The New Destiny's Edge?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Xyvol.1265

Xyvol.1265

Destiny’s Edge was composed of a member of each race so that the player would have a mentor for the beginning of the game, a hero of a famous guild who would guide the player onto their own heroic path. In that sense their purpose has been served, and there is no reason for any other group of characters that appear in the story to have to follow suit. Just because DE was built a certain way, doesn’t mean the new group should or would be the same. I’ve really enjoyed the Sylvari in terms of lore and story, so I would like to have one as part of the group, but not just because they need one to round out the racial role. I’d rather wait for when the time comes that they need that element. I kind of like the idea of having a character of each profession, because it makes for a group with diverse skills, but the same idea applies here as well. The character’s race and profession should be fitting for whatever story they are crafting. If that means we get three humans and two guardians or mesmers, that’s fine as long as it fits. Delaqua Investigations could end up being a large guild with many members that come and go, depending on the situation.

That’s what the Living Story is, new content for level 80 characters. They allow scaling so a player without any lvl 80s can also enjoy it.

Suggestion: A pet for everyone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xyvol.1265

I have to disagree with this idea. I cannot support it because my favorite class is the Ranger. Having pets is a special feature of this class, and giving that ability to everyone makes the class redundant and therefore useless. Many of the features you listed are already provided by my pets; combat, healing, boons, and conditions. Rangers also have specific skills for their pets, such as seeking out and reviving allies.

The emote feature you listed would probably be best added to the minis, as others have said. Personally, inventory space is not an issue for me, I just deposit and sell regularly. Pack animals would take away from the bank and golem bankers. Gathering I fear would only have a use for bot farming. The mini map already tells you where nodes are, and removing the character interaction won’t improve anything. Looting, again for me, has never been a chore in this game. It’s the same interact button, you don’t even need to slow down when running by to loot. If inventory is full, deposit collectibles typically clears up half the space. If anything, looting mechanics would go on to usable mini pets. You can make yours a moa if you like.

A different game I played for a short time, published by the same overlords ArenaNet has, had purchasable pets in it. You could buy said pets from the cash shop. Except, when I say buy I really mean rent, because all cash shop items only lasted 90 days then went away or became inactive. Of course, you could buy food to reactivate your pet. You could also buy upgrades for auto looting, and buffs and things. You could, if you felt the service was worth the repeated purchases.

I think your ideas are interesting, but don’t fit well with the mechanics already provided by the game. Perhaps for a different game.

Will we ever get a break?

I would not say it does not change anything, Marionette ruins, Kessex Hills desolation, Lions Arch destruction are examples that Arena Net have at least tried to make things permanent.

But at the same time things do not really change much and when it does it only ever gets destroyed. The Marionette only changed an unused part of land, the ruins have nothing for anyone to go to for. Lions Arch is essentially an empty unused zone now with nothing in it for players to do, I say it will be rebuilt within a year essentially making the event a simple inconvenience and definitely not permanent. Kessex Hills seems to be a much more permanent change, such a shame though as I found that region quite beautiful before, now I just do not want to spend any time in it due to the looks, the `Orr factor´.

Cragstead was added to Wayfarer Foothills and is still accessible.
The Not So Secret jumping puzzle in Gendarran Fields was opened up during Sky Pirates of Tyria.
Aether Path of Twilight Arbor is still playable.
New fractals were added during Fractured.
Edge of the Mists map is a permanent addition to WvW.
Southsun Cove was added before the term “Living Story” was applied to all release content.
The Crown Pavilion replaced the Sinkhole in Divinity’s Reach, and added the Royal Terrace area.

Soundless and Tablet

in Sylvari

Posted by: Xyvol.1265

Xyvol.1265

The Nightmare Court don’t just reject the teachings of the tablet, they want to corrupt the Dream by causing pain, harm, and suffering to other Sylvari who will then share these emotions with the Pale Tree. They don’t see themselves as evil, yet intentionally bringing harm to others makes them so.

The Soundless on the other hand just don’t like being told what to do. They disapprove of the idea that their purpose in life has already been lain out for them. Hence they try to quiet the connection between themselves and the Pale Tree. I don’t believe any have talked about their views on the tablet. Questioning or rejecting the teachings of the tablet does not automatically make one Nightmare Court, but it makes them a target and more easily lead down the wrong path. The Soundless don’t like the Nightmare Court, so they probably still hold to most of the tablet’s teachings.

Sylvari "probably" aren't dragon minions

in Sylvari

Xyvol.1265

Humanoids Sylvari are not the only life that the Pale Tree births. Fern hounds are also born from the Pale Tree. It seems that as a sentient being, she observers her surroundings and learns from it, similar to how she learns from the experiences and memories of her Sylvari children. Creating the Sylvari race as human-like may simply be a choice. If that were the case, it could be true for another tree as well. It’s possible that other trees create creatures based on their environment and surroundings. The tree Malyck came from could also be near a human settlement, thus resulting in a similar attempt to create humanoid life. Pale Tree Sylvari get their sense of morality and nobility from Ventari’s Tablet, taught to them by their Mother. It’s possible that other trees create neutral beings, and their only guidance is the world around them. It’s also possible they the trees themselves are neutral, even primal in their nature. The Pale Tree’s early years with the human and centaur could be what gave her a distinctive personality.

My point with all this is that the trees themselves (and the seeds they come from) are simply another form of life in the jungle, and not specifically made to be dragon minions. There are already other plant-like creatures inhabiting Tyria, the treants. They can be corrupted, as evidenced by the Rotting Ancient Oakheart in Queensdale. They Sylvari seem to be immune to all known forms of corruption, and this ability is unique to them. It is not known how or why. Could it be possible that a tree itself is susceptible to corruption? If so, would it then be able to birth it’s own corrupt minions? Caithe was afraid that the Nightmare Court would turn their attentions to Malyck’s tree as an easier target to turn to nightmare. Could not another entity or group do the same, be it an Elder Dragon, the White Manttle, or just someone with a negative outlook on life?

It’s hard to say certainly that Sylvari are dragon minions, when the dragon they are being linked to has been asleep. That said, Mordremoth’s element is jungle and nature related, and it has been shown to have a link to the Sylvari already. I think that has more to do with them encompassing the same elements as the dragon, rather than previously having been created by him. With his physical body slumbering, his mind reached out and found another form of plant-life with not only sentience, but intelligence and awareness. The Sylvari are the first in Tyria’s history to possess these qualities, as opposed to the primal nature of other plant life.

Sylvari were not meant to be dragon minions, but it is possible that Mordremoth could seek them out as subjects to turn as he seeks to build his minion army. I do not worry about our PC Sylvari however, for the Pale Tree will protect her children. “Fear not this night, you will not go astray.”

It would be great to hear audio recordings of the short stories that were presented on the website. I would be especially awesome to have Sumalee Montano read Marjory’s Story: The Last Straw, as it is written from her point of view. I love that character’s personality and the voice that brings it to life!

“From ruin we prosper.” – Lion’s Arch motto.

I believe Lion’s Arch will rebuild. It may take time, but the free city of Lion’s Arch will rise again.

It would be nice to participate it the process somehow, though I’m not sure what the best way to go about it would be. I’m not sold on the idea of gathering materials (the Liongaurd conscripts all your iron ore) or donating money again. Trade was mentioned by one of the captains as essential to help the city rebuild, maybe some missions and events along those lines?
I think the rebuild needs to be done with sturdier buildings. One stray match and all those pirate ships go up in flames. We have Breachmaker steel and Nightmare Tower wood to draw upon, lets have some new architecture for a new Lion’s Arch.

And next time someone threatens your city, take it seriously!

I loved the peaceful look, didn’t got much time to explore it (so correct me if I’m wrong) but I’d love to see cemeteries on the refugee camps, also the destroyed thumpers around the world map as a grim reminder because I think they’re just all gone which is a shame.

The ruined thumpers are still there. I come across one every now and then while running around. The refugee camps talked about having mass graves, I glad they aren’t shown. That would be a little to much I think. The memorials in Lion’s Arch are sad enough.

Have they always been level 80? Seem like that would have raised eyebrows if it were the case before the LS was even introduced.

Of course I’ll have to go investigate myself, now.

Yes they have always been there, yes they have always been level 80 and yes it has already been theorized nearly 2 years ago that we’ll one day have to investigate this fort.

Then they have been planning this from the start. They seem to leave themselves openings for places to come back to later. Another example would be the stairs down marked on Divinity’s Reach’s ground floor map, yet there is no door or access. Also the gates to Elona near Ebonhawke that are shut. Does anyone remember having gates to Cragstead on the map before Flame & Frost introduced an area behind them? I think it’s great that these future expansion areas are around.
It does raise the question of how those 80’s are gonna be delt with, since it is a 20’s zone. Most likely an instance.

I enjoyed the living story as well. I missed some parts over the course of the year, but overall I have enjoyed it and like seeing what was coming next. Braham and Rox weren’t that interesting to me, but I really took a liking to Marjory and Kasmeer. Jory has that 1920 detective sort of personality, I love how she talks. Kas has a pretty figure and sometimes ditzy persona that hides someone who is really clever thinking, caring, and determined to do what’s right. It reminds me of a friend I have who is the same, save for the kissing girls part. The relationship came after getting to know the two individually, and for two strong characters whom I already liked I can only approve, regardless of gender.
Was the story the most awesomest ever? No. Was it interesting and compelling enough to keep me checking for what’s new each update? Absolutely.
I also really like being part of a world that changes and evolves. Every other game I can put in and it will be exactly the same as it was ten years ago. This one I can log in and catch up with the characters and see what locations have changed. It’s like taking a vacation in Tyria.
The voice acting, the music, the art all have been great. I am still playing this game regularly more than a year after buying it. No other game has done that and this one doesn’t even charge me for updates.
So despite the hate, I enjoy the game and look forward to seeing what happens with Mordy and Belinda in season 2!

Yeah, Fractals is another option. I didn’t suggest it though as I haven’t played any fractals yet, so I don’t quite know the layout. I’ve read that they are mostly dungeon-like and random, I’m not sure the story instances where there is no combat would fit well. A different system might be a better way to string them all together.

Xyvol, you’re a genius!

((gives Xyvol a big hug))

Thanks!

Her biggest gripe has been that there’s no way to go back and experience the single player missions that explain what’s been going on, or even re-watch the cut scenes. I can’t find anyone who’s put together anything comprehensive on Youtube either.

She’s read the wiki article, but it lacks the flair that the in-game scenes, or even the motion comic cutscenes have, and doesn’t really let you know the characters like the scenes do.

I know what you mean, I have not found anything either. My brother is the one that got me into playing at first, but hasn’t been able to keep up. I was looking for a way to show him what had taken place over the last year, but there’s no one single place to go for that. Even the wiki has information spread over different character pages, or is just plain missing some.

I think it’s clear from the final scene and other evidence that is is Mordremoth who woke up. I also think you are right in thinking there are other consequences to disturbing the ley lines. We have no way of knowing what those consequences might be until they are presented in the story. Mordremoth could just be a big tease, after all we have yet to fight Jormag. After all the talk about his tooth while playing as a Norn, I was sure the story would lead me that way. We could get something entirely different for LS season 2, with the threat of Mordremoth still lingering over our heads. As you say though, the ley lines travel all over Tyria, so they have opened up the possibility adding many enemies, villains, and areas because of it.

Moto!

The genius inventor of the Super Adventure Box, a device that uses various technobabble words to create a virtual reality experience. SAB box focuses on “Edutainment,” education and entertainment in the form of an adventure game.

Why not use this technology to make a box that recreates historical moments from the past to archive and study? The Priory could commission or conscript Moto to make it. It would also be a reason that the events are slightly different (scaled for a party of 5), as it is based off the experiences and memories of the people who were involved.

This would allow players who missed out on some of the Living Story content to go back and catch up, or just relive some favorite moments.

The one I’d still like to get just to compare before and after screenies of burning LA is the one that was on the bridge. Its now at the end of a long pole, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get up to it.

You can get to that one by taking the bridge that leads from Grand Piazza to Eastern Ward. Just after the bridge, head to the right on a ledge that will lead to the plank that sticks out.

As for the vista in the south forum, that’s the only one I couldn’t get to. I got up the rubble, but couldn’t get on the mast. I will have to try again tonight with the methods mentioned!

Xyvol.1265

I finally got this achievement with my ranger main after trying over a dozen times. After the first few fails I decided I’d limit my attempts to a few a day to avoid getting tired of the cut scenes.
As soon as the cut scene ended and I was given control, I started running. I activated Rampage As One while running. When that finished I activated Quickening Zephyr, all the time running for scarlet and steering clear of or dodging grenade attacks. Previously I’d had a difficult time dodging the lightning AOE that interrupts the stomp. This time I was ready to disengage and dodge when it came up, but it never did. I can only call it timing, but I got the stomp done before her attack. I didn’t believe it for a second afterwards. Luck and timing definitely play a large part, as well as player skill.

I earned the meta achievement a few days after release, dailies filling in for some of it. getting this particular one was just a personal challenge, to see if I could pull it off fast enough. I don’t need to finish every achievement from every update, but as long as it’s still running I can try for what I don’t yet have.

It is a MMO. Your choice is already decided….You want your own choices, go play single player RPG.

Even better, a table top RPG. A good GM can tailor the world and stories to fit the players actions. Any unused content is also much easier to reuse later on.

It would be nice to be able to affect the game world, but I understand why it not possible to have those kinds of choices on a large scale. Enjoy the small ones when you can!

As for vigil keep, either it was missed when making the NPC, or his conscription into the Lion Guard lost him the honorific.
It was always my impression that the dialog taking place in the outlaying zones happens after the evacuation. Making it a repeatable event is a little weird for the one-time NPCs, but works well in the sense of having to repeatedly return to rescue more survivors.

If you talk to Rox and Braham while they are in Trader’s Forum, one of them will tell you they think the attack on the city is just a diversion for whatever Scarlet is doing in the bay. Food & Magic Find

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xyvol.1265

Xyvol.1265

My theory is that because the MF food does NOT say it is plus magic find, that it over rides any other magic find that you have on your gear.

Let me propose a different theory. What if the magic find for food overwrites only your base stat and not the additional bonuses from gear? Since there is no way to know what the starting stat is, let’s assume it’s 0. You eat some food and the base is now 10%. Then your gear is figured in, 5% or 100% or whatever. After all, you can only have one food buff going at a time. This makes more sense to me than having your +50% bonus from Superior Runes go away because you decide to eat some Applesauce. As for food being intended for lower levels, some foods you can’t even eat until level 80.

I haven’t done any testing, just some food for thought.
