The Connoisseur of Confection achievement has been moved to the historical section, along with the rest of the Wintersday achievements. It is not active. The historical section will display the achievements that you have either completed or made some progress in. It will not display any achievements that you never started. At least, that’s my understanding of how it works.
Festive Imbiber is now under the “Community” section of the achievement panel.
Achievements > General > Community
I first noticed this happening a little while ago while doing Maw. The armor collection event was active as well, and displayed on the event assistant so I wasn’t really paying attention to it. The thing that caught my eye was something kept showing up on the event list for a second and then disappearing. I finally figured out that it was the Meta event, whenever I jumped it would start to display, then go away as I came back down. It’s as if the area designated for the event is no longer at ground level, or something.
I will experiment with some of the other bosses when I can log in later today.
-Note: all events still give credit, they just don’t show up in the event assistant. They also won’t show on the map, so in the case of SB you can’t tell which other portal events are still active.
It amuses me greatly to give my Necromancer the “Finders Keepers” title.
Better that they remain just a title. Giving in-game bonuses, no matter how small, leads to them becoming just another piece of equipment.
This. They become game mechanics and no longer a fun little extra for those who wish to pursue them.
As an Asuran, I think it’s totally fun to hide under Charr or Norn characters.
I used to do that with my smallest Asura….but after 1st person camera come and I hide in some Big Norn guardian…. I raised the carmera up….
Cannot be unseen -/-\- . . .
Inappropriate!
:)
I just encountered this as well. Tried playing with the camera options, but it didn’t help.
Perhaps you could just tell us?

“But rain summons will always fail, because I want to work on the boat forever!”
That boat’s not going anywhere.
I like the quick fix suggestion. I agree that defaulting to the equipment panel and changing the back button to a drop-down would be better for interaction. While I like the presentation that you’ve done and respect the work put into it, I disagree with doing a redesign. I think a lot of the things on the redesigned main panel don’t belong there, which is why they have their own panels, though those panels could use their own work. With the deluge of “it’s so awesome” comments I feel I’m in the minority and don’t particularly want to post my reasons why.
Photo evidence.
(If it’s always going to be dark in my screenshots, at least my hair glows! )
Simple emoticons I understand, to clarify the tone of a post. <3
What I don’t understand is how adding an icon of a building to your post/text helps anything. It certainly doesn’t shortcut anything, given there’s a list of hundreds to look through. Did you know there’s an analog clock emoji for every half hour. How is that in anyway easier or faster then just typing 2:30?
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I don’t like the global idea of replacing words with pictures. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it’s figuring out which one out of a thousand you meant that makes it really difficult to understand anything.
Now having said that, if you really want to be able to add a monkey icon after your post on the forums, I don’t see anything wrong with having the ability to do so. On the forums. In-game, that’s a terrible, terrible idea.
Nope.
Picture 1 – Before – No giant vine.
Picture 2 – After – Giant vine.
Not the best of comparison pictures, but it’s all I have. There was no reason to screen shot the area before. Also, why is it always night when I go to take a screen shot?
As for the second one by the rock, go ahead and watch Dulfy’s Lost Badges guide, between #12 & #13. You can see clearly there is no vine in front of the rock.
As a ranger, I like to find places I can get away from mobs, preferably above them if possible. That little rock jutting up was a good spot for that, so I’d usually run up there anytime I was passing by the area. I assure you there was no vine there before.
Edit: compare the upper left corner of the screen shots.

Those weren’t there a week ago, 100% sure of that. Maybe they will spread a bit further before tuesday comes around. I bet they snuck them in another one of those ‘fixed a server crash’ mini patches like they did with the waypoint vines.
There was no update before it happened though. Nothing for a week, and then BAM, giant vine right in front of the rock I like to run up and shoot from.
Timed release? Megaserver trickery?
(edit) So it happened during an event and some people got to witness it. That’s cool. I thought we’d e going up the lanes next, but maybe there’s more to do underground first.
(edited by Xyvol.1265)
Looks like the purple plant thing at the far west of the Silverwastes is spreading it’s vines. Anyone else notice this. I’m not sure when the northern one appeared (the one on the right in the picture), but I know the center one wasn’t there yesterday. I’ve run up and down that rock on the way to those lanes when gathering.
I think it’s possible we’ll get a third near Amber Sandfall before the next episode hits on Tuesday. It must have something to do with the next bit of story.
Yes, you don’t lose progress in regards to your “completed” status. If you switch to a different episode, you will lose the progress that you were currently working on in that episode. It will still be considered complete. If you start it again, you will start from the beginning of the episode.
Purple stars for story chapters with achievements are always accessible once the episode has been completed, as long as that episode is active.
“I will be here when you return – when you have fulfilled your destiny.”
Looks like it’s a line from GW1.
Arch of Covenant. I am sure its there:-P
I specifically went looking for that box! Was very bummed not to find it. And nothing labeled “Warehouse 23” (or 13) in Krytan. Harumph!
The ark, or “Ancient Weapon” as it is know in GW1, is hidden behind the crates that are behind Archivist Ernswort. To find it, look for a low place in the crate wall where some are stacked up, allowing you to jump over it. Then go under the corner of the Jade Sea slab and wind your way to the back.
Not really sure what you are getting at. The tonics you get are endless, so you can reuse them over and over. Using them changes you into your town clothes, which you can then wear around town, or anywhere, for 15 minutes until you have to click the tonic again. No, you can’t wear them in combat, but neither could you with the original town clothes. It’s a shame you can’t dye them anymore, but you can still wear them to a Lion’s Arch dance party.
It would be nice if they made them into an outfit, I’ve wanted my sylvari’s town clothes to be her armor since the minute I made her. Anet has no plans for it as far as I know though.
I agree with many of the points listed so far, but wanted to add a couple more.
You can have multiple characters and even level them up to 80, but you don’t have to gear all of them out with expensive equipment. You really only need the best stuff on the ones you play with frequently.
Living story rewards. No one has mentioned this yet. You get the rewards from the story instances of Living Story for each character that does it. I’ve already run multiple alts through the Dry Top story lines to get more Zephyrite lockpicks instead of paying geodes for them. I’m looking forward to running them through the new story to get more carapace shoulder pieces so I can finish up my collection achievement.
The biggest benefit, of course, is fun. Having fun leveling a new character, trying a different race profession, or build. Exploring areas, or taking the time to talk to NPCs you didn’t before.
If it’s not fun for you, there’s no point in doing it.
I don’t think it’s Logan. Sure, he hired Jory during Dragon Bash to make sure Theo’s murderer was caught, but he did go to her himself. There’s no need for him to be sneaky with the player, especially since the LS is after the PS, where the player worked along side him. If he needed something, he’d just say it. “Hey, Player Name, it’s Logan. I need you to go do this thing ‘cause I’m busy and also don’t want to get Krytan politics involved.” Then we’d say no problem, and the story would start. The latest letter about Jennah just doesn’t fit at all. Logan’s more reactive when it comes to his love, er, Queen. It seems to me if he knew any information about the situation he’d be involved. I also get a feeling there’s a little bit of resentment towards Anise regarding her closeness to the Queen.
Ela Makkay has been around since the start of the LS, she didn’t just recently show up. According to the wiki, she’s been here since Flame and Frost. I personaly remember her giving out exposition during The Origins of Madness, and helping in the Vigil refugee camp during Escape/Battle for Lion’s Arch. More recently she was on the Zephyr Sanctum, excited to be learing about the Zephyrites. I was worried she went down with the ship, until she turned up again in the latest episode.
I hear that the term “Mister E” is a reference to Scooby Doo, but I don’t think we’ll be pulling off any masks to reveal a known character. I think when E is finally revealed, it will be a new character.
Perhaps the “Elim” we almost got?
“My dear, we’re not just looking for an underground crime network, we’re looking for an UNDERGROUND crime network!”
Sorry for the RWBY reference, but I couldn’t help myself.
Though I agree they probably haven’t gone underground in the literal sense, considering we are jumping into holes and fighting giant Mordrem down there. They’ve probaly just moved on to the next zone. kitten their early access privileges!
I’ve seen the numbers 04, 425 and 206.
Some crate are marked “Live Contents.” One of those had the 425 number.
Personally, I like the ones labeled “OCT 31st”
(edit) This is from the Hidden Arcana instance.
The Priory chef in the Hidden Arcana instance comments about how there are no culinary applications for bloodstone dust, and that nothing good can come from feeding it to living beings.
Mawdrey II is a living thing, a plant, that consumes bloodstone dust.
So…
Could we discover later that consuming bloodstone dust will somehow block the metal corruption effect of Mordy? Then we all become dust junkies.
Either that, or most of the population gets devouered by their back-pieces.
(yeah it’s a gizmo, but that’s not as funny)
Now we got a giant vault full of dangerous magical stuff.
While I am very pleased with the things we find in there, I am very dissapointed that there are not some cool easter eggs to find there.(Confession: I might have missed them. Can someone translate the boxes please?)
I mean with so many crates around, which are labeled, there would be a great opportunity to have one with a texture that looks burned…
Like that movie about that teacher, who is an adventurer, has a cool hat… Ah come on, you know what I am talking about: “The Ark of the Covenant” out of Indiana Jones.
You mean this?
Yeah, you missed it, but it is hidden and takes some searching to find.
I got a screen shot of Apatia when I was taking a close up of my guardian. I’ll post it in honor of her memory. I never did get back to finding her after the battle. Perhaps I won’t finish the story, and she will always be lost.
Same here. I took out a couple of the Veterans, then had to retreat. There didn’t seem to be anything else in the cave. Perhaps it will be used later in the LS?
There was a chest in the cave, if it’s the same cave I found. I did not notice the difference in the models, on account of all the dying I was busy doing.
Didn’t Kasmeer explain Krytan nobility in the first episode?
Yes. That explanation also tells when the title was stripped, for non-human characters.

-I just don’t understand your social system.
“It’s pretty simple, really. You can receive a title directly from the queen or inherit it from your parents or another relative. A title comes with a manor in Divinity’s Reach usually.”
-And you’re rich.
“Not necessarily, though most noble families are. And, if you’re an invited member of the court, the queen may give you an allowance from the royal treasury.”
-What does it mean to be a member of her court?
“It basically means you have a skill she wants you to use on her behalf. She has advisors on many subjects in her court, and then there are those who are just there to be charming.”
-She lost an opportunity when she took your title away.
“She had no choice. When the Ministry arrested my father, it forced her hand by making his situation public. The queen—and thus the nobility—have an image to uphold.”
-I think I understand. It’s poltiics.
Though if I recall, she was being called “Lady” when she was first introduced in season one. It’s an inconsistency, but one that can easily be attributed to not knowing her situation.
He wasn’t in his cell at Vigil HQ. He also wasn’t one of the Shining Blade guards in the throne room of Divinity’s Reach with Countess Anise. Therefore I can only assume he’s in Shining Blade Boot Camp.
Mordremoth overwhelms the Pale Tree’s will, corrupting it into a giant man-eating plant that swallows everyone at the summit. The remaining Pact and nation forces rally with the Lion Guard under Captain Ellen Kiel’s command to quell the corrupted Grove and sylvari there-in. With the threat dealt with, the members of the Captain’s Council divide up to rule the capital cities. Captain Ellen Kiel becomes Supreme Commander of all Tyria.
The End.
I actually think you guys are on the right track. A lot of ANet’s updates have had the secondary goal of trying to get players interested in different game modes, such as the Fractured update, or Taimi getting stranded in the Edge of the Mists. I wouldn’t be surprised if subsequent LS chapters have us trying to rescue Rytlock after he was pulled into the Mists, going via Dessa’s lab, or maybe even showing up in WvW.
This is what I want to happen. Have one LS chapter where the PC’s venture into the Mists to assist Rytlock. (He doesn’t need to be “rescued,” of course.) While we are there, we’ll finally find out how he came to wield Sohothin. (“Irrelevant!”) Maybe even discover what the real method for cleansing Ascalon is.
Why do sylvari make the worst spies?
Because everyone knows they’re a plant.
I don’t really buy the Malyck theory. If Caithe was going to off him to prevent his secret from getting out, why wouldn’t she have done it then and there? It was already pointed out that she doesn’t have any qualms in kill taking care of business in front of the PC. So then why the facade in letting him go? His reason for leaving was not only to get away from the Nightmare Court and keep them from discovering his secret, but also to discover if there is another tree with another sylvari culture. If so, he’d bring their aid to the dreamers and help fight the dragons. So she helps this guy, sets this all up, then changes her mind and shanks him while he’s climbing over a vine? I don’t buy it.
I get the feeling that it’s something in her past, something older than the point in time where the game starts. Scarlet was already a cuckoo clock by that point, so it’s doubtful she had much contact with Caithe while devising her mad schemes. The part about even Faolain not knowing, and just realizing that fact, implies that one would assume Faolain knows this information. Presumedly because of the time Caithe and Faolain spent together and knowing they were lovers, which was about 20 years ago when the race first woke. Once you break up, you stop getting details about every little thing your ex is doing. (Though to be fair, Faolain was a stalker for some time after…)
Chickens peck, and chickens much,

Chicken’s on the table soon.

I want a way to rewatch the cutscene!
It doesn’t seem like you can do that through the journal?
i wish you could watch cinematics again in game
You can watch it again if you play through the whole chapter again. There was an issue where the green star wouldn’t progress last chapter, but it worked for me this time around.
Choose to replay the chapter from your story journal. When it tells you to check your mail, you won’t get a new one, just open the mail tab anyway. (I didn’t delete the mail from the first time, so I’m not sure if having it is a requirement.) The green star will move to the first story instance, and will update each time a segment is completed. You have to do everything in order this way, as I believe only the instances with achievements use the purple stars.
Be sure to take screen shots during the cinematic this time around!
It seems to me that the reason it fails before you even realize what is happening is because the two soldiers just to the right of the cave as you exit are already in combat when the time comes for rescuing. Most of the others won’t be attacked until you get close to them. If you clear those two right away, then jump down and kill the thrasher in the water before it can kill that guy, then the rest you can do as you come to them. There’s a third vigil soldier in the tower above the first two I mentioned, but he seems to be safe in his tower, so you can save him later.
“Pay for pain!”
Coming from a friend’s human female, my first thought was, “what? you made a dominatrix?”
Took a couple more shouts to finally figure it out.
Do Golems Dream of Electric Quaggan?
A game can’t have too many named npcs with the same exact VA.
Crispin Freeman’s all over the place in this game. Not that I mind, I just notice it.
His IMBb and the wiki list him only voicing three character, and I can’t seem to remember any of the character’s names actually listed, so I’m think they are only minor characters.
The only information I can find about those characters is he is credited to them. I wonder if the names changed before release? What I have recognized though:
Tholaun
Jogeirr
Lionguard Morris
And an unnamed Lionguard at Junction Haven
Back to Paul Eiding, it took me a while to figure out where I recognized the voice from, since it’s been a while since I played any Metal Gear. BTW, has everyone checked out the outtakes on ArenaNet’s Soundcloud?

My favorite of the sylvari female PC lines is from confusion, “Oh, what’s happening?”
Though it’s ridiculous when she shouts “I’m dying!” and my health bar is down barely a quarter. SO dramatic!
Different classes would have different strengths. If we put them together I figure they’d turn into CSI or some other cop drama.
Engineer: Lab rat (Greg Sanders, CSI?) Does everything from compare DNA samples to matching bullet striations
Thief: Undercover agent or an informant/information broker. Eats, breathes, and sleeps in the worst part of the city
Ranger: Dog tracker team. Also good at reading crime scenes to understand what happened leading to crime/death of victim
Mesmer: Lead interrogator
Necromancer: Mortician. The guy who rips open corpses for a living. May also talk to them. (Ducky, NCIS)
Elementalist: Crime-scene investigator or cleanup crew. Uses various abilities to collect evidence or clean up a crime scene after the fact
Warrior: Strategic Response Unit. The heavy-hitter of the group, he’s the first one in when there’s a dangerous criminal inside a building
Guardian: District Attorney. Fear them like Warhammer 40k fears the Inquisition.
Pitch it to CBS.
I noticed that as well. I wonder if it’s a mistake or if personality is being phased out. Dialogue options still award personality though, such as the speed boost NPCs in Divinity’s Reach.
Another ascalonian royal that appears from time to time is the beloved Mad King Thorn and since last Halloween we know that he has a son, Edrick Thorn, which is prisoned below the black citadel.
A son whose existence was stricken from Krytan record. No one knew about him until he tried to break out of his box and into the world.
It could be possible a similar thing has happened and Jennah is not the last of the line? A brother or sister no one knows about?
Be sure to talk to the people who issue the heart quests once they are complete. These are karma merchants, and the equipment they sell is usually better than others of equivalent level. They only sell one or two pieces though, so always check a new heart you unlock. Also, many hearts have non-combat tasks that can be done to complete them, you could try that if you’re having trouble killing enemies. Don’t wander too far out of level appropriate areas.
I’ve found that the daily achievements give a good chunk of XP, so try to complete any of those you’re able to.
Good luck!
My understanding is that they don’t. They do have feelings for others, but it’s mentally based rather than physical. More about emotion and romance than physical attraction. The race is only a resemblance of the humanoid form, they have no sexual organs and so don’t have that drive. They may be compelled to seek out a partner for companionship, or enter a relationship with someone who is very alike in mind and personality, but since sex is not an issue then neither is gender. This is the viewpoint I’ve gathered from in-game as well as official online writings. I’m working on the books, so I’ll keep an eye out for anything mentioned there.
The question about incest is an interesting one, I guess it depends on your view point. According to the societal rules we have now, then yes. But life has to start somewhere, and after many generations they would be just like humans in that regard. We don’t have to worry about this question though, since they can’t reproduce.
Shoulders – Fanatic’s Mantle
Coat – Gladiator Armor
Gloves – Heavy Plate Armor
Leggings – Battler Armor
Boots – Draconic Armor
Dwarves we really don’t know anything about their current status besides holding off the bulk of Destroyers deep underground (Deep enough even the Dredge haven’t run into them yet).
Dwarves were turned to living stone. I imagine that doesn’t make reproduction possible. It’s likely their numbers will dwindle until one day none are left.
