Open World killing is def a bit slower, but I’m finding that killing ing larger groups is the way to go with it and I still Mind Wrack in the open world just to get things down faster.
Dungeons and WvW is where this build is doing it’s best for me. Scepter could def still use some tweaking on Anets side but hey at least it’s another option for people bored with shatter, or Phantasms., and sick of GS/Staff/ and Sword.
Okay so bear with me here, this isn’t an entirely original Idea but after seeing Trigr’s Countless Suicide spec,( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guild-Wars-2-Mesmer-Countless-Suicide-Spec/first#post973631 ) I thought to myself.. you know you take it and tweak it a bit and use Scepter You have a crazy clone killing spec.
So pretty much The Idea is the same you want to kill your clones, not shatter them kill them, and Scepter kills clones faster than any other weapon in the game.
So here’s the spec.
10/25/10/0/25
Game play: Much like The Countless Suicide Spec the point of this spec is to get three clones out asap, then start killing them, this is where scepters auto attack is very strong because every third Auto Attack kills a clones applying Cripple, a Random Condition, and Confusion on everything in an PBAoE of the clone. Another benefit of Scepter is that it spawns clones on top of your target not away from. So as clones die and spawn it will be on top of the target.
Now there are 5 floater points in this Build you can pop anywhere you like. I popped mine into Illusions to get the 3 Might on Shatter because while this is mainly a clone kill spec it’s also a confusion based spec, (which IMHO is extremely powerful even in PvE. ) so we will be hitting Cry of Frustration only when we can instantly re-spawn 3 more clones (which is almost on CD. As we can generate clones like crazy.) and 50 more condition damage.
Crit is also important because you still want your clones to apply bleed when they crit and bleed = more condition damage.
Anyways just a Theory craft build not expecting this to be widely received but I’m using it right now and it’s not to shabby, but it offers some options for people sick of phantasm and shatter specs.
-Enjoy
Feel free to add critiques, criticism all that below. Like I said not a perfect build but it’s a lot of fun and does decent damage.
I would like to see a pistol main hand so there’s more than one main hand option.. or just have them fix scepter. I hate feeling Pigeon Holed into sword, though I do use Scepter here and there when I’m bored or in Dungeons (My main weapon is staff.) for the Confusion ray.
But Pistol MH would be gladly welcomed by me.
I’m running pretty much the same build.

May not be the “best” spec ever but I do pretty good with it. in WvW and PvE (I haven’t gotten into SPvP really as I want to do it with friends but their not receptive to it so I may start PuGing and I may completely change my mind on the spec after but for now it does what I want! XD.)
But I’m actually running Rampager Gear (with Lyssa Runes.) with a Mixture of Rampager and Carrion accessories. Weapons I run Staff (with Accuracy Sigil.) Sword (sometimes Scepter with Fire Sigil.) and Focus (some times Pistol with Fire Sigil.)
My Stats are not OMG amazing but they get the job done.
HP: 17,242
Armor: 2,100
Power: 1,616
Condition Damage: 1,076
Crit Chance: 54%
Crit Damage: 20% (Low I know but really when I shatter it’s to apply confusion, even Mind Wrack but it’s nice Mind Wrack hit’s pretty alright.)
The Spec can take a few hits esp with 3 clones out, and I’m usually the last one alive and able to kite bosses and survive until the team get’s back in Dungeons..Fractals (man I hate those things.) If I’m the last one left I usually have to kill myself or reset the fight, but I do repair far less than everyone else, and while it doesn’t do the highest numbers (so no giant kitten numbers.)the condition damage machine Guns numbers out like no tomorrow, and confusion works well as long as you know the fights and know when to use it. So you’re really more sustained damage than burst, I personally feel the build feels a lot like an Affliction Warlock from WoW but with clones you shatter here and there and no fear and a lot more movement involved.

I run a 0/20/20/0/30 condition/confusion Shatter Build with Staff and Sword/Focus though I do keep a Pistol and Scepter in my Bag and swap them when I get bored, but TBH other than speed buff from Focus, I rarely leave staff.
I’m a guy but I have short fingers too, I find that the Razer Nostromo, actually has much easier to access buttons if you don’t mind sacrificing the screen.
What Lemur is not taking into account is that the toughness doesn’t only benefit you, it also benefit’s you’re clones and quite a lot. Clones staying alive to stack bleeds making it to the mob/boss to shatter is huge part of your dps.
So no Toughness is not useless in moderation.
I also run 0/20/20/0/30 Build atm, and I have to say it’s damage is anything but bad.. Are you shattering for confusion damage? Your clone up time is ridiculous so there’s little reason not to have three clones almost immediately after a shatter. If you’re simply doing condition with that build you’re only doing it half way so yeah your damage isn’t going to be great.
Actually I hate the Levitating GS and made my Mesmer an Asura for the very reason of not wanting to see it. I much prefer my “I have the power” GS attack than the lame spinning hovering sword.. There are three races for people that like that animation please leave the other 2 alone for those of us that don’t.
I use a Staff/Clone Bleed/Confusion Shatter Condition damage build, and I don’t have any problems soloing at 80 at all. Infact I solo champs without going under half health constantly.
This isn’t life, this is a video game one in which I paid for. It’s kind of messed up that my recreational activity is now causing me more stress than my actual job.
If this is the case I’d advise you find a new game.
You have to understand these events are genuinely world changing. Go to Sunwhatever cove, and look around, talk to the NPCs of lions arch. Compare it to what it looked like 2 days ago – the events actually reshaped the landscape and it’s characters.
This kind’ve permanence and feeling that the players participated in something that had an impact in the history of Tyria isn’t possible in a repeating event. Other MMO’s don’t have any meaning when they’re like “congratulations you beat some random evil”… 20 minutes til story arc resets and you can all go and beat some random evil… again.
As for saying you paid and thus deserve it, that isn’t true in ANY business in the world. If you pay money but there is a schedule and you miss the schedule, you miss out.
You could still have that happen, I mean hell they could have a main event then after it’s done have an NPC that sends you to a phased version of the event so people could still do it. You can still have everything you like and make it so everyone can do the content.
Also the rewards were ridiculous, you should never get progression gear from a one time event it should be purely cosmetic stuff like weapon and armor skins maybe a fancy title…. things that don’t give people an unfair advantage economically and game play wise.
Um yes that content does, I and everyone else who missed it due to work/time zone etc. PAID you understand what that word means right? Paid for this game, most of us continue to support it by buying gems. I have 100% right to all content just as everyone else does. This isn’t life, this is a video game one in which I paid for. It’s kind of messed up that my recreational activity is now causing me more stress than my actual job.
I’m sorry you got to make the event and get to partake in the content, you also paid for, but guess what so did I, but I didn’t get to partake in it. and no I didn’t chose not to, I’m a manager I can’t just take time off or call off for a video game event. Nor should I or anyone ever have to. It’s poor game design bottom line.
You do have the same opportunity War Siren, you are just choosing things in your life over things in the game. Yet another fallacy of reasoning. Lets follow your line of logic. What about the people who cannot play at all on Fri/Sat/Sun because they work entire weekends doing in home care or they are doctors that are on call. No matter how wide you make a window, someone will be left out. The only content that people cant be left out of is static, dynamic, forever repeated content that makes up most of the game. If you have the mindset that everyone must be able to do all of the content, you will never have fun, world changing events.
I would much rather have events I cant make sometimes that are keeping the game fresh than have a boring static world like most other MMOs do.
That is a load of BS absolute BS, and you know it is. There are ways of opening a window large enough to not only make it accessible to everyone but also make them not stagnate and boring.
This post reeks of fallacies. They dont hate anyone, they monitor trends in population and place the events during times when the largest amount of people typically play. Sadly they cannot always get every single person involved in an event, but they can strive for maximum exposure. You still have a fantastic, huge, entire game out there outside of these events. The events dont impact gameplay enough for it to require exposure to the entire population.
Yeah no, I payed for my box. I have the same rights as anyone else to enjoy every piece of content this game puts out as does everyone else who paid for this game. They do impact it though because it’s content I paid for and continue to support and pay for through purchase of gems, I have been denied and will never get to play.. what part of that isn’t sinking into your head. NO ONE should ever be denied content of a game they payed for EVER.
Whilst I missed all of Halloween and only caught the last 2 hours of Lost Shore, I’m pretty sure they don’t “hate” weekend workers.
They have said before they simply do events when they have the highest amount of concurrent players. Which, as much as it’s a pain, makes perfect sense.
I disagree entirely, what would make perfect sense is something set up for 24-36 hours so everyone can get involved. You want to hold it on sundays fine, but make sure that all of your player base at least has a chance to do it. One Day events are fine One time in a small window of time is not.
You had me until 4.. You should never demand anyone’s job. People make mistakes and should be allowed to learn from them. This wasn’t a life or death situation, it was simply a bad Idea that in the long run didn’t harm anyone. I think if you make any demand on these people it’s that they learn from their mistakes and don’t do it again.
I think the question is pretty simple (though I should elaborate I think the word hate is to strong and only used it because the Title “What do you have against the Weekend Work Force?” was too long.) What do you have against the Weekend Work Force, and other time zones for that matter? Did we not pay the same amount of money for the Game Box as everyone else? Personally I paid for a CE Box, and continue to drop 30-50 more dollars usd in the Gem shop every pay. Why is it my time is not as valuable to you as the Weekday Workforce?
We who are the weekend workforce already give up our weekends so that the weekday work force can spend time with their families, and we keep the world running those two days a week. Our time is just as valuable as anyone Else’s.
Seriously please stop these one time events and American Weekday Work force favored event times.
As many others have suggested there are ways around this to still keep events unique and make it so everyone no matter what days of the week they work, or what timezone they live in can have the chances to attend. (Personally I think an Eternal Battleground style instance that can support a lot of people is the best way and have it run for 24 -36 hours. and just have the loot chest be open able once per account.)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please consider all of your customers in the future we all paid for and continue to support this game, there’s no reason why a certain playtime demographic should be favored.

Yes the reward should have been Cosmetic weapon skins etc. Not actual gear.
So let me ask you Hermes what would be so wrong with having this event run on say… a 5 hour or so loop so more people can experience it at some point?
That wouldn’t stop people from complaining about the people who can attend every one of those events as well. They still end up with more.
It’s a game kitten Grow up. Do you complain because they give out prizes at some baseball games as well? Do you really think people who have season tickets will complain when they can’t go to a game, but at that game, they gave out free hats or some other bs? No… Why? because they’re not babies.
Let me use your example against you….
If it was a baseball game or any other real live event I missed freebies, oh well I dodn’t spend $130.00 USD or anything for those events so what ever, guess what I did pay $130.00 USD for this game, yes that’s right I PAID FOR THIS GAME. I have every right to be upset that they not only threw an event (Twice now.) that I could not attend because I have real life obligations, and to top it off the people that were there got an unfair advantage of gear (not even talking about the legendary precursors, that 20 slot bag and the Accessory were really amazing. Not to mention 2-3 random Exotics.) I as someone who PAID (Not to mention what I’ve spent on Gems.)for the game have every right to be upset that I was excluded from it.
Nothing was handed over to the players. It was a large scale long event and needed many people to be completed, and all who was there was expecting at least something good, otherwise it wouldn’t have been worth it.
You had to work at that time? Bad luck.
You had to go out with your friends? Bad luck.
You can’t blame ANet for giving worthy prizes for an important large scale event announced since the beginning of the month, just because you couldn’t participate.I honestly would be pissed too if I missed the event, so I understand your anger, but you really can just blame the odds. There will always be someone working at the time of an event. And they can’t just appeal for everyone’s timezone.
Sorry mate I don’t think unfair advantages needed to be given to the people who got yo participate. simply giving out some neat cosmetics something they can show off, but not make a ton of gold on or avoid spending a ton of gold attached to a 1 time event is B.S. There was zero reason to give out actual gear.
the halloween event, AND this one, was a big upset for me =/ they have already lost maybe a couple hundred people from these events.
so many people are upset.if this happens again, they are losing 2 more.
my fiance and i.
At least three more because I will be gone too, I’m sure many others that are pretty peeved they missed it. and then missed out on gear.
@OP If you were one of the people who got the item, then you would be praising ANET for allowing the chance to get it in alternative means.
This thread is created purely from jealousy. fail.
ANET offered the event at the time when MOST PEOPLE WERE ON. Its just RNG that you couldnt be on at that time and RNG if you didnt get the item by participating, and RNG if you got disco in the middle of the event. Its called CHANCE. Its called LIFE. Enough!
It’s called a game that we all equally paid for (actually those of us that bought the CE paid more.), not life. Giving Items for a one time event in a Video Game is wrong and it was unfair, they should have given cosmetics or a title.
Oh and BTW even if I was able to attend and did get a legendary precurssor, I would have still felt the way I do now. it’s bad design, and IS an unfair advantage for those that had real life responsibilities and couldn’t make it. As I aid we all paid for the game so it’s not life it’s a video game.
Honestly, I was sad I had to work and miss the vent (I work every Sunday.) Then I get home and find out Gear was given out, and I went from sad to pretty Peeved. I’d like to demand they give EVERYONE gear because giving gear for 1 time events and not cosmetics or titles is Bad and who ever’s Idea that was should be smacked on the head… But I know it won’t happen and pretty much us weekend working class just got screwed and this will most likely be a trend.
I know a lot of people are feeling indignant at the moment. There are a lot of people who slogged through the event in its entirety, only to watch other people on their server get the precursor that they wanted.
Note: this post is explicitly addressed at those of us who did manage to finish the event and loot the big crab chest.
The thing is, Anet didn’t tie any of us down in a chair and force us to play through the whole event. Each one of us who did the thing chose, out of our own free will, to finish the event chain and go through the thing. We can blame everything from advertisements of the Lost Shore events to bad luck to whatever, but in the end, we were the one who did the whole thing through. If nothing else, the process – if you think about it – was fairly remarkable. It did tell a fairly reasonable story, after all.
“But there are people who logged in during the final phrase and got all the loots! omg unfair!”
Yes. But there are just as many people who logged on RIGHT as the event ended. Or people who couldn’t make the event at all. Or people whose overflows got glitched and got nothing at all. What about them?
“But that other guy got the [insert item here!]”
Yes, but to everyone else, they’re all the “other guys.” That is just how RNG works, and if nothing else, it’s a testament to the power of social psychology. Furthermore, we had no way of knowing what was going to be in those chests. They could’ve been all greens and blues and whites for all we knew. Shouldn’t we be at least a little grateful that we got stuff out of it at all?
I think it’s very easy for us to be pointing fingers. But we can just as easily take a step back, take a deep breath, and go outside or do something else. The event’s done. It wasn’t perfect, but you did it. What has happened happened. Are you seriously going to let someone else’s good fortunes be a roadblock for your own happiness?
Think about what motivates you to play, or what motivates you to participate. I think we have a tendency to awfulize too much.
I’ll tell you what reset time, work at my shop for me, and let me play the event and get Loot, and then I’ll cheer up.
I know, I want to know who’s bright Idea this was to give out Exotics and Legendary Precurssors.. Then I wanna smack their hands with a ruler and yell never again at them!
Okay, I’m all for cosmetic skins being given out during one time only events, Really whatever to those, but gear and legendary Items to boot? That is not cool Anet! For the people that could not make it because they had to work, live in a Timezone where they can’t play at that time, whatever the reason (I had to work as I do every Sunday.). We got screwed and hard. It’s bad enough we missed an event I’m pretty sure we could suck that up and take it on the chin like a champ, and even missing out on Item skins… But gear.. GEAR!?!!!
That’s messed up Anet you just screwed a bunch of people over because they have obligations, Timezone etc., I personally think you guys need to never do that again, come up with cool event only outfit and weapon skins for the future.
I appreciate you guys want to ake the game world more dynamic and living and that’s cool.. I’ve just accepted with your Sunday Noon PST policy I’ll never make an event.. But seriously giving out gear is unfair, next time cosmetics Anet, don’t screw over the people that can’t make it even more.
Dear ArenaNet,
Hi may I start out that I like this game a lot, however.. the recent announcement of yet more 1 time only events in poorly timed junctions to almost anyone that works in the retail world (I am a manager of a comic book shop.) that does not have off on weekends will be forced to miss is really getting to me. I’m sorry I just feel that Noon (pst is a bad time all together. I really feel the optimum time would be after dinner say around 5:00pm pst (8:00pm est.) This would likely allow far more players to get to experience these one time events. I was screwed out of experiencing the Halloween one, and it seems like you guys are intent on screwing people who work on weekends over yet again. Please rethink the time you hold these events, it would be much appreciated. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this way.
I’ve seen others using it, but there are a lot of people out there that can’t think for themselves. shrugs Sorry I don’t like to propagate people not toying with things and trying to come up with things themselves.
@Skolvikings lets not be setting new lows… I think you know what I mean. And I know exactly what you mean. You are trying to find positive side to things, but that just doesn’t work when you want to be competitive in an online game. Not for me (and most people around here) anyway.
Hmmm funny I seem to still be doing really well in PvP.. weird…
I got Great Sword and Axe/axe there’s not much I can’t take down (PvE and PvP.). I like to call my Build The Northern Barbarian, and I do share it with friends.. Just not sure I wanna share it with the public, last thing I need is it getting nerfed.
But if you play with more of a White Lion from WAR mind set, or want to feel more like a Barbarian with a companion, those weapons with the right set up. Just amazing.
Greatsword as a main weapon, Axe/axe for ranged, gap closing, and range defense.
With the right build the synergy on these weapons are absolutely brutal…. But a lot of Rangers refuse to think outside the box and just want bows, which there is nothing wrong with that, and bows do need some love.. But being essentially a Barbarian with a companion is my way to play.
I also agree with the OP, I’m using GS and Axe/Axe same stat focus, I’m having little to no issues surviving and taking people down myself. I think the issue was SB condition build was so effective and easy, people focused on it. I tried SB builds out, I thought they were neat but not the playstyle I personally wanted. Dunno, I don’t think I’m an awesome player, just average at best but; I don’t have half the issues the supposed pro players are having. shrug
Jeeeze please stop with the Ranger has Range in its name comments go look the term up, then just stop.
Greatswords if you build your traits and gear around them are actually great, they do however suck as a secondary weapon.
Eh all this has really done is got me playing with more weapons and builds. It sucks but who knows what we’ll find.. (and before anyone goes I tried everything, stop think you may not be the best theorycrafter out there and someone better than you may find something better. There is always someone better.) So let’s get tinkering and let’s try to find more than one weapon to crutch onto this time, so it won’t be as bad when this happens again.
Guess I’m more optimistic than most of you. shrug
Kodan wiuld be amazing!!!!
While I do like Axe/Torch – Shortbow, with my playstyle I play more skirmisher, so I prefer Sword/Torch – Short Bow. Sword does not perma CC you if you turn auto attack off and learn not to button mash there’s enough delay between combos to dodge, and the animations on the attacks are very very fast. Personally I like the evasions in Sword plus if used correctly it’s nearly imposible for someone to get away from you when using it once you get in range, which is where Shortbow and weapon swapping come into play.
Though Axe is very solid too, don’t get me wrong I keep on in my bag at all times.
I’d like this, Never got why we couldn’t DW Swords, we’re more agile with swords than really any other class including Thieves.
1 Handed Swords are great.
Here’s how to use it for the CC yourself QQers.
Step one – Turn off Auto Attack
Step two – Learn not to button mash
Step three – See step two
Step four Profit.
The evasions and conditions it applies make it great for a condition build, plus the 3rd auto attack actually increases condition damage. It’s not your layman button mashers weapon. If you think you can resist the urge to button Mash, it may be the weapon for you.. if not, May I introduce you to the axe.
