TESO is coming. WIll be nice to not have to deal with such bad balance issues.

What magical crack rock are you smoking? I’m in beta and that game is horrifically bad. I’m not championing this game by any means, as it’s in a bad place. But TESO is just bad. horrible animations, horrible controls, terrible story and very boring “classes”. So what ever magic crack you’re smoking would be nice so please share.

On topic.
I just came back out of boredom myself and noticed WvW seems very very empty. I was sad and came to the forums to see why, and I guess after reading this article I’m not surprised.

I still hope they add a HUGE map like DAOC had one day, but if there’s no one to play on it what’s the point. :-/

Hey would it be at all possible to have perhaps a different Icon or color theme so you can tell the difference from when a Community Manager or a Dev responds to a thread. I mean no disrespect to the Community Managers, but when I see the little Anet Icon read the main topic and search through a thread for the dev response to what may have been a very interesting OP only to find out it’s a CM scolding people, I really feel like I just wasted my time and feel really let down.

I know an odd request, and no disrespect meant. But if we could do that, that would be swell!

So for PvE if I want to be effective in group play am I stuck using GS or A/A, or is there another viable PvE option? I’m really not a fan of either weapon set and was wondering if I should just retire from PvE and slink off into just WvW or SPvP where other weapons are actually viable.

Accommodating specific RP preferences is typically a low priority for MMO dev teams. Especially given all the other issues with the game that should honestly be fixed first.

Has nothing to do with RP preferences, as it does adds more play styles to the game. :P

That isn’t true at all, a shield can get in the way of technique. it’s all a matter of sword fighting style and skill level.

Outside of sports, or in-town situation where you were fighting un-armored opponents and all you had was your personal protection weapon (i.e no access to an off-hand), people didn’t fight with a single 1-handed weapon.
It’s not a matter of sword style, you either gripped your weapon with both hands, or used your other hand for something else.

Wielding only one 1-handed weapon in GW2, and as such being reduced to 3 skills, is a pretty good portrayal of what you’d be doing to yourself by only wielding one weapon.

That’s not true at all either. There are literally fighting styles dedicated to only using a sword that are extremely effective in the combat field. I get video games have beaten it into peoples heads that dual wielding or having an off hand is the “way” to go. But there are many 1 handed sword techniques that can out shine someone using something in their off hand.

It is as in real life.
Using one sword is always less effective then using 1 sword and a shield.

I think community attitude is what made launch vs now better, at launch there was more options for wider varieties of builds and role acceptance, but that degraded into a damage meta game that I find unappealing. So it’s not so much the game as the community that ruined GW2 for me.

Would it be to much to ask for 1 handed weapons to all be flushed out to 5 skills so that if you choose to only run around with a sword and no offhand for cosmetic and preference reasons it can be viable.

Or maybe make an off and weapon that is simply a hand guard that adds the last two skills to any 1 handed weapon you have equipped (that might be a lot tougher.) regardless, would love more support for only using a single 1 handed weapon.

Actually I consider lack of Trinity (or some form of roles needed.) a Con, it’s really what keeps me from really enjoying this game past super casual, as I personally am a support player, I’ve always loved support roles whether as a Tank, Healer, Crowd Controller, or Buff Bot. I’ve never been happy playing dps in any game this one is no exception, and while you an offer buffs, a lot of it’s baked in, it’s not your sole job, you’re still there to dps.

Anyways, that’s just my opinion the lack of some sort of Trinity keeps me from really enjoying this game as I wanted to when I purchased it. Now I log on here once every few weeks do some running around see what’s changed and log off. It makes me sad because I love the concept f the world, and the original game story ..which has been horribly side tracked.

P.S. Yes I knew here was no trinity when I bought my CE, but I figured there would be need for heavy support focused players, and nope.

Living Story. More like Living Side Quests..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

War Siren.2346

Okay so GW2’s living story, a story that started off with the terrible and immediate threat of the Elder Dragons, we forced our way into Orr to (extremely Overwhelmingly) take out Zhaitain and his undead minions, leaving 5 other Elder Dragons to slay before they devour the worlds magic supply, however even though there is this dire threat that needs to be handled we are now side tracked bu Giant Crabs and beaches, The Molten Alliance, 2D Adventure lands, More Beaches.. Festivals and Air Pirates… all the while there ARE STILL 5 EXTREMELY FRAKKING POWERFUL ELDER DRAGONS CONSUMING ALL THE WORLDS MAGIC!!! But heeeeeey what evs it’s not like they havn’t destroyed a good portion of the world toppled other Human kingdoms… forced out or made races near extinct.. nope not at all.. So Sky Pirates, and festivales are way more important than the actual Elder Dragons…

Okay so enough sarcasm there for you? Good, then let’s talk about the living story and why/how it could be cool but is currently being used uselessly.

First off it’s introducing stories that simply distract and take away from the main game story, nothing that happens actually impacts the world.. like at all seriously none of it actually effects anything in the long run.

Living Story could be cool if Anet got back on track and started telling the dang game story they promised us, that they are side stepping like whoa. You want to make the living story have actual impact? Have stuff get destroyed and stay destroyed for a year or so while it’s rebuilt, have it drastically change the climate or landscape of the world. Make it have permanent changes, not just temporary ones. let the events have an actual impact on the game world instead of throwing essentially a holiday down our throats to generate sales of lock boxes with no real lasting effects that matter!

The living story should be used to herald in more disasters the Elder Dragons are causing perhaps making other races flee their homes seeking refuge joining the fight as wait for it gasp New Playable races!!! Bringing the weapons of their home lands with them and teaching it to the other races unlocking gasp New weapon sets per class!!! holy crap!

But no.. instead you’d rather give us side fluff story that has no real impact on the ever lasting game world or even moves the game story forward.. enough stupid side quests. Just enough. Get back to the story, give us new races and weapons, if you’re not going to give us proper expansions at least give us the content of ones.. and for the love of Pete.. STOP side stepping the main story!

Currently all the current living story model has done is made me relook at how I am spending my MMO gaming time, and decide maybe until Anet gets back on track GW2 isn’t worth my time or my money on Gem store purchases… Get back on track Anet and I’ll gladly come back and spend 20+ dollars a week in your cash shop. As is I’m done until you do something worthwhile.

sigh every game has it’s forum Warrior Fanboi who actually hurts the game more than he helps it by his fierce, blind, loyalty… seriously Vayne, I understand where you’re at I ‘ve been there with other games. But all you’re doing is hurting the game by trying to shoot down everyone’s ideas vehemently so you can keep this game niche. Passionate Constructive Criticism helps a game grow and thrive, Disagreeing is fine, disagreeing with disagreeing is fine, but when you pop up in every thread and start arguments by blind loyalty… that’s not fine you hurt the game you love. (I’m not saying don’t voice your opinion, in fact I say do it.. but stop the long drawn out arguments that has caused mine and several other topics that probably should be a page count or two smaller, than they are because you are doing the Knight and shining armor for the game.)

Anyways that said and back on topic.

I really hope they don’t do an Elder Dragon per expansion. Because that lets the over al story get stagnant like a year with no updates to it, Plus I di remember reading that there are no plans for an expansion unless the game needs it. Sooo I REALLY hope it’s not one Dragon per expansion or we’ll never get on with the story. :O

What frustrates me so often when ‘end game’ in guild wars 2 is discovered is the number of people who moan about its lack but fail to say what they actually want to see implemented. When the topic then turns to raising they shout “I need said raid, your putting words in my mouth!!!”. I think if your not satisfied with what gw2 offers at lvl 80 and wish to complain about it then at least tell us all what you want instead! Please don’t use terms like ‘competitive pve’ though please, that’s stupid, if you want to be competitive at something then why not do wvw or spvp? Pve shouldn’t be about being better than others it should be about working with others.

A few people have come out and straight up said they want raiding and would be happy just to have raiding without gear tiers. I wouldn’t have an issue with this really. When they first started talking about the world events before release I envisioned something like dragon raids and master levels from dark age of Camelot, requiring a large number of people to work together with a decent level of coordination. This unfortunately didn’t happen and we ended up with no pve content that required coordination out side of dungeons. Guild missions have now been added and I personally enjoy them but many don’t so still feel the game needs raiding to fill that large scale pve void.

Adding some form of raiding, whether instanced or open world, without any reward that can’t be obtained without raiding would in theory appease everyone. However; how long do we actually think that would last? It would be mere minutes before people started saying raiding should give rewards that can’t be obtained elsewhere because its harder content etc. Yet this goes against what arenanet are trying to achieve. The next issue would then be how long would that content last without gear gating? Hopefully we all realise the real reason for raiding games excessive gear grind is to drag content out. They could potentially use infusions and an agony resistance style mechanic to work around this but I’m sure that would cause up roar as well.

Ultimately anet are kitten ed if they do and kitten ed if they don’t. We aren’t likely to see any form of raiding in gw2 before an expansion if even then so why keep calling for it? This game offers dungeons, crafting, exploration, jumping puzzles, guild missions, living story, world event farming, world vs world, spvp/tpvp, mini games and a system that makes it incredibly easy to lvl and gear alts. If that currently isn’t offering you something to keep you entertained then, and I really hate to use this phrase, go play something else. Thanks to the gw2 business model your not tied here by a subscription, you can play a different game and keep an eye out to see if gw2 adds what your looking for. Even better you can play another game as well as gw2 if you have the time for that.

I am entertained enough by gw2 that I don’t miss raiding but if I really did I think id just go play something that offered me that. I wouldn’t waste my time complaining about the fact it’s not available in a game where the developers have shown no inclination of adding it.

If you check my post history I have said raiding many many times, usually when I do it’s met by frothing of the mouth crying by the same few people. Also I NEVER said no rewards, I said cosmetic skin rewards that offer no stats, but are unique to the said raid, it would offer an alternative to RNG boxes to achieve new skins. So that gives you large scale cooperative PvE (and instanced only please, as we see open world turns into a zerg I can only see 2 people because of culling fest.).

So yes I want Raiding in GW2.. I also want them to quit side stepping the main story for these horrendous side stories.. okay Molten Alliance was actually pretty good.. when they finally got to the meat and potatoes of it. The first 2 parts sucked though… but that’s another post.

I love the end-game style of GW2 I really love it.
I feel sorry for the people that can´t appreciate it.
Maybe one day ANet will manage to put in a raid-like experience without forcing people to grind so everyone´s happy. Till that happens, you might want to try other games or twink GW2.

ofc, more skins. so its not forcing, because all the same stats! lololol

And there is the key to this whole mess. Personally I wouldn’t care if they added a full on raid system to keep the hardcore players happy, so long as its all cosmetic. This is why I don’t have an issue with Fractals in spite of the fact that I personally hate the dungeon, and refuse to set foot inside because I am philosophically opposed to any content that only exists to be endlessly repeated. I don’t like it, and will never do it, but it doesn’t hurt me to not do it. I don’t have to listen to people complain and badmouth me because I don’t have ascended gear, and nothing gained in that dungeon is really of any use to me at all.

As long as there is no advantage to doing it, or penalty for not doing it, Arena Net can add any kind of content they want on top of their current design and I for one won’t have a negative thing to say to them.

If you take 2 seconds to look at my posting history, as I don’t post a lot. Whenever I have asked for raiding it has been, with the drops being purely cosmetic skins. I’m not looking for a loot grind, just large scale team PvE play. Skins are more than cool to me.

Er, you know a week only has 168 hours in it? And if you work 100 you only have 68 left? Of those 68 even assuming you only slept 5 hours a day, thats another 35 hours gone leaving you 33, which is not a lot by anyones standards and if you dont work in your house you must be travelling. Do you eat…lets assume yes. Toilet? Most likely. You probably have less then 10 hours free a week and yet you raid, stay up to to date with games and still have a rewarding social life?

You must share your secrets. Im amazed.

improvements? What improvements? class balances are not really improvements, in most cases, they are creating more and more cookie cutter builds and making some classes " advanced play" only. They are using RNG box money to fund the next RNG box events. I’m a meat and potatoes kind of gamer, this RNG business is just cake and fluffy frosting, which from time to time, I don’t mind a slice of. All WvWvW zerg wars lost most of its lust after 3 months of culling, borked features, abused mechanics, and the newest staple fix " another RNG lottery box for a legendary many folks even with precursors will never see.

Don’t misunderstand me, these are all growing pains for the title, and as long as we keep paying for it and saying how much we love it, it will only ever stay the same, personally, this title has a lot of potential and there are lots of features I love about it which is why I continue to play it and buy gems every month, but I don’t have any delusions whatsoever that it all is well, because really it’s only a matter of time and some other developer will recognize this titles strengths and create their own versions of those strengths, but perhaps at that time, that developer will swim down a path more favorable to me. Although, hopefully by then RNG Wars 2 has realized that the concept of it all the time does get old and have started adding more meat and potatoes and leaving great living story addition dungeons such as Molten Alliance in game as part of the permanent content mini expansion.

applauds well worded sir!

I was going to chime in to defend my stance, but Phaedryn has it covered.

Eh I’m gonna do it anyways. Adding options for play is never going to hurt a game, it’s only going t improve it and add more to do. I work 90-100 hours a week on easy weeks, and I have a life, yet I find time to enjoy raiding and end game content in other games when I play them, I also manage to not fall to horribly behind, and still have a very active social life with my other gaming buddies (we play a lot of table tops and RPGs etc.) which requires me to not be online. But in other games I play I still manage to stay caught up, spend time with my friends, spend time with my family, and work.. and when a week comes that I don’t feel like raiding.. I don’t, I wave it off.

So I’m sorry Stark and Arkham Creed, that you’ve had bad experiences in other games and now you feel that these features would make you feel obligated to do them (and let’s be honest with GW2’s loot system it wouldn’t you can ding 80 and be in full exotics 10 minutes later in this game.) All it would add is a higher tier of play for people that enjoy large scale cooperative PvE play experience that requires skill and strategy vs, the mindless zerg fest of the world bosses.

Liar of the Mad Dragon in Neverwinter… that encounter has given me nightmares because of how difficult it is if you don’t have a good group make up.

Why couldn’t they have made the Zhaitan fight like that summoning waves of Undead, while you have to have someone control the adds, while a few of the DPSers work on the Dragon, and a main support character decreasing damage and healing.

That would have been so epic.

The dragon bash festival was most likely in the works for some time now or at least planned from the very start like how Halloween and Winter’s Day were.

The Living Story is not meant to be a continuation of your personal story. It is a side story that can occur at any point in time of your personal story. It’s true that these temporary events could be more solid or just made permanent.

As for end game, it’s unlikely that there will be raiding like in other games. It seems ArenaNet is gravitating towards guild missions as their answer to end game guild content.

It doesn’t have to be conventional Raiding, just something that is organized and fun and gratifying and not DPS or go home.

Ugh I hope Guild Missions aren’t they are horrible, absolutely horrible. the 15 minute time constraint on them stop any sort of enjoyment that could be had with them… just ugh…

Ugh, at this point I don’t know if it’s ambitious experiments or just bad game designing that plagues this game.

Ambitious Experiments are fine, but have some of the tired and true basics to fall back on in case they don’t work.

The Living Story is designed to flesh out Tyria, not let us embark on some epic world shaking quest.

If that was their intent, then maybe they shouldn’t have made the games premise story this world shaking epic event, that had one of the most anti-climatic endings (seriously worse than Illidan.) I’ve seen in an MMO with story telling.

They need to open the next chapter of the main game story. The living story evenst have been eh.. and the content is only limited time, so when they add dungeons (Molten Weapons Facility I’m looking at you.) that are finally good.. they take it away… which is bad design.

It’s been almost 1 year (10 months-sih) since GW2 came out, not only do we not have any sort of fun or engaging PvE endgame, the games METAgame is in disarray, and they haven’t moved the main story any further since we Killed (but not really we shot sparkle guns while he King Konged.) Zhaitan.

So instead of going further along with the Elder Dragon story (we still have what 4 of them?) You guys decide with every Living story and event to side step the main game story and open up other story lines Some were terrific (Molten Alliance.) Some were boring and didn’t even make me bat an eye at it. (South Sun stuff.) and the next event you give us is another happy cheering pointless party event…. I’m sure it may be fun ..but kitten can we please move on with the story?

At this point any hope I have of this game adding any sort of significant Endgame that doesn’t involve PvP of some magnitude (I still hate WvW still just Zerg vs Zerg… which is mainly because Towers, and Camps etc are to close together, and there’s no threat of a real counter with AoE being capped at 5, and more than useless Guards/Captains… but that’s another post.) is for Anet to continue the story and hope they learned from their mistake with Zhaitan and actually let us fight the darn dragon.

Seriously Anet.. stop side stepping your main story get back to it!!!

When will we get...

War Siren.2346

So I’ve barely logged on in the past month, I have several 80’s, the grind for a legendary doesn’t interest me (as I personally feel they are all hideous looking, and not worth the effort put into them. Just my opinion of course.) I’m bored out of my mind.

5 man DPS centric dungeons aren’t doing it for me, and WvW is extremely uninteresting to me at this point due to the lack of tactical battles, small skirmishes being unimportant, and lack of owner ship feeling when claiming a Tower/Keep etc.

So my question is simply this.

When will we get large scale cooperative play that isn’t a mindless Zerg, such as raids? Something that encourages a balance of dps and support players and requires tactics and skill? I want to engage Zhatain (or another Elder Dragon.) with a small army of friends (Say 10-20, and real players not NPCs) in battle, not just click and auto shoot him from a gun ship losing any epic feeling the encounter had up until that point.

GW2’s combat system with content developed for tactical large team play that encourages a mix of support and dps players could be amazing… so where is it?

(and no current Dragons are mindless zergs and do not count.)

Dailies are horrible. In every game. The fastest way to make a game go from fun to a job…is adding dailies. And if you add a daily that rewards a currency type that is attainable in no other way…it’s just plain kitten poor design.

Anything that forces players to feel like the MUST log in DAILY or fall behind on their quest for whatever they want is terrible. When I get home from a long day at work, finish dinner, put the kid to bed, and feel like kicking back and watching a little TV or reading a book before bed…but suddenly remember “Oh Crap, I have to log in and get my daily for that stupid Laurel”…I get overcome with a desire to punch someone. Well, ok, not overcome :-)…but seriously, who thinks this is a reasonable way to treat the player base?

I’m sorry…that came out more rant-like than I intended…but the whole idea of dailies just makes me angry.

Give 30 laurels or 40 laurels or whatever you want for the monthly and just give gold and exp and karma for the stupid dailies already. Or 7 for weeklies that can be finished in a single play session.

Dailies. Are. Poor. Design.

They need to add something to up replay value that isn’t a Token grind of some sort. Token grinds are boring, there’s no excitement. I’ve actually stopped logging in, maybe i should complain more, I’m just so terribly underwhelmed with level 80 content Dungeons are some of the worst designed dungeons I have ever played. The Glass Cannon or GTFO mentality of the community and game design apparently is irritating.

I mean I loved, loved 1-80 the first 3 times after that even that became tedious.

WvW is just Zerg vs Zerg.. personally I didn’t find it fun at all. Fractals were alright, but I’d prefer one long epic dungeon where I fight Epic scaled Monsters not randomly teleported fighting meh scaled bosses. I mean would it be so hard to create at leas 10 man content, that has you fighting Huge monsters that feel rewarding when you defeat them? Or is it to much to ask for content that rewards you for having at least 2 support players and not all Glass Cannons… because really a full team of skilled Glass Cannons > than any other make up in the game.. hell there is content that punishes you for not having this makeup… Blah

Don’t get me wrong I love the game but my list of annoyances and complaints are long.

No the game most definitely ends at 80, unless you are into Zerg vs Zerg .. oh I mean WvW… 80 get’s boring as hell, there is nothing to do that isn’t grindier than a Korean MMO. They really need to re-evaluate their end game strategy with this game. 1-80 is amazing I will say that, and I love the Combat system (wish Anet would drop the Glass cannon or go home mentality though.)

But at 80… it’s dull boring and just all around not fun… unless you’re into Grinding.. a lot of pointless tireless grinding, and content that is not rewarding or fun.

Endgame needs ..something.. extremely bored.

Again so many of you are misunderstanding me. about what I want from dungeon drops.

I don’t want them to to remove the tokens or the sets from tokens those are fine as they are, what I want is an additional set of skins (like the Christmas, and Halloween skins) No stats, can’t be used without applying over an existing weapon. To drop randomly from Bosses in Dungeons. These are not things that effect Game play, but add an extra fun surprise to doing dungeons, and gives another way for the economy to grow. Afraid people will turn it into a Farm? They already do that anyways.. but you can make it so you can only Obtain 1 skin per boss a day. (I personally think that’s a horrible Idea… But that’s just me daily content has always been a horrible Idea.)

So stop getting bent out of shape I’m not saying add exotics to the Loot table just unique skins (outside of the ones you get from Tokens, and that act like the skins from the Holiday events) to Dungeon bosses to add that “Hooray I got that Skin I thought was cool” Feeling.

1.) I don’t think you quite understood what I meant. I’m talking exclusive skins that drop from the dungeon.. like some form of RNG to make you keep going after that one boss over and over again, so when you get it.. you mentally hold it up like the Tri-Force triumphantly. This game lacks that a lot right now. The sense of reward in this game is non-existent almost. The Tokens aren’t worth the time.

Do you miss your Thunderfury bro? The legendary weapon is the item you want, but it sounds like it might be too big an investment of time as it doesn’t just drop once every million times….

Adding non-bound skins will not only help add that sense of reward but can also help boost the economy.

As for CoF if you’re not a Zerker Mesmer or Warrior.. those groups are tough to get into and .. I’m sorry that’s not fun. I should be able to run any dungeon because I want variety and make bank.

Run with guild, friends, or create your own – really this is entirely just the way you are looking at the problem, it has multiple solutions.

2.) Only if you’re in a bad tier that crap isn’t happening in T1 or T2.

I’m seeing a choice here – looks like you’ve made one and need to stand by it or reconsider.[/quote]

What’s the matter were you never good enough to get one “bro” again, you’re not getting it. It’s about adding Oh forget it… I’ll comment when some intelligent posters reply and not fanbois. Not one of you have made a valid argument, for or against what I suggested. People like you are the ones that eventually hurt games.

No WvW is poorly designed compared to DAoC.. I’m not even saying clone it completely just do the things DAoC did to discourage Zergs and some of the most fun I’ve had was Holding my Guilds claimed keep for Hours with only 10 of us agsints a Hibernia Zerg.. There are a lot of things wrong with WvW, the siege system, The Guard system etc etc.

Hello,

Let me start by saying that I do not hate this game. I actually like it a lot. I’ve come here to maybe vent my frustration and boredom I’m currently experiencing with the game.
Frankly I’ll be blunt.. Endgame sucks. Okay that 500lb Undead Orrian Gorilla is out of the room let’s go into why I feel this way and what I feel can be done to make things better.

1.) Dungeons.
The Problems, I’ll be frank again they aren’t rewarding enough. there’s no rare drop exclusive to X Dungeon that looks so amazing I have to have it. The reward vs Time spent has gotten horrible, every patch it gets worse. To much emphasis on high Damage, not enough emphasis on tactics or intriguing game play.

How I would fix these issues?
*Add rare dungeon exclusive Skins to every Dungeon, Skins you can only possibly get by beating X boss Dungeon. Give us a reason to be excited about Boss kills. But make them armor and weapon skins. This way it’s all about looking cooler, not having better gear. People love to look cooler.

*Readjust the money earned from dungeons.. raise it back up, make our time worth it. Stop nerfing dungeons monetary gain, and we’ll stop looking for cheap ways to break them to get more money.

*It seems your main mechanic in this game is spike damage… it gets old fast and makes playing melee more of a liability to your party. (Pro-Tip some people hate playing ranged, and 90% of the time in dungeons we are FORCED to do so.) How about making interesting mechanics ones that may require a teammate or two to go do something else while three others keep a boss Busy, etc. Spike Damage does not have to be the go to mechanic to make things challenging. Neither does making Melee a Liability. Come on guys… Better more interesting Boss mechanics that require more thought provoking and FUN play.. not you have to go ranged or die play.

2.) WvW is NOT fun. It’s simply a numbers game. You’re not going to properly defend a Tower against a Zerg with your small Guild… Zerg vs Zerg combat is not fun. WvW really needs looked at.

How to fix.
Simple go play DAoC copy paste. Increase the map size, add more space between towers and Keeps. Make Guards scale depending on how many attackers vs How many defender (example 30 attacks vs 5 Defender – Guards are all upgraded to Champion Level Keep Lord is legendary.) Make all Guards attacks AoE.. Make them a Threat! Make claiming and defending a Tower or Keep more worth a guilds time.

3.) Large Scale organized PvE Content aka Raids.
Seriously we need them. Not world Dragons that cause Culling hell… Instanced 10-20 man raids taking on Dragon LTs. etc. Have previously mentioned Cool Item skins drop.

4.) Dailies.. seriously Not fun.
I really don’t think I need to explain why.. That’s kind of self explanatory… You make us grins X amount of X things every day. Hows about adding Mini-Games for the Daily something fun.. not go in the world and grind.

I mean these are some of my issues with end game. C’mon Anet, Make me want to keep playing as it is.. I’m starting to not want to. Which makes me sad as I have dropped a lot of money into this game so far.

I think this game has an OMFG amazing foundation.. but we need more, and it’s just coming way to slowly.

The Guild Missiosn just made this game way grindier than it needs to be… now you have to be in a large Guild to just hope to get these unlocked.. that’s a load of bull crap.
They should be unlocked for any and all Guilds end of story! Why are you making this game into such a HUGE freaking grind.

So I’m playing around with the 0/0/30/10/30 Build with Wolf/Dog Pets Dwayna Runes in Clerics Gear using GS and Axe/Axe and I have to say it’s actually a lot of fun. I’ll most likely work S/D back in to it somewhere but so far I’m happy with it. I miss having high health but I suppose the constant healing makes up for that.

I want to test out that 0/10/30/10/20 Build at some point too.

I really hope they fix spirits and give GS a Blast finished as I’d love to play a spirit Bunker.. but right now that would be so gimpy and just blah.

Oh I actually didn’t know about the fact that Natural Healing gives you Regen as well.. they really have to clean these tooltips up.

Also with that low of Vitality how are you not getting destroyed by conditions? We have some okay condition removal (every 10 seconds from Signet of Renewal, plus the activation. which is 60 seconds, plus the Bears Shake it off if you have the Bear active, plus the removal from Healing spring.) But even with those does Natural Healing and Signet of the wild really heal enough to counter act them, I mean you should have enough Toughness to counter burst but conditions still concern me, losing all my Vitality by swapping out my gear.

Hmmm just tested.. really not to terribly much of a difference. between 0/0/30/10/30 and 0/0/30/30/10.

Base Health in current Gear: 23217
Moa Stats: Pow: 1374 Perc 1374 Tough 1374 Vit: 2748 Moa Heal: 3250 (AoE 1s) 240
Healing Spring with 0 BM 0 Nature magic
4920 base Heal
2340 Regen heal over 3 seconds.

Base Health in Current Gear: 26277
Moa Stats: Pow: 1474 Perc 1474 Tough 1474 Vit 2848 Moa Heal 3270 (AoE 1s) 240
Healing Spring 10 BM 30 Nature
5020 Base
2565 over 4 seconds

Base Health in Current Gear: 24,237
Moa Stats: Pow: 1674 Perc: 1674 Tough: 1674 Vit: 3048 Moa Heal 3310 (AoE Circle 1s) 240
Healing Spring 30 BM 10 Nature
5220 Base
3015 over 3 3/4 seconds.

Over all Power with the Builds In current Gear.
1861 (0 Beast, 0 Nature.)
1960 (10 Beast 30 nature)
1980 (30 Beast 10 Nature)

So while you do gain more power and more healing with the 030/10/30 You have 2k More health, not to shabby Heal and negligible difference in Pet Stats with 0/0/30/30/10

That said though as the class is now, I can see the benefit of 0/0/30/10/30 over 0/0/30/30/10.. However if they ever make GS 2 a Blast finisher like some of us have been requesting (I know a Huge if.) 0/0/30/30/10 will pull ahead of 0/0/30/10/30

You’re going to have to explain the Mandatory part pf 30 BM because I see nothing in BM worth sacrificing the traits in Wilderness Survival and nature magic for, yes like I already stated I see the 10 points in Markmanship in BM as I was already thinking, but you sacrafice a lot of toughness Vitality and Possible Power through Vit staking (2k Vit is additional 100 power.)

You’d also give up either the 20% quicker cooldown on your GS and Sword, or your GS doing 5% more damage.

Just not seeing how 30 Beast is mandatory, it seems like you sacrifice way to much and not enough of it is survival to justify.

I def see using 10 points and Dual Moa’s for Healing. This Build is meant more for the Pet to be support and supplementary damage not your main focus.

I highly disagree with Drake, while yes we really can’t make a great Glass Cannon Melee build, we can make some very survivable Melee Builds with the right traits equipment and Pet choices.

My current melee Heavy Build has zero issues with survivability in PvE, and holds in own in WvW. It’s nowhere near perfect and always in a state of tweaking but it’s a lot of fun to play.

Hello all,

Currently I’m trying to think outside the box on my Ranger, as at heart I’ve always been more of a Melee person. The Idea of the build I’m trying to build is pretty much like tanky “White Lion” (melee pet class from Warhammer Online.)

I’m currently calling this Build The Northern Barbarian Build (and maybe someone else already named it I don’t know.)

So here’s the Current Spec.
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmoM0VMzMoaohmMaohMa0xx0moabVsb8khA707khA7khT7khA70z7kuW70V7owY70m

I have been contemplating taking the 10 points out of Marksmanship and putting them in Beastmastery

Weapons Used: Great Sword, Sword, Dagger, Long Bow, War Horn.
(i.E. In most PvE I’ll have GS as my primary, S/D as my secondary, in WvW I’ll pick between S/D and GS as Primary, LB as Secondary.. and for lots of Travel I switcher Dagger out for War Horn.)

Swappable Traits: In Dungeons I’ll remove Signet of the Hunt and equip a trap, or Muddy Terrain. The Elite Skill is swappable between Entangle and Rampage As One as needed. (generally I use Entangle, in Seiges, and PvE where I’ll be fighting Swarms. RaO for everything else.)

Pets:
PvE: Brown Bear, Blue Moa, or Fern Hound. The Moa is amazing for group support heals, and Group Protection Buff, The Bear is great for condition Heavy Fights for Shake it off, and the Fern Hound is good dps, and gives group regen.

WvW: Brown Bear, Pink Moa, Wolf, or Fern Hound. Bear is same as PvE, Pink Moa (or black if you have the HoM unlock.) is great for the AoE Daze and Group heal, Wolf for Fear, and Fern Hound same as PvE.

The build holds up pretty well in PvE as I’m able to Melee with almost any boss, and can take quite a few hits well. PvP I can go 1v1 vs almost any class and hold my own quite well. S/D seems to hold better in 1v1’s as long as you can time your evades and learn to break the 1 combo chain to dodge due to it’s Higher Damage. GS However is still no slouch, just does less damage and requires more vital use of the Block (as the evades on S/D are fairly short CDs.) or hoping you got lucky and they hit at you on the third attack of the 1 ability, however GS does have a great on demand daze/stun/interrupt. So Both melee set’s have their advantages and disadvantages.

This is still a work in progress, but I am having a ton of fun with this spec. But any feedback or even insights I may have missed that could make this Build even better would be appreciated.

-Thanks
WS.

while there are some very vaild points in the OP I will say that on the survivability aspect of melee ranger you’re just using the wrong spec or don’t know how to use your evasive and Blocking moves properly, don’t get me wrong I agree on the damage portion of what you said, as for survivability that part is a L2P issue on your part.

Only thing I really disagree with you on.

Why isn't GS Skill Maul (2) a Blast Finisher?

that would open a lot of new options combined with the amount of fields ranges can use

That was my thinking entirely with asking this question. It really would open up a lot of possibilities.

I alread use GS for my Bunker Build and it works great but feels slightly lacking (yes I know S/D is better I use those too.) I really feel just adding the Blast finisher to the weapon would go miles to make it more Viable as a main weapon.

Topic asks the question, I mean even the end of the animation has a Blast type effect, so why isn’t it a Blast finisher, I mean we’re sorely missing one, and it kind of works.
