I don’t mind the temporary content, but when it comes at the exclusion of permanent content then it is a problem.

Flame & Frost is not permanent content though.

I think that’s the point he was trying to make—they’re putting all this effort into temporary content, and next to none into permanant content.

Disappointed that F&F ends w/ a dungeon

If you refuse to run the dungeon I’m sure you can see the story on youtube once it’s been implemented.

I don’t refuse to run the dungeon. It’s being forced into a WoW Raid in order to run it that turns my stomach. I took down Shiro back in 1 without needing other players, why would I want to have them here?

I think it is down to a matter of accessibility.

Implement a LFG tool, make sure the dungeon is free of frustrating mechanics and it would be a much more appropriate environment to finish off a story. Though I still prefer my stories without other people.

Challenge should still be there for those who want it, with appropriate rewards. An extra path, optional bosses, a hardmode, something like that. It’s where fractals nearly worked so well, many levels of difficulty with a forgiving entry level. If it weren’t for annoying gameplay mechanics then they would have been a slam dunk for me.

Better idea. Make it so it can be played with a single player and the two provided NPC Heroes, then scale it upwards for the WoW-clone Raid groups.

Someone else was responding ‘So you want to get rid of all player interaction in the game?’. No—just get rid of it being required, while leaving it in place for the people who want to do missions that way. Anet has already proved that they’re excellent at upscaling and downscaling events for levels and number of players. Why they failed to use that knowledge in the two places it would make the most sense completely escapes me.

Wow. This is a crying shame, to be honest—the Flame and Frost has been been an interesting story so far..only to fall on it’s face at the end due to requiring forced grouping content right at the end. There was a reason people loved having Heroes and Henchman in Guild Wars 1, you know—so they didn’t have to put up with the WoW raid garbage. Heck, F&F as it is rather pointedly provides you with a pair of Heroes to travel with—making it impossible to do the mission with just them is a rather poor design decision in an otherwise excellent storyline.
Then again, I’m wondering if Anet was just being lazy and just throwing this in to end things? After all, it’s only going to be there until the 12th, not the full month like the other parts (Basically, what they’re telling is us the last section of Flame and Frost is less important than Super Adventure Box, which was there for a full month? Sad.)

As for the Personal Story…blech, I just ran across that in the wiki—which means I’ll probably get stuck with a full set of characters with 100% exploration, and none of them ever actually finishing the Personal Story. :-/ Sad, especially as this is one of the things I like about how Guild Wars runs things, by not forcing you into a lame raid group in order to progress. Very much dropping the ball here, Anet.

Best. Commercial. Ever.

As someone old enough to remember the original ads that inspired this…I’m doing a RL ROTFL here. :-)

Though the true awesome of all this? Realizing that somewhere in Arenanet’s offices, there’s a full-size Rytlock costume. Wonder if they have used/will use that at trade shows?

Best way to make baubles

in Super Adventure Box

Post your lucrative bauble-making strategies here.
Each skin costs 12,500 baubles, so let’s figure out the best ways to make them.

1) Do story mode speed runs (ignore mobs except for keys) for baubles

2) Do story mode w/o infantile on to get 2 bauble bubbles per zone chest; repeating first zone over and over may prove most lucrative

3) Break open world super adventure chests, kill mobs, get baubles

What are your suggestions?

2) how did you manage to get 2 all the time? After the first run I can’t get them anymore.

Create asuran character, do zone one, bank bubbles, delete character, repeat.

does it reset after a day?

The 2 bubbles are once per chest per day per character. Continuously creating new characters will get you an infinite supply of bubbles.

Hmm. I was getting baubles in those chests each time—both regular and Infantile modes, not bubble baubles (I’m not in game—bubbles are the ones with 250 baubles, not the other way around, right?)

Difference between Living World and F&F?

I’m more worried about the reaction of the new player who comes in late and finds out about all the things they missed and content they’ll never get to see, myself.

So... will it really be "Living World" ?

Hmmm. so to sum it up, you don’t give a kitten about a new player coming in and finding all this stuff they missed and can never do because it’s been removed, as long as you have another reason to go back to old zones? That’s nice.

Short? Very Short?

Hmm. Wasn’t aware of the replays—but can you get multiples of the main awards (in particular, Rox’s 12-slot bag), or is that only a one-time thing?

I can see both sides of the issue here—one of the things that I thought was rather lousy about Myst URU was that there was all this GM and Player-driven content that happened before I ever had a chance to get into the game—and the only way I had to learn about it was through wikis and web-pages.

OTOH…how about ArenaNet let the races kludge together something that allows players to visit a dreamstate or spirit realm or some such where these events are eternally active? That way new players can see a recreation of the event (and more importantly, get the achievements and loot from it! ;-) ), without having to keep them active world-wide. A Tyrian version of Paragon City’s Ouroboros, if you will..

Why is Meatoberfest still active?

Simple—because Butcher’s Block is the Charr equivilent of a frat house! :-)
Alternatively if you want a nastier explanation—you might ask why there is so much meat there..and so few enemy forces around that particular town…

My Characters are Norn.

It also makes a lot more sense that our characters are involved in both stories this way. It would be a bit too much of a coincidence if we went to see Rytlock right at the time he was giving Rox her orders AND walked into Hoelbrak just as Braham was asking Knut for help.

But like Tinni said the norn don’t have a government, each homestead is self-governed and independant. They get to make up their own rules, and it’s pretty unlikely those rules would include helpling other homesteads whose leaders have had a massive falling out with respected members of their community.

So Braham looked at his situation – he’s got a bunch of small homesteads who, if they aren’t already, will soon be as badly off as his and can’t afford to leave their own homes undefended to help; he’s got a big settlement (Hoelbrak) who have the ability to help him but no desire to do so, and also more than enough of their own problems with the influx of refugees on top of the usual issues. Or he’s got another big “homestead” full of trained warriors who are also facing this threat and who don’t have any reason to hate him.

Which of those looks like the best choice to you?

To get the little Asuran thief that’s been evesdropping on this whole thing to go with him and the two of you clear the place of problems all by yourselves, of course!
Silly bookahs… ;-)

Funny, I dumped 100g worth of exotic staves into the forge and got nothing valuable back. Isn’t RNG great!

Just save your cash and buy wait for a price drop. We have to stop supporting this terrible game mechanic.

So you’re going to stop supporting a ‘terrible game mechanic’ by buying up stuff gotten by the people who do support this mechanic? ;-)

Just a note here—I ran both instances with my ~40 thief (at a disadvantage at that, since my skill selection doesn’t have any AoEs…I tend to be a single-target sort of guy, apparently) and managed them with effort. You just have to not get frustrated when you go down (and not get too mad at the final repair bill—I had 2 items broken, and all of the rest damaged when doing Cragstead), and just keep getting back up and getting back into the fight as quickly as possible. Also, as has been mentioned, hang back and pull small chunks at a time, rather than running in like Leroy. :-)

That said, my favorite part of the instances—Rox and the baby devourer. :-)
