Laurel 'Mastery' Headgear

in Suggestions

Posted by: Xalugami.2096

Xalugami.2096

I believe there should be a new pair of headgear for the Laurel Merchants, mostly to give Laurels another small nudge into being “useful” again. This could be considered after Ascended armor is released. The price would be very high to justify it being a “free” ascended armor, as well as turn these into somewhat prestigious equipment (investing a huge time into it).

[Laurels]

  • Cost: 250 Laurels (Slightly more than half a year)
  • Stats: Ascended, Magic Find (Since Magic Find comes with no stats, you can select it one time on double-click)
  • Appearance: Looks like green laurels placed upon your head (Pretty much wearing the ones you’ve been collecting), no Dye slots
  • Effects: Has a slow & small leafy trail coming from it when you move
  • Reasoning: How come a Laurel Merchant can’t even sell you back wearable Laurels? Adding this item will mend that and also provide a way to obtain a single Ascended armor without crafting. The only difference this has over any other Ascended armor would be it’s unique skin and effects (as well as method of obtaining it). Wearing this, people will know you’ve been active for quite a while.

[Golden Laurels]

  • Cost: 500 Laurels (Over an entire year)
  • Stats: Legendary (Change stats any time out-of-combat) or Ascended, Magic Find (Comes with no stats, but you can select it one time on double-click)
  • Appearance: Looks like the above [Laurels], but given a natural golden color/look to them, could have some kind of jewel on it which is effected by a single Dye slot
  • Effects: Has a slow & small golden leafy trail coming from it, sparkles & gleams
  • Reasoning: Legendary equipment should certainly take a long time to obtain, and for an alternative to whatever Legendary Helms will be available through crafting-chains, 500 Laurels seems like a worthy time investment to yield its own exclusive Legendary skin. The effects are still probably going to be subtle compared to the full sets of Legendary armor, but that reflects how Laurels are mostly just time but not much effort and extreme crafting. This would essentially be the “mastery” item from the Laurel Merchant, and wearing this people would know you’ve been active for over a whole year plus.

I was expecting some kind of Laurel skin from the Laurel Merchants when they first introduced them. But then they became the main way to get max tier accessories. After obtaining Ascended accessories, there isn’t much left to strive for (besides the Minis or the Cat Tonic) and then Laurels stop becoming something to care about and really save up.
Adding in [Laurels] & [Golden Laurels] would add a reason to save up Laurels as well as play more often. Making the actual Ascended Helms would most likely be much quicker than working for [Laurels], and same goes for the Legendary Helms and [Golden Laurels]. They would only add a steady & far goal for players if they would like to obtain these exclusive skins.
The only sort of “flaw” I see with this is that in a few years, a lot of people will have them. But to me, that’s fine because they’ve put a lot of time into playing the game.

No Gem Store items (or in-game items for that matter) came back from the first release besides the Super Adventure Box O Fun.

But yeah all of the items had a Limited Time banner and a timer counting down to their removal. Not to mention it was posted on the site as well as the launcher.

I also think Hair Accessories should have a dye slot somewhere on your Hero Panel (on the Town Clothes pane perhaps?). The default selection of dyes doesn’t cut it.
Pretty shocking to find out they didn’t add a simple pony tail choice for human females though.

We dont know. She never says… probably because their lore team would rather write a short story about it then put it actually in the game…

You make it sound like they actually thought of something. To me, I only see the whole “I know a secret but wont say it because I got stopped” as a move to take when you can’t actually think of a reason.

Pretty sure Seven Star Stalker.1740 was talking about the Permanent Self-Style Hair Kit (Permanent Hair Stylist Contract on the TP), which is free to use at your command after obtaining it.

It’s no longer obtainable and costs 2500g on tp.

Welp, the OP never said anything about price or availability.
Buy it once for your account (with 2500g worth of Gems I suppose) and now you can change your hairstyle at any time you want.

Also can I just say that “collecting hair” sounds kinda gross lol.

I’ve heard this living story meta will only available for 14 days. With the meta requiring 10 dailies complete – seems a bit unfair for those not able to get on 70% over 2 weeks.

Or…am I incorrect and that this living story meta is here for 4 weeks?

Or you could just do the Aetherpath achievements instead of all 10 dailies.
It literally says so in bright white text when you hover over the meta.

Guess adding in content so they can delete it is more important though.

Another thing is, this really is not returned-player-friendly. Just imagine you have a good friend you want to get to play gw2, and then you tell him: yes, well, this is what you have to do:
1. craft to lvl450
2. you have to now log in every day for 30 days
3. do 5 daily achievements each day
to be able to get endgame equip.
You know, I wouldn’t even be able to explain this to any friend with a straight face and without actually considering ending my time with gw2.

This. Every time they update something, I give a rundown of the patches & my experiences with the new updates to my close friends. They haven’t logged in since Aetherblade Retreat, and almost every update has them wondering why ANet is killing their game with such horrible additions. Each time they make fun of them, I question why am I even wasting my time with GW2 myself because it kind of is turning into a big joke.
To my other friends who I want to give the game another look, I find it hard to even find a positive without accidentally mentioning one of the many negatives they’re adding. I haven’t had any luck getting any of them to try playing in ages.

I fear that with time gated BiS Crafting it’s going to cut a lot of people out of the game for good unless its fixed soon. If things keep going towards that kind of content, I don’t think many people will be able to recommend this game at all to anyone without lying to their faces.

I feel like GW2 still has potential, but every update they do is just killing themselves faster & faster. I hope it’s not too late to turn it around. It feels like a casual Facebook game instead of an award winning MMORPG that honestly had a shot at being the greatest on the market.

But that’s all my opinion, so it could be a completely different veiw for someone else.

Time gated content has been around for a while. (Charged Crystals etc…) I find it strange that people are complaining about something that is meant to slow everyone down so that they don’t chew through the content in a week and cry for “moar stuffus” to do.

Look at it this way: If you could blow through everything and have all the BiS slot gear inside of a week, how long would you keep playing if there was nothing else to do?

I am not the greatest fan of time-gating, as there should be something else to do, but seriously…with everything else that is in need of a fix, this shouldn’t be the number one priority right now.

I agree on your last part, there is so much stuff that needs a fix compared to this.

However, I’ve been in full Exotic gear for almost a year now. I like to explore the tiny nooks & crannies of maps, do jumping puzzles a bunch, and help newbies out with stuff. It felt good that I had the BiS equipment tailored the way I want already and I can do anything I want with it (like it was advertised, and just like in GW1 too). The game itself is fun and has kept me coming back every single day since headstart. I even dropped a lot of money in the Gem Store for the Fine Transmutation Stones (now Crystals) needed to get all the skins I enjoy ontop of my Exotic equipment for all 8 of my characters.

Between that and the Living Story, I’ve been overwhelmed with stuffs to do. I never chased down World Bosses so having to keep timers open to see when they’re spawning, and needing to zombie zerg champs in Frostgorge for a ton of materials isn’t very interesting (but that’s sort of off topic since this isn’t about the limited way to farm materials). This is all starting to seem like too much to do unless I stop having fun in the game. Then they just slap a time gate on it because people wanted it harder to obtain the BiS gear, and time gated content is never hard to begin with.

I’m not even sure why they needed a tier of gear to bridge Exotics to Legendaries, because I thought the huge difference in effort is what made Legendaries well… Legendary compared to your average everyday Exotic.
It would probably take me a day or two to think of a new, solid crafting method for 400-500 and Ascended items that would take longer to obtain than Exotics and not include super rare drops, too many materials, or time gated recipes. But that’s usually pointless because ANet doesn’t care.

I’m genuinely curious, does anyone out there find this to be fun? World Events I can sort of understand, don’t want you to grind the same boss out all day. Laurels are too plentiful now so that’s not a big issue either. But now we move it over to Crafting account bound items. Hoo boy.

Crafting to me feels like a desk job, it seems tacked on and really archaic. Now it’s required to obtain the best-in-slot equipment (which goes against their original concept of earning max gear the way you like to play, may I add). Adding time gated crafting recipes you need in order to make account bound equipment doesn’t make sense at all and makes this feel like a bigger chore than it already is. It’s not player (alts) friendly, it’s not logical, and it’s not fun.

I can sort of see why they want to add this, so players wont complain about getting max gear in a day (because that’s somehow an issue in a game that was advertised to be easy to get to max stats and go skin hunting). But for people with many alts, trying to get Ascended gear is just hopeless. The entire new tier so far seems more like a punishment to obtain and goes against the original concept of earning gear in the first place (except for Ascended Rings).

Making recipes limited once per day (at least ones you need a lot of) is just bonkers. Instead of having a game where people login to play and have fun, you’re turning this into a game where you need to login to click a couple buttons and then leave for a day. Even if you had the materials in your hands to make 300 of the things, you wont be able to craft them for nearly an entire year. It’s sort of a case where you want to play the game, but the game doesn’t want to be played.

If the Devs have said anything about changing this system, or if 400-500 is still in sort of a “beta” state; please let me know. Too much time gated content in a game could potentially flat out kill it because I’m sure some gamers would rather be playing a game instead of logging on to do their time-gated chores.

PS. I’m a few weeks slow because Super Adventure Box has been keeping me occupied. I’ve only just left the Box since Tequatl’s patch so that’s why I’m late to this issue.

PPS. I’ve only gotten Ascended Rings via FotM and have no plans to use Laurels for Ascended Trinkets or Amulets. I’ve also lost all intentions on trying to craft an Ascended Weapon when I saw the recipes had a timer, so you don’t need to say “don’t like it don’t get it”. I’m just wondering if all of this time gated stuff is actually fun for other players or if this is becoming an issue that could hurt the game.

Yeah, 2g per Design is crazy. I’ve been playing Trib mode every day and I can’t even get a single thing to show for it since the Design is far too expensive.
I wish they costed Bauble Bubbles instead, that way they would still take a while to get like the regular skins (fixing the complaint saying Trib skins are easier-faster to obtain), and then have the added bonus of being a new color to show you did Trib mode.

Rewards?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Xalugami.2096

Xalugami.2096

You get no reward chests in Infantile Mode, but you get the few Baubles in the Boss Chest.
You get a reward chest in Normal Mode (2 Bauble Bubbles & a Continue Coin) along with the Baubles surrounding it in the Boss Chest.
For Tribulation Mode you get a reward chest (2 Bauble Bubbles, a Continue Coin, and a Colored Super Token), the Baubles inside of the Boss Chest, and a ton of Baubles will spawn around the Boss Chest (about 245+ Baubles).

The end reward chests are limited once per zone per mode per account per day, but the extra Baubles in & around the Boss Chest will always show up. I usually run W1 in Normal & Trib mode for easy 12 Bauble Bubbles (excluding trading up Baubles), and W2 in Normal for 6 extra.

The only difference between World 1 & 2 rewards is that Tribulation Tokens make Green skins for W1 Tokens, and Yellow skins for W2 Tokens.

None of the old SAB equipment is available as a drop or purchase (Super Sword, GS, Staff, Scepter, Shortbow, Longbow, Shield, Backpack); but you can find the weapons on the Trading Post still. As for the Backpack, you have to settle for one of the other colored ones for completing the Meta Achievements.

Personally I’m leaning towards Valkyrie for the +Power & +Vitality, but I don’t think Critical Damage (or something like it) played a huge role in any old games.

Lemme hear your take on which combo you think fits & why.

I think I started with about 8 Bauble Bubbles this time, and so far I have 110. Daily W1 & W2 Normal runs, and W1 Trib runs. Sprinkle on some regular Bauble collecting and the Bauble Bubbles just keep rolling in. Hopefully after reset today I can finish off the last 30 I I need for weapons & the Minis, then start collecting them for the future.
Getting the 40 needed for dual Mini Moto isn’t too hard and can be just as easy as W1 on Normal (and only that) for 6 days, excluding trading Baubles.

While I was bouncing my way through him today I was thinking maybe he has some other motive. Do you think that perhaps our ol’ “good buddy” Shortcut Worm is actually a liar? Knowing full well how difficult it is for a worm to get a good meaty meal (or salad), he could have renamed himself to seem more inviting. Perhaps he lays in that spot waiting to feed on anything and anyone coming through (everyone falls for shortcuts), and who knows how many times that’s worked out for him?
Are the player characters the only ones agile enough to hop their way through this bloodthirsty (yet genius) worm?

You think nerfing geysers, flowers, jumps, mobs and adding checkpoints does not affect hard mode?

You mean those things that were making barely any “difficulty” in the first place? The only change I disagree with is the Geysers, but a hotfix is a hotfix. Flowers also definitely needed a fix, maybe not the best one, but it at least has a constant destination instead of “lol tiny spec of lag and now you didn’t jump as far, thanks for the life though”.
But please, go on about how this removes a lot of difficulty from hard mode. Not to be confused with tedium though (such as needing to cross mile-long sections all over again because you died at the end due to invisible spikes, extra checkpoints still retain difficulty and reduce needing to repeat stuff constantly). If its any consolation, Tribulation Mode just got a whole lot harder now that a new checkpoint can kill you each time you respawn, how’s THAT for tough eh?

Seriously though, this was fixing the mess they made in 2-1 & 2-2 the best they could in a short amount of time. Yes it was possible to complete, but it shouldn’t have been as difficult as it was in the first place. It takes a really big chunk of guts for Josh to say the difficulty got out of hand (after defending it a bit for a while). Even more kudos for such speed with the changes. All things considered, the changes still barely effect Tribulation Mode’s difficulty.

After finishing nearly every SAB-related Achievement and replaying the stages, these changes help a ton and you’d really must be foolish (or selfish via “I had to do it, make them do it too!”) not to agree. SAB should be hard, but more importantly, it needs to be fun first.

I do like the sound of this too though, I’d love to play W2 on my Norn but I don’t want to waste more Baubles on repeat upgrades any more (thanks acc bound rewards). Super Adventure Mode?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Xalugami.2096

Xalugami.2096

I was thinking I should put this into suggestions, but this seems more likely the place to be seen by one of the SAB team.

As far as I know, starting in 1-1 will boot you back to the hub world after the 1-4 Bonus stage, so there’s no way to play everything in one trip to the hub world. I know you could just run from sub-hub to sub-hub, but I think having an adventure mode to start from 1-1 and play all the way through until the last fully complete stage would be very convenient and reminiscent of most old games that never saved your progress (unless you saved up your passwords).

Perhaps you could make the Fountain Statue in the center interact-able to ask if you want to go through the current Super Adventure (I bet you can sneak in a “Press Start” in there). Or you could bring back the over-sized Play Coins from when the SAB hub was limited to your party, and insert them somewhere (I admit, cramming a coin into Moto’s mouth was fun).

Granted this isn’t necessary at all with only 2 Worlds completed, but in the future when this starts getting bigger an adventure mode would be very rad.
Maybe it’s just an “I’m too lazy to load up the hub & sub-hubs repeatedly”, or maybe I like the sound of going the whole distance as long as I can for as far I can. Either way it sounds like a pretty good yet (hopefully) simplistic addition.

The Glove is a major key item in the first place. Just finding the Eagle requires you to use the Glove, so would it not occur to you then that “hmm maybe we should get me the glove first since I’ll probably need it later”. They put the block there because that’s good design; can’t pass without the item because you need it. I wish they would add more party-wide item gates because riding the coattails of another player’s items is my biggest gripe with SAB.
If I find an obstacle that requires an item, instead of relying on someone else, I’ll go find the item since it’s going to be needed again in the future (like with the Toad Dojo Bauble, forgot I could even do that).

I found them to be pretty reasonable prices still. Like back in ye olden games you gotta start from the beginning in order to have an upper hand towards the end (not that W2 is the end). Starting from W1-1 you can get 400-500 Baubles by the time you make it to W2-1. Then add in the Baubles you can find in W2 and you’re set for 2 items a day. Each Tribulation Mode run almost yields enough Baubles for an upgrade as well. You need to bring that wealth up from the beginning.

If LOZ was online with 50 players on the whole map. It would not be over populated.

This still sounds like Orr. Plus, there is absolutely no way for an 8-Bit SAB-themed zone to exist outside of the SAB.
Also Cube World is coming.

Also “more adult story and theme” is subjective. All that’s left is making it open for more players simultaneously (oh god that sounds horrible) and filling it to the brim with Dynamic Events.

Just go to Orr.

I’d definitely be excited to hear about more SAB content after the first 4 installments and the (probable) rescue of Princess Miya; but it should remain platforming focused (and not crammed with dynamic events) as well as be an instance so those who want to be alone can be alone.

That would be really cool to get a Super Anura, but from the URL of this link https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/608b104-King-Toad-Wizard-Weapon.jpg it seems like they’re going to be recolored Super skins.

Liadri next year

I’m hoping a lot of the broken mechanics get fixed during the Speech patch rather than next year. I’d be surprised and disappointed if they leave the Gauntlet as-is before it’s gone in a couple weeks; So there’s that I’m holding out for.

I can’t possibly imagine a situation where they read pages and pages of the same game mechanics issues making this boss fight more of a control fight, and then NOT do anything about it in its final major patch. There’d have to be something really messed up with the devs if that’s the case. Which I’m definitely sure it wont be. Fixing up game mechanics to fine-tune the boss to its intended form seems like a priority patch for the midway point of its lifespan. So just wait a day until they fix everything. Highly doubt they’d ignore all the player-unfriendliness created by the boss mechanics clashing with game mechanics. Give it a try when they fix it. Which should be tomorrow. Which reallllly should be tomorrow. Major portion of the new content has been working improperly, so they have most likely working on a fix for the new update. Coming tomorrow. /repetition

And then it turns out they actually have been ignoring this and deciding instead of fixing temporary content, they’ll just roll it over for a year. No biggie.

Wow.

Idea for Tab Targeting (Liadri)

in Queen's Jubilee

Xalugami.2096

So Tab is the only way to cycle targets outside of a party without putting the mouse on the screen, yet when fighting Liadri it always targets Visions instead of her. This gave me a great idea seeing how this is intentional.

You should make Tab start targeting some of the level’s geometry & assets too, as well as NPCs. This would achieve your goal of making it hard to tab-target the correct thing. Maybe you can use this idea the next time the Gauntlet comes around.
Or maybe you can fix this mess like an actual game designing company.

So how about you forumites, how do you target Liadri when a party isn’t an option? Do you choose to spin the RNG Wheel-o-Luck with Tab, or do you manually sift your mouse through everything?

SAB in 1 week? [merged]

I’m hoping we get this in addition to another release.

Nope nope nope nope nope. I do not want to have to farm most likely time gated content for achievements while I want to play Super Adventure Box. The only thing worse than ‘2-week temporary content’ is 2 ‘2-week temporary contents’ at the same time.

We can finally relax; the saga of festivals comes to a close and we can finally get back to the only coherent story in the GW2 lore: Rescuing Princess Miya and the Shopkeeps from Lord Vanquish.
(About the stories; I’d mention the Dragons but I guess all of them went to sleep or imploded. The Living World seems like it spun out of control a while ago. Destiny’s Edge is all patched up and seemingly concluded.)

I haven’t found a use for Laurels yet, nothing is interesting to buy from that merchant so I’ve turned it into a game to see how many I can gather. Let’s see how many Laurels I have by the time they add something interesting to that vendor.

i hate to be a downer but are they really going to do sab right after they reveal scarlet is invading tyria

Well they did it while we had to save homeless refugees from dying on the road (or getting lost somehow, guess they don’t know how to press M).

Seems like the SAB will release to distract us from some kind of major happening in Tyria that actually needs our aid. And I couldn’t be happier. If I had to do another month of achievement zerging I’d probably puke, now we get some casual platforming that isn’t time gated or related to zerker/zergs.

What’s wrong with developing these characters now that we’ve been introduced to them and added in the game?

LS system is "burning" even great players.

It’s a game, you don’t “HAVE” to do anything. You could log in and only do jumping puzzles if you wanted to. The real word here is you WANT to do it.

If you are playing this game doing things you don’t want to do then they real issue is you, why are you playing a game you don’t enjoy.

I never understood that “you don’t HAVE to” mentality. Which I’m fully aware is a personal thing, but this is really not that great of an excuse. Some people are completionists simply because they don’t agree with “you don’t have to”. They make the content, and we’re the ones who strive to complete it. This sure as heck doesn’t mean we can’t burn out on it, and alert the developers to when its getting ridiculously overwhelming to where the regular players might start feeling the burn soon.

Other things that pop into my mind when I hear “you don’t have to”:
You don’t have to go through college. You don’t have to shower. You don’t have to live in a house. You don’t have to keep all of your limbs intact. Not on the same scale to playing a video game, but I am very passionate about my beloved hobby.

Stooperdale.3560:

I think people are letting the tail wag the dog. The game is supposed to have new content for when you log on. You should not be logging on because the game has new content. There is nothing in the living story chapters that you cannot afford to miss.

That would be a really strong argument if they didn’t throw everything away after its over. I have a bunch of friends that can’t bring themselves to play because they missed too much content. If someone who stopped shortly after launch as a fully exotic-wearing Lv.80 decided to come back to play next update, what would they see?

  • 1 new empty map (with 0 contribution to World completion)
  • Some heavily RNG-based weapon skins (most of which unavailable)
  • 1/3rd of a new Gear tier (Ascended Trinkets)
  • A small dungeon with only 9 mini-instances (I honestly can’t believe it’s taking them a year to add more to this)
  • New or adjusted menu interfaces (Achievement UI)
  • A few new systems (WvW Rank, PvP rework)

Nothing else seems to ring a bell. Looking at this list would make me wonder what else they’ve done (as it sure looks pretty small). Then they quickly find out most of the dev time has gone into all new dungeons, new instances and a ton of lore & stories that wont ever be able to get played again (as far as the MWF & AR Fractals, there’s no way Anet would keep them the same size, so they’re going to be cut instances).
When Fractals of the Mists came out, the size of the instances seemed so short & sweet to the point it hinted at there being more added over time, maybe bi-monthly, gosh was I wrong. I’m at least glad they haven’t introduced Temporary Fractals though.
