, in many spots the greatsword was useless due to it’s low close range damage, but in some situations(like hitting burrows cross room) its damage output was greater. Yes, I’m aware the greatsword isn’t as efficient or reliable, but I won’t change my entire fightingstyle for a character like that, personal rule of mine.
3) I will not use beserker gear, none of my current character designs have that even if they all could get to level 30. If the dungeons are made in such a way you are pushed into that level of specifics something is wrong.
3) We tried killing the burrows, 15 times, we tried focusing on the burrow, focusing on the goons between burrows(to avoid swarming), focusing on defending the items, none of it worked. We had 3 characters with excellent crowd clearing to(one due to frostbow, our ranger) and so you know, I was the first one to hit the burrows every single time.
Or and iris, yes our veteran was useless and didn’t communicate, stacking that queen when we had ranged attackers kept killing us as her AEO attack would kill our entire party every time, AC was too hard for my skill level(though difficult spiking is neither here nor there), the lieutenant was impossible because no one was talking enough to call out the tell I am angry at myself for not noticing. I don’t know if skipping the way we did is an exploit, but it seems suspicious(again neither here nor there). And yes, I do find the people saying ‘go beserker gear’ as if thats the only viable option to be anger inducing. Begin to see why I was so frustrated?
4) Thank you to those who helped with the advice, I don’t know why I didn’t notice the tells, I’m usually very good at dodging, won many a champion battle without getting hit.
5) Finally, taking the words from maximum, now that I know the difficulty I can see the major differences from what I’m use to in game(I beat the beach battle in arc fantasia on try 1 before, I can handle hard battles) I thank those who did give me good advice for putting up with my fairly aggressive posting(I lacked the time to cool down giving I had to sleep in 2 hours). Hopefully my next run will be better now that I can see how to dodge the attacks from queeny and the Lieutenant(serious how did I not see these…) I can help other players from doing just that if we die. Either way it means learning some new ideas for crowd clearing work. With that, I’m out or I’m going to start posting here forever
Xaller, first line. yes, I will rant when im frustrated, it helps clear my head to do these things. And yes, when people go off on the “you need to play with X build and nothing else” I get ticked off.
I don’t need grief or reminders how terrible I am at whatever I do thank you. Also, yes, the DW2dungeons link has sections for exploits in a few of the posts, there’s a tab for it in the final part of path 3.
And we did memorize the order of the first 9 burrows(we didn’t get past 9), they still swarmed 4 enemies each before we could kill them, and spawned too quickly, with each one having a remarkable killing power. Memorizing their order didn’t help. We also had frostbow and fire greatsword, neither made any difference(all four team members had control of them at some point.)
I’m going to bed now that physics is finished. Hopefully a later attempt will do better than my first. I’ll check up once on this next time I try to see if anyone has ideas on the 15 burrows.
You expect people to follow specific build orders in a videogame simply because you don’t like seeing other buildings? the only reason for this would be to fit a niche in you party. Your treading dangerous ground with that post.
edit: @frifox btw
And thanks for the post Rasimir, good to see some players who can play without specific builds. Makes me feel more like a failure for my terrible run this morning, but not in a bad way.
(edited by VideoGamermike.5813)
joins saint in wanting a shark pit Dr.Evil would be proud
to be fair, the long story is just how I post when I’m frustrated, helps me calm down and think a little more fairly.
And guess, there is nothing wrong with a greatsword build mesmer, a bow ranger, or anything similar. I use both of them and have been very effective. Yes, me not noticing those tells was a matter of inexperience, but stop bashing builds because they aren’t yours, its just arrogant.
I do thank everyone for the advice, learning about the dodges and tells(and seeing them in video) has helped a lot. However my bigger problem is with the hoard of bugs defending those machines the NPC sets up. How could we have handled that? and don’t tell me to pick up beserker builds or some garbage like that. It makes me feel a lot better about the designer to see those tells though, which is a good thing.
1) I did make my own group.
2) I was the greatsword mesmer, and I don’t appreciate being attacked for a choice of play style.
3) My ranger is a shortbowman, I find him boring, but that doesn’t give you the right to call a teamate terrible on fighting style alone.
4) and guardian is a support class, not a killing class, i sadly do not remember his build., or I didn’t pay attention.
5) I did ask for advice, either no one talked or expected me to follow the way every other berserk build does even though I had a duelist style(precision and toughtness)
6) You are calling my group bad because they didn’t have a specific weapon/stat combo that isn’t beserker. I don’t want stereotype builds telling me what to do, I want something to aid in problem solving. The link is very much appreciated, though you should be aware it’s giving out exploits.
This seems much more fair and makes me feel less cheated on the queen and lieutenant, even if he is still pretty ridiculous due to timing(again, very first dungeon)
dalanor I don’t know whether to call you ignorant or arrogant. “I don’t understand why a big portion of player base still (isn’t) willing to play by the wya the game (is) meant to be played. Beserker gear is the wya to go.”
Thats is one of the stupidest things I have seen in GW2. first, the point of the game is to play in whatever way you find the most fun to the best of your ability, all builds have potewntial applicatoins, its working as a team that matters. Yes, some builds like a staff guardian aren’t very public friendly due to a more specialized nature, but doesnt make them ‘bad’, just more specialized.
Am I the only one getting a bit angry about this beserker build obsession? Now were banning people because they don’t have a gear build you don’t like? way to ruin the game for everyone else. If the game was meant to be beserker, guess what, we wouldnt have different builds. The only thing your doing by this useless stigma is giving players like me who are trying to learn and problem solve a middle finger for not being your dog.
and as to the comment of “I just don’t understand” allow me the same comment I made to the equally offensive “why can’t people just follow rules.” Because people aren’t dogs that follow orders without question, most people play games and join combat to fight their own unique way in a game that allows said uniqueness, not follow your stereotype.
Alreayd made an edit to the dodge. But you guys are unintentionally not helping. this is the first dungeon in the game, and we have to keep track of an animation that lasts 2 seconds, time our dodges to it perfectly, or reflect, all with no warning of it. That’s a lot easier said than done, especially for someone not trained to notice that.
Then please Jzaku, enlighten me what we could have done. Please inform me how, in the veyr first dungeon, we could have resisted this guy pulling our entire party to oen spot and killing us in one whirl of his blade.
Thats not a lacking of strategy thats just handicapping stats. But if we missed some resistance to him(even the veteran said he wasn’t worth it,) please inform me of it. Let me make this clear, I’m not here just to rant, I’m here to try and find out if I could have done -anything-. And no, I do not include rebuilding traits and ‘improving equipment’ to be viable options in a beginner dungeon.
edit: Thank you for the hint to stopping that lieutenant. Keep in mind when I say veteran I do mean a guy who had been through the dungeon many times before. He was a terrible teammate or just angry that I wasn’t stacking. None the less I feel a bit less cheated, even if I still feel cheated given there is no hint to this in a starting dungeon.

dutch, we had a full veteran on our team who couldn’t give us any advice on what to do. the only inexperienced one was me. But please, explain how that lieutenant was ‘easy’, he killed our ENTIRE PARTY in one shot, every battle. the gravelings killed me if I fought them more than 3 to 1, heck, our lvl 80 guy was killed by 2 young bugs, and an elite bug.
Serious though, what could we have done? we tried every strategy I could find on the wiki and a google search, nothing worked even when we executed it perfectly.
Oh boy…first dungeon experience I’ve had in GW2….and I never want to go into a dungeon again. Not because it was hard, the story mode was some of the most fun I’ve has in GW2….then I tried doing exploring….I think it be best if I spun you the tale. I was in the catacombs under the plains of ashford.
I spend 8 full parties(2 hours) of joining teams, only to find every, single, kitten , person I met, wanted to speed run and skip the ENTIRE dungeon every single time. NO one bothered to be serious, they just wanted to skip, and they succeed, but let me and anyone not level 80 unable to play, brilliant.
Finally, I get into a team…and then this happens. We leap into the den of spiders…..and quickly realize we have no chance. The suggestion of a more veteran player was to hull up in a corner….which was stupid because the spider queen(who i knew was coming) and the spiders has ranged or area attacks that made the corner actually worse. We beat the spider but the queen destroys us FOUR TIMES without even losing 50%, our so called ‘pro’ not realizing our best wave is when two of us sat on the opposite side so she couldn’t hit all five of us at once.
We kill her after deciding to fight more in the open, and move to the next guy…who we fight once….he uses his little pull spin, and kills everyone. No, not joking, just, spin, we all get pulled to him and die instantly. We do this twice and then use what I suspect is a small exploit to pass(I suspect, but given the BS this guy was I wasn’t complaining.)…then we hit the gravelings.
You know something about zerglings? they may have swarmed like ants, but they weren’t very powerful and were beaten in a few shots. But no, thats not hard enough, now we need to defend two set points from spawns that spawn 4 at a time almost instantly and do insane amounts of damage, and of course, the spawns are in pairs. We hit the last one(I believe 8), then get killed by the remaining 42 graves. We do this EIGHT TIMES, to varying degrees of failure. I then suggest that because they seem to cap out after 4-6 spawns, we kill 4-6 spawns after taking down one next. That fails and we still get swarmed, though a bit less, because these enemies are able to survive a full minute of punishment.
so given all of that…I feel like I was cheated. I feel like we never had a chance to beign with because the game never gave us anything that we had any chance against. We had area attacks from a veteran elementalist, single target power from a greatsword mesmer and shortbow ranger, as well as support from a guardian, and zeor targeting from a rouge. so why did we keep losing? these weren’t close lsoses either, we had literally no chance to fight, the damage output of the enemy was so high we didn’t last 20 seconds, unless we stacked up we couldnt even kill anything at all. Heck, the parts we did pass I felt like we half cheated to do it, and one I suspect may have been an exploit!
If someone wants to post some ideas, feel free, but at of now, I give up on dungeons, this wasn’t fun, it was like playing I wanna be the guy on insane. Maybe it’s just me, but the only one who wasn’t getting fed up witht he dungeons poor deisng was the so-called pro who’s only advice was “keep doing the same thing everyone else does even when its failing badly”

As of now I have joined another guild. Now because the guild is small that does leave me in a bit of a predicament, as it lacks the size to be on during various hours. But out of respect, I won’t join outside Borliss pass, where my main guild is hosted, so I don’t have to start picking sides in WvW.
I’m willing to add in a secondary guild that has a good variety of players for the sake of making friends and still keeping the original goal I intended of(having 1 or more people to jump into PvE with at anytime), and as a ‘contact’ list in WvW, but bar some large event, I have to stick with the guys who gave me my first guild in terms of loyalty.
